I am a little disappointed that most of the positive reviews for Ocean Blue Sushi are filtered out and the negative ones are mostly visible because I love Ocean Blue Sushi. Also LOL to the Urbanspoon reviewer who complained there is no Japanese ramen at a sushi bar. I go to Ocean Blue Sushi Carrollwood at least once a week or even more often than that. The late-night sushi is a deal and even though the fish could be fresher, what do you really expect when the sushi is $2/$3 after 10PM. If you want bigger rolls come earlier when you pay the price for the fish. I like their Crab Rangoons and Crab Rangoon Roll and actually I like almost all of their appetizers. I really like the Okinawa Sweet Potato Fries and Gyoza. The serious place where you get a deal is on their drinks. Long Island Iced Tea? $4. Sake Bomb? $3. Jager Bomb? $3. Four Horsemen? $4. Where else can you get cheap drinks at those prices and Ocean Blue Sushi has the special from 10PM-3AM so there is plenty of time to drink and then sober up afterward. On Saturday nights they have a DJ playing music and people actually will get up and dance there. The crowd at Ocean Blue is mostly younger - mid to late 20s or early 30s. I can see how older people wouldn't like that - but don't knock one of the few places in Tampa that can provide late-night activities in a town that is starved for nightlife. They have plenty of private rooms you can use for events and for birthday parties and such - and the place is certainly a lounge with music playing every night of the week. They have a Jazz and Karaoke night and there is plenty going at Ocean Blue Sushi. I love it and hope it stays forever :)

Let's be real...this is a bar that happens to serve sushi not a sushi bar. If you're looking for GOOD sushi, look elsewhere. The sushi is only about a half step up from Publix sushi. This place is all about cheap drinks and loud music. I go there to hang out...not for food.

I love this atmosphere, it's after 11 pm so they play dance music (some nights have better songs than others). The sushi I got was amazing (see pictures!) and our server was consistently keeping my drink full which was nice because I drink a lot. I didn't drink tonight, but they have really good, cheap drink specials. Happy hour half price sushi was nice as well. Got 4 rolls, 2 cokes, and fried cheesecake all for $35 including gratuity. One of my favorite places to go!

This place is pretty cool. The atmosphere is nice, great for talking with friends or just hanging out at the bar. The servers here are all nice. They are easy to talk to and come around a good number of times to make sure that everything is ok. To be fair I did come at a non busy time... The wait to get our food however was a bit longer than I had expected for the amount of food we ordered. Just three rolls. But when the food came, boy was it good! Presentation was good for a sushi place and the rolls all tasted great. We had the heavenly roll, The mufasa Roll (I recommend) and the Mexican tool. The Mexican roll was basic but still really good. The two special roll were just that, yummy and special. If you come here during happy hour you get half off a bunch of drinks, and half off several different rolls and appetizers. Non of the specialty rolls however, but still a great deal. If you come here with a friend or a group you are bound to have a good time. Also Thursdays is latin day. The have a DJ with some great music if your in the mood for that!

Awful service. Went for happy hour late night sushi and ordered rounds of beer between 6 people. Our server brought us 4 mugs with pink lipstick on the rims, which in and of itself is disgusting. Then our server proceeded to give us attitude about it and only comped one round of beers us and never even took the lipstick stained mugs from our table!!! No apology from the manager. Horrible experience, need new management ASAP.

Starting my Dale Mabry Tour de Sushi, not a great start! Walked into a mostly empty restaurant that smelled strongly of bleach, not the most appetizing aroma. This place is not set up as a place to enjoy sushi, the walls are all painted with flat paint in dark colors - I guess at night when it is more night clubby it works. At lunch, not so much. Waitress said sit where I want, so I went to the sushi bar. I had a Creative Loafing $10 for $20 deal, so showed that to the waitress and asked for some water. Ordered lunch off a large heat sealed menu, they give you a dry erase marker to select. Selection was okay, but for my Tour, I'm trying to go with consistent items, Tuna and Yellowtail Nigiri, a California roll (wanted cucumber, but they didn't have it?) and a spicy tuna roll. The chef came out a few minutes later and beyond telling me what he was handing me, made no eye contact or interaction. Yellow tail and tuna both seemed very fresh and were sliced correctly. Overall, very good. California roll was okay, nothing special - although the sesame seeds seemed a little stale. The spicy tuna roll had cucumber, I prefer mine without it. The spice was a little harsh, I like heat, but it should be balanced. Again, not bad, but not great. Now comes the irritation - got my bill wich came to $27.49 and gave the server - my CL deal printout and a $20. After what seemed to be forever, she came out and gave me the receipt and $7.00. So I look at the reciept and they have charged me an 18% gratuity and she thought she should keep the $0.65 for good measure. The CL Deal said nothing about the gratuity being added in. Really bad business practices. I understand making sure that the servers get protected, but put that on the deal so there is no confusion. And I hope that $0.65 makes a difference in that server's life, because it did in mine, won't ever go there again!

Club or sushi restaurant?? Came here on a Thursday night around 10:45 with my husband and another couple. We ordered several different rolls and they were all delicious and fresh tasting. Would have given them 3 stars but the music (they had a DJ) was soooo loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. I'm talking super loud techno and twerk music with profanity sprinkled throughout. There definitely weren't enough people to merit how incredibly loud the music was. This place would be appropriate in Vegas on a Saturday night but not Tampa on any night, If they could just turn the music down, we would go back. Hopefully the owner reads the feedback and takes it into consideration. We definitely weren't the only customers that looked confused when the DJ suddenly cranked the volume all the way up tonight. Everyone was looking around the restaurant at each other like WTF?! Server was nice and well groomed but not the fastest with clearing out plates and refills on drinks. Seems like if we come back, it will be for take out only.

This place used to be MY JAM, but after a terrible customer service experience, I'm not sure I'll ever come back. Which sucks, because the sushi is delicious, and after 10pm beer and sushi are dirt cheap! The other night I came to have a nice night with some friends. Our waitress, Brittany, was phenomenal. If you ever go, request her. She is so fun! However, the bar served my friend her sake with lipstick all over the glass! Absolutely terrible. But it got worse. Once our sushi was served, we were carrying on eating... Until I almost ate a hair!! It was literally cooked into the sushi! The manager got called over.. And then proceeded to argue with the entire table about how it wasn't possible for a long hair to come from his restaurant because no one working at the time had long hair, but clearly I did, so it had to be mine! This went on for a good 5+ minutes before he agreed to replace my sushi roll (they had taken my plate away, which still had other sushi on it besides the hair piece, and OF COURSE I didn't get those other pieces I didn't get to enjoy back). He however would not agree to comp me at least the offending roll, and continued to argue that it was mine! I work in a food prep environment myself, and would never DREAM of accusing a customer that they tampered with the food. If there's a problem, you fix it! The hair and the wine glass are completely unacceptable events that happened in the same night! I left with $17 gone from my pocket, feeling completely embarrassed, uncomfortable, and outraged.

No reason not to give them 5 stars---I am pretty picky about my sushi ( I like it fresh, but not overly "fishy") and they were spot on! Plus very reasonable prices...a cup of miso, edamame, a California roll and a spicy tuna roll ran me $15 plus a tip! Tasty, fast, friendly ( I got my order to go). It was kind of weird that it was painted all black, but I bet it makes for a cool dinner/night time atmosphere!

Half-off at 10!! Literally was the best part of my entire experience. The killer was the service. Yes, we got seated quickly, but waiting was the death of me. It wasn't even a packed house. I'm thinking it was slow service because 1) The Spurs/Heat game was on 2) The waitress was watching the game. That's pretty much it. Get either the Dancing Eel or Nitro Eel. Those were my favorites. d:) ------------------------------------------------------------- Don't get the Dancing Eel or Nitro Eel if you're allergic to Eel. Just saying. I know my word means everything, but you're safety is everything to me! d:D

I have had everything on the menu and have had the chance to meet everyone who works here, everyone is very friendly. There is nothing on the menu that I would not recommend. Open very late. Has half off good food and drink specials after 10pm. You must try the Sushi Pizza a signature dish of Ocean Blue.

I stopped at Ocean Blue Sushi in Carrollwood for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and the prices. They have a terrific lunch special called the Double Makimono Combo which gives you two rolls plus either Miso soup or a house salad for only $11. Wowsers! Pick my jaw up off the sushi bar and order now before they change their mind about the price!!! The normal price on their sushi rolls is $8 - 11, so this is really one heck of a deal. The menu is clean and simple without an overwhelming selection of raw and cooked rolls to read through. I chose the Heavenly Roll (spicy tuna, cucumber, topped with yellowtail & tobiko) and the Dynamite Roll (spicy shellfish sald, spicy tuna & cucumber). The waiter convinced me that I also needed to order one of their house special sushi rolls called the Saki Maki (avacado, cucmber, steamed shrimp topped with seared salmon and red tobiko). The sushi was excellent, and I can see why this place is such a hit - 3 rolls plus soup for under $25! Lots of beers on tap, plus hot sake and a full bar. The restaurant is surprisingly large once you get through the strip mall doors, and there's seating at the bar as well as tables for small parties, and larger picnic-style tables for groups. The piped-in music was a collection of classic rock up through current hits, and they have TV's over the bar with ESPN and Olympics coverage. I'm told there is live music and dancing on the weekends, which is quite a shock for Carrollwood. The server told me that they have Happy Hour specials from 4:30 - 7 with great deals on drinks, appetizers, and sushi. The prices drop again after 10 pm, and my fellow Yelpsters mention $2 / $3 Nigiri on the late-night menu. Nice place that is definitely worth several more visits.

I've been here to eat a few times, the service has been decent and the sushi has been good. However, I was there last week and have been sick for three days with food poisoning from bad fish. I have learned their kitchen is filthy and they have become very careless with their cleanness and sanitation in both the way they prepare the sushi, as well as keeping their seafood fresh. DO NOT EAT HERE.

  • Peter K.

Food and service was good! Can't complain about much other than a mix up with the groupon that brought us in here, but they were great with that too. The ambience of the place was also very nice, like the idea of the private spaces. I say this in a lot of reviews, but I hope I'm in town again so I can visit this place!

Came here for the UYE Carlos set up & really enjoyed the place! As far as atmosphere, I may only be 24, but I feel a little old for the college party scene- i partied enough from 16-20 for two lifetimes. Fortunately, we were in a VIP room, so we were away from the commotion and loud music. Definitely a plus. The food itself was awesome. Everyone ordered a few things that were passed around the table, so I have no idea what exactly I ate, but everything was delicious! I'd happily come back for the sushi & appetizers, although probably during regular business hours because- again- I'm old. The service I'd say was Meh. Not great, not terrible, but you would expect them to be a little bit more attentive to a large(ish) party. However, it was late and the place was pretty busy, so it's understandable. Bottom line- if I'm ever in the Carollwood area and craving sushi, I know where to go!

Went to my first UYE this past weekend - In the Yelp World, that means unofficial Yelp Event. So nice to have the opportunity to meet some new people with similar likes especially eating...lol. Had a great time experiencing Ocean Blue with some new found yelpers. This place is pretty cool with their Restaurant/Bar/Loungey atmosphere. Loud music blared where you just wanted to get up on the dance floor and shake your stuff. But, no one was dancing. I guess people are on the floor dancing on Saturdays. It was a Friday night, and on the weekends after 10PM is half price sushi, apps, and drinks. $3-6 can't be beat right, I seriously don't think so. With the group of yelpers that I was with, we ordered a bunch of stuff to sample. Some tempura veggies and stuff, some sushi rolls, there was stuff for my non seafood/fish eating hubby, so he was happy. My drink, the lychee martini sounded good and different, but it tasted like medicine. There are so many drinks on the menu though, and I will be sure to be back. This place was a change of pace then what I am use to because there were a lot of college kids. I felt like I was in college again. It's not a bad thing at all whatsoever. Change is good. It just makes you see that you need to let lose, take your hair out of your bun, and be crazy. I will be back, and try more sushi rolls and drinks. I know it will be a blast. Check it out, if you need let your hair down, even if you don't have any lol. The one thing I must say is it gets pretty loud. If your ears are sensitive, you may want to go here earlier. Thankfully so, we had a private room, and that made it better for me because the volume in the room was adjustable.

Decided to have a very late dinner and a movie on a Saturday night, and we had a CL Deal ($10 for $20) to Ocean Blue. We arrived around 9:45 and were informed that at 10pm, the atmosphere changes to more of a party crowd and sushi & drinks go 1/2 off. We couldn't use our CL Deal after 10 pm, which was fine, but the explanation of how we could use it was overly complicated. We weren't looking to be cheap, but we realized that maximizing our $20 deal before 10 was the way to go- then I would order some random rolls afterwards. The 1/2 price rolls is really a steal- it gives you an opportunity to order some rolls you usually wouldn't because of price or being iffy on whether you would like it or not. I thought the rolls were pretty fresh and standard size, which was surprising- I felt like they would skimp since things were going on special. I've had better quality sushi, but where else can you get a Rainbow roll for $4.50? Or ANY roll for that matter? I didn't mind the atmosphere after 10pm at all (and I despise a "club" scene), the music wasn't insanely loud but it did give an upbeat party vibe along with strobe lights and music videos on the TV screens. I'd say it's a unique concept. Maybe it gets a tad crazier towards midnight? All in all, we will definitely be back to Ocean Blue and bring friends. For the value, it is very hard to beat and the service provided by our waiter (Xavier) was first class and on point.

This was our second time at this place and it never disappoints. The sushi was fresh and delicious and since the restaurant was fairly quiet, our food was served very quickly. Our second waiter was friendly and efficient (the first one must have been DYING to get off work...). I love the variety of rolls and the prices are very reasonable. We have yet to go during their happy hour specials or late night specials but I read the late night events are very fun and 1/2 off rolls is nice!

We were craving some sushi and heard that this place was co-owned by the people who own Hiro's in St. Pete. We enjoy the sushi there and were happy to find out that there's a comparable place closer to us. To seal the deal, they have the same 50% off happy hour after 10pm, just like Hiro's. This place shares another key element with its counterpart in St. Pete: The music is blasting and you have to yell at each other if you want to have a conversation. Ocean Blue has no dancefloor as far as I could see and certainly doesn't come off as a nightclub so much, unlike Hiro's does... at least a little bit. Ocean Blue wasn't exactly packed either, so why the blaring music? The sushi was pretty good. Not the best I have had, but it does not disappoint. The service was friendly and we didn't wait too long. Nothing more to say here really. I'd give the place 4 stars if it wasn't for the music. It makes you want to get out of that place... I don't think that's the point?! I literally felt a relieve when walking out... it is similiar at Hiro's, though. So it seems to be their thing. But I don't think it benefits the experience at all. Maybe it should be reconsidered, at least for Ocean Blue.

Anything that's open past 10pm in the area and is not a sports bar or Village Inn should be celebrated. I think it's pretty silly that this place felt the need to play BUMPING club music in the middle of the week when insomniacs like myself are sometimes looking for a quiet place to chill that's not a diner/dive bar. Night birds need places to go! Our waitress was a little MIA, but super sweet and eager-to-please. We only ordered a little food with our drinks, but the food was perfectly fine (although we didn't order anything too risky). Two appetizers, one roll, and two beers for $20 (that's after tax and a generous tip) is fine by me. All in all, an A-OK place. Would have given it more stars if it was more of a relaxing place. The club thing is so tired and overdone--but don't get me wrong--everyone who was there dining and drinking was chilling out so the lack of rowdiness made the bumping songs appear more obvious and out-of-place. Either way, endless bonus points for being open until 2am. Tampa needs more late-night places like Ocean Blue!

The facility is dirty, the service is poor, and the sushi is less than mediocre. Ocean Blue shouldn't even merit consideration with so many other great options on Dale Mabry.

I love sushi! The sushi here was pretty good, you get what you pay for with sushi. I have been a couple times but one time I went for my friends birthday. They sat us down quickly and took our orders. It took over an hour to get us our food. We had to beg to get something for the inconvenience and they gave us salads after 5 minutes of arguing. The staff members were pretty rude and the service wasn't great. Good food and fun with a group as long as it doesn't take over an hour for your food.

For a non sushi eater, I have gone back a few times. Great happy hour deals on good variety. Beautiful looking sushi for those into that. Drinks were heavily made, contemporary decor.

Hmmm. This place is...bizarre. It's sushi bar slash dance club slash restaurant which produces a very strange atmosphere. Our server was very sweet and so were the signature drinks. Tooth achingly so. The sushi was pretty good but over all the sushi menu had too much bling for me. Lots of sauces, fried this or that, sparkly toppings that I think are unnecessary with good fresh fish. We came here with a groupon which made the experience worth it. If you want to check the place out that's what I would recommend. Avoid the cocktails. Expensive and barely drinkable.

This place is interesting. I came during 1/2 price sushi happy hour which happens to features live DJ and club atmosphere. As soon as my friend and I walked in and sat down the bartender sent us free drinks...very club-like. Although I don't drink, I had half of it and it was pretty good! The manager said the drink wasn't on the menu and the bartender made a special mix for us. Okaaay??!! Should I be scared? I ordered tuna poke and a tuna Tataki and both were excellent. My friend's salad looked good too. The music was on point, but no one was dancing. A lot of people were standing around mingling. The crowd was mostly 20 something Asians with a small mixture of everybody else, which I found intriguing. The music was all hip hop...I really wanted to dance...so I did...only my friend and I were dancing while the whole club restaurant/club watched with a puzzled look. I had a good time. Then I left. I would like to come back in the daylight for dinner. :)

If I could give this place no stars I would. The first time I went there the food was great and the second time I went it was just mediocre. Both times; however, the service was godawful. The last time, our server took our order an we didn't see him for about 30 minutes and when he came back he told us he was leaving and he wouldn't be back. When I asked some one else to speak to a manager the guy told me no one knew where one was. I stopped another server to ask for my check and he said only my server can process it. Low and behold our original server shows back up with my check with items on there that I asked for but never received. I regret ever returning to Ocean Blue and I regret even more paying for such terrible service. I recommend this pitiful establishment for a bar makeover show.

Waited over 50 minutes on a Tuesday night. There were only four tables besides us. The table behind us got here after and was served their food first. Not sure why. Also, only half my roll deserves avocado apparently.

Only been here once but based on that one time experience, I had a BLAST. Come here during happy hour, drinks and sushi were half off. Need I say more? It was a great time!

She knew she was desat the late night hours worked great. To Laddish the service sucked ass. The waiter took forever to come and pick up our order food took forever to come out and I was only serve the water once. Eventually we had to go get our own water from the bar. No one checked on the food and I wasn't sure who was the waitstaff since nobody was wearing any type of uniform or apron. Too bad the service was awful other than that it would've been a great place for late-night sushi.

The three of us got sick from the sushi. We actually called them to let them know and they not only didn't care but blamed it on something else we must have eaten. Great customer service when you call and they yell at you. I would rather is dog food than ever eat here again. Also it's WAY overpriced for the amount you get. Too many other sushi places in the area that are much better. Don't waste your time.

I wish I could give this place a full five stars but they have some things to work on. I love the ambience of the inside so that's a plus. However after taking and delivering our drinks, our waitress disappeared. We had to flag down another waitress to take our order. Now the food. My steamed dumplings were on the bland side and only 4 to a plate for $5. My Bubba roll however, with tempura shrimp was AMAZING! I ate the whole thing. I tasted my hubby's Udon soup aand it was WAY too salty. I would have sent it back had I ordered it. If you have a groupon, try it out. Hopefully they'll fix some of their issues.

I mainly come here for the late night happy hour, half priced drinks and select food items. It's always a great time at night because of the DJ, and honestly the cheap drinks lol. It's great for the struggling USF students who need a cheap night out. The sushi isn't exactly 5 star, but what can you expect when it's cheap? You get what you pay for, honestly. If you come here at night then you should expect a good time, not gourmet food.

Wasn't sure about trying here after reading the other reviews but we had a great experience. Service was friendly and well paced. The sushi looked and tasted fresh. We sat at the sushi bar at 7pm on Thursday and we were in and out in an hour after adding a 3rd roll to our order after we had cocktails, appetizers and two sushi rolls. Whitney was our server and after we explained what we like, she made great recommendations.

Decided on Ocean Blue as a last minute date night option since the wife an I were in the mood for sushi. First impression of the interior was not too flattering, however I don't mind that "hole in the wall" type of find, so no judgement placed. It was kind of empty and for a Saturday night, was a bit concerned. Our waiter was super nice and eager to meet our needs and provide suggestions. We picked a great time since they were still working off of their sushi/drink happy hour. Prices for sushi were as expected for a dine in sushi spot. All of our selections were super fresh (most important for sushi) and tasty. Our drinks were quite nice and the crab rangoon was outstanding! We plan on returning soon.

This place used to be THE place to be. Great music, great drinks, and half priced sushi. Man oh man has that changed. Sushi quality and the drinks are pathetic . You are better off with gas station sushi. The music sucks. Very sad to see a place that used to be packed with people has empty tables. They should have never changed that Asian manager, he made that place what it was.

I was totally underwhelmed by both the food and the service here. I had higher expectations since some people seem to love it judging by their reviews, but upon further inspection the most positive reviews are from a few years ago. I came here with a coworker on a Friday for happy hour. They have a decent happy hour menu with some $4-6 apps and rolls (although a little further north on Dale Mabry you'll find an unbeatable happy hour menu at Sushi Alive). The normal menu is unreasonably expensive. $16 for a Volcano Roll? Just, no. This place doesn't justify these prices at all considering I could head to any of the more upscale sushi restaurants in Tampa and not pay that much for a roll. Our server was totally "blah" and would disappear for long periods of time. It took forever for our food to come out but I'm not sure if it truly took that long to prepare or if she failed to bring it out. The crab rangoon was inedible. They used some sort of weird spice in it and it was truly one of the worst things I've eaten in recent memory. The sushi was OK. By the time it came out I was so annoyed with our server that I just wanted to eat and leave. You just got an overall vibe from the staff that no one gave a crap about this place. There are so many sushi restaurants in Carrollwood, there's really no sense in coming here.

Been a few times with friends each time was worst then the last. The day time food is okay. But at night the quality of food goes down as well as the lighting. Our table complained about 3 sanitary violations & management was rude. No apologies. Only said they would comp our food. We didn't want "comp" food we wanted them to not put clean rice on the back bars floor "hidden". We left $125 worth of food untouched on the table.

I've come here many times for late night food, and it's a great spot to go for cheap sushi and drinks. I love stopping by here after going to World of Beer. It's kind of loud, as they have this mysterious club atmosphere they try to cultivate, but it has good energy. I've liked everything that I've gotten here in terms of sushi or appetizers. I also really enjoy their shot specials that happen during the first 15 minutes of every hour during late night. The service is generally very good, and the food comes out fast to tame all of those late night munchie monsters. If you're hanging out in Carrollwood and need some late night sushi, this place has got your goods!

Terrible service. They maybe will honor your groupon, and maybe not. They tried to talk us out of using it, to bring it another day. It was dishonest at worst and unethical at best. The place was not really full but we waited forever for mediocre food. If you are serving crap at least get it out fast. The food was meh, I have had a lot better sushi at a grocery store. With a better bartender, they place would make up for that, but no. I don't know what the charm of this place is, except maybe it is in Carrollwood and desperate people can go there for a hook up? I dont know. As a dining experience it was a terrible mistake.

Rather interesting... reading the reviews for Ocean Blue. So many varying opinions! We went for dinner... and were seated quickly, near the Bar / Sushi bar. I didn't care for the sports bar feel... with all the TV's going in the bar, and above the Sushi bar. I prefer a more intimate dining experience... but I am sure this attracts the crowd they are going for. Pop music was blaring pretty loudly too... enough to make conversation a little difficult. We both had a Tempura Appetizer... and it was ok, good selection of veggies, and the shrimp were good. It was a little greasy for me... I like flash fried tempura, that is crispy and not greasy. We ordered three different maki rolls, A Florida roll, a Dragon roll, and an Atom Bomb roll. They were good, with some distinct flavors... especially the Dragon roll (my girlfriend LOVES Unagi... so that was a hit). Service was good, the young lady who waited on us was moderately attentive.. and willing to answer a question or two about the area. And she brought us extra Wasabi... which was nice. Food was good, without being spectacular... Service was the same. Ambience was too much Bar... at least for me. So if you like the Bar scene... you may like Ocean Blue! We will continue our search for a "Favorite" Sushi bar.

Scott and I went to Ocean Blue last night for date night. We have been before but this time we decided to get entrees instead of sushi. We started with the tempura shrimp, which tasted very good. The tempura batter was delicious and had the perfect texture. Our only complaint was that the dish had more vegetables than shrimp. Each of the entrees came with a ginger salad and miso soup. No complaints on this, very basic but always delicious. Scott ordered the teriyaki shrimp and scallops which was served with vegetables and rice on the side. I ordered the shrimp yakisoba noodles. Both were small for the price, each was $17. Scott's scallops looked like they'd been cut in half so he only got about 2 scallops and 3 or 4 shrimp. Mine came with a decent amount of shrimp though. We also ordered a bottle of the Fuji Apple Sake, which is always one of our favorites! Overall we enjoyed our meals and experience. It isn't your traditional sushi restaurant experience but it is a good restaurant!

If you have ever had good sushi this place isn't for you. Awful atmosphere and the rolls are mediocre at best.

When this place first opened it was great. Sushi was good, drinks were on point, staff was attentive and friendly. It sucks now. I don't know what happened over the last couple of years but Ocean Blue has gone downhill all together. Hopefully new management comes in and turns this place around or another restaurant with the same concept of late night sushi opens up soon.

The sushi here is extremely poor. Never had what I'd call quality food here. Their night time bar atmosphere is good as long as its not super crowded with degenerates which happens occasionally. So if you're looking to grab a drink late night with some very average to below average sushi this is your place.

Totally worth it. ESPECIALLY during Happy Hour. Drinks are cheap, food is cheaper and the bartender is awesome. See for yourself....

My husband and I went there for dinner on a tues evening. We were seated pretty quickly and our order was taken within the next few mins. We ordered 2 house salads. Our waitress came back in 25 mins to tell us it will be another 2 mins. She didnt come back to our table after taking our order. While we were waiting, the next table next to us was complaining that their bill was wrong, they were charged for something they didnt order. We continue to wait and we felt that AFTER 25 MINS of waiting we had to leave. The wait staff that night was not seasoned and their prices were higher than normal sushi places. They are offering a groupon coupon and I would hate to see how the service will be with the flow of people coming in with that. First impresson was not good nor was the service. I like Toki Sushi, authentic and great service if you are in the Carrollwood area.

Love this place! Happy hour before seven and after 1o on the drinks and the sushi! I'm adventurous and will try pretty much anything but the rainbow roll is always favorite and I can eat 2! They have a ceviche seafood app with crispy wonton wedges and it is "smack your momma" good! Service could be a little better sometimes but the servers are always hopping cause it stays packed! Def go for lunch! You get 2 sushi rolls of your choice and soup for $10!! Fave lunch spot too! Plus while you enjoy your meal you can watch the ducks play in the little pond behind the restaurant! Def with you checking out' of you love sushi this is your place!

This place was a total disappointment considering the location and the decent Yelp reviews. The ambiance is terrible and the food is average at best. This place wins the award for the worst Tuna Tataki that I have ever tasted. It was totally bland and uninspired. The sushi rolls we had were forgettable. At least everything was fresh so they get a star for that. There are way too many quality dining options in this area of Carrolwood to waste your time in Ocean Blue.

My wife and I were in the mood for sushi so we trekked out to Ocean blue. When we arrived the hostesses greeted us, and started to look for a table to accommodate us. As we waited another couple came to complain about not being greeted for 20 mins. The hostess went to get a manager and forgot about us.. After we waited for 5 mins we went over to Anthony's coal fired pizza instead. Much better and very attentive service!

    To be honest, I have been in hospitality for 4 years now. I've been coming here for over 2 years and my opinion hasn't changed. Discovered the place through friends in which we would go on weekends to drink and party. They had DJs come out, not sure if it still occurs. It was a lot of fun. However, unless you go out of your way to talk to your server or bartender, you will not receive much "service." The service is just not the best. It's slow, and with a lack of personality. I have found that the only way to get some pep out of your server is to be more personable than they are. (Thank god for hospitality skills) The managers lack in communication and interaction with their guests as well. One manager, who also serves, is surprisingly unfriendly. Even had the opportunity to see where the good Lord split her. The level of class in the uniforms is very low. Bra straps aren't meant to be seen my lovely ladies! One last thing, the staff is constantly changing :( On the good side: when you make an impression, they remember you. If there is a mistake, they quickly fix it. I've never had an issue when returning an item(which has me happened very often may I add). The specials here are to die for. The atmosphere is average, but still a plus. The openness is inviting and not awkward. Try the green tea ice cream! You can thank me later (;

Average sushi, nothing special. The thing that is really annoying in this place is the service. I would much rather recommend Sushi Alive a couple of miles down the street. Nevertheless, Ocean Blue is opened late and have nice happy hour specials.

The two stars is mainly for the food and would have received more, but everything else was wrong.my wife and I with a another couple wanted to meet up for some good conversation over good food, but that wasn't the case. This place doesn't know if it wants to be a club or restaurant. I was confused with the dj cranking up the music as if we were in a club. I noticed other customers looking uncomfortable with the volume and style of music being played. Waiter/server was exceptable however once the food came out, I noticed the plates looked dirty. I don't think ill be going back to this place but take out will due

Owner is a Shyster So disappointing. Bought a groupon for lunch, and we were excited to go there. When we get there we find out it is happy hour Tuesday with specials all day. Doubly excited. We are laughing and high fiving each other thinking this is going to be a yummy lunch. Happy hour prices are decent, and we order a ton of food. When the bill comes we find out that because we are using the groupon we don't get the regular prices we have to pay premium (dinner prices) this was not disclosed to us in advance or at the time we presented the groupon. We had an 1 appetizer, 1 soup, and 1 salad (one order shared by two people) plus four rolls, and lunch comes to $71. $71 I couldn't believe it. Waitress delivers the bill, I look at it and say $71 how is that possible, well we charge you full price on every thing (which those prices were not even on the menu that we received). I say well that is not right, she crinkles her nose and says, "I know they kinda get you". I ask to speak to the owner and explain that I felt bait and switched). He immediately tells me that is all explained in the fine print (which it is...in the fine print...I didn't know I needed to read the fine print on the groupon). The problem could have been easily solved in many ways but he begins debating me about the fine print and tells me I should read it more carefully...classic Shyster move...i didn't understand so it is my fault. He is defensive and blames me and says there is nothing that he can do (seriously, you own the place, you couldn't think of anything else? No effort to make things right). The food is ok, not great, not bad...but way over priced compared to the dozen of other sushi places in Carrollwood, and after telling the owner that i felt a little cheated based on the way that all of this went down and the only thing he can come up with is you should have read the fine print... I will be voting with my feet. I like to frequent owner establishments because most of the time the quality of the product is better and the service is totally superior. Sadly, Ocean Blue is the exception. Food is decent but over priced and the service stinks...like the man says...read the fine print

I started going to Ocean Blue after I read reviews on Sake House (one word: cockroaches). I've been here a few times and so I figured I'm apt enough to write a review. The first time I went I had sushi and although it wasn't good enough to stand out in my mind as "fantastic", what my boyfriend ate was good enough to bring me back a second time or order his dish. Since then, I have ordered the teriyaki salmon every time I've been back. It's delicious. you get salad, miso, and white rice and vegetables with your "choice of protein". THe salmon is the most expensive (damn me and my pescotarian ways), but it still rings up under $20. They also have a full liquor bar which is a nice option compared to traditional sushi restaurants, and 2-for-1 specials every day from 4:00-7:00. The most recent time I went, my boyfriend ordered the Yakisoba noodles and he said he liked it but it looked a little over cooked to me. Our friend that joined us ordered the Sexy roll and the Spicy Tuna roll- both of which he said were amazing. This place received 4-stars from me because it seems to be the most delicious sushi restaurant within close proximity to USF. I know that I'll be returning. It didn't receive 5-stars because I feel like the location doesn't really hit the hammer-on-the-nail for decoration. Maybe with some pantings, or better lighting things could look better.

As far as Sushi goes, this place is just average in my opinion. By no means is this place bad, just not amazing. The Sushi is average priced and the service is pretty decent. The presentation as far as I could tell could use a little work and the flavor might need a little reworking, but was still an acceptable meal. Just an average sushi bar with a decent meal.

Fresh sushi and great happy hour deals! Stopped in for an early dinner and was impressed with the happy hour prices on sushi and drinks. Our table had a couple of appetizers to share: the Crispy Gyoza and the Sticky Canny Wings. Both were very well received. The Crispy Gyoza was a crispy pork dumpling which everyone was a fan of. The Sticky Canny Wings are chicken wings in a sweet chili sauce. Everyone ordered sushi rolls for dinner and they were fabulous. The Sexy Roll was on Happy Hour special and had fried shrimp, asparagus and cream cheese and was topped with avocado, tuna and eel. Fabulous! Service was smooth and kind even when dealing with a semi-difficult customer :) We happened by later the same evening for drinks and it seems like this place really takes off at night. Even on a Sunday night it was filled up with groups of young people hanging out, drinking and eating sushi. It was a fun atmosphere and it looks like they have a set up for a live band/DJ too. I would come back again, even if it is on the other side of town.

I really, really wanted to give Ocean Blue a better rating, but time after time of neglectful service and long waits has kept me from doing so. We first started going here the week they opened, and the quality of food and service has been on the decline. Add that to the change in ambiance from a restaurant to a club after 10, with the music inside and out so loud you can barely hear yourself think, let alone talk to your date, and, well, I doubt we will be returning. The value really isn't worth the hassle. The only redeeming thing here is that they're open late if you have a post-midnight spicy tuna craving.

You'll either love or despise this place depending on your maturity level. APPEARANCE This watering hole for young professionals has a very clean, modern, and ultra-hip look. A long winding bar is for both sushi watchers and alcohol drinkers. Tables are simple and don't attract much attention. MATURITY If you want a great assortment of "party-rocking" alcoholic beverages-- lots of specials too - lots of loud music, lots of the college-age crowd (mentally at least), and just happen to want sushi too... this is your place! So far this formula is working for OceanBlue. But this is MY YELP review... this place has no chemistry for me. My girly drinks have always been yummy, just the right amount of sweet and alcohol and creativity-- great for the price. But the loud atmosphere isn't for me. And the sushi? If you prefer American sushi with its emphasis on sauce and flare, then you'll like this. But my preferred traditional sushi with emphasis on the fish and rice took a backseat. SERVICE Ummmmmmmm... I can't say much for the servers except for unsmiling and brisk... but they get the work done. Ordering sushi takes forever though... at least the alcohol is good while you wait.

Awesome sushi for cheap. Is it the best in town? No. But it does it well enough for the right amount of $$.

Went in after seeing all of the positive reviews online, but the sushi was so-so and ok for the price. My big quip is with the shrimp tempura roll. The shrimp was rubbery and felt like it had been sitting in the case all day. Quickly nuked in the microwave, it came out hot, but not tasty. It was extremely disappointing. I also had the miso soup as an appetizer and it wasn't very tasty. Sure, I gobbled it up because I was hungry, but it wasn't flavorful and could have used more salt. Also, I used a $20 for $10 Creative Loafing coupon and the staff had not seen one before and didn't know how to process it. They thought I had to pay them $10 for the food, even though I bought the ticket online. I waited about 15 extra minutes for them to try and figure it out. Then, they added an 18% gratuity charge on top of that, for a party of one. I thought it was strange that they would add that to the check--normally it's up to the customer to decide what to leave.

Having recently opened, I've been meaning to go here for awhile. It's WAY out of the way for me, but, I was told I have to go. Actually, point of note, I ended up here after the Ciro's Yelp Event. :) I was already in Tampa and it wasn't too far out of the way. I sat at the bar, which I usually do because the service is always better especially since I'm there mostly for the libations and then the food. Plus it's easier to chat with a bartender about what they like/don't like and what I should order since I'm pretty open to anything. The four of us ordered....well let me back up...they have Kirinichiban AND Stella on draft...yay....and piping hot sake....yum. Anyway back to "The four of us ordered"...Tempura TNT roll, Super Protein roll, the Lollipop roll and the Saigon roll. They were all made exquisitely and tasted awesome. I'll admit I'm not a fan of the Lollipop...but only because of the flavors. There isn't anything wrong with it, it's just not for me. Then, the bombshell dropped...they have wings. Wait...what? Yes, wings. $3...SOLD...put the order in ma'am. These were stellar. I may not even order sushi next time...wow. OK...jk...I'm def ordering sushi next time :) The late-night atmosphere people are talking about, mainly the loud music...ok...I get that...but I'd rather have that then music that'll put me to sleep. Plus since I'm a drinker, bring it on and keep me entertained. I've even been known to sing-a-long to songs I should never admit to knowing.

This place is below average in food and service. We ordered several sushi rolls, Cali, Mexican, Sexy, and Lollipop. All of them tasted below average. The California and Mexican were not tasty at all. The fish quality was cheap and the sushi rice was too wet. The service was bad. We could not find our waiter half of the time and had to other staff members for service. The bill was incorrect since the waiter added items that we did not ordered into the bill. The decor was average and could have been better decorated with sophisticated theme. I would recommend Sushi Alive down the street if you live around the Carrollwood area.

I attended a birthday dinner here and it was the worst experience of my life. We arrived at 10:15pm and my initial reaction to the place was great, also they were 1/2 rolls and drinks. So first impressions were great but it went downhill fast. I did not receive my first order until 12:15 wait, it was the wrong order, so I wait again, and I get 2 out of 3 of the rolls I ordered and I never got my appetizer. WOW. granted we had a party of 15 or so people, so i can kind of understand but from experience at other places I have not seen so many mess-ups. I really didn't know who to blame. The waitress, the management, the sushi chefs. So at least I got 2 rolls, the presentation was horrible, they looked like they were done by a three year old in a hurry, and they were in a very cheap looking bowl, different from the ones I saw other people eat form. Did they run out of dishes?. The sushi was horrible and I let my friend finish it. I asked for my check and got out at like 1am because I could not handle it anymore. I did feel bad for the waitress because she seemed really stressed out and could not handle our large table. I want to believe they are a good sushi place because I liked the atmosphere but this was one of my worse nights eating out.

Great happy hour. I'm always surprised at how empty this place is between 5-7 pm. The happy hour menu offers plenty of choices at reduced prices - crispy gyoza, crab rangoons, and pork shumai are good starters and we always go for the tempura TNT roll. The service isn't stellar, but this food for these prices is a great deal. Good first stop for a Friday night or an early dinner during the week.

The food was disgusting. Used fish that looked like it was laying in the cabinet for days. Made me nauseous and throw up the entire next day. But their service is TERRIBLE! The worst service I've ever received. We were there for total of 3 hours (2/3rd of it was spent waiting for the food and the check). In addition, I got mischarged for TWICE the amount of my actual bill. Bottom line: THE WORST RESTAURANT I'VE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE. P.S. if you get a bald waiter who is around 35 y/o... RUN

I used to order to-go sushi at happy hour, except they changed the happy hour to not include sushi and didn't tell me until I arrived to pay. Sushi was good, but i wish I would of been warned of the change when I placed to order over the phone rather than when I arrived.

The food is really good, no complaints here at all. Not a fan of the nightclub that happens Friday nights. I like to come here and eat on a date, not try and talk through a million drunk Asians and loup rap music. And the service was AWFUL!!!!!!!!! Took forever to get anything, even a fork! The food is really good. Only reason I keep going.

I am sorry my first review has to be a bad one. Walked in to this place for their late-night. Should have turned around and walked out when I had the chance. If you're a grade-A douchebag or brainless tramp then you'll fit right in. Otherwise I would steer away from this place like the plague. The staff is a bunch of arrogant clowns. Hello, YOU WORK IN A SUSHI RESTAURANT. What are you so arrogant about? I am sure this place will do well for a couple of more months until people wake up (or throw up) and realize that this place, and it's too-cool-for-school sub-par sushi party is PLAYED OUT. I'm out, BRAH. And I ain''t comin back.

Late night-half-off sushi? I'm sold. However, (and this is a big however) this place turns up techno music at 10:30 and the whole restaurant is blasting with it. Arrived on a Friday night with my husband after my night class so we were dressed casual. I was so so excited for late night and half off sushi letmetellyou. Well, as soon as we walk in the place, there's a bouncer asking for our IDs and puts a wrist band on us...I was like really??I just wanna eat! The bouncer guy was like "ya, they make us do this." LOL So, we look into the place and tecnho music is blaring! I asked if we can sit outside and it was fine. On the way out though, I couldn't help but notice everyone else sitting inside looking miserable b/c the music was so loud. It looked really nice inside, big and open, with a huge sushi bar. Something that I wanted to experience but it was just so loud. (I swear I'm not an old person, it was pretty loud and obnoxious!) Once we got outside, we sat at an old wooden table that looks like it was leftover from someone's moving sale. LOL no decor on it, just a table. Other people were outside eating as well, and luckily the nearby WoB had an outside band playing so we can enjoy that music instead. Our waitress was young but nice. When I say young, I don't mean that in a creepy way-I wanted a cocktail after a long class and asked her what she recommended and she said "I don't know, I'm not 21." Ahh, ok, so I ordered a Lychee cocktail and it was delicious and told her she can recommend that from now on :D We ordered mexican rolls, a teriyaki dinner, and a crab rangoon roll. Crab rangoon roll was amazing! I would go back just for that. Mexican rolls did not taste fresh and my husband didn't even get his soup and salad for his $17 teriyaki dinner :/ The best part was...seeing a girl stumble out from the club/restaurant and puke. That's always nice! LOL Needless to say, we won't be coming back anytime soon..unless we are already drunk. :p One star for it being open late and being in Carrollwood and one star for the crab rangoon rolls. =)

I went to this place for its soft opening and it was fantastic. The food, service, and drinks were all very enjoyable...... And then I made the mistake of coming back. I returned about a week later with some friends for the late night drink specials and half off rolls. It was an absolute jungle in there. Every amateur drinker in Carrollwood came out to get trashed. I can appreciate a good buzz but being surrounded by 100 drunks bumping into your table while trying to eat is annoying. The waitress was doing her best but she was definitely overwhelmed with drink orders and our service suffered. When our good finally came out it was soggy and gross. I had one bite and refused to eat the rest unlike my friends who decided to choke it down since we waited so long. While waiting for our bill a fight between two drunk frat boys broke out in the middle of the restaurant. Luckily they were frat guys so no one got hurt. We finally left and before arriving home all 3 friends that ate were sick with food poisoning. To top it all off My work includes helping people in there time of need and about a month after this visit I ran a shooting in the parking lot. This place started as a decent restaurant but has turned into a drunken frat house with poor food quality and no concern for the patrons that go there.

I would never go back to this place again. I went there on a Saturday Night with a group of 8 other people around 10pm so we can take advantage of their 1/2 off sushi and drinks. The service was horrible. The server messed up on all our orders, he actually forgot what we order and had to get us to order again. How do you forget what we order if we marked it down on the sushi menu? It took them more than an hour to bring me my roll, I only order ONE roll. He even messed up our checks by double charging us, not to mention it took him a good 30 minutes to bring us the checks. Trust me, the 1/2 off deal is not worth your time unless you want to spend hours waiting for your food and disputing your credit card charges with them.

Seafood was not fresh. Multiple plates & a tea cup served to us were dirty, the bar surface was sticky and not kept clean. The "storage" door was open, it was a mess not the best sight when eating dinner. The floating shark with the "Jaws" music going around the restaurant was very tacky. This is a late night, fast food type sushi spot NOT a chill, chic, go out for a nice dinner spot. Should have known when I read a review comparing Ocean Blue to the Rack.

I came in here and it was dead. We didn't mine because we got great service. The food here is good with great presentation. They have a reverse happy hour here where drinks and food is half off after 10pm. It seems like this is the trend in the Tampa area with sushi restaurants becoming lounges at night.

I absolutely love this place. There is no other place like it in Carrollwood. I told a friend that I was in the mood to dance and he mentioned Ocean Blue. I was a little hesitant at first but now it is my favorite place. They have half off sushi and drinks after 10pm. Usually half off means they skimp you in some way shape or form but not here. Same portions, same qualitiy. The staff is super friendly and the music is great. I have had a great time every time I've been there. I highly reccommend anyone to try it out...I don't see how anyone can be dissapointed.

** Need for Customer Service Revamp ** I'm new in town, and had read some good reviews on this place, so when I received a gift coupon from Drugstore.com for $15, I decided it was a good day to try it out. Because we're still working on the house, I wanted to surprise my family, and grab some take out. When I walked in, the hostess asked whether I was going to use the gift coupon and ran to talk to the manager. Upon returning, she said that the manager said I couldn't use the coupon for take out. I asked to speak to the manager because no where on the coupon was that specified. The girl ran to the back again, and instead of returning with the manager, she came back and relayed that the manager would allow me to use the coupon, but not for happy hour. Huh? I didn't want happy hour, and never said I did. I'm a 50 year old woman, who wanted sushi take-out for her family. By this point I had picked out various dishes I wanted to order....but, why would I give my business to a restaurant whose manager didn't have the time/respect to come talk to me directly (despite the fact it was only 5pm on a Friday (19April) and the place was nearly empty). At this point, I no longer wanted to order. Their dishes might be good, but I'll never know. I'm sure there are enough other sushi places in town, that actually want my business.
