A little outdated place. Older iron chairs and commercial grade carpeted floors. But I am here for the food. Pho dac bet came out. Nothing dac bet about it. No meatballs, no tendons, no rare flanks. Soup broth was decent.

This is a run of the mill Vietnamese place. The decor is very basic and a little old looking. The place smelled great as we walked in. The service was fantastic. The food was good too. But honestly I have had better. Their spring roll options were great but other than that their Bun was just okay. Like I said I have had better but it certainly wasn't NOT tasty. The prices were fair. I would come here again possibly.

Amazing and just like mom used to make. We will continue to come back. The service was excellent and not rushed at all. The egg rolls were excellent as was dinner overall. If you're Vietnamese, you will not be disappointed. If you're not, do not expect them to cater to the American pallet. This is why I will continue to eat here!!

What a gem! Conveniently located in a strip mall along a busy street, this place is fantastic. I stopped in here for lunch on my way to Moffitt. It was 12:45 and the place was pretty empty, but by 1 there were several other diners. The server was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the lunch special of grilled pork and it was delicious. It came with a starter soup that I wasn't crazy about, and a spring roll that was excellent. The peanut sauce was the best I've ever had. I literally used a spoon to eat it! Haha. One thing to be aware of- they only want you to use a credit card if your minimum is $12, and this place is really inexpensive, so bring cash if you're dining alone.

I'm originally from Florida. My family is here, a few of my friends are here. And sometimes I'm here, too. So it's no surprise that while I'm stuck here, I'd go out and eat some food. My ex boyfriend told me about Trang's and I decided to see if he was right about it. I KINDA liked it. Kinda. Is it good? I dunno. Is it bad? Eh, not so much. The location is kind of hilarious to me. Oh, University Area I remember you fondly from my youth. You still manage to make East Oakland look like Club Med to me! I think the worst thing about Trang's is that it's near USF, so you get these pseudo-intellectual college kids bumming around in here talking about politics in hushed voices so as not to offend the causal diner. People in Florida...they're a little weird. So is the food here. It's good sometimes. Other times, I kinda want to puke it back up. But I decide not to do that because that means I'd probably have to taste it again. Their mock meats...I've had better. Wayyyyyyyyy WAYYY WAY WAY better. But as I said, this IS Tampa. People here don't really know any better and this is one of the few outright vegan options around. Once I had their vegan ginger chicken and I had to ask my carnivore friend about 80 times if she was sure it wasn't real chicken. It was THAT convincing. But the other day I had the vegan lemongrass chicken and it was stale-tasting and so packed with msg that I almost collapsed. They're for sure good with service, though. Damn, they're quick like ninja and very good about filling your glass up. As a Californian, I give Trang's 3 stars. As a Floridian, I have to give it 4 stars because at least they're trying.

I love the pork clay in a pot :-) The jasmine tea is amazing, and the atmosphere is quiet. Too bad I live in Georgia, or I would eat here all the time! And the rotisserie chicken (which isn't real chicken) was excellent!!

A very nice Vietnamese restaurant. I like their affordable lunch specials which offers lots of options and includes appetizer and soup. Pork in a clay pot is yummy, their pho is good and the service is always very nice and friendly, they remember you when you come again. A must try!

The standard to which I hold all other Vietnamese places I have ever been to. I first went to Little Saigon off Armenia back in the 90's with an exgirlfrend and found out there was a place on Fowler closer to where I usually lurk....I literally have never been disappointed, except for twice; when they took a particular peice of art off the wall, and no Banh Mi. Trifling,I admit. BUT - the pho special is my true comfort food, and only Mom does food that makes me feel like Trang's Pho. I will embarass myself and others by lifting the bowl to my lips to get the last of that broth out. I even went vegan there (gasp!) and had the vegan happy pancake....My laws, it was good! Mr. Trang and some member of his family are almost always there, and they are super nice. Service is quick, attentive and on point. The atmosphere is typical strip mall restaurant, but just keep your eye on the food (if you can keep your eyes from rolling back in your head from orgasmic palate pleasure). Why are you still reading this? GO THERE NOW!

i was so excited to find another eatery to add to my list of places to eat when i'm in town. being a vegetarian, it's challenging to eat in tampa, but i'm find it less & less so - this place being one of the reasons! the food here is very good. my favorite thing on the menu is the veggie ginger chik'n. i get it with noodles instead of rice and it's perfect. hubby loves the veggie lemongrass chick'n noodle bowl.

Quite easily one of the best restaurants in Tampa. Excellent pho, fresh spring and summer rolls, herbs from their home garden. Regulars know to overlook the slightly odd ambience, it will fade away when the cock sauce finds your broth.

Vegan Paradise! - Trang has quickly become one of my favorite dinner spots for both dinner dates and nights out with my vegetarian/vegan friends. While the atmosphere is a little bland and the location slightly out of the way for me (but very convenient for USF students) I always find it well worth the trip. They have pages and pages of vegan entrees and an array of mock meats. Some of the meats are eerily close to their real life counterparts (the fake pork in the vegan wonton soup, for example) but all are tasty meals. Theres enough variety on their menu that you can go a long, long time without repeating an entree.

The Tampa Bay area is severely lacking in vegetarian options, much less vegan ones, and this place was a pleasant surprise. We made the hike from St. Pete and it was worth it. The decor leaves much to be desired, but the flavors are delish and the prices are AWESOME. We pigged out--two appetizers, two entrees, two (vegan!) cheesecakes, and a coffee--all for about $36. Unbelievable. My husband got the vegan "pork" which he loved. I had vegan pho which was pretty good, though nothing to write home about. Lots of good vegetables though. We had some spring rolls (the fresh kind) with vegan "pork" in them which were delicious, and the papaya salad was good too. We were given a non-vegan salad by mistake which we nearly ate. It looked "off" so we asked and they quickly corrected the error. The desserts were awesome and very affordable as well. Overall, a very good value.

This is one of the better lunch places (they also serve dinner, but it seems the place is most popular for lunch) on Fowler Avenue. They have a nice lunch menu ranging from vietnamese soups to rotisserie chicken (my favorite). All lunch dishes come with a summer roll (you can also have a winter roll (has some tasty sausage in it) for a few cents more) and a small soup. The soups are great and vary from day-to-day. The interior is standard, but they tried to make things look nice with plants between the tables, and a decent background music selection (often some soft jazz or light classical music). The prices are on the lower end of the scale, i.e. the place offers excellent value (what would we do without hard working, self-exploiting immigrants?!).

When I first visited Trang 6 years ago, I unfairly decided to never go back after a traumatizing experience (not associated with Trang). Luckily I decided to go back a couple years ago, and it is now my favorite Vietnamese food in Tampa. The steamed pork buns are AMAZING! They have half a boiled egg in them, and the dough is slightly sweet. They are also huge, and one comes with the lunch combos if you request it. The pho is also on point here. The broth can either make or break pho, and Trang makes a very flavorful broth. Lastly, the mung bean pudding is my go-to dessert here. It is sweet bean pudding topped with a lightly sweet tapioca pudding, and the two complement each other perfectly! Definitely try Trang if you like Vietnamese food and are really hungry (large portions for most dishes).

After a full day of chasing pirates through the streets of Tampa, I was looking for a quiet place to relax and have a nice dinner. My travels took me north up towards USF, and that's where I found Trang Viet Cuisine, located along Fowler Avenue. Trang can be found in a small strip mall just to the east of MD Oriental Market by less than a mile. Trang is very popular with the local crowd, and the owners warmly greet everyone as they enter the restaurant. The food here is Vietnamese, but it is much more than just pho and banh mi sandwiches. Nope, this is home-styled cooking with lots of traditional Vietnamese food with vegetarian and vegan dishes. They had a lot of different styles of Vietnamese seasonal rolls, steamed buns, chicken wings, squid and mussels for appetizers, along with papaya salad, bean thread salad, and seafood salad to name a few. Yes they also had the traditional beef pho, chicken pho, hot pot soups, and Southern Vietnamese soup with roast pork, squid, and shrimp. Many of the entrée selections were new to me, but I saw lots of interesting dishes that would be fun to come back and try on a future visit. Whole fish was available grilled, fried, steamed, cooked in a clay pot, and fondue style, with countless other options for seafood, beef, pork, chicken. and vegetarian. I opted for a small bowl of traditional beef pho which was seasoned with cinnamon for something different. For my main entrée I had Vietnamese-style beef stew (Bo Kho) which had big chunks of beef, carrots, other vegetables, and rice noodles in a very herbaceous broth. It was really delicious, and perfect for a cool Florida evening. There are plenty of interesting dishes to go back and try, but next time I'm taking my Vietnamese expert and her sister to help navigate the menu and recommend some other yummy dishes.

At least once a year, I fly into Tampa on my way to Zephyrhills. By the time Chris and I arrived, we were hungry -- really hungry. So, we headed to Loving Hut. Unfortunately, though, Loving Hut was closed this day and I really wanted a vegan meal before heading to a non-vegan-friendly place. We hit Yelp and found Trang Viet Cuisine and I'm so glad we did! Trang Viet Cuisine is a family-owned Vietnamese restaurant that has been in business for nearly 20 years. It is not a 100% vegan restaurant, but it is incredibly vegan friendly boasting four pages of vegan options to choose from! I was so excited. The walls of the dining room are adorned with pictures of flowers and beautiful green trees are placed throughout the dining room. It is a very casual place that you could feel comfortable wearing whatever. The vegetarian menu clearly indicates if items are vegan and our waiter was able to answer any questions we had. I found it so hard to choose! With 11 vegan appetizers, eight vegan salads, nine vegan soups, and over 20 vegan entrees, it is like a vegan paradise. We started with an order of the spring rolls, which were filled with imitation meat and sweet potatoes fried in a spring roll shell. They were delicious. We also tried the Southern Vietnamese Rolls filled with shredded tofu, potatoes and imitation pork wrapped with fresh herbs in rice paper. These rolls had so much flavor and were so much better than the typical spring roll you'd get in a regular Vietnamese restaurant. I was very impressed. For my entree, I ordered the V35 -- Vegan Lemongrass Beef Noodles (Bun Bo Sa Ot), but instead of noodles, I had rice. This was vegan beef sauteed with lemongrass and onions served over rice. I also requested that they add other vegetables so they added some broccoli for me. The vegan beef had a nice texture and the sauce was very good. They also made it super spicy for me. That said, Chris' entree was my favorite of the night. He ordered the V48 -- Vegan Central Vietnamese Noodles (Mi Quang). We didn't realize that this was basically an entree-sized soup, but regardless, it was amazing. The yellow rice noodles were topped with imitation meats, rice crackers, peanuts, and scallions. The broth was incredible as there was so much flavor. Unfortunately, we did not have room for dessert as we were very full by the end of the meal. The service was great, the food was fantastic, and the prices were extremely low at only $9.50 for each entree. I can see why Trang Viet Cuisine has been in business for so long. I can't wait to come back for more. Thanks for a great experience!

They have several yummy vegan and vegetarian menu items all for a great price! I also love that they have a junior pho that you can order for an appetizer! I was being adventurous and tried the house special beef stew with French bread-- a dish I was dying to try when I was in Southeast Asia but couldn't find. I didn't love it as much as I love pho. It was sweet and the French bread wasn't the best. My husband ordered a combo noodle plate that was also only okay. Our junior pho was fantastic and our steamed bun was good but a little dry and a little on the sweet side. Definitely westernized Vietnamese cuisine.

I've been on a search for a good meal that reminded me of home for a solid year now. And at trang, I found it. Quality food, great portion, and overall a wonderful experience. Many Vietnamese restaurants in this area lack what they have, and that is simply the whole hearted, "this is how my mother made it" goal for dishes. Fresh vegetables, not too salty, not too much, and no msg headaches afterwards. Plus, the iced coffee with milk here IS THE ONLY PLACE, I REPEAT, ONLY PLACE in the USF area that makes it how it should be. Drip chicory coffee with sweet condensed milk and 2 glasses, with the other containing ice. When I saw that come out my heart became warm in excitement. However there are some downsides. 1. Location - very hard to spot from the main road and I feel like that is why they don't have too many customers coming around in comparison to other places, which leads to 2. Price- I paid 13 dollars for one meal. Was it worth it? God yes, but I feel like if the location was better, they could have more customers = more reasonable prices. I'll be back for more.

This place was so amazing! We had the beef Pho and it was delicious. The service was also excellent. We were greeted and seated very quickly, and water was at our table before we could even ask. Overall, we had an awesome experience. I don't usually write reviews but the servers (owners?) were just so sweet and attentive and the food was so delicious that I felt I had to share my experience with anyone thinking about going to Trang Viet Cuisine. Highly recommended!

The pho is nothing special and actually a bit subpar even though it's perfectly fine and tasty. It's just nothing special. The veg main courses we had didn't really wow me either. I think they could be a lot more creative with the ingredients. Just seemed pretty basic. But.. the fish soup was AMAZINGLY good. The veg spring roll was excellent and very crispy. The other veg fresh rolls (we had all four seasons) were tasty and came with good sauces (one for each). The servers are friendly even if it we had to flag them down when we wanted anything. I think this is a cool place and you just have to experiment a bit until you figure out what to order. They offer a veg buffet but it is only once a month and ONLY FOR DINNER after 5:30 p.m.

I've been dining at Trang for over 7 years. It's one of favorite restaurants with the nicest employees . The vegan/vegetarian menu is extensive ,delicious , and well priced . Over the years I've tried a lot of their items. My favorite is the vegan ginger chicken. Good ratio of vegan chicken to salad and rice. I could eat this everyday! The strawberry cheesecake is a must! Summer rolls , springs rolls , steamed buns, soups , vegan beef are all good items that will impress your mouth. Try it! Fyi, the monthly buffet is so worth it. $14 for ice tea, soup , spring rolls , carrot cake , and several entrees . All vegan!

Went here for my dad's birthday dinner and I was NOT let down! We went super early and from the outside it looked intimidating and I was afraid of awkward air, but it isn't anything like that at all. Music was playing very softly, the service was AMAZING. Even though we were early for dinner and there weren't a lot of customers the air was filled with the single server (who I presume is the owner) talking and making everyone laugh with his humor! The food felt authentic, it was on the level of my grandma's cooking, which is saying a lot. Unlike most places I've been to, there are seasonal rolls as opposed to just the traditional spring roll. I recommend the winter and autumn rolls as they were almost heavenly. I would differently eat here again..and again.

  • Cameron G.

My food at Trang was pretty good. I ordered several appetizers and a vegan stew. The appetizers -- one of almost every roll they have -- were good. However, the entree was a little underwhelming. I'm not sure exactly why I didn't like it. Overall, I plan to return. My rolls sprint, summer, fall, and winter rolls were good. Most importantly, Vietnamese food is a refreshing change to ordinary food. Even at 3 stars, it's worth eating to mix things up.

One of my favorite restaurants in the area :) run by an incredibly friendly family...who can make DELICIOUS food!!! My favorite is the Emperor's Coat...it's a rice dish with meats and veggies coated by a fried egg...YUM. Everything i've had is wonderful. I highly suggest checking this place out!!!

Oh my god so good. Just finished my first order from here, lunch special beef and rice with beef noodle soup and a summer roll, and there is so much flavor. I want to go back for dinner, desert, then breakfast. YUM. And so affordable and the man I spoke with was incredibly nice.

Was a little skeptical when I walked in for lunch as the appearance from the outside seems less appealing than I would normally frequent, but the food and presentation was solid. I would return. I only had the summer rolls and chicken pho but I would highly recommend both.

  • Lauren G.

Great service! No wait, seated immediately and server was very attentive. The peanut dipping sauce was one of the best I've had with summer rolls. Steamed dumplings were delicious and a perfect appetizer for 2 people. The reason I must give 4 stars is the dumplings had paper on them that was not easily seen, but easily bitten. Junior Pho was the perfect size to quench my craving yet small enough to leave room for my meal. Everything we ordered was fresh and excellent overall. Must order: Heo Kho To (pork in a clay pot) was the best tasting dish I've ordered from any vietnamese restaurant in this area.

Passing through Tampa on our way to Ft. Myers, we made an effort to stop at Trang Viet because we found out about their vegan menu. We loved it so much that we had to go back on the way home too! There are 59 vegan dishes on the menu, plus all desserts are vegan. It is truly a veg paradise that could only be made better by ditching the animals all together. Almost everyone around us was eating vegan, so I think they do a lot of veg business. Between our two visits, we had the 4 Seasons platter (Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter rolls with different dipping sauces), wonton soup, sour soup, summer salad, gyoza, vegetable soup, happy pancake, smoked "pork," noodle pancake, curry "chicken" stew, rum chocolate cheesecake, taro in coconut tapioca pudding, combination bean dessert, and mung bean pudding. I thought the Winter roll was the best but my partner most liked the summer rolls. The wonton soup and the sour soup were both really good and the vegetable soup, stuffed full of watercress, was delicious! The smoked pork dish was good, but does not have any veggies in it, so I ordered the summer salad to eat along side. My partner swooned over the happy pancake-- a traditional Vietnamese pancake served with abundant fresh herbs, bean sprouts, and lettuce. The noodle pancake was a delicious fried rice noodle nest topped with mixed veggies and "beef" in a salty sauce. The rum cheescake was good-- thick and creamy texture, but the taro in coconut tapioca was KILLER! Wow! On the lower end of the spectrum were the gyoza- bland and disappointing, the curry chicken stew was good but not what we were expecting so it disappointed us, and the mixed bean dessert was not nearly as good as the others I have tried-- it employed canned kidney beans instead of sweetened beans, the jellies were sparse and not flavorful, and there was not enough coconut flavor or sweetness. All in all, though, great food. Abundant choices. I wish we had been able to go to the vegan buffet they have every second Saturday. Maybe the next time we pass through...

My man and I were cruising around Tampa when we came across this gem. We both had their lunch special which luckily had vegetarian options for their appetizers, soups, and entrees! The tofu soup was steamy, his vegan roll was pure crunchy goodness, my role came with a peanut sauce that was delicious. Then for the entree I had veggies, tofu, and jasmine rice crafted to perfection. My man love his savory fried rice with tofu. Strongly recommend for the traveling vegan/vegetarian with a Asian craven!

Some of the best authentic dine-in vietnamese food I've had in a long time! I had their lunch special of the beef soup with freshly toasted mini loaves of bread. Enjoyed every savory moment. Can't wait to come back again!

Fairly good overall. They have a large number of vegetarian options among other things. I especially love their many roll options. You could probable just live off them and forget the rest of the menu. Just as a word of advice, I didn't translated the vegetarian shredded pork properly in my head. Keep in mind that it's supposed to mimic fried pork shreds that are part of traditional Vietnamese food. I completely forgot when I ordered it and was in for a surprise.

I would have not heard about this little hidden place if it wasn't for a good friend. We had a lunch date here after we were both out if work and class shockingly it was dead. I had to ask if they were open to make sure. It may not be the busiest of place but the food was good. I did find that service was a bit slow but the waitress was helpful as I was choosing my meal plan. I started with their stuffed chicken wings and it was surprisingly good. It's a very unique concept that I've only seen done once so I was excited to try it. It's also a very time consuming technique but it was very tasty and I enjoyed it very much. I also tried their papaya salad which I wasn't as pleased. For my meal I had their grilled pork and rice combination. There's a good amount of food to share! It also comes with an egg side and vegetables. I also had a bite of their emperor's coat combination fried rice which tasted average. It was a cute presentation as an thin egg covered the fried rice similar to omurice. This place is actually pretty large inside. There's enough room for larger parties if anyone is wondering. They have a huge menu so it's friendly for everyone especially for any vegan/vegetarians. I would come back to try their vegetarian dishes.

  • Amy P.

I'm not sure why anyone would eat here. I was completely unimpressed. First off, the food is just mediocre. The pho had chicken bones and gristle in it. The wonton soup was teeny tiny and the wontons lacked any flavor. The combination rice was okay. BUT it was $11 and very, very small. Ridiculously actually. Plus it was super hot and muggy in this place. Go to pho quyen on hillsborough. Great food, big servings, and cheap!!

Ate at Trang Viet Cuisine last night for the first time, and found it to be very good. We started off with some Summer Rolls, and they were very fresh, with freshly cut crisp vegetables and good peanut sauce for dipping. My girlfriend had the Lemongrass Chicken, and I had Pork in a Clay Pot. Both meals were very good... my Pork was very tender and delicious, probably the best I have had. We had hot tea with the meal, and it was very relaxing and tasty... and our host was very attentive to keeping both our water glasses and the tea pot full. We seldom do desserts, but I knew my girlfriend had never had Viet style Fried Banana, and she loves bananas... so I ordered one to share. It was wonderful... batter fried bananas served with coconut infused Tapioca pearls. My girlfriend states she has a new Favorite dessert! lol! I highly recommend Trang Viet Cuisine. The restaurant has a few flaws (water stains on the ceiling and carpet from leaks for instance) but it was clean, and nicely decorated... and the service and food are very good!

Been to Trang many many times for dinner. Generally with my husband and daughter, we order solely off the vegetarian menu. My husband just goes down the list and picks a new item every time. He's not a vegetarian, yet he LOVES everything he has tried on the menu. LOVE the rolld, especially the one that comes with the peanut sauce, can't remember which season it is off hand. LOVE the pumpkin vegetable soup as an appetizer as well. LOVE the ginger imitation beef, ginger imitation chicken and imitation pepper steak with greens. Food is there to nourish us, unfortunately that is not often the case, but at Trangs it is! Oh and the service is very friendly as well. The buffet, though we don't go often, is supposed to happen twice a month now, but call for details. Definitely try this place, its amazing, delicious, healthy food!

Our first visit here in our continuing search for a good Vietnamese restaurant. Good atmosphere and the decor is pleasant. The food is average at best. The spring rolls were tasteless and mushy, my bowl of Pho was ok but didn't excite me and my wife had chicken with lemongrass and rice and this dish did not look nor taste appealing - it was bland. I am not sure if we will be back - I doubt it.

Got to try the monthly vegan buffet that Trang puts on during the second Saturday of every month. Very impressive. $14 gets you the buffet, drinks, dessert, and it covers the tax and tip. For drinks they had water and some honey ginger green tea, then they had about two rolls, a soup, and 5-6 entrees to choose from. It doesn't sound like a lot, but we were able to fill up two good plates and were definitely stuffed by the time we were done without being bored Definitely recommend it.

I love Trang! This place is always good. There are about 1.8 MILLION vegetarian and vegan options on the menu from Imitation Curry Chicken to Vegan steamed buns! I'm not an expert on Vietnamese food, but if you go in expecting a good meal, veg or omni, this will deliver. Service is fast (there's only one server and then the family) and always friendly. The decor is way 90's - can anybody say pink and teal blinds, but the food is why you come to Trang. The lunch special is killer, $6.50 for soup of the day, appetizer and one of about 20 options (veg and omni) but full price meals aren't terribly expensive. I ate at Trang before I was a vegetarian and I used to love the Pork in a Clay Pot and the regular steamed buns too. Trang also has a great selection of deserts. They have vegan carrot cake and a couple flavors of vegan cheesecake as well as this deep-fried banana concoction that I love. The banana is wrapped first in a layer of coconut, then a spring roll shell, deep-fried, then topped with tapioca pearls in a coconut sauce. Try: Vegan Spring Rolls with a side of Peanut Sauce Vegan Steamed Buns Vegan Curry Chicken Pork in a Clay Pot

dont be fooled by the exterior and the fact that this place is located in a stripmall. best vegan options around-- probably 40 or so items on the menu. had the vegan stuffed buns which were a perfect appetizer portion. vegan curry amd rice was on point. brother (meat eater) had the beef broth soup and lapped up the entire bowl. would go back in a heartbeat.

Heard that Trang is vegetarian friendly, so thought I would give it a try. Happy about that decision! I ordered the Pho with Chicken (real), and at first was a little put off with the cinnamon flavor in the broth. Never had it that way before. But continued to eat it, and my palate began to ignore the cinnamon, so eventually liked the soup. Not the best Pho I've had, but still hits the spot. I also tried an appetizer off the extensive vegetarian menu - fried pastry with cabbage and "meat". Now that was tasty. I'd go back just for that. Sweet and "meaty" and cabbagy. Delish! I would like to go back to try meals off their vegetarian menu. Probably won't order the Pho from here again, though.

We went here for lunch today, and I was very pleased. Plenty of vegetarian and non-veg choices. The food was very fresh, balanced and good. The lunch special was great! $6.50 per person for a cup of soup, a spring or summer roll and a main course. I had stir fried rice noodles with fresh veggies & vegan beef. Very good, especially when I mixed a little peanut sauce in with the noodles. Service was very friendly and accomodating. My only complaint is that the dining room is very bare, and feels like you are eating in the strip-mall store that occupied the space previously. But the food was worth it!

I'd heard good things about this place by Creative Loafing so I decided to check it out. Going to University of Tampa, Fowler is a bit of a stretch for me to go, but I didn't know of any other nearby Vietnamese places besides Bamboozle. I'm not sure if it was just my GPS, but I had to go AROUND the complex in order to get in. Like others have said, the decor is pretty drab but once again you're there for the food not the scenery. I started off with stuffed chicken wings (2 of them) served with fish sauce for I think $6.95 and they were fried and stuffed with I think pork and shrimp. The portion was reasonable and it reminded me of paper-fried chicken (very crispy Chinese fried chicken)...but I tasted a lot more of the stuffing than the chicken. They didn't have Thai Tea on the menu but my friend ordered it ($3.50) and they made it for him. We ordered the medium bowl of pho (I got it with all the fixings, tripe, intenstines, etc but I was a little disappointed because there wasn't a lot of meatballs or organs) with the beef on the side (so we control how it was cooked). Add some sriracha and some hoisin and we were done. Apparently they're incredibly vegetarian/vegan friendly (going so far as to have a separate section devoted to it). I bought my friend vegan summer rolls (imitation ground pork I believe) and she said it was good, don't know what it tastes like though. I checked the lunch specials and they're a pretty good value with most of them being under $8. This is definitely a place to check out...maybe try the pickled lemonade next time.

It's an okay place. It's definitely not 5 stars, I am afraid. I won't speak for vegan dishes, but since I've been to VietNam and had the pho, as well as Vietnamese roommate in college days who cooked pho - pho is my thing. The spring rolls were okay - not great, not bad. A bit dry, though. I usually order without pork. Not sure if that maybe a factor, but the shrimp should still be juicy. The pho was about average. Definitely not the best in Tampa - that honor goes to Pho Quyen, especially the one on Hillsborough Ave. While the bean sprouts and mint leaves were served, the soup just did not have that 'oomph' factor that you would expect from a good pho. I dropped by again to see if it was a one off thing, but again, the soup was less than stellar. I don't remember if the soup was a bit oily/greasy, as well. Well, it maybe the best Vietnamese near Fowler, but certainly not in Tampa.

This is one of the best (well, in my limited exposure) Vietnamese restaurants around Tampa. It's a "mom n pop" kind of joint with the same feel. It's family run, I believe. I do know that the gentleman who owns it does two things right for sure: gives you a free meal on your birthday and grows his own herbs for use in the restaurant. The decor is a little K-Mart, but you're there for the food...not the elegance. It's very vegan friendly, so if that's up your alley, then you've found a great spot. It's also not that well known really considering it is one of the best in town, but it's never been very busy every time I've gone. Normally I'd say that's a bad sign. Not in this case. It's called convenient. I definitely agree that it's rather interesting to be near University Mall...but I eat and run. I rarely have to dodge bullets. Rarely. OH, and if you've had your fill of this delectable cuisine, you can head across the street (run if you're wearing a bullet-proof vest or drive thereby increasing your odds of not dying) to Baskin Robbins! Ok, ok, before the Chamber of Commerce for Tampa comes knocking on my door...I should mention the neighborhood's not THAT bad. It's not like they're firing 9 mm shells or anything. Just .22's. That's all college kids can afford!

Probably my favorite restaurant in Tampa. DO NOT go on Saturday evenings though. You may be tempted when you read the little "vegan buffet" sign. What they don't tell you is the people sponsoring it are the lamest, weirdest hippies ever. And you are required to wear a nametag. And they want to talk to you. One dude had feathers in his hair and was eating with his hands. Like...scooping up rice with his hands. I don't fucking know.

Trang Viet has a friendly staff and nice open seating. There is so much vegan food I'm often overwhelmed by the sheer number of options. I love the different spring and summer rolls. Sometimes the options are a little dry so I usually stick with something with "stew" in the name so I now it will be saucy! I don't know how they make all these different fake meats but yum. I usually go with meat eaters and they're all satisfied too. The sometimes dry options is the only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars.

Okay, we went because we got a recommendation from the guy at the International Boba House. When we left, I couldn't figure out why I hadn't seen this place recommended by Yelpers when I was looking for Vietnamese in Tampa. Everyone else is raving or ranting about the vegan stuff, which didn't excite me. I still have no idea what the vegan menu is like, because we were seduced by the meat selections. The review on the wall claims that it's the favorite Vietnamese restaurant of the guy who owns Columbia, and also the (former?) mayor of Tampa. I can believe that. I've eaten Vietnamese food in L.A. and Orange County (CA), and this place would have stood up to the comparison. There were pages and pages of photographs and descriptions to pore through. The only dish we had that I wasn't thrilled by was the "Emperor's Coat" (a deluxe fried rice covered with an egg omelet "crepe"). The owner was happy to halve the Four Seasons appetizer (usually it's two each of the Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter rolls) for us - each with its own sauce. The Spring Roll was just good, but the Summer Roll was an excellent version of the usual, and the Autumn and Winter Rolls were unusual and knock your socks off yum. (Okay, so I wasn't wearing socks to begin with. Allow me a little poetic license, here!) We also got the smoked pork appetizer portion (so good that I wanted to lick the sauce off the plate at the end), a cup of sour fish soup (which my husband adored), and the owner suggested the fried squid. He just asked that we make sure to compare it to the fried squid at other restaurants in the future. No problem - very, very nice fried squid, with a very delicate batter, fried until *just* done. Perfect. Saved room for dessert, were torn between the banana cake and fried banana, and got the latter because the owner recommended it. ZOMG yes! A banana, wrapped in the same skin as the Spring Roll, deep fried, sliced into five pieces, topped with coconut milk with clear tapioca and toasted coconut bits (and maybe peanuts, I can't remember because I'm just too enthralled to have retained every detail). Yum yum yum yum yum. Yum.

I've been eating here for over a decade now. The food is always tasty and they are consistent in meal prep and service. This has become one of my favorite restaurants in town. Despite living in South Tampa or in Pinellas, I've found myself drawn to the USF area just to eat at this restaurant. The menu is extensive and has a ton of vegetarian/vegan options. The vegan curry stew is AWESOME (and I'm not vegan). I also suggest the lemongrass chicken (or the vegetarian version for the herbivores out there). Also, I always like to start with the vegetarian summer rolls-- they are awesome in the sauce with a little sriracha mixed in. The only thing I've ever had here that I regretted was a mung bean shake, I believe. That one sounds obvious, though.

This is a superb choice for lunch or dinner for vegetarians. My three companions and myself each tasted each others entrees and rank them so: 1. Fish in a Clay Pot. - The group favorite. The fish is slightly breaded and simply melts in your mouth. 2. Tofu and Imitation Pork Curry - An extremely close second. The style is certainly Indian/Pakistani, but with a singular flair. The imitation meat is second to none. 3. Beef Stew - Probably not a popular dish for diners who would just assume microwave a can of Campbell's, but Trang's version ranks among the best I've ever had. 4. The Emperor's Coat - A superb example of a rice dish with morsels of meat steamed underneath an egg. After dinner, one simply must try the Vietnamese Coffee. A French influenced beverage with condensed milk sitting on the bottom. Stir vigorously and enjoy. This is as good as it gets for Vietnamese Cuisine.

I just want to review the veggie/vegan menu. A friend wanted Viet for lunch and wanted Pho Quyen. Being vegan I checked their menu and found it seriously lacking for options. Instead, we hit Trang. They have a 4 or 5 page menu full of items, many labeled vegan. I had vegan spring rolls and vegan beef with ginger and scallion. Both were hot, flavorful and cheap. I left full and also enjoyed my pickled lemonade. If you are veg, don't pass this place up. One star lost for so-so ambiance and the waiter did mess up an item for my companion. That happens everywhere though.

I live close to this place, and I like I don't have to drive far for pho. No, it's not necessarily the most flavorful broth (it's flavorful. Done), but it hits the spot when I've been wanting pho but don't want to drive all the way out for it.

Ask any Tampanian with a love for Vietnamese cuisine (or with nostalgic vegetarian leanings) where to eat and Trang will be the answer. I am not a fan of this place for the ambiance or service - it's the food. Always a satisfying treat. The family grows beautifully lush mint, basil, green onions, lettuces, and more behind their strip mall restaurant. They offer a Traditional Vietnamese Menu and a Vegan Menu with various vegetarian proteins and desserts. I always order the Vegan Curry Stew, Autumn Rolls, and the Happy Pancake. This place was pretty good, the old decor kind of throws you off at first but give it a try. Great pho for a rainy day. Definitely not the best but this opened my eyes to Pho as I tried it first here. Spring rolls here were my favorite.

Some of my favorite vegan food in Tampa. I have eaten here numerous times over the years and rarely have left feeling unsatisfied. I usually start with a vegan steamed bun that is sort of like a cloud of dough surrounding imitation meat and potatoes (which are real). Today for a main course I enjoyed the tofu and rice noodle soup. Big chunks of carrots, tofu and textured vegetable protein work with the noodles for a filling soup. To end it all, I suggest the vegan carrot cake. A bit dense (so don't compare it to a fluffier dairy version) but great nonetheless. My Trang Viet motto: Go for the steamed buns, stay for the vegan carrot cake.

Enjoyed a fabulous 3 corse vegan meal after Bush Gardens. There are 4 pages of vegetarian specials including appetizers and salads which are usually very hard to order vegan. I loved that they had do many choices of mock proteins including pork, fish and beef. The very personable owner who was also our server mentioned they also do a vegan dinner buffet one Saturday a month which I can't wait to try.

I'm not too impressed..I grew up eating Vietnamese food, and although the food isn't bad it's not something I would seek out for an enjoyable meal. I'm non-vegetarian so I can't comment on the vegetarian dishes, but it's very clear that most of the crowd the menu caters and pleases are vegetarians. I was surprised to see such an extensive selection of vegetarian dishes, however, as a NON-vegetarian I was disappointed with my non-vegetarian dishes. Meat portions are very scant, almost absent sometimes that it's laughable - the prices just don't quite justify the value in that aspect. We had ordered pork spring rolls that literally had 2 super thin slices of 2 cm length pieces of meat. The dishes are significantly Americanized, which is understandable but it's disappointing how far they've taken it that it takes away the savory authentic taste of Vietnamese cuisine - I wish they made it so that dishes may be customized for authenticity (or lack of). I've had Pho, which was OK..meat was lacking & all the best aspects of the soup were substituted with "Americanized" versions such as the cut meats - no beef tendon or tripe here! There was also some vegetables that are traditionally used but aren't offered here either. Bun Bo Hue, another noodle soup dish tasted like it was flavored from a can which I'm about 90% sure it was bc traditionally the dish comes with pork feet and they don't offer it. I understand that it's a business and that they don't have much of a demand for it because most of their patrons are not Vietnamese, which is a shame. However, I would say that this restaurant is a great place to introduce Vietnamese food to someone who's reticent about trying it or just wants to dip a toe in for a mild taste. I only stop by here because I periodically have to come by the area and don't want to drive a distance for a meal when this is along my way. Otherwise, I would generally go to Pho Quyen for great authentic Vietnamese food, perfect portions, and great value for the food (although Trang Viet's service can't be beat!). Service staff is excellent here - they could definitely teach Pho Quyen a thing or two about service! They're very attentive and welcoming, and for that I gave them an extra star. One of the staff members actually reminds me of my dad, but a more personable and friendlier version of him, lol.

My sister and I went on a Wednesday night. Not crowded. Wait staff was very gentle and sweet. Decor could use some updating. Menu was long and there were many choices. We had PHO-it was delicious. We also tried the 5 roll appetizer. All the accoutrement made the meal very special. This is a gem. Location is a bit sketchy but well worth the trip.

We have been going here for many years, and the food has always been exceptional. They have an extensive vegetarian menu, although we don't eat just vegetarian. I love the Pho especially, as well as fish in clay pot, beef salad, curry, and many other. Great rolls. One of my favorite restaurants in Tampa.

I tried this place today with my dad and brother. Dad and I got the wonton soup which was pretty good, and I also got some fried spring rolls with pork and sweet potato in them. My brother got pho. We all liked the dishes a lot, and the owners are very nice. I was happy to see that there are lots of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu, so next time I go I'll try some of them. We'll definitely come back.

A very good Viet restaurant, almost at my 4-star level as best of class (Viet) A bright, sunny, very clean dining hall with extensive menu and alert service. On first visit, we got take-out, which was quickly prepared and nicely boxed, as we were offered a seat and water as we waited....also reviewing the beer/wine list with nice v. Also noted a wide selection of vegan dishes with a vegan buffet monthly. We ordered a sampler selection of spring/egg rolls, coconut pork, a bowl of beef (basic) pho, stir-fried veggies/pork and chocolate/rum cheese cake. The rolls were as good as I have found anywhere, freshly made and the fried ones done in new oil. The pho broth was the most richly flavored I have had, despite the to-go portion being rather modest even with all the standard herb/sprout/beef side condiments. The dessert was extremely authentic Viet rum, I am sure. This is a repeat place.

I didn't really sample the menu as much as I'd liked, I'm still a little scared of the fake meat as a vegetarian lol! My roomie and I got the basic pho. I loved that you could taste the cinnamon. All I added was a bit of the hoisin and siracha and soy sauce and I was good to go. I liked it a lot and can't wait to come back, once I'm a little bit braver lol

Order a nice big bowl of Pho or 'noodle soup' with meat or fish to start your 'Vietnamese eating adventure at this very good restaurant. It is served perfectly with mung bean sprouts, fresh basil, and lime on the side. As an appetizer it will feed 2, or eat all this deliciousness yourself :) Decor... It's in a strip mall, with tacky furniture, but the menu is massive with something for everyone! Mid range prices, but the portions for most menu items are large. Nem Ran or Cha Gio (fried spring roll) was excellent. We had the meat and vegan option. Vegan got a big thumbs up from the entire table! Will head back when we visit Tampa

I am a vegan woman who has lived in the Tampa Bay Area since birth, but in the city proper since Aug 2013. I met a vegetarian man and he recommended Trang for our first date. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. The service was prompt. I chose the vegan noodle stir fry, which was delicious! Their vegetarian menu is 4 pages long, and most of it is vegan. Aside from one fully vegan restaurant I occasionally go to, I've never seen a place with so many vegan options. I would gladly eat at Trang again.

I'm sad to say, Viet Trang is no longer good. This used to be one of our favorite Asian restaurants in Tampa. The quality is still fairly good. However, the food portions have gradually gotten smaller through the years. Tonight, we were very also disappointed that the recipe for the Fried Calamari appetizer had changed. There wasn't as much breading on the calamari, and the taste was rather bland, in contrast to the delicious spices they used in the past. Our Winter Rolls were supposed to have shrimp inside, but there definitely wasn't any. We inquired about that, and the owner told us the shrimp is ground up, so we would barely taste it. Huh? I ordered an entree of char-grilled shrimp and beef, served with Jasmine rice. It was very tasty. But the 5 shrimp were very tiny (probably 30-count sized), and the whole entree only had about 4 ounces of beef. My wife ordered Seafood Combo soup, which was a bit too salty. But the main problem again, is the portions were too small. To be fair, Viet Trang's prices don't appear to have increased in several years. It seems they compensated by reducing the portions across-the-board by about 1/3rd. If you are on a severe diet, or are easily satiated, this is the place for you.

Wen't there looking at the review but highly disappointed. Poor service, poor food and small quantity. If I want to try Vienamese/Chinese food there are better restaurants around for Pho and Fried Rice/Lo Mein. There was hardly any meat in the food and maybe worth 4 dollars and not 12.

Lunch prices are awesome and service is great. The food is really very tasty as well, but the restaurant's pink and baby-blue decor make you feel like you are dining at a baby shower. I would definitely recommend the lunch specials if you are in the area.

Firstly in as much as I like this place. It uses too much sodium in their food. The buns were moist and tasty and the ground tofu roll was good however the salt content is disturbing. We ordered ginger chicken and black pepper beef. Came with rice but there was practically a teaspoon of gravy to enjoy our rice in and again the salt content is too much. We were so thirsty after the meal and it lasted for a few hrs.

What a nice surprise this place was! I honestly wasn't expecting much from the strip mall Vietnamese joint but that changed upon walking in. We rolled in quite close to closing which I didn't realize until after ordering but the staff made no mention, didn't rush us and offered excellent help to navigate their huge menu. Only after our food arrived did they mention closing time and even then we were told to please take our time and enjoy but to note the kitchen was closing in case we wanted anything else. Now, their food... Anyone who knows me knows I am a wee bit crazy for pho so that's of course where I turned my attention first. Looking at their soup choices I was saddened by the lack of pho chay but lo, they have an incredibly extensive veg menu! I tried the crispy rolls with sweet potato and ordered the vegan pho. Amazing. The broth was light and flavorful and the bowl was packed with veggies and rice noodles. Yum. After dinner we chatted briefly with the server about how good everything was and I complimented him on the veg selection. He just smiled and talked about how glad they are to offer those options so that I could enjoy my meal. A++ I've heard that the owner grows his own herbs to use here which only further illustrates their commitment to quality food and excellent service. If I lived in Tampa I would practically live in this restaurant and would you blame me?

So far, best vietnamese food I've had in town. As an appetizer I had the vegan spring roll. It was obviously freshly made and filled with sweet potatoes. I had my doubts at first (I mean...vegan??? ), but my friend convinced me that it was one of the best dishes on the menu and she was right! I had the spicy beef and pork noodle dish (which is a noodle soup). The broth was flavorful and not too spicy. I also tried my friend's Pho Tai. The flavor of the broth was a bit too salty/flavorful than what I prefer, but overall it was a good dish. I tried a bit of the dishes of my 5 other friends and everything tasted fantastic! Loved the food here. I plan on making this my regular go to place when I have a hankering for vietnamese food!

By luck we drove past Trang on our recent trip to Tampa. For dinner that night we went there and had a lovely dinner. The owner, Tang, was our host and waiter. We enjoyed a light dinner and particularly enjoyed the appetizers which were spring rolls with sweet potato and bits of pork. Our main dish was a type of omelet with shrimp and various veggies. Dessert was a fried banana. This fried banana was amazing. Think sweet coconut cream and tiny tapioca pearls drizzled over a lightly coated fried banana. Yummy!

So far on my quest for good pho in Tampa Trang Viet Cuisine bottoms out the mix. This is by far the worst and most insulting pho I've had, not just in Tampa, but anywhere. I see all the 5 star reviews and most of them are about the vegetarian food so I guess I should have figured. That or the fact this place is about as cheesy as a 1980's Weekend At Bernie's Themed dining room with hipster white kids running the show. For appetizers I had the Steamed Buns which were probably the only just ok thing I tried. They were too floury though and the egg inside was far overcooked. The attempt was nice, the flavor was aimed in the right direction, but the over all execution failed. They were pale tasting and pale looking. Served two on a plain white plate with no garnish. Even more disappointing they still had some sort of wax paper still stuck to the bottom of each of them that when removed ripped off the bottom of the bun. Miserable. I also tried the Spring Rolls. These are standard along my journey for good Vietnamese food in this city and these people really screwed the pooch. I'm not sure how because the inside might have tasted nice if the outside wasn't a) burnt and b) cooked in some sort of unjustifiably dirty oil resembling that of what I can only assume was Freddy Krueger's sweat. The pho was just disgusting. I've had bad pho but it was always edible. This wasn't. This was rancid. The broth was sour as if it were old or the stock was made with old bones, not sure which but gross. The meat was tough and clearly just boiled. The noodles were old and hard, also with a rather rancid, sour, ten day old flavor. For condiments all they had was the overly salty, cheap Hoison sauce and some standard red bottle green top cock sauce. Miserable again. I know this is a harsh review and it seems like that's all I've given lately but come on Tampa Vietnamese... step it up. Your homeland would be ashamed of the crap you are trying to pawn off as "authentic".

Visited Trang this weekend in the search for Vegan food of any kind in the Tampa/St. Pete area. Trang showed up on Happy Cow as vegetarian friendly. what an understatement! They had several menu pages of Vegan options! We started with the four-seasons rolls. The spring rolls were fantastic and the summer rolls were very good. The sauces were great too. We had several different vegan dishes, all fantastic. I had the ginger beef and then came back the next day and had the Vegan stew. Both were unbelievable. They use small amounts of imitation meats and instead highlight very fresh vegetables and homegrown herbs and spices. Everyone enjoyed their food immensely and the servers and chef were as friendly as can be. One of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had. This place needs to be highlighted as a top rate Vegan and Vegetarian restaurant.

Okay, I ate here on my way out of Tampa recently. We heard good things from local friends of ours, particularly about vegan offerings. We were not disappointed. The vegan menu is roughly 2-3 pages long. Quite the selection. We went in time for the lunch special and it is one helluva value. For $6.50 plus tax you get one of select menu options, an appetizer and a bowl of soup. I had the vegan chicken curry. In addition to the vegan chicken, it also included yummy tofu. There are vegan appetizer and soup options for your sides as well. I had the vegan spring roll and it was absolutely amazing. I wish I could say more about the other offerings, but I've only dined here the one time and probably won't be able to again for another year. Good marks in my book though.

What can I say the ingredients are very healthy and fresh with many options for the meat eaters, seafood lovers, vegetarians, and vegans! I had the chicken in the claypot with green beans, a very delicious pepperish like broth which you can literally drink on its own as a soup. Plus the spring rolls are very fresh and light, also loved the stuffed chicken wings, yum!

The mock meats on the extensive vegan menu are delicious. My favorite is the vegan lemongrass chicken, though central Vietnamese noodles with an assortment of mock meats are also high on my list, as are all of their rolls (spring, summer, autumn and winter). Oh, why was I born with only one stomach? I'll share their secret with you: the family who own Trang Viet Cuisine grow many of their own herbs at home, since that's the only way to find consistently high-quality herbs not ordinarily grown near Tampa. This will be my first review, as I plan to try it again. I don't know how my opinion could be so off from everyone elses.' First off, the prices at this place cannot be beat! Food - I will need to order something different next time. I got the chicken in clay pot, chicken soup and the vegan summer roll. The vegan summer role was not very good. I have had summer rolls at other places that are far better and the dipping sauce far more authentic. The chicken soup was lack luster and had thick rice noodles in it. The noodles were not cooked very well and basically took over the entire dish. My main dish was alright. It was just chicken with green beans. It was cooked well but just seemed off with the jasmine rice. Maybe the chicken should be eaten by itself or with some sort of sauce. It was not very good in my opinion. Restaurant interior is basic. Just tables upon tables and simple table clothes. I will review this place again as I typically agree with fellow yelpers and am surprised that my experience was so off.

Food was good but the service was off. The pho broth did not quite mature as I would have hoped while the beef and seasonings "cooked" in my bowl. Maybe it needed more pepper and onions. I will probably try again but hope to get more luck in finding better items and receiving more attentive service.

Trang Viet Cuisine is a quality and fairly priced Vietnamese restaurant, which also has a large vegetarian menu and lunch menu. I ordered the Curry Chicken Stew from the lunch menu (for $7.50) and it was delicious. The stew was filling with plenty of tender chicken, carrots, and potatoes and it came with a soup and summer roll. Overall Trang Viet Cuisine is a good option for a flavorful, filling, and fairly priced lunch and worth a visit if you enjoy Vietnamese food.

The chicken pho was very flavorful. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The waiters were nice and attentive!

Best Pho in Tampa! The people are friendly and the food is absolutely delicious. I always get the steamed buns and Pho Super Special.

Delicious food and delightful people. An extensive menu, and a delight for vegetarian fare. The food is fresh, tasty, and a good value. It's been 8 years since I lived in Tampa and I still crave so many items from this place and eat here whenever I visit. Trang is a wonderful person and a most gracious host. This place is truly a gem.
