This place was absolutely outstanding! The prices were reasonable for a hibachi restaurant and the food was amazing. The ingredients were fresh and our chef was very nice and funny. I would certainly recommend the Kuchi dinner for two that features all of the meats including steak, chicken, shrimp, lobster, and scallops. It is also accompanied with soup and salad of course. The fried rice is delicious alongside the white sauce. The interior is lovely and very clean. I think I'll be back every time I'm in Tampa. There are no complaints about this place at all.

I came into a quirky interior that had playful elements. A guy comes with a fresh hot towel and I was impressed-- the traditional way to eat sushi is with your hands. I was really hopeful at this point. Tuna is a great indicator of fish quality so I ordered a hand rolled spicy tuna roll and a specialty tuna amazing. The spicy tuna was not fresh at all. I was surprised it looked all the way cooked and ground up. The texture was very grainy. I requested low to no sauce on the tuna amazing, but it was still quite covered. It tasted cheap, but it also didn't cover for the fish that didn't taste fresh either. Even if we ignore their ingredients, my sushi was not sliced evenly. This shows that the chef is undisciplined. Their sushi doesn't cut it in ingredients or preparation. Furthermore, a worker who was not my server was on her phone and eating noodles in my line of sight. I tipped well for my adorable server, but I probably won't be back.

This was my second time to Kuchi and I had a really great experience the time before. We'd had sushi the first time and wanted to come back for hibachi. We walked in around 5:50 on a Sunday night. The manager sat the two of us at a hibachi table by ourselves. The server came to take our drink orders and everything was going pretty smoothly. The second couple sat approximately 15 minutes after us and next a family of seven. We watched tables all around us fill up and promptly receive a hibachi chef. The family of seven ordered quite a few appetizers and so we figured the cooks were waiting until they were done in order to start our food. That would be fine -- except for the fact my boyfriend and I sat there waiting patiently for over an hour to get served. We're typically very patient people but this was just getting ridiculous. The couple next to us started to catch on and asked the server what was going on. Either he didn't speak English very well or he had no clue, so he brought the manager over. This is when things got interesting. We explained our situation very calmly and expressed our frustration with waiting over an hour for our chef. The manager explained how things can get messed up sometimes and specifically told us he'd "take care of our meals." That was fine with us and we even mentioned to each other what great customer service that was. In our minds, we assumed this meant he'd either comp our meals or give us a pretty impressive discount. Unfortunately, when the checks came, both our check and the couple's check next to us had just a 10% discount taken off. For us, it was less than $5. For the other couple, it was $6. The other gentleman asked for the manager to come back and the manager acted like what he did was such a favor to us. When we asked why he didn't "take care of us," he told us that it was company policy and was unable to comp our meals. He said he almost got fired for trying to do so during another instance. We could not believe what we were hearing. If he would have told us the first time that he'd only be giving us a 10% discount, we could have paid for our soups and salads and walked out. This was poor management at its finest. We will not be going back to Kuchi.

Great atmosphere, service, and decent food. There are a few minor quibbles - I don't care for their salad dressing - it's more sweet than gingery for my taste - and the brown dipping sauce isn't as good as other teppanyaki places. The noodles are lo mein noodles and are rather firm - I much prefer the more spaghetti-like noodles that Arigato used. That said, the food is indeed good and priced reasonably.

Well this is definitely my new spot. I stopped by last night after an acute onset of an intense sushi craving hit me. Being that it's in the same plaza as the AMC Veterans there's plenty of parking and a quick walk over to the theater. Perfect for the dinner and a movie type of evening. Inside the restaurant it's very modern, crisp, and clean. There's a fair amount of up lighting which gives the place a little more of a nicer vibe. I was greeted immediately by a very friendly waiter who was professional and engaging. The menu was the size of a textbook so all the typical options you would hope to find and a lot of creative sushi rolls are available. I ordered the 'Out of Control' roll and after the first delicious bite I automatically checked my calendar to see when my schedule would allow for me to come back! Presentation was beautiful, very fresh ingrediates, and great flavor! The list of $5 cocktails covers most of the go to drinks that people order and it's not the watered down version that you expect on the discounted drinks menu. Overall I had a great time, awesome meal, and foresee this place doing very well :)

Very nice interior and decor to this place. You can tell that the owners put a lot of though into the layout as the design is very modern and appealing to the eye. You are greeted by a nice water fountain as soon as you step inside and have the option at sitting in the sushi or hibachi area. Me and the misses elected to go to the sushi area because we were craving for good sushi. Gotta admit the presentation of the sushi was excellent as our dish came with a cool design of a shrimp that was drawn on using some type of sauce. The sushi however fell short as we received I'd say 85% rice/veggie/fruit and the remaining in small amounts of actual meat/fish. For the price we paid for each roll (about $15) I guess we expected more meat/fish or substance other than veggie/fruit in our sushi. We did order the ika maruyaki (grilled squid) which was very good and came in a big dish but as for the sushi it fell way short of our expectations. The free ice cream at the end of our meal was a nice touch!

This would be a great for a small or large group that wants something different. Lunch prices are right on par and they have a full sushi bar for those that don't want to do teppanyaki. I really enjoyed this place, it's brand new and they're just learning the market/target area. They were very helpful with the menu and there are two different areas, which makes it a great place to hang out for a drink on one of the two "lighted" tables that are just inside behind the waterfall...very kewl looking decor. I would suggest this place to anyone that wants something different, with a wide variety of sushi options.

OMG!!! Absolutely in love! I am a former Carrollwood area inhabitant and grew up eating at Arigatos once a week with my family. I have eaten at Japanese steakhouses all across the country from Hawaii to the West Coast and back to the East Coast. This has far surpassed my expectations. We began with the Ninja roll which was delivered within five minutes of ordering. Right after we finished our soup and salad, the roll arrived and when we finished our roll, our chef arrived. EVERYTHING (steak, shrimp, calamari) was perfectly prepared and our chef was a blast. My only complaint is that I have to catch two planes and travel 4+ hours to get here!

KUCHI Sushi & Hibachi is a fairly new combination restaurant that serves fresh sushi and sashimi on one side of the restaurant, and sit-down Japanese Hibachi-style cooking on the other side of the restaurant. Normally these types of hybrid restaurants do a good job in one area, but fail in the other, however KUCHI has found the successful formula to blend fresh and innovative sushi rolls with the artistic showmanship and delicious cooking on the hibachi grills. You'll find KUCHI in the AMC 24 Veterans movie theater shopping center along Anderson Road. There are several other restaurants, coffee shops, and bars on the various outparcels around the movie theater. Unfortunately many of the previous restaurants have gone out of business after a short while, leaving me to wonder if this shopping center is haunted by the ghosts of restaurants past? KUCHI has been open about three months as of this writing, and the exterior still looks a lot like the former Bennigan's restaurant that occupied the same space. Through the front doors and you'll be greeted by the hostess who asks if you want to have sushi or hibachi-style dining. If you say "hibachi" then you'll be led to the left to the traditional U-shaped tables around the hibachi grill. If you say "sushi" you'll be directed straight ahead to either sit around the large sushi bar, or at one of the nearby tables. I have no idea what they will do if you say "both". On the sushi side of the restaurant, they also have a small sake-tasting bar in the back of the room. Presumably this is where you would sit and wait for the rest of your party to arrive before being shown to your hibachi table. On this particular night I decided to sit at the sushi bar and try some of their rolls, although on my next visit I'd like to try the teppanyaki menu choices. The bulk of the menu is filled with creative sushi rolls and sushi special combinations, KUCHI offers traditional nigiri and sashimi, but the focus seems to be on their rolls. If raw fish isn't your thing then the flip side of the menu has teriyaki, tempura, katsu and noodle dishes, in addition to the plethora of protein choices that can be grilled up on the hibachi by your chef. They have some limited vegetarian options, but this is primary steak, chicken, and seafood on the grill. For my dinner I ordered the Spicy Maki combo which were three rolls - spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail. Very basic, and very good. Upon the recommendation of my server I also ordered the Painted Lady roll which was a spectacular combination of spicy lobster with mango and asparagus, topped with spicy tuna, and avocado, and served with mango sauce and Sriracha. That roll was delicious! The emphasis is on the chef's knife skills and artistic presentations of each plate of sushi. I watched them carving little statues made with daikon radish and carrot which were true works of art. It would be fun to go back with a group and watch them prepare larger platters and sushi boats with these playful creations. I do hope that KUCHI beats the odds and stays open for a while. I'd like to go back and try some more of their sushi, and possibly get a group together to go for their hibachi-style meals.

I was excited to try this restaurant but was disappointed. We went after a movie and at around 945pm, it was super busy. Our waitress took out drink order. The Hot Sake was cold and she brought us 2 larges instead of 1 (we were a party of 5). It took her 3-4 reminders to bring me a straw for My water. I asked that one of my roll be made with no fish eggs and to add Cream cheese. As the waitress was setting It down she noticed the fish eggs and brought it back to the kitchen. When she Brought it back everyone was already halfway into their meal. So I go to eat it and noticed it had no cream cheese. I called the waitress over to tell her so I didn't get charged for the cream cheese. She offered to fix but I declined. I was already annoyed and just wanted to eat dinner. I may come Back and try the hibachi but the rolls weren't anything special and the attention to details were lacking.

The inside of this place is modern and pretty neat with their white chairs and black tables, blue, green and purple glowing light fixtures everywhere. They have a really large sushi menu along with hibachi tables. Sometimes hibachi restaurants can get noisy, so if you're looking for a quieter aspect, they have a separate dining area too. The sushi menu all sounded good so I basically just closed my eyes and pointed. The sushi rolls were fantastic, even something as simple as the Philadelphia, however, one drawback is they put Siracha on allot of rolls, which sounds good in theory, but it made it hard to taste the rolls and almost kind of ruined it. The service is fast and friendly, even the manager came by to ask how we were enjoying ourselves. The only thing I have to complain about is the cocktails. Absolutely disgusting. They have a full bar, and after making my "Mai Tai" - it was so awful I couldn't drink it - I asked for Malibu, grenadine and OJ. Simple right? No, I got my same drink back with a little more OJ. Otherwise this place is pretty good.

We were impressed as soon as we walked in with the decor. We were asked which side we would like to sit on, Sushi or Hibachi, but tonight we were here for the sushi. The hostess left us with both menus and explained you can order off both if we'd like. That is nice. The sushi menu is pretty large, normally I find one or two options that I would like, I found several I'd like and plenty on the hibachi. The menu did not make it very clear on if the hibachi menu is if they serve this during lunch as they had a lunch menu on both. But we asked and the answer is yes. Our waitress was extremely friendly and offered help with our decisions. We ordered the miso and mushroom soups, both very good. For our appetizer the got the Yellowfin Ceviche which came out plated beautifully! I am not a huge fan personally but I did try it and it was good, the hubby loved it and was excited I didn't want more than one piece. We ordered the Black Angel and Six Flags rolls, and they both were AMAZING. Normally Brian will try my roll and that's it... he kept trying to get more and more pieces. Brian enjoyed his so much that he decided he needed to order more... so he got the Spicy Tuna, which I think the waitress only heard Tuna because there was no heat to it at all. We also got the Spicy Mango Lobster Roll and it was good, just not as good as the first time. I personally thought it needed a crunch for a difference in textures, if you order the Painted Lady... you'd have the texture difference. We will be back for sure, the food was well worth it. I just hope the location doesn't hurt the business as several places in this plaza have closed or do not seem to do well.

Been here many times and I would say the are definitely better than Kobe by far. This place has great food and the prices aren't bad! The drinks are a little strong but I'm not complaining! Love this place they know me by name now.

I would give them 10 stars if I could! We went for my nephews birthday and it was the best hibachi show we have ever had. We usually do Benihana for birthdays while in Orlando and we are so glad we gave Kuchi a try! They really raised the bar! Our chef had all the tricks and our servers were so good. My nephew was so happy and loved the tricks that they did when they shot the broccoli in our mouths. They even managed to get all of the broccoli in everyone's mouths. Such a great time! I highly recommend it and make a reservation so you and your party can be seated immediately upon arrival. Mid you're looking for great hibachi and sad that Arigato closed, don't be! Kuchi is the best in Tampa and sure to impress you and your guests!! Keep up the great service Kuchi!

Amazing sushi, awesome service. Great place for fresh fish and fried roll lovers alike! I've only eaten on the hibachi side once, which was fabulous, but I mainly come for the sushi! The "out of control" roll is out of this world. Also, the service has always been very good. I highly recommend!

Really good Hibachi! We came here for lunch with a group from work and we were all really impressed. The food was great, portions were awesome and everything was cooked great! The servers were very quick and it was overall awesome dining experience. Highly recommend this Hibachi one of the best in the area that I've found!

Kuchi's signature sushi rolls are creative and delicious! I love the decoration on their plates. They will give you hot towels to clean your hands before ordering and free vanilla ice cream at the end. The prices are $12+ for the rolls. I was only disappointed on their "coconut tapioca and grass jelly". It was canned coconut milk with tiny tapioca and probably canned grass jelly. Their mango slush was made with fresh mango though, I recommend it.

So after reading the reviews we thought we'd try the hibachi side..it was fairly quiet when we arrived but soon fairly busy..the servers were attentive and soon our chef came...other than being fairly quiet (was a little hard to hear above the fans & noise of restaurant) but general jokes and there was a young boy (approx 3 years) that he kept smiling! Of the 4 ppl of our party, 2 had the chicken & shrimp & 2 had the combo (lobster, steak, chicken, shrimp & scallops). I had my doubts as the scallops sizzled and developed crust and seemed to be on the grill too long as he tossed zucchini to participants willing to catch (or try!) in their mouths. Plenty of sauce added to the noodles & fried rice (little bit too much for us and the only thing that stopped that 5th star! ) also had "yummy sauce" which is crazy rich (think savory creme brulee!) which was delicious on the chicken! After all the entertainment he divided the proteins up....Man! DELISH! Surprisingly the scallops were tender with great flavor, filet well seasoned, lobster (covered in butter!) & tender chicken. Everyone very full & enjoyed very much! The ice cream at the end was a nice touch too! The people that were seated with us said they came often (lived very close) & really hoping this restaurant would "make it" since they enjoyed very often, us being from across the country probably won't be back soon but definitely would if closer! We are all very glad we tried this place!

Just the right blend of skillfully made sushi with very pleasant artsy surroundings. A very large selection of sushi of all types (cooked and uncooked) and the staff was very friendly. A great place to go with a group. There are alot of sushi places in Tampa and I am a long time visitor of Matoi. We noticed Kuchi while going to a movie at the Vet 24 and decided to try it out for our Anniversary. We really loved the experience. We started with chilled lychee flavor saki which was an excellent alternative to plum wine (next time we intend to try fuji apple). Both of us really dig gyoza dumpling so that was a must have - these were well made fresh and cooked just right not floppy or overly crispy. I wanted something fun so we decided to go for the love boat which was an adorably presented sushi and sashimi combo. The sushi was just the way we like it with a medium amount of rice and the sashimi was in excellent cuts neither too thin nor too large. (Pics to come later) Mr Shu the manager came over to sing us an adorable happy anniversary song using a drum and suspended symbol at the end of our meal - we posted a video of the hilarious experience. I very much recommend mentioning its an anniversary or birthday.

OMG I am so excited! Every hibachi place in Tampa has like 2-3 stars and my hubby and I weren't excited to pay $100+ for a so-so meal. Then we found Kuchi...! We've been to this plaza a million times and have never seen this place, but it's brand spanking new! The staff is so friendly...seriously..the hostess and waitress were all smiles, the chef was HILARIOUS and did all kinds of awesome hibachi chef things like shooting sake into our mouths, shooting zucchini into our mouths, the volcano, the peeing boy, the egg-roll.....lol (not every hibachi place does all these..and the shooting sake one is pretty rare)! The sushi was delicious, the soup/salad were great, and we loved the steak/shrimp/chicken...even the owner came over to say hello and make a joke about how his hands are tired from massaging all the beef lol!! Nothing negative to say...everything was wonderful and we will DEFINITELY be back!

Wow, I stopped next door for drinks and then syped this little new jewel. I was Definitely l in the hungry mode and did not know weather to go hibachi or sushi. ..... Wait for it, it was a roll.of the dice... sushi won out. Everything appeared fresh, was very tasty & I am not a huge sushi fan, but am learning and loving it more each time. The service was top notch, the food was flavorful & fresh. When you are dealing with sushi, you have to know it is fresh, & it was fresh.. All in all a great experience & I can't wait to go try the hibachi! Prices were right, ambiance was killer and food was incredibly terrific. What's a girl to do? Always go for the best food possible! .

I was surprised. I was expecting a sit down individual table experience and got something a little better. We walked in and were quickly asked "Sushi or Hibachi?". The place is physically set up to serve Sushi on one side and the Hibachi tables are on the other side. We said Hibachi which I thought meant individual tables and a back room kitchen made meal. I was pleasantly surprised to be shown to one of those U shaped tables with the hot grill in the middle, a la Arigato's, Kobe's and a host of other Japanese Teppanyaki style cooking. Ahhh, this is going to be good. We were a little earlier than the lunch crowd and it looked like the sushi side of the house was doing well. Our side had 3 hibachi tables fully seated and the chef's doing their thing...ie egg into the hat, onion choo choo, etc. I chose Beef and Chicken and asked for only vegetables, no rice. After all the fancy cooking, the metal spatulas and knives flying around, I got Beef and Chicken, vegetables and rice. Later on, the manager and head Hibachi supervisor apologized time and time again. No big deal. I brought most of the rice home anyway for our granddaughter. However, I noted one thing. Don't be at the wrong end of the table. It seemed the other folks to my right got decent portions of each item, I ended up with what was left, which appeared slightly less on the beef, chicken and vegetables. Also, I asked for medium cooked on the beef, others asked for well done. The beef went on and came off the grill at the same time, so how was mine any different from their's. All in all, an okay experience. Will I go back....maybe.

Came here with a couple of friends for lunch and it was delicious. Love the art on the plate, it was simply beautiful. Service was nice and fast. I recommend to come with more people so that you can try multiple different sushis. I will definitely be coming here again.

Totally caught off guard, in a good way! Loved the ambience. Sat at the boat shaped bar. Servers came out with warm towels, and we were greeted multiple times. Everything we ordered came out in perfect timing. The food was very good and it matched the service. At the end of our meal we were given free ice cream! Big hit for this pregnant yelper! Will definitely be regulars here because their aren't many good habachi spots on this side. Way to go!

Don't let the outside fool you! I'm not going to sugar coat it...the outside looks like a hot mess and super cheap. Once you get inside though I promise you'll be shocked. The interior is clean and well decorated, you'd never expect it from looking at the exterior. On to the food. I only did the sushi menu as I find every hibachi is gimmicky and flavorless. As far as sushi goes their concept is modern and "fancy". Their main focus is on specialty rolls as opposed to simple nigiri but they make it work with the presentation. I call their sushi "fancy" because you get rolls decorated with sauces and even get a carved daikon sculpture in your plate. For me, it's a bit frilly but it wasn't bad at all. They have a few rolls that flirt with fruit parings and other non-traditional flavors which I don't mind and actually appreciated because it was done subtly and didn't overwhelm. If you're really into rolls this place is for you. The servings were large. And the price was ok. They averaged about 12-13 per roll. The service was a bit slow but we ordered a lot, and the carved daikon looked like it would have taken a few minutes to do. Overall, I gave this place 4 stars because it was the complete opposite of what I expected to get when I first walked in. It's worth a shot if you love sushi.

Good sushi at a good price as long as you stay away from the specialty rolls. Nice atmosphere. I'll be going back next time I'm in town. The interior is nicely decorated. The warm wet nice smelling towel before the meal to rinse your hands and the comp vanilla ice cream at the end is a nice touch.

I can see why this place gets rave reviews. We had a fantastic time here last night. We stumbled upon this place while looking for a bite before going to the movies at AMC veterans. It is tucked in behind another restaurant in the plaza adjacent to the theater. Food was great, hibachi chef was entertaining and good at what he did. It also helped that he gave us plenty of sake shots :) We also had great service. No wait around 8 on a Saturday night. Will be back again for sure.

The Sushi was garbage, the duck salad was ok. This is definitely not a 4 and a 1/2 star restaurant for sushi. Are you freaking kidding me? The on post commissary at Macdill AFB has better sushi.

Was the absolute best sushi I have had in Tampa hands down, after 5 years of being a Tampa resident I have finally found the last sushi place I'll ever visit. The detail on the rolls was impeccable. Service was great. The restaurant was clean, neat, atmosphere was excellent. The sushi makers wore face masks so no germs would pass through. The chairs at the bar were even spaced perfectly from each other. Do eat here if you get a chance, it's worth the trip.

The ambiance is amazing. Total lounge club vibe. You walk in and there's a nice relaxing fountain. There are 2 parts to the restaurant. The hibachi section where they cook in front of you and the sushi area which consists of bar seating and tables. We opted for the sushi side as we just wanted something quick and easy. The food was subpar, the size of the rolls were very upsetting. Every single roll was $12,95, even the simplest of rolls. I'm fine with paying that price if I get that amount of food... the rolls are very very small. One roll had shrimp and mango... 80%of the small roll was mango a tiny bit of rice and a sliver of shrimp.. for $12,95. Come on? The server was very nice, I think we got her on her first day ever of working as a waitress so can't really judge her on that. She was very attentive. I'm glad I can say 'been there not doing it again'. There is so much potential and i'm sad it wasn't as good as I had hoped.

Fantastic meal at Kuchi!! As big hibachi fans, we were all sad when our favorite local restaurant closed recently, and have been looking for a new spot. We decided to try Kuchi on a whim, as it is right next to our favorite movie theatre. Let me just say, we were BLOWN AWAY! The service was fantastic. The server was very attentive and friendly, the manager and owner each visited our take making sure everything was living up to our expectations, and even the bus boy was incredibly courteous. The chef was probably the best Hibachi chef we've ever had. Funny, friendly, and despite a little bit of a language barrier (he told us he came over from Korea within the last month), he worked very hard to make sure we were happy. An offhand observation that they used real garlic instead of garlic butter led to extra garlic on everything for us (after asking to make sure it was okay, of course). We all got saki squirted into our mouths, every trick you've seen and a few you haven't was performed, and we could not stop laughing the entire time. The food was fantastic. Nothing was anything less than you've had anywhere else, and the steak in particular (our party had both the filet and standard sirloin) stood out from any other hibachi restaurant. The meal was finished with a nice bowl of ice cream, completely unexpected. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the effort that went into decorating. The restaurant is clean, modern, distinctly Japanese but not overdone to the point of being kitschy. The best word we came up with to describe it was sleek. Clearly, every detail of the restaurant and your meal was thought out, and it's clear management really cares about your experience. I can't recommend Kuchi highly enough, and we're thrilled to have found a new favorite hibachi restaurant!!

While the restaurant was empty upon our arrival we were relieved to have such a great dining experience. We ordered some drinks at the bar while we waited for our party: manhattan cocktails and large sakes, while being helped by a friendly staff. Our chef at the hibachi was well trained and entertaining. Our lobster was cooked perfectly and filet was at the right levels of medium rare. He took special requests for preparation and the food was outstanding.] The interior decor was bright and fancy and worked well. The bar was well stocked, and the manager (Shu) was very attentive to our group.

This place is close to where I work, so I go here a lot for lunch or dinner. The food is awesome! If you have a choice between the misou soup or the mushroom soup, go with the mushroom soup, AWESOME. I love the sushi, super fresh and they make pretty cool designs on the plate. I've had hibachi here also, so good. I ate everything. The prices are decent. I didn't give it 5 stars because they only serve beer and wine, which is not what I want to drink when I go out for sushi. I want some cool cocktails! Also, the on the inside, the place is beautiful, but it looks seriously sketchy on the outside. Why are the blinds closed??? it makes me think (what the heck are they doing in there at night? It's uncomfortable.

I have been here twice now, once in the sushi side and once in the hibachi side and both times the service and food were both amazing. The restaurant is plot in two so if you want a communal dinner there isn't a problem but if you want a more intimate one on one that can be done as well. The hibachi chef was well trained and knew all of the table show displays that are sometimes ignored. This has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants.

Amazing. Had Rocky Shrimp as an appetizer which has a flavor similar to bang bang shrimp but far superior. We had 5 different rolls and they were all incredible. Highly recommend this place. We will be back.

Hibachi is def something I like to indulge in a little too often(Muahahaha) so when hearing of a new restaurant only 5 minutes from my house you can imagine my excitement. Upon arriving at kuchi I immediately noticed the personal touches that make it stand out from the rest. The first thing is the outstanding customer service! These employees really do go above and beyond, you just don't see that anymore. Second would be the sushi! It was very fresh and my mom almost ate the whole order before I could try it if that says anything(sorry mom). Last but not least, the hibachi met my expectations with a great show for my son, food that wowed my taste buds, and the chef told us that they make all of their sauces naturally and from fresh ingredients! Does it get any better than that?

Plain outside and entrance belies a very attractive and comfortable inside decor. Sushi on one side and Japanese hibachi tables on the other. Small bar for drinks while you're waiting in the back. The main attraction of the place is its location next to the AMC 24 movie theaters, making it great for a dinner-and-a-movie evening. Based on experience, allow at least 90 minutes before your movie if you're doing a hibachi-table dinner. (Our main complaint was that it took a very long time to get our check and leave, and we were trying to get to a movie next door.) The sushi was very creative and delicious, and tasted fresh. The hibachi menu and de rigueur chef performance is standard fare... no surprises. Friends ordered the dinner for 2 and really enjoyed it (steak, shrimp, chicken, scallop and lobster combination). The accompanying fried rice (included with most dinners) is stir-fried with the white "yummy-yummy" sauce in it and was very light on vegetables. That was OK, but not as good as other places' rice where they don't stir-fry the sauce into the rice. The accompanying noodles were also very sweet and very dark compared to other hibachi places. The dark and light sauces that accompany the meals were good but not great... again, a little too sweet for our taste, but easily balanced with some soy. Portions were generous and the proteins were cooked well and tasted delicious. The service was OK. Slow at the bar (where did she take my credit card to close out our check?) and, as stated, slow when we wanted to leave. While I'm all for safety and food health, the "sneeze guards" worn by the chefs bothered me. Overall, if looking for sushi alone, the place is excellent and rates 5 stars. The hibachi-table dinner is good, but not as good as some, and rates 3 stars. If all I wanted was a good hibach-table dinner experience, there are better places to go in Tampa. The fact that you can have a very good Japanese sushi and/or hibachi dinner right next to the movies makes this a place we will return to and worth recommending on that basis.

Visited this place with co-worker's after work. Been passing this place since they put up the sign opening soon and I told my self that I will visit it one time. And today is the day. As soon as we walk in the ambiance is different. Very relaxing and nice. They did s great job renovating the place. Look really expensive. By the way you can choose to seat by the sushi bar or by the hibachi place. Price were great not to bad. We ordered the yellow tail ceviche and it was amazing mouth watery. Next one was the ika grilled (grilled squid) it was awesome. Brings me back to my memories of the Philippines. Then we ordered there sushi dynamite roll is good and lil spicy taste but I love it. Then the dessert! We tried the kiwi tapioca. Really kiwi taste. And the free green tea ice cream to end the evening. Great food! Great experience! Definitely going back again to try the hibachi! Keep it up! And oh the manager was awesome. Keep stopping by to check on everything!!!

I've been here twice since they've opened up this restaurant. The first time was great! My boyfriend & I started with handmade rolls for appetizers & ordered some chicken & steak hibachi for dinner. Hot hand towels are handed out at the beginning of your visit to clean your hands off which is very nice . Soup & salad is served promptly after ordering hibachi & all the serving staff always seems very willing to help. The chef's whole meal presentation & "show" was awesome, very energetic & Kobe-esc but that's still a good time. Our whole visit was great. The second time I went with a girl friend of mine & we had a ton of sushi combinations & I had the veggie hibachi. Again, serving staff was quite friendly & helpful. My friend did not like two of her rolls & they did they're best to replace the plates with something else she thought she'd enjoy more. We were the only two at the table since it was near close & the chef still was very entertaining & friendly. Another successful meal. Complimentary scoop of vanilla ice cream at the end of your meal is def a thoughtful bonus!

I ate here for the first time last night. My husband and I ate on the sushi side and had no complaints! The staff was extremely friendly and provided us with great service from beginning to end. We tried the trio tartare for an appetizer which was great and fresh tasting, and we also had an order of edamame. The portion of edamame they served was huge! For the sushi rolls we had a philly, ninja, the painted lady, & the tuna amazing. All of the rolls came out on a large platter with a great presentation. There wasn't one we didn't like! At the end of the meal, our server even brought us out 2 complimentary bowls of vanilla ice cream which was a nice gesture. I held back on giving them 5 stars in my review only because I want to go back and try the hibachi side of the restaurant. They had a decent amount of guest dining on that side of the restaurant and the other reviews are favorable, so I look forward to going back to try it out!

feeling of family effort around this establishment. I'd really like to see them succeed. At this time, they do not have a top shelf liquor bar. Makes me wonder how they would like to sell alcohol without top shelf selections. Staff was wonderful, hibachi was Ok. Very passionate staff and clean atmosphere.

Service was terrible. Had to tell the server 4 times what my order was. The duck salad was phenomenally terrible. Salmon roll was actually very good. Spicy tuna = garbage. Yellowtail with scallions had manaise in it for unknown reason which was not listed on the menu. After the table was cleared we waited at least 25 mins for our our check in an empty restaurant. Will go one more time to try the hibachi but probably won't be soon.

My husband made reservations for us so we could enjoy ourselves on Valentine's Day and everything was smooth sailing. We arrived early to the place and we were put on wait because apparently, they had us down for the Hibachi table (which we didn't request), so we sat down and waited while looking at the beautiful, modern decorations that suit this place quite well. We were promptly taken back to the dinning area and sat at a hibachi table along with other couples. We requested to be moved to a booth or another table because, again, we didn't want hibachi but sushi. The girl called the manager and the manager said that if we wanted to move it would be a 25 min. wait and that we should've asked for a table when we reserved. I told her that we weren't even given the option and the choice was made for us, and so she moved us immediately to a nice table. -Which is why I take a star off of the review- Onto the well earned 4 stars... The food was simply amazing, they had too much to chose from and making a choice took us a little while. We started with the Age Tofu which was SUPERB and came beautifully presented, we drank Lychee Sake (so smooth and delicious) and some plum wine and ordered our sushi. All of the rolls are beautifully presented too, in our first plate there was a sculpture of a swan made out of carrot and radish and on the second one there was a carrot butterfly. Everything looked absolutely gorgeous and it really added onto the amazing flavor the rolls have. We also ordered some Miso soup and let me tell you, it's one of the best I've tried so far in a sushi place, it tastes strongly of miso and has its characteristic milky look, but it's not overly powerful, just plain amazing. Even though we weren't at the hibachi table, we were able to see the chefs giving a show to the tables and they are crazy skilled and very very good at what they do. This place is definitely worth it and even much more so since it's so close to home. Great food!!!!

The restaurant it's really clean and peaceful. Since the moment we walked in we were greeted by everyone and got seated immediately. Even though we were only two, it didn't matter that we wanted hibachi and they sat us to be cooked for. The waitress was on point! We didn't even need to ask for refills because she kept making sure we didn't need to. The chef that cooked for us made conversation and was very personalized. He made sure that we had great food while having great conversation! I would absolutely recommend this place and will for sure be back. There was enough food for lunch and dinner and it was delicious!!! They even included dessert! Do not miss out on it if you're close by or just if you're in the mood for sushi or hibachi

I wanted to badly to fall in love with this place the second I walked in. It's got a great feel clean, sleek, and modern, it was a big step away from the organic feel of more traditional sushi bars. Once you open the menu you're hit rapid fire with some great sounding appetizers and sushi. Wanting to get a good sense about their sushi, I ordered the supper boat, the price was not disproportional of the size and variety of the boat. We started our dinner with soup and salad, it seemed a little weird we only received 1 soup and 1 salad for a 70 something dollar boat, I'm used to at least receiving a set of soup and salad per person. The dressing was not like any other ginger dressing I've had, in a bad way. It was weirdly creamy and didn't taste of ginger or the traditional orange. The soup we got was cold, as if it sat at the expediting table for way too long. The restuarant was not busy enough to warrant a cold soup, there was my table and another couple that occupied the whole sushi side. When the boat finally arrived it was spectacular to look at, a lush assortment of sushi and nigiri and was even adorned with a carrot crab and turtle. The sashimi and nigiri were great, fresh and juicy, I'd put it up against any of my other favorite sushi bars. But then we got to the sushi rolls, I was so excited, having read the descriptions and tasted the great fish. I took my first bite in the rolls and I was so confused, I took another from a new roll then another. My taste buds were baffled. My expectations were dashed, the flavors were so muddled so lost, there was no contrast in the rolls and they just taste flat, one note. It was such a bummer, I was ready for this place to be a new great sushi bar but it really under performed, I won't give up on this place though. There was a whole other side I want to try out for myself. The hibachi side and menu look just as varied and delicious as that of the sushi menu, so my hope is that it lives up to my expectations. I will definitely be back soon to try their cooked menu items.

My boyfriend and I were going to go to another Hibachi restaurant for my birthday but decided to try Kuchi after seeing such high ratings on Google. We were not disappointed!! It was a Tuesday night and terrible weather so the place was almost empty, but instead of squeezing us into another hibachi table, they gave us our own table for the two of us. The portion sizes were much larger than I have received at other hibachi places and the food was delicious!! For my birthday they gave me a large fried ice cream dessert, a glass of Prosecco and a $20 gift card!! We will absolutely be back. Highly recommend!

Went back over the weekend and again last night, and the food was still amazing. The service was great and we never felt ignored. The chef even remembered us from previous trips. The decor is modern, food is great, and the service was stellar. I would keep recommending this place to everyone.

Cute but misleading and inauthentic. The restaurant is well decorated, but based on my experience, I shall not be returning. I was very excited to order off the lunch menu only to be told that the lunch menu does not apply on Sundays and I would have to order off the dinner menu (though there was no note of that anywhere on the menu). When I placed my order, our Chinese server had a difficult time understanding me and I had to point to what I wanted. She had difficulty understanding my boyfriend's order as well. When I advised her that they should revise their menu to correct their lunch specials, she did not understand me and offered to give me soup and salad on the house. After our food arrived, she did not check on us again and I had to go to the hostess station to ask for our check. The hostess apologized, brought us our check, and brought us what she called "Japanese cookies" but were rice krispies treats with sprinkles. The food tasted fine, but the portions were small. I was hoping to like this restaurant, but I was quite disappointed.

Unfortunately we had a poor experience from beginning to end. We went to Arigato's often in Carrollwood before it closed and frequent Kobe's as well. We have an 8 year old daughter who loves the whole experience. So I googled to see if there was a different Japanese Steakhouse we have not taken her to yet. Kuchi popped up and has some pretty good reviews. We arrived about 5:45 to avoid the Friday crowd. At this time, there were only two tables taken and the rest of the restaurant was empty. The hostess immediately brought us in and sat us directly next to the beverage and service area. The worst table in the place. Then she proceeded to sit us as the end of the table with no one else waiting. I asked if we could move to the center and was immediately told no in case others showed up. We were promptly served water and then ignored for about 20 minutes. This is when I decided to call over the waitress and order a couple rolls of sushi because I figured they were going to make us sit until the table filled. About 15 minutes later while the sushi was being rolled the waitress asked when the rest of our party was going to arrive??? I told her that we were the only ones in our party and that we were ready to order. It is now 6:30. Within 2 or 3 minutes our sushi arrived. We took about 2 bites and they stacked our soup and salad in front of us at the same time. At 6:38 the fried rice was already on our plates and the meat was cooking. Mind you that we have not even started our salads. This is when I called over the manager. He kinda gave a small apology and said he would check his computer and see what he could do??? I told him that I was unhappy with the entire experience and that our hibachi chef was doing nothing except throwing food on our plates as quickly as possible. Not quite why we brought our daughter to this style restaurant. By 6:42 our complete meal was on our plates. Yes it was about 12 minutes from start to finish for the chef to make fried rice, noodles, fillet, shrimp, and lobster for 3. He cleans and leaves within 2 minutes. Since our hot food was getting cold, we handed the waitress our sushi, salad and soups so we could start our meal. The manager came back by we told him again how dissatisfied we were with everything and pointed to the fantastic chef at the other table who had kept his table entertained and served at a proper rate for about 45 minutes our more. He said yes he is really good and then proceeded to tell us how he normally doesn't talk about this but our chef's last day is going to be on Tuesday. So, I asked him why he thinks it is fair to us to give us the worst table in the joint, have us sit for nearly 45 minutes unattended, and then give us a sub par chef. He really didn't have much to say and didn't seem to care too much. Finally we begin eating our meal and actually the food was pretty good. Unfortunately our glasses were empty for most of the meal and we ran out of the little bit of sauce for our meals about half way through. Our waitress decided not to come by the entire time we were eating the meal. About 10 minutes after we finished eating she finally came back by. Our glasses do not even have an ice cube in them at this point. She never once asks if we would like a refill. She brings the bill with a 30% discount. I walked over and thanked the manager for the discount and informed him to look over at our drinks and lack of sauce and told him that we were never offered a refill the entire night. Got a nod with an possible slight look of concern. Then I walked over to the sushi chef and tipped him because he was the only person in the restaurant that we dealt who seemed to care about what he was doing. This was an unacceptable experience if the restaurant was completely overwhelmed, but there were only 3 tables for most of our time there. Many were showing up around 7. Hopefully they gave them the A team...for some reason we got the soon to be ex-employees. Funny...what I never heard from the manager...this type of thing rarely happens...please give us a try again...let me take care of your meal and truly want to apologize...here is a gift card for a free appetizer next time you come in...here is my card-ask for me next time and I'll make sure your experience is better...NOTHING!!! He could have potentially saved a customer, but he didn't. I spent $70 instead of $100 for a miserable Friday night dinner with the family. I don't care about the money. However, I do not think a restaurant should charge anything when they completely drop the ball from start to finish. From the manager to the attitude of the staff, they obviously do not care enough.

This place was good. Did the hibachi for 2 that came with shrimp, lobster, scallops, chicken, and filet mignon for $50. Everything was cooked very well and very fresh. The only minor complaint I have is too much ginger dressing on the salad. The service was good and attentive. The cook was great and engaging. The tempura ice cream was petty good as well. Decent sake as well. Going back to try the sushi side next time, the menu for sushi looked good as well.

First trip to this very nice Japanese restaurant, I was impressed with the look inside. From the outside it's a bit drab and some cheesy Christmas lights on the posts outside the front door. Inside is where they spent their time and money, very tasteful and we'll laid out. Very clean and all the staff was polite and very personable. We chose the Hibachi meal and was seated around a grill. I was only there with one other person and we got there a few minutes after they opened. We were pretty much the only ones in the place, though it didn't take long for others to start showing up. They seated another very couple with their child with us around the grill. The Hibachi chef was very good and put on a rather humorous show as he prepared a very good meal for all of us. I look forward to going back and trying the Sushi side and I will return for the Hibachi. The price is very reaonable, especially for amount of food you get. A dinner for two of chicken, filet mignon, scallops, shrimp and lobster along with all the trimmings including soup and salad. Vanilla ice cream at the end was a nice touch. The meal was less than $60. That can't be beat in my opinion.

This is the our 2nd time we eat dinner at Kuchi. Our first experience was great awesome service and great sushi. Now the second time sushi was awesome but service wasn't the best. Our server I believe her name was Christina(what the receipt said). I will say this working as a server for many years if a server brings your check before you finish your food or have not put your plate to the side it is rude. If I'm still eating, if there's still half of my dinner on my plate, and haven't even thought about desert do not bring me my check and then ask if I'm ready for her to take it before I finish my food. I understand if you are about to get off your shift, even though the restaurant is open for another hour, respectfully you have decided to be a server, your shift is over went your last table is done. PS. We were not her last table so STOP rushing me when I have food in my mouth.

My Wife took me to Kuchi for my birthday and we had a great dining experience. The food was top notch and the hospitality was 5 star! Everyone from the waitress to the chef and even the bus boy was great! I can't wait to go back and will definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Japanese food. Also, the Hibachi Chefs are very skilled and are very entertaining to watch!

  • Evan L.

Only reason why this is getting one star is for the decor and the bus boy. Service was terrible, the waitress were no where to be found, and the bus boy had to come take our drink orders after waiting for 15 minutes. This is understandable when a restaurant is busy but when there is only 2 other tables that's not acceptable at all. The sushi was terrible not to mention how long we had to wait for it. Ordered two rolls to test out the food and was glad we did. Both rolls had minimal flavor and it took about another 25 minutes to make. The rice tasted as if it was sitting out for days. Had zero taste and was clearly dried out. Was never asked how the sushi was, never asked if we needed more refills, or anything else. There is obviously lack of customer service. Only time the server or management was around was to give the bill and nothing else. Though this is a new establishment you'd think that they would have better service.

Wow! Had a really nice lunch here. I went to lunch with a lot of people from work. I had sushi sashimi combo. Fish was fresh, rice cooked perfectly, and presentation was spot on. Others spoke highly of the hibachi, and I really enjoyed the hibachi show. Atmosphere is nice and well decorated. We all left full and very satisfied. I highly recommend checking this new place out.

This place is really slow not only did we wait 25 minutes to be seated in an empty restaurant but it took 1 hour to get the food. Don't be fooled by the outside of this restaurant. The inside is absolutely gorgeous and pristine. I have not had the hibachi yet, but plan to because the sushi and overall experience at Kuchi has been fantastic in every way. The sushi is so delicious and most importantly fresh! The beauty of the plating is what makes the experience even more memorable. I have been here many times now and it has only been open a couple of months. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. I would urge everyone to come here. I have travelled to 17 countries and this is one of my favorite restaurants overall anywhere.

I went there for lunch on a weekday and only sampled the sushi. I arrived at 11:30 and was not greeted. In fact, I had to find someone to seat me. Since my friend and I were the first guest, I think they just weren't quite ready to start their day. The place was beautiful and once we got a waitress she was very friendly and well-informed on the menu. On the table was a holder for the fork and spoon and mine was covered in what looked like mustard. While the fork and spoon were clean, it still kind of grossed me out. I used chopsticks so it wasn't a huge deal. The menu had a lot of option and both me and my friend opted for the 2 roll lunch for ten dollars. It came with either soup OR salad. We both got the miso soup. Although the flavor of the soup was good, it came out barely warm. What was shocking was the size of the rolls. They were pretty small compared to other sushi places. Neither me or my friend are big people, but we looked at our plates and both said we were still going to be hungry. We had to go find a full bottle of soy sauce because the one on our table was empty. The quality of sushi was good and clearly fresh. I ordered the spicy tuna roll but it was not at all spicy, in fact it had no distinguishing flavor. I also got a tuna roll. It was very mild in flavor and fresh. I did like that the seaweed wrap on the tuna roll wasn't the typical chewy stuff that other places use. Neither roll had very much rice. Given how small the rolls were I was wishing there was more rice to fill me up a bit more. Overall, it is unlikely I will go back for the sushi because I found it to be a bit overpriced for how little you get (at least for lunch). I may be willing to give the hibachi side a try though because even though I left hungry, I felt like the food was fresh and the service was good.

Great food, management needs some help!!! We went last Friday night, just 2 of us and sat on the sushi side. Service was pretty slow and then I realized why. There was only 1 waitress serving the entire sushi side which has about 6-8 tables and a large sushi bar. All seats were full. The waitress was doing the absolute best she could under the circumstances but of course, service was lacking. It took several minutes to receive simple requests like a napkin or side of sauce and sometimes she forgot about it all together. Food was great so we returned the following Friday (last night) with some friends. We sat on hibachi side this time. Everything was pretty good until towards the end of our meal. As we were served each part of the meal it seemed like the portion size got smaller and smaller. The last two parts were noodles and vegetables. Noodles portion was very small. I would say it was a quarter of what you get at Kobe's. Then came the vegetables. I'm not sure about the rest of the people on the other side of us, but our vegetables were almost non existent. My 2 friends both ordered an extra side of veggies for $4 each in additon to what comes with the meal. I would say they got a normal portion that should already come with the meal. Then my friend to the left of me received about 4 pcs of veggies. 4 PIECES! After the tiny noodles portion and then this, we were very unhappy. The chef had to have known he screwed something up, but he went on like nothing happened. There are no managers walking around talking to customers and checking if the meal was ok. Food is very good, but they just don't have it all together. They spent a lot of time and money on the beautiful decorations but it seems like customer service is not a concern. Step it up kuchi!!! We would love to return but we are fearful.

Absolutely delicious hibachi! Everything was beautiful and top notch on the inside. Excellent service. We had the hot sake which was great and the chicken and shrimp hibachi. Our chef was entertaining and the managers stopped by to make sure everything was good... which it was. We will definitely be back!

A friend and I brought our kids for lunch to enjoy so.e hibachi and a show. Let's start with the bad: our chef did not seem thrilled to be there. He didn't smile once and almost seemed to robotically maneuver through cooking on the hibachi grill. The place was completely empty on a Saturday afternoon aside from one other family. I thought that was a bit strange. For the good: the food was pretty good. Not too salty which has been a complaint of mine at other hibachi restaurants. The owner (I think) came out at the end of our meal to speak with us and ensured us that all of the food is organic and fresh and that we should eat it a few times a week. Not sure if I believe her but she was nice enough! I would recommend that you try this place if you just want a good meal- don't expect the exciting dinner show that some places offer.

We have been trying out all sushi places and in the area and we have a few we like. Went here today and found one we LOVE! The place is beautiful and we were excited to see they have a hibachi area too. We had the sushi today and it was the best sushi with the cheapest prices at lunch. We will be going there from now on. Glad we saw the great reviews on here and decided to try. Great location away from the main traffic areas. The staff we was very nice and my 18 month old loved the water features inside. I loved that the rolls weren't all rice too.
