The food here was very tasty, but it gave me hives! Really bad, ugly, all-over-your-body kind of hives. Gasp! I can't be allergic to Chinese food! Noooooooooooo! Anyway, my mom invited me here to meet her friends from out of town, so we had a feast: humongous double orders of noodles, beef broccoli, crab fried with crispy orange orbs of garlic, chili, and green onions, honey walnut shrimp, cold ginger chicken, black bean clams, beef bittermelon, seafood casserole, and a lot more that I can't remember. Everything was delicious, especially the fresh, sweet crab meat with the crunchy orange garlic pieces. (I don't know what made it orange.) After lunch, I went shopping then I hit the gym. It was about two hours after we had eaten. Two miles into my warmup on the treadmill, my face suddenly erupted with hundreds of red, angry bumps that itched and burned like hell. I slowed down my running, thinking, eh, this will pass; might as well keep on running. After all, I'm not allergic to anything. Boy, was I wrong! Within two minutes, all the bumps on my face, head, neck, torso and arms had connected so that I was one giant, ugly raspberry creature. At that point, I threw my towel over my head and ran out of the gym. I only took one point off for my traumatic hives outbreak because the food was really good. But I still haven't figured out what caused the outbreak and it is driving me crazy. I better not be allergic to Chinese food. That would be tragic.

I have eaten here since I was a small child over 20 years ago. The staff is like a family there and you can't help but feel welcomed when you go in. I love their food, the won ton soup and abalone soup are my favorite. The food is tasty and affordable, you really can't go wrong. Take out service is something I frequently use when ordering there and the food is always hot, ready and as big a portion as you'd get dining in the restaurant.

It was our first visit here The staff was very friendly and helpful. The basil chicken and capital pork chop was very good. The fried gau gee mein was bland. And lastly, the garlic shrimp was a waste. The portions were rather skimpy which in the end made this place overpriced. But we try not to judge a place by a single visit, so we will probably try it again.

Very ordinary. We had Honey Walnut shrimp (mediocre, not crispy for some reason, too much mayo, small portion), Sizzling Tenderloin (pretty good, tender and tasty), Chicken w/ cake noodle (cake noodle is not the fried and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside kine...it was just tender inside/out) and spring rolls. I had a Hot Deals Hawaii coupon so we went. I won't return in the future since it isn't worth the drive.

Ever had one of those dates where you did some self talk and affirmations telling yourself someday you'll look back on this and laugh... well.... So there she goes biting into the first dish and immediately her face contorts into a female version of Godzilla biting Mothra's butt. I graciously sample some myself and find it's texture familiarly appealing while she waits for me to ask. She puts down her fork and I continue eating while she waits for me to ask. She *sigh* deeply while she waits for me to ask. And it's not that we don't notice the "little things" girls, we guys just think maybe if we ignore it enough it will just go away. Then she crosses her arms while I'm eating, so finally I *ahem* bite(pun intended). Anticipating the problem I go down the list... too spicy, too salty, too oiling, too hard, too soft.... "It's COLD! They forgot to cook it...." She wants it sent back to be cooked, complains to the waitress who glances confusingly at me to confirm if this girl was for real. I merely shrug, a rise and fall of my shoulders that might have been taken for anything else but was of course, exactly what it looked like. "Who knows..." my expression seemed to say and "It's awfully embarrassing being even the slightest bit associated with this". Now I'm not one to take pot shots at a person's Intelligence Quotient, whom I don't really know well. I save those special bullets for people I love but apparently in her universe Cold Chinese Ginger Chicken is served hot on a sizzling platter... I love this place, been going since I was a little kid with my family and have become quite familiar with the staff over the years.... but I can never seem to order Ginger Chicken again without wrinkling my nose.... They always have awesome specials... but try the Ginger Chicken and think of me... of her... of us.... whatever... and laugh.

I haven't been as into Cantonese food as much as Northern Chinese food for about the last 10 years, but I still like to eat at Lung Fung. This restaurant has been around for at least 16 years, because that's how long my family has been going there. We like it because it has a nice, big, open feeling, and beautiful decor. The only thing we don't like about the decor is that at some point they added these hideous chandeliers. Lung Fung looked much better without the ceiling bling. We like the typical things that a hapa family would like: Crispy Gau Gee Cake Noodle, Hot & Sour Soup, Lemon or Orange Chicken (REALLY good here), and Fried Rice. Last week we tried the Garlic Tofu (freaking good!), a sauteed green vegetable (I forget what it's called - it's sort of like choi sum, but it's not a cabbage; it's obviously a water vegetable), and the Stir Fried String Bean. Everything was good. I ate like a pig.

I stumbled upon Lung Fung by accident with my parents, and after a quick check on Yelp revealed 4 stars we headed in for lunch. This is a simple and unassuming Chinese restaurant that appears to be very popular with those that live in the area. As we sat at our table we saw many people bumping into neighbors and friends that coincidentally were also out to lunch. The service here is excellent, friendly and attentive we wanted for absolutely nothing during our meal and our teapot was continuously checked on and refilled when it ran empty. My dad ordered one of their specials a large and hearty bowl of won ton soup with noodles, and given the inexpensive price we were astonished by the size. My mom and I each tried some of his soup and it was delicious, hot mustard and soy sauce made the perfect dipping sauce for light and savory won tons. We also ordered the Chinese broccoli sauteed with garlic, honey walnut prawns, and ginger and green onion steamed flounder. The Chinese broccoli was cooked perfectly and was one of my favorite dishes, I definitely prefer this lighter preparation over the traditional Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. The honey walnut prawns were lightly and delicately sauced and each bite was scrumptious, the portion size while slightly small was perfect for a party of three. Last to arrive at the table was the ginger and green onion steamed flounder, fragrant steam rose from the dish enticing us to take a bite. The fish was delicate and each bite was a delicious contrast of slightly sweet XO broth, heat from the fresh ginger, and flaky pieces of flounder. Lung Fung knows how to do this dish right, and everyone agreed that it would be a must order at future visits. An older woman (I'm not sure if she is the owner or cook) made her way around the restaurant stopping to talk with diners at each table. Let me just say she has quite the sense of humor, when she came to our table she saw that there was still a bit of food leftover and with a smile encouraged my dad to "eat, eat, finish it all" then with a smile told him if not she'd charge extra for the to go boxes! Although we couldn't finish our meal the to go boxes were still free, hahaha and we left Lung Fung with smiles on our faces promising to come back again.

Went here late night in May, on a Monday about 8:00 pm. Place was sparse. We weren't terribly hungry for greasy stuff just something light. First off, let me say the owners are great. So nice. Unfortunately, can't really say good customer service is a hallmark of most Chinese restaurants. But these guys were pleasant. We ordered the Chinese chicken salad, beef and garlic dumplings, and wonton soup. SO ono! Love it. The food is served family style, i.e. one big plate of each item, then several smaller plates or bowls for everyone at the table to try what they want. The salad was iceberg lettuce, slivered almonds and shredded boiled chicken with an Asian dressing, very simple yet tart and refreshing. The dumplings were sublime. The wrap for the dumplings was tender and flavored with the broth they came in, nice mix of beef and garlic, and fresh tasting--no greasiness or heavy ingredients. The wonton soup was similar to the dumplings in quality and the broth was delicious. Very slurp-able. We paid about 30 for it all, for two of us, and we had some left-over. Not bad for dinner in Hawaii-nei.

Been going to Lung Fung for well over 15 years now. If anything, quality has gone up and service remains as good and as personable as ever. Let's eat. LAMB SCALLIONS If you get one dish, get the Lamb Scallions. It's lamb with scallions (try to keep up). So simple, but the flavors are spot on. I don't know if it's due to popularity or due to difficulty in finding lamb in Hawaii, but this dish is sold out as often as it's available. A lot of people aren't too keen on lamb. In most cases, this seems to be because they haven't tried lamb yet. Consider this dish the best introduction to lamb you could have. Conclusion: If they have it, order it. SWEET SOUR SPARERIBS I'm apprehensive about ordering anything "sweet sour" from a Chinese restaurant, lest I must look upon meat covered strange red sauce for the duration of my meal. Thankfully, Lung Fung's Sweet Sour Spareribs contains no such artificial colors and is far more authentic. Very balanced flavor-- a bit sweet, a bit sour (naturally). There are no bones in this dish, but there are what was described to me as "soft bone". I'm guessing it's cartilage, but the owner said it tastes good when he came by to check on us. Thanks to that, I tried cartilage for the first time. Still alive! Conclusion: Banish any qualms of rose colored sauce. It's good. MINUTE CHICKEN This is my old standby since the first I ate here as a kid in high school. Though I've branched out to try other things, "Minute Chicken Cake Noodle" will forever be on my speed dial should I feel like some consistently good food. It's boneless too, so you don't have to work around bones, which is a plus. Conclusion: Tasty. Get it with cake noodles to add a satisfying crunch.

These guys are great. I've come twice for lunch with coupons and did get the dinner menu - but it was also dinner portions - very generous. The food is absolutely delicious - and I am not a gringo when it comes to Chinese food. The Salt and Pepper Tofu is one of my favorites, but also really enjoyed the Beef with Asparagus and Minute Chicken Chow Mein (crispy, of course). 4.5.

Surprisingly delicious Chinese food from a restaurant far from China town. As each dish arrived and we start to taste them, we all said nothing but words of praise such as "yummy," "wow," and "delicious." This restaurant was just around my neighborhood, but I didn't it exist until Groupon. Apparently a new young owner took over the restaurant and updated the dishes to modern Cantonese. The best lemon chicken I've tasted, coming from someone who does not like that dish. Try the crispy garlic shrimp and salt fish and tofu casserole and you'll will not go wrong. We also had Wo Nan lamb it was very tasty even for some of us who do not like lamb. Will definitely come back to this restaurant.

i spearheaded the family xmas dinner luncheon at lung fung on 12/10/11. I decided to have it here because of the great service and food from a previous dinner party. When I first made the reservations, the staff seemed quite accomodating. However, when I made the last head-count reservation a week before the date of the luncheon, I got a snippy remark from the manager stating that I had changed the reservation times too much. At this point, I was giving him the final count, and if he couldn't accomodate me, then just say so. He said that he was fine with that and that we would have the room plus one table right outside of the room. So, the party day finally arrives! We don't get the party room and I'm not told this until AFTER we arrive. The manager said that he gave our tables away because I changed the reservation so much but he failed to tell me this on our last conversation a week before. Anyways, everyone got settled in and the waitress on my table was really great! She was very pleasant and very attentive to our needs. The food was ok. The noodles was a bit burned and dry. I wouldn't advise having a big party there. Mine was for about 70 ppl and the manager was a bit of a jerk. I really don't know if I'll come back here again.

I love Lung Fung. Maybe it's the nostalgia I feel whenever I eat here. Brings back fond memories of coming here with my dad and brother when I was younger. My fave dish back then was their stuffed duck (still delish btw!) We've been coming more often recently and have had great experiences each time. Love the food and the friendly staff. Love the one waitress who always tells us, "See you tomorrow!" Some dishes we enjoy are the lemon chicken, minute chicken, steamed fish and mapo tofu to name a few. If you want delicious Chinese food served with a smile, come and give Lung Fung a try! They also have some pretty good looking lunch specials!

So apparently the business is under new ownership, and based on the reviews prior to today, they are headed in the right direction. We had the garlic eggplant, steamed fish with ginger, and char siu fried rice. Everything was delicious- and the service was very prompt and friendly. The more you chat with the staff the funnier they get! Really great family place. Definitely try something you haven't eaten elsewhere- the broccoli beef is better than panda, for example, but the best dishes are more authentic (and the pot roast pork and taro, if you like taro, is a wonderful example)! It's honest family food and genuine service. Seriously recommend.

We got take out a month or so ago for our family of 6. Every dish was disgusting and way overpriced. Chinese food is very popular with our kids so this was a huge letdown.

Worst Chinese restaurant I've been to and I've tried many, many Chinese restaurants. Sig other decided to surprise me with a Groupon. You see, he's trying to follow in my footsteps of saving money.... the only problem is that he doesn't really check yelp. I check yelp. It was pretty crowded when we got there at dinner time, so I figured maybe this place just has hits and misses. We flip through the menu. I glance through Yelp and tell him, "Honey Walnut Shrimp has bad reviews, let's get something else instead... maybe garlic shrimp?" He tells me he wants Honey Walnut Shrimp. I tell him I don't want both of us to be dissatisfied based on the reviews I'm reading. We banter a bit about the rice. Sig other points out there is a rice charge listed in the menu, I dismiss it saying, "Nope, that should only be if there is an extra person. We have two plates of entrees, we should get two bowls of rice included! Who eats entrees without rice? To charge $1.75 a bowl on top of entrees is ridiculous!" The waiter comes over and by his demeanor, I think he's the owner. I exclaim, "We'll have 1 garlic pork chop and 1 garlic shrimp!" The waiter mentions, "The tastes will be similar. You should get the Honey Walnut Shrimp, it's very popular" Sig other gives me a small smile. "Ok, sure, we'll try it." "Do you want any rice with that?" "Yes. Oh! Just wondering is there a separate charge for rice?" "Yes." Expletives were running through my mind with pauses of, "This food better be good. It better be good." We got the Honey Walnut Shrimp ($14.95 or $16.95... I can't remember). It looked decent, portions were small though. I took a bite. It was incredibly greasy and full of the taste of old oil. I barely touched it. Sig other on the other hand happily snacked on the walnuts, "I like the Walnuts. I like to order this to eat the walnuts." "Are you kidding me? Let me just make you some at home!" The Garlic Pork Chops arrived. It looked good, but it was a very small portion that was tough, FULL OF FAT and BONE, and the taste of old oil. It was so bad, I took two bites with a few scoops of rice and told sig other, "I'm sorry. I don't do this, but I just can't eat any of this. It's terrible." We both barely touched the food. I ate so little, but wasn't hungry for the rest of the night. I had lost my appetite... the food was that horrible. The best thing about that dinner was the fact that sig other wanted to surprise me. It's the thought that counts, right?

We stopped by on our way to Hanauma Bay and we're not disappointed. The shrimp was spicy, just as we ordered it. Noodles were a little oily but tasted great. Friendly owners
This chinese restaurant is located in the niu valley shopping center near aina hina. I've never noticed it before, but it seems to attract a crowd. The food here was your typical chinese menu, where we had a 9 course menu with the standard things, more heavy on the meat and less seafood per request though. It was decent and enjoyable, but nothing super spectacular. The staff here seems to be stressed hard, with not too many waitresses or waiters available to serve a big crowd. They should definitely consider hiring more to help with that. Overall a decent meal.

I haven't been to Lung Fun Chinese Restaurant in over 25+ years! My sister suggested that we go here because they always have a Groupon available ($15 for $30 gift certificate). Here's what we had: Honey Walnut Shrimp: The typical shrimp battered in corn starch, fried, and tossed with mayo and walnuts. The dish lacked flavor and was bland. Grade: C- Hot Sour Soup: The soup was bland and lacked flavor. Little ingredients in the soup, which made it taste like we were eating cornstarch water. Grade: C- Steamed Fish and Tofu: I asked the waiter what kind of fish it was and he said it was snapper. When the dish came, it looked like Swai (a kind of catfish/talapia). It was certainly not snapper. Nonetheless, the dish was pretty tasty. Grade: B+ Chicken Fried Rice with Salted Fish: This is a family favorite, and was perhaps the highlight of the meal! Traditional fried rice with chunks of salted fish. Grade: B+ Salted Cabbage with squid: Sinchoy cabbage with squid was exteremly bland and flavorless. Grade: C- I sooo wanted to like this restaurant becasue it brings back so many memories as a keiki. Maybe my food palate has changed? Food Grade: C Service Grade: B Worth the Money Grade: C (Food is a bit on the expensive side) Overall Impression: C

My sister had a Groupon from Hot Deals Hawaii for $30. So she asked me to go with her and try this place We got there when they first opened at 11 am.. we where the only people in the restaurant at the time. Here's what we had: $16.95 Honey Walnut Shrimp: The typical shrimp with Mayo and batter.. $14.95 Chicken Fried Rice with Salted Fish: $16.95 Clam with Black Bean: (Clams where big a juicy!) Food Grade: A Service Grade: A( considering we where the only on there at the time) Overall Impression: B Overall this place is good but with the Groupon its a bit expensive .

Lung Fung has one of the best pot roast pork with taro (kau yuk) that we ever tasted. It's not an easy dish to make and had our share of failures. The pork is very tender and there is a perfect blend of five spice and star anise, just the right amount of sauce so the pork and taro are not drowned out. The pork and taro fully absorbed the favors and you can tell they took time and care to make sure it's done right. The other dishes were quite average, the e mein with veggies noodles was slightly under cooked, the snow peas slightly overcooked, was missing the crunch. Too much shoyu or oyster sauce used which makes it too salty. Assorted Meat with Tofu Casserole didn't have enough tofu! The taste was ok. The portions are average and the menu is a bit on the pricey side, expect to pay around 10 - 15 per dish. We are coming back just for the kau yuk!

We had an awful experience at Lung Fung with our Groupon. We were so excited to eat there for the first time and from the second that we walked in, the manager was rude! They would not except our Groupon because there was not enough people in our party, even though no where on the Groupon does it state a number of people needed!?! Needless to say, my husband and I walked out and asked Groupon to refund our money. We will not be going back there!

Service, atmosphere, then food. It was my first time to a Chinese place in Hawaii Kai. I wouldn't have known they were here if I wasn't trying to stay away from Chinatown during Chinese New Years. I have to say.. it has been a while since I received the traditional service. A dining companion and I had made reservations for Chinese New Years and we happen to arrive almost an hour and 30 minutes earlier than the reserved time. Thankfully, the host was nice to kindly take us in earlier despite of their busy time. The restaurant was traditional as far as decorations, linens, chairs, table. It was like going back in time when I was a kid and Papa took me to a family gathering on Sunday for a traditional Chinese breakfast. I had little expectations about the service due to the mixed reviews of this place but decided to give it shot anyway. When we were seated, our server gave us water and tea right away. It did take a little bit to get our order in. If you're particular about your food and you're trying to venture out on new dishes, I wouldn't recommend coming here. Our server was not able to tell us detailed information of what was specifically inside the dishes. I had a very picky eater for my companion. Alas, my partner had to stay with the dishes he was fairly familiar with. But over all our server was polite and was attentive with what we needed (water refills, napkins, utensils, to go boxes and check). After probably about 30 minutes which was a decent wait because of their busy restaurant, our food arrived and I was very happy with the food quality. I enjoyed their fish with ginger. The fish was perfectly soft and the sauce was very very tasty! We had also ordered Beef with Broccoli and Beef Vegetables. Both met our expectations as far as quality of their soft beef and they were not hard to chew on and tastiness of the sauce, unlike other places. The verdict? I would definitely come back here again. They do get busy and would recommend to make your reservations if you're able.

Service was slow although it was very busy. The tasty food made up for the slow service. They need to make a better effort of making sure all of the food is served around the same time. Nothing worse than one if the main dishes coming out after everyone is almost done eating. When it's busy someone should be making rounds filling water, replacing tea pots and the shoyu bottle because the waitresses are too busy taking orders and serving tables.

I had a Groupon, which expired, sooo the coupon was good for only the amount I originally paid. FINE! NO problem - EXCEPT with Lung Fung. They would NOT allow me to order take out and they made me order from the regular menu -NO SPECIALS! I ENDED UP PAYING $15.00 FOR one ENTREE, WHEN, if I had been ALLOWED to order from the luncheon specials - I could have had the same exact entree + rice + desert +++ for $8.95! WHAT A RIP OFF! Remember folks, Lung Fung didn't have a dog in this fight - It was all my own money and I was treated like an alien from Mars! Food wasn't that great either. WHY eat there, when there are two FINE restaurants right next door?

There seems to be some pretty good reviews for this place but I think I tried this for the first time under the wrong circumstances. I was here for a friend's 90th birthday party a couple of weeks ago and the party pretty much occupied the entire restaurant. I'm thinking the entire 9 course meal was all prepared in huge batches so the quality of the food may have suffered a bit. The food wasn't bad but it was kind of just so-so. The dishes I remember... Chicken salad OK. Rainbow tofu soup This was so-so, kind of bland and I had to add some shoyu to add a bit of flavor. The soup did come out hot though. Crispy duck skin with bun followed by the Roasted duck The buns were tasty, soft and lightly chewy. The duck skin that went in it was a bit over cooked I think. It was way past crispy, heading towards charred leather. The roasted duck meat was also overdone and pretty dry. Beef broccoli This was OK. A decent amount of beef in there. Steamed fish with ginger sauce The sauce was good, the fish was pretty mushy though. I think it was frozen cod. Honey walnut shrimp I'm allergic to shrimp so wasn't able to taste this. Others on table said it was good, though. I did get to have some of the candied walnuts and they were good. Choi sum with black mushroom over noodles The regular dish had some shrimp in it and because there were 3 of us on our table that were allergic to shellfish, they made a special plate without the shrimp in it...very nice of them. This dish was a bit bland overall. One thing I did that garnered strange looks was take one of the empty serving plates and mixed together a bunch of the leftover food and ate that with a big spoon. I put in the leftover chicken salad, beef from the beef broccoli, rice, some of the steamed fish, and topped it all off with candied walnuts. I also added shoyu and chili paste. That was hearty. :) One thing that I found funny... At the end of the meal, they brought out the standard Almond float dessert. Basically almond jello served with fruit cocktail. The funny part was it was pretty much all almond jello with a few pieces of fruit. Besides the almond jello, mine had only 2 pieces of pineapple. Others bowls around the table were pretty much the same. In all fairness, I should try this place on a regular night so if I do, I'll update this.

Probably my new favorite go To Chinese restaurant !!! I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to chinese food I love fook yuen, panda & lobster King and I would have to say this restaurant ranks pretty close to those well known restaurants. We ordered the sizzling beef, honey walnut shrimp, green been stir fry & let me tell you all of these foods deserve a 5 star they were so tasty and didn't give me that grousey feeling after. Sometimes chinese restaurants make me feel grouse like there is msg in the food but this place was awesome! Their food is not one bit oily and everything was so fresh. I will definitely be back again & i highly recommend coming here ! :)

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Right next to Gyotaku and Le Bistro, I can see why the parking lot is often fairly packed. We got take out on our way home, so I can't say much about the service. But it seems relatively on par with other Chinese restaurants. HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP: Crispy even in a take out box for an hour. Not too much mayo. Very tasty. CRISPY GAU GEE WITH CAKE NOODLE: The noodles weren't as crispy as we normally like it. But flavor was fine. ONG CHOY WITH BEAN CURD: This is always a great side and more than enough for leftovers. BEEF TENDERLOIN WITH BLACK PEPPER: Meat was very tender and flavorful. This dish is often salty at other restaurants. But here it's just right. OVERALL: Solid place for Chinese food. Prices are average -- not cheap, but not super expensive. Will definitely come back.

We hosted Christmas Dinner here for 60 people, and we were highly disappointed. Despite pre-ordering the menu, the food took an extremely long time to come out. After two hours, we had only been served 3 dishes, and it was embarrassing that our guests were eating bowls of white rice just because there was no other food to eat. We kept asking the servers and kitchen where the food was, and they just kept saying it was coming. Finally, the remaining dishes came out, but I think everyone was just frustrated by then. As for the food, it was not great either. The "Chinese chicken salad" was shredded lettuce in a weird red vinegar sauce with fried won ton strips -- there was absolutely no chicken to be found. The stuffed duck had good flavor but was extremely watery. The salt and pepper pork chops were a weird orange-red color and very salty. Since this was a holiday dinner, we had wanted to order something special like lobster, crab, or a whole steamed fish, but we were told these were all "too difficult to get," so we settled for steamed fish fillet with ginger and onion. The fish fillets were mushy and overcooked, and there was very little sauce or flavoring on them. The noodles we got were hard and undercooked. I did enjoy the fried tofu dish. The other disappointing point of the evening is that we were squished into the back corner of the restaurant. Our tables were so tightly packed that the chairs were back to back with the tables around us, which made it impossible to get up or walk around. If you had to get up to get a drink or go to the bathroom, 8 other people would have to get up and shuffle around so that you could squeeze through. We did speak to the owner about the problems we had with our experience, but he insisted that everything was good. He finally did mention that the kitchen only had 2 woks. If they couldn't handle a large party, they should not have accepted our reservation. I felt bad for our guests and embarrassed as the host. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

I was surprised. I have high respect for people who review on Yelp! and I know this restaurant is rated highly. But MAN - service was slow, and everything came out tasting weird. I've been eating at Chinese restaurants here in Hawaii since I was a kid. Wo Fat, 4 Seas, Village Inn, in Kaimuki. Salt pepper shrimp isn't supposed to be oily and bland, mine was. Under cooked oysters with black bean sauce that tasted like dirt. I think they used "yesterday's rice". I don't know ... I'm going to give it another try, when I get my nerve back up, and if I need to amend this post, I will. But for now ... C- at best

In the heart of Niu Valley, next to Gyotaku, is a hidden gem Lung Fung! Never went to this Chinese restaurant much before Groupons. Then the more often I went here, and tried different foods the more I wanted to go back. I don't care too much for some Chinese restaurants because sometimes salt/msg makes up for lack of flavor. But not Lung Fung, you will never go home and want to drink a quart of H20! Their food is always tasty, restaurants in that area come and go however I guess they have been there for a long time. The stuffed duck is one of my faves, deliciously filled with barley, water chestnuts & some sweet delectable fruit, dates possibly? The gau gee is always a go to, nicely stuffed with filling, crispy served with the perfect sweet & sour sauce, instead of boring mustard & shoyu. Chinese chicken salad, jellyfish salad, egg flower soup, lemon chicken, hot & sour soup are all excellent too! Always great customer service, but when you go ask for Nancy! You will see why. When leaving the last time I said "see you again" she said in her adorable voice, "OK see you tomorrow" , Oh I wish!! :)

Not sure why this place has a lower review. IMHO this is quality Chinese food. The service has always been great and have been very happy with the food. They do have groupons all the time and I'm not sure why. You can Byob! The place can be packed too. Great place for Chinese food. And you know, it's clean...who can say that about other Chinese restaurants.

One of the scales I use to rate Chinese restaurants is whether I get headaches after consuming their food. Headache = contains lots of MSG, and probably low quality. No headache = passable! First and foremost, I did NOT get a headache from Lung Fung! Already a +1 in my book! I was expecting the worst, after reading countless Yelp reviews (especially those using Groupons like we did) bashing the restaurant for bad service, mediocre food, and rude staff. Maybe my expectations were so low that any good quality seemed enormous in comparison, however, I was pleasantly surprised last night with the overall quality of the restaurant. When we first got there, there was a long line of waiting customers. The weather was bad outside, so there were about 10+ of us squished into the tiny area in the front that I suppose was the waiting room. We had to wait about 20 minutes; no big deal, since it seemed to be busier than normal because it was the last day to use the Groupon. Once seated, we were brought hot tea and menus immediately. The waitresses/servers seemed fairly attentive, though we did get waited on by 3 different people and didn't have our water glasses filled the last 10 minutes we were there. We ordered egg flower soup, lemon chicken, and the house special cake noodles. All delicious! The egg flower soup was on the lighter side compared to most Chinese dishes, and a wonderful starter dish to warm up our palettes for the main dishes. The lemon chicken was cut from crispy filets, and not like other PandaExpress-esque versions covered in too much sauce. And the cake noodles had the perfect mix of sauciness and dryness (I don't like my noodles to be drenched in sauce), topped with a medley of vegetables/shrimp. They even had a few good pieces of duck mixed in there, which is usually an expensive item. The only downside, as other reviewers have said, is that the food is a little on the salty side; but come on, isn't all Chinese food a little on the salty side? Overall, a nice Chinese restaurant. I'd probably come back again, though probably not without a Groupon to make the drive from town worth it.

I came here for dinner last night. Other than us, there were only two other parties. From the few times I've been here, it's never been so busy we couldn't be seated immediately, but I guess last night was an especially slow night since our main waiter was the boss himself! My mom asked if he had any specials and he recommended a set menu for party of 6. He did say that because this menu is already discounted, he would not be able to accept the Groupon if we ordered it. The menu came with seafood soup, steamed fish, orange chicken, lobster, honey walnut shrimp, sweet and sour beef, and a string beans dish. We asked to sub out the steamed fish for sweet and sour fish and the seafood soup for a beef and tofu soup. We were dining with some picky eaters that night. We also added on an order of the beef chow funn because it was the birthday girl's favorite. I think my favorite dish from the night was the chow funn. The soup, fish, lobster, and orange chicken were pretty good. Nothing spectacular to write about, but nothing really bad either. The honey walnut shrimp was a bit disappointing. It was nothing spectacular, nor was it really bad either, but it was definitely not as good as some other places. I couldn't really pinpoint what was wrong, but when there's one shrimp left on the plate and I don't feel the compulsion to eat it, there's something wrong. I'm not sure what the English name is for the string beans dish, but translated is called Four Seasons Beans. I love this dish, but I didn't love it here. Every place cooks it a little differently, but whoever cooked it here added a very distinct taste that I didn't appreciate. After my first bite of it, I turned to my mom, pointed at the beans and made a face. The sweet sour beef was a miss for all of us. We normally don't order sweet sour beef and most of us didn't touch it after the first round. My mom made a comment that we should have subbed it out for another beef dish that my brother likes. I agree, I think we'd have enjoyed that more. Although the food was only so-so, the service was pretty decent. When I first came in, we were seated immediately. There was no hesitation to seat us even though everyone else was running late. Waters were brought out immediately. My mom and the boss made friendly conversation. The food came out quickly and without mistake. The waters took a while to get refilled, but the tea pots were picked up as soon as we ran out. Overall, we had a nice experience here. Unfortunately, with so many good Chinese places out there, it's hard to give this place more than 3 stars because the food was such a miss.

Chances are you've eaten somewhere out of pure convenience. You may be tired, feeling lazy, unable to go very far, short on time, etc. (lol sounds like my college life) Where do you turn to??? Somewhere you probably wouldn't eat at under normal circumstances. For me, when either of those things apply to me, and I happen to be craving Chinese food, I come to Lung Fung. Purely out of convenience cause it's literally 2 minutes from my house. I have been coming here for awhile, and it has had its ups and downs. Lately, however, it has had more downs than ups. I think that getting one of the set menus (dinner for 10) ends up being better than just walk-in ala carte dining... so maybe it's better to come here in a large group? Most recently, I was back home for a short layover and had a mean hankering for minute chicken cake noodle. I was pleasantly surprised that the cake noodle here was delicious. There was a lot of flavor in the sauce and it wasn't dry. Dry cake noodle has to be one of the worst things I've ever tasted.... ok exaggeration, maybe, but still. Stay away from me. Other acceptable dishes have been the string beans with minced pork (a lil spicy), mapo tofu, and dungeness crab. As a side note, the service at this restaurant is remarkably good for a Chinese restaurant. We all know how that goes... Other than that, I've had better chinese food elsewhere. Also, don't get the salted fish with tofu here. That stuff tasted like it was hella OLD. I know the salted fish already has kind of a pungent, distinctive taste, but I kinda like it... I didn't like this. NO THANK YOU.

This has reasonable prices, and an extensive menu. The wait help (especially Nancy) are most helpful. They unhesitatingly accept the coupons, groupons and discount cards. Nancy is the best with her quick wit and charming demeanor. When asked what she recommended for an appetizer she recommended the Spicy Won Ton and said if we don't like it, she'd eat it. Well, needless to say she didn't need to eat it, because we did and it was delicious! We also ordered: Lamb with Scallion Sizzling platter, Kung Pao Beef and Seafood and Garlic Fried Rice. Everything was hot and tasty, perfectly prepared. We have already gone back twice and will make this one a regular stop when we want Chinese Food.

I am impressed with the Chinese ambience. Moon doorway. Large relief of a dragon on the wall. Chandeliers. My wife and I enjoyed the Singapore Noodles and Garlic eggplant. Delicious. we've been back 5 times. Owner Eddie Ma is very friendly and gracious. We love hearing Chinese music in the background. We'll be back often!

ordered salt & pepper shrimp ( 10.95 $ ) , spicy chicken with basil ( 10.95 $ ) , ong choy ( 8.95 $ ) and roast duck noodle soup ( 7.95 $ ) portions are pretty good but the flavor was kind of bland . one thing that was really good was the duck. nice smoky flavor with just the right seasoning.

Food is inconsistent. Two comparison: dinner special, once was plentiful and good quality goods used and another less foods and more fat and meat hard. Fish: onced seemed out of freezer and microwaved and bit dry and another time moist and with just the right flavoring. Very inconsistent and there are many other choices of Chinese restaurants. Not sure if they also give you everything you should be getting.

Who would have thought that there would be a full service Chinese restaurant that doesn't cost an arm and a leg in Hawaii Kai? The decor is typical of a Chinese restaurant but what is amazing is the service. We all know that Chinese places are not known for service. They just want your money and could care less if you are happy with the way they are serving you. Not here. Servers were courteous and the owner, Eddie, personally comes out to each table to greet you and see if everything is satisfactory. If it's not, he'll take criticism, constructive ones, to heart. It's nice to see business owners who actually care about what their clientele thinks. On top of that, the food is quite delicious. I would almost call Lung Fung a hidden gem in Hawaii Kai. We came here for a family dinner and of course had a feast fit for the Chinese emperor. We had about 8-9 courses but i'll just touch up on a few items and you will have to come and try out the menu yourself. We had a local favorite, crispy gau gee as a mini starter. Flaky, crispy wrap on the outside with a generous portion of pork filling on the inside. A little dip of the sweet & sour sauce that accompanied the gau gee gave it a sweet, flavorful crunch. My two favorite dishes of the night was the roasted squab (aka pigeon) and the garlic chili crab. Squab is actually one of my favorite poultry dishes. When cooked right, the meat isn't gamey, full of moisture and flavor. Thank goodness Lung Fung did it right. The skin was slightly crispy and the meat was as I described it. Sprinkle a little bit of the special salt that comes with it and it's absolutely divine. I personally like to squeeze lemon juice on it instead of the salt as it gives it a lemony taste that goes so well with the squab. Trust me, if you give this dish a try, you'll never look at pigeons the same way again. The garlic chili crab was battered and fried perfectly so that the crab meat wasn't dried out. The crab meat was moist and savory sweet. The fried garlic bits, chili peppers and green onions that is used to give this dish flavor was salty spicy in the most perfect way. I scooped up as much of the bits as possible and ate it with my rice. Hey, you use soy sauce and i'll use garlic chili bits! We had a bunch of other dishes such as butter garlic lobster, kau yuk, black bean sauce clams, etc but if I keep going, this review will be a term paper. To sum it up, every dish was delish and unlike a lot of Chinese food, nothing was overly greasy. If you are in Hawaii Kai and you have a hankering for Chinese food, head over to Lung Fung and give this place a try. TRUST!

Food and service was amazing. I highly recommend for anyone who likes Chinese food. Make sure you order one of the sizzling steak plates. We had the peppered medallion one and it was fantastic. Enjoy

Eddie, the owner, remembers his frequent patrons names. Very impressive as the food and service. He will modify your order upon your request. Jolly spirited owner who gets to know his patrons and will stand by for a few moments to discuss his family, where he lives, etc. yet not opinionated or obtrusive. The most friendly Chinese Restaurant we have ever been to and I am born here/my husband here for 14 years. Very tasty food, no msg, you feel healthy after and not sluggish as sometimes you may after a greasy Chinese meal, people have thanked us for referring them to this restaurant. We have also taken visitors here. A real gem.

Went back to the old Lung Fung. You patrons start flocking in right at 5:00. That tells me: Come on time at 5:00, or come at 6:00 because if you come at 5:30 the place is packed and you'll get slow service till those early birds leave by 6:00. The sizzling lamb was even better than last time. This time the plate sizzled - last time it didn't. 2 DIE 4. Our order included one side order of rice (the menu said $1.75) expecting the big plastic bowl of rice we have had before. Two little bowls of rice came -- you know the very small personal plate-bowl things. On the bill we were charged $1.75 each. Not a big deal, but it makes them look cheap. Heard the server explaining to another Groupon group the strict previously-undisclosed rules of ordering. They abandoned their Groupon as you can do better without it. For example, the honey walnut shrimp is $7.99 if you order another dish, but $15.99 if you use the Groupon. You cannot get the $11.99 lobster special (with another dish) with the Groupon. Rules, rules, rules and more rules. GROAN. Is this the control freak cafe, or what? Such is life at the old Lung Fung. Next time we are going back to Fook Yuen where the honey walnut shrimp are MUCH BIGGER and with LESS MAYO. Not to say we don't like your food here, 'cause we do.

The food is good but very salty. I came here for my Chinese food fix. It doesn't compare to 626 area of course but good enough to cut the cravings. House Special Chow Mein - the noodles were not that crispy, a little more stale-ish Stir fry spinach with garlic - good, average veggie dish Chicken Wings - very flavorful but a little too salty. Black Pepper Beef Steak cubes - Good,I actually like this dish the most out of everything else.

I'm sad to give this place 2 stars because it used to be pretty good! The service was always good, a step up from Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. It's really obvious the waiters had some type of training. The boss is also always friendly. But several times when I went recently, the quality just went downhill. Not sure if I just happened to go on bad days. The worst experience was this past Mother's Day when we went for dinner. Even though it was the night before Mother's Day and there was a big party occupying the entire half of the room, you would think they would have more staff on hand. I only saw 2 waiters plus the boss. We waited for 15 minutes or more to order and even longer for the food to arrive and then even longer for them to get the check. They were so understaffed the boss had to help seat people, refill tea, take orders, process money, and deliver food. The food was not good (maybe we had a different chef because I remember it was really good before) and you can find better food in town. I wouldn't come here for a long while. Hopefully by then, they will be restored to their former glory.

Balloons, favors, cake, games, invitations, guest list and and..... is there anything else? Party planning is stressful and the checklist is endless. Finding the perfect venue will make everything less frustrating. Lung Fung has a large variety of authentic Chinese food on their menu or if you prefer some local favorites - beef broccoli, sweet and sour spareribs, kung pao chicken. It is the best place to host your upcoming graduation parties, birthday parties, or just family dinners. Niu Valley has an abundant of parking available to our their guests. Recommendation: Try the Pineapple Fried Rice. Just the right combination of flavors. The perfect complement to your dishes tonight.

Came here for dinner to use a Groupon 3 weeks ago. We ordered the honey walnut chicken, mapo tofu and beef noodles. Sad to say, we were disappointed. We have eaten here before but the quality has gone down!. A lot! Honey walnut chicken: Expected it to taste somewhat like honey walnut shrimp but all it was steamed chicken breast pieces in some sauce - tasted like a lot of cornstarch filling. could not taste any honey or sweetness for that matter. Bland, no taste. Few pieces of honeyed walnut. Mapo Tofu: It was soup with chunks of tofu floating in it. Could not even spoon it over rice, it was so watery. The noodles was the best dish of the three. That saved it from being a one star.

I came here for my friend's daughter birthday, they had a party of at least 30. My friend's been telling me how good this place is, but the Food was terrible...I had ordered the sweet and sour pork, the rice was dry, and the pork was too tough! My friends had ordered the minute chicken...which is usually good, but today the food was terrible! They even found a dead FLY in the food. Gross!!! This wasn't a good first time for me, but I'll take my friends words that they just had a bad day today. Service was slow, and they do not give refills on fountain drinks.

amazing food, great service!!! they change your plates, refill water and tea without me even asking once! we ordered the salt and pepper lobster which was garlicky and crispy, young chow fried rice, minute chicken cake noodle, and honey walnut shrimp. the sauce for the cake noodle was not too thick and lots of veggies!

Okay, I get it. Authentic Chinese restaurants often have really bad service. But this should never mean that any place with great service should be thought of as inauthentic. That type of thinking is specious, racist and borderline fascist... probably. You're not a fascist, are you? I had dinner at Lung Fung two nights ago with my family. We had the Groupon, and not only did they honor it without trouble, they made sure we maximized the value we got out of it. We didn't reach our limit (though I suspect it's because they undercharged us for whatever reason), and the nice waitress gave us a heads up. We ended up taking a box of chow funn for home. The service here is incredible. Our waitress was incredibly friendly, and I heard the owner talking to a table next to ours with so much care and attention. I've been eating at Chinese restaurants all my life and this is rare. Food is prepared better than most Chinese restaurants, though it's not as superb as the best. Portions were hearty. Very pleased. Would return.

I was surprised.....to say the least. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't really like chinese food, seeing that I was raised on and practically had chinese food shoved down my throat all my life. Unfortunately for me, I am obligated as the good familial daughter that I am, to attend these mandatory dinners with my parents at, you guessed it, chinese restaurants. SURPRISINGLY (pleasantly surprised) there is a delicious chinese restaurant neatly tucked away in the corner of Aina Haina shopping Center. This restaurant is really clean, properly staffed, and the food is make-my-taste-buds-dance good. Also pulling out my Chinese card....the menu won't break your wallet :) Extra star: the entire center's power went out half way through our 10 course meal and the restaurant still managed to pump out the rest of our food at a quick pace and delicious standard. What a SURPRISE!

4 1/2 STARS The food was amazing!! Roast Duck was better than any other Duck we've had in Honolulu, very tender and juicy. Honey Shrimp & Walnuts was as good as Fook Yuen which is our go-to spot for that dish. War Won Ton was really good and not salty, nice filling also. Shrimp Rice was good. Weak dish of the day was the Sweet and Sour Pork, rather average. Great Service! Price was reasonable. Can't wait to return!

Chinese restaurants should be rated by their restrooms. And, LF has a very spotless bathroom. The food is quality, not oily, not fatty. The specials are well thought out and good sized portions. There is no brown rice option. There is a small room off to the side that seats about ten or twelve. Its good for meetings or special occasions. For a relatively reasonable price, you can rent out the entire restaurant, too. Not sure how many tables/people you can have though, maybe 110? There is a full bar and the beer is always cold. Lunch specials come with free soda. Service is excellent, most of the staff have been there for years and know the menu quite well. Eddie, the Manager/Owner is always up for suggestions, too. LF does a lot of take out, which is great for potlucks or just for a quick meal at home.

I have been here many times over the past year. Good has ranged from mediocre on some dishes to good on others. The only consistent things about this restaurant is the poor and slow service. It doesn't matter if the restaurant is full or half full they have the same amount of staff. Usually they cannot handle the volume. Most of the tables on a Sunday night are larger parties who have reservations so they should be able to adjust for the volume. I have decided not to go back again. It was convenient due to location but there are better choices on the east side that combine better good and service.

First off, I'm not a big fan of chinese food even though I'm chinese. But Lung Fung does have some good quality dishes. However I thought overall their dishes were hit or miss. We got there around 6pm and the restaurant was pretty empty. Apprently my family likes meat dishes as there was only ONE vegetable dish ordered. The fried chicken was nice and had crispy skin yelp.com/user_local_phot… . The roast duck was also very good and had a nice smoky flavor to it, albeit the buns were unnecessary as it was not PEKING DUCK yelp.com/user_local_phot… . the garlic fried crab was also quite tasty. yelp.com/user_local_phot… and it was masterly piled :). The fish that was ordered was unusual in that it had both shoyu and black beans... probably shoulda just stuck to one or the other.http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?Âuserid=Y3mo8Zw10PfGRsy-u20aFw&select=6Ex05q7Le8Kh1ÂOY4swX90w. The rest of the dishes ordered were quite mediocre. I especially didn't like the rice which contained pieces of fat from char siu and the choy sum had these "fish" flakes which I initially thought was bacon. mmm bacon....I'd much rather have had bacon instead or just plain without the fish flakes at all. Desert is typical of other chinese restaurants, almond tofu or mango pudding. Personally I liked the mango pudding better. The almond tofu contained pineapple which was a nice change from the usual fruit contail/sugary syrup. If you live in East Oahu/ the Hawaii Kai area, Lung Fung is great if you're craving some Chinese food. However, I live in Waipahu and the 20+ mile to get here is just not worth it. Also the name doesn't match...The english name is Lung Fung..the chinese name is zhong shan gong ( yelp.com/biz_photos/s1Dm… )

Lung Fung...The food was surprisingly good! And this is coming from a Chinese who doesn't like Chinese food! Okay so the restaurant is like a Hee Hing/Mandalay but smaller, cheaper and more casual. So when you walk in you sort of feel as if you're in China or China Town. There's foreign decor, chandeliers, plants, and giant wall artwork. The only thing I didn't really care for was the Chinese instrumental music playing in the background...it kind of gave me goose-bumps in the beginning... As for the food, I would say the best dishes were probably the peking duck and the roast duck. Both the peking duck and the roast duck look exactly the same as any other Chinese restaurant. But what's different is the taste! The skin is very crispy and hot so you can tell is hasn't been sitting out on the side. What I wouldn't get again would be the black bean asparagus beef...it was very bland and nothing special. Plus the beef was inconsistent. Some pieces were soft and tender while others were very chewy. Since I'm not a fan of Chinese food I would say the best part was the tea! They had a very flavorful jasmine tea with a great floral aroma. On top of that I think that the service is up to par...or even surpasses the Mandalay or Hee Hing. The waiter always refilled our water and kept giving us clean plates. She would even poor me more tea when my tea was running low (which has never been done at the Mandalay or Hee Hing)! So if you out in Niu Valley and want some Chinese food, Lung Fung is the way to go!

2012 Resolution #4: Conquer your fears. Over four years ago, I got more than I expected during a dinner at a downtown Chinese restaurant which served us a dish of Ginger Chicken with all the fixings (head and toes). Personally, I like to be looking at my meal without it looking back at me. That experience left me so emotionally scarred, I never ate Chinese food for nearly 4 yrs! Fast forward to May 2012, I finally conquer my fear of Chinese food. Ambience: A bit run down but clean, the decor is your typical family style Chinese restaurant with lazy susans on every table. Dragons covering the walls, fish tank filled with lobsters with frightened faces watching humans eating their roommates. Food plusses: Roast duck: Thin, crispy skin, not greasy, just the right amount of seasoning, moist inside - wish the shrimp chips accompanying it was a bit crispier...but good nonetheless. Salt & Chili Pepper Shrimp: Great flavor, crisp outside. Steamed fish with black bean sauce: tender, moist filets of white fish with black bean sauce with chili peppers... very good, everyone seemed to enjoy this one. Honey Walnut Shrimp: The candied walnuts were good. Just a little too much mayo covering the shrimp. Maine Lobster with Garlic Butter Sauce: although messy to eat and takes a lot of effort for very little food, but it did have a good flavor. Tip: Don't stare at the fish tank, the sad faces of the other lobsters in the tank will make you feel so guilty that you will become vegan.... minuses: Egg drop soup: ordinary, light taste - bit bland, good for those watching their sodium intake. Mongolian beef with pineapple: Soft but a bit salty for my taste, would pass on this one. Fried rice: damn this thing is hot, should be called "fired" rice. - this one is kinda a toss up.... not bad. Bok choy with garlic chili sauce: Choi sum stems a bit stringy and flavor needs to be kicked up a notch. Just a little bland. Service: A bit slow, but not pushy like some Dim Sum places in downtown that seem like they are trying to sell you a used car instead of pork hash. Plus, service is cordial, I feel like I am being yelled at many Chinese restaurants but not at this one. Verdict: No faces or feet on that plate of chicken, yes! I am no way a connoisseur of Chinese food but I was pleasantly surprised during my visit to Lung Fung. If I am out in East Honolulu, I would visit this place again.

For those of you who buy certificates from Restaurant.com , for some odd reason, the owner will not honor this. We had a $15 certificate, but he said that his restaurant is not affiliated with this site. We have used a certificate at another establishment in the past so the site is legitimate. The food itself was ok, but won't be back because it seems somewhat dishonest and we were disappointed.

Very good, tasty dishes. A lot of my family friends who are Chinese think this restaurant is great and come here regularly. Their fish is very moist and soft, and seafood soup very full of seafood and delicious. Service is very good, and owner comes over to talk to us and serve us himself. The stars that I took off is for the indigestion/heartburn I felt an hour after eating here. I don't even get those symptoms at American fast food places...what?

Tucked away in the Niu Valley Shopping Center near KFC and Gyotaku in East Honoulu, Lung Fung is my go-to place for Chinese cuisine. I've dined at Lung Fung and have done take out on several occasions over the past few years. The food is very, very good and consistent. My faves: Singapore rice noodle (generous lunch take out portion -- with drink -- will last me several meals). My husband like the better melon lunch special. Walnut Shrimp (light and crispy). Salt and pepper shrimp, crab, OR lobster (nicely seasoned). Shrimp fried rice (love the garlic flakes in it). Peking Duck (moist, not oily). Prices are reasonable. Superb service -- friendly, helpful, not rushed like many other Chinese food establishments. Nice decor and relaxing vibe. A private room will fit one table of 10-12, but they will partition sections of the restaurant for larger parties. The big bonus: I like that I don't feel thirsty after leaving the restaurant. While MSG in shoyu, etc. is to be expected, it seems that the restaurant doesn't add extra MSG like many others. Good on you, Lung Fung!

Hello Chinese food lovers....this is my 3+ times in 6 months visiting this place and not ashamed of using Groupon hehe.... The food is decent and not too heavy compare to other typical Chinese places ...why I keep coming back? #1, close to Hawaii Kai #2, the lady server she is Taiwanese (owner is Cantonese) and she is always friendly and attentive , even thou at times she is the only one serving ) #3, they will cater to your taste if you asked for it. and not to mention I used the Groupon deal...lol

I so wish I could like this place more! decor? old-fashioned chinese glam. chandeliers, gilded ceiling, phoenix and dragon carvings, etc. The staff are fantastically friendly, especially this guy who I think was the owner? He came around asking everyone how their food was, when he found out my mom spoke Canto, he asked her if she wanted some free calendars! He asked us how many we wanted and so we asked for two. We also had a coupon for $10 off, and instead, he took $12 off (an entree)! He went around talking to all the different tables, making everyone feel welcome. So staff = 5 stars. Food, however, I would give 2 stars. It's my first time, and it's possible we just ordered the wrong dishes, but the food didn't seem fresh. We ordered the salt and pepper fish (recommended by the owner), and the fish tasted...well, fishy, and neither salty nor peppery. And fishy tasting fish is usually not fresh fish. we also ordered crispy gau gee noodles. the gau gee weren't really that flavorful, and neither were the crazy amount of ingredients on the noodles. (char siu, chicken, shrimp, american broccoli, chinese broccoli, water chesnuts, etc) the noodles were perfectly done, and the sauce was tasty, and the vegetables were fresh, but the rest of the ingredients just had very little flavor. they seem to have a very loyal clientele--the guy one table over said "i'll have my usual". i wish i could like you more, lung fung...i'll have to come back and try something else.

My family and I came here after my brother got one of those online coupons from Hot Hawaii Deals. We got $25 off our entire purchase. Pretty sweet! My parents are extremely picky eaters when it comes to Chinese cuisine. They rarely try anything outside of Chinese food and are often resistant to change. We go to the same restaurants every time we go out for that reason. But since we had a coupon, we had an excuse to try something new (thank goodness...my brother and I were getting tired of the same few restaurants). My parents actually liked it!! Coming from them, that says a lot. Some dishes were a tad salty, but overall, everything was great. I especially liked their Black Pepper Beef. Downside...There aren't any three..four..five course specials typical of most Chinese restaurants. Don't expect any free dessert or oranges at the end of the meal either. I mean, that doesn't hurt my opinion of the restaurant but it'd be nice to see that in the future!

If you need to do one of those table for 10 set menu because of visitors or gathering than check this place out.Not your standard peking duck w/ bun, noodle dish ,type of fare but different menu items that make it interesting. If you need a duck dish, you'll have to ala carte because you get crispy skin chicken instead.I also think that because it wasn't crowded the food was brought promptly and service very attentive (it was a thursday evening). Highlight was Lobster dish which had 3 nice size ones meaning 4 lucky eaters got the claws. Tip..sit close to where the waitress place the dish to get em. Big claw meat on those. Highlight 2...salt and pepper shrimp were big and steam fish fillets w/ginger onion. Also we had 4 older children with 8 adults so it was 12 altogether yet the restaurant accomodated our added seats graciously. Another thing is they serve a fried rice as the starch and it was more of a stand alone dish so you have to order white rice (recommended) because of all the assorted courses.Remember when Rice was complimentary? Pros:Seafood is the reason here. Cons:No duck.No noodles(they're filler anyway)

I used to enjoy taking food out from here, but recently we've found the veggies and seafood to be old. We could not eat one of the dishes.

Crispy gau gee was really good with a good amount of filling. Loved the salt fish chicken fried rice- not too skimpy on the salt fish like other Chinese restaurants. The Mongolian beef, however, was a little too sweet and starchy. sweet and starchy chinese food is gross. Since it's so close and the first two dishes were pretty good, I'd definitely try other dishes.

Scallop soup. Chinese chicken salad. Ong choy with bean curd paste. Cold ginger chicken. Four reasons to go back to Hawaii as often as possible. My husband thinks the food it just ok, but I write that off to him being haole. It's not his fault.

I don't think its possible to make more generic/bland Chinese food. I've tried this place a few times in the past 20 years and it never gets better, if anything it just gets worse, if thats possible. The only good restaurant in Niu Valley is Le Bistro. True fact.

One star for the ong choy, porkchops and rice, but that's it. I'm so glad I did not bring my parents and family to this place, as I had originally planned for a full set course banquet. I figured we'd try it out first with a Groupon and we did, with my mom-in-law who is very forgiving. Unfortunately, I am not so easygoing when it comes to major lapses such as the one we experienced this evening. The biggest issue concerns our order of Braised Duck with Chestnuts Casserole. It was the last dish to arrive (it came 15 minutes after we finished the other dishes) and we ended up with a casserole full of .. broken/end pieces such as wing joints, a hip joint, backbones, AND tons of gizzards. Not a single meaty piece (such as a breast or drumstick) in the pot. We were hungry so we ate what we could, but at the end, I wanted to talk to someone about it. And when I say, tons of gizzards, I mean I ate 4-5 gizzards and then wondered what was going on with this dish. I don't recall ordering Braised Duck Bone and Gizzard Casserole. I spoke to the waitress and asked to speak to the manager, her boss. She thought I wanted a box. So I switched to Chinese. Now, there's no miscommunication. She said she would go talk to him. So she went to the back and returned to apologize that the dish was created beforehand and it was the luck of the draw that we happened - just happened - to end up with a casserole pot full of end pieces, bones, and gizzards. The manager/owner/boss who was walking around the restaurant and making sure everyone else was enjoying their meal, purposely did not come to our table. Now, I want to make it clear. I did not expect any deductions from our bill, but I wanted a sincere apology from the person who ran the restaurant. Why should I be angry at the staff who is not in charge? She said the dish was supposed to be like that. Okay, so they charge $13.95 for a bunch of gizzards, duck bones, chestnuts, and cabbage??? Really? Even a simple sincere acknowledgment from the manager would have made all the difference, but I guess it's too much to expect a manager of a business to show concern for his customers these days. As we were leaving, I told her to tell her boss/owner that we were not going to return. She nodded. I also told her I would be writing a review on Yelp. No response. I know this restaurant is something of a fixture in the East Honolulu community, but if this is the result of being jaded, perhaps you may want to remove it from your future consideration as I have.

I purchased a Groupon for this restaurant that is to expire in 2 days... I took my family out to dinner tonight looking forward to trying out a restaurant close to home. It's actually got a pretty nice interior, which made us even more excited. We were seated pretty quickly, and received our water and hot tea. We decided to order the seafood & tofu soup, salted fish & diced chicken fried rice, beef&asparagus, and salt and pepper lobster (little brother's request)... if only someone would come around to take our order... hmmm. 15 min. later we are discovered. We place our order, mention the Groupon, and are ready to eat... (btw, the salt & pepper lobster without a Groupon $12.95, but with Groupon $18.95. Okay, doesn't make sense to me, but my brother wants to try.. fine) The soup comes out about 5 minutes later and we are happy. Hot and pretty good, especially with some white pepper. Okay, hot tea and soup in our bellies, and we are ready for more... watching all of the staff walking briskly from the tables to the kitchen, twiddling our thumbs... then our beef and asparagus comes out... more waiting and 15 minutes later our fried rice came out. Okay, so the food is not too bad, but the service is not that great. (we never did get a refill of hot tea..). So I also noticed a poster at the entrance of the restaurant that stated a special for honey walnut shrimp for $7.95 with purchase of another entree. We kept trying to ask one of the staff if we could order it at the special price, but apparently nobody had enough time to focus on us for a few minutes to answer our question. The lady that we did manage to catch asked us if we had a coupon, and said cannot. We asked her if she could check if we could have it at the special price and we had to ask her several times if she found out, before she finally said yes... and quickly walked away. During all of this we also asked several times about our lobster. We were pretty amused about the whole thing... Amazing that our shrimp actually came out before the lobster! When our lobster came out it wasn't hot, there was more garlic than lobster meat, and the server who dropped it off even said "we made a mistake" under her breath. Okay, again, food is okay, service is questionable. I don't know if they need more staff or need to figure out a new system. It looked like one person, the man in a red shirt, took all of the orders and casheired, while 3-4 female servers dropped off the food to the tables. I think they were all just confused :-\ After finishing our meal there was more thumb twiddling.. and grandma was getting sleepy. It felt like we had been forgotten... my little brother changed his mind abt getting dessert after seeing how long it took for everything else... when the guy dropped off our bill i told himwe weren't very happy - the lobster took way too long and it didn't have a lot of meat (we sucked the shell to make the most of it :-/) it didn't make sense that we had to pay extra for the lobster because we were using a Groupon, and even less after the long wait and disappointing results :-( He pointed out that he told me the price and that I shouldn't try to get a discount. WOW, the nerve! I told him the service was such a disappointment and he mumbled sorry and walked away! He just did not care about what his customer had say! My mom told make to double check that we were given the special price for the honey walnut shrimp and we weren't, so when he came back I point it out to him and he said no discount, you're already using a coupon. But, we told him that one of the servers told us it was okay. So he asked, "Who is it?! They will pay the difference out of their own pocket! He does not have any customer service skills. He brings out the server, and she claims we did not mention the coupon, but says she'll pay the difference. When I go to pay the bill, I tell the guy again that the service was not good at all and he tells me "everyone works hard here". I guess I don't work hard for the money I make to be able to live and take my family out to dinner to enjoy a good meal? Does that mean I should suck it up and shut up? He kept trying to overtalk me instead of listening to me saying he was busy. RUDE. He miscalculated the bill so I corrected him. He gave me the receipt to sign and I did not include any tips as my mom advised me. That's when he tells me he has the right to refuse service to me next time. My response: "Don't worry, I don't want to come back here!" All the waiting we could've let pass, but his rude behavior was not acceptable in any way. What a nightmare if he is the owner... no business sense. Yes, we are using a Groupon, that's been paid for. A valid coupon offered by the restaurant. Apparently it means receiving poor service because you are getting "a deal". And I guess it means raising prices on items. It should mean great service to turn you from a first-time customer to a repeat customer. I give one star for the interior.

We've been there a number of times-using groupon and as regular diners. the main attraction is the staff and owners-who really try to make you feel at home. Sometime difficulty when they have big parties in the back rook or in the back of the restaurant. the seafood is worth buying-salt and pepper shrimp / clams with black beans however wee have not been impressed with the chicken pork or beef offerings Cantonese dishes. i have heard the mandarin dishes are good so will have to go back and do more research. nice neighborhood restaurant for families friends and parties. casual dining

Lung Fung is in Niu Valley shopping center next to Gyotaku. I've always passed by but have never eaten here....how they've lasted this long, I have no idea. My BF's family and I had dinner at Lung Fung on a Sunday night. We had a set course meal: 1. Ginger Soup with pork, tofu, and veggies We all liked this soup! They do a good job of keeping it simple and comforting. 2. Roast chicken with shrimp chips I didn't try this because I was being all girly and didn't want to pick through the bones and skin. General consensus on our table - "it was allright". 3. Steamed Fish with black bean sauce Hands down, THE best thing we tried that night! Tender fish fillets in a TASTY black bean sauce with red chilies. I would've been satisfied with just this on top of rice! This dish disappeared in 2 minutes flat. 4. Garlic crispy shrimp It looked more like garlic with a side of shrimp; this would've warded off a whole coven of vampires! I passed on this too, everyone else said it was SALTY. 5. Garlic pork chops Pieces of pork chops immersed in more garlic and Chinese 5 spice. I really can't stand 5 spice, so I had one tiny piece and called it quits. 6. Chow mein I think this was supposed to be a beef chow mein, but we only found 5 tiny pieces. It was BLAND and had a smoky/burnt flavor. Yuck. 7. Bok Choy Simple Bok Choy that was wok fried with garlic. We probably would have enjoyed this more if it was delivered to our table 3 courses earlier, instead of being what we jokingly referred to as "the dessert". The meal also included Jasmine rice and hot tea. Most of the food was bland, which wouldn't have been so bad (that's what hot mustard is for!), but the real killer was that each course arrived S-L-O-W-L-Y. Every time something else arrived at our table, it was devoured in minutes because we were so hungry! It really looked like they cheated us on the portion sizes - in what world was that enough food for 16 people?! I think we all ate more rice than normal just to try to get full. If it wasn't for all the desserts (that we brought ourselves), we would have ended up at McD's afterward! We practically had to beg to get water refills. One of the uncles almost walked to the kitchen to get it himself! One waitress in particular was entertaining and very friendly; I think she (and the black bean fish!) saved them from a one-star rating. I would NOT recommend coming here in a large group. We felt as if we were ignored/given less service because they knew they could auto-grat us due to the size of our party. Most likely not returning.

Service was good, but the food wasn't that good. The waitress was pretty accommodating and brought the food, chili sauce, water, etc quickly, despite a four-table Christmas party. The owner was pretty friendly, talked a little story and checked to make sure we had a good dinner (even filling up our tea). However, the food was sub-par. Peking style pork chops (gin doh gwat) was ordered off the menu but wasn't much to talk about. Beef with bittermelon was basically the same beef as beef with broccoli, but with different veggies. Jai was OK, but not particularly strong. Salt and pepper squid was the worst - squid was nice, but the batter was a little thick and actually made it taste sweet (read: not salty or spicy).

BEST Orange Chicken I've ever had... Ever. When the restaurant is busy, you notice how short staffed they are. Food comes quickly, but getting anyone's attention may be difficult. But I could wait hours for that Orange Chicken... hours.

My family has frequented Lung Fung for 10 or more years. Tonight will probably be the last time. I don't know if it's the Groupon that expires in a month or what, but I've never been in there with more than 3 or 4 other parties--I used to wonder how they stay in business. Tonight they were completely packed, with customers waiting. The waitress who usually helps us was just as good as usual, but she scolded the server for bringing us one of our main dishes (eggplant with garlic sauce) before our soup was even out. The server saw that there was no soup, and yet still put down the eggplant. I have never been served anything before the soup in a Chinese restaurant! Even though the waitress made the server take it away & brought the soup, but I'm pretty sure they served us the same dish of eggplant later on because it was barely even lukewarm! The eggplant was sparce, and there were way too many bamboo shoots--filler, in my opinion, "junks" in my Mom's opinion. The table next to us got the same dish and theirs was a bigger portion! Our next dish, imperial pork chops, were also skimpy, lukewarm, and far from imperial. There were several bone chips in the chops. Our last dish, duck with chestnuts in clay pot, came after we had finished all of our dishes. We were just about ready to cancel the dish. When we asked the waitress about it, she told us it was coming, but that the kitchen "cannot keep up". Obviously! The duck arrived nice & hot, but it was scrap pieces of duck, and mostly necks, fat and bones. There were a couple of gizzards and some other unidentifiable organ meats. The chestnuts were hard and dehydrated, and my Mom got some ginger that was so mushy and bad that she made a horrendous face. We didn't even bother to take what was left home b/c it was so bad. Finally, when we asked for the check, it took way too long for them to bring it. Considering there were customers lined up & waiting, we watched an employee clear and reset two tables while we still waited for our check. Even after we handed over our credit card, it still took way too long for them to bring back the charge slips. I'm glad we had a Groupon--the prices were quite high, especially for the portion sizes and low quality of the food. My one star is for the waitress who's been there as long as we've eaten there. She's always friendly, knows what she is doing, and she always seems to enjoy her job.

Went here recently because of an impulse Groupon purchase, and I'm glad I did! Granted I'm no Chinese food connoisseur, but I thought the food was delicious and the service wonderful. We ordered the house noodles Hong Kong style, sizzling beef platter, and spring rolls. Everything came out pretty quickly and very tasty. The owner and servers were friendly, and we had ourselves a great meal. Don't let the somewhat dingy outside fool ya - the inside is nicely decorated and very clean. I'll definitely be back.

Second time here. Better than the first. First time - lots of people, not so good food. Second time - we were the only ones, better food. Something is wrong with their air conditioning. First time - super cold with lots of people. Second time - super warm with only us. Maybe they turned off their a/c since no one was around. It got cooler a little later. Food? I'd say nothing spectacular, but ok. The hot sour soup was HOT and SOUR. No taste. No salty flavor. All you could taste was hot white pepper water. Even when I added extra vinegar, no taste. Steamed fish with ginger and green onion - Looks good. Texture is good. No taste. Add shoyu, and it's good! Everytime I do that I always think of "The Joy Luck Club" when the haole husband adds "soy sauce" to the mother's prized fish dish. Chili garlic pork chop - probably the most normal tasting food we ordered. A little tough, and the meat still stuck to the bones. Wasn't too tender, but good to eat. E-mein. This, I liked. Although it is completely plain with just mushrooms and snow peas, I liked it. We ordered with chicken, but the cooks didn't read the order, and didn't put chicken. They apologized. Didn't make too much of a big deal, b/c looked like the cooks were in a hurry to get home. Waitress/owner? Really nice. Kept telling us to take our time, as she gets paid overtime.... Didn't feel rushed at all, even though they close at 9pm, and we were the only ones dining in at the time.....

Purchased the last two Groupon offers they ran. It was a great deal: $15.00 for $30.00 worth of food. Dine in only. So far, we've tried the chicken with black bean sauce, bat jun cake noodle, sam see cake noodle, walnut shrimp, egg drop soup, beef and broccoli, and ginger chicken. All of the food has been great! The bat jun was the best of the cake noodles, but all were good. The only reason they do not get 5 stars is because the service is not 5 stars. It is still the typical service you expect in a Chinese restaurant: waitresses are a little pushy and curt, they spill the soup on the table when serving, they forget to check on you, so you end up having to get them to get your check or get take out boxes. It wouldn't stop me from going there, because it's like many other Chinese restaurants. It's just one area that could use improving. Good place to go if you live in the area. One last thing, I'm sensitive to MSG, but I always forget to tell the server. Yet, I've never felt ill after eating here.

After having three tables who arrived after us served before us and not having a menu (ended up getting it ourselves), no drinks for the first twenty minutes. The food was ordinary at best and the sizzling platter was anything but! The only thing worse than the food was the service and this is the second time we have been here. A wide berth is highly suggested.

Got a GREAT Groupon deal and used it for our Hawaii vacation while in HNL. This place is near Hawaii Kai. I read the fine print and FAQ and know that usually all these Groupon deals will not use toward lunch or dinner specials. So, there is no whatsoever surprise when I presented the voucher to the server during dinner. This place has a nice decor inside. We were there on the eve of Labor Day around 8:15 pm. So, no crowd. Restroom is clean and that is thumb up! Our server is very attentive even though we are Groupon customer. THAT IS THUMB UP again on this! We order Lobster stir fry with ginger and scallions, Yang Chow Fried Rice, Choi Sum(a type of Chinese vegetables) and House Special Chow Mein. They taste OKAY, maybe slightly bland BUT I LIKE NOT SALTY foods. Definitely would visit this place if I ever visit HNL again.

I was hesitant to eat here as it was rather dark and... empty. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this place was. Reading all of the other reviews, I think that with this place, you need to know what to order. My auntie did all of the ordering and they were good. The chinese chicken salad (which I would normally never order at a chinese restaurant) looked a bit sad but was super tastey... maybe on the sweet side, but tastey none the less. The biggest surprise was the beef with sour cabbage. I had never had it before and it sounded a little uji, but there was something very addictive about the pungent sourness of the cabbage. yum! yum! hmmm... maybe it's the sour stuff that are good here? I had a few other things that weren't bad but were also not so memorable, but I had to give the 5-stars for those two plates.

You know.....usually I don't expect much from the service at Chinese restaurants, in fact from my experience I usually go in expecting bad service. I have nothing but good things to say about this place though!! This place had a real authentic asian restaurant feel which I liked. You start with chopsticks unless you request a fork. Free complimentary tea as soon as you sit down, great polite service, never without water, the food came out fast, and it was good. We got the chicken fried noodles and spicy basil scallops. I would give 5 stars, but the food had too much butter in it and was a bit overwhelming, I usually try to eat healthy but it was semi difficult to do that here. I would go here again.

Sooo disappointed! I bought a Groupon for here before our vacation and I was excited to try this place during our visit. The reviewers raved about this place so when we got our food, I was pissed. I order the fried noodles with chicken and it lacked flavor. It was also VERY dry to the point you could choke on it! My fiance ordered the kung pao beef and the meat tasted off...scary. I took two bites of my noodles and had them pack it to go....I ended up giving it to the homeless. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars vs 1 is because the lady who served us was nice, the restaurant was clean and my bf liked the almond jello desert.

My husband and I were referred to Lung Fung during a last minute scramble to find a venue to host our rehearsal dinner. To be entirely truthful, we liked the place because the menu had so many combo packages that were entirely affordable. We signed on for a dinner for 30 people. The week before, we decided to check out the food at the restaurant. My goodness, the food was so delish. I LOVED that I could actually taste/smell traces of orange when eating orange chicken! No thick batter, no orange syrup-- just orange flavored chicken! And their Peking duck was done right. Good, edible portions, not too greasy, sensible serving size. We were so confident in our decision to host our dinner there. A huge +++ is that the owner came over to ask how we were enjoying our food. We love being solicited for our opinion on the food and service. I'm really being redundant by including that I received so many thanks and compliments from our friends and family at our rehearsal dinner. Mahalo to Lung Fung. This is for keeps.

Decided to have my daughters 2nd birthday party here at the last minute. Things that affected the decision was the price of hte party packages (7 course meal for 10 starting at $100!) Though we havent been her in 1.5 years, service was still good, the food was tasty, and it wasnt very croweded at noon on a saturday. Since our party was thrown at the last minute, half our list couldnt make it and we upgraded from the cheaper menu E to the $190/table set list with a few alterations. Thats the cool thing too - changing the items for same or lesser value isnt a problem.

my family gathers again at the table of Lung Fung. great food, attentive service (authentic fobby): -salt and chili pepper fried shrimp -salt and chili pepper fried ribs -roasted duck -e-mein with snow peas and mushrooms -snow pea sauteed beef -deep fried oysters -"8 treasures" clay pot -yang chow fried rice -portuguese chicken (curry) -free dessert: mango pudding, tapioca, almond tofu and grass jelly they even gave out calendars this time...i guess it's the year of the ox next year (which means absolutely nothing to me).

We were in the Niu Valley neighborhood and looking for a quick lunch so we stopped into Lung Fung. Lung Fung has been there for as long as I can remember. However, the last time I was there was probably over 10 years ago because the food was so-so and the service so- so. I had heard that several years ago they were under new owners, but never made it in until today. It was a great lunch! I was pleasantly surprised that the manager Eddie is the same manager of Hong Kong Harborview (Aloha Tower above Hooters). I used to eat lunch there about once a week and always had a great lunch! Today we had a simple lunch of Won Ton Min and Beef Chow Fun. Hubby & I both enjoyed our meal and the prices were very reasonable. (Nothing like Jade Dynasty!) The restaurant was renovated several years ago and it did appear to be clean. This was a wonderful serendipity and I will most definitely be back.

Our visit last night was incredible. Their salt & pepper shrimp dish was superb; one really has to sample to appreciate it. Also, their eggplant dish was unique and delicious. We had eaten there countless times in the past, and somehow, this time it was highly memorable and deserved the 4 star rating. Keep up the great cooking!

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Chicken with black bean sauce on crispy noodle. best chinese food on the south side of the island since yen king closed down.

Good food, good value. Manager (owner?) is great. Stops by our table every time and makes sure food and service is consistently good.

Great food, great waitresses, easy parking, been going there for 20 years.

Not good for vegetarians! Yes they have some veggie foods, but kind of tasteless.

If you like recycled Bruce Lee movie props as décor, food utterly lacking flavor, and mediocre service, then you have stumbled upon your new favorite Chinese joint! I tried this place tonight for dinner with my boyfriend, and it quite literally left a bad taste in our mouths. I'm a HUGE fan of divey Chinese places, so it's not like I have a prejudice against the cuisine. Actually I'm such fan that the meal tonight was all the more tragic. We waited about five minutes to be seated even though they had 5 waitresses circulating and the place was 3/4 empty. Still hopeful, we sat down and thanked our waitress when she offered us water and tea. Ten minutes later the water arrives along with menus (still no tea). We ordered the spring rolls and our entrées and finally got tea after another 5 minutes. The tea was barely more than warm water it was so flavorless. The spring rolls came out warm and crunchy. They lacked filling besides a few sprigs of carrots and cabbage. The accompanying sauce tasted like a McDonald's BBQ sauce mixed with shoyu. The spring rolls were simultaneously a disappointment and the best part of our meal. My boyfriend had the cashew chicken. The chicken was really low quality and rather chewy. The vegetables (carrots, celery, and bamboo shoots) were all overdone and mushy. Some cashews were cooked, others raw. The whole thing was bland. I had the General Tso's chicken (typically a favorite of mine). The chicken was breaded like one would do for sweet and sour, which is all wrong for General Tso's. I could've ignored that if the flavors were good, but, unfortunately, it was just a raw, overpowering combination of spicy and sour. The heat was good, but there were zero other flavors to make that heat delicious. It was a lazy rendition of a dish I usually cherish. Both of us barely finished a third of our meals. I'd be embarrassed to serve such that quality of food, and I am by no means a chef! ;) My boyfriend asked our waitress for the bill, and she told him no because I still had food on my plate, so I obviously wasn't done eating yet. Excuse me?! A customer asks for the bill and you refuse to bring it out?! She treated him like he was her grandkid who wasn't allowed to get up from the table till he'd eaten all his veggies. We waited another fifteen minutes till we were able to ask a different waitress for the bill. She struggled with redeeming our groupon but was at least quite polite. I will never return here with or without a groupon--37% off disgusting food is still a total waste...and worse than that: a waste of a chance to eat at one of the countless delicious Chinese places in Honolulu!

(4)Rob D.
(4)Yon S.
Whew. Have to remember how expensive this place is. 5 entrees take out, $70! Ouch.
(2)Pua M.
(1)Mark Y.

Lung Fung's Clam in Black Bean sauce is amazing & fresh. The Manager, Eddie, and all the staff were very accommodating & friendly. Great local gem!

Great food and great service. The green beans were fabulous. So was the shrimp fried rice and chow fung noodle with beef.

(5)Russel M.

(2)Dianna D.
(3)Dori F.

(3)Jenny F.
(2)Helen C.
(4)Dylan Y.
(4)Murray O.
I used to enjoy taking food out from here, but recently we've found the veggies and seafood to be old. We could not eat one of the dishes.
(2)Misty P.
(3)Cheryl D.
Scallop soup. Chinese chicken salad. Ong choy with bean curd paste. Cold ginger chicken. Four reasons to go back to Hawaii as often as possible. My husband thinks the food it just ok, but I write that off to him being haole. It's not his fault.
(5)Jon S.
I don't think its possible to make more generic/bland Chinese food. I've tried this place a few times in the past 20 years and it never gets better, if anything it just gets worse, if thats possible. The only good restaurant in Niu Valley is Le Bistro. True fact.
(1)Nommie M.

Really good food, reasonable prices & surprisingly great service!
