If you're looking for the nostalgic experience of a time when food temps where not a concern then come on down! They served me a burger that had been pre-cooked and wasn't even sitting under a light. I will admit that they were kind enough to give it a couple of flips on the flat grill to warm it up. There's a much better diner experience just around the block.

Unique and unforgettable lunch experience. I'm new to Cartersville and I work on main street; so I knew nothing about 4-way but see the shack every day. My first visit was totally an adventure. I opened the door and was really surprised to find how small it is- like you were right in your aunt's kitchen. My waitress- and-chef-and-cashier-and-"aunt", ran errands in a very organized way. I ordered cobbler+ice cream to go because I had lunch, total $2.50 including 50 cents surcharge for take-away. Oh BTW, all the items are around 2 or 3 bucks. How was the cobbler? Heavenly good! Next time I'll definitely try their signature hot dogs and burgers. Be sure to check it out if you're around. I don't think they can handle groups but it will be fun to come with a couple of friends.

as others have pointed out, 4-way is both a cartersville tradition and a cartersville icon. walking in the door immediately transports you to an earlier time; a reminder made all too real by the rear entrance and two stools still in place in 'the back', used by african americans during the dark days of segregation. the menu has all the standard greasy diner classics, but i'd recommend you stick to the burgers, hot dogs, fries and cobbler (unless you're there for breakfast). as a sign inside will inform you 'this is not burger king. you don't get it 'your way'. you get it our way, or you don't get it at all". don't worry, despite the sign, the staff isn't rude. but i'd highly advise you to order your burger or dog 'all the way', as they say at 4-way. that means chili, mustard, and onion smothering your selection. you won't regret it while eating, though your stomach might a little later. but it's always worth it! there's a running rivalry in town between 4-way and ross's diner (just a few blocks away), as their menus and dining experiences are extremely similar. as any devotee of either establishment will tell you, though, one is certainly 'better' than the other. i highly recommend that you try both establishments and make your own judgment. for my money, ross's has a slight edge on 4-way.. but i'd never turn down a lunch invitation here.

Of you like the atmosphere of a 1950's counter eatery and hamburgers covered with chili you will love this place. Very friendly staff and faster than any fast food place you can go. They always get your order right the first time too.

Great lunch counter with only 8 seats and some friendly staff. Try the hotdog all the way with cheese and slaw.

A Cartersville institution, the 4 Way Lunch is a big red counter and a handfull of stools (thankfully with some elbow room). The lunch menu offers chili dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, steak sandwiches, a la carte chili, fries, rings and peach cobbler (not sure if they rotate menus with the cobbler of the day). The dogs are 1/4 pound, firm, red and tasty - just right. The chili, which has beans, tastes startlingly close to the Varsity (Atlanta's own institution), but grab a little salt and hot sauce to give it its own personality if you like. The mustard is robust without being overwhelming, but you might skip it if you want a good taste of the chili. The steak is country fried, with really thick gravy. With some salt, the gravy tastes like the "real deal" that this Georgia boy knows and loves (the cook suggested eating it with fries). The fries are medium thickness and extra wide. The staff knows all the locals, but treated me like a valued guest. The simple menu keeps the food moving quickly. For first-class local color, fast service and chili dogs that hold their own with the best, the 4 Way Lunch is a great choice.

The Four Way is a Cartersville tradition. Enjoy a country breakfast complete with sawmill gravy. For lunch its your choice of a hotdog, hamburger or chili slaw dog. They typically have cobbler too. Just don't plan to stay long as the restaurant only seats about 12 at the counter and there is ALWAYS a line.
