This place is in dire need of a renovation! Well, unless they're holding on to the décor style until it comes back in style 10 years from now. Maybe they're forward thinkers? I don't know, but the place was sort of a dump. The tables were wobbly and the chair were in terrible shape. Most of them were torn, exposing what little padding was still left in them. I had a serious hard time getting comfortable during the show. I mean, this place has been around for a really long time, what would it cost the owners to get some new chairs? Shouldn't customer comfort be a priority? Damn... I felt like I was on one of those Bar Rescue type shows pointing out all of the obvious signs of failure to my inner studio audience. Also, the sound system is antiquated. If you're in the back corner where I we sat (table 719), then good luck if the comedian doesn't project his voice. Seriously owners, update that shit and make sure everyone in the audience has the same audible experience. The service is the only reason they're not getting a 1 star from me. Our server, Marylin, was on task and super courteous. And for being a comedy club, all of the alcohol prices were fair, compared to Improv at least. Not sure if I will return. Depends on who is performing, I guess. Sebastian Maniscalco had us rolling, but the laughter didn't compensate me for the discomfort.

We have been to Side Splitters several times now and it is a great small comedy club! Buying tickets for an event is super easy using their online access. We have seen Jim Norton, Jim Florentine and Robert Kelly, to name a few, and it's always been a great time. The food and drink is reasonably priced and the staff there are very attentive during the show. If you want to see talented comics, check out Side Splitters!

We were here almost three weeks ago to see Josh Blue. Prior to that, I don't remember the last time I was at Side Splitters. If memory serves me right it may have been about 20 years ago. Well, I don't think the place has been updated since then. It still looks the same as it did years ago. That's ok, I guess, it doesn't have to be fancy to serve it's purpose as a comedy club? There is still a two drink minimum per person, which that was easily met by the both of us, plus more haha. We didn't try the food since we had just came from dinner, and I am not exactly sure if I would be a fan of their cuisine. I am not a huge fan of the seating arrangements. We were sat at a table for four with two complete strangers. The tables are a little too close to one another, also. Parking can be a headache too. Side Splitters is located in the back of a shopping plaza with many bars and restaurants that share parking with the space. Not really too sure if I would come back to Side Splitters unless the comedian was a major headliner.

We were celebrating a birthday, party of 4 women. When we got to our seats, old rude people were in them. We got the staff to move them and they were none to happy. During the show the old people complained we were laughing to loudly. We were warned and the asked to leave. If you go to this outdated club and sit near old people do not laugh to loudly at the jokes. If the old people ( and there are plenty of them) complain you will be asked to leave. If your under 60 and want to laugh it up got to Ybor instead.

Outdated venue with old chairs, tables, audio system, and decor. Not a fan of the 2 drink minimum requirement. Side splitters runs an amateur league. All the big hitter comedians go to improv. This place is starving for talent. The hypnotist is stupid and Alonzo fills in too often because they can't book shows with any kind of comedians. Go to improv in ybor! Way better!

You can tell it's looked the same in here for years, but it's what you'd expect a comedy club to look like. It kind of has that old carpet smell (like 100s of beers have been spilled on it), but nothing too bad. They usually have 2-3 acts before the headliner, so you get significant value for the cost (and shows are pretty long). It's small, so regardless of where you sit you can see the stage just fine. The rear seating area is raised a bit, too. If you fill out the email/phone form on your table, they will call you all the time for free tickets. Most of the time I've come here have been for free (other than a small service charge). There's a two drink-minimum, so it's not TOTALLY free.

Ok, so here's the list of headliners that I have seen here over the last 5+ years: Gilbert Gottfried (Always delivers), Jim Jefferies (Outstanding), Norm McDonald (Stoned out of his mind), Dave Foley (Super nice guy), Kenny Banya (Yes, Seinfeld fans...that's how we know him), Gary Valentine (Way too drunk. Not me, him), and, most recently, Chloe from 24. (Yes, she really smiles in real life!). Oh, and special mention of a locally based feature comedian that has opened for a few of these people named Rahn Hortman. Rahn is very good and always a welcome bonus to any show. Side Splitters makes the most out of what they have and I truly respect how they work hard to not only book a variety of comedians, but fill the room on a nightly basis. Seriously, a comedian is a lot happier and a lot funnier when there are more people in the room and Side Splitters does a ton of promotion to make that happen. Also, this is a comedy club...not a performing arts or theater venue. So don't expect much in the way of amenities. Besides, those other places charge a much higher admission charge and I appreciate that Side Splitters makes it very inexpensive to see a show. Other than a bad comic (like, oh, say Gary Valentine), nothing seems to adversely affect the reputation of a comedy club more than the dreaded "drink minimum" on what you must order at the table. Side Splitters is very fair by having a "Two ITEM minimum," so they are not forcing you to spend money on alcohol if you don't want to do so. Parking sometimes can be difficult, especially if there's a show going on when you arrive holding tickets for the next show and if the neighboring restaurants all have decent crowds themselves. With few exceptions, the comedians are usually available right after their performance for meet and greet and I have the pictures with Gilbert, Chloe and Banya to prove it. (Sorry, I don't have any with Gary Valentine)

I got free tickets. .. then was told I was mistaken about the night. I talked with the owner and he set us up right and treated us very well. The show was outstanding and the service was very good! Word of advice check your dates of the show... Big thumbs up for side splitters! Food was ok and alcohol prices were with in the norm! I will definitely go again!

There's a two drink or food minimum. If you have specific seat requests, let the hostess know in advance. Also, if you purchase their t-shirt and wear, you receive some free stuff.

This is a nice little comedy club in Carrollwood that always provides a good laugh. It's definitely small but they still manage to bring in some pretty good talent.I got tickets to see Maurice Jovan and he put on a great show. Even the openers were good. I do want to say that I called about a promotion that I got via email offering free tickets but when I got to the girl at the desk my name wasn't on the list. Instead of fighting me about it, and me getting all worked up, I showed her the e-mail and she let me in with no problems. After having soooo many problems at other comedy venues in the area I appreciated the no hassle approach to their ticketing policy. I would imagine it would be a different situation if it was full but I hope that they would still handle a situation like that with grace. I guess the owner was smart enough to know that a happy customer will spend more money in the place than an angry one. I even ended up sitting in the bar after the show with my date to have a couple more drinks. My major major complaint is the PARKING....OMG it's horrible. With some of the more popular shows that they have, the walk to the front door is crazy because you would end up parking all the way on the other side of the plaza. Even supplying a valet service would help but they really just need more space. Like other reviewers have said the place is a little rough around the edges and the two item minimum in the dining room can be a pain but plan ahead and you'll be ok. It's a nice little neighborhood spot and I love it when I don't have to travel all the way to Ybor for a show and deal with their horrible customer service and their terrible drinks.

Had an enjoyable Thursday night here with a pretty decent comic line up. Not a huge place, but big enough that you don't feel claustrophobic. Lighting and set were minimal, but well suited for the space. It's not really high class, so jeans and flip flops def welcome. Wine & mixed drinks will run you around $8-9. But they have Bud and Bud Light beer bucket specials. Service at our table was great! Comedians were funny- especially the headliner. Really loved him! I would definitely come back to Side Splitters for another fun night out :)

Charming is a good way to describe this dilapidated little comedy club. Since we really only have two in Tampa, I'm a little embarrassed, but luckily, I was able to drink that feeling away. We were constantly reminded of the two item minimum per person, so we just went hard with a fairly priced bucket and tried to enjoy the show. Marilyn took great care of us, but the overly shabby spot we had been sat at had me roach nervous, and not ready to order anything edible from here. Broken tiles, chairs, and a leaky restroom toilet handle and sink were eye sores that had me wondering how one of Tampa's longest standing (19 years to get their shit together) comedy clubs could end up like this. This was my first and possibly last visit, although somehow they get some great comedians in.

The best place to see live comedy in Tampa Bay hands down. I go to a lot of live comedy shows. This place always delivers. Great opening comics. Great headliners in a very intimate setting. The best thing is you can reserve your seats on line! You don't have to get there an hour and a half before the show starts to get a decent table. I've been there probably 20 times (seriously) in the last 2 or 3 years and the servers are always great the drinks aren't watered down, and the food is good too. On the food bit, I have to admit we don't usually order food. We usually only get cocktails, but the few appetizers and desserts we have ordered were good. The management also does a great job when an audience member doesn't take the hint that everyone else in the room didn't come to see them.

We've gone a few times. Once I had a Living Social deal, the other I purchased tickets to see Jon Reep. While we really enjoyed the comedians, we do not enjoy the two item minimum. I wouldn't mind that being a requirement if there was something decent to eat or drink there. We were even given a free dessert after the waitress spilled a drink on me and we couldn't eat it because it tasted spoiled. I wish they offered better food if they were going to have a minimum purchase requirement.

My girlfriend got us all tickets to see Collin Moulton who was very funny. The MC and the opener..YAWN! I think most people laughed because they felt bad... The whole 2 item minimum per person really blows thou. I got a sprite because I was the DD and then the men split a bucket of beer and we got a cuban. the cuban was ok. Typical bar food served with bottom of the bag potato chips... The tables and chairs need a facelift along with the tablecloths and decor. For $3 a ticket its an ok deal but can't really picture going back. I'd almost rather pay the extra $$ and go to the improv. The only + is that they can't smoke in there anymore.

A friend won tickets to see Gary Valentine at Side Splitters and asked if I wanted to join, and since it was a Thursday night, I said SURE. I've not been to Side Splitters since the late '90's and thought why not. The place really hasn't changed. The waiting area is still predictably small, and the seating area is still a bunch of small (VERY) small tables pushed together onto a small floor where the comedian stands on a stage and does his/her schtick. They have a 2 drink minimum, and prices are... well, they're not cheap. The entertainment we saw, The first, a local fellow from NPR (poor guy - I grew up there, I KNOW all too well the tribulations of Redneckville) was decent. I liked him, but I think the crowd didn't know how to react to him. The headliner? He was funny. I'd honestly not heard of him, but recognized him when I saw him. He was on King of Queens, and he had us ROLLING. Over all, the show was a fun outing. They did say there would be trivia after the show to win prizes, I waited around.. trivia never happened. ***EDIT TO ADD*** So a friend of mine just related this to me: "I had paid by credit card, left "in Cash" on the tip line and left her $3 bucks in cash at the table. When I checked my statement, I saw that she added a $5 charge for the tip, to a $14 bill? I don't think so." This was on Tuesday. She tried to get a hold of them, but no one answered. Finally she got through and she was supposed to hear back from them on Wednesday. Of course, she never got a call back. Today, she received a message from their Manager stating that a mistake was made and that $5 would be credited back to her card. I find this slightly shady, honestly. Not everyone checks their bill, and $5 here and $5 there adds up quickly when you're padding your tips. BE AWARE.

I like to enjoy a nice warm beer when I watch a comedian...NOT. The beer is always served with a hot glass. And the appetizers are really bad. I would come here more if the food wasn't so bad...especially since there is usually a two purchase minimum with the tickets we buy. I'd pay more for better food! More to come on the comedy...

We went to see Damien Lemon and Chris Distefano, both of whom were excellent, so it was definitely a good time. Our overall experience was good and maybe that's because we have reasonable expectations for any comedy club. What I mean is that a comedy club in such a convenient (residential) location can't possibly draw the same crowds as areas specifically designed for nightlife (Ybor), but it still costs money to get decent comics, so you either have very high ticket prices or drink minimums. Especially with all the discounts Side Splitters offers, the tickets are not expensive, so a two-drink minimum is completely fair. With that said, maybe they should put more effort into making sure everyone is informed of the drink minimum at the time they buy tickets ... we were, so it was no big deal, but it sounds like some people don't find out until they're seated. Similarly, we don't go to a comedy club for the food or decor, so our review is not based on the cuisine and I can't comment on the food. Especially since Side Splitters is surrounded by restaurants (including a couple very good ones), I really can't think of any reason I would order food at a comedy club (or any other bar). The only real negative is that the bathrooms are way, way too small for a place with a hundred people who are all drinking at least two drinks while holding our water til the end of a ninety-minute show. That was very annoying and the only reason that I might think twice before returning.

For the price, $3, you can't complain. Of course with prices that low you'll have to meet a 2 item minimum. The prices on the drinks are not horrible especially when factoring in this is a comedy club. The food was less than stellar, generic bar food that can be quickly made by Chef Mic. The entertainment almost fell flat. The main act was good but the MC and the opener was horrible. We saw Collin Moulton perform at the late show. Inside is a little outdated, the tablecloths make the area look even cheaper. But I guess your there for the laughs and thats about it.

I was a little worried after some of the reviews but I had nothing but a great experience and probably the best CS I have ever received. We were visiting Tampa for a few days and our flight was delayed so we were not able to make the show we had originally purchased tickets for. When we finally got to Tampa, I emailed Side Splitters and explained to them what happened and they responded within a few minutes and sent tickets for the next night without making us pay for new tickets. When we arrived we were seated in the seats we had originally purchased and our waitress was as friendly as could be. I will definitely be going to another show next time we are in Tampa!

The boyfriend and I came here with another couple with whom we are friends for a Friday night comedy show date night. This is only the 2nd time we've been to a stand up comedy (the 1st time being a few weeks back at the Improv). We decided to come here on a whim as there was a groupon and we enjoyed the last comedy show we went to so much, we figured it was worth a shot. I called as we were headed over to reserve our table and inquired about the performer for the evening. We were told it was to be Hypnotist Flip Orley. When we arrived we were given our tickets and seated right away. There is a bar here in the lobby for those who want to grab drinks while waiting if you arrive early. We were taken to a table toward the back but still in decent view of the stage. I didn't find the chairs to be comfortable and right away I knew it wasn't going to be any better after sitting in them for almost 2 hours. The server came by and brought the menu with drinks/snacks. They have an extensive drink selection here, but food is limited. Don't come expecting to order dinner as they only have light snacks, such as mozzarella sticks, nachos, fruit & cheese plate, etc. We all ordered a round of drinks and a few apps. The food took a while to come out, we did not receive it until after the show started. We were unsure as to what to expect from a hypnotist show, but it turned out to be good overall. It took a LONG time to get the show on the road, as Flip spent nearly an hour explaining the process and procedures of hypnosis. A bit lengthy and dull if you ask me. Finally, once he selected members from the audience to be hypnotized on stage, the fun got going and the laughs were all over the audience. In regards to the food, it was "meh" to say the least. On par with bowling alley food for sure, the chips served with the spinach dip and nachos were stale and not crunchy. The fruit & cheese platter was decent. Overall, we all had a fun evening, but not as good as our first comedy experience. The food quality and selection could stand to be improved, as well as different seating arrangements to increase comfort level.

They only get a good comedian once every 2 years. The owner is a dick & not funny in the slightest.

Visited Side Splitters Comedy Club with a large group of friends to see Roy Wood Jr. perform. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and his wife snagged us several tables right in front of the stage. *Warning* these seats are not desirable if you do not want to get heckled. One of the guys in our group was pretty upset about that the comedians kept singling him out in the crowd. Compared to the Improv in Ybor I thought the seating arrangement was great despite our proximity to the stage. While the club was packed, we did not feel like we were sitting on top of each other. Each table seats four people. If you do not have enough people in your group to fill a four top they will sit you with random people so be prepared to meet some new friends. (They face everyone towards the stage so it isn't that awkward.) There are a few random tables in the corners of the room that don't get a great view of the stage so I would reserve your table in advance or arrive early to assure a good view. While I found the ticket prices were very reasonable for the talent I thought the two item per person minimum was a bit annoying. We ordered a glass of scotch, a glass of wine and a fruit and cheese platter in the beginning. Both of the wines I wanted were sold out so I ended up settling on a glass of the house red wine. The waitress brought out my glass of water, but not my wine. She didn't return to our table again until halfway through the show. At this point she tells me I need to order another item, but I haven't even received my first drink so why do I want a second drink?!?! My husband ended up ordering a souvenir shot glass to fill the quota. The food and drinks were ridiculously marked up so we ended up spending $50 after tip on mediocre cheese and terrible wine. I found it a bit ironic that the service was so bad because Side Splitters plays a short video before the show stressing the importance of tipping your server. Perhaps if the service wasn't so terrible the servers would get stiffed less?

Had a great time. Very funny. The drinks were great and service was excellent . I had read the menu prior so we had dinner elsewhere and had desert and drinks at the comedy show and it was perfect. Ambience, hospitality, hosts all culminated in a great night with my husband. Will certainly come back soon!!!

Horrible experience! The place is old and grungy, but ok we were there to laugh. Went with a date and had seats right by the stage to enjoy Nick DePaolo. As we were right by the stage we were obvious targets for being picked on in the show which Nick did in several occasions... I have long legs and rested my shoe on the stage which he heckled me for repeatedly calling me names I will not even repeat as they are profane in front of my date BUT we laughed and I even was gracious as it was in line with the comedy UNTILL the manager Brian threw us out! He threw US out for being Heckled by the act!!! I was not insulted until then, we were not being rude or obnoxious, not heckling the act and we were used as comedic fodder. Brian was rude and I find this unacceptable. I read the reviews before going and this complaint is not new but I figured that people must have been being obnoxious to get kicked out, I am not going to have that problem, but sure enough we were kicked out as part of the show! Not acceptable and not funny! Save your money go to the Tampa Improv it is a great experience! I will NEVER go back here!

Decided to try out a Living Social deal because everyone likes stand-up comedy, even if you don't know the comedian. (Turns out, though, if you just subscribe to their mailing list, they offer free tickets all the time.) We had dinner beforehand, so one of our required 2 minimum items was the chocolate mousse dessert. Not that great. Our server was good, though. The place is packed, so of course these servers are running around like crazy. I didn't think we waited too long for our orders, and he didn't get anything wrong. So I can't complain. BUT I can complain about the seating. I called ahead to buy tickets in advance, got to choose our table, but was never told that we'd be seated with 2 other strangers! That made things really awkward when they came to sit down. When I looked around, there were definitely people at other tables with just their party of 2. So I was a little upset that I wasn't warned or given the option to just have it be MY party of 2. Also, the show, funny and entertaining as it was, seemed really short. Opening host, opening comedian, then headliner. Three comedians would make it a little longer than 1.5hrs, don't you think? I've been to other places where it was a solid 2.5-3 hours. I was so shocked to get kicked out at the show's end before 10pm!

We knew about the two item minimum and were fine with it. What I don't get is their definition of 'two items'. We ordered a bucket of beer (5 beers) and a bottomless popcorn. We assumed that would cover three people. No. Fifteen minutes before the show ended we were told we were still short one item. I asked how that was possible and was told that a bucket of beer only coveres the item minimum for two people. Well, that makes sense.... Comedian was ok. Tables jammed in there. Was just sort of stuffy and uncomfortable. Although the Improv is also cramped, I prefer it over this place. EDIT: Bumped down to one star after a poorly written response to an email I sent to them: "a bucket counts as two items and popcorn one. totaling three items." Right...

This place is poorly run. I have had 4, yes 4 reasons to attend this crap shoot. They screwed me over with online purchased seats, and when I contacted the manager, he wrote back with a misspelled email saying I had "anger" issues. I just don't like getting screwed over. I have brought many people from out of town here, and they always spend at least 100. This time I spent $72. on seats, just a day later the seats went on sale for 5. each. Their response was "oh well". The drinks are expensive, and the manager is a jerk. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. Rent the comedians dvd, and save yourself a 150.00.

OK, it's a comedy club. . . Luckily on the night we decided to go (tonight) Christopher Titus was in town. He's a funny man! Aside from that, it has the standard comedy club rules 2 item minimum. Not a big deal if only the food were a step up from TGIF's or Applebee's (not a fan). But a great comic and a great group of people! FYI: Dress in layers, it was very warm inside.

My husband and I went to Side Splitters for the first time to support a friend who was performing during their amateur competition. I've only been to The Improv in Ybor once, but after that I decided I love comedy shows, so I was totally game for the experience. We purchased our tickets online, showed up, got seated, and that's where it went downhill. Now, let me clarify, the "downhill" was not because of the comedians. Most of them were hilarious and had me seriously cracking up. If this rating were based only on the comedians, they'd get 4 stars. But no, the "downhill" was because of their swindling and their terrible waitresses. When we were seated we were informed of their food/drink minimum. WTF? I never experienced this @ The Improv, so I was confused. You charge for entry, and *then* you also force us to buy drinks or your shitty overpriced food? Even at the theatre they don't *force* you to buy snacks. Not to mention, I asked for a water to follow up the alcoholic beverage I was forced to order, and I literally had to ask the waitress three times for a glass of water! Fortunately for her my husband signed the check, because I wouldn't have given her shit for a tip. I definitely won't be back to Side Splitters unless it's to support a friend. Other than that, The Improv @ Ybor has my business.

Wish there were an option for 2.5 stars. This place is just "okay". The first time I went was on a LivingSocial voucher, which ended up not really being that good of a deal considering you can get tickets online with the promo code "Jerry" for super cheap and choose your seats, guaranteeing you and your friends all get to sit together. But we found this out the hard way after calling and making a reservation and then finding out when we got there that they were busy so we had to spread out our party of 10. I've been on busier nights and not-so-busy nights. The comedians are great, and I often enjoy the openers as much as I do the main comedians. The food is gross, nothing I've had is something you'd call delicious. Drinks are okay. The arnold palmer is pretty good. Considering the place is non-smoking, I always leave smelling like smoke. Maybe because they allow smoking in the lounge you wait in before going into the actual room? Service is pretty good, but the two item minimum is dumb. There is always confusion over how many items certain things count for. I would go back for the cheaper online price with promo code, and just buy the tickets in bulk in advance and have my friends pay me back. Be prepared, after each visit they will call you and tell you you've won 8 tickets or something, but you really are just able to purchase tickets at the cheaper rate and they give you the promo code.

I liked this place. Good comedians. We don't drink, so the 2 item min was a bit annoying considering the food options weren't the greatest but whatever. I had a fun night. I laughed a lot, which is why I went. I ordered online, and read the rules, so wasn't surprised by the min item requirements. Just wish the food options were more varied and there were more healthy choices. I will be going back

My star count is lowered due to my ticket experience - not my visit. Club is very nice, people are nice and they love to have people enjoying themselves. Back in January 2013, I bought tickets for a little known comic (Jim Jefferies) who is my favorite comic ever - has been for years. So I buy a ticket from Side Splitters website, tickets are handled by vendor TicketBiscuit. I paid over 130 dollars for premium tickets on a table for four, two tables away from the stage. A few months later, Jim Jefferie's show LEGIT started on FX. He is now a star. Fast forward to April 19th, showtime. Our party of 4 got babysitters for our kids, went to dinner at Outback nearby, and wandered in to Side Splitters at 930pm. Seating starts at 945pm. The nice lady at the ticket taker desk motioned for the owner to come over - as there is an issue: apparently, they double sold the entire club, leaving anyone who purchased tickets prior to March, screwed. They sold the very seats paid $130 for to other people. Wait - but I have a printed confirmation....and my ticket number shows up in your computer for tonight's show. Didn't matter - they chose to penalize those who bought early - before Mr. Jefferies was a star....people like me and my party of four. The owner bought us drinks at the bar and said he is working on it - as the doors to the club start to close I move up to the doors preventing them from shutting - no way am I not getting in. The owner, always polite and apologetic, explained that Mr. Jefferie's PR firm had canceled his show that night, and booked him in Miami. Miami apparently did not work out, and then re-booked him back at Side Splitters. Problem is, TicketBiscuit re-opened ticket sales for the same night - even thought the club was fully sold out. HMMMmmmm....who to blame? Side Splitters...? TicketBiscuit...? Jim Jefferies...? Jim doesn't schedule himself or deal with ticketing - so he's out. I blame all other parties. We were told that all ticket holders were notified of the cancellation. I wasn't. Even though all of my information was needed to buy the ticket - my email address, phone number, address. No attempt by Side Splitters are TicketBiscuit was made. In the end, some people never showed up, and we got their sloppy second seats - the other two people in our party were separated from us and sent to other seats on the far side of the room. We were given two more round of free drinks and were able to watch the show. Seats were okay - but not two tables away like I purchased. I consider it too much trouble to try and recoup my losses as I did get to see my comic, I got free drinks, and we had fun. Somebody involved knows who's fault it is - and you should be ashamed - hopefully this will happen to them one day. Yes, its a comedy show.... #FirstWorldProblems....but I want what I paid for - that's fair........right? YELP !!!!!!

Ok so let me start off by saying there were some people with who were absolutely trashed by the time we showed up for our 8:00PM show. The opening MC and comic were absolutely funny and had me dying. The comic we paid to see was ok, but not hilarious (not that it wasn't "my"humor") just not that funny. We had a member of our party I'm ashamed to say was belligerent drunk and embarrassing. The manager and server, Corey, held their cool and didn't kick us out, just cut off this drunk. The were definitely nice guys in my book, and I'm glad to say i will go back and be EXTRA nice since this guy in our party was a complete ass.

We have been to Side Splitters twice. We are going again this weekend. We have been to the Improv many, many times and just recently we switched to Side Splitters because our friends live near there (we're in Madeira). The cons: you have a 2 item minimum per person. Now granted, each time we've gone, including this coming weekend, it's been with free tickets. We don't complain too much about the price of drinks, we can get 2 HUGE iced teas for under $7 each person, which is cheaper than the unlimited drink for $11 (you're paying for the hurricane glass). And we do get food. So far, we've gotten the nachos twice (canned cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, salsa) and pretzels (cheese/mustard) once. Our table mates have gotten the Cuban (which, regardless of what they say, is NOT the best Cuban in Tampa - go to Bodega's in St. Pete for that). Their sandwich had wax paper cooked in it, as if someone hadn't taken the meat off the paper when making the sandwich. Yech. The other couple got the nachos, like us, and they were positive about it for as simple as the dish is. The pros - the seats are about 50% more comfortable than the Improv. The Improv's seats are the pits. I can sit for 90 minutes at SS without squirming and feeling as if the cane seat below me is going to fall apart because it's old and squirrelly. Usually the drinks are cold, large and tasty. The room isn't as large so you can actually hear the comic. If you don't sit in the front of the Improv, you can't hear the person on the stage. Funny enough, there is a no kissing rule. Now, I would pshaw that if I didn't see the free p*rn show we had last time at the Improv in front of us. I could hardly pay attention to the comedians at the Improv the last time we went because at the table 8 inches in front of us (if you've been to the Improv, you know you SIT ON the tables around you), there were 2 girls who made out the ENTIRE SHOW. And when I say made out, I mean, exposed body parts, extreme kissing, sounds, the entire thing. My husband and the other husband we were with didn't hear a word said the entire evening. I hardly did. I don't think his wife watched since she was farther away. So I completely understand the no kissing rule at SS. Also, the other thing I like is that at SS you don't have to walk through a smoky bar to get out. At SS, you can exit through the showroom door if you prefer a smoke-free exit. The comedy hasn't been the best, and we always find ourselves liking the opening acts more than the main performers. But half laughs is better than no laughs, so I'm happy to keep going, hanging out in my husband's arms for a while to see a free show and spend a bit on food and drinks. Overall, we enjoy it.

The food wasn't anything special but I did like the intimate setting and the comedians were pretty funny. I wouldn't want to sit up front though, or else you may get made fun of lol. There's a 2 item minimum per person also

I have been here 3 times within the past few month and I would definitely go back. They do weekly drawings for free tickets and I won 8! Upon arrival I received two special tickets for the "best seats in the house." They were two seats from the car "Jaguar" - so nice and comfy! The only thing I don't like is that you are required to purchase two items while watching the show (food or drink) and the food is worse tasting than bar food. However, this won't bring me down because I'm sure I will be back soon!

So, we came back here, ONLY because Gabriel Iglesias was performing. The wait to get in? It was fast. The wait to get our drink orders in? Not so fast. The wait for our drinks? The second performer was on stage by then. (We were seated about a half hour before the host got on stage) It was a packed house. Sold out show. But people who were seated moments before the lights went down were served their drinks before we were. Side Splitters had a policy of no photos and no video of the show, as to not spoil new jokes for Gabriel before his new DVD comes out later this year. There will be no warnings if you are caught, you will be simply escorted out the moment you are caught. The gentleman seated next to us was caught by the DJ when Gabriel walked up to the stage... and was not asked to leave. He was just told to refrain from taking more photos. Guess who kept taking photos the rest of the show while the wait staff watched? According to my boyfriend, the bathrooms stunk of cigarette smoke. Since this is a smoke-free venue, this stench should have been taken care of by now. Lets get to the seating now, shall we? I didn't think it was possible for the Improv to get topped for a packed-in-like-sardines type place. Two tables from us had their candle knocked down as a waiter tried to get through the "aisle" People were uncomfortably packed in to their seats. I *will* say, however, that the drinks were quite yummy and not very expensive. All in all, we only bought tickets because of the performer, but we will not be returning. Two sour performances in a row is enough for us.

Prices for food and drink are a bit high and quality is on par with movie snacks (got chips and salsa and they were straight up movie nachos, about the same portion size too). I would recommend just eating beforehand. I haven't experienced any other comedy club, so to me this was okay since I wasn't expecting much. Overall, not an A-OK, more of a C+-OK. They do bring in so good talent though. So kudos for that (main reason why rating is not a "Meh")

I feel like I'm the victim of a bait and switch. After I bought tickets online and I couldn't get a refund I got to the club and found out that they have a 2 item minimum, meaning you're required to buy food and/or drinks from the club. I'm not coming back.

Came in for a Sunday night show and it was packed! Staff was very friendly and sat us as they were closing the doors to start the show. The seating is tight but cozy and thankfully, we weren't too close to the front. I would say that Side Splitters stacks up with other comedy clubs I have visited. There is a good selection of items on the menu and they have a nice selection of cocktails that are priced well. The menu is mainly alcohol and snacks. There are a few sandwiches and and a couple of desserts. I had the Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini ($8.50) and thought it was delicious. The service was quick and courteous. They run a tight ship. We had constant refills on popcorn and drinks. There were 4 comedians plus an emcee. All were very funny. The 2 hour show flew by and our entire party had a great time. There is a two-drink minimum which includes soft drinks, etc. Great place for a fun evening out.

We went to Side Splitters because of a pretty decent Living Social deal and I'm glad we did or we would've probably never known about this place. Even though we literally arrived a few minutes before the show without a reservation they were very accommodating with giving us a seat. The seating is a little cozy if you're down on the main floor, but fortunately we got put in the front of the upper tier in the back which offers a better view. I think you're allowed to pick your seats if you reserve far enough ahead of time, so I would recommend the back unless you really like interacting with the comedians. Our waiter was extremely friendly and checked on us frequently throughout the show even though we just got a few drinks. The drinks are a little weak and expensive for what you get, but when the shows are only $8 for almost two hours of entertainment they have to make some money somehow, so I don't consider it a bad deal. Plus this way your waiter can actually make some money too. The in house and guest comedians were all great and we really enjoyed our time there. Since we didn't order any food I can't offer any advice on that topic, I would suggest you bring a jacket if you're easily chilled since it was pretty cool even with a nearly full house. I will enjoy returning to Side Splitters again soon.

I've been to this place several times. And each time whether it was someone famous or not I laughed my butt off. I'd definitely recommend it

No one likes laughing more than me & this place does it. While it is not as cool as the Improv in Ybor not nearly as asthetically appealing as the Improv, they do get the same caliper comics & local guys doing the intros are top notch. They could edit the opening film that dictates all the show rules though. It's bit too long. Love the place though. Come here 6-10 times a year!

Side Splitters fooled me out of $150 once. Never again. I don't take issue with the price per se. I take issue with the deceptive way in which the true price of admission is kept from you until a few minutes before the show is over. We were informed shortly before the curtain that we had not ordered the minimum amount of drinks and food for our table -- just at the right moment to ruin whatever enjoyment we may have received from attending in the first place. Afterward, a parking lot conversation with another party confirmed that they had the same experience. Apparently the tickets that I bought were not a pass to see the show. Instead, they were a secret contract obligating me to purchase some amount of over-priced drinks and crappy microwaved food. We interacted with four employees from the time we entered the door until we were seated. Any of whom could have at least allowed us to not feel swindled by being up front about the cost of entry. I feel sorry for the waitresses whose tips probably suffer as a result this practice. I just started to fly in to Tampa frequently to meet and subsequently entertain business clients. This is an old-fashioned, personal, and honest approach in sharp contrast to that of the proprietor of this particular establishment. Normally an evening consists of dinner at Bern's and a show at the Performing Arts Center. I was happy to learn of a local comedy club since they are great fun in other cities. I accept clubs that have entry fees. I also accept clubs that have no entry fee but, instead, require a drink minimum. I will not stand for a club that does both -- the latter charge being surreptitiously mentioned only long after admission. Another reviewer calls this "standard comedy club rules". I disagree. I'm not an expert but I've been to a half dozen clubs in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, London, Hong Kong, and Tokyo (comedy delivered in a language in which you're not fluent can still be funny. Who knew?), and I've never been caught by surprise like I was here. The headliner was funny. I wish we'd caught him somewhere else. Anywhere less shady. Side Splitters is now on my blacklist for its' disreputable business practice. I wonder if it's even legal.

Okay, went to the New Year's show w/ Happy Cole & Patrick Garrity. Happy was hilarious & Patrick did a bit about being so broke you can't fix the ac in your car-took me back to my college days. I told him later if he was wearing a garter I would have tucked a $20 in it! The part I didn't like came today. I got a call that I had been selected for "8 free tickets for you &your friends". The shows eligible were only this week. Fair enough. I called back, & had an interesting conversation with Joe, who advised me which shows were open for this but "we encourage you to go to the website to purchase your seats so you won't miss out." What happened to the free tickets? After a couple of clarifying questions on my part, he disclosed that the free tickets were available one hour before the show of my choice--if it wasn't sold out by then. I just had to show up & hope. Now, I really don't like someone not being honest with me up front about their motives. How about "since you're a previous customer, if you want to swing by one hour before any of these shows, we'll let you in free"? I don't even have a problem with the two item minimum. But to call me with a rather questionable maneuver like that leaves me with a sour taste. I'll probably go back, if there's a comic I want to see. But it'll be more difficult for them to make me happy now. Lost a little goodwill there, SideSplitters.

I was a bit iffy at first about going to a "Comedy Club," but my friend had tickets so I went. The actual room where they do the show is not huge, but a good cozy size. There is a 2 item minimum, so you should keep that in mind. The comedians we saw that night were not very well known, but definitely had the room laughing. it is a fun thing to do once in a while and definitely nice to do with a group. I believe you can make reservations and it is a good idea so that your group can sit together.

I have been coming to Side Splitters for live comedy for years and it never disappoints. We've seen headliners and local acts. Last night we watched Rich Guzzi, Hypnotist, and he was fantastic. We laughed the whole time. Such a talent. We couldn't believe how many people (even in the audience) were hypnotized. Our server, David, was attentive and friendly. Our drinks were good. I had the blueberry lemonade martini and loved it. My friend had the Dirty Martini and thought that was great too. Other drinks at the table were rum and cokes and beers. We bought tickets online in advance and didn't have to wait in line once we arrived. I'd highly recommend buying your tickets in advance. Ticket prices are very reasonable, so I think the 2 item minimum is very fair. You don't have to get alcoholic drinks. You can buy any two items on the menu including food or drinks. Relax and get ready for a fun night!

Side Splitters is a small comedy club located off of N Dale Mabry in Carrollwood. I've been there a few times and shared more than a few good laughs. There are always a few opening acts before the headliner comes out. Surprisingly, I've thought some of them were even funnier than the main act! I think it's great that there are ticket giveaways so frequently. It's an excellent way to draw in customers for the smaller shows. As mentioned in other reviews, the decor isn't the nicest. A little renovation would certainly spruce the place up! The two item minimum is pushed heavily, so I'm sure that's how they make most of their money. I don't mind it, since I would probably get two drinks anyway, but it would be nice if they went about it in a better way. The service also leaves much to be desired. However, I think the worst part is how close the tables are to each other. There is no room for personal space and you also have to sit with strangers. Parking is another hassle on busy nights since there are so many other businesses in the same plaza. I recommend arriving early and grabbing a drink at the bar or walking around to get some froyo before the show begins. Also, be forewarned: If you sit near the stage, you WILL get heckled!

Great comedy club, there is a two drink minimum (alcoholic or non alcoholic). The only downside is that if you don't feel like purchasing a drink, you have to. They are constantly giving away free tickets and discounts to non-special events. Nice meet and greet opportunity with the comedians afterwards.

They seem to get pretty good comedians there. The sound system is old and sounds bad. The place feels like it hasn't been updated since the 90s. Such a shame. If you're not sitting directly in front of the speakers or stage you won't be able to hear. Spend a buck and update the joint people!
