I'm psychic and have a very developed sixth sense, so I'm already sensing what you're thinking: "A cafe at golf course? You have got to be kidding me." I know my mind reading abilities are astounding. You can leave a tip at the door on your way out. But seriously, if you're in the mood to totally break all your new years resolutions to be healthy and make good choices, then this is YOUR PLACE! I came here because I just didn't feel like going to the gym and my rebellious side came out kicking, screaming, and demanded we eat some type of deep fried pork chop. Plus my boyfriend wanted to go to the driving range to hit balls with a friend. We are excellent multi-taskers. Located at the bottom floor of the Ala Wai golf course club house, this cafe is nothing fancy so please come expecting very little. The carpet is the cheap grey stuff they put out at the airport, there is no special lighting to make you look hotter, and 95% of the people there are older dudes who just golfed all day. I know, so sexy right? If you're into 60 year old asian men that golf and drink Coors Light, this is your nirvana baby! All joking aside, this is a great place to get your deep fried local food fix and my two recommendations are the pork chop, the garlic chicken and the chicken gizzards. The poke here is also very good and the fish quality is solid. Food is not quite as good as Home Bar or Side Street, but for the price you're getting a deal. What's less than desirable is the service, because although the folks that work at the cafe are super nice, they are understaffed and you can forget about having someone service your table to fill up your drinks. My suggestion would be to grab everything by the pitcher; soda, water, beer, anything you can get your hands on!

I guess this restaurant is not for me. I tried it again yesterday because of my friends wanting to go there because of convenience. There was only 1 waiter so we have to wait. Prior to yesterday's visit, my last one was a bad experience. Our group waited for a long time. And when my food came, it was the wrong fish. My friends find the beer pitchers reasonably priced. But I am not a beer drinker. Anyway, I love hanging out with my friends but I guess if I am hungry, I just have to dine by myself somewhere else.

Nice View, Friendly Owners, Good Homestyle food deserves 5 stars. BYOB at present till the Liquor license arrives in a few weeks. Prices for Breakfast start at $3.00 and everything else is priced right. Give it a try.

The food is expensive and the quality is poor, for the money Rainbows is better. We had the Teri beef and Garlic chicken plates and it came out to $20 not worth it.

Finally this place opened up. i can get some burgers and fries before my game start. Alawai golf course didn't have a cafe downstairs before. I would have to bring the food and drinks from outside before i come to play golf. They have full kitchen with bars where you can get beer and food. food cost isn't so bad and so far all the food i tried was good. Maybe it's because i'm hungry from so much walking on the course. it was very refreshing to get a cold beer right after i was done with golf on the hot day. There are TV's all over the wall so you can watch your sports while you enjoy food. Waiter was very kind and sweet. I would come back and eat here again.

Office Lunch...we thought we'd try someplace different. In passing someone said that the Hamburger Steak was the dish to try. I had the Fried Chicken plate and the dudes had the Hamburger Steak and the Loco Moco... First- for the price ($7/$8) we thought we'd get a bunch of food...NOPE... The hamburger steak was full of FILLERS (bread)...And my other coworker paid additional $1.00 for 2 eggs over the Hamburger Steak....Normally if you ordered something with GRAVY, your food would be swimming in it.. This one wasn't...Not enough gravy. Second-the chicken was so under seasoned...Didn't like it at all.... Sorry, but you get only one star from me....

My secret is out! A belated review for this hidden gem of a place to enjoy local food, sports, and Hawaiian music. Fat Boy's is spacious, clean, and has the best flat screen TV's for sports viewing (sorry Sidestreet, St Louis Alumni, Macaroni Grill, Island's,Tsukiji's, Asahi Grill and Champions). I love the beautiful view of the the Ala Wai golf course while I need to "heist" some wifi to catch up on business. Owner Carroll and his staff: Keola, Harry, Betsy, Valerie are so accommodating in providing your great service and local food! For those who want to hula to live music, come down and bring your friends or halau. You cannot find live musician's who know traditional Hawaiian mele anymore but at Fat Boy's! Did I mention parking is free and plenty? Come down to the Ala Wai Clubhouse and enjoy breakfast that starts early 5:30 (no line btw) lunch, dinner til 8pm. Live music Thurs-Sat starts 5pm and ends about 8:30pm. Upscale wines and beers including Stella, Longboard, Heineken on tap!

Ever since Fat Boy's took over this establishment, I've been coming over here with some friends on Sundays for lunch. The lechon kawali is my favorite plate to get and the portions that they give you are very generous, especially for the price. They have quite a few televisions to watch while you enjoy your meal. And if your waiting for your Tee time to start or just finished, this is a great place to hang out, drink, and relax. My only complaint is that their mac salad tastes a little different than your traditional mac salad, its like they're using a different kind of mayonnaise or something?

I love Fatboys garlic chicken. One of the best on the island and One of my favorites ever; I wasn't going to leave a review anything less than stellar until I tasted this "fried rice." By far THE WORST FRIED RICE I HAVE EVER HAD. I am not sure if I just got a bad batch or what; but it is hands down the worst I have ever had. I looooove fried rice. It's almost my passion in life I get it every where I go and no one will ever compare to my Uncle's-but I like to compare everyone's to it. This rice tasted like steamed rice with plain soy sauce and diced carrots and an odd meat mixed in. It's terrible. It didn't taste "fried" at all and I will absolutely never order it or anything other than garlic chicken from here again-it's not worth the risk. The calamari is sub par. The garlic fries are fine. I am so severely thrown off by the fried rice I cannot even think of anything else lol.

Arrived a little early for lunch (11-ish) but having nothing to eat because of my mom having an early doctors appointment, we decided on breakfast. A spacious restaurant that has lots of windows with a good view of the golf course, large TVs for sports watching after your round, full bar, and an attractive menu. Mom always wanted to try a Loco Moco, which she thoroughly enjoyed, and while it being our first and only time there I thought I'd try something called the, Fried Rice Ali'i Plate. It's a breakfast behemoth based with tasty fried rice, covered with a homemade corned beef hash patty, topped with a scrambled egg, covered again with a hefty sized hamburger patty, topped off with a sunny-side up egg. (but in my case I opted for over easy) But here in is where my problem lies. The dish itself is quite visually appealing, yet daunting..... a towering ( it really is made into a tower) mass of meats eggs and rice. But the challenging part was how do I attack this monster? When I tried to cut it with my knife.... the ingredients in my tower were squishing out the sides.... in different directions. And as it's appearance "IS A TOWER" I'm thinking every forkful should have a little bit of everything on it, but no way was that gonna happen. Please don't get me wrong; each component by itself was really, really good! The homemade corned beef hash was awesome with super large chunks of corned beef. The hamburger too was a generous handmade patty, thick and juicy. And the fried rice was totally on point. It all sorta works, maybe just not by design. I see where this dish really can't be deconstructed because then all you'd really have is one plate with a hamburger loco-moco, and a corned beef hash loco-moco together sans the gravy all over. Maybe I should've gone with another entree.... that wasn't so....... high! Otherwise good food, attentive server deserves another visit 3.5 rounded out to a four!

Ate here about 3 times after golf at Ala Wai. They have a wide range of choices in the menu. I've had the garlic chicken, pastrami sandwich and lechon pork. All were good and plenty. They also have a bar where you can sit and have a beer. They also have TV with sports on and show the UH games.

Fat Boys have been running this concession for a year or so. Not to be confused with the previous concession. The food is good and there is a full bar. The service is excellent and there is Hawaiian music Thursday to Sunday. $40 to watch the Pacquiao fight including food and soda. Call for reservations!

5 Stars for what it is: 1) A place to grab a bite or a beer before of after golf, OR 2) A place to watch sports on big screen TVs (including maybe NFL Redzone?) in a friendly atmosphere with an affordable menu. My wife, Tomo, and I watched the World Cup Final here on 140713 and had a very nice time. Mahalo to our waiter Harry, and Good Luck to Fatboy's in this location.

OPEN DAILY 6a-9pm! DELICIOUS CHEAP EATS, FREE PARKING, and GOLF COURSE VIEWS on the 19th HOLE! You know how people go to Aiea Bowl just to eat the food or pick up dessert and don't even bowl? This is going to be the East side version of that...I'm going to be coming here to eat some awesome plate lunches on a regular basis without even golfing. AWESOMELY DELICIOUS AND CHEAP, this place gets an extra bonus star for accepting credit cards (above $5), and having games (albeit expensive ones) for the kids...and until they get their liquor license, it's BYOB. BREAKFAST from 6a-10:30am (don't forget to check out the $3 breakfast special from 6-8am: fried rice w/2 eggs, add on meat for $1) LUNCH from 10:30a-2pm $7 CHICKEN KATSU - sliced lean and fried crispy, the chicken was paired with a strong Worcestshire based katsu sauce. Recommend! yelp.com/biz_photos/V5hz… $7 LOCO MOCO Huge tasty handmade patty, perfect eggs, and a Teri based sauce = WINNER! My favorite thing here so far!! yelp.com/biz_photos/V5hz… $6 GARLIC CHICKEN Smaller portions than the above two entrees, this wasn't my favorite dish but after eating the above two dishes, it could have been just that I was just FULL. yelp.com/biz_photos/V5hz… $2 spam musubis Kids loved these, we got 4! Thick slices of spam and nothing else but rice! Yay! (the kids hate when there's other stuff like takuan or furikake) $1 games! I'm not sure who plays these games after they golf, but there were several games and a pool table and my kids had a blast. yelp.com/biz_photos/V5hz… yelp.com/biz_photos/V5hz… If you've never played @ Ala Wai, it's a municipal golf course so don't expect the Clubhouse at Kapalua. This used to be a little place to grab a snack after golf. It's still a little place but the food coming out packs a mean punch and I'll be back for the $4 breakfast special. If you're in the area or at the driving range, make a stop here at the 19th hole, the only one I was ever really good at!

The 19th hole for most golfers is the most enjoyable hole on the course! Ala Wai Cafe is the 19th hole filled with a few arcade games and dart board spread along the walls. The cafe although not very large it's a cool oasis after a round of golf or just a place to drop in to get a bite to eat. We came for brunch for a quick fix . I order the Loco Moco, good size portion with enough rice to fill you up. Although a little under seasoned it made my stomach happy. yelp.com/biz_photos/V5hz… The cafe doesn't have a large menu, but the specials posted looked very interesting and made me want to come back. Service 3.5 Stars Still BYOB

Ate here a few weeks back and this place was alright. I ate at the koko marina location before and always had good food. This place is in the ala wai golf course and it is more of a sit down restaurant but I do believe they do take out. I got the roast pork and as always it never fails. The pork is always moist and juicy and it comes with mushroom and onions on too with gravy. If I don't know what I want or can't decide this is always what I get. I also tried a few pieces of the garlic chicken and it was very tasty. My brother also got the adobo fried rice and it looked very big and very good. The only thing that wasn't too good was the service. They weren't open that long so maybe she was a new worker? But our service was kind of slow and being that the wasn't much people at the time we ate didn't help either. She should have been more quicker and attentive. Other then that I like the food here.

Good food, great prices, friendly & helpful staff...what an awesome combo! And to think, at a golf course? How can? But it is! You gotta come down to try. Pork chops are grand. The garlic chicken is winnahs. The teri beef is divine. Oh, before I forget, not only plate lunches, there's ahi salads for the health conscious and spam musubis for the on the go golfer (or an on the go luncher). Come n enjoy!

We came here after a good round of golf. When I play at a municipal course, I normally walk with a push cart to get exercise instead of riding in the golf cart.... As soon as we sat, it took a while before a server came over to help us (it was very slow--only one other party in the cafe), but once she did start serving us, service started picking up speed. The cafe's owner walked by us several times, gave us a few glances, but didn't feel like she should greet us or show us any customer service, and this was before we got any service. Couldn't she serve us since nobody else was? Bars should take customer service lessons from Home Bar--the Home Bar servers are fantastic! We sat near one of the TVs, but I guess they don't have any printed menus so we had to walk up to the board which on the far side by the kitchen with barely legible scrawl. Last thing I want to do after pushing a golf cart for 5 hours is to have to walk more. I want to sit my fat ass down and stay down. Standard bar food fare here. I had their poke and ordered their teriyaki new york strip steak... Their poke was good and so was the steak (for $8, I'm not expecting great quality cut on the steak)! My friend and I both agreed the teriyaki sauce was excellent. And when bar steak comes loaded with onions and mushrooms, there isn't much more you can ask for. All things considered, would I return here again? Yes, but only after golfing here: I doubt I would go out of my way to come here. The food is good and the service was OK. There are superior options within 10 minutes of driving... If i want a quick beer after golf, then I have no problem having a pitcher and eating here...

I am breathing. . . . because I want to make sure that I do not get too emotional on this one. Working with the Ala Wai Golf Course Cafe was a terrible experience. Our association decided to use them for the catering of our event. We ordered sandwiches (which I could have probably done myself for 1/2 the price. . . .nothing special), tea (all they did was give us one pot of water - they promised two - and tea bags. . . LIPTON of all things), coffee, and garlic soy beans. We should have asked for hot water and I could have supplied the tea. Our break was at 2:30 p.m. Nothing was coming up. The food we prepared was read. We took out an extra table anticipating the Cafe attendants coming up. At 2:40 I was asked to go down and check on them. They were coming up with the coffee, coffee cups, coffee condiments, and sandwiches. Ok. . . I guess. However, where was the rest of the stuff?? We noticed the workshop was almost over, so at 2:45, I went down and noticed they had JUST tossed the soybeans in and the attendant had just started the hot water. I went back up and told the coordinator that they had just started cooking and making water. Needless to say the coordinator was not happy, I went back down. Following me was my friend who told me, "Todd, she said if they are cooking it now cancel the soy beans." So, I channeled my white ancestors, went back in there and canceled the order. I told the girl cancel it now (and I said it pretty loud). I said to cancel it a number of times with my friend as witness. The guy in the kitchen . . . . started cooking faster (is that even possible)? I just keep saying, we've canceled and I told the attendant up front I wanted to speak to her manager immediately. She was trying to get her on the phone. Another girl came out and I told her, "Cancel the order!" To which the cooks were cooking faster (is that even possible . . . at least looking like they were doing something. . . not sure what to say)." Then we walked right out of the cafe. Please note: the two attendants (not the manager) were really good. They were trying to be as accommodating as possible. They were searching for the manager who was no where to be found. So, regardless of how many times I said the order was canceled, at 3:00 p.m. (WTH right?!) the manager had the audacity to walk up with the soybeans as if nothing had happened. I was thinking to myself, "This woman is crazy!" I looked right at her, still channeling my white ancestors, and said, "It's canceled!" She looked at me and asked, "So you don't want it." I looked at her and said, "Take it away!" The audacity of this woman! I was thinking to myself, "No remorse? Nothing? No apology while approaching me? Who does this woman think she is? Customer service means nothing to this woman!" Needless to say, I was furious and so was my friend. Sadly and/or fortunately, the coordinator had a soft spot. She went up to her and said, "50% off?" The manager agreed. She asked me where she should put it. I just told her to put it down and I would take care of it. I was shocked to learn that she took 50% off our entire bill versus 50% off just the soy beans. As a nice gesture as that was, I do not think we will ever go back to this place. I am going to encourage the coordinator to go somewhere else that knows how to respect and follow through with the contract created. By the way, the soy beans were nothing special. My cousin makes a better one.

KHON news had a feature of the Ala Wai Golf Course Cafe, so the cat's out of the bag.... This place is fabulous. What makes it even more fabulous, is that they still haven't gotten their liquor license so its BYOB until then. This was our little secret drinking-pupu spot in Waikiki with a great view of the golf course. It seems like the only people that knew about this little hide away, were golfers. The food here, is really decently priced. I honestly like the chicken gizzards $5, it was really crispy. The poke bowl is also a really good deal and tasty at $7 for a medium size and $9 for the large, your choice of spicy or limu. I would prefer to have my pieces of fish cut smaller. I know it's weird, but I like a good fish to sauce ratio. Some people cut their fish into huge chucks and I feel like fish is too big and the flavoring isn't enough. Not that big of a deal, but I figure throw it out there. I'm a noodle fan, so I liked their fried noodles as well (but don't take that into consideration when ordering, because it takes a lot for me to not like a noodle dish). So overall, YES YES YES! Come here and try their food, take in the great views and relax. They do have a jukebox so bring some cash to play some tunes and it also looks like they'll be setting up some karaoke (not sure, but I did see some microphones on the counter).

Very casual place, I would recommnd the ahi belly, good generous portion of deep fried goodness, didn't really care for their garlic chicken or kim chee fried rice, their hamburger steak was pretty good with a tasty gravy, another plus was their mac salad. Although I only gave it three stars, I would come back again, the parking is plentiful, and the place is off the beaten path, so easy to find a table.

Maybe I should have came for lunch. Maybe lunch is better. Who knows. I was not impressed with the $3 breakfast special, add $1 for meat. It was tiny...TINY!! I could eat 5 of these plates easy, plus my portuguese sausage was burnt on one side (don't think I didn't see it because it was flipped over lol). And all I got for the meat add on was three round pieces each the size of a quarter. Wow, epic fail!

The crazy thing about the Ala Wai Cafe, is that it was not what I was expecting. Especially from when Russ M. Was telling me about it, to the first time I came in, I was expecting something "classier" being that it was all on a course. For some reason I expected snooty waiters, and stuck up hostesses. Have you ever seen Ferris Bueller's Day-Off? I thought I was going to have to steal my best friend's dad's Ferrari, sing in a parade, catch a fly ball and most importantly, claim to be the 'Sausage King' of Chicago before I was ever going to be allowed in. Fortunately for me... I was way off, in a great way. I don't know why I pictured snooty, but what I got was down-to-Earth real folks happy to help you enjoy one of the best thing in life, food. I may have over thought the level of sophistication I needed to be, but they clearly understood what a normal person is looking for when it comes to good eats, quality for the quantity and affordable. The GOOD: The Loco Moco. Yeah, you can find one every where, but only seven bucks, this one beats the best of them. A perfectly cooked burger covered in a savory gravy over rice and under a fried egg - its so simple to love. The pork chops. Pupu style, three chops cut up for chop-enjoyment. Garlic Chicken, sweet and savory with just a little crunch. More GOOD: An amazing friendly staff that patiently helps you with anything you need. You ever been to a place, ask them what's good to eat and they stupidly say, "everything!" ... Well I HATE that. The staff at the Ala Wai Cafe though will tell you want they think. Everyone has favorites and I usually like to hear it from the folks that eat it the most - the workers. The staff was awesome in helping choose what I should order and were happy to tell me what was their favorite. The owner is also an amazing woman with a winning attitude. She wants nothing more but to make you satisfied with your time there, and is working hard to make the experience better, every time I go in. The BAD: Food-wise, everything is stellar. The only issues were my own personal preferences. I kind of felt that I wanted the Garlic Chicken I ordered to be "more crunchy" but I am pretty confident that the next time I go in there, all I have to ask is to make it more crunchy. In all honesty, I am also not a fan of the potato salad, but I have now just gone with getting a green salad with their tasty vinegar dressing. I know I have bitched about minuscule things at other places, what makes this place different is the amazing staff that won me over. Call me bias, but they have showed me that they want to do better and be the best, rather than other businesses that think Yelp is filled with entitled pricks who live falsely as critics. Even though I don't like something like the potato salad at the Ala Wai Cafe, they make me hope they succeed anyway and become an amazing location to frequent over and over. That's because of their humility, other places can learn from the Ala Wai Cafe. OVERALL: The best part of the entire Ala Wai Cafe experience is the price. With many of the dishes costing less than $7 or $8 you can't resist making this a common stop. The food taste better than most, and cost less than all and the amount of food you get will satisfy your hunger. Call me crazy, but that Loco Moco is really one of my favorites (Sorry Liliha Bakery). My next visit, I am dying to try the Ahi dishes. I've only seen them, but they look amazing, and also they have a super affordable breakfast for $3.99.... I'm looking forward to seeing what they have going on with that... OH! And don't forget the view. There is an amazing Mauka facing landscape. You can get lost in gazing towards Manoa and watching the rain showers form as you grub out on your next Loco Moco, like I do.
