Years Later... Still The Place To Be!. Since my last review of July, 2011, I'm usually sitting in the Valrico, Florida "New York Diner" at least once a week. Breakfast is always special, available anytime, and at a price that goes way back in time. Various items off the menu that I've tried have always been outstanding. And everyone... the owners, cooks, waitresses are as friendly as you'll find anywhere. The food is great, the people are great. It's fast become "The Place Where Everybody Knows Your Name."

It's a little spot in the Valrico neighborhood in no way does it compare to diners in New York. Basic toast and eggs nothing spectacular, I could cook and make everything on the menu.

  • Christopher R.

This diner is in an old Waffle House building and is decorated to look like a NY style diner. It's clean enough and the service is good. We had breakfast and had to wait a long time for our food but the food was great. The prices are good as are the portions. Will definitely come back again!

Your typical American Diner. Neat little place with an older crowd. Home cooked meals to the core. Don't expect frills or bells and whistles but do expect to sit down to a robust portion of your favorite breakfast or overstuffed sandwich with the pure flavors that bring you back to your youth. If you're looking for true Americana fare and attentive wait staff who are friendly and know how to please customers, you've found your match in this sweet little diner.

Great diner food. Breakfasts are awesome and fresh from the flat top griddle. Wait staff is friendly and atmosphere is laid back southern hospitality.

Best breakfast spot and for the best price. Husband and I take the kids here on Sunday mornings and it is so good. I normally get a breakfast sandwich, bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. Sooo good. Not a huge fan of their pancakes, though, tried my kids and didn't think they were all that good. kind of dense. Sunday mornings though, they are packed! Be prepared to wait.

I grew up in Philly and miss all of our diners. This place is the closest to diners up home...definitely worth the hard parking and wait. We love it here!

Stopped in for breakfast a friend said it was a good place. I have to say it was awesome the service was great the food was great. One of the best breakfast I had. We will be back to try the lunch.

This is a middling restaurant - kind of dirty, a little greasy, sort of tasty, and reasonably priced. I'll eat here again but my wife will not go near the place. The wait staff is about as friendly as you'd expect in a place nabbed after NY, which is to say not very.

  • Diane M.

Love this place. The staff and food are the best

  • Arturo R.

I would not come back here at all, the service was good, the only reason I'm giving this place the stars I've gave it, the place smells like a fried chicken joint! And the food was tasteless and burnt. I've dined at many Diners all over... And this place is terrible. Don't give me that, this is southern style cookin'.

My family has only eating here about 5 times and the food entrees we decided on ordering was delicious. I always order the Mozzarella sticks they are great to eat when your not that hungry for a big lunch or dinner. They offer soft drinks, coffee and tea also they offer outdoor seating if you choose to sit outside and enjoy the noise of the traffic on Highway 60. The staff from the waitresses are always nice and friendly when they welcome you to the Restaurant with a simple Hello or Hi welcome to the Diner. There isn't much places for breakfast type places if you want to sit down and actual enjoy eating your delicious entree with out seeing children running round or people talking loudly across tables. Before New York Diner moved in to this business setting it was a Waffle House before it was closed for a reason I do not know I guess it never had much business in the area because they had to deal with Burger King, Hardee's & McDonald's down the road. If your looking for a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner spot come here but keep in mind the Diner closes early in the afternoon.

Very good breakfast, good service and nice clean place. Will go back and try for lunch or dinner.

I'm a New Yorker, and my mother, who has transplanted from NYC, lives here in Brandon. THIS IS THE CLOSEST THING TO AN NYC DINER, BUT BETTER. the service is just as quick as an NYC spot, but much more polite :). the food is made quickly and comes out piping hot. the flavors are excellent. the same staff members have been working here since I've been coming down to visit my mom. do yourself a favor and come here for breakfast OFTEN.

    (5)
  • Rolando G.

Most bang for your buck$. Great family owned atmosphere with friendly staff that aim to please in any way possible. Great food for at fantastic price. By far my favorite place to eat breakfast. I love the hash browns well done & crispy, and the home made hand battered onion rings are a must. Go check them out.

My wife and I have been dinning here since they opened and love their food. I would recommend the New York Dinner to anyone that wants a good breakfast!!!

$5.99 Breakfast , includes a drink. Not a bad start to the day. Staff is friendly and once you are a regular they are your friends!

  • Joe C.

FAST! FRIENDLY! AND FANTASTIC! The service was amazing... and the food was really good... The food did not have that overly greasy taste you would expect to see from a diner. Seeing the kitchen staff work their organized chaos to get orders out was fun to watch. Highly recommended... The egg sandwich was awesome and made to order... to detail... Choices offered for bread and cheese for the egg sandwich was impressive... And the biscuits and gravy were homemade and recommended!

As of 3-16-2014, a 2 egg breakfast with Coffee is still 4.99 They plan to raise the price to 5.99 at the end of this month. Usually, it is so crowded you can't find a place to park, and must wait in line for a good while, while the senior citizens who eat here (because of the low prices) socialize, and take their good time at the tables, long after they have finished eating. If you are in a hurry to eat breakfast and get to work, leave very early, if you plan on eating here. The Breakfast is good to decent overall. Hey, you get what you pay for, right ? Their Bacon is pre cooked, then deep fried vs fried on the grill, and the Eggs they use are small. Their wheat toast is not whole grain bread, but their Hash Browns are good. I generally leave here still hungry, but hey, what do you want for only 4.99 including Coffee ? I am not complaining, especially for what it costs. Bens Family Restaurant right down the street from them charges 6.79 for the same breakfast w/o any coffee. However, Ben's gives you nearly twice as much Bacon, larger Eggs, and real whole grain bread. However, Ben's, and this place, are a bit skimpy on the hash browns, IMHO. I had a Ruben sandwich here last week, and it was very good. The service is always outstanding here, and very polite as well. Nice Owners too, who are there working, everyday.

  • Joshua T.

Second time here...very crowded, but got seated fairly quick. Noise is loud, but as diners go, you can still have a nice conversation. $4.99 breakfast... Two people can have an awesome meal for $10 and change. I couldn't find anything bad about the food, staff, or atmosphere. Everything was excellent!

    (5)
  • Sydney S.

This is a fabulous place! Fast service, clean environment, and great tasting good! Little joints like the diner always have the best food.

    (5)
  • Jason K.

What can I say, this place is great. $5.99 breakfast special is a solid deal. Two eggs, choice of meat, hash browns or home fries, toast and coffee. The coffee alone is almost $2 so again, great deal. Went for the fist time today on a Thursday at 10am and the place was slammed. We got lucky and found a spot at the counter. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Will defiantly aim to visit again although I'm afraid it will be mobbed on weekend mornings!

Good affordable breakfast I have never left hungry or with an empty wallet, service could be a little better that is the only reason I did not give five stars.

This is our favorite breakfast spot in Brandon/Valrico. The food is fresh, fast and always delicious. The staff is friendly and consistent. They do their best to get you in fast on busy weekend mornings when the line is out the door. The bagels are flown in from New York and are a definite must - we prefer the everything bagel. They are good as a side or in sandwich form. We've tried a lot of things on the menu but our usual go-to is the $4.99 anytime breakfast. It comes with eggs, breakfast meat, potatoes or grits, toast and a drink. It's an extra $1 for a bagel but who cares! The sausage gravy is delicious also so if you're a fan of country fried steak or biscuits and gravy it's also a good option. There's usually a lot of sausage in the mix. At some point I'll save room for a piece of Junior's Cheesecake but it hasn't happened yet. :-)

Two friends and I came here after going to the shooting range. I had never been here but they had. I have heard the breakfast here is awesome. I did not get the breakfast since it was more of lunch time. I got the Bacon Cheeseburger and it was delicious. The fries that came with it where also great. I was surprised by how good everything was. Everyone elses meals were good from what they said. I will definitely be coming here again. I would like to try the breakfast one time since everyone says it is good.

I Just love this place. Love the food, and the prices can not be beat. Staff are the best very friendly and the owners are always on site. We go 2-3 times a week.

First time visiting this place today. I didn't even know it existed. Varied menu items. Nice specials for the day. Very clean inside. Ample seating. It is an old waffle house building. Good parking. And when the lot gets full there's parking on street. People standing in line to get in as I was leaving. Everything was really good. The price was right. I definitely would go back.

Great little diner with good diner food. Cheap affordable prices, friendly staff and clean diner atmosphere. If you are in the neighborhood and want a nice diner style affordable breakfast, pop in and you will not be disappointed. The $4.99 breakfast is a great deal too if your looking for a regular eggs, meat and toast sort of meal.

  • Jacob M.

Excellent as always. Got the build your own breakfast sandwich. 2 eggs a huge sausage patty and your choice of cheese on a toasted bagel. Delicious. I love this place.

    (4)
  • John B.

mediocre food, incredibly overpriced and land. Staff was friendly and meal arrived promptly after ordering but overall experience was terrible. they charge 6 dollars for a pizza bagel that's simply has gross marinara and a slice of provolone cheese on top, disgusting! the roof was leaking water right on to the table and no one in the restaurant seem to notice

    (2)
  • Eric S.

I eat breakfast at the N.Y. Diner at least four days a week. They have great food at a reasonable price.

    (5)
  • Kimberly H.

Today I tried the patty melt, with Brian on the grill it was Delicious! The grilled rye was perfectly done! This is our go to every time! Looking for a new place to take visitors, you can't go wrong!

  • Rebecca K.

This place gets packed on the weekends! We decided to visit for our recovery meal after completing a half marathon on a Sunday morning. I ordered the reuben sandwich with fries. Also ordered was the southwest-style burger with fries. Both were greasy delicious and tasted pretty fresh. I love that they have steak fries. Service was very slow, so losing some points because we waited at least 20 minutes for our two sandwiches and another15 minutes for the server to bring us our check. Will visit again at a less busy time.

This place is great! My hubby & I discovered it a few weeks ago & now we go for breakfast every Sunday morning. Small diner, good & cheap food. Employees are friendly. Nice to have a small piece of NY in FL.

They delivered to my hotel- The Homewood Suites on Palm River Road. The meal was very good, you do have to have $20 minimum to get delivery though. My friend had the ribeye with fries and he said it was cooked perfectly. I had two fresh made bagels (they bake them before they deliver or when you order) and an onion and mushroom omlet. The fries were really good with the homeade steak sauce they give you so I actually ate all my friends fries and got full and saved my omlet for the morning, minus one bite :-) It reheated good even with the cheese ontop. It was a nice size omlet. I was dissapointed last week the driver didnt come in so I could not get delivery but they stop taking orders for delivery at like 9:45pm so call early.

  • Justin M.

this place is great. small mom and pop place and the food is awesome. check out the empire state sandwich. its a complete breakfast on a roll the size of your arm. the thing lasted me four days worth of breakfasts. just ate here for dinner and had the best damn turkey reuben I've ever had. highly recommend.

  • Megan S.

We both ordered breakfast and did not enjoy it at all. My eggs were overcooked, as was my husband's omelet. The pastrami he got in his omelet was also horrible. The homefries were lukewarm at best and undercooked. The bacon was alright. The chicken fingers and french fries from my child's meal was the best thing on the table. The service was excellent. The burgers brought to other tables looked good, but I don't think we will return. We also think it was overpriced for breakfast.

    (1)
  • Eric S.

Bagels are a bit pricey, but then again they're flown in from NY. Staff was great. Customers seem to be frequenters as most seemed to know each other on a first-name basis. I'm sure I'll be going back.

    (4)
  • Jeff C.

We were in last week, and they've started renovating the interior. They're still open, and the new owner is an experienced Diner guy from New England. Still looking for the new menu, though. They've published a new version, but no significant changes in the food. Of course, the food wasn't really a big issue there to begin with.

I would not come back here at all, the service was good, the only reason I'm giving this place the stars I've gave it, the place smells like a fried chicken joint!
