Great food, terrible parking. As long as you can get into a spot, it is worth going in. Prices are very reasonable. Menu isn't super diverse (10 or so items on a given day) and several items change day to day (probably half), so it's a bit tricky to know what you want ahead. Ropa vieja is great.

Good Cuban food, fast. If you can get over the scary and cramped parking lot, this is a great place to get a fast lunch. La Bamba serves cafeteria style, so if you're wiling to eat what they are serving, you can have your food, pay and be seated within 5 minutes. There's a little longer wait if you want a sandwich or something else made to order. The food is solid. I had the roast pork, which was well seasoned and very tender. There was a decent amount of fat, so probably a quarter of the meat served was inedible (to me). I also had the moro, which was fine, and the plantains, and those were awesome. My lunch was only $6.50, and a large soda is $1 more. I cannot imagine a more affordable meal in the Westshore area.

Found this little place near my work, on the recommendations of coworkers. The food was exceptional and friendly people. I had ropa vieja and black beans with yellow rice. Everything tasted amazing, the portions are huge, and it's was like $7 and change for the entree. Do yourself a favor and go stuff your belly.

Really good food, really fast service, and awesome pricing for the amount and quality of food you receive. Cafeteria style place. Grab a tray, and get to choosing the days' specials. I went half and half, ropa veijo and pork. I chose black beans and rice for my sides. There were three of us, and the total bill was only $25. My pork was great, my ropa veijo was great, and the black beans and rice were solid. No one in our party had any complaints. This place is a solid four, but I won't blame anyone for giving them a five.

First time customer. Ordered the pork with beans/rice and plantains - Awesome. All for $8.00. Which in the Westshore area is a steal for lunch. Will definitely go back for lunch and possbily dinner. Just wish their drive thru was "slightly" larger :)

Great food if you can park your car! Went for the first time on a recommendation. It was cafeteria style with several selections to choose from. The sandwich making area is a separate line. We got the pork with black beans and rice, and the chicken with yellow rice and plantains. My next visit will be with the port and yellow rice and plantains, or green beans. It was really good. Prices are good. Lunch for 2 was $15.00. Trying to leave was something else. Had to climb in the passenger door to get in the drivers seat because the door wouldn't open with the car next to me. Then I had to sit and wait because if someone is at the drive through window, it became jammed and we couldn't pass. We scouted out any areas around in office buildings to park for next time, but everything seemed jammed. But, I would still return.

I was craving a strong cuban or puerto rican coffee so i decided to search for a place nearby on Yelp. This cafeteria was inviting and has great prices and good service. The music was festive without being too loud or overpowering. I ordered the 12oz cafe con leche for $2.50 (it tasted great...not too soft and not too sweet). I ordered the egg sandwich (but w/o cheese or ham). I hadn't had pan de agua since i was at a panaderia back home in Guaynabo a few months ago. This brought me back home. My total was $5.50 at most... Great price for a filling breakfast. I would definitely return when i am in the area.

An out-of-the-way place with fantastic local cuban sabor!. This place is well known to the locals. This is the definition of no frills from the restaurant's edifice to the plastic ware. I didn't take pictures of the food here rather, of the long lines you will find on any day of the week...(I heard it is longer on the weekend). Very inexpensive and large portions - a must try.

Short review. Inexpensive, clean, fantastic food! Busy with locals. This s now on out MUST stop list when in the area. Roasted chicken was the best I've had. Tender as in fall off the bone. Rice and black beans....superior. Latin music, Cuban food and all less than 10 minutes from the Tampa airport.

Exterior looks like it should be something else, and interior kinda reminds me of a nursing home or hospital cafeteria, but the food is great. Coffee is delicious, and so were the daily offerings, simple and good. Cheap! $1.60 for flan! Great deal. I almost swooned tucking into the plantains. Very nice staff, diverse clientele. Easy parking.

Why five start for a low brow service counter place??? Well if you can find a better $7 lunch meal anywhere else I want to know! Simple Cuban style food, just the basics...pork, chicken, ropa vieja and a few others including sandwiches...with two side dishes. Given the portions, I always take some home and make two - three meals of pure simple basics that are always good and you just can't make for $3 per serving. The ladies working the counter are always very nice...so in the genre of simple, good, nice and value...it gets a five star rating!

My coworker suggested this place because it's walking distance from our office. The outside doesn't look like much, and I never would've guessed it was a little cafeteria if I drove past it. You walk in and you're transported by the yummy smells and festive music. I almost expected some people loitering at the window/bar with their cafe con leches. I ordered a cuban sandwich without pickles, and it was absolutely delicious! I didn't think I was very hungry, but I ate the whole thing, it was just so good. The bread was beautifully crispy and the meat was a rich salty. Cheese melted to perfection and not too much mustard to make you forget about all the other flavors of the sandwich. It just worked so perfectly. Today was my first time here, and yeah, I am a fan. I have yet to try the other food. I'll update when I do.

Cuban coffee is the best coffee ever! Plus Cuban music is so much livelier than Tejano, it makes you want to dance and shake your bootay at 7 AM. I need to learn how to make Cuban coffee at home.

The Cuban is one of the best in Town and it is under Dollars. Cuban Coffee is rocket fuel... Really authentic and great for lunch.

I feel right at home, here, with my cafe con leche. A cute little neighborhood cafe offering some delectable Cuban dishes. However, don't like the velveta cheese in the omelets.

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers I have discovered the best Cuban sandwich in this part of Tampa. I work 5 minutes from this little Cuban gem and never knew it was here, hidden off Westshore Blvd. Looking like a converted bank on the outside and not much too look at inside either, don't go for the atmosphere. Walking in the service is cafeteria style. Menu boards posted advertising both breakfast and lunch options. I was there for lunch although the Cuban toast and coffee sounded yummy. In true cafeteria style I grabbed a tray and placed my order: Cuban sandwich all the way with a side order of plantains. Moving down the cafeteria line I could see pork, chicken, plantains, black beans and yellow rice, etc. on the hot line. The smells were amazing! At the end of the cafeteria line I ordered a sweet tea and flan then grabbed a table with my friend. The sandwich came out shortly after sitting down. Although it is cafeteria style they make each Cuban sandwich to order. The Cuban sandwich was stuffed with fresh shredded pork, cold cuts, lettuce, pickles, mayo and mustard. No pre-made sandwich here, the bread was fresh and crusty, crispy lettuce and pickles, but the pork really made this sandwich a sensation! The pork was tender, juicy and flavorful. Between bites of my sandwich I sampled the plantains. They were sweet, fried a deep caramel color and not greasy. The flan was a bit of a let down, it was a very bland custard. It could be that with the Cuban sandwich and plantains I was too stuffed for dessert but I love flan so had to try it. The biggest disappointment is this place is only open Monday through Friday until 3pm. I would love to swing by on my way to the mall on the weekend, or get to go for dinner after work. I guess it will just have to be my work week lunch spot from now on.

Best place in town. Well worth the price for what you get. I recommend this place to all my friends.

For $3.50 this is probably the best breakfast deal in Tampa. I would have loved to try their cafe con leche, but I didn't think that much caffeine would be good for my growing baby. I ordered the egg ham and cheese on Cuban bread. The eggs were REAL, the ham was a little crispy from being on the flat grill, and the cheese was Swiss-my fav. I have probably driven past this place a dozen times and have never noticed it before. When in the area, I've got a new cheap breakfast place.

I work just down the street and this is a favorite amongst my entire office. It's inexpensive and large proportions. They have different daily specials, when they have it, get the baked chicken! So good! A few of my co-workers take turns going there almost every day to get the coffee!

Not the best Cuban sandwich I had in Tampa/St. Pete's, but very good. Awesome cafe con leche and plantains. Excellent value for the money. Clean restaurant and friendly service. Highly recommended!

I'm not one to write a bad review, but I was really disappointed with the service this morning. I'll be the first to admit that the food and prices are excellent. I use to frequent this spot so I was really looking forward to stopping in on my way to work this morning! I ordered a breakfast sandwich, grabbed a paper and waited for my order. After waiting about 15-20 minutes I noticed she handed my order to man that came in long after I did and was in and out in 5 minutes! Okay, no biggie.. When I asked if the next order wAs mine she tried to give me cheese toast. Again, no biggie. I explained what I thought happened I was very surprised when she snapped back at me claiming she'd been calling numbers (which she hadn't) and demanded my ticket. I was shocked. It clearly created some aggravation and they were not afraid to show it. I make mistakes everyday, but I don't chastise my customers for them! It was embarrassing. There are dozens of great Cuban restaurants in the area so sadly, I will give my business to them. I just hope the staff sees this review and does better job next time.

I recently went to La Bamba for the first time after seeing a collective "thumbs up" on Yelp and reviewing Yelper pictures (since the restaurant doesn't have a website or social media presence). I got there before the lunch rush (whew) and was able to grab a parking spot in the back. It's cafeteria style and it feels like everyone there is a regular. Being a brand new customer was intimidating but I made it through the line with a very generous serving of roast pork, beans and rice, and bread for $6.50. What a deal! I ate half for lunch that day (the smell in my car as I rode back to the office was amazing) and half for lunch the next day. By the time I walked out there was a long line out the door of hungry people. I will definitely be back to La Bamba soon - hopefully to try their breakfast and more of their lunch menu.

Why 4 stars? Because I felt like my caffeine wish finally came true. --- --- --- On those days when sleep is REALLY lacking, I've always said that I wish I could hook up an IV of caffeine straight to my blood stream. After drinking the double espresso from La Bamba, I understand why the FDA has not approved caffeine IV's. Sam Q warned me in his review that it was not a drink for the faint of heart...I thought I could handle it though. It completely rocked my world. I had no idea what to do with myself. I was beyond "wired." I feel like I could hear the Earth rotating. My liver itched. I manually calculated how many days I'd been alive. I need to make a return trip to La Bamba for food, because if they can do coffee this well, they probably make a damn good Cuban.

Great Cuban food -- atmosphere is lacking, but La Bamba is clean and the staff is friendly. I had the tender & tasty beef (carne con papas) with black beans and rice and my bride had the chicken (fricase de pollo). Fantastic flavor in the sauce with ample servings -- we'll be back!!

Great location near my work, but I wish the food quality was a little better. Love the cafeteria style serving. I tried picadillo with black beans and rice. The picadillo was okay - a little bland but warm and not greasy. The black beans were excellent. Well-seasoned with just a hint of smokiness from being cooked with meat. Great value at about $10 for dinner and a drink. My lunch buddies tried the roast pork (proclaimed moist and delicious) and the palomilla steak sandwhich which looked amazing. They were out of flan by the time I arrived, so I went with one of the sugar cookies by the cash register. This was a mistake - it was dry and overly salty. Ewww. Overall, decent place to grab a cheap, hot lunch. I want to go back and check out the ropa veija or perhaps the boliche before I make a final decision.

The BEST Cuban coffee in Tampa. Period. Starbuck's got nothing on these guys. If you are a coffee junky, order a double espresso. I swear that the spoon almost stays put upright when you stick it in the cup held by the pure caffeine goodness in that tiny little shot glass. Be warned though - it will land in your stomach like a bomb, so definitely not for the faint of heart (or stomach). La Bamba is a lunch joint open from 7am to 3pm weekdays. Its been open for at least 15 years that I know of personally, probably a lot longer. They have a cafeteria line style menu with the traditional Cuban staples, such as white and yellow rice, black beans, plantains, roasted pork, ground beef, etc. Sometimes they have specials with breaded steak covered in mozzarella and tomato sauce, or fish. And their sandwiches are delicious. Their Cuban sandwich is good (not the best in Tampa, but not bad). My personal favorite is the breaded steak sandwich. Yes, you read that right. They take a steak, they put breading on it, fry it, and put it between two pieces of fresh Cuban bread. Add cheese, grilled onions, and press it on their toaster, and you have sandwich Nirvana. Breakfast has their world famous (my world at least) Cuban cheese toast. Order it with extra cheese and order a cafe con leche with sugar. Dunk the toast in the coffee. Rinse, chew, and repeat. Weight Watchers cries at the sight of this overdose of cheese and sugar. And don't get me started on the bacon, egg, and cheese Cuban sandwich. Yum. The place is nice and clean although not a chain restaurant by any means. It gets packed for lunch and I take clients and out of town guests for a taste of the local Tampa flavor. In over 15 years not one has walked out of there disappointed. Now that I've lost 90 pounds I'm adding La Bamba back to my regular rotation. Not too regular lest I put all those pounds back. But a breaded steak Cuban sandwich once in a while is good for the soul.

Cafeteria style serving line with excellent food and very generous portions. Two of us had plenty of good food for about $15. I had ropa vieja with rice and black beans, and it was all good. My wife had roasted pork, which was good but a bit heavy on the salt. The plantains were good. We're here for a few more days but this place is worth a second trip.

I was craving some Cuban cheese toast and cafe con leche so when I saw how close this place was to my office, I made a quick detour on the way back to the office. It didn't disappoint. The coffee was strong and hot and the cheese toast was everything I had been craving! The ladies were friendly, quick and efficient and the place was very clean. I can't wait to go back and try something for lunch now!

The Cuban sandwich with black beans and rice was just average. The other food looked good, but I think the skimp a little on the Cuban quality. It was clean, and maintained well. I would go again though.

I was craving a Cuban sandwich, so on a coworker's recommendation I tried La Bamba out. It's a little cafeteria-type place, where you get your food & take it by tray to the register, then have a seat & dig in. I had the half cuban & cup of soup (opting for the black bean soup, one of today's 4 or so 'specials') for $4.00. They only take credit cards for orders $5 or more, & I didn't have cash, but they let me use my card anyway (I tipped to make it $5 for their flexibility & friendliness). The cuban was pressed, so the bread was crunchy, warm, & delicious. The meat was cold in the very center -- which is actually exactly how I like my cubans (I know, I'm crazy). & the soup was hot (nothing worse than cold soup, which I've had at some restaurants) & reeeeeally tasty. I'll definitely be back again -- next time with cash & company in tow.
