Part of the luxury of traveling around the country for work is dining in great places and meeting new people. Today, I am 2500 miles away from home, and I feel like I met a friend and had a memorable meal. Since I was traveling alone, I stopped in to grab something to go. I walked in and was greeted by a nice lady. I informed her that I was grabbing a To Go Order, and she went to get Craig. Craig came over and welcomed me. We started to chat, and I shared that I was from out of town and it was my first time at Sonny's. He told me he was from Northern CA, and I shared I am from San Diego. It was such a great conversation. During our discussion, he passionately shared how amazing the Ribs were. He offered me a sample rib, and like the flash, he zoomed to the kitchen window and asked the chef for a sample rib. I took a bite . . . BOOM!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Immediately, I wished that I had eaten every single one of my meals here at Sonny's, but since I leave tomorrow, I grabbed the Super Combo and an order of Corn Nuggets to go. Back at the hotel, I enjoyed my Super Combo. It was a great way to sample everything, and it's a TON of food. I highly recommend it. If you're in from out of town, or a local townie, and you haven't tried Sonny's Barbecue, I recommend you get there immediately. It will be a meal of great service, great food, and great prices. Ask for Craig's section, he'll take great care of you!! Thank you Craig, and thank you Sonny's! If I'm ever in town again, I'll be sure to return.

The BBQ is always good, Texas. Toast is great, and I've personally never liked their chicken. Best iced tea in town. One thing I've learned about this place is NEVER order take out. Always eat in. They are always happy to take something back to the kitchen provided you haven't eaten most of it! I've been here for 20 years and can only recall one mediocre meal. But plenty of bad take outs.

The following was written by my 22 year old son, who worships at the church of BBQ.......Easily the single greatest meal of my life, the all you can eat deal is INSANE, such a bargain, if I was on death row sonnys would be my last meal, i want them to cater my wedding, funeral, bar mitz fah ( Jk I'm not Jewish lol ) and every other major event in my life. I enjoyed the food so much I left my job as a well off sales rep for turkey by products to apply and hopefully gain employment by this fine establishment. My new life goal is to open up my own franchise of sonnys and bring it up north so those damn Yankees can learn a thing or two about some damn good bar b q. #ohRah

Good size portions and a nice selection of BBQ sauces. The ribs were tasty, service was attentive, I'll be back to sample more of the menu.

My husband and I ate at Sonny's when we stayed in Venice for a few months. We thought the food and the service was excellent. Will definitely go back next year.

This place looked like it was in need of a serious renovation. Some employees were extremely unprofessional and didn't even say hello when we walked in. That was rude, customer service is especially important when entering a restaurant. However, our waitress was really nice and accommodating. The food was COLD, could have been decent if it was hot. My pulled pork sandwich was mushy. Overall, they should probably fire the lazy and questionable employees they have working and hire people who have good communication skills. The atmosphere was uninviting, felt like Ponderosa (not a good thing). I have never wrote a bad review for a restaurant because I can usually always find something good to say. Maybe I'll try another location far away from Venice.

I was recently staying in Venice and walked over to Sonny's BBQ. I wasn't expecting much. I was hoping for a bar to have a beer and a sandwich and catch some weather or news. This place is a family style restaurant and was nice inside (no bar). First off the waitresses were friendly and helpful and hard working. There was a crowd here but I got my nice cold draft beer quickly. I was going to get a BBQ sandwich when I spotted the beef brisket sandwich. I got one and was blown away at how great the Brisket tasted. It had a great smokey flavor and was tender and not dry. It also wasn't half fat like at some places. I used the Smokin Sauce - hot and it had the perfect kick to set off my taste buds in overdrive. The food and service was so great - I walked back over before they closed and had another sandwich and beer. I had a different waitress and she was as friendly and great as the prior one. I saw peperoncini on the salad bar while walking to my table and asked if I could purchase a few for my sandwich. I was brought a bowl of them (no charge). This was the best food and service I ever had in a family style restaurant. The pulled pork BBQ is also great here. I was going to post the names of the 2 servers because they were so great - but I waited too long to post this and forgot - sorry about that. I sure am looking forward to visiting Sonny's when I'm back in Florida next. I've posted some photos of my food and beer

Seated quickly, hostess was accommodating, appearance of the restaurant is in need of an up date and a cleaning. Bathrooms are dilapidated, broken doors etc. Most importantly, our food, it arrived eventually, but the meats were cold. All you can eat ribs, dried out and cold, second plate, still cold. Sampler plate, 3 out of 4 meats dried out and cold, pork plate, cold. I wanted to say something to the management, but I never saw them. We didn't get a bill so I proceeded to wait at the register to pay. I over heard the cook ask a question, and her employee's reply was your the manager, you should know that. Over all, very disappointed. I gave it a one star, because this is the only time I have ever left a Sonny's, hungry. Our family, eats at Sonny's often, but not this location, and we will not be coming back. Save your time and money, go else where.

Do not go here. A waitress (Kim) works there and adds tips to the check. When you tell mgmt. they listen to the lies she tells, and let her keep working there, ripping people off. How much side money is she making, from people that don't pay attention. This is fraud and at the very least, should be fired! If you had her as a server, be sure to look at your check and your bill when it posts to your account!

This franchisee is in dire need of a corporate review and some heavy duty QA. While the customer service is exemplary during a recent phone order, the meal itself was disastrous. I ordered the pulled chicken and ribs combo plate but received pulled chicken and what appeared to be the longest cooked 1/2 chicken brick on the planet. Since I was already home with my take out order, we decided to grin and bear it. After giving up on the chicken brick, which must have suffered a long and neglected fate in the BBQ Pit, we turned to our pulled chicken and bit down on several bones. Nothing stunts an appetite like surprise bone shards. We attempted to try the "sidekicks", green beans with bacon and macaroni and cheese. The beans were inedible, as the bacon tasted a bit rancid, and putrefied the beans. The macaroni was our last great hope, and really, how can you screw up macaroni? This Sonny's created a passable macaroni, but needs to change it's cheese sauce, as the dish is closer to pasta with nacho cheese queso than true macaroni and cheese. In all, one star is generous, and only awarded due to the sunny disposition of the woman who took our order.

Salad bar had some old veggies mixed in with fresher veggies. Pulled pork was ok. Staff was nice. Exterior needs cleaning.

Great food. Signature burgers. I got Sonny's Steakhouse medium done with everything on it and a side of really well made fries. Although the fries did not taste fresh, meaning just fried from fresh cut potatoes. They tasted more like they were fried from frozen potatoes. Next, the burger patty was quite dry as it cooled. Overall, though, I'm satisfied with service and how everything tasted.

Found a cockroach in my corn nuggets appetizer. Pretty gross. When we told the manager he seemed pissed off at us, like it was our fault? Pretty lame. Won't come here again.

Stopped by one night for dinner with my family during our vacation, great decision. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, as well as humorous. Quick service and delicious food! Most definitely coming back when I'm back here again.

As you might guess from the mixed reviews, the quality of the food is uneven. My experience is that the closer to closing time you go in, the more likely you are to get meat that's dried out and chewy. In addition, they use combinations of spices that not everyone will enjoy. For example, the BBQ beans have a strange flavor that I don't like at all. But you may not agree. The dry-rubbed ribs are very salty, and all of the sauces are too sweet for my taste. But it's one of the few restaurants left that has a decent salad bar, so you might want to go just for that. A salad bar with a side of garlic bread is not a bad choice.
