I am a regular at this location. They lunch hibachi is a very good deal. I also enjoy some of their rolls, even though I never liked sushi before coming here and to their sister location Crazy Cafe.

Fast friendly service. Totally surprised at the freshness of the sushi in such a stripmall like setting. Best dumplings we've had in awhile. Highly recommend the tuna and beef tataki appetizers

Always pleased with whatever I order! Got take out for a ladies night a while back and it was great. Hubby & son are not sushi lovers but they like the habachi or tempura at Sushi Cafe. Works perfectly do my daughters & I can get our sushi fix!

VERY good! The service was wonderful and accommodating and the sushi was excellent. I got four rolls to get a good taste of as much as possible and took some home with me, because there was no way I could finish all of it. I got the crazy roll, the house roll, rainbow roll, and the diablo roll. The best one was the diablo roll. I highly recommend it. I would go back.

It was good Rock and Roll wrapped in seaweed...It was amazing We had a cucumber roll called the Sakura roll. It was wrapped in cucumber it was SO DAMN GOOD. Diablo Roll.... Absolutely delicious. The to go order for 4 rolls was $34.00... What a great price for 4 sushi rolls. They were all delicious. I am already craving sushi again.... I cant wait to order take out again. Highly recommend. Work right by there so figured I would give it a try. The place is small but nice and clean. It was busy but we got served relatively quickly. Waitress was very nice. My friend got the stir fry combo, and he said it was delicious. It did look very good and portion was good, not too small or too much. I ordered Miso soup a Rainbow roll. Miso was as expected (hard to screw that up unless they salt it too much). The rainbow roll was also as expected. Didn't blow me out of the water either. Fish on top was cut relatively thin, which took away from roll. With that said, I will probably go back and will update when I do, as I will try something different.

Today was my 5th visit to sushi cafe and it's consistent with its portion size and quality. They do not skimp on the ingredients inside rolls. (Just the right amount of rice) This is my favorite sushi place for basic rolls. I can get that fix for a decent price! I like the salmon roll and I add avocado and creme cheese with spicy mayo. The staff is always very accommodating! When I didn't see my favorite roll on the menu I asked if they would make it for me and they have done so each visit! One thing to note my first visit I noticed they have paper and pencils to write your order but it seems like no one ever uses them. The service has always been very quick and polite.

Sushi Cafe is like the Sam's Club of Tampa Sushi. I say this because the prices are a bit higher than some of the other places around but they make up for that with larger portion sizes. These are the biggest sushi rolls I've ever seen. We visited the cafe on a Friday night. The place was packed. We waited for only a few minutes before the servers found a spot for us. We poured over the menu and weren't completely in love with the vegetarian/vegan options. A large number of their rolls had cream cheese in them. I don't know if Sushi Cafe has stock in a cream cheese company or not but based on the menu it certainly seemed like it. As far as I could tell, Sushi Cafe didn't even offer our go to roll, Sweet Potato Tempura. They did offer a sweet potato roll with Salmon on top, so I asked for one of those sans the salmon. Unfortunately removing the fish didn't bring the price down any so it was the most expensive sweet potato roll I've had. We also ordered an avocado roll and some miso soup. Aside from the size, seriously this sweet potato roll was like the Big Mac of sushi rolls, what stuck out to me about the Sushi Cafe's version of the Sweet Potato Tempura Roll is that they tempuraed the whole thing. Typically places just batter and fry the sweet potato. While this was cool and all, I felt like it masked the sweet potato flavor. This meant the complimentary sweet, of the sweet potato, and salty, of the soy sauce, flavors that I love were dulled considerably. The avocado roll was fine, nothing really stood out about it (aside from the size). The waiter that we had on our visit was awesome. He chatted us up, even though the place was packed, and answered all the questions we had about the menu. He acted extremely interested in our substitutions and the reasons behind them. He also made sure to check in after the sushi arrived to make sure that everything was right. My overall impression of Sushi Cafe is that it is sushi for the American diet. Its a place that sacrifices taste in order to increase portion sizes. Eli N.'s review suggested it was a gateway sushi restaurant, a good place for people who are just learning to like sushi. I think that guy was right on with his assessment.

Great location, great prices, friendly staff, delicious sushi! Finally a place to eat delicious sushi that does not cost over $10. Most sushi range from $5 to $9. And they are really good! Miso soup $1.95 - really good. Gyoza $4.95 (with veggies and meat, really good). We also tried Tampa Bay Roll with tempura red snapper (cooked), cream cheese, avocado and eel sauce - delicious! Another yummy roll was Eel & Cucumber Roll, and one of my favorites is Bagel Roll with smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber. Will definitely come back. Looking forward to try more.

Great prices for yummy sushi and hibachi! My favorite sushi and the one I get almost every single time is the Osaka, which I like having either with yum yum sauce or spicy mayo. Would definitely recommend it to a friend!

Sushi Cafe has always been a great stop for my frequent sushi fixes! They have a wide variety of sushi/rolls as well as lunch/dinner meals. What sets Sushi Cafe apart from other sushi stops are the much larger sizes and amount of ingredients packed into each roll. I ordered two rolls and it kept me full the whole day. I ate around 3pm and had nothing else before or afterwards! It fulfilled my appetite because two rolls were literally all I needed for one day. My latest visit I ordered the Diablo and Osaka rolls, both of which were deep-fried awesomeness. Both also has "spicy sauce" but it really wasn't that spicy so don't be afraid to try something called "Diablo". The fish tasted great, nice crunchiness in both rolls, and a satisfying amount of ingredients in each. I liked the Diablo better because it had a stronger kick and the Osaka had a little too much cream cheese for me. Their menu can be overwhelming at first because of the number of options, but there are descriptions for each roll so it all depends on how simple or extravagant one desires. They don't skimp out on anything in their rolls that I've noticed in other sushi places. Their fried green tea ice cream is also always a bonus! I would also recommend the Diablo roll and Monster roll.

Favorite sushi in Tampa! Get the monster roll! Wonderful customer service. Servers were very friendly. Sushi was made fast and fresh. Great place for sushi! There is bad parking just because of their location in a strip mall and it is a tiny restaurant but I always end up sitting at the sushi bar.

I don't have much to say about this place, honestly. Staff was nice, restaurant was small, quiet, and clean, and the sushi was good. It was fresh and tasty, but I'm admittedly pretty picky when it comes to sushi and I've had better at Sushi Haru and Takara, which is right up the road. I wish them success, but Takara still gets my sushi business in the Tampa Palms area!

I have been here a few times. The menu is the same as Crazy Cafe, and I suspect the restaurant are related. Much like Crazy Cafe, the food is delicious and the service is just as good. For the price, it can't be beat. I have tried a lot of the different rolls they offer, and I am seldom disappointed.

What a great find after a half day of medical appointments. We originally were headed to an all you can eat Sushi spot to fill the gargantuan eating habits of my teen, but thankfully there was a 30 minute wait and......teens don't wait. On to Sushi Cafe. First thing I noticed was the great and appreciative service. Multiple people came by to assure that we had placed our drink orders and did not have any menu questions. When we did place our order, we opted to pick multiple things and share. We started with the Hibachi Chicken which came out piping hot and full of flavor, with both fried rice and lo mein noodles. Next we moved onto the Sweet Potato Roll which was a cross between a philly roll and sweet potato casserole, but it really worked well and was my clear favorite. Next, my predictable teen ordered the Philadelphia Roll, which was very well done. Then he added a Rock n Roll which was fantastic, although I am not sure what is in it. Our server was Fritz and he was terrific, so ask for him if you go. He was helpful, pleasant and funny. Delightful spot we just stumbled upon.

The best sushi spot in New Tampa. We go at least once a week and have never been disappointed. The sushi is super fresh. I always get the salmon and tuna sushi and my husband loves the yellowtail. If you order any sushi you automatically get either a miso soup or salad, both are great. We also have some rolls that we love there: the monster roll is probably their most popular and it is always good. The bagel roll is great and super fresh too. We have never had a roll we didn't enjoy. The hibachi plates are delicious too. Steak and shrimp are the best IMO and make sure to ask for the special yum yum sauce. Mix it in the hibachi plate with some soy sauce and it is perfect :). Service is always friendly and the restaurant is really clean. Prices are VERY reasonable. I highly recommend Sushi Cafe.

Oh North Tampa. How I loathe the. How you consistently fail to please me. My first clue should have been the name. My friend who lives up there suggested the place. I wish my hunger wasn't stronger than my better sense at this time. Tiny place, the usual tacky decorations you'd find in a restaurant in a shopping plaza in North Tampa. I knew better than to order sushi at this place. My friend stood by the hibachi, so she ordered chicken, I ordered steak. How could you possibly screw that up right? The lettuce on my ginger salad was disgusting, as was the dressing. Miso seemed to be sitting for a while - not fresh. Half my plate was rice and noodles. Little to no vegetables. The streak portion was large, but for $17 I would have rather had a smaller portion, better steak. I could taste the horrible quality - so I covered it in Yum Yum Sauce. Limited Sake selection. Usual beers you'd find at any Japanese restaurant. Plenty of wine choices. Please note - they don't cook it in front of you at this place. all-in-all... bad.

Our family LOVES this place! This is our go-to for sushi. I would say we'd be regulars considering we end up here at least once or twice a month. The service is always great and the sushi is delicious! And the fact that a bowl of soup comes with every roll is awesome! We've never had any of the hot dishes so I can't speak for those, but def get the sushi rolls and seaweed salad. Our faves are the Spicy Tuna, Dynamite Roll, California Roll, and the Diablo roll.

We stopped here to eat because we wanted some Japanese food and I remember driving by it a few times. I thought it was going to be one of those fast food Japanese places that wasn't super good and probably going to make me sick. Little did I know, it wasn't that at all. We went during lunch. I had a hibatchi chicken, which came with tons of delicious veggies and noodles. My boyfriend had the sushi lunch and really enjoyed it. Both came with a soup and salad. This place is excellent if you are craving Japanese and don't want to pay a super expensive amount for it (think about teppanyaki places!)

Fresh, simple sushi, just the way I like it! I haven't eaten inside the restaurant, but it looks really cute. Kind of like a small sushi cafe from a big city. The staff is friendly, and I appreciate that they listen to small requests, like extra wasabi. Good portion sizes, and yummy sushi options.

Love, love this place!! I just wish I still worked in the area so that I could go here more often. I know good sushi and this is it! Anytime I know I am going to be in the area I try to schedule this place in. Try it for yourself and you decide.

I'm giving this 5-stars because I ate off 4 different sushi rolls and they were AMAZING! I would suggest avoiding the clear soup. It was like you'd get at most Japanese restaurants, yet it tasted very fishy. Three of us ordered it and none of us finished it. It was quite yucky. Then again, it's not called Soup Cafe!

My favorite sushi place in Tampa. Very fresh and tasty sushi. Also very friendly service. I love the Ocean Blue roll. If you eat in the restaurant, they give you a free soup or salad!

This place was delicious! Huge selection of sushi and great prices. We are new to the area and are so glad we found Sushi Cafe. This will be our go-to sushi place from now on. Ask for John as your server, he was so kind, friendly and just made our dining experience even more pleasant!

  • Eli N.

Okay sushi. Very friendly service. The restaurant itself was well decorated and clean. Followed the yelp reviews here expecting the best sushi in the area, but was a little disappointed. The price and portions are fair, but the execution was middling. Went there twice this week just to be sure. On my first visit I ordered Miyazaki, Osaka and Green dragon. Then on my 2nd visit Pink lady, Monster roll and Pacific Blue. The issue is that they rely too much on cheap flavoring like spicy mayo and eel sauce which smothered my Monster and Pacific rolls. They also overuse frying and cream cheese. Their sushi dishes seem to lack freshness and balance. I still give them a 4 for having a great atmosphere and great customer service. I think it's a great place to introduce sushi to someone, but veteran sushi lovers may be more cynical.

This place is small but has a nice punch. It's very well decorated and has a nice, calming feel to it. I ordered the Butterfly roll and the Monster roll and was very impressed. I didn't care for the ginger side salad as much, but the spicy rice soup was delicious. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!

Great sushi and not overpriced like so many other sushi places. Really great service and atmosphere. Give it a try.

THE GYOZA IS TO DIE FOR!!!!! You get about 8 dumplings which is awesome because most places you get a mingy 4-6 to feed a family of ants. The sushi is alright. We had the crunch roll and another one with a complicated name.... Both were pretty good, but the spicy mayo is not spicy and it tastes like regular out of the jar mayo (no bueno). Would go back and try some other stuff!

The owner is very friendly and the service is great. This is the best sushi place in the New Tampa area. Great place to hangout with friends.

A small restaurant, but well decorated. Sushi offerings are pretty extensive- I think my favorite that I had this night was the sweet potato and cream cheese roll! Ahi tuna appetizer was good as well- super thin slices which I really liked. Prices are reasonable for the specialty rolls. Service is good.

Amazing sushi! Great staff! Moved from Orlando and looked high and low for a sushi place and boy are we happy that found this place!

  • Adrian M.

LOVE this place for its food - fresh delicious rolls that come to your table fairly quickly & beautifully presented! Best of all, this place is pretty easy on your wallet as well :-) Avoid the dinner time rush on the weekends though, it can get very busy & crowded with long wait times.

    (5)
  • Joseph A.

Ok sushi place, nice staff. I liked the butterfly and also the soft shell crab roll. The appetizers are good too. If stay away from the hibachi, they are cooked in the back and it's just ok. The sushi is priced well but the hibachi is not worth it. Since when did sushi have cream cheese in it? I hate cream cheese and so many of the sushi choices contain cream cheese!

Went on a Friday night and it was packed. Sat at the sushi bar and waited a long time for our meal to come. Sushi was delicious though and worth the wait. Will be coming back!

Very nice interior, with just the right mix of modern and traditional. The water/mildew stains on the ceiling detracted a bit from the ambiance, however. The agedashi tofu appetizer was extremely tasty. It is probably my favorite version of it I have had in Tampa. It pushed this from a three-star review up to a four. I will hold off on reviewing the sushi rolls overall, since I have only had two so far. The butterfly roll was a little too chewy for my preferences, but my enjoyment of Krab-with-a-K based rolls tends to be hit or miss no matter where I go. The Ocean Blue roll was really enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it to others -- warm and filling with a good flavor balance. If you are in the area, be sure to give this place a try.

  • H P.

Pleasantly surprised with this place, which belies the exterior facade. Sushi was rolled nice and tight, fish was fresh, and overall was tasty. Started off with veggie tempura, miso soup, and salad which were all typical fare. Then ordered the green Dragon, soft shell crab, spicy conch and cucumber, and the red rose rolls which were all very good, with the red rose and green Dragon being are favorite ( we've had better soft shell crab in New York and the spicy conch and cucumber had a limited though fresh flavor profile). Definitely will add this as a go to place if we're in the area.

  • Jason C.

I've been here a few times. Overall, it's pretty decent but nothing too exciting. I think that it's relatively in the same price range as other restaurants in the area and the only sushi place right next door to the movie theater. I usually only go there if I'm going to the movies as well. I do warn folks that sometimes it can take a while to get your sushi. Also, their water tastes weird sometimes, so I advise getting other beverages.

They are awesome! Great prices. Best fried rice in town. I am in love with the crab Rangoon at sushi cafe, I always get them when I go. The staff is so helpful and friendly, I haven't had a bad experience yet in over 20 visits. The sushi tastes fresh, and they don't mind if you have special requests on how to make your sushi.

awesome atmosphere great food i had the rock and roll (tampura shrimp), cali roll, and the cold roll(wrapped in cucumber had salmon and crab in side) ill definitely be ordering that one again my husband had the chefs special fried rice has shrimp chicken and beef in it that was really good too. service was great and fast no complaints on my end i will definitely be returning.

If it wasn't for a recommendation from an associate of mine at work I would have never thought to come here. Sushi Cafe is in a strip mall next to a mattress company and Panera Bread, but this place is the real deal. I had a delicious meal of steamed dumplings, four pieces of sushi, a roll that was arranged like a flower (aww), and everything was perfectly delicious. Service was fast and efficient and before I left a woman (the owner I believe) came over to ask how I found out about this place and what I thought about the meal. What did I think? Reasonable prices, fresh fish, artful arrangements of the rolls, and they offer brown rice...what is there to complain about? I'll definitely be back the next time I'm working in Tampa.

  • Stephanie S.

My family and I are once a week regulars. Staff is friendly. Space is clean and neat decor given the strip mall... Kids chicken is actually really awesome for a "kids meal"; great portion and freshly made. Seaweed salad is a large portion and has cucumber underneath. Yum. I order my own roll so often that I should just say the Emma roll. Highly recommend the miso, the lobster roll, salmon sushi.

Delicious! Great service and their hand rolls (temakis) are very well done!! Great spot before going to see a flick at Muvico right around the corner.

I've heard good stuff about this place so I figured I'd give it a try. I ordered the caterpillar roll to go. It was yummy. I don't know how crazy I was about the seaweed on top, so that's why I'm giving 4 stars. There was too much on there considering its a small roll. It's hard to find sushi places who use high quality ingredients and I must say that the sushi here did taste fresh so kudos for that. Overall I would visit them again.

  • Sean M.

The rolls are very good, the portions plentiful, the prices are quite reasonable. Only quibble is the use of surimi in more of the rolls I would like to try, but I don't like surimi. Service is very good, the full meals are excellent, the salad and soup also quite good. Recommended for New Tampa folks tired of the chain restaurants.

This place is absolutely amazing!! Greatest sushi place around here! The prices are amazing! The food is amazing! The service is exceptionally amazing! Theres also great food for people who don't like sushi. This place actually made me fall in love with sushi. Im always here whenever i can be.

Love this place! Great quality sushi! I had the Sakura Roll, Crunch Roll and the Rock in Roll. All rolls were excellent. Also the "Small Plates" are perfect for young children. The only draw back are that the prices are a little more than other sushi places in the area. Although you do get what you pay for with high quality fresh sushi.

I am writing this as someone who has lived in the San Francisco area for the last 20 years, and has just recently moved here. The only other sushi place I tried in Tampa was well-rated, but I was very disappointed. This place was awesome. Not only by comparison, but I'd have gone there if it was back in California, too. When I go to a new sushi place, I like to try several different types of sushi to get a feel for the place, so I ordered the Chirashi. It included maguro tuna, salmon, yellow tail, krab, asparagus, white fish, and white tuna. Everything in the bowl was fresh and tasty. The texture was perfect, the seasoning was light (they weren't trying to cover anything up). My only complaint would be that they didn't serve it with ginger, but that was easy enough to ask for, and really not something I think speaks to the quality of the place. Once I did get the ginger, it was good. I'll definitely be back.

Great new sushi place in New Tampa next to the Panera Bread. We went around 3 and ordered their Monster Roll and Spicy Tuna roll and it was delicious! The presentation was gorge and the sushi chef even gave us a sample half roll of whatever he felt like making-so cool! =) Their sushi pieces are pretty big...not so big you can't fit in your mouth, but to the point where I was pretty much full after the sample roll which was like 5 pieces! Our waitress was very friendly and inviting knowing it was our first time there, and it left a nice first impression to this outing. I recommend trying this place out and trying their delicious sushi yourself! Overall, Very trendy, nicely decorated, and good vibe all around. Sushi was fairly priced for how big their sushi is =)

One of the best sushi places in the area!!! Very unique selection of rolls, always fresh ,really big portions, taste excellent!!! Small plates are wonderful for kids, and good selections too. Service is very good. The prices are a little more, but you definitely get your money's worth

We've eaten here four times already and we have never been disappointed with the freshness and quality of the food. Service is quick and pleasant, and you don't have to pay over $10 a roll for good sushi! Definitely reasonably priced.

The Sushi Cafe is awesome. The sushi is fresh, the portions are generous, and there are a wide range of interesting rolls to choose from. We haven't had a roll we didn't like, but our favorites are the sakura, Hawaii and, for tempura rolls, the diablo. They also serve excellent hibachi (not cooked at the tables), so it's a great place for a sushiholic like me to bring the non-sushi-eating family. Plus, the ambience is calming and the staff are super friendly. The Sushi Cafe quickly became our favorite sushi restaurant from our first visit.
