I have been meaning to check out the Dosa Hut for months since I live less than 5 minutes away and after my second visit all I can say is shame on me for not making it there earlier. Dosa Hut is in a shopping center on Hillbourogh Ave where the Beef o' Brady's was close to the Neighborhood Walmart. The staff is friendly and the shop is clean both a plus. The samosas are excellent! I got some for my sister and I and we love them. They are served with a spicy green sauce or sweet and sour chutney both very good. Im looking foward to trying more things on the menu.

This place is a hidden gem in a mostly deserted strip mall. Rumor has it that the owner used to cook for the local temple and cooks traditional south Indian food. This is some of the most authentic food in TBA, and worth every penny. The prices are actually very modest. It seems that they keep their cost low by using disposable serving dishes and no table service. At the end of the day, it's not needed because the food is that good. The buffet has a wide number of dishes that all taste very different, but all south Indian. It's all vegetarian and possibly vegan. The only probably with their buffet is that they always run out of bread, which is every buffet ever. If you love this place, come on Wednesday nights for UNLIMITED DOSAS! For $9.99, you can order however many Dosas that you want from their selected menu. My favorite is Mysore Masala by far, but everything is delicious. We have gotten their mixed masala snacks and they are delicious. They taste a little different every time, but it's like what Indian mom's make their families. So delicious as a snack.

Came here on a weekend as we were craving Indian food. A little confusing when you walk in because your not really greeted by a hostess or anything and its kind of quiet inside as there was not music or TVs playing. Our entire experience was pretty much just find a seat, go to the fixings bar, get your food then pay at the end. I don't think anyone even came to our table, checked on us or even talked to us. So we just helped ourselves to the fixings bar, got our food, ate, drank the water they provided in the coolers, paid, then left. The food though was not bad. There is a waiter who just keeps replenishing the items when they get low on the fixings bar and a scramble to get the hot fresh dosas as soon as there ready. Filled with potato's, they had a very nice tasty crisp and I easily had about 4 of these. My favorite was the tamarind sauce when paired with the dosa made a great meal. They also had other bread like items that you can dip with other Curry's and sauces they had at the fixings bar but I had no idea what I was eating at all because there really was no one to ask. Oh and if you are looking for any type of meat here your out of luck. Its a veggie place only

The food seemed very authentic. Good flavors and a lot of food for the price. Not a five star rating because the place lacks authentic atmosphere. $10 credit card minimum

Surprisingly, Dosahut is turning into one of my go-to lunch restaurants in Tampa. It's cheap and every order comes with as much delicious sambarr soup as you can handle. Consider me sold! I wish I could say exactly what type of dosa I've ordered the two times I've been here but I can't due to my friend ordering for me everytime. One day I got the flaky crust with potato in the middle and today I got the soft Spring dosa with vegetables on top. Both were equally good and the two sauces puts it over the edge. I've always liked Indian fusion type but this is authentic, real South-Indian food that will have you begging for more. Great for vegetarians and vegans because very few menu items have dairy, cheese, eggs or meat in them.

Excellent lunch buffet.! Well priced and all the foods are well prepared with exquisite flavors. The location is an old Beef O Brady so they still have shamrocks on the wall. But this is a family run place, Literally mom and pop and a cousin working the kitchen. Decent folks and a great value, I'll be baçk.

Very nice place with alot of room. I ordered the buffet and a diet come for 10 bucks. The plateware is disposable and the buffet is all vegan. Very good flavors and some dishes that had good spice. Be prepared to do your homework on the food. If you know nothing about indian food no one will explain what stuff is. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a different place other than your normal run a of the mill indian place. Would be 5 stars if the buffet was stocked alittle better had to ask for fresh bread because some was stuck to the bottom.

You feel like having south Indian authentic food. I'm sure after visiting this place you feel that you don't missed Indian food.

Just really good food overall in addition to the amazing dosa. The samosas and the lassi are amazing as well. Visit this place!

At last there is a decent Indian restaurant choice amongst the other pathetic options. I always rate the caliber of a South Indian restaurant by the quality of their Idlis and Dosa Huts Idlis are pretty good. I have now had the opportunity to order from the ala carte menu and try the buffet. Everything I have had there has been good. Great prices too. Crisp dosas

I love everything I've eaten at the Dosa Hut. I always buy a lot more than I can eat because everything is so good. The menu is limited, but they've added a buffet that I haven't tried yet.

We read the reviews n they were accurate. The South Indian food was excellent. The green chutney is to kill for. Also the restaurant is more of the self service type. The one difference we noticed is that the management is making more of an effort to interact with the customers. The owner was keen to know how the food and the experience was and if there was anything that they could work on. They are not there yet, but they are making an awesome effort. I will definitely go back.

When I walked in the place was empty (11:30 a.m. on a Tuesday). I eventually sat down and helped myself to water, buffet and plastic ware. Food was very good, it is definitely not American-ized. I had some chana dish, potatos and some Dosa Masalas that were great. I would have given the place a 5 but none of the 4 people working in the restaurant came to the table, cleared off my first plate or asked me how anything was. When I went up to the register, the woman didn't even say how much it was. I gave her a $10 and then received change. A note to the owners: Customers are your business, say hello, interact with them. A little smile and friendliness will go a long way - especially if you are a new business starting out in a very empty strip mall.

We just tried the restaurant. Its location made us over look it for some time. We actually found it through yelp! What a treasure.. There are so few good Indian ( indeed any Asian) restaurants in this neck of the woods, that this is a really welcome addition. I wasn't familiar with dosas but these were quite good. The filling can be hit or not quite a hit but the dosas are very well prepared as are the sauces. My gluten free vegetarian wife was likewise taken with the food. Will become a go-to place for us. Service and setting were also good. Prices are excellent. I hope these folks make it ...,- this stretch of the highway is not terribly kind to specialty restaurants like this having let go of a very good Peruvian and middle Eastern one. Urge you to try it out and make this place work out. we can use this here.

Good dosa. Sambar and Chutney need some improvements. Decor is nothing fancy, very mediocre. Open storage by the main counter not very welcoming. Owner is trying his best to satisfy all customers. For the price and value I would come again!

Good place for typical dosa lovers .It has just been a week that it started and the place is just rocking ..We were a group of 7 friends and we tried out different types of dosas and idly ..Mysore Masala dosa was the best ..Overall it was a good experience.

Was the best vegetarian food I ever had in entire Florida. I lived in St. Petes for over an year & been to many places in Florida. Was sick & tired of not so great south Indian veggie food until I found this wonderful place. Prices are very reasonable & staff is very friendly too. Highly recommended.

Very nice homely south indian food place. Excellent dosas, chutney and sambar. Not a fancy restaurant but tasty food.

Trust me the food is just awesome. If you only want some fancy decor or fancy services do not go there but if you want to eat some real good south indian food this is the place. The food has such a homely feel to it and it serves the best chutneys and dosa. i AM A foodie and always exploring the best of food everywhere. Been to 36 states in USA and this was the best dosa, chutney and sambhar in America. The owner is so much friendly and nice to his guests. My experience is different from everyone because i ate food even without paying money last night. Me and my wife went to this place randomly for the first time and I forgot my purse at home. My wife never carries her when she is with me on dinner.. and what.. we realised it after reaching the place. I asked them to prepare the order and I will grab the purse within 10 mins while then. I was surprised when the owner asked me to eat the food and do not worry about the money. he asked me to pay anytime i go again there. He insisted me to have food and said. "how could I deny you food at my place?". Wonderful people... They asked us about food, came in betweeen three times while we were having meal to ask us if we need something. wHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT. And the rest, service was good, its like a self service facility. This is a family run restaurant . I was also surprised by looking at prices. we had two dosas, two samosas and a mithai.. all in 17 dollars. I have eaten so much bad food paying hefty prices in past. This one is like the best in no cost. In just one visit I am impressed and will go there again and again.

I am a visitor to Tampa, FL. One of my relatives suggested this place. So, I checked it out. The place is located in an empty mall on W Hillsborough Ave. I walked in on a sunday afternoon at around 1:30 p.m. It's really spacious and well spread out. I walk up to the front desk, and was asked to help myself to the lunch buffet. They have got plastic ware, which I feel is a wonderful option. The buffet had the main course and the chutney counter. I personally loved the coconut chutney. In the main course, I had masala dosas, set dosas, chana, bisi bele bath( best dish) to name a few. This probably has the best south indian food. In desserts, they had gulab jamun and mysorepak. The owner Mr. Ramprasad, came up to my table and inquired about the food, and if I had any suggestions to improve the place. The management is very friendly and they value your feedback. I would love to go back!!

So delicious!! We loved the lunch buffet and will certainly be back! The price is right. The magi lassi is great. Only reason they aren't getting 5 stars is because everything is served on styrofoam. I'd prefer an actual plate. Won't stop me from coming back, though!

  • Sarah B.

The food was 5 stars, but the service needs some work. The owner/manager actually walked away in the middle of taking our order to deliver food to a table. Food was just plopped down on the table with no explanation of the condiments or even an "enjoy your meal". And instead of standing around, he should at least come to the table to ask how the food was. The restaurant wasn't exactly hopping while we were in there, so good service is especially important.

This may very well be the type of place that everyone else says it is. This may be a wonderful Indian place to go to. I'll never know. Wife and I arrived at about 6:30pm and the placed was deserted. Another couple just beat us to the door so now there were four of us in this lonely restaurant. The phone was ringing when we entered but there was nobody behind the counter to answer it. And on it rang. And on we waited. After a great long while a woman finally appeared and answered the phone. She barely acknowledged us and had a great long conversation with somebody on the other side. She began to take their order and explain many of the food items. So here are four living, breathing customers in this great big lonely restaurant ready to be seated and order some food and she's fussing with somebody on the phone who may or may not be placing an order. After 10 minutes of standing there and staring at her (and probably a little bit longer than that) my wife and I couldn't take it anymore and we walked out. If this is how you treat your customers when they're right in front of your face, I don't want to know how you're treating them when you're behind the wall in the kitchen where I can't see you. Very bad business move. You lost two customers and earned a bad review on Yelp.

The food is really good. Once you are inside the restaurant you feel like you are in India. The spice in the food has not been mellowed down, so you get a really authentic south-Indian taste.

Advice to owner: "Never offer anything that you cannot deliver." You may wonder why I have given 5 star for this restaurant with such a comment. This place is South Indian Vegetarian Family Restaurant and it does best in that. The problem with this place is the owner does not know where to concentrate and lack of experience in restaurant business. Many Indian Restaurants spoil their name only because they provide both South and North Indian food under one roof and the chef will be either North or South. Only few Indian Restaurants in US have both cuisines and chef for them. So please remove all North Indian food and concentrate only on South India. There are plenty of South India Vegetarian food that can be added to menu. Ambiance/Arrangement: This place expects the customer to stop by the counter, order the food and take all the sides to the table. Also the customer is expected to clean the plates. This model does not work for Indian restaurants. Advice to customers: Order only South India food, you will never get disappointed. If you come to this place and order anything other than South Indian food and expect to be good, then it is your problem.

If you never had a Dosa, either had I. Took it home and what a treat. It's the best $4 adventure in town. Get the potato filled, one or two, have fun without going to India. Bet you will go back again. Watch out for the nuclear-toxic sauce.

We were on vacation in florida and had to leave from tampa airport. we were very tired of the bad american food so we went to this place and had a great lunch buffet. The nice guy explained everything to us and all the indian people were very nice and smiling to us. Very aithentic place. Spicy and good!

We went to the counter to order and they told us after waiting in line for five min that there is a person ahead of us to order and that we would have to wait. It was very confusing. Then, we went to sit down and waited ten minutes without anyone coming to take our order. Went again to the counter and waited another five min to be told that someone will come to the table. Again, no one came after waiting another ten min and we left. There was only one person at the counter who seemed very confused and annoyed. Very poor service... Would not recommend this to anyone.

I am giving this restaurant two stars as i have not tasted the food yet. A week or so back my wife and i decided to visit the Dosa Hut. I was really looking forward to eating the food as All veg Indian food is far less available in our area. I read the menu online and was excited. We show up at the restaurant and walk up and order. My wife was going to get a Dosa and i wanted the curry and parata. The nice person working told me no curry. The man that makes them isn't here. I said ok i will have the Pav Bhaji and the little boy says, we have no rolls and the man is gone. So, i am getting annoyed because drove far to get here. I notice on the wall there are all these menu items blacked out as in not available. Disappointed we left. It is sad that a new promising restaurant is failing before it even starts. It is wrong to put up a menu online and not amend it with the changes. Please offer what you intended like naan, poori and paratha. Please offer the curry whenever your restaurant is open. I bet the food is very good, but if its not available how will anyone know! You put so much time and effort into making a restaurant don't fail on day one!
