Horrible experience. While in town for a conference, we had an hour break for lunch and the Marriott was right across the street so it made sense to get a quick lunch here. We had to ask about seating, and were told that no waitstaff worked the (huge) outdoor seating area and to order at the bar. We did, 2 salads and 2 sandwiches. 45 minutes later the sandwiches came, cold with cold, greasy fries. And still no salads. One of our group was presenting and had to leave without lunch at all. The manager was decent enough to comp it all, but it is safe to say that I will not be attempting to eat here again. I am honestly surprised by the experience, as they blamed it on being busy. However, they are one of the very few dining options within an easy walk of the Tampa Convention Center, so I find it hard to believe that they don't know how to manage a crowd. Very disappointing.

Pulled pork sandwich is great! During the game beer is $10 for 5.

Let's agree that since Champions is in the Marriott Waterside Hotel, the prices are a bit higher. Because of this, believe that the staff tries very hard to make their customers happy. I tried the Bun-less Burger with ice tea and it came to $18.46. My plate was full of generous servings of crisp fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomato, onion, carrot sticks, cucumbers, and celery), a hamburger, goat cheese, two slices of bacon, and Ranch dressing. It's a Sport's Bar atmosphere with lots of big screen TVs and a wide choice of seating i.e., booth, table, high table, bar seating, and even stadium seating in front of a huge TV screen (must be about 8 feet high).

I'm all for 'sports food' but the chic tenders were old frozen hunks with a lot of breading and no flavor. They're a pass. Next night had the wings - MUCH BETTER. Take wings over all else.

Great sports bar! Every seat in the house had a view of at least one TV and two of them are big enough to be movie screens! They've got eating areas, drinking areas and even a playing area with pool tables, dart board and an air hockey table. This looks like it would be a fun place to be on game day. On top of the great ambiance, it has very good food. It's bar fare with a few extra twists (the mahi mahi sandwich was very good!). The portions were good for the price and the food was well cooked. The desserts were pretty good too but over priced.

All I have to ask is WHY nobody told me how good the food at Marriot/Champions was the first day I got there? I found out my last day, and although I can only speak for the Wings and Quesadillas, the fact that the wings were literally some of the best wings ive had in a long time, and the quesadillas were stuffed with ALL the right toppings says a lot to me! Based on my limited experience, and really giving it 4 stars for the wings because I actually think they might be in my top 10 wing places of all time I would definitely stop in here as from the chatter I heard while eating and talking everything the place serves is A-OK, and when the staff eats the stuff its always a good sign!. Definitely check it out if your at the Marriot, you CANNOT be disappointed!

The food is actually pretty good for a hotel sports bar. Big TV at the bar and decent drink selection. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. accommodated substitutions without a problem on two lunch visits. Quick turn-around on the food as well.

Great atmosphere! Buzzing with activity and fun, with a great bar and ok food. This bar is located in our hotel the Riverfront at Marriott, which makes it very accessible. It took a little to long to get our drinks but it was very crowded so I guess it's ok. We ordered chocolate cake and it was tiny and it was mouse. Yuck! Oh well, it did have a great feel and we can drink and just walk to our room. Can't beat that.

It's probably because there isn't a game going on next door but this place is really odd..

A guy walks into a bar that looks like The Situation. He orders a caeser salad and all I can think is 'shame on you, sir, you are at a sports bar and resemble a reality show has been.' Behind me are a party of 3 who are with the wedding party set for later. A group of girls nearby order drinks and compliment each other's outfits. All of us have one thing in common: we came here to chill out and relax. That's what the atmosphere is here---laid back and ready to serve. I ordered a burger with cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce on a fresh roll and a side of waffle fries. Everything came out fast and just the same as when I ordered it EXCEPT the tomato. That baby was so large I think they only had the other half left. Good burger overall and the fries added even more satisfaction. The price was around $15. Bonus points: the bar has a tv screen as large as a movie theatre screen. Oh yeahhhh, that's how I wanna watch my sports. No server to block my vision...eye on the prize. As for the guy who ordered the caeser salad, he wound up ordering a quesadilla later. Ugh. Just stick to what you really want, they have a gym at the hotel so you can sweat it off later.

Pretty typical bar food, don't expect to be wowed by the taste or freshness but if it's what you're expecting you won't be disappointed. Really convenient to the arena so that's a plus. Funny but they seem to have trouble when an event is going on, considering their location I find that odd. Service was also average, the last two times I've been there my table was forgotten about.

Headed here with some friends before the hockey game, it is in the Marriott and convenient to the Tampa Bay Times Forum and Convention Center. It was packed and the wait was over an hour for 4 - ugh, we went to the lobby and it was also busy. We got drinks at the lobby bar and hovered until we found a table of people leaving. We were excited to learn we could order from the Champions menu from the lobby bar / lobby area - bonus! I had the turkey burger with cranberry chipotle mayo and sweet tater tots - yum. The mayo was sweet, but no chipotle flavor to me, still good though. The sweet tots were plentiful and tasty, I'd go back just for them. They also have good waffle fries and my boyfriend enjoyed the cheesesteak. The prices were not bad either. We did have to track down a server, but then the service was spot on and food came out quickly. Enjoy!

Had a turkey wrap and salad. Not too bad, typical sports bar fare. Salad could have been a little more substantial. I don't consider greens mix and 3 half grape tomatoes to be much. And the cucumber slices were practically see-through. The wrap was decent and everyone else's good looked good. Will have to try something different next time I'm there.

Decent bar/American food. Quickly served and relatively well attended. Nice screens for watching sports.

Stayed at the Marriott Waterside for a convention and with it being Sunday there wasn't a whole lot of places to eat in the early afternoon. Stopped in and saw that they were mildly busy and WAY understaffed. Maybe because it was Sunday, I don't know. Anyhoo, the service was slow but I don't really blame that on the waiter, more of a management issue IMO. The 2 guys with sport coats walking around directing the one waiter in our section who needs service bothered me. Food was mediocre, and high priced. I had the BLT Wrap which was filling, but that's about it. Bland and tasteless and loaded with Waffle Fries ala Chic Fil A. 3 people, 3 lunches and 1 soft drink $55.00. Champions filled the need at the time, that's about it.

This is a sports bar in the lobby of the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Tampa. I was a guest at the Embassy Suites right across the street. The bar in the ES (Trolley's) does not have DirecTV, so when my game (Dolphins vs Panthers) was blacked out on cable, I had to make a mad dash to another hotel to watch it. The service was fantastic. The food is delicious. The game was on, the Panthers won and it was a great Sunday. Also, they have an extensive menu, lots of room and probably about 100 TVs. This is the kind of place that you would normally expect to see as a standalone sportsbar. It's very impressive that they have this in the Marriott. If you are staying in the hotel, you have a great lobby bar to spend all of your company's money in!

  • Matthew T.

Probably the worse cuban I've had in my life. Basically a flavorless bit of mystery meat between cardboard. The Newcastle on tap did help. But what is with this end of town? There are the hotels and the convention center but why nothing interesting going on and only hotel food? Maybe they think the giantor TV's will distract you from the food.

  • Jeff P.

Honestly was only I town between trips but was told this restaurant was good - quite the contrary actually had to get up and walk out due to no service at all...same your time and money and go elsewhere!!

    (1)
  • Martin C.

Food is overpriced for what it is, service was great !! Probably would not go back, there are many better choices in the area !!

    (3)
  • JP A.

a last minute choice, the food met expectations and the service was quick.

    (3)
  • Shawn M.

Lots of tvs! Good sports bar atmosphere if you are staying in the hotel. The staff is very friendly and the food is okay. It's bar food. Since I did not enter and expect 5 star dining, it was a pleasurable experience. I had the wildly cheesy quesadillas which exceeded expectations. To give you an idea of expectations: I expected chilis or Applebee's, and the food was much better than both. Considering its on the river walk and there are less expensive places to get more it would not be my first choice, but if you are starving and want "safe" familiar food this is your place.

  • Ty H.

Do not sit in the Bar Area if you expect to be served. Here for opening weekend of the NFL season and sat at a hightop for 20 Minutes before anyone said a word to us. Begged the woman who brought us our menus for a beer she said she wasn't my server. ....send help!

    (1)
  • Andreas H.

Perhaps a bit overpriced, but the bartenders were pretty great and one gentleman in particular made me a stellar Manhattan. The wings were the best I've had in recent memory. The huge screen behind the monitor was great to watch the end of a NCAA basketball game, followed by the Heat getting crushed yet again. EXCELLENT! Add Golden Tee to the mix and I was a happy boy.

Tourists haven + sports = what the hell was I doing there? those things aside this place appears to be a solid lunch or casual dinner spot for the sports fan or bandwagon jumpers for the hot sport of the moment. I had the turkey reuben and not only was it huge but it was delicious. Service was sloooooow but again it's a tourist spot and tourists are usually taking it easy, I was not.

I gave a sports bar five stars...Yes I did boo! Let me tell you why. A few days ago, I was out front reading their menu and I noticed that they serve a Cuban sandwich and my mind went back to my meat eating days when I used to DEVOUR Cuban sandwiches in Miami. I walked in and asked a very nice young woman at the bar if I could alter that sandwich to include everything else that comes on it except the meat. She decided to go the extra mile and ask the chef to add a few veggies. I thought to myself, what a sweet girl for doing this for me. I asked for my sandwich to go because I had to go to work. Well when I arrived at work (directly across the street), I opened the container and ALL EYES WERE ON MY BEAUTIFUL SANDWICH! The chef made a masterpiece! She had carefully sliced Zucchini, Squash, Peppers, onions, mushrooms, and added lettuce, tomato, and Swiss cheese and pressed this sandwich to toasted perfection. The vegetables were at the perfect thickness and were grilled just right (not too soft or too firm). My sandwich was served with waffle fries. One of my coworkers tasted a piece of zucchini and was amazed at how delicious it was. Well I went back the next day and at this point, I felt like a nuisance but I was craving that amazing sandwich again. The chef made it for me with no problem. I was wondering if it would taste the same AND YES IT DID! I even spoke to the manager on how great the sandwich was and asked that they give my compliments to the chef! I even made a suggestion to add it to the menu and call it the Veggie Cuban!

I grabbed a bite here while staying at the Marriott last week. Food was far from spectacular and of course, since its in a hotel, was way overpriced. The staff was great, but the food lacked both quality and taste. Typical bar food with nothing to rave about.

    (2)
  • Andy G.

The food in this establishment appears to be made from cardboard and not the tasty kind. Avoid at all costs unless of course you like tasteless food that's made from cardboard.

We were in town for a volleyball tournament and came here with about 15 people. Place was pretty busy but we were sat right away. Overall the food and service was pretty good but a little pricey. For 3 people, We had 2 big orders of nachos 2 draft beers and 2 mixed drinks and our bill was about $82. Good food but not worth the price.

  • Harry H.

Attended an impromptu wedding after-after party here within the Marriott and food and beverages were typical. Service was friendly and quick as we were the only ones posted up at the tables. Stayed open relatively late (for Florida on the weekend).

  • Gloria S.

Your nephew doesn't cook here. Not a sports fan, don't drink, yet always come here when in town. Quality food, a real chef is involved, staff is professional, customers are not your local neighborhood bar chewing tobacco gang. Big place, lots of tvs of all sizes. Made up my own Caesar with Mahi Mahi, no problem substituting. Hotel is beautiful too, take a walk around the waterside and burn off some calories after your meal. Parking is the only problem, they have valet if you have the $.

I was a little hesitant when we grabbed lunch here - I was thinking oh great - a greasy sports bar - just what I need right now after coming back from Disney and eating a ton of not-so-good for you food. But I was pleasantly surprised. Our quesadilla was AWESOME. Not at all greasy and jammed (and I mean JAM packed) with chicken and cheese. I also loved that they gave you a ton of salsa, quack, and sour cream on the side. No need to ask the waiter for more, they have you covered! And the Mahi-Mahi sandwich was really good as well. Again not at all greasy - just grilled to perfection. As far as the bar itself is concerned - It's a true sports bar. Tons of TV's everywhere, games, etc. Defiantly a good spot to catch a game.

We went after hockey game. Great waitress and service and delivery of food fast. Good late night place to get a snack.

  • Chan L.

I didn't have high expectations, but service sucks and the food was equivalent. how can young waiters and waitresses be so unenthusiastic about working for tips, they have a big surprise ahead in their careers. how can wings be overcooked and have no taste, but still be served. the mahi sandwich was served on a cold bun, really? all of the 4 items ordered took about 30 minutes after ordering.

Great place to watch a game!! We stayed at Marriott Waterside and loved this gem in the hotel. Staff was great, food was very goo with huge portions. Oh & the bartender loved Mickey Mouse LOL

Dear Champion's Sports Bar that is attached to the Marriott Waterside Hotel, I like you! Especially for the beer and quesadillas! Good service, quality food, and fun atmosphere. This is my go-to joint for dinner the night before embarking on a cruise.

  • Deb S.

Here for a convention, stopped for lunch. Service wasn't that great. The food was okay. But here's why I gave it such low ratings - we had two people, ordered two Cubans and two soft drinks. With tax and tip the bill was $39. Holy crap! Felt very ripped off. I expect to pay a little more at a hotel, but seriously, a sandwich, fries, and soft drink for $20????

They went from having the best Cuban sandwich in Tampa to just plain meh. They've changed s lot of things at the Marriott since Vinick took over, but the Cuban sandwich recipe was one of those they should have left alone. What makes a great Cuban? Its the pork. Genuine pulled pork beats the processed sliced stuff every day. And they changed the recipe from having true pulled pork to having the sliced stuff. The result? An average Cuban sandwich. What a shame. The good news? The Chicken Quesadilla is still the best. Please don't mess with that one, ok? Cheese sticks are also still good. But the Cuban Sandwich? That one dropped about 20 notches in my best of list. I may have to start a new search for a best of Cuban Sandwich. But last time I did that I put on about 20 lbs. And I'm on a diet right now. Ratz. That will have to wait...

Hotel food, but the wings were just what I needed after a week of eating . . . not wings. I'm a wing fan, but I readily admit that I've never been to buffalo, I don't frequent bars very often, I've only fallen in love with blue cheese over the past few years (the Amish make a great blue cheese, FYI), and I don't really like super hot wings. What I do like are juicy wings that aren't overly breaded or fried, which is exactly what Champions provided. I don't drink, so I can't comment on the drink selection. I can say, however, that for a sports bar this place delivers--you'll find more TVs than you need. The service was ok as well . . . nothing to write home about, but prompt and quiet. I also tried the veggie burger on a second visit and found that pretty good as well.

    (4)
  • Michelle B.

The food was okay. They are way understaffed. I poor waitress was working super hard but had way too many tables. Wouldn't go again.

Wings are stellar. Same as the waffle fries....well and honestly everything we ate. Huge screen to watch the games. Best hotel bar we've ever been to!

I will not go back. 40 minutes to get 2 salads and two fast apps, which all came out together. Salads were so bad we literally didn't finish them.

    (1)
  • Marinda H.

Typical casual sports bar. Convenient to the hockey arena and convention center. Ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich - decent but nothing amazing. Came with waffle fries which were luke-warm but still good ;) Server was adequate.

  • Joanna T.

Really surprised at how good my lunch here was. I'll be honest, I had pretty low expectations from a sports bar in a Marriott across fom the convention center (shocking, I know). The inside is what you'd expect - TV's every 5 feet, ample availability of chicken wings, framed jerseys on the walls, Smashmouth on the sound system. The menu is what you'd expect too - the aforementioned wings, nachos, burgers and the like. That said, you can be healthy-ish. They've got a turkey burger and you can sub fruit or salad for a side instead of fries. The person I was with went with a burger & fries which were described as "solid". I had a Cuban sandwich which was honestly really, really good - they roast the pork in house and it shows - very flavorful. Portions are HUGE - just half of my sandwich had me plenty full. Service was fine - they were busy but our order came out quickly. Overall, way better than expected.

    (4)
  • Stephanie S.

The waffle fries earn 4 stars alone. Grilled Mahi-Mahi sandwich, Turkey BLT on sundried tomato wrap, the chocolate cake-peanut-butter-ice cream concoction - ALL good. And then, there were all the tvs tuned into men's and women's NCAA Tournament games to keep me up to speed while my husband was busy conferencing with his colleagues. Solid sports bar inside a nice hotel - easy, convenient, good. And the waffle fries.

    (4)
  • Amy Z.

OK for a hotel bar. Always a stop on our 12 bars of Christmas so we can get a photo with their great tree.

  • David M.

Not normally a fan of the hotel restaurants when I travel but I was hungry and this place was convenient. Bottom line, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the BEST WINGS I've had. Dry rubbed and fried crispy with the sauce on the side, they were amazing. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals as well. Service was super nice.

    (5)
  • Stephanie S.

Meh. Maybe because we came in right after the hockey game let out. The restaurant was mostly empty, but we had to wait like 20 mins for a table for two. The service was adequate, though a little slow. The food was meh, we ate because we were hungry and there was nowhere else for us to go at that late hour.

    (2)
  • Jen T.

Delicious mahi mahi sandwich! Very fresh, and quite tasty. Nice whole wheat bread. I subbed a salad for fries and it was very fresh. Surprised I could eat healthily at a sports bar across from the arena! Not a great wine selection, but it is a sports bar. Very nice bartenders!

    (4)
  • Darryl H.

Champions has great wings, the buffalo being among the hottest I have found in Tampa. Also the large screen TVs are high quality and numerous. They go to great lengths to be sure you are seated next to the events you want to watch - more so than any other sports bar I've been to locally. Champs is inside the downtown Mariott and does little advertising but is well worth checking out when in the area. Especially if Hattricks is too crowded and you don't have hours to wait.

    (4)
  • Lilly R.

If you're from out of town and staying at the hotel, look to yelp to provide better options. We only come here to watch a Lightning game if we don't have tickets that night. The food isn't great and the staff lacks in service. They're not rude they just lack in service.

    (2)
  • Angela S.

Best wings we have eaten! Order the hot and sweet chili sauce mixed. amazing combo!

    (5)
  • Shuné D.

This is located inside the Marriott across from the Tampa Bay convention center and not very far from the Amalie Arena. We ended up here after the Lightning Fan Fest nearby for some lunch. This is a rather decent size Sports bar with many TVs showing the seasonal sports game. They made sure tables and seating filled every crevice of this place, but it was still spaced out enough to still be comfortable. There's a huge projector screen covering an entire wall with the featured game. The food/drinks menu features a similar menu to most sports bar which include wings, hamburgers, etc. I had the classic Angus burger and it was good! The wait staff was friendly and quick. I would definitely recommend this place as a decent place to eat after a game or event either at the Amalie Arena, Tampa Bay convention center, or anywhere else nearby.
