Yes the food is Delicious, the service was average yet that is Okay the problem I have with this place is that we are told that the menu's are old and they updated there pricing so they said if the prices are higher on the bill don't be alarmed. I honestly think they only do this to people who use groupon so they can make the money back: its 2014 if you can't have menus with the current prices on them then you should not be in business. Again the food is good but as a customer I should know how much something costs before ordering. I will be back but I might try another Indian food place because I am annoyed with the pricing if they bought new menu's how much would that really cost them? I know everything I order will be 3 dollars more nice. What is your opinion of this? does it bother you or should I just suck it up since the food is good and take it like a man?

Great customer service from Nemesh and staff. Fresh herbs and spices in all dishes from soups, salads, and main dishes, a plethora of flavors. Mulligatawny soup is awesome, hits the spot. Curry is a must have, lamb chop special when available is well worth it. Appetizer platter is a great way to taste what Saffron's menu offers.

It's been awhile since my last review but definitely not long ago since I dined at Saffron. We've been going to Saffron for dinner and ordered off the menu. I must say the food does take a little bit longer to come out, but it's SO worth the wait since everything is made fresh! Also, I like the that the food takes time to come out...it gives me time to actually dine and enjoy a dinner date out, ya know? My husband and I ordered garlic naan, veggie samosas, chicken vindaloo, chicken basmati rice, and bombay aloo. All delicious! Then for dessert we had their rice pudding and mango lassi. Everything so good! Tons of flavor! We come here so often that I know the owner and she's so pleasant every time I see her, she's always there and I like that since it shows she cares about her business. I love Saffron and I know you will too!

Delicious everything! Ask the staff to pick something for you if you're unsure of what to get or feeling adventurous. You won't be disappointed. (Don't forget the naan!)

This is, by far, the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to in all of the U.S. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and their buffet (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday during lunch hours) is out of this world! The portions are very generous and the owners are delightful to talk to. I have been going to Saffron since the very first day it opened (I was a fan of the previous Indian restaurant in this location, but Saffron really put them to shame with my first bite), and their food has remained consistently exceptional. I've brought many people who were unfamiliar with Indian food, or felt they wouldn't like it. Saffon has made converts out of every single one of them! I feel blessed to live so close to such a wonderful restaurant. Keep up the good work, Sunita, Nimesh, and Saffron! I look forward to many more years of your fabulous cuisine.

Awesome experience! We visited many many restaurants before choosing Saffron to cater my sister-in-law's wedding. Sunita was very professional, and her food was by far the best. (We grew up in Houston so we know good Indian food.) When we went to the restaurant for a tasting, she made sure to give us her undivided attention and the food was fresh and yummy! Other restaurants made us wait and didn't make any effort to prepare a variety of dishes for us to taste...even though we set up a specific time (arranged days to weeks in advance) to do a tasting. Others told us we could order off the menu to taste their food...that's ridiculous b/c we want to try a variety and can't really do that if ordering off the menu. Are you expecting us to order 20 different things to do a tasting? Anyways, back to the food. Saffron's food was unique and we essentially used them for all our wedding events. Nimesh (Sunita's husband) delivered all the food on time and everything tasted fantastic. Our family and friends were soooooo impressed with the food and even joked about taking the food back with them. Everyone loved the food! We only had one minor miscommunication (it was nobody's fault really, we were wanting a corn chevvdo that was with fresh corn and she made a dry chevvdo...no big deal, esp since we had other items that were great!)... Some of the items we had catered were: samosa chaat (reallllly good and refreshing, esp with the warm samosa and cool yogurt), kati rolls (very tasty sauce with paneer, bundled up in a yummy roll), PBM (paneer butter masala)--it was slap-your-momma good, palak paneer (not overly creamy and had a very nice fresh flavor), malai kofta (again not overly creamy and seasoned just right), pav bhaji (soooo good, maybe better than my mom's...but don't tell her!), Bombay style Indian sandwiches (one of the best Indian sandwiches I've ever had...wish I had one now lol), gulab jammun (perfectly done...rich but not too heavy and not too sweet). We would use Saffron again in a heartbeat...my mouth is watering thinking about the food! I'm not sure what issues another reviewer had, I can only comment on our fantastic experience. The food is a little pricey (coming from our Houston experiences), but Sunita will work with your budget and the food is awesome...you get what you pay for! Just remember you have to be patient with them, as they run a full service restaurant and may not be able to get back to you immediately...we are all human after all! :)

The food is good however the service is terrible. If you choose to eat here, be prepared to wait for a long time. Took about 10 minutes to get a glass of water and our appetizer took about twenty. Good food bad service.

Evening dining experience Meal: Vegetable Samosa, Garlic Naan, Medium Spicy Vegetable Curry and Daal Tadka and Galub Jamun Classy atmosphere, service was fair and food was relatively good, however spendy. Nothing spectacular but not a dive. Would eat here again.

  • Nicole M.

The food here is so, so good. We've had a variety of things to eat - different types of naan, samosas, tomato soup (amazing!), tikka masala, korma, saagwala, xacuti, vindaloo, madras, butter chicken - all consistently delicious. It understandably takes a while to cook the food, so we opt for take-out, which is typically ready about 45 minutes after we place our order. The one time we ate dinner in the restaurant it was not busy, and the service was ok - not bad, just not particularly attentive. The restaurant itself doesn't offer a lot in terms of ambiance - not enough to lure me off my couch, anyway. Still, I highly recommend Saffron and will continue to eat here every chance I get!

Good, solid and tasty Indian food. My sister and I each bought a groupon a couple months back for this place and tried it out for the first time soon after. We'd been to a couple places in the area (Taj and another I can't remember) and had OK food in comparison to what I'd gotten used to having in Boston on a regular basis. This place, though, was better than most of the Indian restaurants we'd been to in the Tampa area. We got Chicken Tikka Masala (boring, I know, but SO good!) and requested that they make it "medium-spicy". The first time we went, the service was noticeably sub-par and the dish took FOREVER to come out. Our glasses were rarely re-filled and the waitress seemed like she had MANY better things to do than tend to us. The second time, though, was markedly better. They must have hired additional staff and the place was a bit more abuzz than before. The dish was GREAT! It tasted exactly like it was supposed to, but with a bit more spice than I'm used to in the dish (a welcome addition). They were a bit stingy with the rice, but brought out more when requested. We got garlic naan and it was standard quality and SO tasty. Also had a yummy mango lassi during the second visit to help cool off the spice a bit. Overall, impressed by the food and the service, on average, was average! We'll definitely be back!

I absolutely love Indian food and this is a solid place. I've been with my family a few times and we've always had a good time. The service is very good. Our water glasses are always kept full and all of our requests are quickly taken care of. There was also a really nice, calm atmosphere. With the exception of the mango chutney, which had these really big, hard chunks, the appetizers were great. We had the garlic naan (always a favorite for me) and samosas. I chose the goat xacuti for my entree and it tasted good, but it didn't blow me away. There were a lot of little bones and I felt like there was as much fat as there was meat. We had enough room for dessert for once and I really enjoyed the little portion of gulab jamun.

  • Kerri M.

The food itself is excellent. I've eaten here with friends and family a few times, but mostly do pickup at the counter, as yes, I will have to agree with the other reviews that the service is definitely lacking. It has even gotten bad with pickup orders. My last time here, I ordered over the phone and was told it would be 45 minutes. I arrived five minutes after the 45 minute marker and ended up joining about six others at a table on the side of the restaurant waiting for our pickup order for about 25 minutes. Again, the food itself, I have no complaints with. My only remark (not really a complaint) is that the food is really spicy. I always order my dishes mild or medium and the food comes out very hot. Next time, I'll try adding multiple "very" to my request for mild and see how it turns out. Because the food is so good, the awful service isn't going to keep us away. But the day the food goes bland like it has in so many other Indian establishments in the area, we stop being customers.

  • Anibal F.

Amazing... Great flavor, service was excellent. If you are going for the first time make sure it's for dinner, while the buffet is good you need to order from the menu. I don't live in Tampa anymore, and it's safe to say this is the restaurant I miss the most. If you are in the area this is a must try...

  • Lainey C.

I have no problem referring people to Saffron. The owner/chef, Sunita, cooks every dish to order so what's brought to your table is hot, spiced just right, and delicious. The dining room was recently updated and gives the restaurant a more polished look. Give Saffron a try and you'll thank me later. Also tell them that Bill sent you. The mention won't get you anything special but what the hay?

  • Robert O.

Sunita, the owner is a delight to have as owner, chef, and friend in the New Tampa/ Cross Creek neighborhood. Even if you are in South Tampa, it is worth the drive to visit this gem of an authentic Indian restaurant in Tampa! The original and freshly made sauces and individual dishes will let you know immediately that the ingredients are fresh and made with experience and goodness. Sunita learned her cooking trade from her mother who taught her culinary skills when Sunita was a youing girl. Saffron makes vegetarian, vegan, and all the various meat dishes of lamb, goat, chicken, eggplant, chick peas, and desserts. Soon to arrive is the wine and beer that will accompany this delicious Indian treasure in Tampa Bay. Clean, pleasant, and delicious. The Cross Creek area also has one of the highest Indian populations in Tampa and you can often see the local Indian people patronizing Saffron which speaks for itself. They are a scrutinizing crowd and certainly cast their vote for Sunita's kitchen!

  • Jose M.

Excellent quality of food, from the naan to the curry and tandoori chicken, all of the items on the buffet tasted fresh and full of flavor. Along with that, the decor and ambiance is very nice and sets the mood for a great meal. Only downside is the location is a bit hidden in the plaza behind the Shell station but it really is a gem which anyone looking for some excellent Indian cusine in the Tampa area, should make a trip for.

Thank you yelp for the heads up on this place. Best meal I have had in a long time. The owner is great and he must be reading the reviews. My wife does not like spicy food so he made sure it was very mild. Also he said it takes a while as the chef makes everything from scratch. If you aren't sure where to go to dinner then go here. It was my first time and I will be back often.

  • Sowmya A.

Food here is great, but highly disappointed with the service & hospitality Indian guests receive here. I live within 5 mins from the restaurant and a frequent visitor to this place.Everytime I notice that Indian guests get least attention compared to non Indian guests. Specially I had a v.bad experience on the valentines day this year when I went there with my family for dinner here and that prompted me to write this feedback.Along with the maincourse I ordered a drink and I never got the drink despite of me checking with the staff about it for *3* times.Given the heavy rush that night,it's expected that they might have forgotten, but not getting your order even after checking for 3 times???Also I guess there was a complimentary desert planned for the guests that night, but we never got one.I am not so sure about this, but I am highly disappointed with the service and attention that I got here on the valentines day and probably would not go back here.Never mind how tasty the food is,but for a restaurant hospitality towards the guest is equally important too!!!

Saffron is the best Indian Restaurant I have been to in the USA. I lived in England for 3 years, and I learned what good Indian should taste like - exactly like the food served up here! We tried a lot of dishes: chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken korma, lamb rogan josh, bhindi masala, and palek paneer - oh, and regular and garlic naan. They were all excellent! I had the lamb "Indian hot", and it was as hot and spicy as it should be - not for the feint of heart. The rest of the dishes were medium, but quite nicely spicy. Each dish was loaded with meat and served in lovely individual copper pans. The staff was very friendly - they let us eat even though they were supposed to be closed for an event later that evening. It's a long drive for us, but we will definitely return.

The best Indian food I've ever had. The Goan Fish Curry is my favorite dish, but the other three dishes I've had are close seconds.

  • Vanessa W.

I ordered the Masala Tea, Paneer Masala, and Cheese Naan. The cheese naan was delicious and was probably the best I've ever had. I ordered the Paneer Masala mild but it was incredibly spicy. I had my dad try some of my dish (he enjoys spicy food) and even he said it was quite spicy. The tea was terrible. It was supposed to be a spiced tea and instead it tasted like english breakfast with milk. Two different waiters asked how the tea was and I said it was 'okay' and that it wasn't very spicy and they seemed kind of apathetic about it. The food overall was good. They gave us a free dessert of mango ice cream because of the overt spiciness but the servers could have been more responsive.

My first time. I loved the food the New Zealand lamb is out of this world very tender, no fat or grease, or fibers, lots of it and good size serving, the Basmati rice is the best mine was Lamb Saagwala has spinach great spices, order mild, medium, hot or extra. Yumy. My friend had the Chicken Korma, in creamy cashew nut sauce. Dessert also excellent and the best part was groupon. Go it is great. I forgot the naan bread baked in clay oven.

By far the BEST Indian food in town. They've got a lunch buffet that is great for those who aren't sure what they will like or have never tried this style of food. I highly recommend!

Let me make this clear. There is no longer any exceptional Indian cuisine in the USF area, trust me I've looked. With the closing of Angithi, management change of Cilantro, there is a void that is unfulfilled by existing Indian restaurants new or old. What I suggest is taking the time to drive 20 minutes to Wesley Chapel to Saffron. The prices run 15 for chicken dish, 17 for goat/lamb, but well worth it for the quality of food. We ordered butter chicken and goat kadai. Both were so excellent with deep and complex flavors. They were also so distinctfully different that I am really excited to come back to try the other dishes. Curry portions always seem small, but they are packed with flavor. It's similar to filipino food where you compliment the full flavors with a lot of starch like rice or naan. Halfway through we were stuffed and boxed the rest for a 2nd meal later. The basmati rice was perfect and the Garlic naan is some of the best I've had. It had the fluffiness and the crispiness I always look for. We ordered vegetable samosas for appetizers. They were big, beautiful, and amazingly flaky samosas paired with a fresh cilantro sauce and tamarind dip. I wish I took a picture but I forgot since they looked so delicious. It brought me back memories of samosas at my friends house. The building is well kept and has character, the service was personal and exceptional. We were told stories of our server's college experiences in India and how they had catered to the Indian club at USF. That the students chose Saffron as the food sponsor instead of closer establishments is telling. I personally will be taking a longer expedition for Indian food from now on.

I love this place! It's one of my favorite restaurants in Tampa. They have the BEST Indian food in the New Tampa area. Lunch offers daily lunch specials. The Nan bread is delicious. I always get korma. It's amazing. I've had several conversations with the owner, he is great. Very friendly and inviting. Would highly recommend this place!

Came today after work because I've been craving their chicken madras. This definitely "hit the spot"! I ate literally everything's including all the basmati rice and the order of garlic naan. Definitely get the garlic naan ~ real chopped garlic and cilantro in buttery, crispy goodness. I ordered mild this time but I'm going to order medium next time as the mild was really mild. I just wish the chicken madras was a bigger portion because I love the sauce with the rice. Service was excellent and the server started a nice conversation with me.

A total rip off restaurant! Be careful of this scam.. First, they'll lure you with a few entries under "specials", the entries that are not listed their menu and then they will charge you $30 for that entry, that's for a single appetizer dish. You have been alerted!!

Finally a great Indian restaurant close to home. I have tried unsuccessfully in the past to find an Indian place where we loved the food, success at long last. We went at lunch and were delighted to find a very descriptive and extensive menu. No guessing here what you will be getting. When enjoyed the meat samosa with tamarind and mint sauces. Crispy and delicious. I tried the chicken Korma which was a generous serving of large pieces of very moist and tender white meat in a heavenly cashew nut sauce. This came with a large serving of seasoned rice and naan. My husband went for the daily special lamb chops. He makes lamb chops are had stopped ordering them out because he had been disappointed in the past. Not here. He couldn't stop with his yum hum. I tried one and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We also tried the Indian beer and the spiced Indian lemonade which we enjoyed very much. Already making plans to come on a Friday lunch so we can try the buffet and sample more dishes. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed and a big shout out to my Yelpers for pointing us in this direction.

First time here, off to a bad start... We are party of six... They have no room. Yet they have a number of tables for four that they can put together. they are not doing it... We waited 20 minutes, they are finally getting to it.... I hope the food is worth it. If they are customer friendly, it's not showing. 10 more minutes they finally sat us. We almost left.....we left

Recommend Saffron for their lunch buffet!! The food had more of a kick than most Indian buffets but that is a good thing!! Full of flavor and cooked great!! I will definitely come back one evening to try the regular menu, but for now I will come back for the lunch again!! Staff are friendly and the place is quiet, just my sort of dining!!

This place is horrible and the owner is very money minded. We had a groupon coupon and we even showed it to the guy working there he said it's fine. At the time of billing owner did not accepted the coupon and even treated us badly. There is no doubt that the place and food is horrible(never try panner tikka it is pathetic) , the owner and his son misbehaved with us,this attitude for customer is not good for business .I will suggest to try Tabla or Udippi.

Talk about great service, great food and great prices. This place is a diamond in the rough. My wife and I love checking out different cultural foods. We were in hunt of authentic Indian restaurant and boy oh boy did we find it. The owner welcomed us and gave us a full on detailed description of all the foods on the menu. We are vegans, so that can make eating out a real chore. But, let me tell you - the owner did not mind explaining the food and what they cook in great detail. In fact he assured us that they could make any dish not only vegan, but delicious as well (which can be hard for vegans at times). We tried the Chana Masla with Naan Bread. We have been back again and again and again every since. While we were sitting and waiting for our food another new customer walked in asking if he could make a "party platter" order. The owner said "NO PROBLEM!" That is nutz, what restaurant do you know where you can walk in and make a party platter order with no advance notice? Well, you can at Saffron. You need to go now and get some of this tastiness for your whole family. FOR REAL SON!!!!

Nothing fancy about the restaurant, but the food is fantastic and the staff is super friendly. Vindaloo (even though Medium) is a lot spicier we've had at other Indian restaurants. My husband enjoys it regardless. I get the chicken tikka masala like it's going out of business and it's great at this location. (I like to get it mild and mix in a little of the vindaloo sauce in it...yum!) Their onion and chicken pakora appetizers are both tasty too. I've never seen it super busy here, which is a blessing and a curse. Blessing for me of course, b/c it's easy to get a table and the food comes reasonably fast. Curse for the owners though. They are so so so nice and I'd love to see them get busier! When you're in the mood for a tasty treat come on over and support them! Cool Indian grocery store next door too.

This place is great. I've spent some time in India and the food is pretty close. Always clean and friendly. The food does take a while to come out, but it's worth it. Priced fair for an Indian place. Paneer pakora is great. The butter chicken is my favorite.

The perfect place to satisfy your Indian food craving! The food here is excellent. Not that I know what "home-cooked" Indian food tastes like, but I would imagine it would be a lot like the food at Saffron. My husband and I come here once or twice a month, and have been coming for the past 3 years. The service is always great. The wait on food isn't too fast but it isn't too slow. The manager is friendly and always has a conversation with us when we come. Sometimes he will recommend different dishes for us to try. Our regular meal is the Chicken Madras which is a slightly sweet curry. We've tried other curries there but keep going back to this one because it's so good! The garlic naan & meat samosas are great, & I really like the rice dessert that they have. We have also come for the lunch buffets and have not been disappointed.

I have not had Indian food since I moved to tampa from New Jersey. I am so happy to have eaten here. This is genuine excellent Indian cuisine. There are so many layers of flavor in the food. I had the chicken curry, the roasted eggplant, the breads and a meat appetizer, all excellent, not good, excellent. I had my dishes medium heat. Even the white rice was great. Very nice host, I'm so happy that this restaurant is so close to home. Please support this restaurant, it's as good as any restaurant on Indian row in NYC.

The food was decent. The paneer tikka appetizer was nothing special and over priced. They gave us raita with our order, we ate it thinking it was complimentary. When we got the bill we were charged for it.

If you want an authentic Indian lunch or dinner experience made by a chef not a cook, this is the place to eat! The food is meticulously prepared, for example, in connection to the goat curry, the owner explained how preparing the meat is a 3 hour process. No wonder the goat curry was spectacular! My husband and I are both from New York and we've been to many Indian restaurants and we both agree that Saffron is a hidden gem. I had the Navratan Korma and it was delicious. If you want amazing Indian food, you have found your restaurant! Enjoy!

Food and service are always fantastic! Best Indian food in the area! The onion pakoras and chutneys are great, the naan is to die for, and the daal tadka has become my favorite meal.

  • Roland D.

Food was okay.. As a person who grew up in Dubai, this is not good Indian food!!!. The chicken tikka tasted like it was cooked 3 days prior.. ( it probably was). Mutton curry, the mutton pieces were not good. If you guys are doing Indian food do it properly, be consistent. Most of the Indian restraunts here are only good for veg, since it's the cheapest ingredient to buy. You can forget about chicken, mutton , beef, they will skimp on meat. People are willing to pay good money for food if it is fresh and taste good. Don't be cheap!!!!

Okay. I live in the area and I have witnessed the switch of management of this place. The old management was great but these guys are better. Everything is on point from butter chicken to chicken tikka masala to korma. Eating the garlic naan is like eating a cloud... So soft and it melts in your mouth. Owners are friendly. The wife is the cook and she is 5 stars. I gave this place 4 stars for two reasons. The husband that happens to be the manager attempts to cross sell other menu items way too frequently. The items are expensive and I have had equally phenomenal Indian food at a cheaper price. But I still don't settle for cheap if that means the quality drops. Just forget recipe.com and go here.

Vegetarian and Vegan options. The owner is very nice and accommodating when it comes to vegans. They will make substitutions where possible. You can get the dishes spiced mild, medium or hot. Come during lunch for the buffet to try a little of everything.

This restaurant has the best Indian food in the entire Tampa Bay Area. I've sampled Indian food worldwide, and Saffron Indian cuisine ranks among the best. I have had the Chicken Korma, Chicken Butter Marsala, as well as the Chicken Tikka Marsala and all are excellent. If you are craving delectable Indian cuisine in the Tampa Bay Area, it is well worth the trip from wherever you live.

I initially visited Saffron as part of a book club and the staff was wonderful in accommodating our large group and coordinating our food coming out at roughly the same time. On that visit, I had garlic naan (which was fabulous with lots of crispy, dark bits) and the Chicken Sagwala. WOW - what an experience. The Sagwala is a creamy, velvety sauce of creamed spinach delicately spiced with all sorts of curry goodness. It's like the chicken was lovingly wrapped in this amazing spinach goodness. Loved it and it was even better the next day when I polished off the leftovers for lunch. After such a good visit, I happened upon a coupon and convinced the hubby to migrate across Tampa to try this place. Between the long car ride and not being a huge fan of Indian cuisine, this could have been a very sad evening out - but Saffron lived up to my hype and more! I again went for the Chicken Sagwala and the hubby enjoyed a few bites. His eyes lit up at the large number of lamb options on the menu and he went for lamb biryani, which was excellent with lots of nuts and raisins throughout. Overall - great place with good service and great food!

Service was horrible, and the manager is very rude. My sister and I went for dinner one night and we were excited because we had a groupon to use. The waitress first of all, took too long to take our order and she was not approachable, the staff in general were not welcoming at all. The manager was nice at first and then when we told them about our groupon he got very rude, especially when the amount that was left on the bill wasn't high enough. The food wasn't bad, I'd actually say it was good but the overall atmosphere made us decide we were never going back.

Service was awful, they don't take their own coupons and the server doesn't listen to anything you tell him. The food was just ok but it doesn't make up for the lack of service this place has.

This small Indian restaurant located in the Cross Creek strip mall is very dark and romantic. It seemed like a great place for a date. To honor that my wife and I decided to order Saffron's vegetarian dinner for two. For a reasonable price we received two soups, two appetizers, bread, two entrees, and two desserts. For starters we received a spicy tomato soup that was so good I immediately began plotting how to recreate it at home. After that we enjoyed the vegetable samosa, bhel (puffed rice, tomatoes, onions, and chickpeas), and papdi chat (flour chips with potatoes, onions, and chickpeas). For the main course I ordered the Bombay aloo (potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic, cooked in a clay pot). J-Fur requested the Chana Masala (which thankfully did not have too much cilantro). Both really great items. The dessert wasn't anything impressive. I really enjoyed all my food so why only three stars? The big reason is that they constantly (and by this I mean on our three visits there) overspice my wife's food. I'm cool with spicy stuff. If I ask for it medium and it comes out hot, no big deal, I just drink extra water. My wife...not cool with it. She has always ordered her meals without spice, being careful the last few times to hold an extended conversation about how little spice she wants in it, and yet her dishes still come out too hot. We wind up wrapping it up and taking it home for me to eat later. I would totally be on board with four stars if they could figure out how to make it accessible to people with sensitive tastes. Otherwise Saffron will have to be a place where I go it alone (and me eating out without the wife never happens).

Great atmosphere, amazing food! Moving here from Cincinnati Ohio I was looking for an Indian restaurant to match "Ambar India" which is the best restaurant in Cincinnati for Indian food. This restaurant is even BETTER!! Such great food and the staff are so kind and caring. The chicken tikka, vegetable pakoras, and naan are incredible and don't get me started with the Indian coffee! So good!

This restaurant isn't the prettiest place to dine but the food is very good. If you can't eat spicy food, ask for mild. Everything we ordered was good, espically the buttered nann! You must also try the mango lassi, it's a yogurt drink with mango, it's yummy!

The food here is consistently amazing. Everytime we go there is something new and delicious to try. Whether it is the delicious cabbage, the beans which are green beans cut so small they were almost unrecognizable, or the paneer there are many delicious vegetarian options to be had at a variety of heat and flavor profiles. This isnot to say the I don't love the meat dishes. The chicken curry is beautifully spiced and the tandoori chicken is so moist and tender. The service has improved, but was never an issue for me. I am also particularly fond of the rice padding - my guilty pleasure.

Hands down, the best Indian food in both the Tampa and Orlando areas. The chef happens to have trained at the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai (a pretty big deal), and the food reflects that training. My family and I love whatever dish we have tried here. The food is flavorful, and not lacking in heat. A word of caution to those who think they can take the heat: this place really brings it. I can eat pretty spicy, but the medium spicy is all I can take here! My fav dish is the Madras shrimp, which has coconut (shredded, not milk), and juicy, delicious, shrimp. The chicken tikka masala is also very good. I have yet to try their buffet, but can't wait to do so. This place is pretty expensive, but you will get two meals out of each order, and the quality is worth it. I couldn't take a star off, because the food is that good, but the service is horrendous. There is literally one server, and the owner who service the entire restaurants, including to-go orders. And, it gets pretty busy here. The server is nice when you talk to her, but she doesn't smile much and seems standoffish when she's working. It's obvious she can't handle the job, and I really hope they bring in someone more seasoned. This is one place that makes my mouth water just Yelping about it...

I went there again with my friend from NYC and we both agreed it was definitely good food. They offer a variety of spicy levels from mild and sweet to really spicy. I love spicy food so this place actually offers me the option. I think it would be interesting if they offer a spicy curry challenge like they do in Brick Lane in NYC. Word to the weak stomached, order mild.

We've been looking for a "go to" Indian restaurant in Tampa and after a year of disappointing meals, we finally found one. The food was excellent complete with superb fresh breads, first rate entrees brimming with rich authentic flavors and well balanced seasonings. Going back today for some vegetarian fare. A little hard to find, but worth the effort. The owner is both charming and genuinely hospitable. Go to Saffron for the real deal.

Great naan, tasty masala! Butter chicken had good level of spice. Service was a little slow, but restaurant was busy during peak Friday dinner hours. Overall, great dinner. Would have been 5 stars had we gotten water within the first 10 minutes we were sitting at our table.

I had Indian food here for the first time and it was amazing! I had the chicken korma and naan and I was not disappointed. The Groupons are a great deal. I am however alarmed that though the food is really good, the restaurant seems to be slacking when it comes to health inspections: restaurants.wtsp.com/saf…

Went on a Thursday around noon thinking there was a buffet, no buffet. Ordered strait from a lunch menu. With only two other tables occupied, still took about four minutes to be seated. Food I ordered was "medium", it was nuclear! Could only eat the naan and rice, which were fine.

They really bring the heat at this place, and in my opinion, that is a good thing. The issue has nothing to do with the food, prices, or decor but instead with the customer service. While the owner is a wonderful guy and always visits our table, we have had the worst luck with the waitresses on multiple occasions. I think that if they remedy this problem, I could add an extra two stars.

Good food and very friendly staff. Cost can be a little pricey but well worth it. If price is a concern, you can order the daily special or go on the weekends for their buffet. Every dish we've had has been delicious. Their garlic naan is to die for. We drive one half hour across town just for the food and we always recommend to our friends.

Being from Los Angeles, I always wanted to find a delicious, authentic Indian place. We never heard of this place before and, after seeing a Groupon for the restaurant, decided to give it a try. We bought the Groupon and headed over. The place was hard to find at first. The sign is hidden by a palm tree and the restaurant is behind a car wash place. Between my boyfriend and I we had sweet lassi, mango lassi, onion pakoras, chicken korma, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and plain naan. The curry entrees also come with their own Basmati rice, which is also very delicious. A lot of food that we willing took with us for lunch the next day! Everything was super delicious. I enjoy my tikka masala very hot and let them know that I don't want any of that "white people hot". I want authentic hot. They made sure that my curry was spicy. It was perfect. It was just the right amount of spices. This is authentic as you can get in the area. Would we go back? Yes! Would I get the same things because they were so delicious? Yes! Am I eating the leftovers for lunch today at work? YES!

My wife and I went there last night because we had a Groupon. The restaurant is a store front in a small strip mall behind a car wash. The food was good. The service was terrible. The restaurant is seriously understaffed. There was one young lady who was the hostess, she also took all of the orders, both telephone take out and in house orders. Although the restaurant was more than half empty it took 10 minutes to get seated. It hen took more than 35 minutes to get our food once we ordered. It took 3 requests to get some water and 3 more requests to get our check. What suprised me the most was that when I ordered a shrimp dish she told me that the price for the dish was $3.00 more than what was on the menu. In all of my years of eating in restaurants that was a first. The restaurant is nothing to get excited about. The decor was very plain. It looked as if they took over an old chinese restaurant and put up some indian decorations as a last minute thought.

This place has really good Indian food. We ordered the veggie samosas, butter chicken, cheese naan, and regular naan. Nothing disappointed us. The samosas were flavorful and not oily, which was great. The cheese naan is amazing, and so is the regular naan. The butter chicken is so flavorful, definitely one of my favorites. Overall, this is a wonderful Indian restaurant in a nice location. I definitely recommend that you try them out!

Love this place! We started with a samosa chat. Wow. It was just so good. So many delicious flavors that went together perfectly. For our main course we shared 3 plates so we could have a bunch left over for lunch the next day. Chicken korma, chicken butter masala, and Bombay aloo. All were really really good. Best leftovers for lunch the next day too! I think our server was also the owner. He was really nice and took the time to explain some dishes we were not familiar to us. We explained how I can't have spicy foods and he assured us he could have the dishes cooked however we preferred. Great service and yum food. We will be back ;)

Not friendly, rice is good but not enough for meal, then they charge you for more. I never needed more rice in any Indian restaurant to order for my meal. Not going there again. Be aware the price what you order not to get surprise. And don't get tricked always asking customers to add good review here

I was initially introduced to Saffron by my girlfriend, who gushed about their naan as well as their buffet. Well, after going back several times (for both the buffet, dinner, and most recently their lunch special), I can say that Saffron is the best Indian cuisine I've had in Florida. Saffron's food is exceedingly well seasoned, and I don't think I've ever had a dish that was below expectations. Some of the varieties that were surprisingly delicious including a pumpkin/coconut curry-type dish, and their Madras curry is absolutely amazing. What tops off the experience is their naan, which, compared to most other Indian restaurants is absolutely the best naan around. (This may be a bit subjective, but I prefer my naan warm, fluffy, and with the tiniest bit of crunch). Add on the friendly and accommodating service, and I couldn't recommend them enough! Most recently they've added a lunch special that is also quite excellent, and while they don't have the buffet on weekdays, this special more than makes up for it with the variety and of course, the naan!

Found this restaurant through a groupon mystery deal and so glad we did or my girlfriend and I would have missed this gem! I have never had indian food before but this was a real treat. I got the lamb curry, the lamb was tender and juicy and perfectly spiced. The wait staff was friendly and very attentive. Absolutely will be back on my next visit to Tampa!

Bit rude nd unprofessional ... the guy at counter asked to wait while he sets the table.. while we wait another one comes and says .. last order on my table is at 10 ... its closed ... the closing time is 10:30 .. I reached at 9:55.. waited 10 mins .. nd then refused food ... not good ambiance either ....

Great food, nice manager and good waitress, but with the CL Deal they do require Dine-In but fail to note that in the standard data field on the CL Deal. "Limit one certificate per party, regardless of separate checks. Not valid with other specials, promotions or discounts. Not valid on holidays. Tax and gratuity not included. No cash back. No cash value. Please present certificate prior to ordering. Expires: 04/17/2014."

Went here with a Groupon on a Friday night for dinner. We got: Mango Lassi Bhel - Appetizer Garlic Naan Shrimp Madras - Entree Goat Xacuti - Entree The mango lassi was good. Very thick. It looked like it wasnt made right at that moment though because I saw our waiter pour it out of a pitcher he took out of the fridge in the back. My husband said he wished it was bigger for the price. The Bhel is something I have never had before. It was puffed rice with chopped tomato, cilantro, onion, some peanuts and supposedly some tamarind chutney. It was weird tasting, kind of spicy, kind of sweat. And the puffed rice was kind of soft from the tomato. We ate it all, but its definitely something I would not order again. The Garlic Naan was amazing. Very fresh and crispy but soft too. Perfect. Shrimp Madras was ok. The shrimp were big and plump and I got a generous amount. The sauce was pretty good. But it had lots of little herbs and things I had to keep picking out. I feel like the sauce could have been better, with more seasoning or something. The Goat Xacuti was ok. Not much meet and lots of bones and herbs to pick out. The sauce was pretty good. But again, I've had better. My husband didnt like it. All in all: This place is ok. We spent $50 for the whole meal. My husband thought that was too much money for the quality of the food we got. I probably would not go here again. The service was fine. The restaurant itself left much to be desired in regard to decor and maintanence.

Saw roaches under table. They charge extra for chili and onions, which most Indian restaurants have for free with meal. Also, I ordered 2 entrees and was brought out 2 rices with it. Then after 2 minutes some man comes in from the kitchen and takes away 1 of the rice with no explanation and just leaves. I really did not like that. Waitress was nice. Food was ok.

The service here is absolutely awful. The waiters look like they are in a jail, nobody ever smiles or greets. The orders also take forever to come out. But, food is great. Probably the most authentic Indian food I've had in Tampa. They really need to work on the service though. It is so bad that just for that reason alone, I'm never going back.

Coming from that part of the world i can safely say that this is the best indian restraunt iv ever been too. Great tasty food, fresh ingredients used and friendly owners. This is my spot in this new city. This is a gem iv found in tampa ! The garlic naan is killer !!!

We were craving Indian food, so we decided to try out this place using a groupon deal. The food was good. Most people get the tikka masala, but you should try the butter masala, it was delicious. We asked for medium spicy and it came out perfectly. Service was great and the owner was very friendly.

We've never come for the buffet, only for dinner (many times!) Look out on Restaurant.com for gift certificates, we've used them here before. Make sure you're clear on how spicy you want the food. As an American, they usually doubt how much spice I can handle and even when we say medium or spicy, they usually make it mild (probably afraid I'll send the food back for being too spicy). Regardless, even if they do add less spice, the food is absolutely delicious. Our favorites. Appetizer: Samosa Chat: perfectly spiced, nice tangy tamarind sauce, chips are not too crisp or too soggy, nice balance of flavors. Main course: Chicken Korma: nice cashew based sauce, chicken cooked perfectly. Bread: Garlic Naan: absolutely perfectly done, nice amount of garlic, not too crispy, not too soft. Tea is also pretty good here. I have to mention, the last time we went, there was only one waiter and probably only two people working in the back. He took everyone's orders perfectly, managed to feed everyone in what I thought was record timing. And he even sat a group of people who came in after the restaurant was supposed to be closed. We were seriously impressed. We'll be back :)

Worst chartering Service ever, never order food for your party/occasion from here. Lesson Learned ALWAYS SIGN WRITTEN CONTRACT first. 1. They did not bring what we order, they messed up 2 items. -ALWAYS SIGN WRITTEN CONTRACT. Our biggest mistake was she wrote down our order on piece of paper and we did not sign any paper therefore we had no way to prove that items they brought were not what we ordered. Make sure they charge you for food and number of people that's written in contract. They overcharged us for 50 extra people. We verbally said there is going to be 200 guests and we only had 170 guest. They charged us for 250 guest. They claimed they brought food for 250 people however we had no leftover when we only had 170 guests, I wonder what happen to the additional 80 guest food. 2. The owner lady is crazy and RUDE and NOT PROFESSIONAL. When we tried to tell that they did not deliver what was asked for she started yelling "GIVE ME MY MONEY OR ELSE I AM CALLING COPS" in front of all the guest. She did not handle the situation in professional manner. Instead of listening and trying to understand what we are trying to say she kept yelling saying same sentence over and over again. There was no reason she had to insult us in front of our family members. She was going to get her money for 200 guests; she did not need to create a scene. 3. Food was good, but horrible Service. They do not provide plates, cutlery, utensil, or even table cloths. ALWAYS SIGN WRITTEN CONTACT. MAKE SURE the food items are correctly listed and the number of guest is correctly mentioned in the contact. BIG LESSON LEARNED.

Went here with my family a few months back. I was looking to try something not only tasty, but exotic. I got what I asked for, although maybe not as spicy as I would have liked. I ordered the "Lamb Xacuti". From wikipedia... it is a curry prepared in Goa, India, with complex spicing, including white poppy seeds, sliced or grated coconut and large dried red chilies. It has a very unique flavor and goes well with the wheat Naan bread (BTW the Naan bread disappears quickly if you have a group of people you may want a mixed basket or two). Overall, the staff was friendly and kept the water glasses full. I did not have to pay so I am not sure how bad the prices were.

I went here for the lunch buffet. I called a head to make sure they had a buffet Friday because during the week it's lunch specials from their lunch menu. I was quoted one price but when I got my bill it was a different price. Higher than expected & I did inquire about the higher price compared to when I just called on the phone. The guy told me due to expenses. Wow,,,,, his expenses went up in price from the time I call there to the time it was for me to pay. Really!!! This was such a SHADY answer!!! :-( BIG DISAPPOINTMENT on this final visit!!! The buffet was good compared to allot of Indian buffet that I have experienced around town, however, it was EXPENSIVE for a weekday buffet. It was $15.47 with tax & my one small cup of chia tea. Remember I did call before hand & the price was different when I went to pay. Mmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,NEVER, EVER, NEVER again will I be visiting this EXPENSIVE buffet with the SHADY owner. This was my experience with Saffron Indian Cuisine today. You have to be your own judge,,,,,,,GOOD LUCK!!! I will NEVER purchase a GROUPON for this restaurant either after reading some of the reviews about the SHADY practices with their GROUPON. I have provided one of the many reviews a TRIPADVISOR REVIEW from someone who purchased a GROUPON for this restaurant. GROUPON BUYER BEWARE!!!! Reviewed March 18, 2014 We understand a Groupon usually entails second-class service in restaurants and this was no exception. We have to mix-up Valentines and Birthday dinners, so this was a little fun jog out of our way for the night. You know how some people have their house arranged so you walk in their front door and you're immediately in their dining room? This is how this felt: the lunch-buffet carts we all pushed back along the wall and we were gestured (no-words) to sit along the opposite wall. Fine. We did arrive about 15min early for our reservation, so if they were truly booked, it's understandable, but no one asked who we were. At our res. time, they asked if we were *** and, well, Yes, we are, but interesting assumption of them to make 15min ago. After being seated, we looked over their fairly extensive menu for another 15min before being asked what we would like to drink. Upon mentioning our Groupon, our menus were politely removed and we were given the prix-fixe menu. We understand this, but that should have been mentioned before-hand, like in the Groupon. So, we went from leather-bound 8-sheet book to a xerox copy 8.5"x11" sheet of paper for our menu. Fine. Anyway, with coupons we expect same-level service allowing us to sample their restaurant for the first time as their courtesy to us, their new customer, and we expect to respond-in-kind with tips reflecting the original-value but that is difficult to do when you get treated almost as second-class. Yes, they were busy, and the gentleman in charge presented us with a check about 10% less than the amount our coupon was valued at. After mentioning the coupon, he politely fixed the receipt and said we would only owe the tax (a few dollars). So in the end, we ended up paying more on a ticket that was less than the advertised value. (paid $30 for meal they quoted as "worth $60.25", but ticket before discount was $56.xx for which we paid $3.43 for the tax - so, we didn't get the value advertised - pretty clever of them!) A line out the door of pick-up orders had similar issues and the poor staff was clearly in-over-their-head for the night. Good luck to all on a different day! Again, the food was good and a very good introduction to Indian cuisine for us. We will choose a different location and hope to receive same level of service as the food.
