I've been going to this place for years, and it was always one of my favorites. However, in the last 6 months I've noticed the quality of the food going down. The quality of the wait staff has also plummeted. I was in there today for lunch with a friend and we sat closer to the bar. The guy who sat us, presumably the host, was also the person who eventually took our order. I say eventually because we sat for a good 10 minutes before he came to ask if we wanted drinks. Typically if a restaurant is busy, this is understandable. But the restaurant was not busy, so I'm not sure what he was waiting for. I ordered my usual, the #18 (taco, burrito, rice and beans). For whatever reason, it took an incredibly long time to get our food, which is quite the anomaly in a Mexican restaurant where you are used to food coming out almost instantaneously after ordering it. When it came out, the taco was missing. When the server delivered the food and asked if there was anything else he could get us, I asked him about the missing taco. He told me that the #18 only came with a burrito, rice and beans. As I said before, I've been coming here for years, so I know that's not right. I told him, let me look at the menu in that case. My friends order was also wrong. He went to get a menu, I assume he looked at it, and came back and told me that I was right and he would go ask for my taco. So he comes back with the taco, drops it off, and walks away. As I go to grab the taco, it literally fell apart in my hands due to being soggy. I didn't touch it again. The burrito was drenched in the red sauce, so it was a soupy mess and the rice was crunchy. If I had to guess, the food probably sat under a heating lamp for quite a while until it was brought to us. The server never came back to check on us for the rest of the time we were eating; and my friend tried waving him down for a good five minutes trying to get our bill so we could leave. The guy even looked at my friend making the universal "check" hand gesture, and then looked away and continued rolling silverware at the bar. When he finally got around to finishing rolling his silverware, and came to deliver the check, I let him know that the taco was just mush by the time it got to the table. All he said was "ok," and took it away. He didn't ask if he could get me another one, and he didn't take it off the bill. He literally could care less. My friend and I both looked at each other and said, "I don't know why we keep coming back to this place, it's really gotten terrible all around." I've worked in the service industry as a server, bartender, and manager in the past. The experience I had today should never happen when you are paying to eat somewhere. I hope management reads this because I would love for them to get their act together. The only reason for the second star is because this restaurant used to be one of my favorites for Mexican food. Might be time to try out some of the other Mexican restaurants in my area...

Very popular with families but the food was good too. Salsa was pretty good - and I'm picky about that!

In lieu of eating Bone Garden every night, I'll take Monterrey. It's clean, the food is reasonably priced, and the service is fine. 1st star - Location, cleanliness Monterrey's located in a pretty good spot. A Kroger shopping center that's go a few go exits / entrances from Holcomb Bridge Road. You can also exit out the back to get to Old Alabama too. Parking is plentiful, albeit not right next to the restaurant. You'll have to cross paths with Kroger in/out traffic, so watch your toes / children. The front of the restaurant is done up all orange stucco with a nice wooden pair of doors and some elaborate trim around the two windows. There's some outdoor seating -- wrought iron table and chairs. I didn't notice heaters OR fans, so dunno if temperature extremes will bite you in the butt while eating outside. Inside, more orange stucco and dark woods. A bar on the left. Main dining room on the right. Colorful glass globe lighting throughout. Some copper box lanterns over booths. Overall -- understated and in keeping with the Mexican theme. Also very clean. 2nd star - Decent service We were seated promptly upon arrival early afternoon on a Sunday. Some families were having late lunches, just like us. We took a 4-top table and waited to get drinks. Our waitress was quick and efficient taking drink orders and coming back with Cokes. We waited a little longer to get food orders in -- nothing terrible, but not the fastest in the world. Our waitress was very good about answering questions and bringing us refills throughout the meal. After about a 15 minute wait, we had our orders. 3rd star - Reasonably priced food On this particular visit, I ordered the two-fer combo for $9. I got two (2) enchiladas (chicken and shredded beef) and rice (no beans). Normally, in the predefined combos, you pay extra for chicken or shredded beef. Not so with the DIY two-fer. The enchiladas were smaller than, say, Bone Garden, but the meat was moist and had an OK standard enchilada flavor. The yellow / orange rice was fine too. The plate, honestly, was kind of boring -- just two (2) enchiladas and rice. No greenery. My wife ordered a fajita quesadilla. It was a decent portion, and she had no complaints about the quality. She was not a fan of the refried beans, though. 4th and 5th stars - Reserved for future visit. I'm glad we finally visited Monterrey. We've been in need of a decent Mexican restaurant for years in the area, and this isn't bad. It's still not Bone Garden, though.

Always excellent. My fav Mexican food place. BEST Margaritas in Atlanta. Get the frozen Texas margarita. Franco's service is exceptional. This place gets busy on weekends and sometimes the kitchen takes too long. Just makes more time for a refill and fresh made guacamole.

This place is a pretty solid performer. The ambiance is probably a 5 star in comparison with other Mexican restaraunts - it was just remodeled less than 6 months ago and has a nice mixture of 'romantic' and 'mexican'. The food here is very consistantly good, outside of some shrimp/seafood dishes. It's like occasionally either the dish is cooked a little too much or the seafood is just a bit past prime. The girlfriend loves this shrimp acapulco dish and 2 out of 3 times it's perfect, and then that third time it's not. Everything else though is fantastic. I will defiantely be back many times as it's close to the house and good. The Kroger next door prints out coupons on the back of thier reciepts for this place.

Since I wrote my last review on Monterrey I have been back several times. The service has been great and I have tried some more menu offerings. The sopa de pollo is so good, I love the fresh cut avocado. I have realized that the soup itself along with our guacamole was a meal in and of itself. I have also become a huge fan of their flautas with chicken. They are always really fresh tasting and not greasy. I also love that they come with guacamole and pico, which is a big plus in my book :). I'm definitely a fan now.

Never again. Burrito Al Carbon is marinated steak in rubbery dough, covered in cheese. Tasteless, and fattening to boot. Why not add some peppers, onions, and tomatoes? $13.95 margarita. Not that good.

I'm so glad this place has lasted over the years. The cozy interior, friendly staff, and lengthy menu all make it a staple in my Mexican-restaurant rotation. The table-side guacamole is incredibly delicious, though I'm not a huge fan of the salsa. Too watery. For something a little different in the entree department, I like to get the Burro de la Roqueta (two soft flour tortillas filled with chicken, simmered in beer and topped with melted cheese, and pico do gallo; comes with a choice of rice or beans). The cheese sauce has a bit of kick, and it's so yummy. Great food, staff, and ambiance. Definitely worth checking out, and the website says it is family owned and operated.

Fast seating & service on a busy Fri. night. Slightly pricier than average but food is well worth it.

My wife and I only live a few blocks away from this place. We've got two small children, so we seldom eat out these days. We do, however, regularly order takeout food from the local restaurants. It'll be clear to you from the second you walk into the place that the bartender(s) don't want anything to do with your to-go order. Expect long waits, glares, and rude begrudging service. The worst part is, this review isn't a one off -- it's the norm. It's happened to me at least there or four times. In fact, I swore the place off last time, three months ago... Tonight was my one final attempt to see if they'd changed their tune. They Haven't.

We stopped in for a late night dinner around 10:00pm. It was a busy, fun environment. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered our meals and the food came out just a short time later. I tried the Texas Fajitas. The vegetables were very good and cooked very well. The meat was good not great. My biggest complaint would be the time after our meal. Several people came in and our waiter was doing the table-side guacamole thing for them and that's when we realized he was the only waiter taking care of the tables. (Others were bringing food to the tables but that seemed to be their limited scope of work!) When our waiter finally brought us the ticket he told us the queso was on the house. That was a nice gesture and it told me he was not trying to abandon us! All in all - good food and good service. We will be back.

The food is delicious. They have the typical Mexican food, but then they also have their own specialties. The service is wonderful too. We discovered this place two weeks ago, and we are already back. It's not even close to where we live.

I typically love Monterreys, but not this particular location. Horrible service and rude servers. Has a great atmosphere but the 5-7 times we have been there we were given subpar service and once when we were on the patio our server forgot about us until we had to go find him. IMO they are way too busy at prime time that the servers are just trying to turn over their tables quickly, and the table can tell! If you are Going to visit go during a slow time and maybe it will be better, because the food is great!

Monterrey has great food at a reasonable price. The burritos and fajitas were excellent, as was the service. Check it out if you're ever in Roswell.

TERRIBLE. I had to ask for chips and salsa. The waiter never offered. What kind of Mexican restaurant makes you ask?? The food was average. I am from Milwaukee, WI and out Taco Bell's give better service and the Mexican restaurants are superior to this one.

  • James T.

Probably one of the worst meals I have had in 10 years. Had to ask three times for water. The red wine was served in HOT glasses which made the house wine almost undrinkable, the food order was incorrect with little effort to rectify, and there was a general lack of service throughout the meal. We have eaten here before with acceptable results, but tonight was horrible. Location is close to our home, but will not return in the foreseeable future!!

I wanted some Mexican and I stopped here before going shopping in the area. I sat at the bar to enjoy my meal. I ended up ordering what amounted to cheese dip with two strips each of chicken and steak and two shrimp. The cheese dip was delicious I must say. I wasn't that impressed with how the chicken tasted. The seasoning wasn't that good. Also, I wasn't that impressed with the salsa that comes with the chips, which were warm btw. I preferred it more chunky. The bartender needed some personality. She had zero. No smiles, no frills, no warmth. And she shouldn't get mad at me because I asked for a take out container and she brought me a box for my dip instead of a bowl thingie with a lid. I didn't do it lady. Live entertainment and trivia began while I was there. That was pretty cool. I would return here if I were in the area.

This used to be our go to Mexican spot, but the service and food has taken a nose dive. When we went it was 7:15pm on a busy Friday night. I've seen how busy this place gets and I decided to call ahead a few hours to set a reservation for a party of six. When we arrive, I let the hostess know that we had two unexpectedly show up and that I apologized for the late notice. I told them it was fine to squeeze two chairs at either end of the table. Fast forward almost 30 minutes later. We finally are called to be seated and, lo and behold, it's a table of six with two added chairs. I was quite confused why we were delayed a half hour for the same table that I reserved hours earlier. Once we were seated, it was a solid 10+ minutes until we had someone acknowledge us about drinks. The waitress was quite sweet so that gave us some hope. I've waited tables and bartended so I know a full house can be stressful so I was going to give her the benefit of the doubt. We ordered waters all around and a pitcher of margaritas. I didn't see that pitcher for a good 35-40 minutes after we placed the order. Waiting to place the order for food and then receiving that food took just as much time. Orders came out wrong or were missing parts. One cook/busboy delivered a burrito to our table (which no one ordered) and was getting angry when no one was claiming it. My friends order, which she requested be vegetarian, came out stuffed with chicken. And my boyfriend's taco salad was so dry from sitting under a heat lamp while it took an hour to get our food. We quickly asked for checks, knowing that it would be a while until we saw them. Our waitress regretfully informed us that she had somehow erased our tables entire order and was having to resubmit it. When she brought us our check (my boyfriend's and I) she casually said that she rung in our pitcher incorrectly resulting in a cheaper price. She had the nerve to state that because it was $10 shy, we should reflect that in our tip. Now, being that I understand the industry, I consider myself a generous tipper. The fact that because she messed up she thought that entitled her to be compensated just didn't sit well with me. I would have rather waited to get a correctly priced ticket and paid for that. The group was supposed to hang out after dinner, but one member got sick and my boyfriend and I had upset stomachs the rest of the evening. I'm just hoping it was not food related. We're quite bummed that one of our "used to be" favorite spots has declined so much. Sadly, after that experience, I do not think we will be coming back.

service horrid, bartender apathetic, waitress attitude beyond belief, tried to argue us out of the free yelp check in margarita, had a snide comment for everything we requested (clearly she has no need for tips) Poblano shrimp tacos were good, but not worth the grief - no repeat on tap for us.

Monterrey is my go-to place for Mexican. Their upgraded digs are awesome, just look at some of those pics! I want the lighting in my house. The food is your standard Mexican fare, but if you look closely they have a nice selection of non-traditional dishes. (not non-traditional Mexican dishes, but "Americanized" Mexican rather.) Their margaritas are refreshing and they have drink specials on most days. The staff is usually friendly and helpful, always willing to share their favorite dishes. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

If you are looking for a typical, tex-mex, strip mall Mexican joint, then Monterrey is ok. I have been there several times and they have some great margaritas (althought one time they "temporarily" were having issues with their liquor license). The burritos are good.

Stopped in as we purchased a Groupon for dinner that included an appetizer, two entrees and two margaritas. While I REALLY liked the food (I had the beef taco salad), my husband ordered the mixed fajitas and wasn't that impressed, so we had to agree on a 3 rating. We also had the loaded queso dip, the cheese was good; but it had alot of onions and peppers (not diced), so it was messy to eat. the margaritas were tasty and you couldn't beat the deal. The service was good; they were incredibly busy, and the noise level was pretty loud. It was a Friday nite, so not out of line. We'll be back and try a few other things.

At my office we usually pick a place and send someone off to grab the food, and we had monterrey a few times. They always got at least one thing wrong with the order, but it was never a big deal. The food was really good. The last time we ordered there, I found little black hair (EWWWW) in my enchilada, and a food bag's metal ziptie in the other! I called them up to let them know that they have some issues in their kitchen, but they couldn't have cared less. The food was good, but if they are this lax about safety standards, then I'd say go somewhere else!

Thanks to an Entertainment Book coupon, Monterrey gets 4 stars from me. The ambiance is great, this is a cute place. The food was good, got fajitas. I guess those are hard to mess up. Chips were warm and the salsa was good - mild, but good. They have great drink specials during the week. I wish we had come one of those days. I would go again with a coupon for sure, but I probably wouldn't make the drive without one because it is pretty far away from my house. Give it a try though, a great night out for sure.

Great, traditional American-Mexican food - enchiladas, tacos, refried beans, Mexican rice. Lunch here is great. They've got all the specials that you'd expect, including the Speedy Gonzalez, and they really are speedy and affordable. I particularly like the Monterrey Cheese Steak, which is like a giant fajita taco with nacho cheese - everything I love about Mexican food in one tasty combination. The service is ridiculously fast. There's chips and salsa at your table practically as you sit down. You can be in and out of there for lunch in 30 minutes, which would make most people think that the food is pre-prepped and sitting, but the food doesn't taste like it.

So apparently I haven't written a review of this place. Time to remedy that. I've mostly gotten take out from here, but I've dined in a few times as well. The service is super fast, super cheap, and super tasty Americanized Mexican food. I love the cheese they put on their tacos. I could eat that all day. I also love their queso. My personal favorites are the chicken tacos & chicken quesadilla. Usually two of the tacos will leave me stuffed and I'll save the quesadilla for lunch the next day. It reheats really well, which can't be said for a lot of Mexican food. It doesn't get runny, soggy, or gross. The chicken is also all breast meat, not the mystery meat you can run into. Nobody likes mystery meat and everyone loves a good deal on good food. Right?

Go here if you want to grab sizzling Mexican food without burning a hole through your tongue or wallet. After listening to my co-worker rave about his latest trip to Honduras, I had an intense craving for Central American food. Before I could yelp away for a Central American restaurant, I remembered that I had an awesome Groupon to a Mexican restaurant. I figured it was close enough, and my boyfriend was down to check it out for dinner on Saturday. We arrived around 8pm-- plenty of parking and no wait. Warm chips and salsa were brought out promptly. The waiter was full of smiles and ended every sentence with "amigos". The atmosphere was casual and lively: families and groups of friends chatting, multiple TVs, and the bartender pumping out margaritas. The menu was pretty extensive and inexpensive. For starters, we ordered queso fundido ($6.50). We thought it'd be like a cheese dip, but it turned out to be a delicious combination of 6 fajitas + a skillet of thick, melted cheese on top of poblano peppers, onions, and mushrooms with a side of spicy beef. Lots of flavors! It was like a meal in itself. We then ordered small strawberry margaritas, frozen ($4.95+flavor). The ample amount of tequila made up for the forgotten salt. For entrees, BF ordered plump, juicy shrimps wrapped in bacon ($13.50, it was on the special menu and had a special name I cannot remember). I got Texas fajita ($11.50, which came with beef, chicken, and shrimps. The rice and avocado salad were normal. The meats were sizzling and juicy, I like! I'm sure we could've done it for under $25, but since we ordered to whatever Groupon allowed us to, the bill came out to ~$48, which was covered by my Groupon, save for a few bucks for tip and extras. I left happy and buzzed :) *First yelp review!

Really not so good my Fahita meat (supposedly skirt steak) was tough and shrimp a bit tasteless. The sides were fresh and good. Service at the bar was miserable and the manager even more so.

Hands down this is the best Mexican Spot OTP.... And they just redesigned the whole place and it looks gorgeous they really stepped it up and made it look more modern and classy.. The service is always amazing the food always comes out Hot and Fast... I always make this 1 of my stops when visiting Roswell...

The restaurant was busy on a Friday night -- good sign. Initial service was good. Then our food came. The fish tacos were a horrible soggy tasteless mess. The chili rellenos could not be differentiated from a lake of re-fried beans. The margaritas and cheese dip were OK. After the food was dropped off, we never saw our waiter, Sergio, again. We wanted more drinks, salsa, and dessert. Never had the opportunity. Obviously others appreciate something here we did not experience.

After my review about the "chicken soup fiasco" the manager contacted me on here and apologized and offered me a free meal,so I'll bump it up one star and bc the incident happened well over a yr ago, let's hope they have dealt with the issue.

American mexican done poorly. Interesting idea with the Monterrey dip?'x but the "cheese sauce" was so runny it looked like milky water. Meat chunks in it were tasty, but everything else was MEH.

I went there this Monday afternoon. I think we just found our new favorite Mexican restaurant. They have $2 domestic beer on Mondays. We had cheese dip and fajitas for two. My hubby had 2 beers. The food was great! I haven't had such great fajitas ever since I moved to Alpharetta 6 months ago. The meat was perfectly seasoned. The white onions and bell peppers are well cooked and has a lot of flavors. They put a big portion of food on your plate. On the fajitas grill pan and ur pan for beans and rice. Which i really appreciate. The waiter was relaxed and helpful. We will definitely come back!

I was so sad to see El Azteca go, but Monterey's though a chain has consistently great service and food quality since it opened. I went to the local high school and remembered the old Monterey's in Woodstock my family and I ate there every Friday. I thought the one would not be able to hold down the reputation and quality, boy was I wrong. This place is spotless I have NEVER seen any filth or a napkin out of place. The servers know there stuff and strive to make every customer feel like they are in their mothers kitchen with the heavenly food here. Every item on the menu is GREAT, I mean you can try any one dish and you will fall in love. ALL THE PRODUCTS HERE ARE FRESH AND PREPAIRED FRESH, no taco powder packets or jar salsa from a store shelf. The salsa is the perfect balance of garlic and spice, with the salty chips really gets you ready to chow down. Be ready to over eat here because I can never stop myself.

I have family members and friends who live in the area and are weekly regulars at Monterrey. We had dinner there for my sister's Bachelorette party and the whole experience was fantastic. We were there on a cold and rainy Thursday night, so the place wasn't busy at all...though this didn't stop the Spanish karaoke. And thank god for that- were able to dine to the heartfelt sounds of J-Lo duets as I'd hoped. The salsa is delicious and I found myself digging into the queso dip long after it had congealed...yes....congealed queso is STILL GOOD. Their margaritas were solid, as was the chicken mole. I especially liked that they were really amenable to modifying my order for cheese sauces, etc on the side and substituting black beans for refried. It was also nice they didn't make me feel like a pain in the ass for asking. On top of all this, the prices are so freaking cheap and the staff is really really nice. Although I'm sure it helps they know my whole family by name.

PAY WITH CASH ONLY!!!! My wife and I went for the first time on March 22, 2013. The food was average. But my biggest complaint is that when we asked our waitress if we pay her or pay up front she insisted NUMEROUS times that we pay her, even though we had seen all other customers go up front to pay. Since it was our first time we handed her our card. She went to the back for about 5 minutes then walked up to the front counter, swiped our card, then brought us our ticket. I thought everything would be fine until today when there were 2 charges for a train station in SOUTH AFRICA totaling over $1,000. I have made no other purchases with my card in many days and I highly doubt this was a coincidence. Nothing but a SCAM.

There is nothing like getting good food and good service at the same place. We stopped by for dinner. I had beef tip tapas which were smokey, tender, with a good chimichurri sauce. She had the Monterrey cheese steak, also tasty. Our server was a sweet kid who probably was either in high school or college. Although it was hard for her to wrap her head around bourbon on the rocks (without coke or something) she was attentive and charming, in sharp contrast to some of the professional wait service I have experienced recently in places where I was spending much more money. These guys do a great job.

I've been going to Monterrey for the last 7 years. It is pretty good. Your typical local Mexican restaurant, food comes out within 5 min. of ordering which imo means that they have prepared everything weeks ahead of time, your food has been sitting in the fridge and they just nuked it. However, if you have eaten at any other local Mexican restaurant you are familiar with this phenomena. They have an awesome beer special where you can get a liter of beer for like 6 bucks or something. I def. abuse this. Also, I love their queso but i'm a cheese fiend.

Thanks to coupons, friends and trivia, the husband and I had an impromptu night of fun here yesterday. Another couple which frequents Monterrey Wed and Thurs for trivia, brought us their daughter to babysit and their convertible to transport us out for the night. The food was quite good, but extremely filling. I had fish tacos; the boy had beef tip chimis. Both beers and margaritas were obscenely large. And I mean obscene. My "Tecate in can" seriously needed some Cialis next to these big boys. The crowd here was darling. Noisy, boisterous and child friendly. Trivia folks mixed with families mixed with Karaoke...yes Karaoke too. And somehow it all worked out wonderfully. We won the trivia, so got a coupon and will be back. Who knows? Maybe we'll be regulars. It was that good "comfy" sort of fun place. Now if only I can convince the boy not to sing Ringo Starr's "NoNoNo" for Karaoke when kids are present!

This usually isn't my neck of the woods, but since we were in the area, we needed a good place to eat. I checked Yelp on my phone for any good Mexican restaurants and Monterrey was ranked pretty high so we decided to stop through. The staff was very nice and we were seated promptly. The restaurant itself is a decent size and had a good size crowd the evening we were there. The restaurant had a pretty diverse selection along with the numbered combos I've come to expect. The food was good but not spectacular. I enjoyed the chips and salsa. Like others have said, it's watered down and had a good flavor. I ordered a beef taco, chicken enchilada, and a beef burrito (Combo #11?). The serving size was pretty big so I only ate half. It reminded me of the usual Mexican food I've received from other restaurants. The food was delivered very quickly after ordering. Our server disappeared on us after taking our orders but made up for it after fixing a discrepancy on our bill and give us a larger discount. Overall, if I was in the area, I would eat here again.

The service was quite slow. The quality of the food was not four stars as many of the reviews stated. We ordered the veg nachos - blacks beans, cheese and chips. All cheese. The black beans were in a purée firm seemingly out of can. Just awful. I had the chicken quesidilla- too much cheese and a little chicken. Will not return. additionally they do not have crayons or paper for kids.

Good little Mexican restaurant off Holcomb Bridge Road with recently updated decor...a bit upgraded over your average Mexican restaurant, but not enough to drive the prices to ridiculous levels. Prices are average, food is very good, and the margaritas are some of the best in the city...on Wednesdays, they have a margarita special for 3 bucks and live music as well! Service has been a bit slow for me at times, but not to the point of irritating. Staff is friendly and helpful. They have sold me as a regular on Wednesdays!

We are regulars at Monterrey and always will be. We love the food, but it is the staff that keeps us coming back!! Octovio is so professional and is always on top of everything! The hostesses and waiters/waitresses are all so friendly!! Our family has so many wonderful memories from Monterrey...it truly is our most favorite local hangout!!

Great family place for Mexican. Food is average, service varies and the ambiance is always "active". As it's located near Ippolito's, I'd say it is to Mexican what Ipp's is to Italian -- definitely good, but not great food.

Monterreys has great mexican food and the best table side guacamole around. You can choose what you want in it and it's as fresh and delicious as you will find around the Roswell area. Their fajitas are great too and they have unique items you don't normally find on a mexican menu. Drinks are great too and a cool atmosphere. It's a great find in the Roswell area.

Great place, I've been to quite a few of their restaurants while traveling in the south east. They are all family owned and have good prices, great food and wonderful service. You find all of their locations and menu items on this site: eatmonterreys.com

This place is close by to where I live. I have been here a few times in the past with my family and the food is absolutely delicious. Also, the chips and salsa were served as soon as we all sat down. I ordered their shrimp taco entre once and I loved it a lot. I also loved the atmosphere as well. The service was always excellent and quick everytime that I dined here. The food is inexpensive and fresh. I have always enjoyed my time here and have always enjoyed coming here and dining here. I will definitely come back here again soon.

The reviews about the salsa are true. Incredible! Most places are watered down and tomatoey, but this was so flavorful. My wife and I split the fajitas for one, which was more than enough for both of us, and for the price, it was excellent. I could see myself becoming a frequent customer.

had the most horrible experience- the food was mediocre at best (as usual) but the service was the WORST. sat us in a draft, never came back (we had to beg a busboy for napkins, more tea and chips- which never came, I grabbed tea and napkins myself) but the scary thing was when the bill came I tipped a dollar- the 'waiter' SLAMMED the book closed so load my companion jumped (he didn't see the sound coming) and then the 'waiter' sat at the waiters table and glared/bitched/cursed at us the whole time. We couldn't understand what he was saying but the face/jhand gestures left nothing to the imagination to the point I wondered if he might slash my tires. I am afraid to ever eat there again for fear of what he might do to my food. (bleach in the salsa? hair? metal) Frontera Tex Mex grill is not to far away and their roasted salsa is AMAZING. thanks for helping me find a better restaurant.

For the last 5 1/2 years this was my local neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Its got your typical Mexican food fare, and no its not super-authentic. But Monterrey (at least this location) has a few things going for it: 1) The prices are CHEAP. My wife and I had dinner for $13 + tax&tip I think the most expensive thing on the whole menu is $10, most special dinner entrees are $6.50-8.50. Combos are cheaper. 2) They have very good salsa. Always a big plus for any Mexican place because I like my Salsa with some chips on the side. 3) The service here is always good, I've never had a problem with my food taking a long time, waiting for drink refills or orders being screwed up. If you are in the mood for Mexican and find yourself on the east side of Roswell, come here and have a good meal.

Monterrey is a family favorite! My parents go every week and I go about once a month. The food is delicious, the service is great, and the ambiance is fun! Couldn't ask for a better neighborhood restaurant. We love it!

Blah! Terrible food, terrible service, terrible management. My family and I went for lunch on Saturday. The guacamole was bland, the taco salad was served in a giant taco shell, not a taco bowl. The dish was underseasoned. My daughter's shrimp quesadillas were GREASY. My husband ordered the taco combo, and there was a foreign object in one of his tacos! When he presented it to the management, they offered to discount us for our DRINKS, but did not offer to take the contaminated dish off our bill! The manager just shrugged and offered no apologies. With the wide choice of Mexican restaurants in Atlanta, WHY WOULD YOU EAT AT THIS PLACE? We will certainly never go back!

Bummed tonight after calling the manager specifically to ask if the shrimp was wild caught. He confirmed. You know how farm raised shrimp has that nasty aftertaste? Yeah, as soon as the waitress set my plate down I could smell that taste. Less than thrilled that either the manager didn't know his food product or he flat out lied. Lesser issue but still salt in the wound - asked for unsweet tea and got a mix of unsweet and sweet. When I brought it to the waitresses' attention she brought me another one that tasted the same. Instead of brewing new tea she kept insisting it was unsweet. I drank their nasty chlorine water instead. Hope I don't die tomorrow.

I would rather lick the floor of a beach bathroom then come back to this place. I understood that going to any Mexican restaurant on cinco de mayo is pretty much pointless if you are looking for good service and a small wait time. But COME ON! We waited for at least an hour to get a table. Which I understand. I knew we were probably gonna have to wait that long or even longer. But there were several tables open outside under this big tent. What I don't understand is why there were only two people serving like 30 + tables. So we didn't get a waitress for a good 30 minutes after sitting down. We finally waved down some random girl who proceeded to tell us that she couldn't get alcoholic beverages but we just wanted waters. So her job there was pretty much pointless. She went to get a waitress ..... This girl (our waitress) must have a part time job of guarding hades because she was so incredibly rude and I'm pretty sure she was on something strong. She literally told me to hurry up with my order. She told my boyfriend that he talked to slow and she was laying down the forks and knives and stabbed one of my friends and walked away. Every time we tried to talk to her, she would act like we were stupid and didn't matter. She would sit down at our table when she took our order. Like uhm your not invited lady. Remove yourself. Prior to even getting our order taken SHE ASKED US IF WE WANTED OUR CHECK!? Like what ? We haven't even ordered ? Idk where she was going with that (hence the fact that I said she might be on something)? But anyway , We literally waited like an hour and a half to get food. And the cheese dip was literally freezing cold. But like I said , I expected that because they had told us that the kitchen was backed up. And to be honest I wouldn't mind the wait but our waitress was so incredibly rude. I just wanted to spend time with my friends and she ruined it. Anyway .. The food finally came out and half of the orders were wrong. And of course I didn't even get my plate until everyone was half way though eating theirs. She even asked if we needed anything else when there was nothing in front of me. Like yes I'd like my food that I am probably not gonna eat because it's been like 3 hours and I filled up on chips and salsa. So anyway, she brought out my food. At this point I'm already really pissed off. She was holding my food talking to someone at our table for like 5 minutes. Like just put it down. I mean I wasn't even hungry but I wanted her to go away. I was afraid to ask for a Togo box cuz I didn't think I would get it for another hour. But I did anyway and she also brought our checks. Like 30 mins later. I was ready to go. Like now. And I got my card out and she was still blabbing to her friends. So i got up and went inside to get it done myself. Omg! When I asked one of the waitresses if she could slide my card because I was ready to go, this MF rolled her eyes at me. I'm 700% sure she was drunk. She smelled like tequila and she was talking slow. Super Classy. Anyway I said. Never mind and walked away from her while she was still talking. I wasn't dealing with anymore BS. so I literally did a whole 360 around the restaurant and couldn't find one waitress or waiter. FINALLY I found one and he was also rude ( shocking ). And probably drunk. Anyway he rang up my tab and told me to sign. I signed it and walked outside to get my box and boyfriend. I thought I would be nice and let the devil herself know that we paid inside to speed up the process. She literally shooed me away!!!! I was like oh hell no. Then we walked to our car and not even ten minutes down the road my friend calls me to ask if I remember who I asked to ring up my check. I said I didn't remember because it was dark and everyone there was either rude or didn't care. So I'm sure that waitress lost money that night but karma is a b****! Anyway. I would never EVER go back there. Her name was Anastasia. She has died red hair and wears way to much eyeliner. And it wasn't just her that was rude. I hate that place. And will never go back. Especially on cinco de mayo.

I like it! I LOVE margaritas and this place has huge ones! The cheese dip is great and although I can't really remember what I ordered for dinner, I know that it was pretty good. The service is always quick (I think) I usually drink one of those jumbo margarita's and might be a bit more laid back! I would give it a try, you will be impressed!

Food and service were on a terrible standard. After our waitress dropped of our drinks ,the manager came to us very directly and opened with "what do you want". We weren't ready to order ,so it took them another 10 or so minutes to come get our order. The food was awful, my rice had absolutely no flavor and nobody at the table was satisfied. They locked the doors 40 minutes before they even closed and made us walk out through the patio exit.... never coming back and I recommend you never go.

Okay Mexican-American food. It's pretty standard Mexican-American food for the Atlanta exurbs. It will definitely appeal to the upscale crowd. If you want to go a few miles away you can find real Mexican food.

I wasn't impressed. I had the veggie combo C. Beans and cheese burrito and a cheese quesadilla . It was ok. Nothing special. While you wait for your food, you can munch on the complimentary chips and salsa. Again nothing special. Chipotle is much better. Lol Would I come back? Probably. It was just ok not bad. I used the yelp offer of a free margarita. I mentioned to the waiter this right before we ordered our food, he said he had to ask the manager. Fair enough. But he finally got around to that at the very end! He brought it out with our check. We couldn't figure out what favor it was plus it tasted totally of tequila and salt. Totally yuck. We had a few sips and that was that. If I'm in the area, I'll give it another try!

This is our local Mexican restaurant so we have eaten here a few times. The service is good and friendly. The food tastes good and there is a diverse set of dishes to choose from. The place looks tired and is not the cleanest but the atmosphere is lively and it is always quite full. Family friendly and reasonable prices.

Went here several wks ago after work to sit outside and have some drinks and apps. I had to get up twice to get the server, Sergio. My friend had a jalapeno martini and instead of it being infused it had jalapeno chopped up inside of it. It was $15!! My partner and I split a plate and it was just enough and then I had top get up again and tell Sergio we needed the checks. I found that he was on the phone in the lobby area. I will not be back, they do not care about customers or customer service.

This place used to be my go to place for good authentic Mexican food. They are located fairly close to me. They are located inside of a shopping center with Kroger and Great Clips right next to a storage space facility. Yesterday, I decided to call in my order as well as my family's order for take out. The lady that I spoke to on the phone with that took my to go order and my family's to go order was completely friendly and professional. When I went there yesterday to pick up my family's to go orders, I dealt with the same lady that took my family and I's to go order over the phone. They also had some guy doing some sort of trivia and playing some weird music. The atmosphere is clean and the décor is not bad at all. The wait time for the food only took only approximately just twenty to thirty minutes which isn't too bad at all. The minute that I got the food back to my home, none of it looked appetizing at all. I was surprisingly very disappointed. I have been here, dined here, and got take out from this Mexican restaurant several times before in the past and all those times, the food had been excellent and very delicious. However, today this place surely has disappointed yesterday. I ordered the shrimp and steak fajita nachos. My family ordered the Number One (one taco and two enchiladas with rice and beans) and a burrito that was covered in Queso with beans and rice as well. The chips for my nachos were completely soggy from having a crap ton of Queso smothered and covered all over them. The beef (steak) that were on my own nachos tasted like complete crap. It had a very weird and gross taste to it. The steak (beef) had a super horrible taste to them. I could still taste the blood that was on the meat from right before being cooked. This is how I know that they never even bothered to clean and rinse the beef (steak) before cooking it. The Queso that they have used for my nachos was just simply mediocre at best. The shrimp of my steak and shrimp fajita nachos was a little dry, tough, and had a little rubbery texture to them. The vegetables were also mediocre. Also, the sour cream was very weird. It had an in plain sight cottage cheese texture to it. The chips for my nachos were completely stale and lacked flavor. I felt as if they used chips that were approximately a couple of days old to make my shrimp and steak fajita nachos with to save money and to cut down on cost. Also, there was one waitress there that does have attitude. She also did lack having good customer service as the other Yelper has stated. When I walked in there yesterday during dinner hour, it was extremely packed with people. I don't know nor understand how this Mexican restaurant does so well when the food here is just absolutely terrible. It just simply amazes me. I will not be coming back here at all ever again. I absolutely do not recommend dining here nor ordering takeout from here at all. I recommend La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant in Norcross, Georgia. The food over there is absolutely delicious, divine, and flavorful. Also, they provide better wait service over there.

Clean, reasonably priced, perfectly good Mexican food. I went at night with some friends, they had a guy organizing a trivia game amoungst the patrons. I have to say that we came really close to wining... Fun. It appears to be a good, go-to Mexican place.

Horrible service. We sat down at our table to wait 8-12 minutes for the waitress to come to our table to order out drinks. Then we had no silverware or napkins. We the placed our order for an appetizer and food. After our food came, our waitress came over maybe once to check on us and then disappeared. We waited on our check forever and had to ask another waiter to find our waitress . When she came to the table and we told her her service was horrible she began to argue with us about how WE should have handled the service. We then complained to the manager who you could tell cared less. We will never return!

Let me start off by saying the food here is really good. And that is the only reason I'd gone back. Horrible service! The first time was for a late lunch. The place was not packed, maybe three tables and some people at the bar. We had to remind our waitress that we ordered guacamole and we didn't get that until after our meals arrived. Which was missing something. Never saw waitress again, she was busy sitting at a near by booth with other staff members. I had to get up and ask the bat tender to refill my drinks. Second time was for dinner. Thought we'd give it a second shot. This time they were beyond busy. Almost excusable that we never got our dips and our order was wrong. Third and final attempt was another lunch. Again, three tables were taken. Someone took our drink order after about 10 minutes then another waitress came and took our order. She was sweaty and out of breath. We finished our drinks and chips before our meals arrived. Did we see our waitress? No. She walked by plenty but never came back to our table. Until she was with our food again sweaty and out of breath. By this time there were only two tables occupied including mine. We ate and got the check. She never cane back to get our card so we went up front to pay. The hostess had to fetch our waitress which again was out of breath but I saw her sitting in a near by booth with other employees. What is this? I mean I've been a waitress. It was never ok to sit in plain sight, in booths for customers. Especially when you have tables. And to tell me "it's been one of those days" well that has nothing to do with me. We won't be returning. We gave it three try's hoping the time before was just that day. Well it wasn't. The wait staff is horrible,

WORST "SERVICE" I have ever had! 10/9/14 @ 9pm Came here with my girlfriend and sat outside. Waited 10 min and no server ever came for the greet. Went and told the hostess and servers up front (who were just standing around talking). Wait another 5 minutes, some guy brought out the disgusting aalsa and thru it on out table - did not say anything to us. THEN HE PULLED OUT HIS CELL PHONE and took a call!!! Huh??? We continue to wait...nothing, no one... Mgmt did not help. God awful, dont waste ur time - Frontera is down the road about 2 miles to the east on jimmy carter they have good service and great food. Monterey will likely be close down for health code violations!

Ugh. I woke up this New Year's day hoping that the hangover fairy would wave her magic wand and allow me to move without feeling the need to vomit. At some point during my in-and-out stupor, I reached over in the bed and slapped the remote to turn the TV on. For some reason, the sounds of Telemundo were polluting my airspace, when a sudden urge for Mexican food suddenly struck. What's better than Mexican food to reverse the horror from the night before? Monterrey Mexican Restaurant is very close to where I live, but I hadn't yet tried it so I figured I'd give it a shot. I sat at the bar and was immediately presented with a menu and chips and salsa which were exactly what I needed and really good. The menu was very extensive, and I wanted to try a handful of different things so I went with a combination platter. I ordered a taco, enchilada, and nacho cheese tostada with refried beans. Boy was I disappointed. Initially, I thought that the 2 gallons of vodka I drank the night before may have impaired my taste buds, but that wasn't the case. The tostada was great but the taco, beans, and enchilada were absolutely flavorless. The ground beef in the taco had no seasoning and if it weren't for the sauce, the enchilada would have been inedible. The atmosphere was good, and I'm sure it would be a decent spot for a margarita happy hour, but I have no plans on going back to eat when I can get better Mexican food at Applebees.

This use to be our favorite Mexican restaurant because the atmosphere is good, service is friendly, and the Table Churassco dish is excellent... I hope they decide to spruce the place up because it's feeling worn down and EVERY darn time I order a margarita it comes to me in a HOT glass straight out of the dishwasher I guess. I like this place a lot but it's the little things that keep me from going back. Like melted margaritas.

I took some friends and family here this past weekend to grab a quick bite of food. My husband and I have been here countless times, each time very good. This was no different. We came in around 3:45-4PM, and the place was nearly empty. There were a couple people posted at the bar, and maybe one other party in a booth. We were a party of 5 and promptly seated a 6-person table. AS we were sitting down, chips and salsa were delivered to our table. Nice timing! Soon after our drink orders came out. I really like this place because of it's laid-back atmosphere. The decorations are nice and hip, the music is Top 40 and you're not cramped into a tiny space. Despite the lack of customers in the restaurant, there was definitely a sense of urgency that I really liked. Less than 10 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived. I got the Fiesta salad, my husband ordered a combo, my friend ordered queso and fresh warmed tortillas and I forgot what the others ordered. Usually, as in 9 times out of 10, when I order salads from a Mexican place, it's shredded lettuce they put on their tacos and sides, and then topped off with other toppings from other menu items such as tomatoes, shredded cheese and ground beef. Meh. But not this salad! Freshly chopped romaine lettuce, not shredded! Fresh red onions, tomatoes, croutons and tortilla strips came together for a tasty refreshing salad. I had the option to add chicken or shrimp, but I declined. The salad was so good on its own that it doesn't need any meat fillers. It was the perfect amount too, not too little to leave me wanting more and not too big to make me hate myself for eating it all. I really enjoyed it. Throughout our late lunch/early dinner, our drinks were constantly refilled and the chips and salsa were refreshed when low. Service was very fast and attentive. Overall, everyone enjoyed their meal. No complaints. And very fairly priced. OH YEAH! If you check-in at this place on YELP you get a FREE MARGARITA!

Disgusting! This place has gone downhill over the years. So we didn't touch any of the food, and we were just going to leave. However, then I asked to be charged for something so that I could tip the waiter. And he proceeded to charge me for the two full beers left on the table. I will never be back!

This place was recommended by a friend. We decided to stop in on a weeknight for dinner. The service was very slow. My kids ordered simple cheese quesadillas and they looked unappetizing. My husband ordered a fajita burrito which was ice cold when it arrived at our table. I don't even recall what I ordered but I know it was mediocre at best. Now the margarita was good and the chips and salsa were also tasty. It seemed like everyone els was enjoying their food and service. It's a shame because we probably just had a bad server who let our food get cold. There are too many great places to eat near me to waste my money or time to eat here again.

My new choice for Mexican and close to home! The service was great, very attentive! The cheese dip was yummy, and my chips were hot and refilled quickly! I had a house margarita while waiting on my steak fajita...margarita was ok, steak fajita was plentiful and delish!! Only one con......steak needed more seasoning so I added a couple drops of Chula! I'll be back very soon!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
