This is the place I would go to if I am craving for a gelato in Tampa. I always get the Bacio flavor!! I LOVE the chocolate hazelnut taste. The other gelato flavors they offer are also delicious. Great place to satisfy your sweet tooth while shopping at the International Mall.

I wanted to like this place, but ultimately I was underwhelmed. I give them credit for using fresh products, so when they run out, they are out. But from a taste standpoint it was more like regular American ice cream and definitely colder than what one would expect for Italian gelato. The store itself lacks meaningful indoor space, so if you plan to stroll around or sit outside it will work out just fine.

I first started coming here over 10 years ago when I worked in one of the office buildings by International Plaza. It's been able to survive for so long because it's the best gelato in the Tampa area (including Paciugo). My most recent visit was Sunday afternoon after walking around the mall. After trying about 4-5 samples, I decided on getting bacio (chocolate hazelnut), pistacchio and mango. With a medium size you get 3 scoops for $5+. More than enough for one person (should've just got a small). First let me tell you that the sample I had of the lemon sorbet was probably the strongest flavor but not sour like I expected. It was really, really, really good. But I went with mango, which had a lighter flavor but it was equally as awesome and I thought would pair better with the bacio and pistacchio. To my surprise, I enjoyed the mango the most. The other flavors were great and may have been my favorites on another day but the star of the show that Sunday afternoon was Mango. So I recommend the lemon and mango sorbets, especially if you are lactose-intolerant. Bonus: gelato has less fat, calories and carbs than ice cream if that's something that's important to you. The texture of all of the flavors were incredible. Very smooth and creamy. You should be able to tell by looking at gelato whether or not it has the right consistency. Gelato should be served at a warmer temperature than ice cream. So you can tell at Gelateria del Duomo that they do it right because it doesn't look like ice cream. It has a looser texture and is denser. The employees were nice and the place is clean. There are bar stools in the inside and outdoor tables on the outside so you can people watching on Bay Street. Tip: If you want a coffee, avoid going to the Starbucks in the mall, where there is always a line of 10+ people and get coffee here instead. The prices are better too.

YUM. Like really yum, like you're almost at Italy's level of Gelato yum. I am a huge (HUGE) ice-cream buff, and it is so rare to find gelato as authentic as that overseas. However, I was so pleasantly surprised by Gelateria del Duomo! The flavors are incredibly true to taste--they're smooth, creamy (without being too heavy), the taste is bold and natural..just an overall delicious treat. I ordered the small portion of nutella and fruit of the forest. The decadent chocolate combined with the mixed berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries) not only deliciously paired, but also provided a sweet and almost slightly tart mix. Definitely try this spot out!

I didn't even know this place existed, and then I had to kill some time before picking up a friend at the airport. Much to my chagrin, I decided to pop in and try their fare. The lady behind the counter offered me a couple of samples of the flavours and I settled on the Cafe and the rich Chocolate. Dear God! they were so good! Rich and creamy on the tongue with so much depth and flavour! I also ordered an espresso, which was drawn perfectly. I will be back!

And then there was this place.......*sighs* My fellow Yelpers have been raving about the must-try gelato flavors at Gelateria del Duomo in the Bay Street section of International Plaza. This small shop is located directly opposite the escalators carrying you down into the underground parking garage. It's tucked around the corner, next to the Earl of Sandwich, and behind the outdoor market stalls. There's no seating inside, so you either sit at one of their covered tables on the patio, or you wander around Bay Street with your cup of gelato. At first glance, the store is reminiscent of a European gelato shop, with lots of flavors hidden behind the glass, and a very nice lady offering you some samples and guiding you through your choices. The shop is small and clean, and there are lots of delightful-looking semi-frozen treats eagerly awaiting their chance to grace your palate. I dragged out my trusty Culinary Institute of America reference books when I got home, to be sure that I correctly explained the differences between American ice cream and Italian gelato. Ice cream legally has a minimum of 10 percent fat, whereas gelato is made with a greater proportion of whole milk to cream, so it contains more like five to seven percent fat. Since there's not as much fat in gelato, it doesn't coat the mouth in the same way. So the flavors are more intense. Gelato is churned at a slower speed than ice cream, so it's denser because not as much air is whipped into the mixture. (Gelato contains about 25 to 30 percent air, while ice cream can contain as much as 50 percent air). Finally, while ice cream is typically served frozen, gelato is typically stored and served at a slightly warmer temperature, so it's not quite completely frozen. OK, so that's the textbook definition, but how did it taste, you might be asking? Well, to be honest, it did not live up to my expectations. I was planning on an intense burst of flavor and a creamy "mouth-feel" (sorry, culinary term). Perhaps it was the flavor that I ordered (Cherrymania), perhaps it was the warm humid day, perhaps the stars did not align in the night sky......whatever? I wasn't happy with the taste, and I dumped the single serving cup after a few bites. The gelato left a nasty metallic after-taste (coppery) in my mouth for hours afterwards, and that cannot be good. Despite the fact that I like gelato, I won't be back to this store, but I do hope that you have a more pleasant experience.

I don't mind driving to International Plaza for some of this gelato. No other gelato shop I've been to has had such a large variety of flavors that actually HAVE flavor. What a concept! Those flavors run the gamut from tart and fruity to dark and chocolaty, with a variety of ways to eat them. I went for the three scoop sundae, which is usually pretty pricey, but I had a Living Social deal and wanted to splurge. My three flavor choices were tiramisu, amaretto, and salted caramel. All three were equally divine, but for a high-priced sundae I expected a bigger portion size. They looked like kiddie scoops, albeit perfectly plated ones. The presentation was gorgeous. My only other complaint is the seating. They have room to sit inside, but not much of it. I was pretty much squished between my husband and a lady stranger who was not the friendly type. It was too close for comfort and my personal bubble was popped. The service is stellar, though. The girls who put our sundaes together were very sweet and hospitable. I didn't feel like I was the 100th person they'd served that day; I felt like the first. As it stands, I am still a fan of Gelateria del Duomo, but next time I am only getting one scoop and I'll be sitting outside. It's a compromise I'm willing to make for some great gelato.

After multiple stops at the Gelateria del Duomo in International Plaza I have decided that this is one of my least favorite gelato spots in Tampa. This small gelato shop carries about 20 different flavors of milk-based and fruit-based flavored gelatos. I've sampled many of the flavors here and all of the gelato at Gelateria del Duomo has a funny aftertaste in my opinion. My belief is that this gelato shop is either storing their gelato at a colder temperature than recommended or they are using artificial fruit flavoring in their fruit-based gelatos. Personally I think the gelato is better at Datz Dough and Le Macaroon.

I am baffled how somebody could give this place a bad review, it was absolutely fantastic. I just got done eating a big old bowl of ice cream and am out here just basking in their complete amazingness. I've had ice creams all across the country, and one thing I've learned is it's tough to screw it up. This place is a good job and had some pretty awesome flavors!

It's ok. The best is in St. Pete!! But the staff is nice, location is in the international Mall.

Amazing gelato at slightly steep prices. The woman behind the counter was very friendly, making recommendations and allowing us as many samples as we wanted. I got a caramel crunch and some kind of biscotti flavor... both were so delicious. The place is tiny and there is no inside seating.... which meant that I had to eat my gelato outside as fast as possible so it didn't melt. If there was a good place to park inside, I'd give it five stars. No negatives for the frosty treats. Just delicious gelato!

The amaretto and tiramisu were hit and miss with the family, half thought it didn't taste natural, all I had was a small spoon, so for me it was tasty. Our favorites are pistachio or hazelnut and we love that they have a frequent customer card.

Decent gelato. Not the best I've had by far. A good selection of flavors ranging from fruit based to chocolate and of course, the standard Bacio (chocolate hazelnut). I've been many times but this was the first time in the last few years. Maybe their product went downhill or maybe my expectations got higher? Either way, I was not impressed with my stracciatella (chocolate chip) and cookie crumb and caramel. There was not enough chocolate in the chocolate chip and the gelato in both was just so-so. Wish I had better things to say. I really love gelato. Was just not impressed on my most recent visit. Will update if things improve on future visits although I am not really inclined to take one now. As we left, I found myself wishing I'd gone to Haagen-Daaz inside the mall. BTW- It was $7 for a large. The large is big but $7 still seems steep.

This place is kind of tucked away. I've walked past it so many times, but I decided to try it yesterday. It had so many flavors, and many of them were unique flavors you wouldn't find at another ice cream shop. This is real gelato. I got the salted caramel flavor, which can be really good or a huge disappointment. It was absolutely delicious. I got a small, and i'm glad I did. The woman behind the counter piled the gelato on top. Not bad for just short of five bucks. I love this little place. I will definitely be going back next time i'm at international plaza.

Well, I've never been to Italy so I can't compare to some other fabulous authentic gelateria, but I know this one tastes good. My favorites are pistachio, hazelnut and the mixed berry. It's always nice to enjoy on a hot Florida day, which happens to be 9 months out of the year.

  • Brendan C.

This place is the best Gelato I've had in Tampa. Granted there's not that many Gelato places and more yogurtology's in Tampa than anything. They have a great election of flavors, a lot of chocolate selections. The portions they give even at the small size are pretty huge. For a hot humid day in Tampa, especially after a day of shopping at the International Plaza, you can always count on going to Gelateria del Duomo for good gelato. Out of all the frozen desserts in the mall this is probably the best place. There's usually not a line, I don't have any other complaints. I don't think this is the best Gelato I've ever had but it's definitely one of the better ones.

Great gelato! TERRIBLE SERVICE! At least the time I went (Sunday around 4pm). There were 2 girls working and neither of them smiled to any of my 5 friends or me. We obviously don't know Italian or what the names of the flavors mean. When asked, they replied with attitude. I thought it might have just been me thinking they weren't being courteous, but all my friends after me came out with the same reaction. So don't go on Sunday at 4pm!

  • Coty S.

This shop is very small with no indoor seating. The same person is always working there and she is super fast. So fast in fact that it borders on being rude at times. I really like any of their chocolate or nuts flavors here, pistachio being my favorite. I do not recommend the fruit flavors. While I love fruit, their flavors are boring to me, I find myself throwing away the cup after a few bites and not being able to finish even the small size. The only strong flavor that I have tasted here is the lemon. Everything else is fairly smooth. I really wish that they had more interesting flavors.

OMG! I discovered this place while visiting the International Plaza & Bay Street Mall. They have THE BEST pistachio gelato I have ever tasted in the U.S. It is AMAZING!!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. They also have really good macaroons. It's a little pricey but remember...you're paying for quality. :)

  • Martic R.

I agree with other reviews that If you have had Gelato outside the US this place doesn't compare but I do think it's the best of what we got here. I have tried the hazelnut and tasted a few other flavors but it's Chocolate all the way for me!! It's so smooth and definitely what my sweet tooth needs. It's a small location located outside on baystreet and could be easily missed if not looking for it. I love that I can enjoy my gelato outside on a nice FL weather day.

This place is the second best Italian gelato after Paciugo in downtown St. Pete. It is very small and located outside of International Plaza along with all the restaurants such as Cheesecake factory and Brio. There are barely any seating inside or outside, and the menu is not as extensive as Paciugo but still pretty good! The small cup is $5. Their small cup is plenty for me. Salted caramel is very good but it is richer than other ones...it is hard to eat the whole thing without a drink. On the other hand strawberry chocolate, despite the sound of the name, got very light taste. They were both great! If you like Pistachio, you have to order it at this place. It is amazing. I so would choose this place over Hargendats at International Plaza any time.

This is by far one of the most authentic gelato shops I have been to outside of Italy! The flavor selection was excellent and everything in the case was fresh. I tasted the Nutella and Bacio flavors. Both were delicious!

  • Katrina P.

I'm a known frozen yogurt addict but do love gelato! The galeteria is quaint & has a great variety of flavors! My favorites being amaretto & banana. Fresh, natural ingredients, yum! With no buttermilk like icecream, the gelato is a great sweet treat!

  • Jessica J.

AMAZING! the most delicious frozen dessert i've ever had. You don't even need any toppings. I had the tiramisu and coconut (which had toasted coconut on top..incredible). You can put two flavors in one cup and they will let you sample. My dad had some kind of fruit tart thing and said it didn't taste super fresh, but still good. And had one of those "sundaes" in a glass that was 10 bucks, and good but not worth the money. So just keep it simple and get the gelato and you won't be disappointed! A small portion is enough to satisfy and 4-5 bucks really isn't bad considering the amazing quality. We are planning on going back tomorrow. And this may sound really gross but every time I burp I get excited cuz I can taste the tiramisu again! ------------- Went back two days later. There were many flavors that had been switched out so they must rotate flavors frequently. The woman behind the counter was clearly Italian so you know this is authentic stuff!! She was very very nice and let us try several things. Thanks again Gelateria!

I just ordered a flavor without trying it, which might be my fault. I had the milk caramel flavor. It was good, but I've had much better gelatos elsewhere. This one had a very fatty mouthfeel, and was kinda too sweet. But, I definently would try it again- there are many wonderful looking ones to try.

This is a true unknown gem of Tampa! I love this place. They make the gelato EVERYDAY fresh...with fresh ingredients. They have a very large assortment of flavors for those who can't do lactose too! It's too bad they're not in the food court. Hagen Das gets a lot of business in there because it's not off the beaten path like this place. You do have to search to find it. I'm sure there are folks who shop at this mall all the time (Int'l Plaza) and don't know this place exists. Yes, the prices are high...but this is the real deal here too. Real FRESH Gelato. Not something that's in a tub back in the freezer that was made 4 weeks ago in a factory in another city. I don't mind paying for quality and this is quality! Grab a medium...get two flavors and walk around the mall people watching. I recommend Fruit of the Forest & Limon. Best combo ever!

I really wish they had one by the tri-state area. This was our last stop before returning to NJ from my best friends beautiful wedding. I'm obsessed w/ gelato... and haven't come close to something so gooooood since my trip to Europe. Again, I really really wish they had one close by.

Pretty much the best gelato in the Bay area. They always have creative and traditional flavors on hand with beautiful presentations and they deliver everytime on flavor. This last visit I enjoyed the fruits of the forrest which is a great blend of berries in a smooth creamy base. Nice bits of berries were specked throughout to let you know you were getting the real deal.

Great gelato place with plenty of flavors to choose from. I recommend trying the pistachio! It is very fragrant, flavorful, fantastic!

Yummy! Yummy! I got a scoop of the tiramisu and the pistachio. They have so many flavors including sorbets. Conveniently located in the International Plaza, but no indoor seating.

  • Dorisfloris g.

This gelato rates right up there with the gelato I have had in Chicago and New York. The fruity flavors are my favorite, creamy but not heavy. The mixed berry is insanely good! I love the mango, pineapple, coconut, blood orange, lemon...and whatever else I'm forgetting. It's the only place in the Tampa area I get gelato. Sadly there's a million frozen yogurt places, but not many places for gelato. Thankfully, this place is awesome and I don't need another option.

  • Donna B.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Fell in love with the pistachio gelato from the first bite. My only complaint, I have a hard time trying other flavors because I am oh so addicted to the pistachio! Great gelato, great location, great prices. They even allow you to sample various flavors before buying them!

This place is freaking AAAAmazing. This is the US...not Italy. So the comparison is not fair. They have a big selection and most are delicious. The almond flavor is creamy vanilla with what tastes like Nutella spread throughout. They have really good waffle cones. The employees are so sweet. This place is amazing :)

  • Carlos H.

Wow my friends brought me here one day when we were shopping at the International Mall and it was so delicious, maybe the best I have ever had before! I had such a hard time picking what flavor to have because every sample I had tasted magnificent. I ended up having strawberry and chocolate on top of hazelnut and the mix went perfect. The cone was also pretty good. The lady working there was friendly enough and although the prices certainly are a little high, you can't beat that taste. I hope to try every flavor little by little. Who knows how many times I have been to the International Plaza and walked by this place without knowing what I was passing up. Brandon needs to pickup one of these up right away!

  • Ben O.

Pricey ($4 for a small), but when you taste, you'll see why. Limone (lemon) exploded in my mouth like a tart little suicide bomber. It reminded me of the best frozen key lime pie I've ever had, and that was in Key West. I licked my wife's coconut, but that wasn't nearly as flavorful. Perhaps I'd have said otherwise if my taste buds hadn't already been blessedly nuked by the lemon. Wheelchair-accessible? Barely. The space between the gelato case and the support pillar is so narrow that you might want to hand your money over the counter instead of trying to squeeze back into the area with the cash register. Better yet, ask them to bring it out to you outside the door, unless you're a whiz at opening doors and wheeling through while holding a cone. Oh, and if you ever meet my wife, don't tell her I told you about licking her coconut...

Gelato yum!! One of Italian's best creations! I got a cup of the hazelnut and dark chocolate and it was delicious! It was flavorful and creamy. Definitely a good place to go to get your sweet tooth fix. ^_~

It's very authentic! The gelato is soooo good and refreshing. The last time I went I had watermelon and passion fruit. I got the smallest size but they always overfill the cup, so you get a good sized portion.

  • Shauna E.

I've been working across Bay Street from this shop for years. LOVE their pineapple gelato as well as their hazelnut "nutella" gelato. They also serve espresso drinks and specialty desserts. A little pricy, but if you have a group, do the togo box. It's $14 for 3 flavors and you get a HUGE amount of gelato to share. This place is a great finish to any of the wonderful meals you might have at Bay Street.

  • Cat M.

I have stopped here on a handful occasions and always enjoy it. This trip was a small cup (which is relatively large) with half stracciatella and half tiramisu. Both have a great flavor and the cup was quickly scooped clean. In the past I've liked the creme brule flavor too but didn't particularly love the nutella or any of the fruit flavors.

    (4)
  • Courtney G.

Just straight sexy place with the best gelato around. Great and very strong coffee too. Hanging out on Bay Street with some powerful coffee would do you well.

Absolutely delicious gelato! Their flavor selection is always diverse, and the quality is wonderful. My favorite flavors = tiramisu and stracciatella.

I had a scoop of the bacio (hazelnut & chocolate) and a scoop of the stracietella. both were really good. yes, pricey but I have never seen cheap gelato. good selection, outdoor seating but it's not that difficult to bring it to the food court or under the fanned seating area.
