This place is way too expensive for what it us. $11 for a burger and they want to charge you .99 cents for a side.

I did not really care for the ribs. I thought everything was too expensive for what it was. The crab soup was horrible. but the pretzel appetizers were very good. Service and the cleanliness of the building was fine.

HORRIBLE SERVICE...too bad for me, the wings are fantastic. Having worked in the restaurant industry for many years, tending bar is tough during rush. That being said, when the place empties out by 9:15pm, and it takes 20 minutes to notice my cocktail is empty and my menu is closed and ready for ordering...Houston- we've got a problem! For a brief moment we thought a bartender was coming to take our order, when she smiled and with a quick wave said "it's been great serving you!", grabbed her purse and clocked out. Yep...that was definitely service with a smile, or as close as we got to it. Thankfully, their wings will bring me back, but that's about it.

This place was not busy for a Saturday. Walked in and waited for a few minutes until someone finally came to welcome us and take us to a table. I order their Avocado Turkey Burger. It only had one small slice of avocado in it (it was the size of a quarter), a small piece of lettuce (like I order a $1 burger at a fast food joint), a nice slice of tomato and red onion. I was expecting a few slices of avocado not one since it's in the name of my burger. Turkey Burger is well seasoned but a little on the salty side for me. Husband order their southwest scorcher and enjoyed it. Service was good. I think they are a little pricey. Not sure if I will go back yet. We shall see. Everyone deserves a second chance

Server had no menu knowledge. Told my nephew his sandwich did not come with fries, and we had questioning faces...and he asked does the description say served with fries? And we showed him the part that said all sandwiches come with a side. Oh ok then...now we get fries since we showed documentation. We went there because a recent ad showed this cheesy bone sandwich. But when it came out it was just regular toast, not any special pretzel bread. Lame!! The wings were good but we had to ask about the sauce after the fact. We just didn't know. But it automatically gets tossed in BBQ, said the a knowledgable server. Weird. Pulled Chicken Salad was soggy and gross. Spicy chicken sandwich was tough. Over cooked. Fried too long. Fries were good. Onion rings were good. That's about it. Carpet was gross. Like a dirty motel u see in movies. Been a while since I have been in a restaurant with carpet. I wondered why we hadn't gone there for so many years. And now I remember why. I was going to ask the manager but I wasn't sure if the lady walking around was the manager. She had this dirty purple tee shirt on. Worse than the old tee shirts I sleep in.

Decided to go here today with a friend. Now I'm kind of sorry we did. The food was OK. At least they got our -special- orders right. So why the 2 stars? Our waiter was S-L-O-W. And I don't mean slow.. I mean, he took our beverage order and then disappeared for the next 10 minutes. He didn't come back to take our order for a long while. It was quite frustrating. Here we were, ready to order, but we had to wait... and wait.. and wait. When we did order, the food came out fast enough, and it was just how we ordered it, but the service just took away from everything.

Pros: best ribs. Not fatty and so much flavor. Bathrooms are always clean. Atmosphere is welcoming. Decor is unique and fits the theme of BBQ. Cons: The servers (at least each one Iv had) are forgetful, and take forever to bring you things. Mind you I was a server, I am very understanding but shit. The fried pickles SUCK . Don't waste your money . They asked my 80 year old grandma for her ID. She didn't have it and they refused to serve her. Which I found so ridiculous . SHE IS A GRANDMA!

Had dinner here tonight and it was good. The hubby and I like them because it's good BBQ and the atmosphere is nice and casual. Their food is typically good, but the broccoli was a bit off tonight. A tad too crunchy for my liking but it was ok. The ribs were a bit tough tonight on the ends but the Mr loved them. The fries are always on point and soft like I like em (I'm a bit of a fry fiend). We also had the chicken fingers and they fried just right. The food at Smokey Bones is a little better than average. I have yet to find a BBQ restaurant in the Tampa area that is decent. We have had Jazzy's but their restaurant is not clean and their food is not good. I only give Smokey Bones 3 stars because their service could be a little better and they could benefit from an overhaul on their restaurant. Other than that we always enjoy their food. This is our little 'go to' spot for date nights.

You probably think barbeque restaurant and immediately think "no vegetarians allowed". While I'm not a full blown vegetarian, I'm definitely not a full on meat eater. Smokey Bones has so many options for meat free meals even including veggie burgers! The create your own burger gives you the opportunity to get your protein without eating meat. On top of that, so many of their appetizers are delish too! I personally love the potato and salad meal. I get the meat on the side for my carnivore husband. I've done both takeout and sit down here. I'm always pleased with the service I received. I will say that the to go is generally a few minutes behind their estimated time, but always fresh. Don't be afraid to ask for what you need either! Crazy about BBQ sauce? Ask them for extra and they'll happily grab you some! I love the casual atmosphere that this place has. With all the TVs, it's a great place to sit down with a nice cold drink and catch up on all the sporting events!

Call ahead to make sure they have ribs , we stopped in for a Sunday dinner & was told after we ordered our food. How does this happen & why isn't there a better system in place for back ups?? Terrible ! They also took tater tot Tini off the menu... Best part is that the manager never came out to apologize or offer something else .. They also took all the portions down to make an open concept but it's worse with the noise now !

While I'm more of a regular at the location in Waterford Lakes when I'm in Orlando, this one in Tampa also gets the job done. Late night Happy Hours are excellent, all day drink specials are a tremendous value and the latest tweaks to the menu look pretty good. (Although I'm still upset they dumped the Pretzel Bun option from the Build Your Own Burger section) I like many items on the menu (Turkey Burger, Pretzel Bones, Pulled Chicken Salad, Brunswick Stew) and find this restaurant chain overall to be very comfortable in providing their comfort food. This specific location is always very clean, has plenty of easy parking and the main girls who regularly work the bar do a solid job and rarely fail to notice that I have an empty glass.

Smokey Bones was originally part of the Darden Restaurants family of chain eateries (Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Longhorn Steakhouse, etc.), but broke away about five years ago and is now owned by a different Orlando-based restaurant company. This location is opposite the Citrus Park Mall along Citrus Plaza Drive which eventually becomes Gunn Highway. This side of the street has the shopping center with all of the chain restaurants, Staples, PetsMart, Best Buy, Bed Bath, etc. They are best known for their barbecued ribs, but they also have awesome pulled pork, beef brisket, burgers, fish, lots of assorted pub grub food, and some terrific sides. They have a large seating area with rustic tables scattered around the dining room and a huge bar area with high top tables and lots of TV screens showing every-imaginable sporting event. I had resisted the urge to eat their ribs for many years because I was not a fan of the overly-sweet mopping sauce that covered everything. And finally one day *insert the sound of heralding trumpets and singing angels here* the folks at Smokey Bones started offering dry-rubbed St. Louis style ribs. Oh shut the front door!!!! The dry rub is the perfect blend of brown sugar and peppery heat, and you now have the option of table-side application of your favorite sauce including Carolina Mustard and Texan Heat. All meals come with a choice of sides, and tonight I opeted for baked Mac & Cheese along with steamed broccoli to go with my ribs. The Mac & Cheese was awesome -- the broccoli was kinda watery, but not bad. And the dry rub ribs??? Well, you'll have to go check them out for yourself. I like them, but your mileage may vary.

Haven't been here in ages...and, after this most recent visit, I remember why. Mediocrity. There were several new menu items that sounded appetizing, but they fell short when it came to taste. The fried pickles were tasty, but, they're fried pickles, how could they not be good? The corn dogs were cooked in their doughnut batter. My husband didn't like them at all; I kind of enjoyed the sweetness, but not enough to eat a whole one. The fries weren't good at all. So disappointing because I used to enjoy their fries. All in all the food was mediocre. I can't imagine I'll be returning anytime soon.

I loved the food but I really loved the staff! After I left the restaurant, I realized that I no longer had my credit card. I returned to the restaurant and spoke to the manager named Nancy. She let me know that if found, she promised that she would contact me. So some days later I received a call in San Francisco from Tampa with the news that my card had been found and would be mailed to me. I now have my card back and wanted to say how great it feels to know that there are still some good folks out there that are doing good deeds! Thanks Nancy!

Eh. Smokey Bones used to be a great "middle ground" place to get some decent BBQ and other bar foods and some awesome doughnuts. Admittedly, I have been there in about a year. This recent experience was quite different from days gone by. It started with the bugs and other debris in the lemonade. Although apologies came from the waitress and manager, that's all we got. We opted for water instead. The pulled pork was "okay", but the barely-steamed broccoli was neatly raw. I MIGHT try one more time for dinner (I won't go out of my way, though.) under the assumption that 1)lunch was not their thing and 2)my positive history with the place, but a 2nd strike, and they're out.

Great BBQ and Burgars This is a regular location for our family! The BBQ is fantastic and recently I tried the burgars for the first time - YUM! Great atmosphere and staff! The Pretzel Bones are a wonderful choice on a starter and the Bag o Donuts is a great way to finish the meal.

Unbelievably bad. We were disappointred before, but this time we tried take-out in the early evening. Had we been served this garbage at a table inside the place, we would have rejected it and left without paying. When we got this bag of rubbish home, we tried to eat it, but it really all went straight into the trash, a total waste of $35. The ribs were burnt black, the meat so tasteless and dry it was like eating a piece of burnt balsa wood. It was so intensely salted you couldn't taste anything but salt anyway. The greasy rubbery parts were like a really bad inedible beef jerky. The chicken was also way overcooked, dry, and obviously precooked into tastelesness before being burnt up in the smoker. The drumsticks and wings were petrified hard and covered in slimy black goo. These meats wouldn't be fit for a dog, unless you wanted to kill it. The baked potatoes were the dryest most overcooked sorryest excuse for a side dish and with dirty unwashed skin. The potato had to be covered with alot of sour cream just to choke down a spoonfull. It also tasted bad on its own. The "fire-roasted corn" is just soggy mushy canned corn with generic seasoning sprinkled in with it. And the server lied of course and said the meats were moist and juicy, just perfect, when he grabbed our money. How this place stays open is a mystery, its certainly not for its rotten salty cremated barbecue.

Being from Alabama and enjoying the great BBQ that we have there it is hard to put a review out there but here goes. As far as chains go they are decent. The portions are decent and the sauces are decent. You notice that I am putting decent a lot that is because everything is passible here, not great but not to bad. The last time we were there I had the smoked turnkey and sausage, the sausage was great but the turkey was overly dry but other than that my sons kids portion of chicken nuggets and fries were cooked good and good portion size. I am sure that there are reviews better and worse than mine but at the end of the day mediocre will bring people in the door when it pertains to food because taste is in the mouth of the beholder.

Not that good, at least not to me. The sauces are just so plain and boring. Can't someone in florida do a decent barbque?? Standard chain food fair, nothing special. Ribs were dry, as well the pulled pork. Cute rugged looking place but that's about it, unfortunately. I wanted it to be better!! I really did

Loaded Nachos for entree, came out a bit cold this time, so I deducted a star from my review and this Smokey Bones gets 3 stars instead of 4. I love Smokey Bones Loaded Nachos. It is best when covered in BBQ sauce. Service was pretty decent, nothing spectacular. This chain restaurant is pretty consistent across the board and I have no complaints. There was nothing special that stood out about this visit, but nothing negative worth reporting. I will be back to this location and other locations in the future, pretty much whenever I am craving my Nachos. I get them fully loaded with chicken and extra jalepenos. I like them good and spicy. They have a decent drink selection, but I pretty much stick to beer when I want a drink here, nothing like a cold beer with good BBQ. Smokey Bones does a good job when it comes to BBQ and you should be very happy with your experience if you are looking for a chain that will consistently deliver quality BBQ.

The St. Louis style ribs with the Memphis Rub... OMGOSSHHH! I have eaten at a few bbq places here in FL, and these ribs are really good, jus like home! I licked my fingers and thoroughly enjoyed myself while doin it! LOL I will be back, for sure.

We ordered the brisket as part of a combo entrée. That brisket was the single worst piece of food I've ever been served at a restaurant. Rubbery, fatty, and flavorless. And cubed instead of sliced? Altogether a horrible option. All the other food (pork & smoked wings) was fine. Service was ok, but server didn't check on us often.

My friends and I, of about 8, sat down and we're waiting for about 5 minutes to get our orders in and the manager comes over to our table and first says I will serve you food but no alcohol...we only had one person in our group that had 2 or 3 drinks before we got there and he was even in the parking lot. We didn't do anything out of the ordinary or obnoxious for the manager to come over and say that to us and he definitely just lost 8 people's business...especially the fact that I eat here with my husband and son once a week...that won't be happening anymore....worst customer service!!

If your looking for real smoked wings and amazing pulled chicken DONT come here! I ordered smoked wings and they looked fried; I asked the server of these are "smoked" and she said yes and walked away. I tried one and was certain it was fried, I asked the server if they were fried she said "we smoke the wings, let them sit to room temperature and when they're ordered we flash fry them for a min" that's pathetic to say the least! I also ordered a pulled chicken salad, it took more than 30 min to come out, the wait wasn't the bad part, the fact that the chicken was ice cold was the part that pissed me off. I asked our charming server, why is the chicken cold? She said, it because "we grill it, then pull it, then chill it in the fridge". Bottom line is the name is quite misleading, chicken tastes left over and they just best it up for you. They have ribs, burgers, steaks and pasta here too: you can try it, I'm gonna pass. For BBQ in this area I recommend Jazzy's and Alex's BBQ.

Well things have all but gone down hill at this establishment. Make sure you have the laser pointer handy so you can get the attention of the staff. I placed an order for a shredded chicken chopped salad. The chicken atop the salad was in three pieces along with the lettuce torn into 3-4 inch pieces. I had to explain that chopped meant the use of a utensil to achieve the finished product. Don't get me started on the un-shredded chicken.

Well, that was terrible. There was almost no one in the place yet we had to wait for over five minutes just for someone to acknowledge that we were waiting. While waiting, I noticed the manager in the kitchen look over at us multiple times. Needless to say, she did not come over to offer any assistance. Finally, someone came over. Woo-hoo! The waitresses said she had to "clear" a table? Really? The place is empty. So we waited....again. Five minutes pass and we were still not seated. So , we walked out. Mind you, all of this happened around 4:45pm on a Wednesday. It was not busy. Unless management changes or starts to care about their customers, I will not be returning.

After reading all of the negative reviews about this location we almost didn't come but we had a good experience. Great service, friendly waitress and the food came right away. Guess there are always some bad severs but we enjoyed our dining. Normally go to the location on gulf to bay in Clearwater but this one was just as good. If you like a good burger or barbecue it's hard to go wrong with Smokey Bones.

I cant recommend this place. The food was awful. I ordered southwest spring rolls and a rack of baby back ribs. The ribs were dry and i spent more time scraping the bones to get the meat off than eating them. Avoid the southwest spring rolls. Apparently there is chicken in them somewhere but they taste like over fried rice filled high margin mash. BJ's across the street has far better spring rolls. The food looked and tasted as if it was prepared a prior day and reheated. Plenty of better choices in the area to eat - choose someplace else.

Smokey Bones is just not what it once was. To be honest, I never was a raving fan of their BBQ, but it was okay. I prefer Sonny's, or for even better takeout-only (due to the smoke), Alex's or Jazzy's. But some guys at work like Smokey Bones well enough that I go there occasionally. Now I mostly get a burger, which is decent, but I prefer Green Iguana's. It's quite expensive. Burger, fries and a coke hits $14 with tip. I've noticed that the fries taste funky, like doughnuts, which I assume they still sell as a dessert. The service is decent. It's pretty slow at lunch time and there's free Wifi, so it could be a place to get some business done. It still looks like a good place for sports, with all the televisions and individual speaker boxes at each table. I've heard the bar is still a good place to spend a Sunday afternoon during football season, but I haven't been there for a game in a couple years.

I actually really like smokey bones, and if it were strictly based on food I'd give them a four, which is fantastic for a chain restaurant. I've had their ribs multiple times & they're super tender. Lately, though, I've been all about their pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw. The coleslaw is unlike any other I've had, in a very good way. Lots of crunch, not overly creamy, with an interesting seasoning. I also appreciate the the fact that they offer a variety of sauces- from sweet, to spicy, to mustardy, to vinegar based- there's something for everyone. I'm docking a star only because I've literally NEVER had really good service here. I'd say out of the 10 or so times I've been, three times I've had decent service, and the other 7 times have ranged from slow to terrible. They need some major improvement in their quality and/or training of servers. Fix that & it could easity be a 4 star establishment!

On a recent visit to the Tampa area, I decided to have lunch at Smokey Bones. All of the Smokey Bones by my home had closed and I remembered liking them when they were around. It was a little after noon when I pulled up to this restaurant, there were very few cars in the parking lot so I was a bit scared. I walked inside and there were only about 3 tables filled. I was greeted upon entering the restaurant and was quickly seated. My waitress came over and took my drink order right away and was prompt to take my order. I had the loaded baked potato filled will pulled pork and I a garden salad. The pulled pork was good and not fatty at all, though I do wish there was more pork in my potato. The salad was pretty good too and they put my dressing on the side which is just the way I like it. There are a page of lunch specials that are supposed to be quick to prepare available. They were $9.99 and looked good, but I do think that with all the competition in that area, that $9.99 is a bit too aggressive of a price. The food was good and the service was quick. I have no idea why this place was so empty at lunch, but I'm guessing this chain won't be around much longer, yikes!

I'm a big fan of Smokey Bones, but oddly enough it's not because of their BBQ. Every time I come I end up getting something else and never make it to the ribs or the beef. Their nachos are amazing, especially with pulled pork on top. And I just cannot leave without eating a whole skillet cornbread. That thing should be regulated as a controlled substance. You might find this odd, but I think of Smokey Bones as one of the better places to get a burger. Yes, a burger. I'm not sure if it's because the nachos and cornbread have already softened me up, but I find their burgers delicious. Especially the Loaded BBQ burger topped with pulled pork and onion rings. Yum! And the night of indulgence is not complete without the doughnuts. They come hot inside a bag covered in cinnamon sugar and come accompanied with dipping sauce. By the time I'm done it really didn't matter I didn't try the ribs. Oh yeah, I'm a fan. I've got to ride 20 extra miles every day for a week before I come back...

Considering that most people can't eat at the city's best restaurants every night, Smokey Bones is good for what it is -- a themed chain restaurant with food, service and an atmosphere that are good enough when you just need a bite to eat someplace convenient. No, it's not the best BBQ I've ever had in my life, but I wouldn't expect the servers at Carrabba's to speak Italian either. The food at Smokey Bones is pretty good, though the portions have gotten smaller so the meals can be a little pricey for what you get now. The pulled pork and beef brisket are good, and the sauces are definitely worthwhile. We'll probably go back the next time we're at the mall and cooking just ain't in the cards.

I used to love Smokey Bones but hadn't been in years because all the locations closed. Therefore I was delighted to visit one while visiting Tampa. I went with a couple friends & we were very happy with our experience. The food was hot, fresh, flavorful & delicious. We had an amazing waitress named Faith who easily made the experience even better. She was so delightful...:) I just ordered the broccoli cheese soup & a chicken Ceasar salad. I had to send the soup back because it had a weird sour taste to it but they took it off my bill with no problems. The waitress later told me that the cooks tasted the soup & agreed that it had a funny taste. The salad was good but I really wasn't all that crazy about the dressing. The others in my party got ribs with various sides & everyone liked their food. For desert we had the dognuts which were delicious!

We've been here 4 or 5 times and always had decent experiences, but our last visit will be just that--our last. Two pulled pork dinners, a cornbread and two sodas just shouldn't cost $38. I can feed 3 people for this price at Jazzy's or Holy Hog. Insult to injury, the portions were weak as hell. They have definitely cut back on the amount of food you get over the years.

Went back to Smoky Bones on saturday evening and had terrible service. First I asked for the wine list. The server could not find one and asked if we wanted white or red. He then rattled off the wines in red and white that we might have been interested in. We then each ordered a combo platter. My wife ordered one with pulled pork and barbequed chicken. After about twenty minutes the server came out and said that they were out of the chicken that she had ordered. She changed her selection for the second item in the combo. When the food was served only one item was on her plate. The server said that the second item would be right out. It did come out as we finished our meals (about twenty minutes after we started eatinc). We sent it back and I refused to pay for it. They are slipping terribly and need to get their act together.

I have had Smokey Bones catering from my previous job and to tell the truth it wasn't all that great. So when the wife and I went out for dinner and was only left with this choice we were somewhat hesitant. From the moment we were greeted by the happy host I started to relax and enjoy the low light fire in the front and bar in the back atmosphere. We were seated at a booth within 30 (since it was a Saturday night) and greeted by out friendly waiter in no time at all. Service all around was a 5. The wife made her own burger and I had the brisket. Both were cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The only down side was that I was not a huge fan of the four sauces that they have a d on the burger they don't have plain mayo (I think it was a spice mayo or something. It was still great food. We left enough room for some wonton apples for desert. My god those were amazingly wonderful. For both meals, a come, and an adult beverage, our total before tax was around $39. A lot lower then I was planing on. Overall this was a great place to eat with friendly service and good food.

This place is grotesquely over priced for it's fare. BBQ is boring and bland. Would have tried the ribs but they wanted $15.99 for half a rack! They seem to be stuck between a bargain restaurant and upscale dinning. Unfortunately the food is bargain and the prices are upscale. Lots of frozen food here. And service was booty There are many better options nearby for dinning. This place is a skip.

I found a coupon in the mail for this place, so I grabbed my feeding trough and ordered a plateful of varied meats and sides. At some BBQ spots they all taste the same. Not here. The smoked wings had a rub on them that inspired thoughts of Indian cuisine, and a serious sodium overdose. Washed it away with beer. The beer was cold, but overpriced for a simple pitcher of diet. The Brisket had both the best and worst textures in every bite, unsure how they managed that. The coleslaw was tasty. The roasted corn looked better than it tasted. Beans were a bit coagulated. I prefer them like church and state- separated. The pulled pork was satisfying. There was some sausage in there that temporarily uplifted my spirits but in the end my favorite feature of this place was the entertaining television programs. I caught the Monday night game and walked out with some token trivia facts, but I'll admit; I was thinking about another place the entire time.

We got there almost 2pm Sunday and the dining room was only about half full, but we still were issued a pager and made to wait 20 mins for a table! Then they crammed 7 of us in a booth made for 4 at the most. Then the server brought our drinks, we said we needed another minute (as in one!) And we didn't see her again for at least 15 -20 mins. Again, restaurant WAS NOT BUSY. Food was ok, except pulled pork was tougher than usual, they put onions on nachos when they were requested to be left off, and wrong kind of wings were on combo plate. Attention to detail was nil. Drinks were not refilled as needed. Just poor service especially since the place was not that busy. Pitiful
