My son and I went here for lunch the other day as we sometimes do and we were very disappointed with the service. Our waiter acted like he didn't know we were even there sometimes. There happened to be two servers there that day and neither one of them seemed to eager to serve. The food was good but when you have poor service it can ruin the experience. I will go back again and hopefully will have a better experience.

I LOVE the Rocket Salad and the Goat Cheese Pizza! So good!

A great place for a cold drink, a little pricy and upscale, but a great/relaxed atmosphere.

I think their Goat Cheese Pizza, made with figs and caramelized onions and a Cabernet reduction sauce, is the single most delicious entree I have had in Tampa. Their "tuna tar tar" appetizer and sweet potato fries are great too. The shepherd's pie comes out so hot that it tends to burn my tongue. And the atmosphere is ideal for socializing, with its indoor and outdoor seating, and generally some sort of live music entertainment. Just be sure to either make reservations or be ready for a wait, because this place is crowded.

Just did happy hour at this place...and several Happy Hours they became!!! This is basically an English pub with a lovely Florida touch. Great outdoor seating, indoors looks like an English country side pub if you do not look too closely, nice crowd...excellent beer selection on tap!! For example Hoegaarden and Lambic from Belgium, Pilsener Urquell form Czech Republic. Fresh and happy tasting (no surprise...seemed everybody was working hard to keep the tap piping filled with fresh beer!) The food was also great. Try the sweet potato fries or the fresh salads. The pizzas are also great tasting. The waitresses are very friendly, the hostess went to a great length to accomodate our seating preferences. The prices are very reasonable considering the quality and location. Bottom line: A wonderful place! A+ grade!! Update Spring 2008: No more Hoegarden on tap, the pizzas are now undercooked...still a nice place to hang out and watch people etc...but you'll have to make do with inferior Belgian brews and maybe eat somewhere else. Only four stars now (mainly for the atmosphere)

This has become one of our new favorite places to go. Been here twice, but I look forward to going many many more times. The first time my bf had the lamb chops and I had the bangers & mash - wow - both dishes were so amazing. They are moderately priced but seriously give you SO much food for the price. It is totally worth it. Their beer selection is pretty good too - I of course go for the British ones when I'm there - Bass or Harp. The second time we went my bf had the flank steak and I had the fish and chips - the steak was slightly overcooked (he ordered med rare and it was more like med) but it was still delicious. My fish and chips were perfect - they really do chips well! You get a side plate with your fish and chips or ketchup, tartar, and vinegar...I love having all 3 options and they were each delicious. Definitely give it a try - you won't regret it! :)

Yeap 3 stars! Located on S Macdill, close to Roux. Not many parking spots available, there are 2 spots in the front and couple more in the back of the restaurant. Lunch menu doesn't have many options that were exciting. They don't carry quiches anymore and no more smoked salmon, which was disappointing. I ordered the Steak sandwich: Thinly sliced flat-iron steak topped with caramelized onions on a toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, and a side of Stilton fondue. It was lacking flavor, caramelized onions didn't add any extra flavor. All I could taste was the bun. The burger came with a side of cabbage and cucumber salad, very yummy! Not worth $12 price tag. We also got a side of spicy fries, fries with Cajun seasoning. Overall, meal was below average. Not sure I'll be back (atleast not during lunch).

We came here on a whim after a day at the dog beach. We were attracted to the idea of an English pub. The beer selection is ok, a few specialty beers on tap but not as spectacular as I've seen in some Pubs. The entrees were upward of $18+. So we stuck to the pub fair food. My boyfriend got bangers and mash and it did not disappoint. Two bangers on a pile of mash potatoes and onion gravy with onion rings and grilled onions. I got shepherds pie and it was true to the classic. In my opinion the serving size was a little small. Both of our meals were $12 each and I knew the second he put the plate down I wouldn't have leftovers which is a little sad but that's ok. We wanted the toffee cake for dessert but they had sold out, bummer. The best part of this was we could bring our dog on the patio, and a few other people showed up with their dogs as well. It was a very relaxing atmosphere and seemed like a lot of locals go there on the regular.

Really disappointed. We had to full court press our server Sean to order food and get refills on drinks. He acted like we were keeping him from something. Also, it took 30 minutes for our apps to come out and almost an hour for dinner even though we ordered it all together. We were there for almost two hours and could not even get drink refills without a hassle. Tables were sat after and left before us. We were told the kitchen was backed up after having to track down an owner but other parties we observed entering with us or after us were served ahead of us. Also, there were dirty dishes and leftover food on the table next to us for at least 15 minutes, which is not a function of the kitchen. When the table next to us was seated, Sean came over and was a different server entirely, telling them the specials (did not happen for us) and being really attentive. I was bummed because not only did he not check on us but we had to take turns finding him in the restaurant to get his attention. Then we saw an owner go to the table and talk to them, indicating that they were friends of his. On to the food. The highlight was a fondue cheese sauce we ordered to dip sweet potato fries in. I ordered the Asian dumplings. They were $12 and three were served. Then I had the goat cheese pizza. The balsamic reduction was great. I added arugula, which made it taste better. Otherwise kind of plain and one note. The crust looked premade. One of my friends had a pizza on a tortilla that looked better than mine and another had a thai chili rice bowl, which he described as ok. Service gets a D -, food gets a C-. Tough night.

Ordered the pub burger and the Shepard ' s pie. We loved the Shepard ' s pie! So good! No issues with parking. Awesome, quaint, atmosphere. Live music that wasn't loud or obnoxious. Loved the decor. They projected a black and white movie on the building next to the pub which you can see from inside. Super cool and unexpected. Staff were attentative and pleasant and allowed us to hang out and enjoy our meal (slowly).

We popped in for the first time this weekend for Sunday brunch. I was thrilled to sit outside and soak up the sun on the beautiful patio. The service was great and the waitress promptly got us our drinks ($5 mimosas, what!?). I opted for the Steak Sandwich and my husband decided to do an Eggs Benedict dish. I was very impressed with my sandwich. The steak was cooked just right and the stilton cheese sauce was legitimite. My spouse was somewhat disappointed with his as it was a bit cold and the poached egg wasn't runny enough for his liking. He agreed that my meal was awesome and that the over all taste of his was pretty darn good (aside from the temperature and runniness) and we agreed that we would definitely return. Mad Dogs and Englishmen is a great spot to sit outside and drinks some cold drinks on a nice day!

Great place to brunch! It is not very busy for brunch and you can even make reservations. The brunch menu ranges from basic to a few speciality items like toast with an egg fried in the middle of it. I enjoy this place for dinner as well. I wish they hadn't gotten rid of the Brie appetizer so maybe they will see this and bring it back! Overall a great chill place for a meal and a drink with a dog friendly patio. Parking is tight (literally) but it seems you can park across the street after hours.

Hands down, one of the best lunch spots we've found. Service is always spot on, even with a crowd. The wait staff's attentiveness is consistent across the entire crew. We always sit outside, so they're always very good about finding us a table that "pens" the kiddos in but where they can interact. The drink situation is the only thing I'd frown at, just because I'm always wanting a gin and tonic when I sit down here. But, the beer and wine selection is great, and having both Stella and Stella Cidre helps that, along with a good selection of local brews. Food is always well done. The salads are fresh, particularly the mix of greens. The addition of an expanded brunch menu is also welcome, as we typically eat around that time following swim lessons. The full English breakfast will feed a small army. The selections for the kids are pretty much pub fare, but since we're essentially eating an early meal at a pub, it's what we expect, as do the kids. However, ordering anything from the brunch menu greatly expands their selections, so there's ample variety to where they don't feel like mom and dad are plopping another burger in front of them while they enjoy better food. Finally. Whatever you order, get a side of the Stilton fondue. You good literally put it on roofing shingles and make them taste good.

Had the English breakfast Brunch. Have had stomach ache since I ate it five hours ago. Not to mention that I waited for a good chunk of time before we were served . Personally I would try this spot again for dinner but brunch seemed disorganized and not the right call. It would take a lot for me to go back soon, however. Just an average meal that was over priced so I will give it two stars. Also they don't serve mashed potatoes until 5pm which is a pet peeve of mine that I frown upon. Just didn't like the Irish vibes here.

Did not expect the great food and great service! I have driven by dozens of times and finally came here for a business meeting. Food great (Thai shrimp...wow), service...very attentive but not intrusive. I am really really impressed. Will come back.

This place is a reliably good time. Full disclosure: I worked here as a server for two years. HOWEVER, if you've ever been a server you know how quickly food can become gross and completely unappetizing. I pine for this food. I made a lot of friends here and what do I miss most? Tie between fish n chips and Eggs Englishmen (brunch). Great atmosphere and tasty fries... sweet potato or regular. And, to be fair, I haven't worked here for almost 3 years now. Still go back a lot because it really is good from both sides of the "hospitality equation."

Great steak sandwich. Even better is the Stilton Cheese sauce. Add in friendly bar staff and you have a winner. Nice outdoor seating and they do allow dogs so keep that in mind. Only improvement I would make is adding a beer list.

Mad Dogs is another nostalgic Tampa restaurant for me. My mom used to run her bakery out of a tea shop that was once upon a time right across the street, so way back in the day we frequented Mad Dog's for lunch. I didn't see it on their menu when I glanced online (sad), but they used to make a killer grouper sandwich. Hopefully they still do, but I'll have to go back another time to find out. . Fast forward to 2015, the boy and I were looking for a decent brunch spot for Sundays. I'm an eggs Benedict fanatic, he's not really a breakfast person (madness) so we needed good lunch options, too. If it hadn't been for a Yelp search, Mad Dogs would have never crossed my mind as an restaurant for this. I ordered the Benedict that came with steak and the Stilton Fondue that it appears they are now known for. He ordered the steak sandwich, which also comes with the fondue. I have to conceded, the steak sandwich was much better than the Benedict (weirdly the fondue that was on the side of his sandwich tasted better than what was on top of the Benedict, even though they were supposed to be the same), so the hunt for a great Benedict in Tampa still continues, but I see Mad Dog's becoming a steady part of our routine. It's pretty chill (especially if you sit inside- the patio was packed, but inside was nice and quiet at 1pm), the food is good enough to be a memorable and pleasing meal although it is definitely missing the "omg this is the best" wow factor. A few things started to dim the experience towards the end though. They charged $2.50 for a side of hollandaise, to an eggs Benedict. Maybe I'm absolutely crazy, but that seems incredibly steep... For a side of hollandaise. Also, service was pretty lacking. Very sweet but oh so neglectful server. Basically a once we got the food we didn't see him again until about 15 minutes after we had finished eating scenario. Coffee was refilled once before we got our food, but water was not once refilled (I would have requested it if he had come back over to check), and in general we just spent a lot of time waiting for him to wait on us. But hey, at least he was pleasant and the food was good. We'll definitely be back- maybe next weekend. Mmmmm steak sandwich.

So sad that the food is inedible and the service so unsanitary and incompetent, because this restaurant has a cosy pub atmosphere inside and a lovely garden terrace.

I ran out of options figuring out what to have for dinner tonight and decided to give this place a shot for the first time. Since it was raining and I was still in my "running errands outfit", it was a take out night. After reviewing their menu online (looking for something yummy and healthy at the same time), I ended up with their chicken sandwich. Oh my! It was so yummy. Lets start with the feta cheese on top of the chicken. What a great combination. Oh...wait....this get even better! The cilantro ginger sauce that comes with it, it's out of this world. The BEST dipping sauce EVER! The chicken was so moist and tender. Trust me, this sandwich made my night. The service was great and the bartender was very lovely.

I absolutely love Maddogs. EVERYTHING is great. I've never been disappointed in their food. Pub burger? Amazing. Steak sandwich? Amazing. Salads? Amazing. And that's just lunch. I went here for dinner once with family and everyone was blown away by their food. The shrimp appetizer was delicious. For our entrees, My husband had the pub burger (one of my favorites), I and one other diner had the fish and chips, and the two other diners had the curry and bangers & mash. Great food across the board. We also ordered three desserts between the 5 of us- toffee cake with ice cream, apple cobbler, and cheesecake. I didn't care for the toffee cake (too dry), my nephew inhaled the cheesecake before anyone else could try it so I'll assume it was good, but the apple cobble was the shining star! If you have room for dessert, you must order it! Maddogs is the best!

Wonderful atmosphere. Great food, beer, & Wineselection. Full of regulars called by name. Yet as an out of towner I was made to feel welcome. Service was tops! A most try.

Authentic, contemporary atmosphere and food, Mad Dogs is a delightful eatery/pub hidden MacDill. Dinning inside was comfortable and adequately paced for a Friday night dinner. Shepard's pie, a lazy order admittedly, was perfectly constructed and a surprising delight. My dinner party's individual orders were equally delicious, with the exception of fish & chips which came off rather banal. Parking can be tricky for dinner, so commute with your party, or just visit Mad Dog's patio in the afternoon for a leisurely pint!

I was visiting a friend in Tampa last weekend and walked here for a late lunch one day when she was working. It's a cute little place - divey chic?!?! The food was quite good for a bar - I had fish & chips, which was a pleasant surprise. The bartender was very friendly, as were the other patrons at 3 p.m. on a Thursday. I'd definitely return.

Parking---horrible! But hey, welcome to south Tampa! Service-very friendly! Our waitress was really sweet and was constantly refilling our drinks and very attentive without smothering us! Food-YUM...my hubby and I both had the steak sandwich (though I got sweet potato fries) and day-um was it good! The sandwich comes with a little bowl of melted cheese for dipping...I was reaching over into my hubby's serving in no time! So tasty, but very rich! Only complaint is a glass of house wine was $8! Pretty standard, yes, but I was hoping for more hole-in-the-wall pricing to go with the location and vibe. Next time I am trying the beer and shepherd's pie!

Beyond pub food! Well prepared quality meals. The salad was swimming in vinegar and the fries were extra salty but all else was delicious. A bit Pricey but worth it. Have a problem with single hole toilets in a bar this size but at least they were clean. Attentive staff who knew the menu. Will come back with Brits!

Quick Summary: It's pub food, you'd have to try to mess that up but they did do a proper medium rare, and you'd be surprised how often that is messed up. I'd like to come back and have a couple of pints next time... it is a pub after all. Happened upon this location for lunch by myself. Normally in this situation I'd order a second dish to get a better feel of their cooking but the Pub Burger and Spicy Fries with the curry aioli were so yummy, I felt confident with my rating. The burger btw was a very nice thick patty, and very nicely cooked to medium rare. I got it with the stilton cheese, a little bit salty for my tastes, probably go with a different one next time. But I slathered on that curry aioli and mmm mmm mm... I also like that they use red onions instead of white and spinach instead of lettuce. The spicy fries are never spicy enough for me, but they came with a perfect crisp and crunch and not over done, so that's always a good thing. Dip some of that in the aioli.... ooh yeah... Overall I enjoyed the early afternoon meal on the deck; seemed to be a popular seating area on this particular day. Chilled out with some of their unsweetened iced tea (which was also pretty good, usually I'm seeking the sugar but this one was very nicely brewed). Will be back for brews.

Nice for a different place to go in South Tampa for a drink. I have eaten here a few times as well and both of us agreed that the food was just "meh"...however, they have a nice patio and actually opened up a few more booths and benches that I noticed yesterday when I went to have a few drinks last night. So for me, good on drinks/atmosphere, "meh" on food.

I've never been a fan of English fair. Having tried bangers and mash, various unidentified meat pies, the ubiquitous fish and chips, mushy peas, Yorkshire pudding, tomatoes and beans for breakfast, etcetera, etcetera... It's just never done it for me. But this is place is different which is definitely a "good thing". Hidden on page four of their menu, after all the expected and even a few unexpected items, is a fig and goat cheese pizza. This sweet and savory item is a taste explosion. I've never seen it on the menu in London or frankly, anywhere else in the world. Let's keep it as our little secret.

First, remain calm about the parking. Being at Mad Dogs and Englishmen is worth it. There isn't much I like more than reading through a quiet lunch with a pint of Guinness and a Mad Dog Salad (field greens, Roquefort, spiced pecans, and just the right drizzle of a very good emulsified raspberry vinaigrette) to which I add a grilled chicken breast or, if I'm very hungry, I'll ask for a piece of grilled ham (which they serve in the plowman's lunch). The service is as it should be: Unobtrusive, kind, and available when needed. I'm usually waited on by a wonderful red-headed lady. Cool dogs are more than welcome. Smoking is allowed around the small outdoor bar. Big fans/heaters keep the outdoor area very pleasant. Caveat: I tried the homemade ice cream a few times and would suggest they toss it out if it's freezer burned but serve it if it's good (yes, that means staff has to try the ice cream). :)

Ok..great menu and food. It ends there. Service is horrible. When we spoke to management about our second horrible experience with the same server (who forgot our appetizers on both occasions) we were basically called liars and then handed so called "free drink coupons" they required a food purchase for the discount...thats not free. Fine if you are ok with horrible service..which tyen makes you wonder what you paid for at a restauranr where losing customers and money hand over fist seems to be there business plan. After giving it multiple chances and being disappointed every time, i will never go back and I wouldn't reccommend it to anyone.

GREAT food in an dive-y relaxed patio setting. We bring the dogs at least once a week, prices are fair for the high quality food, though at first - you wont realize you're about to get a gourmet meal. You'd expect it to be typical pub food, but whoever they have cheffin' it up back there really has a handle on fine dining. The burger is absolutely killer, Mad Dog salad is a staple in our lives, the fish specials rock like monster trucks, Lamb chops... wait... let me stop... I've had almost everything on the menu and will just keep rambling on. It's all good. They "only" serve beer and wine, but their vast selection of each is so eclectic, you wont find yourself missing the spirits. Their bartenders (especially the Brittish fella and the blonde in cowboy boots) have plenty of spirit and will keep you entertained.

I really do like this place and it's so close to home! Not only can you get your fair share of pub grub with a higher end twist but you also get some very nice thai-flaired dishes, or a steak.... Drinks are a-flowin', I always stick to my Strongbow - one of the few places that has it, although they only have bottles, not on tap or large cans. We frequent the place often and except for sometimes the service is lacking in friendliness and recent past chef turnover was a little discerning at first, but they are doing a pretty good job at it keeping some of the best items on the menu and making some changes to others (one item we are not happy about is the tempura shrimp is no longer available - they have a nut-crusted shrimp now and just isn't as good....will just save us from getting too full too soon). Last visit in this past week, we were visited by the manager and he was very, very nice and at the end of the night - bought our drinks! WOW! When does that ever happen anymore? :) For a great dessert, there's the carrot cake which very good. But better yet, when they have it (and they only get it when a special lady brings it over) the toffee cake is ever so yummy! It's truly a treat. We've also had a couple other of their desserts. I have to say, if you just go for dessert you won't be disappointed!

This place is good. Their food is freaking awesome. Don't listen to the negative reviews. They sound like negative people. I got the chicken skewers and they were so tender and juicy and flavorful. The sugar snap peas are amazing - crunchy, sweet, and fresh. Great meal and cool desserts. Also try the steak sandwich. Omg so good.

After my third visit to Mad Dogs, I've finally come to enough of a decision as to how to review. The food is decent, I'm not sure about the high end prices on some (majority) of the meals, but I can't complain much about the steak sandwich that I have had twice. The sliced steak sandwich is $12 at Bern's as the price tag as Mad Dogs is....$12. Hm. The service has been okay, but I was really very stumped during my most recent visit. It was raining, so half of the patio wasn't an option for seating. There were two hostesses, 5 servers, one bartender and at least 2 managers/owners and there was an open table in the middle of the room. We waited 30 minutes to be seated ( I think that there was one party before us) and couldn't really figure out why (we were a party of 2)....the dining room is not huge (seats less than 50) and the turnover or wait wasn't even on the radar. The hostess could use some help. My second visit, I had no idea she was the hostess ( I thought a guest was the hostess but thankfully I didn't reveal that) and this time around I was super unimpressed with the lack of communication. Your job is to do a few things: Greet the customer (no), Ask how many are in the party (I supplied this) and let them know if there is a wait, take their name etc. None of that happened and after I said "2", hostess #2 walked off with 2 menus, so I followed her. Hostess 1 called out " Ma'am! She's not seating you." Last time I checked, I'm not a mind reader. Bottom line, if I want a $12 steak sandwich, I'm not headed here.

Now that two of my friends do not work here anymore I have complete freedom to be as honest in my review about this place as I have always wanted. Let me start by saying that I grew up on the Bayshore side of Tambay which is less than walking distance from here. Over the MANY years I have eaten and drank here more times than I can count. Partly because I knew/know employees here, I can walk/stumble home and it was convenient for a quick bite. Food: Know that this place tries to be gourmet but they just simply aren't. Not even close. For bar and pub quality they are okay... just okay and nothing more. It looks good on paper but is poorly executed. Drinks: A bit over priced for this far south on macdill but I'll consider it a convenience up charge. However it is extremely unfortunate that they DO NOT have any liquor. That's their loss. Service: If you are sitting at the bar it is great. After that everything tends to go down hill very fast. In fact the service declines as you get further from the bar...weird? I'm sure they mean well... it just doesn't come off that way. All in all: Mediocre. Over priced.

I had a serious craving for fish and chips. I am originally from New England and we have some great clam shacks up there with awesome fish and chips. I found this place while searching for fish and chips in Tampa and placed a to go order. They had better reviews than the other places. The reviews were right - it is absolutely amazing. I will continue to get my fish and chips from this place. Highly recommended!

I've been here twice now and I'm very impressed. Had the scallops and mashed potatoes topped with greens tossed in a citrus dressing the first time, which is what prompted me to go back. I ate everything on my plate, it was delicious! Despite Florida being a peninsula, I've found that it's very hard to get good seafood here, but my scallops were seared perfectly and I was very happy with the portion size of my dinner. Went back for my birthday, made a reservation to sit outside as it was a Friday night (highly recommend making a reservation) and the atmosphere was great. We had a brief wait while they got our table ready, which seemed reasonable as the place was packed, but there was a movie projected on the side of the building next door which was fun and entertaining. My husband and I shared the Curry Chicken with toasted almond rice and sauteed spinach, and a rib eye steak special that was served with rainbow chard and roasted new potatoes. Everything was great, but especially the herb butter on the steak and the crunch imparted to the potatoes. I also love that they serve a variety of greens with their dishes and they are always cooked/dressed deliciously. The only critique I can offer is of their naan: it's more like pita bread. Still pretty good, just not with fluffy air pockets like you would expect. A small price to pay for great service, amazing entrees, and solid atmosphere. Reading the other reviews, it sounds like people are largely disappointed when they order "pub food"/sandwiches and then get the check. Go for dinner. Order a meal. With vegetables. The only other issue might be that the food is portioned for an adult human, which some people who are regularly overfed might find smallish. I like it because I can eat everything on my plate and not feel violently ill, but to each her own.

The food here is consistently three stars, but the great atmosphere throws it up to the four star level. The place is relaxed and has that cool, but doesn't need to try to be cool vibe. The fish and chips are wonderful, particularly the fries along with the malt vinegar. I always appreciate properly grilled meat, and Mad Dogs does not disappoint with their lamb. It was well seasoned, portioned properly, and cooked a perfect medium-rare. We also enjoyed the brie appetizer, but the chicken curry was nothing special. We did not get dessert, but now that I read all the reviews, I really wish we would have tried the homeade ice cream. We'll definitely be back when in the area.

Exactly the restaurant I was looking for tonight--is how I feel each time I dine at Mad Dogs. The food is pub foodie. The fish and chips won't disappoint and service is prompt. Patio is dog friendly and cozy.

My friends and I love to order the fish and chips here and sip on a Guinness. They have a nice outdoor seating area that has fans for the summer. Parking is not that good but plenty of parking in the lot next to the restaurant.

We used to somewhat enjoy coming here. Food was good when they managed to get your order correct, but at least the English pub vibe was great compared to several other local spots. Unfortunately for at least the last several visits it has been overrun with noisy poorly behaved children. And service has been terrible. Groups of Kids under 10 sitting at the bar screaming is not an adult environment for beer and wine. Letting your kids run screaming and playing between tables in a crowded pub is definitely not good for a business lunch or dates of the others that are paying money in hopes of a nice experience. Who wants to have to scream over them while having a glass of wine? So if you are looking for what pretends to be haute pub to have a pint and a bite of overpriced food and don't mind actually being trapped in a Chuckey Cheese environment where you are expected to babysit south tampa brats with your meal--this is the place for you !!! In addition the the terrible atmosphere, service is among the worst in Tampa. And it's not any better even if you are a regular. We were 2 to 3 plus visits per month regulars for about 2 years. We put up with it because it was walking distance to our house. Tampa has such a limited selection if decent places to eat. But after we had to drive to get there it became so glaring that this place is overrated and poorly run. You will also often find that your order is not correct. And about a month ago there was an awful sewer like stench coming from the kitchen. Who knows what that was?

Ask for the dirty ho! It is a mix of Hoegarten (spelling may be of) and Lambic Frambois. A very summer beer mix that is very refreshing. You can find the ingredients cheaper in town at Publix however this is my go to spot for good food and good beer. The outside atmosphere with hugo the bartender has me coming back every time!

The first time I ate at MD & Englishmen, I had exactly the experience I expected. Pub food served by a hunky young guy with lots of people watching. My food was good but nothing so amazing that I was dying to go back. This is all changed at my second time eating there. For lunch! I was shocked at the lunch food items as they all looked amazing and from looking at what other patrons were eating, they are really looked good too. The curry chicken salad wrap is a MUST. I will go there over and over and over again for that alone. It's not overly curried and they grill the tortilla it's wrapped in. Plus, you can get fruit as an option instead of the fries. The fries did look good though... The best part about this place besides the curry chicken salad wrap of course, are the prices. With every place in South Tampa charging an arm and a leg for lunch, I was thrilled to walk out under ten bucks for a filling and delicious meal.

I love pubs, and I love this place. I had been wanting to come here for a while, but my husband insisted that he didn't understand the idea of a "fancy" pub. I wish I had talked him into coming here earlier. We shared the shrimp appetizer and loved the dipping sauce so much we were dipping the lettuce garnish in it to get more of it. My husband had the fish and chips and loved them. I had the red curry shrimp, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. They have a great wine and beer selection. Oh, and did I mention that they make their own ice cream? Swoon.

Good to Very Good food -- nothing that's going to wind up on an episode of "The Best Thing I Ever Ate," but well executed and tasty with some really nice surprises from time to time. SAVE ROOM FOR THE HOUSE MADE ICE CREAM. DO NOT ARGUE. Peanut Butter was simply the best confection I've tasted in a very long time. The other offerings are worth a specific trip just to enjoy them. And then there's that whole beer and ice cream thing that just works... Service. You will read "if you become a regular the service improves." That actually should read "if you go regularly you will learn whom to avoid getting as your server." About half the service staff are decent, approaching very good. I advise going slightly early, having a pint at the bar and watching/listening for a bit to gather intelligence. Or you can read some of the reviews here -- they're not wrong.

Great English Pub in South Tampa, but if you aren't a regular at Mad Dogs the service is horrible. I have gone on a few occasions and always leave after one drink because I get tired of trying to track down our waitress so I pay my bill and leave. It's a shame since they usually have really good beers on tap! On our last visit we waited for our waitress for fifteen minutes without anyone stopping by our table. I would have forgiven the waitress, but there were only two tables occupied so I am not sure why the waitresses were gossiping instead of bringing a menu or water to our table. I haven't gone out of my way to return to the bar since. Nice patio area and good menu. One of these days I am going to stick around long enough to order some food! The place always packed during happy hour so arrive early if you want to find parking.

In a word - disappointing. The food was subpar, service and parking poor. Visited here for lunch on a Friday for the first time. For years I've driven by and seen big dinner crowds and heard rave reviews from friends. Maybe it's one of those Palma Ceia places that gets by on pretentiousness. Took a while just to figure out where to park, and when we finally found the front the hostess was far too busy chatting to tell us where to sit. We were finally seated next to a table that was unbussed. It was so nasty, and dirty forks literally fell off the table onto me. I have no idea who our actual waitress was as it took three different people to take our orders and bring the food and bill. The table was finally bussed 15 minutes later. The food was mediocre. Everything tasted frozen and was lukewarm. The burger was tough and had no flavor. Fish was mushy and chips were bland. Fries with both tasted like they came out of a bag. Maybe the evening is better, but next time I'm going to try Wimauma next door.

Sampled several times for both the bar and restaurant. Both were fine and nice to have some Brit touches. Good sandwiches, salad and fish/chips. Parking is scarce but worth trying .

I absolutely love this place. It is a small English pub in the heart of South Tampa. When eating out I typically find one thing on the menu that I like and stick with that however my boyfriend likes to try different things each time and I have to say, every time we have eaten there we have never been disappointed. Their calamari appetizer is absolutely amazing, as well as their scallop entree. If you have yet to try out this place it is a must. The staff is very friendly as well.

Yep, getting here early solves the parking problem. With the mindset of trying not to eat not so good for you food, I opted for a salad. One thing I never do at an establishment as this as I always want the fish n chips or something. But I stayed my course and ordered the Jicama apple salad and OMG I was soooo happy! Don't even get me started on those sweet potato fries. YUMMY! I'm actually craving it right now as I write this...hmmm what time do they open....?

My family has been going to Mad Dogs and Englishmen for quite some time. Let me start by saying it is a great place to grab a drink. They have a nice array of beers hailing from all over the world. The ambiance is sweet as well--great patio area surrounded by plants and vines with wood accents along with fans above to keep us happy customers cool. The food: It's simple, not fussy food-executed properly. I have had the spinach and avocado salad several times..Every time the spinach is at peak condition and bright green the way it should be. Also, GET THE FISH AND CHIPS...Served with the proper accompaniments: house made tartar, cocktail sauce and malt vinegar. A U.K. original which is done very well here. The dessert: Like I said before...simple food executed well. House Made Ice Cream. Need I say more?? Tip: Get there early Friday and Saturday this place gets packed quickly!

Nice local place to go and have fiah n chips. The fish is flaky and my husband says they are the best he has ever had. I like that the hummus comes with fresh tomatoes, i do wish there were some more vegetarian items, but understand it is an english pub. The rocket salad and pizza is good. Great option as it is always a good casual place to go with great food. Pub atmosphere is great and there is a patio.

I used to go here about 2-3 times a week. I dont live nearby any longer. The food is amazing. Sweet potato fries, shepherd pie, salads, burgers, wraps, hummus all have a unique chef stamp. That guy should be on Top Chef. Dog friendly, good service, relaxed environment, nice old-school laid back decor. Just go. lol

I can bring my dog to the patio and enjoy a Black Velvet (Guinness & Cider) with anything on the Pub Favorites menu, since they are ALL AWESOME! I can't decide what my favorite is between the Fish 'n Chips, Shepherd's Pie, Pub Burger, or Steak Sandwich. Like that they are open for brunch and don't forget to try the homemade ice cream too.

This is a typical weekend afternoon place for us to go. They have the best sweet potato fries I've had anywhere. I only wish they had a great spicy sauce to dip them in. Their fish and chips are amazing as well as their Fresh and Crisp salad. My husband loves their fish sandwich and their burger. Malt vinegar is always his go to for the fish. They also have mini bottles of Prosecco and rotating IPAs - hard to beat. Great casual place - sometimes the service is slow but they're very nice.

Unacceptable service for any establishment. We had more service from the host staff than the server. While it may have taken 15 min for entire group to be seated, there is no reason for it to take 20+ minutes to take drink orders for those seated first, 45 min to take a food order, or 1 hr 20 min to get water. Other staff brought food. Server never checked on us. Brought check, collected money, but didn't even return. She had the hostess bring them back. Upon speaking with management about my concern with automatic 18% gratuity for a party of 9 when little service was given that we should show our "gratitude" he said perhaps she had too many tables and a table of drunks inside coloring on the table. Don't make excuses, fix it. The two complimentary beverages to encourage us to return is to little. I would have felt better tipping 3% for the number of times we saw the server. As for the food, calamari was good. Crisp and fresh salad has potential but is entirely too wet. Try draining it or using less dressing.

Every time I visit Tampa I make a point of visiting this restaurant and bar. Excellent dining menu, including fish & chips, and beer on tap. The owner. Wilton Morley, is the son of the very famous English actor, Robert Morley, and the restaurant brings back many fond memories of England right here on Tampa Bay.

South Tampa doesn't have that many local gems in my book, but Mad Dogs & Englishmen is absolutely one of them! This quaint, local British pub offers a fantastic menu. Some of my favorites include: the cucumber salad, burger, steak sandwich (don't' forget the fondue Stilton cheese for dipping), delicious sweet potato french fries, as well as a fantastic beer and wine selection. With indoor and outdoor dining space, this casual destination is a favorite in our house...including our toddler who has enjoyed the fish n'chips and other kiddie options on several occasions. Note: Dogs are welcome on the patio (leashed of course). A wonderful for choice recommended by a long time local....Give it a Go!

I'd define Mad Dogs as an upscale pub. The interior is well lit; elegant. A nice looking bar inside is about 10 seats. The outdoor area in the front has a little more casual. Excellent European draft beer selection and the sweet potato fries are some of the best I've tasted. I recommend ordering the Fish and Chips but with the sweet potato fries (instead of regular fries). It's so good, I thinkg that's the only food i've ever had there. Why mess with something delicious, right? Here's what keeps this from 5 stars... I don't feel like it's a place I can really relax in. The inside is just too brightly lit up. I want my English pubs a little darker. In addition, the outdoor seating isn't comfortable and I feel like I'm right up against other patrons. And then the interior decor feels way too formal for (again) what I want in an English Pub. So maybe the bar? Well the bar is right along the main path in and out of the restaurant, so it always feels like you're in the middle of things sitting there. Maybe that's good for you. But it's not for me. The service has been hit or miss too. Sometimes it's excellent, other times it's been slow. But I've never had terrible service. It's definitely worth a visit. Order yourself a Black and Tan, Fish and Chips, sit outside and tell me what ya think!

On our first weekend living in Tampa our friends took us here for a casual dinner and some drinks. I really am not a fan of English food so I was so happy to see so many other choices on the menu. We started with the sweet potato fries and the hummus plate. Both were very good and then I had a salad with grilled chicken and the others had a steak sandwich that they said was very good also. The service was good and there was a nice selection of beer and wine. They have a large patio that they allow dogs on so we will absolutely come back with our pooch. Cheers!

Our dinner experience was pleasant. Good food and atmosphere. On the inside the tables are a bit too close and if you have a loud neighbor it can ruin your meal. 5-3-09 Visited again and were not overwhelmed. The food is ok but tends to be a bit bland. The rice accompanying my meal was lukewarm and I returned it. When I got it back the server almost dumped it on the table - I wonder what we did to him? Overall ok, but really nothing to go out of the way for.

Not so great food; bad service. I've been to this restaurant twice now. Both times the service has been terrible. But the food was okay the first time so we came back. Dumb mistake. I ordered the shepherd's pie. The vegetables tasted like they came from a can and it was hot, much too hot. Like they'd put it in the microwave and nuked it for twenty minutes. May explain why it took so long to get it. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips. The fish was nothing special, and the chips were bad. B-A-D. Flavorless and tasted like frozen steak fries from a bag. But that notwithstanding, let's talk about the service. If you get a blond-haired girl, ask for another server. I'm not kidding. She is the worst waitress I have ever had, and I had her both times. I think the reviewer below had her too. She came over after ten minutes, took our drink and food orders, and then we didn't see her again. Some other guy brought us our drinks, appetizer, and entrees. She was inside (we were on the patio) the whole time talking to the guy behind the bar. I gave her a terrible tip both times and I guess she hasn't gotten the hint because people are still complaining about her. Either that or she just doesn't care. The guy running the bar is very rude and curt with you if you're not ordering drinks. The girl seating us was very nice and she went to find the waitress once when I wanted a refill on my drink and hadn't seen her in twenty minutes. The wait was terrible too. It took twenty-five minutes to get our appetizer and another half-hour to get our entrees. Pathetic, coming from a place that was barely half full. PROS: Clean (but tiny) bathrooms Cute atmosphere Nice patio area Good drink selection CONS: Bad food (tastes frozen) Terrible service Expensive for what you get Awful parking Tiny; limited seating Takes a LONG time to get your food. VERDICT: I will not be returning.

Over the years things are getting better and better. The only thing that can take the edge of visiting is the parking situation but when you get past that - I went early this time and no issue - things are great. Got to eat of the lunch menu I was that early and sampled some of the tastiest salads out there, the sweet potato fries were also the best I've had. A tasty adult beverage the left with the thought of when to go back :)

I really enjoyed the whole look and feel of this English pub. They have seating both inside and out and the indoor area feels quaint and almost homey; it's very comfortable. After debating for a while whether to get the fish n' chips, I finally decided on the chicken skewers which were very good. They came with spicy sweet potato fries which were tasty, but a bit too hot for my wussy tongue. I finished my meal with a cup of hot tea (of which they had several different flavors - I went with Earl Grey). The most important question, of course, - the one I know you're dying to ask - is whether this charming pub serves hard cider. Alas, the English (like the Irish) understand me! They serve both Strongbow and Magner's in bottles. I tip my hat to Mad Dogs and Englishmen and feel confident I'll come back again - this time to try the fish n' chips.

The Good: -Nice front patio set up -Smart looking interior -Relaxed vibe -Typical bar menu with exceptionally good taste -Friendly staff -Pups welcome (or is this a bad thing?) The Bad: -Mediocre draft selection -Tight parking The Verdict: If M.D & E were to belly up and order a drink, it would request a Snakebite, a pint of equal parts cider and guiness; nothing reckless and a bit on the posh side. Aside from the black and white UK celebrity prints lining the dining room walls, MD &E does not make an attempt to remind guests thats its an ENGLISH pub you are currently in, where many others slight to this tendency. Not a bad place to frequent for an after work nip, or a 930am nip?? Anyone??

Was pleasantly surprised to find this place on MacDilll. Wait staff was pleasant and informative. The have both indoor and outdoor seating- we sat outside. Had the sherpard's pie and mine was good - not great- but a well appreciated effort. Also they will make an effort to cater the dish to your fast so if you know how you want it for all means speak up. Definitely a place to try if you haven't and a welcome addition to the Tampa dining scene

The best part of Mad Dogs is the Boddington's on tap and the fish and chips. The hummus is also very good, and there are a number of fancier food options than you might expect. The bar used to be great but I think things have gone downhill in recent years. I also have a MAJOR problem with the dank smell inside. Outside seating area on a nice day is a good option.

Great Place if you like COCKROACHES flying onto you. I used to love this place- the food, the atmosphere & Hugo (the bartender) however, when a flying cockroach lands on not one but two people in your party it is not appetizing or even sanitary. The wait staff acted like we were bothering her when we told her about the roaches. She simply replied "we live in Florida, what are you gonna do" How about call an exterminator!!! I will never ever go back to that GROSS place. Imagine what the kitchen is like if there's flying roaches at the tables.

This has become one of my regular spots and I don't think we've ever had a bad experience here. Whether we're sitting on the patio, at the bar or inside we've always had great service and enjoyed a laid back meal. I think I've had just about everything on the menu (besides the salads) and haven't has a single thing I don't like. The prices are great and another plus is that the patio is dog friendly. Already looking forward to my next visit.

I can't comment on the food because I've never tried it. But the beers are all veddy English: thus not veddy tasty to me. I prefer some hops in my beers. They don't carry an IPA, but if they did, I would probably frequent this joint because it has a very relaxed Florida vibe. Nice patio. The chef/owner is very friendly. Mostly locals from the immediate area seem to frequent the place, and they can get quite a snootfull by the end of an evening. I think it would benefit the atmosphere to have some live music to prevent the peeps from falling asleep in the Guiness.

I love this place. Everything I've had on the menu has been fantastic. However, their burger is the best in Tampa in my opinion. Great place to grab lunch outside. I'm kind of mad that they don't do brunch anymore. The staff is pretty awesome as well.

  • Josh H.

Crappy pub grub disquised as haute. Bad Service, Bad Menu, stupid pretentious picture of the "executive chef" in front of a glass of wine trying to look like he has created art out of this dated and boring menu. They should fire all the dizzy hostesses. If they are trying to be more upscale they need to work on the staff appearence and service skills, and for god sake make the food at least taste ok. They should provide brown sauce(HP or Daddy's) to bury the flavor of this way below mediocore fare. The only good thing is the location, bar and patio. Avoid this place for food.

  • Nicole Leigh S.

For the liquor-less bar type aura this restaurant goes for it's actually surprisingly upscale and the food is fantastic. My folks and I shared a bottle of wine, my boyfriend had a few beers though it wasn't anything exotic. They have nightly specials, which are great, coupled with their menu that's both a fun read and a good selection. It's a little expensive for someone at my age and career status, but if I had the money I'm pretty sure it would be a place I would frequent fairly often.

My favorite meal of the week is Sunday brunch. We've looked all over for a great place and have found it at Mad Dogs. The patio provides a breezy spot to enjoy your coffee or mimosas, the wait staff is friendly though pretty busy. We started out coming here for dinner, which I would rate at 4 stars. Brunch Dish: Eggs Englishmen (Flat Iron Steak, Poached Eggs, and Frites topped with Stilton cheese.) Dinner Dishes: Bangers and Mash, Any Pizza.

Decent food. Nice atmosphere. Terrible service. I waited 15-20 mins for the waitress/bartender to eventually come over and ask if I needed anything. Apparently, she had time to be cordial and joke with the other customers. I received my food from a different waitress, but my waitress/bartender (actually, no one) never stopped by to see if I needed more drinks or if everything was alright. However, she did seem to return to the customers nearby in order to tend to them and make jokes; she just did not care to deal with me. The waitress/bartender threw my receipt at me twice: when I asked for it and when she returned the receipt for the signature. Interestingly enough, a couple arrived shortly before I left and she instantly provided them with menus and made an effort to be helpful. It was not too busy since she had time to talk and joke with customers and customers near me; she just did not care to talk or deal with me. If she was being discourteous because I was not spending enough money, maybe she should have been courteous and I would have stayed longer and purchased more drinks. If I was rude or offensive, I can understand the treatment, but I was not; I just sat quietly. I'm a city guy and I've visited or lived in other cities, so I am familiar with curt encounters and treatment; this was unnecessary, unpleasant, and unwarranted. The terrible service ultimately and automatically made this a 1-star rating.

Good neighborhood style pub. Can get crowded, and parking can be a pain. The food is somewhat pricey for a pub, but can be excellent if you choose carefully. I've had everything from pizza to burgers to lamb chops here, all were consistently good. The only thing that missed was a steak sandwich. Steak was overcooked, sliced too thick, and very dry. Could have just been a one time thing. Nice patio out front... good place to have a few Guinness' on a cool evening.

  • David F.

Decent beer selection, good and fast wraps and salad. Heavier fare like burgers and such as well. The roast turkey wrap was delicious, even though it had a mild curry flavor. I'm not a curry fan and it was still delicious. Definitely go with the spicy fries instead of the plain ones. Waay tastier.

Great fish n chips. Great tuna tar tar with black sticky rice. First cool night each year, Don gets the Shepard's pie (with Stilton, if he's feeling indulgent!) and we sit on the patio. Also great is the goat cheese pizza and Mad Dogs salad.

Mad Dogs is British pub meets Florida lifestyle. I love the tuna tar tar for dinner along with the crisp and fresh salad. Brunch here is great and often very empty. Get there early on weekend nights. The best part is that they are very kid friendly.
