Diabetics at Pizza Hut

Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.

Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:

You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.

Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

High Blood Pressure at Pizza Hut

Fast-food restaurants like Pizza Hut are not recommended to dine-in if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure. Best pizza in Tampa as far as I'm concerned. I prefer Detroit style. Believe it or not, Detroit has some amazing food and I was happy to find some homies that know how to REALLY make good pizza. I drove from New Port Richey to get it so you know I'm hardcore about this review.

You know how when you read numerous positive reviews and praises for a place/product it makes you want to try how amazing it is? Well that's what happened last night. Placed a delivery order for 2 boxes of 8' detroit style pizza for me and my Team and I asked it to be delivered in our hotel. I was told there's a lead time of one hour for delivery, an additional $4.5 for delivery charge (they said given the distance), and an assurance that the pizza would still be hot by the time it gets to us. An hour later, pizza arrives and we were too excited to try Tampa's 'best' pizza. Upon opening the box, we were relieved that it was still warm and so we were excited to dig in. At first bite, I was expecting fireworks. Nothing. Second bite. Nothing. And so it went. Yes it was good, but, and I give this all my love, there was nothing spectacular about it. Not sure if it was too much sauce or how soggy it was, but it just didn't knock me off my feet. Quite honestly, I felt a little embarrassed, because I announced to my Team that we were having the very best pizza in Tampa that night. I guess I could take that back. 34 dollars later and I even threw in some good tip, I haven't even received the receipt that was supposed to be emailed to me. If this promise was delivered to me (there was a promise of a mobile phone taken picture and a later scanned receipt, either way I would get my receipt), it would have made me feel less dissatisfied. Would I order again? Sorry, not even an option.

TL;DR -Fun, cheesy pizza party in your mouth The only thing better than eating pizza is eating pizza with cheesy bread sticks. The only thing better than that is Pizza Squared because it tastes like you're eating both at the same time. From the crispy edges to the gooey center, every bite of the rectangle shaped pizza was like big cheese party in my mouth. It's twice backed The $15 for the 8-square pepperoni pizza was worth every penny and a welcomed change from the regular chain pizzas that I usually get. One of these bad boys can feed 2 hungry guys or a small family. Regardless, everybody will be fighting over that last piece because its that good. Plenty of deals for lunch and dinner. For right now, I'm excited knowing I still have 2 pieces waiting for me in the fridge

On a rainy evening after sitting in a doctor's office for three hours, I was starving and not wanting to cook. I had seen Pizza Squared pop up on my Yelp feed a few times and it was on my way home, so I decided to stop in. There were two people working and one person waiting for their order when I arrived. When you check in to the restaurant on Yelp, you get a free can of soda so that's a nice little bonus. Being unfamiliar with Detroit style pizza, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious this pizza was! I ordered the 6 Square with pepperoni and a side of garlic sticks. The garlic sticks were just okay, but the pizza was so great! It was extra cheesy and there is extra sauce on top that is super flavorful. I loved the crisp edges and how the pepperoni was under the gooey layer of cheese. This is a very unique pizza and I will definitely be ordering from Pizza Squared again!

It just doesn't get ANY better than this pizza. No corporate crap ingredients that taste like burnt plastic and look even worse. Fresh and hot ingredients. A great crew that loves what they do, and valued pricing in a great product. This is the best pizza in the Bay Area and my number one spot for a truly great pizza pie. oH and you must try the buffalo wings. They are amazing.

Im a little Bias, I am a Detroit Native. this place serves Detroit style Pizza so I can confirm that it is... Fact: Detroit style squared pizza. I love all the Detroit stuff and I get happy. The only thing is . They need Faygo and Better made chips. They seriously need to get a different kind of cheese stick with the crunchy batter not the thin batter. I'll be back since I will be at school in the area.

4 Stars because, while not a looker, this place has opened my eyes to my love of squares. Holy cow- I didn't know Detroit Pizza was even a thing, but I'm glad that Brett (Tampa's CM) suggested this place while I was visiting Busch Gardens. There's little to no curb appeal, but this little spot, nestled in a strip mall, is a helluva find! We got a pepperoni square pizza. When it came I saw that this style pizza has the tomato sauce on top of the cheese and the toppings under the cheese (so- flipped!). I was a bit skeptical but then I took a bite. WUT. It was soooooo good!! There were so many crusty edges and the flipped toppings were fabulous! Everyone at the table agreed that we wish this place existed in Orlando! Did the location look a bit rough? Yes. Did it smell a bit rough? Uh-huh. Did the pizza make up for it? You betcha!

Delicious Detroit style pizza!! You must try. Located in a strip mall that doesn't look like much and not decorated to grab your attention but it's worth the visit. The crust was deliciously cheesy and cooked perfectly. The sauce on top was so yummy & the ingredients were fresh. They also serve wings which I might have to try next time. I'm looking forward to visiting soon again!

What a surprise to find a decent slice of pizza in sunny Tampa Florida. Pizza Squared was located right around the corner from my Hotel. The pizza here is great, wonderful combination of a fluffy crisp crust with a cheesy topping and a great tasting sauce! Eat in, take out or delivery. I think you will not be disappointed

Still the best pizza in town! But our secret is getting out! My sweet hubby and I absolutely love love love the pizza and wings.

Yes, the reviews on this place appear to be on point. They offer the hand tossed style and the Detroit style, being this was my first visit, I decided to try both to compare the two. The hand tossed was decent, nothing really to brag home about, it didn't taste much different than other hand tossed pizza that I've had in the past. The Detroit style was a totally different story. This Pizza was pretty unique. I loved everything, from the dough, the crust, the cheese and most important, that sauce on top is just right... You add all that up, you have yourself a home run. Would stop by again for sure. Skip the hand tossed and go for the gold.

To be completely honest, I was very skeptical of this place after seeing the pictures. The pizza just didn't look appetizing to me. I kept avoiding my girlfriend's requests to try it out so she took matters into her own hands and ordered it while I was working late. We shared a 6 Square pepperoni pizza and I was really surprised by how cheesy it was. The sauce had an extra zesty taste to it that I've never had anywhere else, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It was very good! I saw that they have wings so I'd love to try those. The garlic sticks were good too but nothing special compared to the pizza. I had no clue what "Detroit-style" was before this but now I'm hooked!

I am a New York pizza snob, but I very much enjoyed this pizza. The decor is.. basic. The place was very hot. But the pizza tasted very good. It's served up Detroit style with a flavorful tomato sauce on top along with gooey cheese on a nice square crust base that has just the right combination of crunch, doughiness and flakiness. The place itself is in a nondescript strip mall and there isn't much in the way of decoration or ambiance, but somehow it has character and, more importantly , serves up something special. The big guy serving us was a bit intimidating, had headphones in his ears and wasn't super friendly, but he ended up being helpful and added to the place's charm with his own style. This is NOT a fancy place. It just serves up really good pizza that's different and special. They also serve wings so I might have to try those next time. This is a Tampa foodie gem.

Pizza craving late afternoon today and stopped by this place since we were in the area (and the good Yelp ratings). This restaurant is in a strip of businesses located right across from the Yuengling beer factory. We ate there since there were a few tables inside. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and explained what a Detroit pizza was all about. We ordered a 6 square Detroit supreme. In literally 10 min or so, our pizza came out and was placed on the steel pizza holder. I'm not a huge cheese person, but the cheese on this pizza was delicious. Not cheese overload like a Chicago deep dish though. The bread was delicious. Toppings good. We finished about 4 squares. Each slice is pretty filling. Since pizzas are cooking inside, the restaurant gets pretty warm. I would do take out next time. Service is friendly and speedy. Definitely check out this place and try a Detroit square.

I thought it was good. The sauce was fantastic. But I got pepperoni on it, if there was 8 pcs I would be surprised. I would go back.

I checked yelp for pizza in Tampa and stumbled onto this gem. I'd never had (or heard of), Detroit style pizza before, so this intrigued me. I got 2 6-square pies, and both were excellent. The sauce being ladled on top was interesting, but delicious. The cheese is what makes this though. Edge to edge, and deep. The dough is excellent as well. I was expecting a heavier Chicago style dough, but while thick this forms a light, chewy crust. The toppings merely add to the doughy, cheesy, goodness. Don't expect frills inside, the decor is Spartan. Go for the food and you won't be disappointed. Two 6 squares more than fed two hungry adults. But you'll want leftovers so keep that in mind. Prices were reasonable for good pizza, this isn't Domino's, so you'll spend $25-$30 for a couple pies. Money well spent.

It's true. I love Detroit style pizza and am officially a convert. I've tried this place a couple times by now, so I'm a pro-orderer at this point. One request: Please remove round pies from the menu!

Rude management when trying to redeem my soda for checking in. Mediocre at best pizza. Sauce reminded me of a pizza lunchable. Did not do Detroit justice.

This place just had my car towed.....AFTER ORDERING pizza....I PURCHASED pizza from this place for an event in the same plaza..... only to find out about an hour later that my car was towed..... the "managers" Joe Hall and Chris Claypool weren't apologetic and even said they remembered me coming in to purchase..... After telling me there is a twenty minute parking limit..... which there is no sign for..... and that I should have stayed by my vechicle, I will be taking them to small claims court and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to receive my money back that I paid for the towing cost!

The pizza was good - we had the supreme, which had very good meat and was full of toppings. The crust was average and got a little soggy in the middle; it also seemed a bit undercooked. The dining space was very limited and there seemed to be little or no air conditioning. Drinks were served in cans with no cups of ice. The people were very nice.

After a long day at Busch Gardens we wanted something non theme-parkish that was fast. I have to say, I had no idea what Detroit style pizza was but I figured let's give it a try. Um.. YUM! It's completely different than New York so don't expect that thin crust. It's thick crust upside down. Get a side of sauce:) What makes this place amazing though was the service. It's was kind of close to closing but the staff didn't care. Anything we wanted they said. Apparently the wings are to die for so I'll put them on the list for next time. It's a hole in the wall and a cold non 9 dollar beer would have made the wait more fun but all in all a great choice for a inexpensive meal. And that service!!!! Fantastic!

Pizza Squared is a Detroit-style pizza place conveniently located right off of I-275 and near Busch Gardens. The restaurant is more suited for take-outs--the kitchen and counter take up most of the restaurant. In the remaining space, on one side is a row of chairs (presumably for people waiting for their take-outs), and on the other side are two tables--one 4-person table and one longer table for about 12 people. Because my co-worker and I visited during our lunch hour, we were short on time and called ahead. The restaurant took about 20 minutes to prepare an 8-square, mushroom and onion pizza--not bad. The pizza was everything my co-worker promised and more. The bread was perfectly toasted with a soft, gooey inside and a slightly burnt, crispy outside. The onions and mushrooms were slightly burnt (tasty!) but juicy. The entire pizza was covered in cheese and dollops of rich tomato sauce. I still say Eddie & Sam's is the best pizza place in Tampa, but mainly because I prefer the NY-style pizza over the Detroit-style pizza. For Yelpers, I recommend making use of Pizza Squared's offer--one free can of soda or a dollar off of your order. Also, because the restaurant charges 8.99 + 1.00/topping for a 6-square pizza and 12.99 + 2.00/topping for a 8-square pizza, per square, ordering the 8-square pizza is cheaper than ordering the 6-square pizza. We plan to return very soon.

The Detroit style cheese pizza was to die for!!!! The outside was kind of sketchy looking (we went at night) but it was beyond worth it! The service was great, they were really friendly.

Total rip off 8 square is half the size of a normal large pie , and $2 per topping ! RIP OFF !

This pizza was delicious. Loved the crust, sauce and how the square shape maximizes the space in the box. Very Eco. You'd never know the place was good looking at the strip mall it's in from the outside. Do go there if your in the area.

Went on the recommendation from a friend who is a true Michigander. He thought it was pretty authentic to the Detroit-style. For those not aware of it, it's sort of like Chicago-style but with a slightly thinner crust and a cheesier, crispier outside. It was quite tasty. I enjoyed the nice flavor of the cheese that was melty and had a nice chew. The sauce seemed a little watery, but it could have been from our car ride home. I highly recommend the square, Detroit-style. One thing to keep in mind is that they put the toppings under the cheese, so you don't get the same crispness of pepperoni that you would expect, but that's more a function of the style of pizza.

My family and I had some of the best pizza we've ever had last night. Not only that, both gentlemen were extremely kind and accommodating. Even our 5 year old super picky eater ate everything on his plate. We will try to make it in one more time before we head home. We wish you guys could open a store in Eugene, OR cause we'd eat there at least once a week! Thank you!

You might be tempted to see the overwhelmingly-great reviews here and be skeptical. I must admit that I was, at least a little bit. However, this no-frills pizza place knocked it out of the park. We hit it after an exhausting few hours at Busch Gardens (redundant, I know) and we were famished. The owner was a wonderful man, asking us if we had dined there previously and how we found the place. When I told him it was via Yelp, he encouraged me to check-in to earn a complimentary beverage! Did it. When the "Detroit Style" pizza arrived, it was amazing. Scrumptious dough, tangy sauce, fresh toppings, and delicious cheese. We'll definitely return!

Quickly becoming a contender for my favorite pizza in Tampa. I never knew Detroit even had a style of pizza, but I guess I'm a fan. "Detroit style pizza" is a hybrid of New York and Chicago style... thicker than NYC but not a deep dish. Like many of my favorite pizza joints, they put the sauce on top. A bit pricy given there are so many decent $5 or $6 pizzas in town, but worth the extra $10 for the quality. The buffalo wings are excellent too. Check in w/ Yelp and get a can of soda. Don't plan to eat in unless you live far away. The most recent visit I made, there was a loud homeless guy who wouldn't stop harassing a woman at the counter and the table next to us had a pile of uneaten pizza crust and boxes stacked. The guy behind the counter was all by himself, so can't blame him (assume he's the owner). But the fact I still give the place 5 stars obviously shows good the pizza is.

We were staying nearby and used yelp to find PIZZA SQUARED. When I arrived they were getting ready to close and I was going to whimp out and just order a regular hand tossed round pie. After I paid I waffled and the dude encouraged me to try the "Detroit square" and that I would not be disappointed. He was right. Great, unique pie. Loved it. Saved a slice for lunch the next day and it was still great. RECOMMENDED.

Being from ny I was worried about Detroit style pizza. It was not bad at all. Quality crust and cheese. Sauce was good, the take out box was a quality box. The restaurant is in a somewhat seedy location rundown looking strip center but it's worth checking out. Go with the square pie for something different.

  • Tara J.

I was hesitant about ordering from here, since I've never had sauce on top of my pizza. I decided to give it a try though, and was pleasantly surprised. I took the advice of other reviewer's and didn't go in to dine because it's so hot. I had my 6 square delivered, and the delivery guy was even nice! He explained the difference between the pizza and traditional styles, and how they use Wisconsin cheese. It was delicious!!! I'm embarrassed to say that I was going to save part for lunch the next day, but couldn't stop eating! The delivery guy said I would be back, and he was so right! Love it!

Good story: on Valentine's Day I was thinking about love. I thought to myself "what do I love? Well, I love pizza" so I decided that I should finally try this little pizza joint. Not only do I live in the neighborhood, I get sporadic Pizza Squared flier advertisements placed on my apartment door somewhat often and put them on my fridge to remind myself to go... but I had still not been there! So after a small battle with traffic I decided to make the stop on the way home. Yes, the truth is that I went and got a pizza for one on V-day. Don't judge me. I did have plans for later that night, but I was hungry at that moment and wanted to try it, so why not then? Pizza Squared is located in an unassuming, kind of run down (sorry) strip mall on 30th street not too far south of Fowler. I feel bad for the businesses on 30th because they have been doing road work on that street for what seems like forever, and it's a huge pain to turn left when you are traveling north on 30th. You basically have to illegally force your way between traffic cones and hope no one notices. I can't wait til that project is finished but chances are it never will be. Anyways back to the restaurant.... It is small with some seating but it seemed that most people were getting take-out. I wanted to try the square pizza but the cashier suggested it might be too big for one person (yep, one person call me out) so I got the 10-inch pizza and a free topping by checking in. You can also get a 10% discount by mentioning their facebook ad, but I didn't see that til afterwards. Price came to around $7.50 before tip. (Side note: apparently, you should tip at take-out thanks to a frustrating YELP talk thread that suggested people who don't tip for take-out are jerks, alright then thank you YELP.) The service was just fine. So... the pizza itself was good! And yes, the 10-inch is more than adequate for one person. I had leftovers which was nice. I especially liked the sauce, the soft crust and the cheese. I guess that means I liked everything! It didn't taste like take-out pizza... it tasted like pseudo italian restaurant pizza, if you know what I mean. Or homemade pizza where you actually make the crust. Anyways, I recommend giving this place a try and I will certainly be back. I still want to try the actual square pizza. May have made a mistake by not doing that, but it was still yummy. I'd say four stars for pizza, five stars for price and yelp discount, but I'll give them five overall because they are a local business and local businesses are awesome! Definitely check it out. Even if it's just a pizza for one.

Why 4 stars? Because square pizza is apparently tastier than most round kinds. --- --- --- My first visit to Pizza Squared was a lesson in assumption for me. I had assumed that every pizza was squared, but that was because I didn't use the combination of my eyes/brain to comprehend the menu. The pizza was above-average, but I wanted to go for the namesake. So I returned to PS, and specifically asked for the non-round pie. It was very different than a typical pizza, and with the differentness, came awesomeness. I'll definitely be back, and my eyes have been opened to a thing called "Detroit Pizza."

Was on vacation in florida. This place was near my hotel. Probably the top 5 best pizza I had ever. I live in nyc and have had lots of different types of pizza. The store owner is so friendly and pizza is so good. What more could you ask for. Fair prices great pizza and great service.

I'm originally from Detroit & as much as people wouldn't think it, we actually do have amazing piZza, it's more like Chicago style- This pizza place is really tasty & very similar to up north, but I would like to add that they need to deliver the dam pizza in a mobile pizza warmer to keep it HOT upon delivery!!!

Very good pizza, I would get it again. Not much of a dine in restaurant but still very good.

I feel like I just got unlucky, but my cheese pizza was very undercooked. This pizza was all dough in the middle, I imagine because of the copious amount of cheese and thick crust it is difficult to cook all the way through. I'll probably give it another try, but it was disappointing. Don't forget to ask for the USF discount!

I'm in pizza coma heaven. That pizza was delish. Pillowy crust, crispy on the edges, greasy but not too greasy. After seeing several of my fellow yelpers check our this place I knew I had to as well. I arrived around 615 to a perfectly prepared ooey gooey yumminess. Fresh out of the oven, I grabbed some napkins because I knew I wouldn't last all the way to westchase without digging in (and I was right). Good thing I don't live near by, because I can see this place being my neighborhood pizza joint. Go with the original Detroit squared pizza. It's as great as everyone says it is. Back to the diet tomorrow....until then, ill eat pizza squared.

My experience with Pizza Squared: -I placed an order through Facebook. -Proceeded to their website to make the payment. -Received a confirmation advising my order was placed. -Waited an hour to receive my pizza and it never arrived. -Called and they were closed at that point. -Called the following day and the guy said "Oh our minimum deliveries are now $15 not $10." Mind you it clearly states min of $10. -Stated I could either get a refund or actually get the order that I paid for the previous day made. Advice: -Don't take money if you can't supply. -Get with 2014 and set up your website to take both the order and the payment. -Perhaps call a customer back if you can't produce what they requested? -Under no circumstance should a customer have to call you to advise that you owe them a refund for a service that was not received. You should know already know that, or is it OK to receive a $14 online payment and just sit pretty? -& Finally, the most obvious one, if you make someone wait on a dinner that never arrived the very least you can do is comp it when informed of how royally you F**KED up. Cyahhhh Pizza Squared.

This was my first visit here. I walked in with the owner as he unlocked the door. Very friendly we chatted while he fired up the oven. I ordered the six square pizza, pepperoni, mushroom. It was worth the wait. VERY good. Told him that squared pizza was first or second on my flavorite pizza shop. I know my next visit will be even better.

My boyfriend and I came up to Tampa from Miami and were looking for some late night food after leaving Busch Gardens around 10:30 pm. We saw a man with a sign on the corner before leaving that said Pizza Squared so I yelped the place before deciding to give it a try. The wings are deliicccioouusss!!! Plus the pizza has to be one of the best I've had in a while!!! Not too much sauce, easy on the cheese and surprisingly I didn't feel disgustingly fat after eating it like I do with most pizzas. Not to mention you get a free can of soda with check-in :-). Definitely recommend and definitely will be back if I'm ever in Tampa again!!!

  • Jennifer C.

I have never had Detroit style pizza, and I must say it was pretty delicious! They give you a complimentary garlic bread if you like their FB page. The wings were ok, I prefer mine more crispy but they are big and meaty. They gave me teriyaki instead of honey garlic, but they were good! Their buffalo style was kind of just mild sauce, but overall I loved the pizza. It was ready in 15 minutes which you can't beat! I would definitely give the place another taste!

    (4)
  • Garnet F.

Pizza wasn't ready on time. Had to wait 15 mins past the time we were told to pick up. Then the pizza wasn't cooked. The middle was still like raw dough.

  • Deneille D.

My son and I were home on a Sunday afternoon and felt like having pizza. But I didn't want the same old generic pizzas from Pizza Hut or Domino's. I found this place on Yelp and decided to try it out. The pizza was fantastic! We ordered 2 New Jersey style: 1 peperoni and 1 peperoni, sausage and green peppers. My son and I were in heaven and the order was delivered with steam still rising off the crust. This will definitely be one of our go to spots from now on!

  • Ileana R.

Food was delicious and service was awesome! Came in because of the good reviews and loved the pizza and the wings.

  • Mahdy S.

As one of their staff members described it, their pizza is in between Chicago style and Sicilian. I got the 6 square Detroit style pizza with green olives and mushrooms. The bread is crispy, yet soft without much of a crust. I don't usually eat or finish the crust anyway so that worked out well for me. Quality of cheese is good and the sauce, also good, sits on top of the melted cheese! Toppings were great and I'm glad that they have green olives which always add more taste and flavor compared to black olives. By the way, I dined in on a Saturday night. Seating is limited, but I was the only one eating in since most people order pick-up or delivery over the weekends anyway. The gentlemen there are very nice and informative. They also make traditional round pizzas, but for the sake of trying something new, go with the squared!

    (4)
  • Joe S.

The pizza was great, but EXTREMELY SMALL for $17. It was like a personal pan style pizza. I was shocked when I ordered a "6 square" and 8 wings for $25 and they handed me this tiny box. The pieces are about 1.5 inches squared. (See the picture I posted of the pizza with a fork next to it for comparison.). Very good flavor though, which is why I gave it 2 stars. The pizza is thick and doughy, which I like. I've always called that Chicago style but they call it Detroit style. I guess that explains the price...so they can bail the city out of bankruptcy. Anyway, the wings were also small and a little over cooked but they're hot honey garlic was flavorful. All things considered, I do not think I'll be going back....unless their prices come down significantly.

    (2)
  • Joseph L.

Fantastic ingredients! I'm not convinced that this Detroit upside down method is better than normal, but the cheesy crispy edges and very very good sausage made for a fine, fine post Busch Gardens dinner!!

    (5)
  • David D.

The square style pizza was really good. The corners were the best. The cheese was crispy at the edge of the crusts and the crust was close to deep dish. We had the meat specialty pizza. I will definitely go again.

I'm from St Pete and wanted to try this place out with high remarks...very disappointed. Bought 6 squares and order of garlic sticks $23. It was ok..would have been a lot better if I was drunk. Forgot my condiments when I reminder her twice. She was busy stuffing her double chin. Never will I come here nor recommend anyone.

There's only one pizza place (i.e., Eddie and Sam's) that can compare to Pizza Squared, and I refuse to place one above the other. The pizza I had from PS was fantastic. I haven't had anything like it before. I got the Detroit-style pizza with tomatoes, mushrooms, and onions. I've never had sauce on top of the pizza before, but it was great. The pizza doesn't have much of a crust. It look's like it has been baked in a pan. I think the best part of it all is the bread. The cheese, sauce, and toppings don't sit on crusty, dry bread. This bread is thick, soft, and delicious. Pizza Squared is well worth the trip. And this goes without saying -- get the square (Detroit) pizza, not the hand-tossed pizza.

    (5)
  • Camaron A.

My second time here this time I ordered a second smaller 6" "square" Hawaiian with bacon for my biz associate and I of course if anyone who reads my reviews knows I am pizza purist so I ordered the 8" Square with just cheese. The guys there are very friendly and know their craft well, my only small complaint is that I wish they had other locations either in Pinella's or southern hillsborough. My friends pizza was good but again I don't do toppings on pizza and this pizza can stand on its own with out flavor enhancements aka toppings. Pizza was again excellent and I am sure I will be back in the near future.

Great Pizza as advertised. Ate there with three kids. Owners were friendly, food was great and the Busch Gardens tips were excellent also. Brought back memories of my days loving in Michigan. Definitely will be back.

  • Mark H.

I'm going to go against the grain here and rate this joint a 4 star. Reason being, they need to take the hand-tossed pizzas off the menu. I walked in for the first time, and what I see are pizza boxes on the wall indicating their sizes: 10", 14" and 16". Judging by the sizes of the boxes, I determined that we were going to each about 10" worth of pizza. What they don't tell you is that the pizza boxes on the wall only correlate to their hand-tossed pizza. So I drove all the way out to 30th street and got stuck with a shitty hand-tossed pizza. I ordered a Detroit style pizza after I realized what the hell had happened, but it was too late. I had just spent $20 on freakin' pizza. They really should get into the habit of asking people if they want hand-tossed or Detroit style. Also, there were only two people working (on a Saturday night), and one of them disappeared around the time our pizzas were done cooking. The other was on the phone taking a $200 party order, so our pizza literally sat at the edge of the oven for a good 10 minutes. However, once we got the pizza, all previous bad memories were erased. Look at my lists and where I eat, people. I love me some NY-style pizza, but this stuff here is what pizza dreams are made of. Do they use Green Leaf cheese, which is inferior to Grande? Yes, but they pile it on thick and slap the sauce on top, which completely transforms the sauce's role on a pizza. The sauce becomes a topping that acts like little saucy Oasis patches amongst a desert of cheese. You look forward to biting into them! Unlike a regular pizza where the sauce is taken for granted because you get some with every bite. Team up that oddity with the ridiculously crispy edges from the square pizza pan and you've got yourself a winner, folks. Hands down, one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten in my life. Side note, I told a friend from "The D" about this place, and she reported back to me that it was "true to Detroit pizza" and similar to a place up there called Buddy's, which apparently is the bee's knees. Go get this pizza, and be sure to specify DETROIT STYLE. P.S. Don't expect to be wowed by the interior décor either. It's pretty cheesy, no pun intended.

  • Pat D.

This place has very good food and the guys are really friendly. If you don't like a thick crust stay away from the Detroit style, but if you do, get it! I had never heard of Detroit style pizza before these guys so I can't comment on the authenticity of the Detroit style, but I can tell you it's delicious!

    (4)
  • Elana L.

Thick ooey goodness! Order the rectangular Detroit style pizza! There is cheese everywhere and then the toppings are all in two straight lines down the pizza. If you check in on yelp you get a free can of soda.

Ridiculously delicious pizza! Stop reading this and go there now! Seriously! GO! NOW! === THE GOOD === Everything! The pizza, the wings, everything! If you've never had Detroit style pizza before (like us) then make sure you order that instead of traditional. === THE BAD === The only potential negative is that they have limited seating for dining in (three tables each with four seats), but get it to go if they're packed!

I have to thank Yelpers for helping me discover Pizza Squared. I was trying to find a local pizza joint and escape the chains that surround the USF area, but also find something cheaper than Wood Fired that I can afford on a budget. Yelp brought me to Pizza Squared. The setup is nothing too special, but reminiscent of your typical carry-out pizza shop. The man at the counter was very friendly to me. I decided to order the Detroit-style pizza after reading Yelpers rave about how delicious it is. The man at the counter told me that it could feed 2-3 people, but I was skeptical at how that would translate to me. Turns out he was right. This pizza was loaded. Pepperoni and gooey cheese inside. Caramelized cheese crust and marinara sauce on top. It was absolutely delicious and incredibly filling to the point that I only finished about 3-4 out of 6 pieces with a struggle. It tasted way better than the New York style pizzas around most Tampa restaurants and it was affordable as well. It didn't take long to come out and the man at the counter was very polite and conversational during my stay. I checked-in on Yelp and found they had a Yelp Deal, which the man at the counter told me was not put on Yelp by management at the restaurant, but he nevertheless honored it which I thought was a very nice thing to do because I certainly would never demand something like that as a Yelper. I do admit I had to look-up Detroit Style pizza on Wikipedia to make sure it was a real thing after visiting, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it there and then to rave about it to my friends the same way Yelpers did to me. My only hope is that more people will find this little pizza gem and help spread the word so more Tampa diners can learn about the awesomeness that is Detroit-style pizza.

By far my favorite pizza place in Tampa. I always get the 8 square Detroit style for myself . Crust is thick with deliciously crispy edges. Manages to have that gooey melty cheesiness and not be overly greasy like most others. Been eating here every Sunday.

Pizza Squared is AMAZING! Not just at making pizza, but at starting arguments in my household!!! So I am from the Detroit area originally. To me, there is no pizza as delicious as Buddy's Pizza (it is a restaurant chain in the Metro Detroit area). That being the case, I read Ben O.'s ROTD a couple days ago and FREAKED OUT like a little girl that just found a REAL LIVE PONY under her Christmas Tree. I checked some of the other reviews and looked at some pictures and was so FREAKING PUMPED that I could get something close to Buddy's Pizza here in Tampa, only about 10 minutes away from my new apartment! I could try and describe this pizza, but Ben O. did a wonderful job. It is like inside out pizza and I absolutely love it. I got an 8 piece square pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and pineapple. It was delicious, the sausage was solid, and the chunks of pineapple were thick and juicy. Most importantly, the PIZZA IS SO VERY FILLING!!! I was as stuffed as a Thanksgiving Turkey. So now onto the second thing Pizza Squared is amazing at...starting arguments in my household. My fiancee is a Tampa native. She loves to bash Detroit, and the north in general, for just about anything she can. Here are some example. "You have bad manners because you grew up in the north and they only care about training you to work in factories....Your friends up north drink too much because the winters are so cold and sucky that there is nothing else to do but sit inside and drink." She has plenty more north bashing within her, but those two are the insults that currently come to mind. Well yes, of course she has to BASH MY NORTH PIZZA TOO!!!! "The cheese smells funny, it does not smell fresh, it must come from a factory in the north," she complains. I screamed out, "ARRRRGGGGGG, BLAST YOU!!!!! The cheese does not smell funny, you just have an ultra-sensitive nose!!!" Well regardless of whether the cheese smelled funny or not this, pizza was very VERY very VERY good!!! It would not hurt for them to double check and make sure the cheese was fresh. ALSO, I would love the input of other Yelpers, let me know if you think the cheese smells fresh. I am very tempted to give it a full 5 stars, but here is what is holding me back (besides the cheese issue and the fact that Buddy's is still a bit better --- but this is the closest I will get to Buddy's in Tampa): they could do a better job spreading the sauce in a more even manner across the pizza. The edge pieces hardly had any sauce and the middle pieces had more than enough. I probably should have pulled a spoon out of the drawer (or used my finger and just told everyone else I used a spoon) and spread the sauce more evenly myself. The inconsistent sauce spread may just be a one time issue, like the cheese. Nevertheless, I will be back, as I really dig this pizza, BIG TIME!

This place is SO GOOD! The 6 squared pizza was the perfect size for me and my hubby. We also shared some delicious wings - but seriously the pizza is so good! We ate in the restaurant and the staff was very helpful and friendly! The prices are so affordable too!! Love it - will definitely go back!

I am a fan of Pizza Squared Detroit-style pizza. I especially like the carry out special 6 Square Cheese for $7.99. It is delicious! I save half for the next day and it warms up well. The crust is especially good. The only thing I might suggest is to have some small chunks of tomato in the sauce, but I may just ask for tomato on my next one. I love the pizza at Pizza Squared and would recommend it. One note - I did have some concern with cleanliness and a bad smell recently at the 30th St. location. I may try the other location for comparison. The ONLY pizza place to eat at in Temple Terrace besides Cappy's. I ordered a six slice pepperoni and it was mind blowing. I've never had the Detroit style before, but it's something entirely different, and this place does it right. Amazing sauce, thick and doughey crust, and quality gooey melted cheese. The crispy caramelized cheese on the edge is definitely what makes it. I'd put this up there with Taco Bus and Dunderbak's as a USF staple. I'll definitely be back.

  • J W.

Would not go back. It is different. If you like greasy deep dish pizza, give it a shot. If you don't and are int the more traditional Italian pizza, you will be disappointed.

    (2)
  • Jon P.

Pizza was good with a flavorful buttery crust, though as a Chicago native I'd call the Detroit style more of a blend between deep dish and pizza bread. Sauce was good as well... Good for carry out as the dining area is small and doesn't really have much ambiance. If you walk in during the evening your first reaction will be...this place is bright! Pizza was quoted for a 15 minute carryout,on what seemed to be a slow Monday night, but took a little more than 20. If staying at a local hotel and thinking about carry out i would do it again.

I have tried pizza from all over Tampa. And good pizza is really hard to come by here. I'm originally from western Pennsylvania and we only eat square pizza. Well when I found square pizza here in Tampa I was stoked. I must admit the sauce on the cheese was different but it is so tasty! I always order extra cheese and they pile it on. The sauce is on point and very well balanced. I couldn't complain if I wanted to. Of course I do call my order in before I pick up. And it's always hot and ready when I get there. Best pizza in Tampa hands down.

  • Kim O.

This pizza is amazing. I really never heard of Detroit style pizza but it is so good! We got the 8 square cheese pizza. The sauce is so tasty, the cheese is delicious, but the best part of this pizza is the crust for sure. They put the cheese right up to the end and it gets extra toasted and crusty ( in a good way!). You can tell they use really high quality ingredients. Can't wait to go back.

The first time I had the pizza here it was truly delicious; however when I returned a few weeks later I was served a gooey, inedible raw mess. I have not been back since. My feelings about this place are mixed.

My husband and I LOVE pizza, we eat it almost 3 times a week. I'm originally from New York, so I know good pizza. My husband wanted to try this place because he saw a flyer for their shop in the laundry room of our apartment complex. Let me tell you, I didn't enjoy the pizza here AT ALL. there was too much sauce in certain areas, the cheese tasted like the pizza had cooled off and then was reheated again. The dough was flavorless-it was like there was no effort put into this pizza at all. We also had hot wings that were decent, so decent that I ate those instead of the rest of the pizza I took 3 bites of. We had the pizza delivered this past Saturday, and it was extremely late, about 20 more minutes longer than the man on the phone had originally told us (he called after 45 minutes and said the pizza would be another 10 minutes.), but the fact that he called to let us know the pizza would take longer was nice-the main reason why this place gets 2 stars. I wish I could've been among the satisfied customers that like this place but unfortunately I wasn't. (My husband reminded me that we didn't get a receipt either.)

  • Jessica L.

Okay just placed my first order and I'm impressed! Definitely better than your average Sbarro/Papa John's/Westshore style. I've never had 'Detroit style' and it does remind me of Chicago deep dish, but like thick cheesy bread with sauce on top. I didn't get any toppings (budget cuts...) but I hear they are on the inside which sounds yummy and intriguing. I ordered an 8-square cheese Detroit style and while the pizza itself was $13, with delivery and tip ended up being $18 (I really didn't feel like driving out there.). The delivery guy called me about 10 minutes out just to verify my address and he was very polite and friendly. They estimated delivery at about 7:40 and he was here a little after 8 but I wasn't starving and he was really nice so I'll take it. I think I still may have the craving for 'typical' boring thin crust pizza, but this one definitely seems more quality and original. It was also filling! 2 slices filled me up but I went for a third just cause it was good. Hello leftovers! Hope it reheats well!

I have my son visiting from Puget Sound, Washington and found you on Yelp. I say, you have such a friendly staff and incredibly DELICIOUS Detroit Pizza! Best way to put it, best pizza I have ever tried. I don't want to hype about it, instead, simply know you must map your phone and put that car on high gear! Amazing pizza! Yum!!! A devilishly delightful indulgence;) The Detroit-style pizza was so worth the short wait. A no-frills dine in experience BUT the restaurant was exceptionally neat and clean (you can see into the kitchen/prep area) and a great friendly staff! PS....the real Wisconsin mozzarella really makes a difference.....so good!!!

One of the best pizza joints in Tampa. Full, hearty square.Detroit style pizzas. I've never tried anything else here but the pizza is so incredible, why bother? The only negative thing about this place is they change a ton for toppings. I suggest getting a cheese or going easy on the extra toppings. For example a supreme is double the price of a cheese.

After our visit we had a family meeting. Pizza Squared is the best pizza we've had! Got to stop in and try it if your in the Tampa area. We had the square 8" and order or the garlic cheese bread sticks. Fa nominal!!!

What a great surprise. We went here on the way from Busch Gardens based on Yelp reviews. We were skeptical as it is tough to find good pizza in Tampa. The owner greeted us and couldn't have been more pleasant. The food was great. We had simple cheese and pepperoni pizzas---Detroit style. I would definitely recommend it. The pizza tastes good warmed up for leftovers too.

So, I'm driving down 30th street one day and I see this sign by the road that says "Pizza Squared". No big deal. I thought it was probably some little hole in the wall that won't be past 6 months and I kept going. 2 or 3 days later, I was driving by again but this time, I looked at the sign on the building and it said "Detroit Style Pizza" Well....being from DETROIT I consider myself an authority on what true DETROIT style pizza should taste like. I Decided to stop and give it a whirl. As I walked in, the first thing that caught my eye was all the nostalgic Detroit sports teams newspaper articles on the walls. Red Wings, Tigers, U of Michigan...it was nice to reflect. As I have lived in Florida for some 20+ years, my anticipation for this pizza was truly killing me. I ordered the 8 squared Detroit pizza. Toppings were pepperoni and ground beef. As I was talking to the owner (James) I asked him if the ground beef was TRUE ground beef or did it look like rabbit pellets you get on most chain pizza places. He assured me it was TRUE ground beef. After that, I placed my order. Pizza and wings, sounds like a good combo. As I was patiently waiting for my food, I looked at one of the tables. There were 3 people sitting - eating a Detroit style pizza. As they took the pizza from the tray and moved it to their plates, it took every once of energy NOT to walk over and ask them for bite. First off, the wings - They weren't bad. In my opinion pretty basic wings. The honey BBQ sauce was good. Not too sweet which is what I like. I would get the wings again. The Pizza - - OMG!! one bite and I was back home again. The layer of pepperoni on the bottom smothered in cheese and ground beef. Then, the two rows of sauce. I seriously died and went to pizza heaven. When my wife took a bite, she said "this is what pizza should taste like". I think Pizza Squared will be on my top 3 places for take out. The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was great and the taste was out of this world. The place is in a strip mall and not the totally best part of town but if you can make it there - it is WELL worth the trip!!!

It's definitely it's own style of pizza, and after trying it, I wonder why there aren't more Detroit style pizza joints. I love all types of pizza: Chicago, New York, pan, hand tossed, whatever. Now I can add Detroit to near the top of the list. This place has amazing pizza. The crust is amazing. It's crusty, buttery, thick, but not overwhelming. The cheese is ridiculous. I'd say off the chain perhaps, but Guy on the food network just killed that phrase for me. Regardless, it is some of the best I've ever had on a pizza, and LOVE that they push it out so every edge has that perfectly burnt cheese crispness to it. The sauce is not too sweet, and on top of the cheese. I just wish there was bit more of it, or next time I should get some extra on the side. I have been here several times, and plan on being a regular.

WOW! My kids have figuratively handed in their resignation to ALL american pizza joints. The place was a hole in the wall in a dive of a strip mall near Yeungling Brewery but the pizza was quality like you wouldn't believe. Of course, this is with a caveat that we've never had Detroit-Style pizza before but, I mean, uh, WOW! (did I say that before?) The caramelized cheese on the lightest of light crusts along with that cray inside-out sauce-on-top-thing. By the way, the pizza sauce itself was amazing and, you could just dive into the sauce with a spoon for epicurean delight. BEST American Pizza I've ever had. Now, I have a place to go when I can't make it up to 900 Degree Wood-Fired Oven for La Vera Italian Pizze. But....WOW!

So I'm in Tampa(ish) for a meeting at the VA and walking to a restaurant isn't an option from the middle of nowhere where I am staying. This is why I love Yelp. I searched for restaurants that deliver near my hotel and this one came up with great reviews. They do not lie. This place is great. I used the online ordering on Facebook (since I hate the telephone) and it worked perfectly. They called to confirm my order and how I'd like to pay (which was relatively quick and painless--even if it was on the phone), and then the pizza showed up. I got a small, deep dish with mushrooms and black olives and it was delicious. If you like Chicago-style pizza, you'll like this. Thick, but light dough, with generous cheese and then a light slathering of tasty sauce over the top. I read that the "caramelized" cheese around the edge is part of the requirements to be Detroit-style, but it didn't do that much for me. Nonetheless, delicious. The delivery guy came up to the room and was courteous. They didn't provide any napkins or utensils, but I didn't think to ask for them either. Recommend this place without hesitation. Wish they were in Charlotte--they'd be my go to pizza place. Have no idea what the place is like in person, but others seem to say good things.

We took our family (girls ages 1, 5, 7) after a trip to Mosi. We had read the reviews, but were second guessing everythign when we found the locaton. Lucky for us we went in - as it was likely the best pizza we have ever had, and that's saying a lot for our family. Baking in the steel pan creates an amazing cheese and crust combination - kind of like carmalized corners. The result is amazing. The person we presumed was the owner was so very kind to the girls, and the price was very reasonable. We left stuffed (though not a crumb remained) for around $20 including an appetizer. The guy we thought was the owner claimed a family comes up from the Miami area about once a month to eat there - after eating the pie, I can see why it would be worth the trip. Wonderful place and such good food. Location could be better, but what really matter most was perfect.

Wow! What a hidden gem tucked away in a divey little strip mall across from the Yuengling factory. I had the small 'Detroit style' pizza which was six squares. It doesn't look like a lot, but it's very filling. They offer a USF discount as well which is nice.

I came here after a long day at Busch Gardens and I was really tired and in need of good food. I have to say this is some of the best pizza I have ever had and wish that a place served Detroit style pizza back at home in Texas! I highly recommend trying this place!

Better than Gumby's. Better than 5-star (Or should I say 2 star?) Deserves to replace 5-Star as best in USF area. Like others said, the pizza is made in the order of crust, toppings, cheese, sauce. But all that matters is it's delicious. My GF and I got the 6 piece, and it fed 2 hungry people. (3 pieces each.) But it was almost not enough. Go for more if you're a hungry dude. (ette?) The father and son seem truly into Detroit with the decor -- newspapers, pennants, etc. They are mostly a take-out place, but they have a table for four; and, I believe, a table for eight. Eat up! Only thing hindering this place is its location -- 30th street is kinda hood 'round those parts.

I feel like I should add an update on this review since the owner, who is a very nice guy and clearly dedicated to his business, was surprised to learn about my comment on the scarcity of toppings. While I know that the toppings are of course under the cheese, when I wrote this review we had gotten a pizza where there was a single piece of pepperoni on each slice... yes, literally. You can see how that might have seemed skimpy to me, but I thought that was just how they came. Since I wrote this review, however, we've been back many times, and it seems like it might simply have been a fluke because since then the pepperoni amounts have been fine. (Certainly nowhere near as few slices as before.) Maybe it was just someone else in the kitchen? Regardless, I wanted to follow up because after so many other orders, it's pretty clear what I experienced was just an accident. Take it from someone who drives almost an hour ROUND TRIP nearly every other week to this place... the food is fantastic, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are good people. A definite winner.

One of my favorite pizza places in Tampa. The Detroit style pizza is delicious! Wondering what that is? Check out the pictures. Good stuff. I love hole on the wall little places and this place is hole in the wall. Definitely try it! All that said, skip the wings. They taste frozen.

Such amazing pizza! I walked here from the Grand Suites Hotel, and the walk was short and lovely. The manager was very friendly, and gave me plates, napkins, and packets of Parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper for free! I had the 16 inch hand tossed pineapple, and it was great.

My sister and I came here after the Yuengling Brewery Tour right across the street. We ordered the vegetarian six slice pizza. It was plenty for two people. It was very good, the cheese was especially flavorful. I also appreciated that the veggies were fresh, not canned, especially the mushrooms, where a lot of places try and sneak them in canned. The place was also very clean, including the bathroom, which was a plus. There was only one guy working there at the time, he kept coming in and out of the restaurant, but still managed to get our pie cooked perfectly!

There's nothing square about this Pizza...besides its shape. Though I would say it's more rectangular in nature. Who would've thunk that simply putting the sauce on top of the cheese would make such a delicious difference. I gotta say Detroit style is up there with NY style. It's not as heavy as Chicago and not as light as NY. A perfect balance indeed. There's still hope for you Detroit. Plus this place is friggin' cheap! Great for college students and late night munchies. For a late night grungy pizza place I give it 5 stars.

Yelpers rejoice: a father and son are running a hole-in-the-wall that takes something familiar (pizza) with an unfamiliar twist. We eat this stuff up. Literally. Detroit-style pizza may be new to Tampa, so I'll break it down like a cheap import: you start with the crust on the bottom, of course, but after that everything's reversed. Toppings go directly onto the crust, followed by so much cheese that it flows out to the edge of the pan and dies a delicious crispy death. Tomato sauce goes on top. We went for the $12 dinner deal: a 1-topping large pizza, which feeds 3-4 people who aren't pizza hogs like I am, with an order of garlic breadsticks and a 2-liter bottle of soda. The guy behind the counter (the son in the father-and-son team) heard us talking about how I drink diet cola and she drinks Mountain Dew, and offered to split it into two cans. Absurd unless you're us; it was actually more valuable split up like that. Smart business move. The breadsticks, even topped with cheese for an extra 50 cents, weren't particularly Detroity; they give Pokey Stix a run for their money, though. The pizza, which we also split up (half pepperoni, half mushroom -- and yeah, they only count that as one topping, not two), was distinctly better than most pizza I've eaten in Tampa. (Atlantans will recognize it as similar to Jagger's.) Again with the thoughtful: the one-man band running Pizza Squared separated the toppings so neatly that I didn't eat a shred of pepperoni, and defied Detroit tradition to put the mushrooms on top so I'd know which side was mine. Very helpful, and btw not completely unfortunate looking either, if anyone wants to play Who Wants To Marry a Cute Pizzeria Operator Who Also Plays in a Band That Sometimes Rehearses in the Aforementioned Pizzeria. (If you're taken, sir, or not marriage-minded, my apologies. I try to mention ALL the charms of a business.) You'll drive past Pizza Squared the first time because it's in a little strip mall south of Fowler, across from the Yuengling bottling plant, and you'll be paying attention to the traffic cones (probably a good choice). That's okay. Turn around and come back. Next time you won't drive past it without stopping.

I had to take a look at Pizza Squared after I set upon a quest to find the perfect pizza in Tampa Bay. My objective was straightforward: I wanted a medium-thickness crust and a sweet, consistent sauce (not chunky). Seems simple, doesn't it? Well, nowadays, it seems everyone wants to claim that they are "New York-style" or "Chicago-style." As someone who had none of these styles growing up in my hometown (I didn't even know people actually put sauce _on top_ until I came to Tampa), I was desperate to find a pizza that reminded me of home - and wasn't sold by "Pizza Hut" or "Dominos." A Yelp Talk thread pointed me to Pizza Squared. I would normally have filed the idea under "I'll try that sometime, thanks," due to its proximity to USF and my location in Westshore. But one thing sold me - the Yelp picture. It looked like a 'slice' of home, minus the sauce and cheese's role reversal. So, I decided at that moment that I would brave life, limb, and property to take the drive on a Tuesday rush hour up I-275 to Pizza Squared to have some of what was in that picture. I placed my order after passing one of the four crashes on 275 along my journey - an '8-square' cheese, Detroit style (like you see in the picture). According to their menu, they have New York style as well, so you can give that a shot if for some reason there isn't a New York Style pizzeria within a 1/8th mile radius from you. I'm sure it's good, but I'm too New Yorked out to try. On any other day, I would have gotten pepperoni, but for some reason, we had a vegetarian at our house and I decided to be nice. Turns out she didn't have any pizza anyway since she had already eaten carrots or something. Whatever, her loss. I finally arrived at Pizza Squared at just the right time, as the pizza had just came out of their oven. There is nothing better than hot, fresh pizza right from an oven from the moment it touches your lips until the moment the first layer of skin begins to peel from the roof of your mouth minutes later. Unfortunately I had a 20+ minute drive back to Westshore and 2 car accidents to drive through, so I was worried I wouldn't get the full Pizza Squared experience. Fortunately, this is Tampa, home of the world's longest red lights, and I was about to take Busch Boulevard to get back on 275, so I got plenty of opportunities to take numerous bites of the fresh pizza before I got home. In case you're wondering: the pizza looks just like the picture, which thrilled me, as it reminded me of one of my favorite pizza parlors back home. Heck, 5 hours later, my burps still taste like the burps after eating from that back-home joint. It's truly a wonderful thing. Even the cheese is phenomenal, and that baked-into-crust style is fantastic. If I had to change (or customize) anything, I would forgo the whole 'sauce-on-top' functionality. I'm sure it wouldn't then be called 'Detroit-style,' but I guess that's just what I've always called "pizza." Sauce on top isn't bad - and their sauce is certainly great - but I like sauce in every bite. When it's on top, I only get sauce in those glorious bites that are directly graced by Pizza Squared's sweet sauce. I've also seen some pizza joints offer half-baked pizza for bringing home, freezing, and cooking on your own time. If Pizza Squared offered this, I'd likely buy whatever I could fit in my freezer. I'd probably even throw out the years-old boxes of frozen vegetables to make even more room so I could enjoy Pizza Squared without a nearly hourlong round trip. All in all, my favorite Bay area pizza joint thus far. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is sick of the me-too New York and Chicago style pizzerias that are more common than a "Coming Soon: Chase Bank" sign on a Tampa roadway. PROS: - Perfect crust, not too thick, not too thin. - Caramelized cheese in the crust. - Pizza boxes that don't say "World's Greatest Pizza." - Stoplights on Busch Boulevard. CONS: - Sauce isn't in every single bite. - No half-baked option (yet!). - Detroit. - Chase bank. SCORE: 5/5. Definitely try if you're all New Yorked out.

Great place for pizza take out or quiet meal for 2 to 4 people. Save some money and order cheese. You don't need toppings on these yummy slices. If you're looking to get something authentic you must order the square pizza. That's Detroit style!

OMG the pizza from this place is awesome! I ordered delivery to my hotel when I was on vacation in Tampa, and it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The delivery was fast, the person who took my order was very friendly, so to sum it all up, it has the total package.

My sisters were in town from Jacksonville and I found good reviews on Yelp, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I am so glad I did! The staff was extremely friendly and as everyone said, the pizza was delicious! We got a large pizza for only $12 and that fed me and my 2 sisters, so we definitely got our bang for our buck! This is a great little hole in the wall and definitely recommend it to all detroit style pizza lovers!

This was the most humbling pizza experience of my life. I thought I knew pizza, and then I ate here --forever shattering my worldview. I can't believe I didn't find this place earlier. I've never had Detroit style pizza before, so I was a bit skeptical, but holy hell did it deliver (even though I dined in). The place has 3 tables with 4 chairs each and a few seats for people waiting for take out. There is no atmosphere here, because there needn't be any. The pizza more than makes up for it. It is saucy, juicy, cheesy, crispy, yet doughy. Don't get anything other than the square pizza or you will be disappointing Nature by denying the possibilities for Good in the world. Seriously. This is metaphysically & objectively good pizza. Damn.

This is just awesome. If you have never had Detroit style pizza, it is so good. We live in Lakeland but my family begs me to order and drive the 40 minutes both ways to get this pizza. I gladly make the drive. We order the 8" square three of them and they warm up great. Don't forget the cheese garlic bread. Can't recommend this pizza enough.

As a pizza freak I was looking forward to something a little more unique than a square shaped pizza with the sauce on the top rather than the bottom, but it was above average at least. Cheese and crust were tasty, though the sauce was a little sweet for my taste. If it's on your way you could do worse.

This is good quality pizza. The dough is properly prepared and ingredients were fresh and clean. Unlike those silly pizza chains, you will not be bloated after eating this pizza. Service was very friendly and helpful. Another fine addition to the Tampa USF area. Delivery speed, they are quite fast, so please tip the driver well for trying hard to get you a hot pizza.

  • Kristie K.

Worst pizza ever. Crust was super doughy and wouldn't even hold its shape. Wondered if is was even fully cooked. Requested light on the pizza sauce and was drounding in so much sauce the cheese wouldn't even stay on. Wings were questionable too, soggy and bland. Love supporting local and trying new things but this was a bust! Two teenagers wouldn't even eat it.

So I was craving pizza tonight and heard this place was awesome so I gave it a try. WoW! What an excellent pizza! I got the 6 square Detroit with Italian sausage. At first I thought it was a little small, but it was super filling. My favorite part was the amount of sauce thats on top. Ill be coming back for sure its now my number 1 place to get pizza.

What a fabulous pizza. This is not your normal New York or Chicago style pie. When you take a bite you will taste all different flavors of cheese. The crust is outstanding. And the sauce is fabulous, This reminded me of the old style pizza I grew up with. All I can say is great.

This is again one of those places you love that everyone should visit but you don't want to tell people about because you want to keep the secret. They couldn't be more friendly or courteous....and that "Detroit thang they have happenen" well if you don't experience it shame on you.

Square "Detroit-style" pizza was excellent! I think we would definitely return. The only problem is that they don't deliver at this point, so you'll have to pick it up, or eat there (they have a small dining area). The place is very clean, but the neighborhood at night seemed a little rough.

In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
