Being relatively new to Tampa, I had not yet found a Chinese take out that came close to what I was used to in Los Angeles. Until now! Shang Hai Take out is delicious. The dishes I had were not overly sugary as some Americanized Chinese food can be. They are generous with the lunch special portions, making them an incredible value. And importantly, they used fresh seafood! I ordered Shrimp with Vegetables, and it was amazing: huge, perfectly cooked, fresh shrimp and crispy veggies. I'm so happy (and relieved) to have found my new Chinese take out home!!

Average Chinese takeout. Don't know where all the glowing reviews are coming from. Food is very greasy, very salty, too much soy sauce. If you have to feed a bunch of people in a pinch, getting this food delivered would be better than fast food. But this place is no Yummy House. You have been warned.

Great food and quick take out while me and my friend were visiting Tampa, FL. It just took longer than it should have to order it due to the lank of understanding. Other than that one language barrier, I say go for them. It was our first choice in ordering take-out in Florida.

Excellent food, with humongous portions! I always order delivery from them and have always found them to be fast and prompt. Tonight I ordered some Shrimp Egg Foo Young, Pork Fried Rice and some egg rolls, and I was not disappointed. One egg foo young patty practically takes up the entire plate (and comes with steamed rice and plenty of sauce), and since I don't eat Chinese as much as I'd like to, I always order extra so it will last me for days. The shrimp is large and plentiful, and the Pork Fried Rice is packed to the top of the container and tasty. Egg rolls are nice and crispy. Of course, they always throw in ample packets of soy sauce, duck sauce and fortune cookies. If you live in south Tampa and are in the mood for some good Chinese food via delivery or takeout, this is the place to call!

Out of all the Chinese places around, this is one of the best. Lunch specials come with a can of soda and the portion sizes are great! The only complaint is the crab rangoons taste too much like onions. The pork fried rice is definitely the best around tho!

My husband ordered General Tso's chicken and I ordered Lover's Delight. The prices were fine and they were friendly, but the food was disappointing. The chicken and shrimp in my dish were good quality, but it lacked flavor. Even the mushrooms in it tasted like plain steamed mushrooms. I actually salted it to try to bring out some flavor. So strange! The General Tso's had no heat (hubby loves heat but I tried it - and I'm not crazy about stuff that's too spicy - and couldn't detect any heat at all. The sauce with it was watery. Not much rice came with the dishes. We also had crab rangoon which was crispy but all cream cheese and not much crab flavor.

Great Chinese! How hard is it to find decent Chinese food ? Seems impossible on the east coast but Shang Hai is on a level with SF Chinese places Try everything spicy Steamed dumplings are awesome

I think good reviews for the establishment r plants. Chicken rubbery, "steak" very dicey and the topper...3 egg rolls, 6 Crab Rangoon and was given one duck sauce.

The price was good and the food came out fast. The restaurant appears clean and the ambiance of the Chinese television show on the TV was good. I opted for the General Tso chicken and it was so-so at best. It was not even the slightest bit spicy and the sauce was extremely thick, which tells me they are using too much corn syrup. The chicken itself needed to be more crispy as well. The search for great Chinese in Soho continues.

Despite a deep appreciation for authentic ethnic cuisines, sometimes you just gotta have that Americanized version, whether its Tex-mex instead of a taqueria, or in this case, Chinese take-out. Usually the urge rises when I have my monthly binge of Law and Order: SVU, but whatever the cause, Shang Hai Take Out has become my go-to for late night chinese food. They offer your standard Chinese fare - orange chicken, General Tsos, sweet and sour, etc - in super well priced combos that are always taste delicious and fresh. Nothing every has too much oil, including the perfect eggrolls, and always the right amount of sauce. The only reason I took a star off is that anything marked spicy never really tastes spicy to me. Except for that, I'm a fan.

The spice on the General Tso chicken (ordered extra spicy) was delicious. I liked that the honey chicken came with the sauce on the side. The chicken was good. The rice is made differently than the other take-outs we've tried. I didn't like it as much but my husband did. The delivery was SUPER fast. The crab rangoon wasn't my favorite. It was mostly cream cheese with very little crab taste, and they weren't fried long enough, so they were a bit doughy.

Best Chinese takeout in the sunset/beach park area. The food has always been hot, fresh and delicious. There is a reason they have been around for 15 plus years!

We loved this place. The reviews made us choose it and it didn't disappoint. The food was very hot and fresh. The service was good. We even ate there, in the booths. It's not just for pick up. Definitely recommend the spicy Kung Pao chicken!

What a pleasant surprise. I'm usually disappointed by small Chinese restaurants with a huge menu, because there are typically issues about too much salt, too much grease, and not fresh tasting. This place was just great. The egg rolls are tasty and not greasy, and nicely flavored. No issues there. The crispy noodles are crispy and taste good. The chicken chow mein I ordered was delicious, nicely done and seasoned. The hot and sour soup was just right, with meat and tofu. They were efficient and pleasant and the food is a great value. They have traditional things on the menu, and some more modern things as well. The other customers I talked to really enjoyed their meals they get there. I would say, that if you feel like having this type of Chinese food, then this is the place to go. They do it right here. Congratulations, Shang Hai!

This place has changed ownership (again and for the better) about 4 months ago (June 2012). I had the house fried rice and the bbq ribs. Both were excellent. The rice is flavorful and loaded with shrimp, pork, chicken and veggies. The ribs were tender and delicious, their sauce is fantastic. I asked for a side of spicy oil and dipped the ribs in that...so good! This is a great spot for American style Chinese.

Wasn't very impressed by this place. I've been looking for a good Americanized Chinese food restaurant however I have yet to find any decent ones it's south or west Tampa. I got the garlic shrimp lunch special, great price but the fried rice was awful tasted like grease and burn remnants off a grill

In the mood for Chinese food today? Don't look far, this place is the bomb! I ordered the sesame chicken dinner combo. I placed my order around 930 on a Friday night and it was ready when I showed. The combo included delicious fried rice with some veggies and egg and they give you a free spring roll. Definitely will be back soon

Food is pretty good and fast. Owner is very nice. Great Mongolian beef. Egg rolls have real pork , not inundation bacon like some places. Szechuan chicken is a little too sweet.

My new favorite chinese take out! The owners are friendly. The restaurant is clean. The food is delicious. There isn't much more to say. If you live in South Tampa and are looking for a good NY style Chinese takeout restaurant this is it. **I consider myself an expert. I have tried them all in South Tampa. This one easily stands out from the crowd. Enjoy!

So after leaving bad reviews after our first attempt at Shang Hai-we decided to give it another try. We live right around the corner so it is very convenient. The second time we ordered from there, the food was on time and tasted much better. We enjoyed it the second time. (still not amazing but good) I also sent my bf there to pick up some chicken noodle soup when I was sick, and that was good as well. This past time(Feb. 2013), it took 1.5 hours to get our food and we live 3-5 blocks away. Yes...we could have just walked/drove there and picked it up but our card was already charged and every time we called the owner said it was a minute away. He had us and his delivery guy on different phones and was yelling at him while we were listening-very awkward. So...better than the first time when it was the other owners but this place is just not consistent. You never know what you are gonna get when you order.

Very good for the price, the staff is always friendly and the food is hot and delicious. My favourite is the beef and broccoli and the egg drop soup!

The owners recently changed and it's now owned by this young Chinese couple. The food is very fresh and delicious since it is made to order. It's mainly take-out, but you can eat there too. The sesame chicken, General tso's chicken, honey chicken and krab rangoon seem to be popular dishes here. Delivery time was good too, but they say they can be busy at times. I personally had the beef lo mein and found it to be quite good. :) I would recommend this place if you are in the mood for take out and are in the area.

Super friendly and very patient with me while ordering for my kids. The food is great too! They actually made my Szechaun Beef spicy.. and I don't mean white guy spicy. It was hot! Usually, when you say hot, you get mild. Best takeout in the area.

I judge Thai restaurants by the pad Thai. Of the 6 or more other Thai places in South Tampa, this place has the best. I also enjoy the Thai egg rolls. The staff is extremely pleasant and you are made to feel at home their. Only 4 starts at this point because I need to try more of their dishes. If you like Thai, give it a try.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
