Mediocre food, I believe Taco Bell may be more authentic! Who serves their customers dead cilantro!!!! That says a lot of the care they take in their food when the garnish is even fresh!!!! 99 cent cilantro?!!! Really?!!! Won't be returning!!! Don't waste your time!!!

Not great, but not bad either. For $5, this isn't a bad option at lunch. My husband went here last week with some co-workers and told me we had to try it. I met him for lunch one day and was not as enamored as he was. Inside its pretty dreary and dark. It's laid out oddly. Service was great. It was a single server working the entire room, but she was on top of things. The chips and salsa were ok-nothing great but not horrible. My lunch special was cheap and quick, but not great. The enchilada sauce was a little bland and there was no cheese melted on top. The taco was pretty decent though. Would I go back? Sure but I would not go running and I would try something different.

Pleasantly Surprised!! I stopped in for lunch with a friend and enjoyed a meal that was amazing. The Spicy Salsa was very good!!! I had chicken chipoltle which was recommended by the waiter. I will be back, enough said!!!!!!!!!!!

I just stopped here because had time to kill waiting for our realtor as we're closing on a home just blocks away. Me and wife wanted chips and salsa (paying of course) and drinks. I could not possibly get a waiter with a worse attitude. While he may have thought we were being cheap bastards, he may just turned away a repeat customer. Don't judge a book by its cover and treat everyone as you would like to be treated. Chips and salsa get an A, waiter gets a C.

Service = Friendly Queso = outstanding Chips = Warm and crunchy Salsa = Flavorful and mild Rice & Beans = Excellent Guac salad = Refreshing and delicious Tortillas = Hot and fresh Carne asada = Porqueria! Too thick and tough to even cut. No grilled/flame flavor. Very bad. Probably won't go back. The steak was just too disappointing. I can't get over it even though everything else was very good.

Why 3 stars? Because it tasted better initially before the grease kicked in. --- --- --- This is more of a 3.5 star destination, but it's a shame...that damn grease will get ya every time. My friend was about 25 minutes late, because he likes to get lost, despite having an iPhone and the address to the location. That's what he does. While I was waiting on him, I devoured a basket of chips and queso, and that queso was amazing. When doofus finally arrived, it was time to go to town on some steak quesadillas. Upon initial entry into my mouth (giggity) I felt like I was finally back in Houston. After long last, I was finally reunited with the Mexcian food that I so sorely miss from Texas! However, as the meal went on, I began to feel like I had been drinking from a bucket of grease, and my stomach wasn't terribly pleased about it. I brought home leftovers, but offered them to someone else because I couldn't handle anymore of that action. If La Hacienda makes some slight adjustments, I feel like they could be the best Mexican food in town. For now, Miguel's still holds that crown.

Food was great, margaritas were great, wait staff was a little slow with the chips and drinks but they made up for it by checking on us throughout our visit. Definitely making it our local Mexican stop.

All I can say is check this place out especially if you are used to Cali Mexican food.

Got three meals to go; all were messed up. Wrong meat (I chose chicken, got ground beef) tacos fell apart and were soggy, enchiladas sucked. One positive thing- the chips and salsa are amazing. Save your cash and spend it elsewhere.

I give it 5 stars because everything one could ask for is provided. Authentic Mexican dishes? check. Even ones not on the menu? check. Dos XX? You know it. Glasses you could fall in? Believe it! I have not been to another Mexican Restaurant in Tampa because I just cannot find a reason to leave this one. I believe the happy hour is til 8:00 p.m. and you get 2 for 1 margaritas, however, they are not the top shelf ones which I definitely prefer. Enjoy my friends

Do you like hole in the wall, greasy, dive-y Mexican? If so, this is your place. I was initially not certain about La Hacienda. Until I brought up the place with a coworker who lives near me who goes there at least once a month. His wife is from Austin, and she feels this is the best Mexican in Tampa. You enter the seemingly little restaurant in the corner only to find out its huge. Granted I've never seen it packed, but it could definitely fit a lot of hungry people. You are promptly seated at a booth that is way too high for comfort, place your order and by the time you start with the chips and salsa, you're already served. But before then, there is the menu. Actually I'm a bit upset I don't get to try this place as lunch because their lunch combos are great. But that isn't to say their dinner combos are lacking - far from it. There are 30 meat dinner combos and a number of vegetarian combos. This trip I got #11 which was a taco, a burrito, and an enchilada. My friend got #15 which was a taco, chalupa, tostada, and white nacho cheese & beef. My girlfriend got Vegetarian combo #1 - bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and rice. The chips are great, and the salsa has a bit of heat to it, which is excellent. And again, you get your food really quickly. The taco is excellent and the cheese melts in your mouth goodness. The burrito is wet, but it and the enchilada were excellent. It was all really filling. I also ordered a tamale because I love them. This wasn't the best tamale in Tampa, but as I was pretty much full and had a second basket of chips, I decided to combine them for nachos the next day. Much better. Now they do have a full menu, and it sounds really good, but its hard to turn up combination plates that have 3 or more big things. Also the "side menu" has anything else you could want. The three of us came out just over $30 with tip, so to sum it up: very cheap, very greasy, very good.

My second time back, and I am just regretting not leaving it as a one hit quit. I ordered the steak asada burrito for lunch. The steak was at least lightly seasoned, but was beyond tough and chewy, with plenty of gristle to boot. When I get a burrito, I think of meat, maybe some pico, lettuce, rice, or something else in there. Not here. It was just steak inside, which if it was good wouldn't be a complaint, but in this case was a direct miss. One bonus was the queso on top of the burrito, which wasn't great, but in comparison with everything else was a shining star. The rice and beans which came out colder than the plate they were on were as flavorless as they were cold. The chips and salsa keep them from being one star, as they were pretty good, but I was so hungry when I walked in my napkin probably would have tasted good. I am pretty low maintenance at places like this, so service was what I expected- he stopped by once to take my order, once when I was almost done to see if I need anything, and one last time to drop the check.

It's not fancy, the food could use a little imagination & the service is a little slow, but the chips were hot and not oily, the food was fresh, hot and cooked right and it's cheep. La Hacienda is good value Mexican and that's OK in my book.,

UPDATE: I came back. Twice. And both times I had a horrible experience. When I initially wrote my review, it was solely based on the food, as I had ordered takeout. The next time I went, I waited at the front for literally 10 minutes and no one even greeted me. Mind you- the place was NOT busy at all. Guess they just didn't want my money. The second time I went, they were pretty busy- but not packed. I noticed they had quite a few people waiting to be seated so I just decided to get takeout to avoid the wait. Bad idea. It took 45 minutes for me to get TAKEOUT. Mean while, others were being seated and already had their food. I did not get one apology from the staff or even "here, have a seat at the bar while you wait". I asked for one of the staff to check on our order, he just told me "we're really busy", walked away, and started talking with one of his coworkers. Finally, just as I was asking for a refund so I could go elsewhere, my food magically appears. I grab my bag and hightail it out of that disaster zone. And then... yes, AND THEN, I get home, open my bag, and the orders are messed up. No tortillas for the fajitas, I ordered (and paid for) two beef enchiladas, I got one... and it was chicken. Needless to say, I will never, ever set foot in this establishment again.

Do you think La Hacienda would mind if I listed them as my in case of emergency contact? I mean, we're practically cohabitating at this point. Having grown up in Texas, I consider myself somewhat of a Mexican food snob. I know what I like, I know what's legit Tex-Mex. It is what it is. Upon moving here, I tasked the boy with finding me "authentic Tex-Mex." I didn't care how far away it was or how much it was going to cost, simply put: this girl needs a weekly salsa fix. Well, we were incredibly lucky to find La Hacienda and double fortunate in that's it's maybe a mile or two from our house. Needless to say, we're regulars. The food is unbelievable! I have very high standards for Tex-Mex. My usual judgment revolves around: salsa, rice. If a place can knock those two out of the park, we're in business. I'd definitely recommend any of their dinner combos. Plus, those are only around $8 a plate which is unbeatable. I've also tried their vegetarian plates...let's face it, all I really want out of life is for society to make it acceptable for me to eat refried beans every day and have that not be weird. La Hacienda's salsa truly sets it apart. They bring a carafe to your table. No lie. AND...they bring each member of your party their own bowl in which to pour salsa contents from said carafe. It's genius! My own personal salsa bowl! That alone adds a star here.

It's good service, but too greasy. I don't like much their carne asada, I'm not sure if I want to go there again, well may be for the chicken soup. That one is very good!!

Came here during a quick lunch with friend. The best food was the chips at the beginning. Ordered speedy gonzales and it was disappointing. The food was pretty bland and didn't seem like it prepared right. The rice didn't seem to have any flavor and the taco kind of reminds me of taco bell. Service was horrible, the waiter we had looked and acted like he is in a gang, from the way he spoke, the way he walked and carried himself. He was more concerned about flirting with couple ladies than actually serving. Service was horrible. Chances are I won't be coming back.

Last night I ate next door at Sushi Hyashi, and promised my wife I'd bring her here. She likes Mexican food almost as much as I like hummus. However, after reading some of the reviews, I started to doubt my choice. We could go to Miguel's. Or Vallartas. Or even Taco Bell judging by some reviews. There is a Yelp badge you can earn for going to places with low ratings. Lets do this! This is a hole in the wall place stuck in a corner of a semi abandoned strip mall. That should have been my first clue. It was my third or fourth actually. The windows are covered with graphics and you can't see inside. On one window, you can see the word "delicioso". Oh well, if it says "delicious" on the front window, and in Spanish no less, then it must be so, right? First thing that struck me was how big the place seemed inside given the small entrance. Reminded me of Dr. Who's telephone booth. The motif is very dark with dark wood wall panels and tables. This place must be a bear to decorate for Cinco de Mayo. Our server was prompt and friendly. Brought over a small carafe of very delicious salsa with two small his and hers plates. I'm already liking this place. A lot. We ordered a side of refried beans without the cheese topping (having learned our lesson at Estelas). I prefer to taste the beans. The beans were a bit bland, but truth be told they tasted like... beans. Unless you load them up with spices beans don't really make a strong statement by themselves, and I prefer them that way. We put some yummy salsa on top of the beans and this made for an outstanding appetizer. The menu is huge. There are so many choices, it's dizzying. Being my first time, I decided to go for something safe, like fajitas or a quesadilla. Going down the list I saw "Quesadilla Hacienda". It's always a good sign when the plate has the restaurant's name. Besides, with a description that starts off with "a grilled super big flour tortilla..." you can't go wrong. The quesadilla was outstanding! It had grilled steak, chicken and shrimp. They were very well seasoned and cooked, very flavorful. I'd even say a bit salty, given my palate has been gringo-ized. It was nice to see bold, aggressive seasoning. My wife has a chicken taco and 1/3 of my quesadilla. She also gave it her seal of approval. Sold! Service was very good. Our waiter was busy with other tables but what seemed like a manager checked up on us repeatedly, got us refills, and even brought our food out. I'll give this place 4 stars, with the 5th one reserved for when I try the carnitas. Carnitas are my favorite Mexican dish, and if they are anywhere near as good as my quesadilla, the 5th star is all but assured. This means I have to come back tomorrow. Sigh. The sacrifices one must make in the name of culinary review science...

Absolutely the best Mexican food I have found in Tampa. Their service is super fast and friendly. The salsa is ridiculously good and their food is delicious. Oh and I made a real good decision and ordered the fried ice cream for dessert which was fantastic. I have been back a couple of times now to make sure this isn't an anomaly and I would confidently recommend La Hacienda!

Took me an entire year living in Tampa and dozens of attempts to even find edible Mexican food...not to mention GOOD Mexican...but I'm thankful that I finally found this place. Fresh flavorful salsa and non-greasy chips. Try the potato burrito, it's awesome!

La Hacienda was a co-worker's choice for lunch and while I'm always up for Mexican food, I wish I had just stayed at my desk and ordered a sandwich. Our server was very nice and attentive. The decor is outdated, but it was very clean, especially the bathrooms. I ordered the chicken taco salad lunch special. It was between average and below-average. The chicken itself was stringy and old, swimming in a brothy sauce spotted with mushy, almost unrecognizable peppers and onions. The beans were bland and runny. The guacamole was surprisingly tasty though, as was the salsa, cheese, and chips. The tortilla salad bowl was nice and crispy though, with not too much grease. I'll probably try La Hacienda again in the future but probably not too soon and I'll definitely avoid the chicken. My friend's meals were equally as disappointing. My one friend ordered the pork tamales which were pathetically lacking in filling and were clearly leftover from the day or two before. All in all if you're looking for fresh Mexican, this is not the place to go.

Always fantastic. Food is amazing and the service is great. I always sit at the bar and they remember me every time.

I really like this place. I thought the white queso was the best I've had here. My BF got fajitas and they were awesome! We ate them seriously, for 3 days afterwards. I get enchiladas and they were really good. Two for one margaritas. Service could have been faster, but nothing that will keep me away. They had a Mariachi band too. It's was fun.

This is possibly the worst mexican restaurant in Tampa. Taco Bell is 10 notches better than this. There tacos are worse than Mema's. Its says its family owned and operated. It must be owned by some gringos because this is on par with taco night at a caucasian family household. I wouldnt feed this stuff to my dogs. So...the food?!? Lets see, the refried beans are like smashed paste. Hard shell tacos are soooo generic. Soft tacos arent even corn tortillas. Enchilada and burrito are the same shit. The ground beef in the burrito is possible the futhest thing from authentic mexican food. It sucks that I had to write this review, but I wouldnt be as upset if they advertised it as generic/americanized mexican food. They make it seem like its the real deal from Mexico and its family owned and operated.

Been here many times as it's close to where we live. The food is actually fairly good but the service is a joke. Most of the staff really doesn't understand english and that's a problem unless of course you can speak spanish. If you ask for anything even slightly different than the way they normally do it, you can bet they won't get it right, because they don't understand what you want! Also, the posted hours mean nothing as they just close up when they feel like it. Can they charge a little more and get a staff that understands english?

Crappy chicken fajitas. Good salsa Chips & queso. Way better Mexican in Tampa. Try Chihuahua Mexican Grill on S. MacDill.

Not the worst Mexican I've ever had, but at least 1/2 a step down from Vallartas. Definitely Americanized Mexican. The salsa and guacamole are very good. Carne asada tacos were ok. Meat was gristly and the pico de gallo and "sauce" they were served with were not very flavorful. I prefer authentic tacos with onions and cilantro. Ambience is very hole-in-the-wall with dark wood paneling everywhere. A place to go for illicit trysts I imagine.

Ok ... its mexican. What do you expect. Its the same 7 ingredients made 65 different ways. Its cheap its fast and the dos equis is cold. I only gave it 4 stars as there was only 1 other review and they game it 1 star and a 1 star rating is unfair. I eat here often and it consistent. Give it a try.

Ok let's start with the good things. My family and I went for dinner. The restaurant was clean. The decor could use some updating. The chips and salsa that they serve was tasty. The Pico de Gallo that they have for an appetizer had awesome flavor with a little bit of heat to it. The prices are very reasonable and you get large portions for the price. The waitress that we had was excellent. She was on top of things. Ok now for the bad. The food...the most important thing had a lot to be desired. I ordered the Burrito Loco and it was huge. I got the chicken and the chicken was very dry and some pieces tasted like it had some seasoning while the other pieces did not. My burrito was cold. I know it had some items that might bring down the temperature like sour cream and lettuce but it should not bring down the temperature to the point that it felt like everything just came out of the fridge. The presentation was not good. It was just a folded over tortilla not the tucked in burrito that I am used to having. There were huge chunks of lettuce which gave it a weird texture (I am used to shredded cabbage in burritos). The tortilla that it was wrapped in had a nasty pasty texture and it tasted funny. Needless to say that I only made it less than a quarter of the way thru it. My husband ordered the Three Amigos platter. The steak was seasoned well but it was like chewing leather. He said that the chicken was not seasoned at all. He liked the re-fried beans and rice. He also took the guacamole from my burrito and said that it was the best he had in a long time. My kids all had burritos too and they said they like theirs but my daughter said that her re-fried beans were thick as paste and tasted like it. I tend to agree with that. I have had much better Mexican food in Tampa. If you want some really good Mexican food I would strongly suggest the Taco Bus on E. Hillsborough. The food there is very tasty and you get large portions for reasonable prices. The Taco Bus food runs circles around this place. This was my one and only visit to the La Hacienda.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
