    I dined here recently with my fiancée and another couple we are friends with for brunch. The Mill is further back from the hustle and bustle of Canton Street and offers ample parking. Since it was a nice cool day, we chose to eat outside on the patio. Unlike many restaurant patios with wobbly chairs and rusted out table, the Mill's patio is quite aesthetically pleasing, set back from the road with a rustic fireplace as a nice focal point. If you are going to have a patio, you might as well do it right, and the Mill does it right. The menu provides a satisfying mix of brunch options catering to those wanting breakfast or lunch. My "Blue Plate" consisted of crisp home fries, slightly runny over medium eggs, and savory caramelized sausage. However, the biscuit accompanying my nicely portioned plate was over-crumbly and dense. Even the lukewarm coffee I had didn't help. While the rest of my meal was genuinely satisfying, I was surprised the biscuit was so dry and doughy tasting instead of golden and buttery. My fiancée and her girlfriend enjoyed their crab benedicts, however weren't overly impressed with the overly tart lemon flavor in the hollandaise sauce. It seemed to overwhelm the nice mound of crab in the dish. Despite it not being what they expected, they enjoyed it. My buddy scarfed down his bourbon, which I guess it means he loved it. He really enjoyed the candied bacon that accompanied his dish. I think his biggest gripe was that you could drink before 12:30pm on Sunday, LOL! Overall, a great brunch place I hope to check out again.

    We dined here for lunch on Monday afternoon after discovering that many of the local restaurants were closed Mondays. My boyfriends Mom is the cutest and as soon as she thought he had his heart set on Fried Chicken she was set to find a Southern style eatery when most of his suggestions were closed. I think we were all slightly on the fence and didn't know exactly what to expect since it wasn't our first choice and we are all new to the neighborhood, but things were really nice. We were greeted and shown to a table with a pretty busy dining room. Makes sense, since most other places nearby are closed. My boyfriend had a Pimento cheese BLT, his Mom and I both had the Shrimp & Grits and his brother had the meatloaf. All of our entrees were tasty and filling. Their sweet tea was good and service was friendly. I'd definitely eat here again, just typing this review is making me want their Shrimp & Grits again! So good!

    We made reservations for 4 to celebrate our daughter-in-law's birthday. My son & daughter-in-law arrived first and he texted me to let me know our table was beside the bar. When we arrived 3 minutes later the waitress came to take our drink order. While she was getting them, my son informed us that she told them that there has been 3 chefs there in the past 2 weeks. Obviously one of them only lasted a week! However, that turned out to be the least of our problems. As far as the food was concerned I would have given a score of between 3 & 4 stars. Three of us ordered shrimp & grits from either having had it before or from recommendations. I found it to be VERY VERY heavy with andouille sausage (which I'm not a big fan of). But I ordered it in spite of seeing that it was part of the dish. After having had it, I would have called the dish sausage & grits. Very few shrimp in the dish at all. The others liked their shrimp & grits although one of them mentioned that there was a lot more sausage than he remembered. Now to the real problem of the evening. There was a group of obnoxious patrons seated behind us who had no regard for anyone in the restaurant except themselves. They were loud and boisterous. When the waitress described the specials for the day, I didn't hear one word she said. I told her that and she literally had to holler the specials. I further told her that we were having trouble hearing each other's conversation. As the evening went on, the table behind us got louder & louder. I finally got up and located the manager. When I told him our situation, I received a much less than enthusiastic apology and nothing more. When I returned to the table my son said that our waitress had said something to the offending table. That only made them worse. They glared at us as we left the restaurant. I am still angry that the waitress or manager didn't take measures to get us moved to another table or move that group to a more secluded area. Everyone has the right to enjoy a nice quiet meal and enjoy each other's conversation. We were denied that!! It will be a LONG TIME before we return to this establishment. Especially considering how much we paid for the experience!

    The Mill Kitchen and Bar is located on the Roswell Square and has one of the best patios in Roswell. We enjoyed our meal, but felt it was slightly more expensive than it was worth. Atmosphere: It's where southern meets modern in both the design of the restaurant and the food. The restaurant is nicely designed, comfortable, and seems to be a great place for groups. It was very quiet for brunch on the day we arrived. In fact, it was just us and one other table, but we were early. Service: Our server was great, knowledgeable, and helped with suggestions. Food: We had shrimp & grits, biscuits and gravy, and chicken & waffles. The shrimp & grits were fine but very soupy, the biscuits and gravy were better than most places, but the chicken & waffles were disappointing. The chicken was good but the waffle tasted like one of those waffles that you make yourself at a hotel that serves complimentary breakfast. Price: I've had better brunches in the area for honestly half the price, but I get that it's chef driven and they probably have higher operating costs than many places. Overall: I would like to go back for dinner sometime to give it another try. The atmosphere, service, and menu options are good. The food just needs to be a little better for the price.

    Pimento Fritters FTW, Gouda Grits! Beer flight with craft and local brews (up to 16 to choose from). Outdoor patio is awesome. Service was solid too, glass full, good recommendations and friendly. I wouldn't do the Caesar salad again just because it's plain and the rest of the menu was real solid. I will be checking back on this place for sure! Way underrated for such a good spot!

    Just arriving in the A my fiance cousin took us to this place The Mills that was recommended to her by her father. So we got there for lunch and it was the first meal of the day for me beside the fact I was on the plane for a few hours and my flight being delyaed. At this point my fiance and I were starving and ready to eat. When we get there the ambiance of the place was very modern and open. They have an outdoor seating area but it was too damn hot to sit out side. The lunch menu was short and simple not too many to choosein from but everything was a balance. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the drinks. Now time to the good part and the important part. The food the food was exceptionally delicious. I got the shrimp and grits which was very flavorful and we'll balance. Two things though 1. It needed a kick like a little pepper in the sauce. 2. The drink was a little weak. My fiance got the jalepeno burger and the lavender lemonade which was weak. It was pure lemonade barley any liquor. The jalepeno burger was cooked to her liking and she ate it all the dining room was quite and you know that's good. Overall I give them four stars but overall it was good.

    Great restaurant that I would absolutely recommend. Sunday brunch is awesome. Gouda grits are cheesy and yummy! They have daily specials too like french toasts that sound like dessert! Crisp bacon or big sausage to accompany your meal. Coffee is great. They have indoor quaint log cabin with a hint of sophistication feel to it or outside patio seating with a gigantic fireplace. Had an amazing bloody mary bar that I will have to try the next time as this was a work function. Farm to table menu. Reasonable prices 10$ to $14 for brunch items.

    Ultimately, what brought me to Mill Kitchen and Bar was a blind pick, shot in the dark random selection. I've driven through this chunk of Roswell enough times to know that there was probably a fairly decent selection of places to look for brunch on a Sunday morning. Picking Mill Kitchen and Bar turned out to be quite a doozy of a lucky guess. I was coming from Marietta, so it's a pretty easy drive down 120, and literally riding it until the point where it ends; almost. Because Mimosa Blvd. is pretty much the last street before 120 ends, and that's where Mill Kitchen and Bar is located. The exterior is what people would probably fling the term "rustic" around, but I felt this excited anticipation when I saw it at the kind of place to expect. Parking is free, and probably just enough of it in the attached parking lot for about as many heads as they could probably fit in the restaurant itself. There's plenty of street parking off of Mimosa as an alternative, and I do not recall seeing any meters; but being a part of Fulton County, I wouldn't put it past even downtown Roswell to have some ninja equivalents of Park Atlanta come and snipe parking tickets, so consider the street at your own risk, just in case there's something I missed. Just outside the front doors is a cozy looking patio, that if it weren't like 40F and overcast when I came by, I'd like to sit out on. Regardless of the weather, there's a fancy fireplace with benches in front of, that I'd love to sit in front of with a beverage in hand, and good company, but maybe in another visit. Upon entering, I was asked if I had made a reservation, which I hadn't, and for a moment, I panicked that my girlfriend and I suddenly wouldn't be allowed to dine without one, but thankfully, they seated us immediately, probably on account of the fact that we had strategically aimed to get there during the likely hours in which people would be at church. Service was fantastic. Our server was well-spoken, explained specials, and gave us the establishment's spiel about Mill utilizes local farms and small-box partners to supply them. A special of the day was beignets, and because I'd never had beignets in my life, I jumped at the opportunity to partake in them. As I said, I'd never had beignets in my life, so I have nothing to judge them again, whether or not they're "authentic" or if they were good or if they were bad. All I know is that I enjoyed them greatly, as they were hot, flaky, and the homemade jam that they provided was just the perfect consistency without being over tart, and worked fantastically with the pastry and powdered sugar. As for brunch, I ordered a blue plate. Which based on the general idea of blue plates, you kind of know what to expect, but my rationale was what better way to gauge their quality, than to get something that has a little bit of everything in it? Mill Kitchen's blue plate was probably the best quality blue plate that I've had in a very long time, and has probably ruined the height of the bar that future places' blue plates will be measured up against for a while. Seriously, over-medium eggs were perfectly over-medium. I was given three generously sized sausages, that were not overcooked into links of leather, and tasted great. The potato hash was literally perfectly cooked, where some chunks had a little crisp to them, while others were tender and almost like eating chunks of mashed potatoes; not to be dismissed were the grape tomatoes within the mix that were pretty much the tastiest tomatoes, like ever. And the buttermilk biscuit was pretty much perfect. Golden on the outside, and cloud fluffy on the inside, while going great with butter as well as the leftover jam from the beignets. Bottom line is that the location is quaint and convenient, the service was excellent, and the food was fantastic. Additionally, my knee-jerk reaction to receiving the check was erring on very satisfied. This is about an easy of a five-star as I can give, and I kind of don't want to play the guessing game the next time I'm pining for brunch and I'm up in that area, and just go back for what I know is good.

    Good food but almost didn't get to try it... I'm not sure if the hostess on Sunday morning was new or if this is restaurant policy, but when my wife and I arrived at about 11:30am without a reservation we were offered the choice of sitting at the bar or sitting outside in the heat. We had to specifically ask how long the wait would be for an indoor table. We were rather surprised at having to ask the question instead of it being offered. During our ten minute wait we saw a family and another couple offered the same bar-or-outdoors-heat choice, only they didn't think to ask about waiting and instead left. Food-wise, our meals were good. The chicken & waffles was nice, although I prefer criper waffles rather than soft. Sound level was a bit high, not any sound deadening in the bar area so when there's a loud party it can be difficult to hear your partner or the server.

    Wifey and I went to the Mill Kitchen for our anniversary dinner. After searching on Yelp, I picked this out as a place for us to try...and it was successful, for the most part! We had reservations for 5:00, but arrived a bit early. They seated us and offered us their "light" menu until 5:00...we wanted to try the Deviled Eggs as our appetizer anyway...so that worked out great. The Deviled Eggs are some of our favorites in the Atlanta area! These came with small pieces of candied bacon and a chive stem...but...the winner was the Deviled Egg itself...it had a TON of "eggy" flavor...the bacon/chive added a bit of sweet/tart...but...the egg was the winner! We then shared a Watermelon/Beet salad...another winner. This was an interesting combination and a "stretch" for wifey...she is not a big beet person...so...kudos to her for stretching! We really liked this salad...so...the total salad is watermelon, beets, goat cheese and arugula with a honey-chive vinaigrette. In eating this salad, you taste the watermelon first...then the goat cheese, followed by the arugula. The beets do not come through too strong, but more as a background earthiness. And the vinaigrette? Well, to be honest, I had to look up what it was, as I not remember tasting it at all! But...that is ok...a very good salad! For our entrée, we selected the Country Fried Steak. While this entrée was well cooked and tender, it lacked seasoning (thus the reason for 4 stars). Both wifey and I had to add a good bit of salt/pepper to "up" the flavor profile. We also asked for more of the gravy on the side, as it was quite minimal on the plate. The accompanying potatoes were also a bit on the bland side...KITCHEN-SALT AND PEPPER ARE OK TO USE! The accompanying green beans and arugula/parmesan salad were both pretty good. Service was outstanding...I know on other reviews it has been spotty...but...for us, it was quite good. Bottom line...we will return...and will try a few other items on the menu BTW...with this meal, it was also a quite affordable place...not cheap, but not outlandish either...

    I had the fried chicken, greens, and mac and cheese briefly in front of me before I bit into the bird and lost consciousness. Delicious is an understatement where the chicken is concerned. The service was friendly and efficient, and hardly anyone was there for an early Sunday dinner. I want to go back for brunch...and dinner again. The restaurant was great for a group.

    Always consistently fresh and delicious! I love that they use ingredients from local farms (organic when possible). The portions are fairly large. The local beer selection is great as well. There is parking available. Great spot!

    We had driven past Mill Kitchen and Bar many times always thinking it looked like our kind of restaurant. Finally, we remembered when we were making lunch plans, and decided to try it out. The atmosphere did not disappoint. We would have sat outside by the fireplace had it not been so cold outside at the time. Inside, the space was filled with wood floors and decor, and the room we were sat in had three walls of huge windows. It was like you were in a large, special sun room. We were sat immediately and greeted by our server. Bottomless mimosas for only $10.00?! YES PLEASE! And she let us get the champagne separate from the OJ so we could make our own mix...very little OJ... They also had a Bloody Mary Bar which looked amazing! They also brought you only vodka to the table so you could really make your Bloody exactly how you wanted it. (Some places bring the vodka and base mix together, which eliminates personalizing the Bloody.) I ordered the chicken and waffles, he ordered the SOS, and we split the Gouda Grits. Those Gouda Grits were freaking delicious! Just the right consistency and flavor. We quite enjoyed them. My guy said he really liked the SOS as well. It had a lot to it, so he was quite stuffed by the end. I tasted this dish, and it was not my style.... but to each their own! The chicken and waffles were, eh, okay. The chicken breasts were the best part, and after adding some salt, I did enjoy them. I will say they were slightly over cooked, the second one I ate being a little tougher to cut and chew as it had a tendon or something running through it. The batter/fried outside had a great texture to it, staying nice and crispy. It really did need more salt, though. Now on to the waffles that came with the C&W: way, way too dense! It was like I was eating a very heavy, dense cake. It was actually hard to cut with a fork. I had to use my knife to make it more manageable. I don't know about you, but I like light, fluffy waffles... The syrup that came with them was not my style. It was more like a molasses, and it was not advertised that way. Outside of the food and overall decor, I love how they showcased all of their local partners around Georgia that they sourced their food and drinks from. I think it is great they are helping support other local businesses. Definitely keep in mind if you are planning to go for lunch on Sunday, they will not have their lunch menu available until after 3:00pm. They only serve Brunch until this time, which means no sandwiches...and that's why we originally went there was to get sandwiches off their lunch menu. Overall the experience was fine. Outside of the decor, Gouda Grits and cheap mimosas, everything was just "OK." Service was good, nothing spectacular, but we did not wait too long once our drinks were empty...but they did get empty before being refilled a few times. I am sure we will try Mill Kitchen again, at least for drinks if not more. Their Eggs Benedict did look DELICIOUS! I may have to stop by just for that..... ;)

    The Mill has the makings of a really good restaurant, but it falls short where it matters the most...the food. We stopped by early afternoon on a Sunday as the brunch crowd was in full swing. It was a great day, and the outdoor patio was full with satisfied looking people enjoying their mimosas. Overall, the ambiance of The Mill is very nice, inside and out. We didn't partake, but the bloody mary bar looked good. I like the brunch menu...there are plenty of stand-bys to choose from, like biscuits, waffles, salads,etc. Among us we had the chicken-fried steak and eggs, a cobb salad among other items. Personally, I've had a better chicken-fried steak at Cracker Barrel and the reason is a simple one...seasoning. The steak I got at The Mill was a thick cut and had not been tenderized one bit. It was a better cut (for chicken fried steak) instead of cube steak, thought it wasn't executed well...tough and not a hint of seasoning. The cobb salad was a bit of a mess. It was like they started making a cobb, then took a left turn and doused it with balsamic dressing. I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen with this one. At any rate, I think The Mill is worth another shot, probably not for brunch though.

    Went here for Sunday brunch. We were a party of seven and told that they could not accommodate us. As we walked out the door a table opened up. Table would have been better for five but we were hungry and made do. The table had pimento cheese fritters and deviled eggs as appetizers. They were very good. Everyone had egg brunch items and all enjoyed. Very good place for brunch. The patio area looked nice and could be enjoyed once fall arrives

    I have to give the restaurant and food a single star. Their menu made everything sound delicious and even the pimiento cheese fritters that my wife and I got as an appetizer were quite tasty. However, the shrimp and grits were terrible; the "poached" eggs came out with solid yolks and tastes solely of vinegar while the shrimp were overcooked and lacked any seasoning at all. The French toast was merely ok--again lacking any real flavor. The one bright spot was our server, Natalie. She was excellent at her job, checked on us frequently, and quickly got us a meal replacement when we told her out complaints about the shrimp and grits. If you do venture out to try this place, ask to sit with her.

    The owner or manager could have used this weekend as an opportunity to completely knock the socks off of new patrons that would be stopping by after being at the Roswell Arts festival, which was literally just across the street from The Mill. Not good planning to book a baby shower on the outside terrace the day of the festival. The service today was very poor. Our first time in, we really were hoping for something terrific, but there were inadequate #'s of staff people working to cater to the crowds. Very poor coordination between kitchen, servers, waitstaff, and hostess station. Food only mediocre, frenchfries served cold. Overall not a great experience. And way too expensive. This establishment has had more than an adequate amount of time to get coordinated, but it has failed in our opinion. We were wondering why they don't hire a coordinator/expediter to pull this staff together. They just need some direction! Plenty of potential here, but someone is obviously not caring enough to get this team together! .......My uncle's funeral was a much better experience! Go back to the funeral business!

    We went waited over 20 minutes no drink no nothing at all and we left well that's nice guys.... Won't be back. Judging by the other reviews were are not alone in this and there seems to be huge service issues and servers who never show or flake out. Before we left, asked for the manager and just stated bluntly "We came to eat, not to waste the time and regret". They then offered to take our order, stated-honestly no, we are pissed off and would not want to eat here when there are a ton of other places nearby that won't give you a bad atmosphere around a meal. Asked for the owner, told won't be in for a week; but after seeing these reviews I am not surprised. Congrats - you lost out on $85 plus a 25% tip and repeat business as well as this to match the other reviews. Now multiple that by others who had the same experience but didn't go to yelp and you might not like the picture.

    Came here for a late dinner and...it was just OK. Don't get me wrong, I love the design and decor of new american restaurants. It is literally my fave. But I got the vegetable plate and it just didn't wow me. We actually had an appetizer that people were unimpressed with and didn't want to finish!! For a restaurant at this price point I really would expect more. That being said, one of the couples we came here with said that this place has excellent brunch so I will plan to come back for brunch and update my review!

    Wow! What a great thing being positively surprised on a 'lets grab a bite' dinner night. Passed by this place so many times on my usual eat out way towards Canton Rd, that I could never realize there was still room in my heart (belly) for another favorite. The environment is quite inviting, with beautiful dark wood furniture and a nice setting of dining and bar in different rooms, with an open kitchen (I'm the kind of guy that welcomes transparency when the subject is food and relationships) in the middle. Food started to hook me when a list of local suppliers, from farms to ice cream and breweries, is proudly displayed. Supporting small business that favor quality over quantity is definitely a plus that can be easily perceived when food is served. Secondly, it hooked me by revitalizing the south dishes into elaborated yet true to its roots creations. Scallops with crisp pork belly were nothing short of amazing, with the pea soup doing a nice opening and caramelized banana ice cream closing it. Five stars are not out of my yelping too easy, but this one came close except for the service- which was good and attentive- but not as diligent as a five star worthy one. Definitely a new bookmark, definitely a new dukedom on the horizon!

    Dinner with the family here was a nice change instead of our usual go-to places. It's southern food with a modern/upscale attitude, and the dishes proved that. Our table ordered the amber-jack, fried chicken, country fried veal steak, pasta, veggie plate, and the burger. I tasted everyone's dish to get my own opinion since I am the one writing the review here. My amber-jack was alright, just a smidge over-done, but it tasted alright and I was impressed with the plating. The veal again, just alright, nice flavor but not amazing, I did like the fried chicken. It had a very tasty breading and nice crisp to it, and the macaroni it came with was quite tasty. The pasta was good, but nothing incredible, and the veggie plate was good aside from the tomato/cucumber salad-it was a little too acidic. The strengths I saw in all of the dishes was nice plating, and then they all were good, but not great with the taste. We also tried the pimento fritters and calamari for appetizers, and we all enjoyed them both. For dessert we got almost everything they offer. The strawberry shortcake, chocolate mousse, fruit crumble, and carrot cake, as well as some ice cream and the cookie sandwich. I like the carrot cake and the "shortcake" which was actually like a pound-cake, still good though. The cookie was really yummy, had a home made taste to it, and the ice cream was also really good. So appetizers and desserts were a win, but the entrees while visually appealing, could have all improved a little bit with flavor, except for the fried chicken. That was good. For the price, like I said, a little more flavor in the entrees, but other than that, I would give this place another shot and try something else.

    We went here for brunch. Their bottomless mimosa option is a steal at $10. The problem is, our waitress was super attentive in the beginning and kind of drifted away after we ordered our food. It took a while for the water glass to be filled up and for the mimosas to come out every time. Food was great. I ordered the lox/crostini which had slices of smoked salmon, crostinis smothered with cream cheese and dill, capers, onions, and a boiled egg. It was spread out beautifully and assembled so that I could build my own crostini with salmon. The waldorf salad was HUGE. I had a bit of the salad and it was definitely flavorful---maybe ask the dressing on the side b/c they drench the heck out of the salad. I also ordered 2 biscuits with jam/butter. No thanks on the butter, but the jam was delightful! I think they make it homemade (don't quote me on it) b/c it had the texture of a homemade jam...slightly runny, super berry-ful. Scenery was beautiful! Perfect patio dining on a pretty day. It's conveniently across from a mini park so we got to people watch, which is always fun and entertaining. Main point? waitress could be more attentive, selection could cater more towards vegetarians (it's pretty limited), but bottomless mimosas for $10 = SOLD.

    Went for a nice lunch on Sunday afternoon. We were sat immediately. Cute place - still looks like the other restaurants that were here before, totally cute. Service was a nightmare. Waited 10 minutes to be greeted by the server. Then we place our appetizer order and food order with our drink order. 5 minutes later he came to tell us they were out of the appetizer. After 20 minutes of waiting for our food (a burger and salad), we stopped him to say of our food couldn't be delivered in the next 5 minutes to cancel it. 5 minutes later my husband's burger showed up with cold fries. 5 more minutes later, my salad came. Ice cild chicken a top plain lettuce. Boring food, slow unattentive service. Won't return.

    Went here before a massive karaoke outing, and was it ever fabulous. I thought it might suck because we were practically the only people in the place, but once I tasted the food, I knew I was wrong. We started off with fried pimento cheese. It was delightful paired with their cheapest Sauvignon Blanc. I don't do the whole meat-eating thing, so when I heard that risotto was a side with their special of the day, I inquired about having that as an entree. They graciously obliged, and I cannot express how great it was. The flavor was amazing, and the texture was perfect. I will definitely be back.

    I am amazed at the epic failure of this restaurant tonight - New Year's Eve. This review is not about the food - which we have had before and is decent if not terribly memorable, with a nice wine list. This review is about the service and the communication. We received an email from The Mill a month ago advertising their price fixe menu for $75 per person, along with champagne and dancing to ring in the New Year. We live around the corner and thought that sounded very pleasant. We called to reserve a table that day for the 9 pm seating even though they had not finalized their menu. They booked our table and took my husband's credit card. When we showed up tonight, neither the parking lot nor the restaurant were full - but they were definitely busy, and the three people at the hostess counter (including a gentleman who appeared to be the manager) seemed very stressed. They showed us to our table right away with a flourish. Except our table was at the bar. It was tiny and literally one foot away from the people loudly drinking at the bar. We politely asked to be seated in the restaurant. We certainly aren't too proud to sit at the bar and eat if a restaurant wait is long. But restaurants ask us if we are willing to do so. And they certainly don't default to seating us there for a special price fixe meal. The hostess asked us to wait while she checked to see what else there was. She did not return so we walked away and met her and the manager at the host station. We explained to them that this was not acceptable and the manager said the bar was the only two tops they had in the entire restaurant and therefore that is all he could do. We said then we would need to go. And he said okay. It was all very polite and no one got angry or pushy but we know this was absolutely inappropriate on a number of levels: 1. It isn't even approaching standard. 2. We were planning on spending a minimum of $150 and probably more. 3. No one communicated in advance that this unusual arrangement was the plan when we booked our reservation which would certainly have been a minimum requirement. 4. The restaurant want even full. We will certainly not be back. There is no compelling reason and it is obvious our business is not that important to them.

    Nom nom nom. This was the former location of Relish which was one of my favorite restaurants. A little piece of my soul died when it closed. I could not be happier to have this space revitalized. We had a family dinner here over the weekend. The calamari appetizer was delicious. The breading was light and crispy and there was a noticeable lack of the little, curly tentacle pieces which made everyone very happy. For the entrees, there was fried chicken all around, with the exception of one steak from a non-conformer. Everyone loved their entrees. The portions were huge. I had the brussel sprouts as a side and they were crispy and sweet, served with a balasmic glaze. I think they were my favorite thing of the whole evening. For dessert, we had the apple dumplings. It was a little lackluster in comparison to the rest of the meal as it was just apples in a wanton wrapper and fried. It was okay but just didn't quite measure up to everything else. Service was exceptional. We went early but by the time we left there was a large crowd waiting outside so I would recommend reservations for the weekend. Bonus- this is pretty much the only restaurant in downtown Roswell that has it's own private parking lot so you don't have to circle the square ten times before finally giving up and going to the pay lot.

    We came at just the right time to immediately get seated at a 4-top table. Service started out kind of slow, but it was very busy. The room was also incredibly loud...to the point of making conversation across our table difficult. Coupled with the drunk chick whose chair back kept encroaching into my space the farther I scooted away from her, it was almost middle school cafeteria-like in ambiance. That said, once service got rolling, it remained efficient and friendly throughout our stay. Fresh flatware, napkins, and plates appeared regularly and our server had a ready and contagious smile. I had the Georgia shrimp and grits, minus the Vidalia onion, because I am allergic to onions. It's a very small portion for $18 and would have been less than what I consider to be an entree-sized portion, had we not had several appetizers. But however diminutive the portion, what was in the bowl was incredibly delicious. The Gouda grits were creamy and hot, there was a lot of sausage and tasso, and the blistered cherry (or grape--I think the difference is purely semantics) tomatoes lent a nice sweetness. That low country sauce was more like gravy and I could have eaten a quart of it like soup, it was so tasty. My lady had the sea scallops, which consisted of four very large--maybe 2.5" in diameter and 1.5" thick--scallops on a bed of Carolina gold rice cooked "risotto"style with fresh spring peas and lemon butter. She couldn't eat it all, so I was able to snag a scallop and some rice. The scallop had a nice sear, but could have used some additional time in the heat...it was a bit undone (for my preference)in the middle, although it was very tender and had great flavor. Did I mention that the scallops are huge? Seriously. The rice was nice, too. One kiddo had the shrimp and grits, the other had the braised boneless short rib. I had several bites, which were fall-off-the-(nonexistent)-bone tender and packed with the kind of umami sensations that are best produced by long and slow cooking and the inclusion of complementary spices. It was like my momma's best roasts, but in a different way. The pile of carrots alongside the rib had the greens still attached and were several different colors, drizzled with Tupelo honey. A side of greens (turnip? mustard? collard? I dunno) were too sweet for me to appreciate. I grew up in the south eating southern food, but it wasn't in Georgia. Where I come from, we don't dump sugar into every damned thing that we eat. Adulterating greens with sugar is silly. We ordered sides of mac-n-cheese (delicious!) and smoked Gouda au gratin potatoes. The nicely baked pucks of spuds arrived in small cast iron pans and were incredibly creamy, cheesy, and cooked just to the right 'doneness'. I had the Heywood Provisions andouille in the grits and in the Pigs in a Blanket appetizer. It wasn't like any andouille that I've ever had, being fattier, less dense, and spiced differently...more like regular smoked sausage. But it was probably the best smoked sausage that I've ever had, with layers of flavor and a great smoky flavor. I'd like to find some for cooking at home. The wine list is modest. Ignore the beer list and just ask what is on tap. Seriously. Not a single thing that I asked for on the beer list was available, so shortcut the nonsense and just ask your server. I had several different IPAs that I had never tried and they were all delicious...I would have not discovered them had I not asked. To sum up, The Mill is a solid four stars, maybe four and a half. For two adults and two early teens, our tab--including tip--was over $330. That sum included quite a bit of adult beverages, but still...some noise abatement devices would mitigate the roar of the diners. Repeating "Huh?" and "What?!" hundreds of times during dinner when you're only 2-3 feet away from your interlocutor is ludicrous, outside of a middle- or high-school cafeteria.

    Two ladies on my arm last night - wifey and mom. Twenty-five degrees outside, cozy and rustic luxury inside. Started with Carrit and Beet salad and the Pear salad. Fresh, crisp, bursting with flavor. Entrees....pecan-crusted trout, veal and venison meatloaf, and a garden veg plate. All outstanding! Finished with the special dessert, cheddar apple pie (amazing flaky cheddar crust) and a pumpkin pie cake (delicious, really sweet). Matt (shaved head, not Twilight) was great. Very informative, very attentive, very patient :-)

    Poor experience at brunch there. The entire menu seems to be made for college kids after a night of drinking. Not refined at all even though the intention is good. The Monte Cristo is awful. Period. Wrote the place to let them know, but they did not seem interested in responding.

    Ate here for lunch and I have to admit the smells emanating from the kitchen were incredible. The Rueben sandwich I had was average and nothing memorable. It wasn't bad it was just average. Sitting outside on the patio was the best part of the meal. Although the service was very good as well. Nothing really wrong with this place except I feel it is just average and with so many really cool spots in this part of Roswell to try I might not be back to The Mill for a while.

    Okay, so to be honest, I've never actually been to the Mill (it's not that close to my home), but we get it catered for work all the time (especially breakfast). I am absolutely addicted to the gouda grits! We had the grits for a whole week straight one time and now I'm sad that I haven't had any in a month or two. I hope soon I can come to the actual restaurant to order the grits!

    One star is over rated. Great atmosphere and that's about all this place offers. Spend your money in other places.. Worst service I have ever experienced. I think they train their servers not to make eye contact and ignore customers. So disappointed.

    Made reservation and requested "patio seating for birthday dinner for 4". Upon arriving, was seated inside hostess said "they do not honor reservations for patio". Strange, there were actually open tables on patio- hostess wanted to argue- so we sat inside (strike 1). Then 10 min later the waiter finally made an appearance (strike 2). Drink had a bug floating in it and the dinner order was incorrect and slow arriving (strike 3). Total time lost at this restaurant, 90 minutes. Won't be spending any more of my money or time at this place.

    When we do birthdays we go big. There is always a big crowd and it's always hard finding a place big enough that doesn't charge a minimum or require one check for the entire table. After trying several restaurants in downtown Roswell, The Mill finally fit the bill. The restaurant is beautiful. They have a large bar area as well as private dinning rooms. They gave us the two long tables in the bar area. When part of our party cancelled, they were flexible and paired down the tables to fit us all at one. Service was quick (for a party of 30) and our waiter even took the time to tell us about the ghost stories that go along with a restaurant in a space that used to be a morgue. The food was delicious and everyone raved about their plates. I had the braised short rib. The meat was tender and fell apart. The squash and potato gratin with honeyed carrots gave it a bit of sweetness that went perfectly with the ribs. I'm excited to go back on a Sunday to try their brunch menu and imbibe in their $10 bottomless mimosas.

    I stopped in just to check out the place so I sat at the bar to see what they had as far as beer selections on draft. I was pleased to see they had a good choice of options for us craft beer fans. The first thing jumping out at me at first sight of their menu was their prices. Wow! Ok now I know, so I figured no worries, I'll just order a appetizer to go with my two beers which was ok but overpriced and smaller what you get as other places. Then comes the bill....What?!!! $8 for a pint! I could get the same beer for $5.50 up the road! Ok I get it, this is a fancy place so get ready to pay fancy bills. Other than that it's nice but too expensive.

    Went on a date there last night and had a wonderful time. The seared scallops with crispy porkbelly were amazing as well as the shrimp and grits. Definitely a different take on that dish with the andouille sausage flavor. Cocktails were great and the staff very attentive. Nice decor and the exec chef came to every table and made sure the dishes were to satisfaction. If I lived here I'd be a regular.

    I went there with my family, my husband had the burger, my kids had the shrimp and grits and fried chicken and I had the vegetable dish. I must say that everyone finished ALL of their food without a crumb to spare! Everything was fresh, well seasoned and prepared perfectly! They also had the calamari appetizer and it was great as well. My husband had beer and our bill came out to roughly $90, not bad for a nice dinner for a family of 4! What's even more impressive is that this restaurant is a farm to table so they source meats, produce and cheeses locally a much as possible! We'll be back and I highly recommend it!

    The bar is really nice, with a decent jazz soundtrack playing in the background. However...when I was in the bar a few nights ago, the service was atrocious. There were two or three bartenders, and one of them complained constantly about his job, and saying he couldn't wait to get out there that night. That doesn't exactly make you feel great about handing over your hard-earned cash for a drink. One of the bartenders took my order for a glass of sparkling rose. She presented me with a full glass, said it was the bottom of the bottle, had been sitting for quite awhile, so she just dumped it all in the glass. It was completely flat - what the hell? If i want a glass of regular rose, I'll order one. The night was really kind of ruined for us by the grumpy, clueless bartenders. Not sure I'll go there again, or recommend it to my friends. I live in Roswell, and enjoy going to all the other bars and restaurants who are actually welcoming to their guests. The food's decent, but not worth that kind of service.

    Finally got a babysitter and headed to the Mill for dinner. I had pretty high hopes, but it was very average, maybe a little below average. I am a big deviled eggs fan, and had some excellent ones at Smokebelly in Buckhead earlier in the day, but these lacked any taste or bite, and they must have been in the cooler for a long time because the egg whites were very rubbery and the bacon had no flavor. The stuffed eggrolls were ok, but lacking in sauce so they were pretty dry. My wife had the pecan trout which tasted good, flaky and cooked just right. The grouper on the other hand tasted baked rather than pan seared, and barely had any brown on it at all. Was very disappointed. The side of cucumbers and tomatoes had so much vinegar that they were sour, and totally lacked any salt or any other seasoning that could be tasted since the vinegar overwhelmed it all. Overall, spent more than $100 for a very mediocre meal, would not be back.

    Great place, great atmosphere, great service! We ate @ bar to avoid waiting, food was good, even if temp was slightly glitchy on a couple of dishes - still totally yummy! Bartenders are AWESOME (props to Kevin, he and the owner made sure we left happy!) Deviled eggs & chicharrónes are no-brainers!

    I am SHOCKED to read negative reviews of this restaurant! But, sometimes there are folks that will just never be satisfied. That must be the case when it comes to The Mill... We happened into this wonderful place last Saturday afternoon. We live in Sandy Springs but found ourselves in Roswell Square and looking for an afternoon lunch. My husband looked at the sign for The Mill as we passed and asked my opinion. I said sure, he is always more adventurous than me. :) We were sat very timely into a nice corner booth seat. A server approached us soon after and presented us with menus, drink menu, and a knowledge of all of the above. Our server was Ty, he is amazing. Always there for what you need, but not too overbearing if you know what I mean. The menu was so amazing, all farm to table food. I started off with a Bloody Mary, which I had 2 of. They are so good here! I ordered the shrimp and grits. (and here is my favorite part!). Ty said that the chef said that the shrimp had not come in that day. They use everything local, so they couldn't get local shrimp that day. I soooo appreciated that. I am so into doing the local thing. I ordered something else, and about ten minutes later Ty came back and said the chef just arrived with the local shrimp....yeah! I really appreciated that..I am picky about my shrimp..must be local, none of that Malaysian farm crap. We had a fabulous meal that day, so much that we came back the next day! Sunday..the Bloodys were a little cheaper and they also offered bottomless Mimosas. We are in! Also we brought our daughter this time and found out they have free meals for kids! WHAT!? I am soooo in love with this place and cant wait to get back... Oh yeah and the brunch has amazing food too...check it out!

    I dined here with some friends this past weekend, and everything was amazing. I had the pimento cheese fritters which were a piece of heaven. We came with the intention to try the new menu, so we also sampled the new flatbread (now with duck) and the pork belly which was delicious. Entrees were even better, we had the ravioli, trout, bouillabaisse and the steak. All were cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. We also decided to share some desserts, the pumpkin pie and chess pie should not be missed! So so good that I could eat them everyday! Do try the lavender lemonade and spiked apple cider, really good cocktails. Overall the service was excellent and I think this is the best menu the chefs have created since they first opened. I will be back!!!!!!!!!

    We had the most disappointing dining experience this evening. The fried chicken had come highly recommended, but our undercooked and bloodied bird was less than edible. When we spoke with our less than amicable server about the issue, he blamed the color and texture on the chicken's free range nature. What?!? Then the chef came out and gave us the same speech without taking responsibility for undercooking our dinner. Let's call a spade a spade, people. The Mill only serves up terrible service and food that I will likely get ill from.

    Great little spot in historic Roswell with nice outdoor patio seating and live music. Service was good & facility was warm and welcoming. Food was ok but nothing that made me scream "I have to come back". The "crowd" seemed a bit snooty.

    The reinvention disappoints. After going through two remodels I really can't tell what they changed from previous incarnation as The Relish. The food is more of a political statement than a culinary attraction. Most of their energy is spent on congratulating themselves on the use of local produce and carbon footprint than on what happens in the kitchen. The food wasn't bad, but neither was it memorable and the price feels like a contribution to an ecological charity as it certainly didn't justify the mediocre food. But maybe our experience was tainted by the unfriendly and inattentive waitress. Our maybe this is really a bar in disguise and the food is an afterthought to the alcohol -- there was more variety in the libations than the entrees. It's such a great location and I came out of curiosity after the prior failed venture into upscale Mexican. But it looks like they still haven't "found themselves" and I miss The Relish.

Things were a lot better this time around - better service, etc. Ironically, they had even more customers that evening due to a private party on the patio. Maybe we just caught them on an off night the previous week.

    Worst service I've ever seen. Took 10 minutes to get a drink at the bar...with no one else in front of me. First they forgot my order....then they said they were waiting on frosted glasses for my beer. Unfortunately this was the best service of the night! They did seat us fairly quickly....but when our waitress finally came around to take our order....that was the last we saw of her until we asked for the check. I had to wave down (yes I literally waved down) servers to get us water...and then salt/pepper (which we needed because everything was so bland). Our table had four entrees...2 were cold. I would have sent them back but never my server was no where to be found. My wife had the special - Chicken dish of some kind. Believe me when I say there was nothing special about this dish. Bland sauce on over-done chicken. Just so you know I'm not a bitter troll....one person had the fried chicken and they were very happy with it.....however....they didnt like the mac-n-cheese (tasted like it was out of a box...and it was cold)....the other side was cooked greens and they were so salty he couldnt eat them. I almost forgot...to be fair, I did have the chili appetizer and it was very good. However, not enough to save an otherwise terrible dining experience.

    Saturday nights find my lady and I venturing out to brave the world and find new eats along the way. Between the two of us we couldn't decide where we were going before heading out to hear some music at our favorite Marietta dive bar and chose to wing it. Maybe it's the location or maybe I have always been en route to someplace else, but having passed The Mill Kitchen and Bar on almost a daily basis, I had never once considered going in. We always take a gamble when placing our taste buds on the table, luckily, this gamble paid off! Upon entering the cozy restaurant we were greeting by a friendly hostess and the busy sights and delicious smells of an open kitchen; there's nothing more reassuring than personally seeing how clean and organized the place that's preparing your food is.... Also, things tastes better when the kitchen staff knows they can be seen cooking! We were immediately seated at a high-top in the bar area where a two piece band was tucked into the corner behind the elegantly appointed, well lit bar, lightly strumming jazz standards. Our friendly and knowledgeable server, Pat, was to our table promptly arranging place settings, handing out drink and food menus and going over the nightly special. Their wine selection is quite extensive but not overwhelming and their beer selection includes local brewers Monday Night, Red Hare, Terrapin and Sweetwater. Both my lady and I love quality craft beer so to have three varied selections from four reputable AND local breweries was a quite pleasant surprise. We began with two Monday Night Eye Patch IPA's and the Crab Fritters made with blue crab, mascarpone, tarragon and lemon. Within, what seemed minutes, three golden-brown, golf ball sized fritters plated atop a celery root coleslaw were delivered to our table. The presentation was nice, but upon cutting into and taking the first bite, my suspicions were confirmed: Crispy golden crust with an ice cold center. Fail #1 Not wanting to poison ourselves with uncooked seafood from unknown origins, we sent them back for fresh, HOT, order of fritters. Immediately after sending back the first plate, the GM came to our table apologizing for the inconvenience and offered to comp the appetizer from our bill. Fail recovery! When our second order of fritters arrived, our server Pat asked to take our order, which we declined, wanting to insure that the kitchen could execute a simple appetizer. We were pleased to find that not only were the fritters hot and fresh but exceptionally tasty! With our confidence in the kitchen restored, we felt safe ordering dinner. My lady went with the shrimp and grits and and a glass of Leese Fitch Savignon Blanc. I chose the stuffed quail with spinach greens and roasted gold beets with a glass of Zagen Fire Red. Both entrees were expertly prepared and were delightfully complimented by our wine selections. After the bulk of the dinner service was served, the Chef made dinning room rounds approaching each table to insure that they were having a good experience. A nice touch if one is simply putting on airs, but a testament to the Chefs confidence in his kitchen and menu when done with purpose! We have been back on other occasions, mostly for drinks and apps and have recommended The Mill to others. Cheers!

    There are a grand total of zero opinions on restaurants I trust less than Jenny Turknett of the AJC. So when she gave them a one-star (strangely attached to a somewhat positive review), I was unfazed. Her rare praise is reserved for decent restaurants, yet she seems to derive masochistic elation from excoriating quality establishments. But her reporting that star chef Marc Taft already divorced this joint about a month into their relationship did raise an eyebrow. It should have raised two. I very much enjoyed my first trip, though newbie malfunctions were noticeable. But Turknett's clockwork contrarian, schleprock reviews did finally supply that useful intel that should have been heeded. Yes, I know better than to eat out on Mother's Day, NYE, and Valentine's Day. But I also suck it up, am very reasonable and expect glitches. But nothing like this. But I do have to be fair and state this unmitigated disaster did happen on Mother's Day. The Mill food was cold. Not lukewarm, but flat out cold. They ran out of advertised roast beef carving station. So for the first time in literally a couple thousand meals, I had to complain. But I was not the only one. Bottom line is food was comped, so it only cost me a tip. But... Grapevine sources said there are conflicting stories on whether food suppliers and rest of kitchen personnel had taken a hit with the quick exit of their prodigy employee. I would guess the suppliers had not changed much, as food quality was still good, but prepared by a couple of 16-year-old Home Economics flunkies. Even the potentially good bacon was mass-produced, rushed and not crisp whatsoever. After several complaints from other tables, some new food was brought out. Hash brown casserole, which could have been great, was at least warm. I said, "warm," not hot. Shoot, I will even admit--must be fair--I was half tempted to ask for some of it to go so I could heat it up myself at home. So. Almost. Good. Relish, at the same locale, similar concept, broke my dining heart. I fell in love at first bite, yet got cheated on my behind my back and they got worse each visit before bride and I swore completely off of them. I'm not superstitious--well not until now. My advice is never, ever to serve dead meat in the same place where dead people were laid to rest. If this site is not "jinxed" there is no such thing. I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do believe in spooks. I tasted the potential at the Mill, but they went down the shitter quicker than Franco's Italian Tavern and Relish combined. Without Taft, you get the shaft. Let the death watch officially begin.

    If there is such a thing as "rustic luxe," this place has it in spades! My first visit here was late on a Saturday afternoon with my husband, and as it was an odd time between lunch and dinner, the place was quite empty. No bother to us, as we had the pick of seats! Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised by the new decor. I have been to this restaurant in all its various past forms, and I like this decor the best. We chose to sit in the bar at a high-top table for 2. Absolutely love the rich woods, exposed beams, industrial lighting - quite a beautiful space. The bar is large with ample seating, and sort of the kind of place I could get lost in on a chilly afternoon with cocktail in hand. At any rate, the bartender served us, and she was great. Polite, pleasant, not overbearing. I had a cocktail (name escapes me) which was basically a classic cosmo, but made with homemade ginger syrup. It was very good! My husband had beer, then eventually changed to The Tipsy Pig - this became more of a dessert for him after the meal. Bourbon, maple, brown sugar, a piece of maple glazed bacon floating in the glass....it was something to behold! (I'm not a bourbon fan, so it's a bit lost on me, but he really enjoyed it.) The food: I was expecting ok to good....I got fantastic! I was extremely impressed, and that was a pleasant surprise. We started with pigs in a blanket, which was made with a wonderful smoky sausage, and fresh stone-ground mustard. Delicious! I had the shrimp and grits, and my husband ordered the blackened catfish sandwich. My shrimp and grits contained the same smoky, charred chunks of sausage which were so delicious! Plenty of shrimp, gouda grits, and a thick gravy-like sauce that contained hints of worcestershire. I believe this was a lunch portion, and I was absolutely stuffed. If the dinner portion is larger, I can't imagine getting through it! So hearty and filling. My husband - not usually a fan of catfish - enjoyed the blackened preparation and the green tobacco remoulade so much, he became a huge fan that day! Overall, everything was much better than I expected it to be. Food was hot, fresh, served promptly, and with casual, easy service. Again, it was an off time of day, so perhaps when it gets busy things fall through the cracks a bit, but that was not my experience at all. I was completely blown away and found myself hoping that this place does well and sticks around (a fate its predecessors did not share). If they can keep to the standard I saw that Saturday, all will be well. Fingers crossed!

    Great atmosphere and outdoor seating on the patio. Enjoyed the drinks, scallops and pork belly (which came highly recommended in other reviews). I don't often give out 5 stars, but when I do you should try it!

    My wife and I went Friday at 8pm. The place was packed and the bar was slammed. Our table wasn't ready so we went to the bar for a drink. After finally getting one of the three bartenders' attention I ordered a High West Rye that they had trouble finding. It took a while but we finally got drinks and were able to enjoy the atmosphere. We were not seated until 8:40 and I commented to my wife that The Mill was suffering from being new and that I did not have high expectations for the food. Boy, was I wrong. The bacon wrapped dates and deviled eggs were a great start, followed by the butter lettuce salad and the wonderful short rib. The star of the show undoubtedly the smoked gouda gratin on the side. My wife's scallops were good if a little salty. The Jack Daniels chocolate pecan pie was above average. The service was really great as well. I think The Mill has a great shot at succeeding in a spot that seems a little cursed because of their great atmosphere and food. Once the new restaurant yips are worked out this place will be solid. They also have a nice patio with fire place for cold nights. Also, the majority of the food is sourced from farms right here in Georgia so that is a big plus.

    Every now and then the phone rings and you get to hear your parents whisper these sweet words into your ear "We're coming to see our Granddaughter." Translation: We're bringing the credit card so you better pick a great place to eat on us. Normally, my wife and I would only look on from afar at restaurants like this in Roswell. Seductively drooling as we made the turn down Marietta highway toward our Ramen noodle stocked abode. In fact its only special occasions and visits from the Parents, that we get to woo our gastronomic sensibilities with such fine establishments such as The Mill. We heard this place was a former funeral home, which is fitting, because your hunger will die honorably and valiantly. There were things on the menu that I would commit small crimes just to sample. The service throughout the evening was superb. Even during one hiccup firing my fried chicken, the chef himself even came out to apologize for the delay offering up a bowl of Brunswick stew and basket of house made chicharrones to make nice. A very considerate gesture, from such a finely bearded gentleman. The portions were incredibly generous. My wife's pork shank looked like something Chipper Jones could swing at an at bat. The fried chicken gauntlet has officially been thrown down in Atlanta. Never have I had such a flavorful and moist fried breast filet and drumstick. I'd put it far above Greenwoods and Carver's. The mac & cheese and buttermilk whipped potatoes were decadent. No one in my party left hungry, in fact we were still so full the next morning, we skipped breakfast. If I have any hang ups about The Mill, its that they don't have a belt check, because you really should leave yours at the door. We will definitely be back, when her parents and their Amex visit next time.

    We live in the neighborhood and have been waiting for something great to happen in this space. It finally has! We came early (you know- 5:00, we have kids, early). We didn't get any nasty "you have kids" stares. They seem to be able and willing to cater to families! Which leads me to the service- excellent! They put parmesan on our dairy allergic daughters noodles and they whisked them away and replaced them immediately. Lots of smiles and great suggestions from our server. The Wild Boar meatballs were awesome! Full of flavor and the right consistency for sure. Amongst our orders were the scallops, short ribs, and shrimp and grits. 99% of the reason I am giving 5 stars?? The food was HOT!!!! This is so rare and hard to do in the restaurant biz. And I despise cold food. All dishes came out together, hot and wonderful. The desserts were good but we were still so focused on the great meal, they didn't blow us away. Focus on your dinner- not dessert. You won't regret it!

    This rating is based on the poor customer service received from the manager. First off, The Mill Kitchen does NOT allow dogs. The manager states that unless it is a trained service dog it is a violation of health code to have them on the outdoor patio. Odd since a number of other restaurants in the Roswell area have no problem. The big issue, no apology and the manager politely showed me the door. Upon arrival the group waited outside while I went in. The hostesses were unsure about a dog on the patio. One said yes. The other thought no. They quickly got the manager. I explained that The Mill Kitchen is listed as "dog friendly" on the web and that their Yelp listing shows dogs allowed. I also told him that we had stated we would bring the dog in the comments on our Open Table reservation. Was again told that if it is not a trained service dog, it is a violation of the health code. He also stated that Yelp is not his web site and it is wrong. As this conversation took place he slowly walked towards the door, opened it and let it close behind me. No apology for the confusion. No hope that we would come back another time. Just the door. This was not a loud, animated or lengthily discussion. Therefore, our conclusion, bad customer service.

    This place does not even deserve one star. My husband and I made reservations to eat here via OpenTable. Upon arrival we were notified that our table was not ready yet but that we would be seated shortly. We made our way to the bar where the bartender was berating on one his servers in front of us and other patrons. After waiting 5 minutes for a drink and no service, the hostess came to get us for our table. We were seated and promptly greeted by our waitress. After ordering our entire meal per the waitress' request our wait began. We waited 10 minutes for our first round of drinks, an additional 5 minutes for our appetizer then after waiting an additional 50 minutes and being completely ignored by our waitress, we were notified there was a possible mixups with our check and the table next to us. The table next to us ordered after us and managed to be served and complete their meal before we were notified of the possible mixup. After waiting another 10 minutes my husband notified our waitress we wanted our tab and that we would be leaving. Our waitress responded, "I will pay for your drinks and I don't blame you for leaving." The waitress said this within earshot of her manager and he shrugged his shoulders and told my husband, "I am sorry." I am not one to complain about my experiences at a restaurant but this was exceptionally bad. I will not be returning to The Mill and will stick to Table&Main from here on out!

    Quality ingredients and knowledgable chefs are why this place works. The pork belly was cooked perfectly and the shrimp and grits were the best ive ever had. It did take a while to get entrees, but this isn't Chili's. We will return.

    Excellent Sunday Brunch. 1. Perfectly cooked poached eggs on the Georgia Benedict. More often than not, restaurants overcook poached eggs, so it's worth noting when it is done correctly. And a fantastic green-Tabasco Hollandaise on top. 2. Delicious chicken fingers for the kid. Not joking, I'd order them for myself if it were socially acceptable for a grown man to order off the kids' menu. 3. Best grits I've ever had in my life. They must cook these in pure heavy cream. They needed no salt, pepper, sugar, cheese or anything else. It would be worth coming back for the grits alone. Great job, Mill-people (Millers?)! We will definitely be coming back for dinner sometime soon!

    There have been mixed reviews for The Mill. I'm a frequent Yelper and fairly picky, so I wanted to try this place, as I love the Roswell scene. We decided to try it out this Friday evening and were very happy with our choice. We had a reservation and were seated right away. One of the complaints I've heard was bad service, but we never felt unattended and our server, Lauren, was fantastic. She had great recommendations - everything she suggested was fabulous, and she was personable, attentive, and even gave us a little history and info on the haunted status of the place. Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, although it would have been nice if the windows were able to open - it was a beautiful night and they had entertainment on the patio. It would have been nice to hear. The food was great - loved the pimento cheese fritters and the butternut squash ravioli starters. Everyone loved their entrees - scallops, steak, meatloaf & fried chicken. Dessert was delicious too - pecan pie and the coca cola cheesecake. Yum. We will definitely be back and will spread the word that The Mill is definitely worth going to!

    I have never given a restaurant one star but I feel compelled to write this review. Went to lunch with 2 other mothers and we all had our 1 year old's with us. We were seated promptly and drinks were quick. We put our order in soon after and requested the kids meals come out quicker. Mind you, the restaurant was half empty with most tables already with entrees (it is not a big establishment to begin with). I am not exaggerating when I say the kids pb&j took 25 minutes to come out. Our salads and sandwich came 5 minutes after that. I completely appreciate the farm to table and the restaurant's use of local farmers. I do not mind paying a bit more for quality. But as far as the restaurant side goes, something is truly amiss. My friend's salad did not have anything cooked on it. My salad had a grilled chicken breast. My other friend ordered a grilled cheese. Perhaps as other Yelpers have mentioned, there are issues within the kitchen and staff. My salad was great but the service was completely lacking. As we were leaving, We mentioned the slow service to the manager and he looked at us like we were joking. He was not genuine at all nor was he understanding. For a new and up and coming restaurant, I would have expected a more open mind in order for the restaurant to be successful as all businesses have to work through kinks in the beginning. Simply put, the manager and some staff were douches. Gosh, I really hope the owner listens to his patrons. Like I said, the food is great so I would hate to see this place fail.

    Nice decor. Overpriced for the food. Order a prime piece of fat by ordering pork belly. The deconstructed peach cobbler made every southerner at the table laugh. Probably will not return.

    Anyone who eats good food will recognize this is the real mccoy! Yes, quality and farm to table cuisine cost somewhat more than eating at a local franchise restaurant, but when you take into account that this meal is keeping local businesses around then why, unless you prefer frozen mashed potatoes and reheated entrees, would you complain. The service was fine....I actually thought they were quite professional and courteous. The Honey Fromage Blanc Parfait was AMAZING.

    First visit in, and I am happy with the new option. I'm always a big fan of local suppliers, and good atmosphere. The staff was great and the food was excellent. Shrimp and grits were worth it, and had a ton of shrimp. The kids chicken fingers were an adult sized portion, and fantastic. Definitely plan to go back.

    Not sure why anyone would give this place less than 4 stars. My wife and I decided to try something different this evening and came across The Mill, while heading towards downtown Roswell. On a whim, we pulled in, and boy, we did not regret it. I started with the hummus, while my wife began with the beet and watermelon salad. Excellent presentation on the salad...you kind of have to see it to believe it. And, the hummus tasted divine. Moving onto the main course, my shrimp and grits tasted...familiar..., which is exactly what I wanted. The type of taste that makes you smile around your spoon when you put it in your mouth. As good as the grits tasted, the kitchen really outdid themselves on my wife's order of grilled steal head trout. "#&@%-ing awesome", in her words, and she made sure our server knew. Speaking of which, we found the waitstaff prompt, helpful and engaging. In all, a great meal and a great night out.

    Food was good, but not good enough to put up with their horrible service, which is why I give it one star. It took forever to get my sons Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich and even longer to get our tables 2 salads and a grilled cheese soup combo. It's unfortunate that the managers/owners don't staff their restaurant with friendly competent employees. After our meal we told the manager that the service was lacking and the host LAUGHED at us. The manager was standing right there and did not reprimand his employee or make the situation better. All he said to my friend was "I don't doubt it." Seriously? One of the worst lunching experiences I have ever experienced. Save your time and go to Canton St and hit up Pico, Ceviche or Pastis.

    Ok, I have to admit that our experience at the Mill wasn't the greatest at the beginning. The Kitchen was out of its best two entrees, and they only have 7 entrees to choose from. Our waitress was nice, but could have handled the situation better. They ended up comping us an appetizer. Under the circumstances, I would normally give a max of 3 stars. However, the food was so delicious that, by the end of the evening, I had forgotten the hiccups and was left to think up an excuse for returning for more. The pork shank (one of the items that sold out - on my wife's order) was delicious, and the tomato soup and mixed greens salad were some of the best that I've had in Atlanta. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients make a huge difference - you can taste that difference here. Looking forward to my next visit.

    Just wanted to post another positive review after another great meal at The Mill. Started with a cheddar sausage appetizer with pickled onions and chive buttermilk biscuits. Very creative dish and very tasty. Entree was a simple burger. You know it is a good place when they make a great, basic burger. It was juicy, cooked perfectly and served with a nice portion of salty-sweet potato fries. To drink was a refreshing draft beer called The Pineapple Express. Husband had shrimp and grits - a significantly improved version of what they had when they first opened. Not too salty, good portion, rich but not overpowering. The kid had chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese because he was in a kid's menu mood ( there are a number of things on the main menu a teen would eat ( short ribs, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken, trout....etc. but kid's menu suffices if they are being super picky). Always a good restaurant when the chef comes out and greets all the tables and makes sure their dining experience was up to par. Service was attentive and not rushed. Dishes were cleared promptly, drinks arrived timely, and water glasses were never less than full. We will definitely return!

    I was so impressed with this place! First of all, the staff is very attentive. Then I found that the ingredients are all locally grown and the dishes are native to Georgia- shrimp and grits, ribs, bacon wrapped dates, meatloaf, the list goes on. The food was amazing. It doesn't stop there... the prices are also amazing! It was a surprise compared to the other Roswell chic restaurants and you don't have to pay for parking. Can't wait to go back!

    A generous rating at 1 star. Absolutely atrocious service, but worst of all, truly mediocre food. What didn't come out cold was decent, but not interesting or worth the money or time. Not a worthy addition to the other Canton Street restaurants.

    We were quite impressed with the new chef at this establishment. The freshness of the culinary ideas and taste is a "must eat". We moved from the Roswell area several years back, but were so glad to have another reason to visit our old 'hood again. We will definitely be repeat customers here!

    Read some of the reviews, some folks a little harsh on this excellent property. My experience was splendid. Superior apps, entree(s) all expertly delivered. Certainly worthy of a visit. New talent in the kitchen this " Mill Kitchen" delivers. Mostly an ITP consumer I found the Farm to Table approach here to be very well done. Open since February, a little drama from the kitchen ( Chef) appears to be behind them. Check it out, You'll find something to love. Besides that location should be a rocking Happy Hour considering the traffic from Roswell Road onto 120 that time a day. Pull over and get that blood sugar under control!

    My husband and I went to this restaurant for the first time last night. We got there relatively early - at 6:40, and because we did not have a reservation, had to opt to sit at the bar or the outside patio which has first come first serve seating. We were given a 45-60 minute wait time to sit outside which we accepted due to it being a Saturday night in downtown Roswell. We sat at the bar while we waited. I am pregnant and we wanted to snack on something while we waited. We chose the squash blossom appetizer. Napkins and plates and utensils were set in front of us. We observed the wait staff and the bar staff and the kitchen staff and the hostess stand from our perch at the bar which is central to all that's going on. One word describes what we saw - chaos - and it wasn't even 7 pm. It seemed like staff were disorganized and stressed out and the place wasn't even full (yet). After some time we heard the kitchen announce our squash blossoms were "up" and we watched a girl grab them and walk them over to another group that has just been sat and handed their menus (literally); she put them down at their table and walked away. Hmph. So as another table enjoyed our appetizer free of charge we waited while another dish was prepared for us. When it eventually arrived at least we were satisfied - it was very tasty. After 45 minutes at the bar we were sat outside. And we sat. And sat. No one came to take care of us until after 10 minutes of sitting we asked who might our server be. Eventually Sean came to the table and explained to us that he was busy with 7 tables so that's why we had to wait so long. At that point we had over an hour to observe the menu so we gave him our drink orders (water and a beer) and ordered a salad and main course. The wait for our drinks from the time we were sat (outdoors in the heat, me pregnant) was 20 minutes. For whatever reason our table did not get the cracker/bread plate others got nor were we told about the specials for the night. I would have like both. Long wait for our salad but the atmosphere was pleasant enough outside. A few bites into our salad, the main dishes arrived. Bad timing on all fronts. The rhythm of service fluctuated between painfully slow and rushed. Eventually we asked to speak with the manager. She took our observations well and offered to buy us dessert. When dessert time rolled around because the wait had been so long on all fronts I asked for some pie to go. The pie was brought to us in a to-go carton along with the check. We were charged for the dessert and we pointed that out and when the waiter went to correct the check I took a peak inside the dessert box. They had literally placed a scoop of ice cream on top of my pie that was to go. Huh??? We think staff need some real training at this place. Not on their A-game. It's a shame. We otherwise enjoyed the food very much. But when it is so painful to navigate every step of the way in a dining-out experience, no matter how tasty the food is if the service is sub-par there are just too many other places with excellent service and equally good food to race back to this one. When you are planning your date night out and paying $19 - $25 for a main dish you want to have a good experience all around. They need to get things better coordinated on the service front at this joint. Until they do, I rate them middle of the road...go with fair warning to bring your patience (especially if you get sat in Sean's section).

    I hate to write this review, seeing that I did not get a chance to eat or drink here. Unfortunately, I arrived there today around 4:10. I was unaware of the lunch to dinner hours. I should have done my homework. Here is why I gave it a star without having any food or drinks consumed. It was the greeting by the lady at the door after standing there for minutes. Many employees looked at me in the eye. Do you know how hard it is for someone to look you in the eye in normal situations. However, they had no problem doing that. She was rude in the way of telling me they are doing drinks only. Then in the same breath tells me the brunch hour was crazy and they were slammed. You wanna eat come back in an hour. Let me tell you what the proper response should have been. Oh sorry to keep you waiting, we are not doing food at this time but you can have drinks at the bar until that time. It was less than a hour. My response would have been heck yeah its 70 degrees out and I want to drink and drink now. This is how you stay in business people. Will I go back maybe but I don't know. I'll update my review at that time if I do.

    I met a friend for lunch here last week and was thrilled that Southern Food was back in Roswell. For this excursion, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, even though it was a bit expensive for the portion size. I had the Shrimp & Grits, which tasted amazing. That is where this story takes a turn. I was so excited to come back with my family of three this past Friday. I called and found out they were on an hour wait. I asked for a reservation for the next day but was told they had no reservations available on Saturday evening. But if I "walked in" between 5:00-6:00, I would surely not have to wait for a table. And they were right but I didn't ask about the chairs! At 5:55, the restaurant was dead with over half the tables empty. But because we didn't have reservations, we were stuffed in the back corner, next to the bar and the band, at a high top with backless barstools. I personally don't want to spend my money on pricey food while sitting on a barstool. So I asked to move to one of the MANY empty tables with actual chairs. As you can guess, that didn't happen. (Here is where we should have left.) But the host did offer me a table outside and shared that it wasn't supposed to rain for at least an hour. Yep, rain came early. We hovered under a sun umbrella, trying to keep our belongings and ourselves from getting wet. Not one employee made eye-contact with us while they were scurrying to the other outdoor empty tables to save the salt and pepper shakers from the rain. I again had the shrimp and grits but this time they were served with some shell left on the shrimp. My sweet waitress said, "Oh my, I'll take care of that for you." By that, she meant she did absolutely nothing about it. Also, it did not go unnoticed that the dinner portion is not bigger than the lunch portion but the price certainly is. My husband had the trout and expected a whole fish based on the $23 price. Nope, two slices. It's galling that a brand new restaurant thinks so highly of themselves that they don't seem to realize they really do need customers to want to eat at their restaurant, which I will never do again. The $8 beet salad couldn't compete with Sip's beet salad in Crabapple, which is twice as big, tastes better and cost less. I miss Relish, the restaurant that haunts The Mill. I really wanted The Mill to succeed. But even after I told the manager of my experience, she didn't do one thing to fix my situation. (And in case you were wondering, we left a still half empty restaurant at 6:55. Pretending you are the hot new restaurant in town isn't the best way to build a loyal fan base.)

    My family of 4 visited recently on a Friday evening, hoping to enjoy a nice evening on the patio. The patio at The Mill is very nice, and they had live acoustic guitar. My husband & I ordered beer, which took longer than it should have to arrive. We placed our order off of the limited menu (there are only a handful of entrees, most over $20), and waited. And waited. Our meals arrived, and we were excited to try the shrimp & grits, and the amberjack. I amberjack was $23 and I'm sorry to say that it was mediocre. There was absolutely no flavor, and is was a disappointment. This was more like a $9 entree than a $23 entree. My shrimp & grits was a little off. I can't put my finger on it, and I really don't shy away from non-traditional preparations, but it wasn't on-point. Again, not worth the hefty price tag. With only a handful of entrees to choose from, I would have expected better quality. My two children had kids meals, and there were no complaints. It was an $85 evening, and it just wasn't worth it. There are too many better options in Roswell.
