Great Cuban Sandwich....just right! Fun to get your own drinks yet have a server take your order. Love the use of tablets for point of sale

#Delish #Delish #Delish and super affordable. Love this meal, tops any Spanish / Cuban restaurant in New Tampa. I had shredded beef stuffed green plantains 10/10 star. Then I had Ropa Vieja it was so damn tasty. I loved it I will def be coming back. Small cafe, cute ambiance. Chef was polite and asked me how my meal was. Would certainly recommend this place!!

I went to Las Palmas Cafe during their business hours, not on a holiday, and they were closed. No sign nor explanation was given as to why they were closed or if the business itself had shut down. This is not how you run a business and will not be down to give them another shot.

Most legit Cuban food in the area! Here is a quick rundown of my faves: Deviled crab and the stuffed potato are must-tries for appetizers (I'm drooling just thinking about them...). The ropa vieja, lechon asado, picadillo, and vaca frita are my top picks for lunch or dinner- super flavorful, filling, and priced right. If you have any room left, Ramses makes a killer tres leches cake, you won't be disappointed!

We were in the area and need to grab some dinner. The waitress seemed to be doing multiple tasks so she apologized for the delay. It was fine. Our Cuban bread came sliced cold with some cold butter so I was disappointed about that. We placed our order. I had the ropa vieja and it wasn't the best I ever had. It was fine but I didn't find the sauce particularly flavorful. My fiance tried the Tour of Havana and he seemed to enjoy it. My brother enjoyed his seafood dish. It did take a while for food to come out but that's fine. It's a decent option if you are craving Cuban food if I'm in the area again. Service was okay.

It is so overrated. The food was nothing spectacular. All the food I got was extremely salty and under-seasoned. The fried shrimp looked like it was store brought frozen variety. The rice was a underseasoned. The ropa vieja was also under seasoned. It was very bland and way too salty. The cafe con leche was pretty good but I definately had better. The service was very average. The lady had a very tough time explaining the menu. Especially since many of the item was in Spanish and had very limited explanation, her telling us "this is a pork dish" was not very helpful. She didn't explain and I honestly believe didn't know the flavor profiles. She also forgot the onions on the beans. And... why the tell would you offer Sangria and beer at 11am when I am with my family? The decor is best described as authentically authentic. It imitates old spanish food counters and cuba with its steel siding and faux art but it does a bad job at both. Don't get me wrong, it is okay and clean but just that. It is still worth trying if you don't want to drive down to the West Tampa Sandwich Shop.

My family went to Las Palmas Cafe for the first time last weekend and absolutely loved it! Very quaint atmosphere, soft cuban music and the food was delicious! We started with an Appetizer.... Yuca Fries, Entree... Yellow Rice and Chicken and Plantains...and for desert...Flan. The portion sizes are typical for Spanish/Cuban Food...very large! We also met Chef Ramses...and it was obvious how much he cared about his customers and checked on us personally a few times during our meal to make sure it was just right. We enjoyed it so much that tonight when I asked my family where they wanted to go....the answer was Las Palmas Cafe!

Lucky they have a good cook! My first time in this place and not impressed at all. I've never had worst service than this. Better off at the Wendy's across the street. The server, whom also seemed to be the manager or owner had an arrogant rude attitude: I guess he had a bad day and took it out on customers (consider hiring someone with people skills and stay in the back). The menu doesn't have full description of ingredients in certain items and when asked for clarification, got a snarky condescending remark. Menus were snatched out of our hands after ordering, brought out one drink and when asked for another, said this was a "self-serve" place. Confused due the contradiction, we asked him to repeat, which he sure did with yet another side of attitude and volume. They're lucky to have a good cook, who was the only person in this place who delivered. Will never go back. Consider this place if you're up for average Cuban food with a side of horrible service.

I relocated to Tampa from Miami and I have tried every restaurant in Tampa that claims to serve Cuban food. All of them were huge disappointments! Las Palmas is under new ownership - Chef Ramses is from Miami and he is an authentic Cuban from the island. His food reminds me of home cooked family meals that I get when I visit family back home in Miami. I am so glad he is in our neighborhood and is selling excellent, authentic Cuban food. I love it so much I try and visit a few times a month, so I can get my Cuban food fix. Yum!

Drove here passed Pepe's to try you guys for dinner when I was new in town around the 31st. As other reviewers stated the place was closed and we drove back to Pepe's and had great service and food. Maybe you should change your hours or stay open for business

Excellent food at a very cheap price. I had a Cuban sandwich and a stuffed potato that was very flavorful. Very friendly and attentive staff. I will definitely be coming back. Tres leches is the best dessert.

Las Palmas serves authentic Cuban food...you can taste the love in the cooking. Stuffed tostones with picadillo are a great starter and anything you get will be amazing. They also have delicious sangria!

I have been here 3 times now. The waitress always comes across as if she doesn't want to be there. She just talks through your conversation on the phone. She never really smiles. And the food is OK. I ordered the French fries and they were out. The lady suggested yucca fries. Which was fine with me. I was just sad to see that I got 5 small pieces of yucca fries for $5. The Cuban sandwich is alright.

My husband and I went here with another couple last week before seeing a movie. It's in a strip mall and I could see easily driving by but you must stop in to eat! There were a couple of other of other tables occupied when we got there and was nearly full when we left. My friend ordered the crispy beef (server rec), my husband ordered his favorite Cuban dish the steak Milanese and I had the chicken and rice with black beans (gluten free yellow rice!). Everything was so tasty and the portions were large. We also had the app yuca with cilantro sauce that was so fresh and good as well as a pitcher of sangria (fountain drinks are self serve) Writing this review makes me want to go there now for dinner! Yummm

Authentic Cuban cuisine. Very consistent. Very pleasant owners as well. I particularly enjoy the ropa vieja and the vaca frita. If you're looking for a taste of the main meat dishes, get the tour of Cuba plate.

The food is pretty good, especially the Cuban sandwich and garlic yuca. The wait time for the food was very long though. We waited 35 minutes for the food and the restaurant only had one other table with 2 customers. Wish they could speed it up to give it a 5 star.

Yuca Fries were awesome! The olive butter was a nice twist on a very boring pre-dinner bread and butter. My wife had the fish. It was very good. My chicken and yellow rice was not your traditional. It was ok. Chicken was very dry. Hard to get through. Black beans were good. Not the best I've ever had. Place was pretty good. It's no Castillos but I would def go back. * If they made chicken and yellow rice to order, I would wait 45 mins for some traditional.

So I'm in my kitchen putting the finishing touches on a mad burrito and I have an epiphany. What this Mexican sandwich really needs is some fried yucca on top. I quickly convince myself that that is the ingredient that will send this meal over the edge. I figure I have two choices. I could go to Publix, get some yucca and whip up a batch of homemade fries. This is a good option, not great as my yucca fries are hit and miss. Or, I could go to Las Palmas Cafe. It is here that the yucca fries are brilliantly crispifried on the outside and perfectly pillowfried on the inside. I decided option two was the way to go so I called in an order for pickup. And Las Palmas delivered (like not literally delivered, I'm talking more metaphorically). Of course, Las Palmas Cafe always delivers. The cafe is located in a strip mall on Bruce B. Downs right near the Wal-Mart. I find myself visiting a lot while my wife is looking for used baby stuff at Once Upon a Child. There is something about those used cribs that trigger a desire to have yucca fries. I'd love to do a full review of the menu but honestly, I just can't get passed the rice and beans and yucca fries. All three of these items consistently deliver what I am looking for. So no matter how many times I look at a crib, get hunger pangs, tell my wife I am going to Las Palmas and then pep talk myself on the way there that I am going to try something different this time, once I open the door the thought of rice, beans and yucca just cancel that pep right out. I'm glad that I've discovered this little gem of a cafe. Before coming here, when I wanted Cuban food I might have to wait a week or two until I can find the time to drive all the way down to La Teresita. Now, if I want it, I get it about ten minutes later. About the only thing I don't like at Las Palmas is the dipping sauce that accompanies the yucca fries. I much prefer the La Teresita version. But that's what they make take out for. I just bring those yucca fries home and dress them up however I want.

We had the Cuban sandwich and yellow rice and black beans. Both were delicious! Husband and wife own and run the cafe and they were most hospitable. Located off a busy highway in a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. Best Sangria I've ever had - not too fruity and not too strong. Served in a Mason jar-like mug with cinnamon sugar frozen on the rim. YUM! Their location hurts their business which is too bad because the food is well worth the trip!

200th review!! My 200th deserves a 5 star :) Las Palmas is tucked away in a strip center off of Bruce B Downs. They say this area is the "new" Tampa. Our last night in town and wanted cuban of course. Las Palmas serves authentic cuban cusine. It is seat yourself. They have waiter service, but you get your own drinks. For apps, we got empanadas and deviled crab. The empanada was awesome. It was stuffed with their picadillo. The deviled crab was good, but I could have ate another empanada! My husband got the roasted pork, kids shared the midnight cuban sandwich, and I got the palomilla steak. The roasted pork was delicious! Moist and full of flavor. I loved the midnight cuban sandwich. My palomilla steak was great. You can get it breaded or grilled. I got it grilled. I got yellow rice, black beans, and plantains. I enjoyed my meal here! Definitely would be back if I am ever in town =)

Las Palmas Cafe is a hidden Cuban gem located in a New Tampa strip mall. The parking lot is big so there should never be a problem finding a space. Upon entering -- we were greeted by a friendly lady who told us to have a sit anywhere. She promptly brought us menus and asked if this was our first visit. We explained this was our first visit and she offered suggestions on what we should try and brought us a sample of the roasted pork Cuban style and a basket of warm Cuban bread. The pork was delicious -- marinated in sour orange, garlic and herbs -- it was so tender we cut it with a fork. My husband opted for the Full Cuban Sandwich (they also offer a half). Yummy pressed ham, shredded pork, Swiss cheese, mustard and pickles. It was good. My daughter chose the Shrimp in garlic sauce. The shrimp was cooked in garlic, wine and lemon juice. This meal comes with two sides of your choice: yellow or white rice, cup of soup (black, white, chickpea or chicken tortilla), fried sweet plantains "Maduros", fried green plantains "Tostones", boiled yuca, green beans, french fries, yuca fried sticks or salad. My daughter chose the yellow rice and fried sweet plantains. The plantains were so good. I was craving black beans so ordered a bowl of the black beans and yellow rice. They threw some fresh cut onions on top -- I had never tried this before and it gave the beans a much better bite. Las Palmas offers a variety of appetizers, soups/salads, entrees, sandwiches and daily lunch specials served Monday through Friday from 11 am to 3 pm. Check out their array of desserts. I wanted to try the flan with grated coconut but was way too full. As far as beverages they have your usual fountain sodas but also have a homemade award winning sangria that is available by the glass or carafe -- wine, beer, and even a Cuban espresso. Check out their website laspalmascafe.net for more information -- they also do catering for parties and special events. There are too many items we want to try! Will be going back again soon this place is muy bien!

Excellent food, very flavorful! My husband had the Tour of Havana, which he thoroughly enjoyed! I had the Vaca Frita which was excellent as well. The house Sangria was awesome. Both deserts were flavorful but not too sweet. We will definitely be back!

Awesome CUBAN food. This is one of the restaurants in our 'work' circuit and we go every couple weeks. The sandwiches and empanadas are great. Others in the group like the pulled pork plate. Prices are fair. Service is good (drinks are do-it-yourself, so you never run out} and the chef gets the food out to you pretty quickly. Like this so much, will be adding it to the dinner rotation. Note that the restaurant is closed on Sunday.

Finally found my most favorite cuban place and I'm happy to say it is close to home. This was my first time here. Can't believe I just tried it now when I have lived closer to this place before I moved. What caught my attention when I checked out the menu was the cowich. I have no idea why that's the name, but I dont care because it is the best. It sounded like a jibarito. It was two tostones & in the middle was shredded crispy beef with cilantro cream sauce lettuce, cucumbers tomatoes. This is actually 3 in an order and they r so big and filling. This is the best and all must try this. I also picked out the roast pork w yellow rice and yucca fries. It was amazing. My second most favorite after the cowich is the yucca fries. It would have been served w cilantro cream sauce. It didn't come w our pick up order but we had plenty from the cowich. If you want to order for take out, make sure to call ahead. Since I just stopped in, I waited about 20 min. It was worth it and I will be back. This is a small restaurant in the pebble creek plaza in new tampa. It's small and nicely decorated. Next to it is the full circle Chicago pizza place and the Japanese place Kobe, I think, is also in the same plaza. You might not even know it's there based on the side and color of the sign. Make sure to check this place out, can't believe it took me so long, but i will be back.

Love this little gem tucked into a strip math in New Tampa off Bruce B Downs. I knew I had been here before with friends from work, but it all came back to me when I took a bite of the pork and rice. Yummm. Authentic Cuban food for sure! Prices are reasonable, portions are more than enough, and it's a nice quiet, friendly small business. We were able to grab lunch on a Saturday, dine in, and finish in 30 minutes (probably less). They tout the area's best Cuban, although we haven't tried it. But we'll definitely be back!

Yowza! My friends and I went to dinner here last night based on other Yelp recommendations. All I can say is that these reviewers know what they are talking about. The food & service were terrific. When we arrived at 5:30 pm on a rainy night the place was empty and I worried a little bit. Obviously we had our choice of tables and the guy that came to take our order was the chef. He chatted with us a bit and described all the things on the menu we were not sure of. After taking our orders he turned us over to the regular wait staff and he headed to the kitchen to make our dinners. While we waited for the food, we were served small slices of fresh Cuban bread with the best garlic butter. It had little bits of olive in it and the subtle olive taste was unexpectedly good. It would have been really easy to fill up on the bread & butter, but we controlled ourselves. Two of us had the Havana Sampler Platter which included Cuban Hash, Shredded Pork and Ropa Vieja, Yellow Rice & Plantains. Everything was very good, but the Ropa Vieja was sublime. Another friend had the shredded pork only and another had the cuban chicken & rice. They both loved their meal too, but they both snitched some the Ropa Vieja and then wanted to snitch even more. lol At the end of the meal we selected 4 of the desserts to split. We tried the Tres Leches Cake (awesome), the Flan w/ Coconut (really good), the Creme Brulle and the Rice Pudding. These last two desserts were okay, but seemed to be missing that little something extra to make them really yummy. None of us had an alcoholic beverage, but the homemade Sangria looked awesome and the folks at the next table told us it was a favorite of theirs. The prices are very reasonable. I went home stuffed, and still brought a little bit home. With the meal, dessert and tip I spent about $18. The ambiance is pretty basic. Classic square 4-top table with basic chairs and the cold non-alcoholic beverages are self-serve. Our only real disappointment was that we all live over an hour away from this little jewel of a restaurant.

Recently Chef Ramses asked my husband and me if we had ever tasted his Red Beans and Rice, we hadn't. The Chef brought us a small sample and we asked to be informed the next time it's on the menu. It's a special. Today was the day. I would really like to see it on the menu. Sure I understand that it wouldn't be "as" special if it was offered everyday, but i think that i can live with that

Very good cuban food. Palomilla steak was delicious. As was the yellow rice and black beans.

This is a small restaurant in a strip mall. Table service and to go available. Tables are metal sets of two or four closely arranged. We had a corner in back which we thought would be nice. Unfortunately a family with a loud toddler and hungry infant thought the table next to us two would be perfect. So ambiance is not why you go here. You go for the food. I ordered the pork masitas that were pure chunks of meat beautifully topped with garlic and sautéed onions. Excellent!! The breaded Palomilla steak was lightly breaded, greaseless and full of flavor. The rice and black beans were fresh and good. The Cuban bread was fresh but cold. Never a good thing. Servers are bilingual as is the menu. This is a no frills delicious and extremely reasonably priced Cuban food. Toast the bread and expand so we don't feel so crammed and we will be back.

Great authentic Cuban food. I'm fortunate to live nearby. The ropa vieja, is so tasty and moist! Even the white rice tastes great. The portions are generous and the prices are too low for what you get, its a great bargain. The beef empanadas are out of sight, I love them. But that's the beauty of the place, authentic good food and great prices. I highly recommend it.

We've been here twice in the last three weeks and the food has been incredible both times! The Vaca Frita (shredded flank steak, onions, garlic) is AWESOME! My mouth is watering again just thinking about it. It's so beefy and flavorful. Highly recommended. Our family of five has enjoyed a little bit of everything - chicken and yellow rice, falling-off-the-bone tender and super flavorful. Roasted pork - juicy and savory. Shredded beef - a little sweeter than the Vaca Frita but fork-tender and juicy. And the sides are perfect compliments. Try the tostones - flattened fried green plantains, kind of like a fried potato pancake but crispier. And the fried sweet plantains are excellent - not like the frozen kind from the supermarket! The setting is very casual and family friendly. The sodas are self-serve and refills are free. The prices are also very reasonable for a sit-down dinner of this quality. I can't wait to try them for lunch. Highly recommended!

Truly a hidden Gem, Everything I've tried has been soo delicious! I'm lucky to live close but if I had to, I'd drive across town just for dinner here. I wish they opened up earlier than 11am because they also have the best espresso and cafe con leche. Chef Ramses and all his employees are friendly and attentive. They always play great music. This is the go to place when I have family and friends visiting.

An unassuming little place in one of the oldest strip centers in the area and one of my family's favorite dining spots, one of the few places along Bruce B Downs really worth repeating. I was a little concerned when ownership changed, but the food is just as good if not better now than it was before. I think I've tried pretty much everything on the menu, and you can't go wrong with any of it. The stuffed potatoes are excellent as an appetizer. We usually split one between 2 of us so we don't fill up too soon. The homemade sangria is the best I've had. It's hard to pick a favorite among the rest. Try it all. You won't be disappointed here.

Friends who are regulars here invited us to eat Friday night. Three of us had the Vaca Frita "Crispy Fried Beef" and one had the Tour of Havana. We were all very pleased with the food. The Vaca Frita was like a beef version of pork carnitas, cooked in a mojo/garlic sauce with ample onions. It was juicy with flavorful crispy bits with a robust garlic flavor. We had both the Plantains and the Tostones. I am a plantain lover and am so tired of soggy, burnt or tough "maduros", but here they were sweet perfection. But the real killer was the Tostones, large fried chips of plantains, the best I have ever eaten! I actually exclaimed Wow! after the first bite. I could have eaten just them for dinner, they were that good! Rice and beans were fine. Meal was served with bread and spread with green olives which I love! We were stuffed, but Ramses, the owner suggested we try the Tres Leches cake for desert. Oh My!!!! It was So Rich! The Leche sauce so aswesome and served with raspberry drizzled sauce on the plate. He served us servings that were more than enough for two people to share and they were out of this world DELICIOUS!!! BTW, we took extra Tres Leches to-go, to share with friends. They were that GOOD!!!! We did take home left over meat for lunch the next day because serving were large for the women. Them men managed to devour it all. Chef Ramses was a very attentive waiter checking on us several times to make sure the food was good. I will definitely come back. I want to try other entres, but I will always get tostones and Tres Leches.

Decent little place. Good food and average prices. It's not a place I run to regularly but I did like the meal and it was good. We will go from time to time and always satisfied but like I said not something that keeps me running back.

Excellent food for an excellent price! My 2 year old daughter loves the roasted chicken (sorry forget the name of it on the menu) I love the pressed cuban - even though I have had better it is still very good! Their creamy salad dressing is by far the best! And my wife loves their fish as well as their soups! Very reasonable prices! Sometimes we"ll go here twice in a week because of the cost savings and takeout!!!

Great and quiet little restaurant. If it wasn't for yelp I would have never even known the place was there. Wife and I had pressed cubans and deviled crab. Really good. Prices were good too. Only down side was a little skimpy with the pork on the cuban.

Delicious! Tried it out tonight based on the recommenders so far. Started with creamy herb dressing on mixed salad and a basket of bread (with seasoned butter). Followed by the pork chunks special, yellow rice and black beans. Every bite was fabulous!! Add the family restaurant ambience with really attentive, friendly and efficient service and you have a real winner. Las Palmas is an excellent restaurant and not to be missed!

Love this place. Great food and even better prices. Favorites are the cuban sandwich and the Las Palmas salad with the creamy dressing (a full mean by itself!). Have been coming here for years. Even though we've moved away from the area, we keep making the drive back for some Las Palmas!

This is my favorite resturant in the New Tampa area. Food and service are exceptional, as well as, the value. The lechon-asado (Cuban style roast pork) is a must. The pressed cuban is also very good. Order both with a side of black beans and yellow rice.

  • Matthew H.

Great sandwiches, even better soup. This place is a solid choice for food anywhere in new Tampa. They could serve only soup and i would still eat here, but they raise the stakes with their sandwiches. The cuban is a safe choice because it has all the ingredients of a quality Tampa style cuban; great bread, succulent ham and a mayo mustard mixture in the perfect amount, BUT if you want a real treat try the mojo pork sandwich. Its awesome. There is always one of the owners at the cafe working behind the counter, and they are always so nice. Dine here, you will not regret it.

Masas de Puerco Fritas -- delicious, pork was tender, but still crispy. Good onion and garlic flavor. Portion Size -- meh, not the greatest, not bad, just average. Prices -- Too high. Not many options for good Cuban in this part of town and the prices show they are aware.

This is a hidden gem in New Tampa. We went there twice in one week because it was so good. The first visit we split the Ramses Monster Cuban, a warm pressed 13" Cuban sandwich with ham and pork. We also had the garlic shrimp appetizer and the Tres Leches cake for dessert. The pork was so good that on our next visit my husband ordered the pork entree and said it was great. The Tres Leches cake is truly the best I have ever tasted. On the second visit I order the shrimp in garlic sauce with fried plantains. The plantains were crisp and sweet and hot - really heavenly. The owner, Chef Ramses, was very friendly and you can tell he really cares about the food and his customers.

5 Stars***** I've been in New Tampa for 10 years and it wasn't until Chef Ramses and his lovely wife Ana took over that finally real Cuban cuisine is here. Not only is the food incredible but the atmosphere is inviting with tropical music and personalized attention by Ramses and all. He is hilarious and attentive. Ana is just so sweet. I grew up eating Cuban food in Miami and they encompass true Cuban food and then some. I suggest you go there everyday for 3 weeks a try every single thing on their menu. I can't tell you what is the best thing on the menu since it is all exquisite. Its Sunday and they are closed, Dang it!! I can't wait until tomorrow.

In this area, this is my go-to place for Cuban sandwiches. Get everything on it, order another to go, and enjoy. With so many variations of the Cuban sandwich, everyone has their particular favorite. Some are more 'Americanized' than others while some have strayed into sacrilege by really dumbing down the sandwich. You won't get that here. Every Cuban sandwich has every important component including a sprinkle of love. If you crave Cuban sandwiches like I do on a weekly basis, this is worth a half hour drive on the highway.

I love this place. Great food, nice people who run it, great prices and the best sangria. My favorites are the ropa vieja sandwich and the tortilla soup. The empanadas are also very flavorful. I tried the sangria for the first time today, it was wonderful! Definitely not a fancy place, I wish it had more comfortable seating so I could hang out longer. Definitely my favorite lunch place.

Las Palmas Cafe is an excellent family owned restaurant perfect for families or nights out with friends. The portions are rather large but you would be surprised by the amount you can eat when the food is this good.

Every time I go to Tampa this is a MUST GO for me! Love this place. The food is incredible. Where do I begin... from their Ropa Vieja to their Sandwiches, I can go on and on. Another great attribute of this place is the owner. You can tell that the guy loves his restaurant and wants to make all his patrons happy. If there was a 10 star rating, this little gem would get it. Do yourself a favor and stop in whenever you can.

Went here with my family when I was in town visiting. I can never get enough Cuban food when I'm home. This place was awesome! The service was great and very friendly. The chef even sent out a few things for us to try--on the house. The Cuban sandwiches were to die for and so was the rest of the food. We ordered more to go for later after we were done. Do yourself a favor and try this place!

If you are in the mood for a cuban sub, this place is for you! So far, I know this cuban sub is the BEST in the area! The restaurant is small. It was kinda of dark in the restaurant. It seems to be a family owned restaurant! The cheap price for an EXCELLENT cuban's sub!! Love that place!

Love love love this food. My husband and I ordered the Cuban sandwich and steak sandwich to split. It was beyond amazing the steak sandwich is addicting and has so much flavor! We are Hispanic so our expectations are high this place was awesome! We had the tres leche and was brought out by the owner who also is the chef! He told us no one in Tampa can touch his tres leche and he wasn't kidding! You can tell he really cares about his business! Will be our new Cuban place!

This is one of the hidden gems of this area. They have great Cuban sandwiches and if you get a chance, try the tortilla soup. It is truly great. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great local food.

WOOHOOO!!! Real Cuban food in New Tampa! Now this is truly a taste of home for me as I'm originally from Miami and my family and I transplanted to Tampa last year. The food here is amazing! I've been disappointed several times at other restaurants who claim to serve "Cuban" food. The other places food is flavorless and they just over salt EVERYTHING to mask the fact that they have no idea what they are doing. But from the moment you walk in the door at Las Palmas Cafe you will notice a huge difference. The owners are friendly and you can feel that they take pride in their food and the service they provide. I've eaten there several times and the food here has been nothing short of amazing! The food has so much flavor, there is no need to add salt or any of the hot sauce like most of the patrons did before this new owner took over. He has made it a point to truly bring Cuban cooking and all the amazing flavors to New Tampa. You will never leave here disappointed or hungry as the servings are beyond generous! Make sure to ask for a doggie bag because you will not want to leave a morsel of that deliciousness on their plates. Do yourself a favor and HURRY to Las Palmas Cafe and experience TRUE Cuban cooking where the food speaks for itself.

Not sure about Las Palmas anymore since new ownership took over in August 2013. This was my favorite place for Cuban sandwiches, but on my first visit last October I called ahead for two pressed Cubans all the way (first time since new owners). The lady had a hard time understanding me and vice versa. She told me it would be 10 minutes. I show up 15 minutes later and they had not started the sandwiches, no big deal it was rather busy. What turned me off was the lady who made my sandwiches was also the only waitress and I watched her take money from two tables then proceed to make my sandwiches without washing her hands. I didn't complain and figured I would be handing her money too and since it was under new ownership a little chaos might be expected. I visited a 2nd time and had the pulled pork, yellow rice and black beans. Had to wait a bit, the food was very tasty though a few dollars more than La Cubanita in the Publix center. I figured I would try Las Palmas one more time to order Cubans, walked in and only a few tables were occupied. The owner comes to the front and doesn't say hi, just says "will this be for here or to go"? I said for here and before I could give my order he slides a menu across the counter and says " here is a menu" and walks away to the kitchen with no other staff around. Being the 2nd time now that I was turned off by this place, I walked out and headed to La Cubanita where they always greet you with a friendly hello.

This place is excellent!! Amazing food for a great price!! Soups and sides are delish, especially garbanzo bean soup and black beans and rice. Their signature creamy herb salad dressing is to die for!! My other favorites are pressed Cuban sandwich, the fried fish, roasted chicken and pork dishes. Good portions, definitely worth the money. And as mentioned before, the prices are great! Half sandwich and side salad or soup is 5.95$, can't beat that!!
