Yes. I like this wine bar restaurant. I have seen many of our fellow yelpers reviewed this restaurant and I have book mark them for some time. Finally, I have the chance is open up since the other restaurant close at 8 pm. The restaurant does have a wine bar. I like their wine by the glass selection. You can buy the wine by ounce. They start with 3 ounces glass and you can add by the multiple of 3 ounces. The price will be added on until you can get a whole bottle. For me is perfect since my wife do not like alcohol and I can go with the food with how many ounce I need. The wine list seems like changing base on the availability. Tonight we started with fried pita bread with the red bean paste and the calamari as appetizers. The pita is crispy and loves to use it to pick the paste. The calamari is normal but the sweet chili sauce makes it to the top. I like it with the caper and make this unique from other fried calamari. We have the beef empanada and the lobster bisque. The beef empanada is so so. The Bisque is good but the lobster crump is too less. Our entrée are the Lobster Risotto and the Grilled Salmon with green bean. The salmon is greatly grilled and top with tomato salsa. This is OK dish. The lobster risotto has six large shrimp in it. Again the lobster meat crump is too less. Overall the meal for two with a glass of wine with tip is approximate $50 is not a bad deal. I may come back to visit some time when I finish my book mark. The tablet to call the service is useless. We have press it twice and nothing happening. Use the hand signal is the best.

Service was great, our waitress was very attentive and friendly but honestly, we must have come on an off night, the food was not good. It didn't taste like it was cooked to order, it just felt hastily put together. The drinks were weak and just poorly executed. I guess this place is better with wine because all they need to do is serve it. We ended up going somewhere else to have properly-made cocktails. I can't really recommend it based on my experience.

Great Happy Hour!!! Great Prices! Great food! Great Service! This Carrollwood location is NOT noticeable. I've passed this place for 3 1/2 years and never noticed it!!!

Great healthy lunch options that include gluten free & vegetarian options. The wine selection is amazing and is a great place for some meetups. They have wine flights which is great to try the many varieties of wines. Some saya they have tastings as well. Thursday is $5 Martini, just so you know they ha w a full bar. I love the food here. Great portions and reasonable prices. I have the Lunch Messe Hummus plate today. Which is 2 types is hummus and quinoa with Mediterranean black olives and grilled pita chips. Delicious.

LOVE this place! Every time I go the food, service and cocktails are outstanding! I highly recommend the red sangria! The white is really good too, but you have to be in the mood for sweet. This trip my friend and I ordered plates to share including the Lobster flat bread and Mediterranean plate. The flat bread was sooo good! So was the edame hummus with olive oil! And the quinoa was absolutely amazing! I need to learn to make it like that. We arrived 1/2 hour before closing and our waitress was VERY accommodating. We'll be back!!

    I. Love. Carmel! A friend and I went to Carmel Kitchen & Wine Bar for a girls' night out recently. We arrived just in time to put an order in before happy hour ended, but there was a wait for a table so we sat at the bar until it was ready. I began with a Skinny Poma-Tini and my friend had a glass of chardonnay. We also ordered the chickpea fries and meatball lollipop pomodoro. Before our food had a chance to come out, we received a text saying our table was available. We closed out our first tab and made our way through the dimly lit restaurant. It only took a few minutes for our food to arrive. Holy cow! This stuff was amazing!! The chickpea fries are like little golden hummus fries from heaven. I tried the tomato jam, which was okay, but the curry aioli is just not for me. No worries though, these babies were perfect on their own! The meatballs had a lightly crisp exterior and were covered in a delicious marinara sauce. I could've eaten three plates of each of these by myself! I decided on the red sangria for my next beverage and it did not disappoint. We also decided to split the Rustic Grilled Chicken plate. She ate the roasted veggies and I ate most of the chicken. It was juicy and well-seasoned. The concept of ordering on an iPad is genius. It makes the process incredibly easy and fun. I hate when restaurants take your menu at the beginning of a meal! This makes it quicker to order a different type of drink or plate and allows you to look at the dessert menu without asking the server to recite it. The service was impeccable and our waitress consistently refilled our table's water. I only wish the parking lot was bigger, because we got the very last spot in the overflow parking lot and I would've hated to wait around for someone to leave. I really have nothing but praises for Carmel and I cannot wait to go again!

Loved the Kim Bailey Brunch! The fried chicken benedict was so good! We also had a side of the buttermilk pancakes. They were amazing! Great homemade syrup. Wonderful overall experience. Thanks for the hospitality Kim!

This place has amazing food. I always get their hummus platter. Love the ambiance. Everything is reasonably priced. Didn't really know a good wine to taste because they had alot of options but my server tried to get to know what i preferred and made a great suggestion that suited my liking. I like to try new dishes each time i go and i haven't been disappointed yet.

Have been here for dinner but this was first time for lunch. The lunch offerings are smaller portions but just the right size for me. They have sandwiches, flatbreads, salads, soups, seafood etc. My dining companion and I split a tomato marguerite flat bread. It was delicious. But even better was the basil salmon with kalamata olive tapenade on top. The modern low lit ambiance makes this a nice date night place. I did use the iPad to order, the server was efficient but a bit on the abrupt side. We were talking and taking our time and she kept coming back to ask if we were ready to order. A little annoying since I told her we'd use the iPad when ready.

Had a delicious lunch today with a great friend. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We loved the IPad ordering process because we were able to order an appetizer and then our lunches, timing them when we were ready. For our appetizer, we got the goat cheese all, served with pita chips, sundries tomatoes, olives and roasted garlic. Try it if you love goat cheese, you'll be thrilled you did. For lunch, I got a small plate of the rustic chicken tenderloins with the grilled veggies. Everything was flavorful and presented nicely. My friend got the steak and frites and absolutely loved it. We will loved our meal and will definitely come back. Note: sign up for their points program, as they send coupons through email.

Last dinner with our daughters while one visiting from out of town. The menu totally brought us in here and didn't disappoint. We had the short rib empanadas, and the meatballs as appetizers and could've made a meal of them. But we then moved on to Steak Frites, crab cakes and the Rustic chicken. OMG, all delicious and very timely service. Dessert was 1 of each please. Warm pound cake with strawberries, chocolate lava cake with French vanilla ice cream and key lime pie(perfectly balanced). Not to mention the complimentary black bean hummus(YUM)!! A wonderful culinary evening together. Thanks Carmel.

A few coworkers and I had our holiday lunch at Carmel. It was easy to make a reservation for six of us, and they were cool when we called to let them know we were running a few minutes late. The servers were all friendly and ready to help with the iPads. Luckily, we didn't need much help - half of our party had been to Carmel several times already! The pictures of the food are helpful, and I think it's neat that you can place an order using the iPad without having to flag down a waitress. I'll try to remember some of the things we ordered. We had the chickpea fries, which I was told were an absolute must. They were really good; the consistency of the chickpeas was smooth and the dipping jam and aioli were very good! It seems like this is a go-to dish at Carmel, and I would definitely recommend it! We had an order of hummus, and it comes with these house-made veggie crisps that are quite good! I had a 1/2 flatbread combo. My flatbread was the grilled lemon chicken and artichoke, and it was delicious! The house salad was also very good and came with a tasty dressing. My dining companions are nearly all gluten-free, for sensitivity and/or health reasons, so celiac diners will be happy to know that Carmel is great for gluten-free needs. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options as well.

We went on Christmas Eve and had a great time with the kids. The iPad ordering system exceeded my expectations and now I wish other restaurants did the same! At first, I worried about what the service would be like. We think it actually frees up the server to spend more time with you. Our server was very attentive always making sure drinks were in order and he explained anything on the menu we had questions about. What's nice is, anything you order gets to the table in 10 minutes. With 3 kids, that is perfect! You can control the timing of apps, small plates, kids meals - keep everyone occupied and get out quickly or stay and nosh while you enjoy wine. We liked the chickpea fries, dip trio plate, and steak the most. Food is not high-end fancy, but is really tasty. Dessert was pretty standard, but of course that matters very little to the kids. :)

This place is great. The decor is classy and the overall environment is very laid back. They use a very intuitive form of ordering which is all done through an iPad, of course they still appoint you a server if you like to order the old school way. Our server was fantastic and he really kept an eye out for our drinks. The reason I gave this place 4 stars was because I was midly disappointed with my food. Our appetizers were great but the steak I ordered wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Overall I would definitely return to Carmel with a date as it has a very cozy feel to it which makes it perfect for a date night.

The food was good but not spectacular but with all the people, you may think otherwise. For the wait, I would go elsewhere.

Great specials on every night of the week make Carmel a tempting place to go even though there are only a few food items here for me. Their happy hour is from 4-7 every night including weeknights, and during that time they have $5 big pours of wine and reduced price appetizer. In addition to that there are drink specials each night on a specific drink, and bottomless mimosas on Sundays. My only gripe with the bottomless mimosas (and my visit as a whole) is that it requires your server being available to refill it in a speedy manner. Even though it wasn't very busy when we went, our server was hard to find at times and the kitchen seemed to not respond to any of our requests we input on the iPad. I called for the server on three occasions and he didn't seem to come by until his usual rotation, and I also ordered a coffee which didn't come out until I asked the server for it. They really shouldn't put out the iPads if they aren't going to pay attention to them during less busy times. The server was nice otherwise, just hard to come by. Otherwise the food was great. My wife and I had the chickpea fries, which are very unique and worth coming back for on their own. I also had the black olive caesar, which was good but nothing particularly impressive. My wife had the trio of dips which included the edamame hummus, the red pepper hummus, and their goat cheese dip with lots of pita bread and roasted garlic. We enjoyed all of the spreads and were both very full with a bit to take home from all that. So despite some spotty service, which I'm sure was due to it being a slow time or just our particular server, I do enjoy Carmel and would return for drinks and light munchies again.

I was getting hungry while waiting in a car stereo shop so... I flipped a coin and headed on foot to the right, which was heads. The first restaurant I came upon, besides Chuckie Cheese which I didn't consider for a microsecond, was Carmel. While it was mostly empty for lunch, I had made my decision and could not be dissuaded. Ordering via iPad was fun although it turned out I was locked out from completing my order due to some technical glitch. My lunch of artichoke flatbread and olive Caesar salad was truly delicious. The full bar didn't hurt either and now, I was feeling less pain, although I wasn't in pain. Ok. I don't know where I'm going with this so moving on... Overall, I really enjoyed it. The music is upbeat modern jazz and my light meal was affordable and satisfying. I don't want to be sacrilegious but sometimes, don't search Yelp and just start walking. Good things can happen.

This place has great happy hour wine deals. The inside is so much cuter than expected...the outside is a strip mall next to Chuck E Cheese but you don't feel that way inside. The food selection is decent and the iPad ordering system means never waiting for a waiter!

  • Meagan F.

The entree was good..although overpriced. The drinks were not very good. The waiter claimed the bartender was great, but not in my opinion. Both drinks were weak, and almost watered down. Blah. The food was tasty, but I didn't think the prices were appropriate for the portion size. I don't think i would come back here.

  • Garnet F.

Nice atmosphere and service. The food however is mediocre at best. Lots of items seem like they came from the freezer. Bland. And the portions are insultingly small for the high price and poor quality food. Nothing was particularly bad, but it wasn't good either.

Finally came and checked this place out after being told by so many people how great it was. Girlfriend, the baby, and I decided to celebrate Vday on Friday instead of Saturday because of our schedules so called and made a reservation for 8pm. We were running a little late so called early to change to 830 and confirm it was ok. When we got there we were told that they do not technically do reservations for less than 4 and that I should have been told that. Of course I was a little aggravated that we had to wait 15 minutes with a reservation only bc there was no waiting area and had to hold the car seat the whole time lol. My mood was quickly shifted when we met out wonderful knowledgeable server Robert. He was very energetic and knew everything about anything on the menu. Menus, ordering, and check out are on iPads which is pretty cool bc they actually show the picture of every meal before you order. We ordered the notorious Chickpea fries and the crab cakes which were both to die for! For entrees my girlfriend ordered the Filet Medallions (9oz of perfectly cooked and seasoned filet with red potatoes and haricot verts). The steak melted in your mouth with every bite. I ordered both the Lobster Risotto (creamy and rich risotto with lobster, crab, and tarragon oil on the rim) and the Pork Tenderloin (thin sliced fried pork tenderloin with apple chutney and haricot verts). Lobster Risotto was absolutely amazing and the Pork was good but not as good if you don't eat with the apple chutney for flavor. Our meal was complemented with a nice bottle of Riesling and still spent less than $150. They have a rewards program that helps you get free food with points and we checked out on the iPad which was VERY convenient. Can't wait to go back and try some other stuff on their menu! Ask for Robert. He made it an awesome experience. Great dinner!

Got a gift card from a friend so decided to try Carmel for the second time. I am not a fan of Ipad ordering but gladly my server was very attentive and knowledgeable so I didn't have to order thru an Ipad. I ordered the rustic grilled chicken and was tendered and flavorful. The place wan't that packed so food arrived very fast. I ordered a Moscato which was good but not my favorite and sadly they only carry one kind a little dissapointed coming from a wine bar restaurant. This is a new upcoming local chain with a little menu, great flavors and service. Hopefully they still that way. I will definitely be back soon to the Winter Park one.

Well...one of my fav Tampa restaurants just fell off my list. Yes the server was apologetic for all the mishaps (and there were several) but the manager was insincere and absent. I am guessing this is where the problem is... Server was new so the manager should have been more involved. Good luck New Years Eve diners!

Heard about this place from my hairdresser and decided to check it out with my girlfriend.. Needless to say we absolutely loved it! The Olive chutney they bring out with the bread sticks was so unique and tasty that we had it refilled around 3 times. I do wish they brought out fresh soft bread from the oven but only because that would taste way better with the olive dipping sauce. We ordered a chicken dish via the iPad of course and our waiter was so helpful assisting us in navigating the restaurant app. The only complaint we would have is the slight disorganization after hitting the "call server" button on the iPad. Sometimes it didn't work but on the bright side our waiter was attentive enough to arrive at our table just in time to refill our drinks! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a casual night of fine dining with a new spin on ordering and paying for your meal. The ambiance is relaxing and the crew is warm. All around a great restaurant and I'm happy to say I've had the privilege of eating here! :)

My first time was on Saturday for my birthday. I was impressed by the atmosphere. I am a fan of the iPad order system. I tried the flatbread with boneless ribs. Delicious! The Tunisian chicken very good. The portion was excellent! If you like chocolate, try the chocolate lava cake. Enjoyable experience!

Great ambiance and atmosphere. Came here for lunch with my grandfather and both he and I ordered flatbreads: I a Tomato Margherita and he a Lemon-Chicken Garlic and Artichoke with Lobster Bisque and Butternut Squash Soup. The waitress was quick and attentive, explained everything very well, and wasn't too pushy. The food was incredible and fast! We ordered the lunch specials and had some to take home. Also, the Arnold palmers here are quite delicious. They don't taste fake or unnaturally sweetened. Overall, great dining experience. Would highly recommend.

I was really excited about eating here, as I had passed it so many times. But, I was a little disappointed. First the good- the ambience is cool, the menu looks delicious, and you get to order from an iPad! Also we were there when martinis were on special. I ordered a tuna nacho dish thing that was very scrumptious. Then the bad- my drink pretty much never arrived. I think I asked 3 people for it and it wasn't until after dinner showed up that I finally got my drink. This was disappointing. I like the ipad ordering system, but it seems they haven't quite got it down right. Also, i wasn't quite sure how much to tip?? I will prob give Carmel another shot but not for a while

First time at Carmel was a great experience. However upon entering I was quickly seated and handed an I pad with no explanation of what to do with it or how to order. Thankfully the server was kind enough to explain. I picked it up quickly. This restaurant is beautifully decorated, no wonder it was crowded at 8pm on a Wednesday. We ordered the lobster bisque and a flatbread consisting of fontina cheese, short rib meat, mushrooms and a plumb sauce which was out of this world. We had the lobster and shrimp risotto, lots of shrimp and lobster, also the lemon chicken, moist in a wonderful broth! However, the portions were on the small size. I would rather pay a few bucks more for larger portions. The desert selection is just ok. I will be back again and again!

Ok so I would like to thank Carmal Kitchen for a reply back on my comment. I kinda feel bad now, because there were good things about the place. And they are. It was very clean and the wait staff were nice. The food presentation was very professional. REMEMBER EVERYONE JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE ONE 2 REVIEW DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULDN'T TRY THE PLACE. I do try to be fair to the places I go. So in closing I shall return one day. Everyone gets a 2nd shot at stardom.

Went here for a lunch meeting with coworkers. I went with the meatball sandwich with fries since everything else didn't appeal to me (and to several other coworkers). The sauce on the sandwich was good; however, the meatballs were too salty. The fries were a bit overcooked and were kind of hard. The service was ok. Our party had about 14 or so. The meals all came out very quickly; except those that ordered the chicken sandwich, those came out 10 minutes after everyone else, the server didn't bother letting those waiting on their food know until they asked where their food was. Didn't get to try any of the alcoholic drinks since we were on the clock. Booo.. Bottom line: I wouldn't go here again unless someone else wanted to go, the food is catered to a very specific taste palette.

I'm a fan of this place. The wine list was great. I love a good beet salad and there's was pretty good. I've had better but tasty none the less. I've tried other things on the menu and liked everything but I can't remember what they were. It's fancy enough for a nice date but not stuffy.

Completely and pleasantly surprised by this place! It's in a strip mall off of N Dale Mabry with many, MANY, restaurants to choose from. We were greeted by a wonderful hostess who opened the door for us. The decor inside was just beautiful. There was a pretty healthy lunch crowd for 1pm and when we were sat we were surprised to be handed an iPad. The hostess was so sweet as she was excited we had never dined there so she could show us the iPad ordering option. Each item is listed on the iPad for order, complete with pictures, and the food looks exactly as it does in the picture when it comes out. If you want a beautiful place for a date or business meal, this is it. The technology they have built in allows for easy and confidential ordering.

This place is amazing.. From the food to the customer service. The child that was with us was scared to come in, they went out of their way to offer him food he loved and games on their iPads to make him feel calm and comfortable. The servers were all kind and knowledgeable and the food was to die for. This is our new favorite restaurant. PS the extra thoughtful amenities in the Women's restroom are great too!!!

Every time I go out to eat Tampa restaurants never cease to amaze me. I went to Carmel's on Friday and it was amazing. I am stickler on service and this place gets a 10 for service and being so nice! I went with a fairly large group so I made the reservation before hand. When I got there they has the table set and ready to go. The waitress came over and explained out the iPad ordering worked. I honestly was kind of skeptical about it. And I think I was only leary about it because it was different and I could place my order myself. Once I gave if a try it wasn't too bad. I order the steak and fries. It was really good. The only hiccup that i had was that I asked for well done but it came out medium. I mentioned it to the waitress and she immediately took it back. I thought I was going to be waiting forever but the new order came out quick and really good! Also another thing that I liked was that management came over several times to see how things were going. It seemed like they really cared about your experience. After the main course we orders dessert. I had the lava chocolate cake and then a friend ordered the pound cake. Both items were really good. Overall the experience was great and I will definitely be going back. another thing I forgot to mention is that they free valet. Which is nice because the parking lot is kind of small. And since it's a wine bar type of restaurant their wine list is good as well. I suggest everyone try it!

I have found a new love, roasted red pepper spread. Nice and thick, but not too thick. It is so flavorful and packs a little punch. For a small plate or appetizer it is an excellent choice and I will be back for more! Next I tried the crab cakes, they were good, not great, but good. More crab than filler, not greasy, crisp on the outside, but something was just lacking in the seasoning department. It needed a bit more zip, don't get me wrong it was good, just needed that 1 something extra to make it stand out from all the other crab cakes you have eaten. Did I mention Happy Hour? LOL, no I wouldn't forget to mention something as important as that. Some wines and cocktails are at a reduced price, as well as some appetizers. I have been here a few times or more and it just feels comfortable. I never feel rushed. I can relax and catch up with emails, just relax and distress or even be social. As far as the I Pads, they don't need a gimmick. I find it useful, when I just want some down time and don't want a server interrupting my thoughts or relaxation. What's a girl to do? Sometimes we all need our alone time, even if we are in public.

This is one of those restaurants and bars you have to get a little accustomed to and then you end up loving it. Wednesday night is half-price bottles of wine and that makes the prices amazing. The Justin Cabernet is usually $60, and an excellent wine for $30 out to eat. The beer selection, thou small, is diverse, so you will fine something you can try. I've enjoyed both wine and beer here. The entire menu rocks.

I dined here for lunch. I loved the ambiance. It's really a lovely restaurant. The ipads don't add a lot to the experience. I basically looked at the menu and then figured out how to input my own order. I had the short rib flat bread and it was pretty good.

Today's secret Iron Chef ingredient is........the iPad! Well sorta....Carmel Cafe gets high marks for originality as the concept behind this Modern Mediterranean (Mod Med) cafe is to place your orders via a supplied iPad which has been custom-programmed to show you pictures of the various plates of food as well as a small description for each item. The idea is for each diner to take the iPad in hand and then select their individual courses. Let the fun begin.... Carmel Cafe has Mod Med cuisine combined with an extensive wine list and full bar. The food is extremely good, and the iPad ordering system is fun, and I'm sure quite practical for the kitchen & serving staff. Carmel Cafe is located in a strip mall alongside Dale Mabry Highway in Carrollwood. The location is a bit disconcerting as their neighbor immediately to the north is Chuck E. Cheese, and to the south are several commercial and retail establishments, all in this same strip mall. It's a bit tough to find, but if I told you that it is directly opposite the highway from Grillsmith, that might make things a bit easier. Once through the front doors you'll see a very chic and elegant dining area adjacent to a long bar with a nice mix of tables and extremely comfortable booths. The hostess brings you your very own iPad and introduces your server, and from there you start flipping through the screens and zooming in on various items. At this point your server magically appears to explain that you should order each course one by one, because once you submit an entry to the kitchen via your tablet, the food comes whisking out within moments. This gives you the ability to control the speed of service and delivery of your food. When you're ready for the next course just whip out the ol' iPad and tap away to your heart's content. The servers are there to answer your questions and give you some suggestions on pairing the various courses, and selecting wines or cocktails. OK, so on to the food... I was there tonight with a buddy from work, so we decided to order some of the small plates and sample a bunch of items. We started with Nan's Goat Cheese which included roasted garlic cloves, sun-dried tomato, olives, and some yummy toasted bread wedges which had been seasoned with spices. Along with that we also ordered the shrimp ceviche which was chilled and included seasoned shrimp, peppers, citrus, cilantro, avocado and vegetable crisps. And our final appetizer sampling was baked spinach and artichoke dip with toasted pita chips. Naturally we needed some adult beverages to accompany our meal, and so I ordered the Pinot Noir flighting which was three excellent samples of Italian, California, and Chilean wine for $10. My friend had a tough day at the office, so he went straight for some pomegranate martini action. Because we were deep into business talk, we decided to order one more small plate to serve as our main course. Mine was the Spinach Gnocchi Marseilles made with shrimp, scallops, mussels, fennel and roasted peppers in a spicy bouillabaisse broth. This was serious "lick-the-bowl-clean" good! My friend ordered the Steak Frites which was grilled and sliced Meyers Natural Angus beef, served with béarnaise aioli over their house fries. And now, back to our iPads.... So now it's time to pay the bill, and the waitress explained that we would be able to check out using our new friend, the tablet. A few clicks of the button and you can choose to pay the full amount of the bill, divide the amount between a number of diners, or pick off your individual menu items and just pay for your share. This seems much easier than the old days of trying to figure out "OK, who had the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup?" Oh, and naturally you enter your credit card information on your friendly neighborhoof iPad, and faster than you can say 'Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations', the restaurant auto-magically delivers your credit card receipt right into your email before you even leave the table. OK, the technology part is seriously cool and one heck of a lot of fun, but the quality of the food at Carmel Cafe stands up to the iPad gimmick. I will definitely go back, even if they drop the whole iPad thing. Meantime do you think we could convince them to let us play 'Angry Birds' on the tablets between courses?

Very impressed! The ambiance is great with the low lite atmosphere and adequate spacing of tables for a nice evening. Had the Rum pear drink..yum. the drinks might be small but they are made perfect. I don't like a lot of mixer and they get right to the point..very rare!! Food was good, I had the burger with sautéed onions. Wasn't real crazy about the iPad ordering but the waiter took good care of us. Can't wait to return

I didn't know this was one of those places that have incorporated technology and you place your orders from an iPad. First thing they tell you is not to order everything at once. I'm not sure I like the concept most of us spend so many hours in front of some device that I actually like having a person to take my order and interact with. The server was really nice and she would come around often to check so not an overall feeling of being on your own. Now the food was great, I visited during Dine Tampa Bay and ordered from that menu, the prices here are very reasonable so if you don't care for a 3 course meal the main entry would be fine and at a good price. I ordered the Salmon and I would go back for more. I noticed they have a good happy hour with drinks and appetizer $4. Inside it's comfortable with a slight lounge feeling. Parking is small so prepare to do Valet.

Great good at a great price. Will be back for sure. I had the short ribs with palenta and it was wonderful. All the apps we had we great also. Love the fact we can order as we go and don't feel rushed

Our favorite date-night spot, also a great place to take friends! The seasonal menu keeps it interesting, and the food never disappoints! Love the "call server" button on the iPad- this fixes the only complaint I've ever had! The chocolate lava cake is a MUST. To die for!!

I absolutely love this place. It is SO NOT ABOUT THE IPADS. The servers will take your order and you don't need to mess with the technology, but you can if you choose. Wednesdays are phenomenal. Half off wine bottles and you can taste first. The menu is eclectic and very heath and veggie oriented. Food comes out quickly and I have found they are very accomodating. My friends meet here with me often and I've also had a large party and they did quite nicely with that was well. In fact I go back again this coming Wednesday!

What am I missing here? Heard so much about this place. Been there twice and each time I swore I wouldn't go back. Well I'm going back again this month--we will see if my opinion changes. The food had no flavor and I'm totally grossed out by the greasy/dirty iPads. :(

I gave this place five stars because the food was phenomenal! The restaurant is decorated to kind of feel like an upscale posh cafe, but the menu prices are surprisingly average. The staff is SUPER attentive and friendly. Their menu's are on an IPad which allows you to view photos of what the items are. The food was super tasty (pumpkin ravioli, yum)! The only drawback is that the portions are super small. If you're looking for something light before a night out or maybe a movie that won't leave you feeling overstuffed and bloated, this is the perfect place.

Carmel Cafe felt like a piece of Atlanta from the moment I walked in - think midtown or Atlantic Station, upscale and fun.Don't let the strip mall location deter you as everything in Carrollwood is located in a strip mall. Trendy decor with warm color and decorative accents. Booths, tables and bar seating depending on preference. The seating is placed so that you can talk and have fun while still feeling like you have space. The lighting is great for both bar and tables. Diners varied from couples, to friends to business for dinner. Families would be fine as well. The service was excellent! My server, Sandal, was so helpful and attentive without being intrusive. Ask for her when you go and you will have a great dining experience with super service. A lot of the reviews talk about iPad ordering which is an option, but technophobes relax as there is a paper menu and absolutely no pressure to order electronically. The pictures on ipad menu are a bonus however. First out is an appetizer olive tapenade with crunchy bread sticks while you look at the menu. The wines are by the bottle or glass. Great bottle specials on Wednesdays! There is a nice variety of selection and you choose the size: 3, 6 or 9 oz pours. A full bar is an option and the menu does post specialty cocktails as well. The menu is varied and surprisingly offers some vegetarian, paleo and low carb choices...and they are quite good. Try the mashed cauliflower - good enough to make you not miss the mashed potato! This is not a vegetarian or funky restaurant and most entrees feature meat, chicken or seafood, but it is nice to see the variety. Entrees are pictured on the ipad menu which is a nice plus is you like to view accompanying veggies and presentation. Portions are good size. Entrees run about 15-25. They also have tapas/sharing items that seem to have about 4 servings per plate and run $7-15. Soups are $4-6 and salads around $5 or $4 with an entree. Try the black olive caesar - very tasty. Filet medallions were excellent. I was full enough to skip dessert, but the options looked interesting. Lot parking. This was a great place and I will definitely be back! This may be my new local favorite!!!

Went here for a date with my boyfriend the service is very good fast and friendly and good food. It's a little more expensive place to eat though . But they have good wine and good food

My friends and I come here every Tuesday night after our pilates/yoga class, and this place is amazing. The food is delicious, the wine is well paired, the lavender lemonade is addictive, and the service is helpful but not overbearing. If I could eat here every meal, I would.

  • Rachel M.

This place is still awesome but I seriously love the food and the lava cake the most. We had a press of white sangria. It's about 2.5-3 glasses. But the white sangria was purely wine with no sweetness. We really did not care for it. We also got the 3 trio with two truffle, and one custard with amaretto too sweet, but the lava cake with ice cream really hit the spot. It's so nice to bring friends and guests to a place where you order from an ipad. So cool and this is definitely a part that keeps bringing me back. We ordered food to go for my husband and that was very easy as well.

I become less and less in love with their iPad system with each visit I make... During a recent meal there, the shortcomings became even more apparently. First off, it never ceases to amaze me how little they capitalize on having an electronic interactive menu. Just off the top of my head, some options for those with food allergies would be nice. Being lactose-intolerant, I'd love to quickly be able to find the meals that are dairy free. Secondly, to address the slowdown of having only one iPad per table, they now also provide printed menus. That's nice for helping other people at the table figure out what they want, but they still need to wait for the tablet to be passed around to order. Sorry, but if you want to be "that restaurant with the iPads", you need to have iPads for everyone. Otherwise, it's just an inefficient gimmick. Lastly, when I attempted to pay my bill after eating, the button to pay was disabled and the text, "The check is closed" was displayed. WTF does that even mean? If paying via the tablet isn't supported, hide the option to pay. Don't even let me see it. But if I can see it, at least give me useful information about WHY I can't pay. Otherwise, one of my final experiences at the restaurant is that of frustration... I ended up having to wait an extra 5-minutes or so for the waitress to come to the table, ask if I wanted desert, take my card, and then bring back a receipt to sign. While I normally don't care about that sort of thing at traditional restaurants, the selling point behind the iPads is supposed to be how efficient it makes things.... At this point, I really think the restaurant needs to go all-in and fully invest in tablet-based menus that actually add something to the experience or they should ditch them completely. As it is now, it's just annoying.

I don't particularly like the ipad ordering system but they will serve customers in the traditional way as well. I have been here twice for lunch. Both times the service was adequate. I had a chicken salad the first time and wouldn't order it again. The second time I had the salmon salad and absolutely loved it! It was large enough for two meals. I will order it again. My friend had the seared tuna salad and was also pleased. They had a decent size gluten free menu as well.

I ate at this restaurant last night with a group of friends. The ambiance was very nice, however, everything else was incredibly flawed. While the electronic ordering system is interesting, none of our orders arrived at the same time, and many items were forgotten. We had to remind the wait staff multiple times for items forgotten, and finally my girlfriend received her drink after we finisher out entrees. The food was incredibly oily and when I asked the waitress about it, she proceeded to argue with me about it. I did not enjoy this experience and will not be returning.

Excellent food and atmosphere for the money. Server was great. Wine was 50% off on Wednesday. We had a nice Pine Ridge White Wine for approximately 18 dollars. Steak and frites was grilled nicely and the tuna salad was large and fresh. A definite place to try and very conveniently located off Dale Mabry.

We went on a thursday evening and were seated right away, the atmosphere and decorations are nice and it definitely makes for a great place to meet friends. We had the brisket flatbread, calamari fries, morrocan chicken, and crab cakes. Sadly the chicken was not that great, the taste was a bit off and neither of us would order it again. The crab cakes were delicious and were paired with some avocado, I greatly enjoyed it but my boyfriend felt the portions were small for the cost. The menu was a bit limited, but it was good enough to maybe try again.

Pretensions yes, high tech yes, but good, yes! Carmel Cafe and wine Bar, is a Middle Eastern / American fusion restaurant, that specializes in not the wine but the iPod menu at Carmel they utilize the iPod for there menu and to order if you want, they almost outsource the servers. There servers are however very good and friendly. The food, no complaints here, the food is Middle Eastern, with a Italian and American flair, typically theses don't work, what country do you know that tolerates more then two other countries, by the way Canada doesn't count! Here the food is served elegantly and with pizzaz. The Baba Ganoush was excellent with a hint of garlic, the Hummus Fries has a little back heat and two great dipping sauces; however, I used the Baba Ganoush as a dipping sauce. The Bouillabaisse or Spinach Gnocchi Marseilles (French) was good and chock full of seafood I didn't see any Gnocchi in it, but it was good! The Beef Short Rib also was very good it had a hint of cardamon, but of course it was that middle eastern flair. The wine was a little pricey, but very good! All in all I like this place, if it were a franchise restaurant, I'd say it's a winner, if it's not, I'd say Tampa is the winner!

Arrived at the Carmel Cafe after a disappointing Valentines day meal at another restaurant down the street. We came in to have a glass of wine. My wife and I were immediately seated. The atmosphere is fantastic. The service is prompt and extremely knowledgeable. This is now my new go-to restaurant for date night with my wife. Thank you for the great finishing touch to an otherwise dismal evening.

A few people in my office raved about Carmel Cafe, so I was excited to give it a try. Now that I look back though, they raved about the iPad ordering system, so that should have been my first clue about the food and service. The wait staff was pleasant and explained the ordering process, even ordering our drinks for us through the iPad. The drinks took more than 15 minutes to arrive. I saw our server making the drinks, so perhaps the bar staff called in sick, but 15 minutes for a few drinks seems excessive. I found the vegetarian options for lunch limited, and they seemed to be more like appetizers or side dishes served on larger plates. The table ordered the Mac & 4 cheese to share, and I thought it tasted very chalky and not creamy at all. I ordered the shrimp pasta because the horseradish tomato sauce sounded delicious. It was a nice sauce, but there was very little of it on the plate and seemed more like a garnish than sauce. The pasta itself was too congealed on the plate and because it was so sticky, I had a difficult time eating it. I gave the shrimp to someone else at the table who said it was ok, but not very flavorful. All in all the dish was a disappointment. Other than the drinks and wine, which were lovely, the meal was disappointing. Perhaps they should spend more time focusing on food preparation, and less time explaining how to order via the iPad.

Trendy and high-tech. I've been here twice and have had a great experience both times. Using an iPad given once you're seated, you can order as much or as little as you want at a time... but I highly suggest that you stagger food orders (if you're with friends sharing small plates) because the food can and will come out very quickly. During one of my visits, the Mac 'n Four Cheese dish was ordered and, for whatever reason, it wasn't prepared correctly. Our server promptly informed us of the mishap and let us know it had to be re-made and will be out soon. Food already comes out in a flash, but when the re-make did come out (not long at all, maybe 5 min later), it was hot and extremely delicious. Such exceptional service and a high standard in kitchen deserves a shout out. They have a decent wine selection and the ambiance is great, often with live music. The food overall is delicious. A couple of my favorites are the Chickpea Fries and the Lump Crab Cakes. So far, there have only been a few items that I felt to be average compared other menu items -- the lamb and veal sliders with patties that were a bit small and a little on the dry side and the chocolate lava cake that wasn't really hot at all (the ice cream accompaniment tasted better than the cake). Aside from those two moderately tasty items, I think everything on the menu is great. An overall awesome place for all occasions.

Heard about this cool trendy place and had to try it. The Ipad ordering is smart with little need for waiter interactions. Food was absolutely delicious, my wife and I had the Chick Pea fries and Shrimp Ceviche to start. Both were sized perfectly for sharing with the one you love or like, lol... Overall fun place with good choice of portion sizes.

Wifey and I enjoy getting to Carmel on a regular basis. The staff is very nice, service is great, and we love the food options. We enjoy ordering with the Ipad as we order the dish we want, when we want, and it arrives quickly. I highly recommend Wine Wednesday when bottles are half off.

Thank you, Sarah and the entire Carmel Cafe crew for taking in two refugees fleeing the horror of failed engagement plans at another restaurant. After enduring a noisy, crowded place that served us mediocre (and in one case partially cold) food - dessert at Carmel was what we needed. Thank you for providing a lovely place to get engaged and enjoy celebratory dessert and cocktails. If the other place had been our only option, he would have had to ask me via text as we couldn't even hear each other across the table (I wish I was kidding.) We love you all and cannot thank you enough! So - do you all do private parties for weddings? :)

LOVED this place and will definitely be back! Looking on line....it looked great! Driving up and seeing it in a strip mall....was totally skeptical. Enjoying the AMAZING food, sharing small plates, having fun ordering via the iPads...it was a fun dining experience. Food was wonderful. Portions were big and prices were very reasonable. Decor was comfy and totally forgot what it looked like walking up. Do note, it says "outside dining" on their website...you would not want to do that unless you want to sit at a cramped table out front watching cars whiz by and kiddies exiting the Chuck E Cheese next door! :) And it's also fun watching the wait staff balance taking your order and you punching it in the iPad and stuff just showing up. Loved it.

Decent "tapas-style" dishes. Great service. Also, nice happy hour wine specials. I like the N Tampa location better than S Tampa. The food wasn't very good at all so my friend and I tried the Carrollwood location the next time. It was way better. This is a place my colleagues and I will go to after work sometimes to unwind.

Wine prices were insulting. Two different staff members advised us against the only red wines that were under $10 (6 oz). They brought us samples of those wines and they were indeed unsatisfactory. I refused to pay $14 for a 6 oz pour of a Spanish wine that I frequently purchase at ABC liquor for $15. Food was good but also expensive. Although there were a couple of portions that justified the cost, most dishes were small as they are designed for sharing. Ambiance was not great because the lighting was too bright. There were alot of empty tables for Saturday night. Overall, they offer good products but their pricing strategies don't support a tapas style restaurant.

We could not have asked for a better place to have our ladies luncheon. We were a group of 10 gathering to say good-bye to a friend. We booked about 10 days in advance for a Wednesday luncheon. Our table was ready when we arrived. The staff was really terrific even though we had a late-comer. As we requested separate checks, our charming server explained the menu, took our orders for us and entered them on the IPad. Our meals all arrived at the same time, orders were perfect and our individual checks were presented without a single error. Thank you Carmel Cafe!

Excellent menu, service and food. Eclectic tapas menu. We split roasted red pepper dip, chicken skewers, braised short ribs, & brussel sprouts. Finished with the chocolate hazelnut cannoli - tremendous. Great dining experience. We will be back.

I've driven by this restaurant many times, but finally had an excuse to stop in and try it for lunch this afternoon when my friend was up for suggestions. I arrived about 30 minutes earlier than my friend, but it wasn't an issue waiting for her. I ordered a cappuccino (which was surprisingly top notch for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in them) and took my time scrolling through the ipad menu. The ipad menu was marketing genius on their part. The gorgeous photos of all the dishes were way more persuasive than the written description I had read online before hand and I found myself suddenly tempted to order and extra starter dish and sides, just because they all looked so tasty. When my friend did arrive, we both enjoyed the experience of ordering right from the iPad. We each took our turns ordering our combo meals then submitted the entire order to the kitchen at once. It was nice because we didn't have to wonder where our server was at the time and we could order in peace. Once the order was sent, it was really no time before the food arrived. I swear I blinked and the food was in front of me. The food itself lived up to the beautiful presentation showcased in the ipad menu photos and it tasted as good as it looked. I ordered the lunch combo with 1/2 the seasonal flatbread (shrimp, mango, arugula) and Minestrone Verde Soup, which was herby, salty, and delicious. Be warned that the 1/2 combo portions seemed small at first, but ended up being pretty filling. When it came time to check out, the convenience of the ipad was again wonderful. We were able to easily split our check through the ipad app and pay via our credit cards while never losing sight of them. It was also very 'green' considering the receipt could be sent directly to our inboxes.

My current fave place. My 7 yr old also loves it because she can play on the ipad. Everything we have tried so far has been great. They could stand to make their portion sizes a tad bit bigger. My daughter is still hungry after finishing her kids meal.

If it weren't for the iPads and the $25 prix fixe menu, I would probably give this place 3 stars. BUT they do have iPads and an amazing $25 prix fixe menu for 2 on Sundays/Mondays, so I will give this place 4 stars. The iPads are probably a little over the top but I love that you can order off of it and most of all, I LOVE that they have pictures of all the foods they serve. The prix fixe menu is a great deal... a 4-course meal for 2 people for $25 total (not each). You get to choose 1 appetizer to share, each person gets their own soup or salad, each person gets their own small entree and 1 dessert to share. It's the perfect amount of food and you get to try a bunch of different dishes. Quality of food is good, but not great -- nothing really to write home about (which is why I would probably only give it 3 stars).

Not sure how to feel about this place yet. This was my first visit and it seems like our waiter forgot about our table because he was too busy cutting fruits. Service here need some improvement for sure. As far as my meal, my shrimp Ceviche was very yummy

The Missus and I loved Carmel Cafe! 50% off wine bottles on Wednesday let us get an affordable bottle of vino, and the tapas-style "small plates" let us try a bunch of dishes. We left stuffed and happy, more so when we saw the VERY reasonable tab. The iPod ordering seemed gimmicky but actually worked quite well - we will be back! Highly recommended!

Carmel Cafe offer a Mediterranean uniqueness that separates this establishment from other restaurants. Generous potions and gorgeously presented local foods are full of worldly flavors. Despite their wide selection of wines, I always chose the house sangria which is served in a coffee press which adds to the uniqueness of Carmel Cafe. Carmel Cafe changes its menu with the available flavors of the season, so your favorite dishes may be missing from the menu. Their signature flatbreads are always available but the flavors may be slightly different. The chickpea fries are a house specialty and a must-try! On Sundays and Mondays, Carmel Cafe offers a Prix-Fixe Dinner for 2 (dinner for two for $25) and also offers lunch specials for $10. They do not offer a kid's menu but can recommend certain dishes for kids. Kids are welcome to entertain themselves with Angry Birds and other games available on the Carmel Cafe's iPad menu

Although the concept of the iPad is exciting we had at least 3 different people explain to us how to use it which was a little annoying but I understand they were just trying to be helpful. A friend and I shared the chickpea fries which were very good. We also shared the Carmelized Brussels sprouts which were alright but I wouldn't order them again. I had the village salad which was very good. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was also wonderful. The iPads are good for people like me who like to see what the food looks like before you order it. All in all it was a good experience!

Ewie. Was super excited because of all the good reviews; and a recommendation from a friend. Moroccan chicken was "squeaky" and the sauce tasted like it was from a jug. Beat salad was good, but a bit salty. What killed it for me was the loud, cheesy lounge singer in the middle of the restaurant. Couldn't get out of there fast enough!! UPDATE: Note that this review was belated. I had posted it on 3/21/12 via Yelp Mobile and didn't realize it hadn't been posted until July. I did get a nice note from Mike from the restaurant who appreciated my input and asked for more information. Of course, I replied directly to him, but wanted to provide the community some more info. The "lounge singer" was during a wine tasting that was going on in the restaurant that night. I assumed the singer was a standard part of the atmosphere, but Mike stated that they hadn't had an ongoing singer there since late 2011. Wanted to provide the update to be fair, especially since Mike was so cool about reaching out. He was truly proactive, vs. defensive. I look forward to trying the restaurant again and will post a new review after that. Upgraded this review from one to two stars because Mike was so cool, but wouldn't be able to raise it more until I go back and try it again.

I love this restaurant at Carollwood location, it is close to my house and ample parking. The ambiance is very nice and decorated in a good taste. First time my daughter took me there for Mother's day, I was not expecting much, because on the day like this usually most restaurants have lousy service. But i was very pleasantly surprised! My second visit last month, I took my teenage grandkids out for lunch. They are very picky eaters and they loved it too. We ordered the flat bread for appetizer and it was so amazing; the chicken kabobs scewers were very tasty and moist. The food is great.and for lunch they offer 1/2 portions, which is plenty. The service was very good, the food came out in time, no complaints. The electronic iPad ordering system is interesting, but has glitches when comes to paying the bill with the credit card. My credit card was actually charged twice for the same meal. Next time I will pay my bill directly to my server. I see that many customers are complaining about the pricing being too high. Don't they go shopping? The prices in all groceries stores are so expensive for the last few years, the wages are up and most restaurants have high overhead. I will eat there again and bring my friends as well.

Went for the $25 fixed price "Dine Tampa Bay" deal, and was very pleased. Classy decor, and well staffed. The order by I-Pad innovation may be fine normally, but was cumbersome for a special that was not programmed in, and some patrons just did not want to bother with it so ordering actually took longer due to the scrolling done by wait staff. And wait staff recommended ordering in phases...not the whole meal at once because "the kitchen is very fast." And it is, but other restaurants manage not to bring out apps, entrees & desserts all at once. Their salads are very nicely arranged and dressed, and here you get 4 courses for the deal, so we also got unique chick-pea fries (fritters) and nice mac & cheese. Entrees of filet with well-seasoned "Carmel fries" and a very good gnocci/seafood dish with wonderful broth were well portioned and prepared...finished by some fine desserts...try the trio with truffles and a small cherry custard. Good sangria with the meal. The menu theme leaned towards Mediterranean, with many-Middle east touches. The chick pea fries were exceptional, like fried hummus with some nice aioli and tomato jam sauces. Now pleased to hear another Carmel is opening next week on Henderson near Kennedy to serve the South Tampa folks who wither when pulled off their peninsula. There is a science-fiction plot in there somewhere...."The Shriveling of the Stampons."

Salmon was outstanding, short ribs were ok, but unremarkable. Wife liked the chickpea sticks, but to me they were just ok. Nice affordable wine by the glass... Actually liked the iPads, but not the sick waitress. A pretty decent choice in the area.

Ran across a review from the Tampa Bay Times that said the food and service was not good. Checked Yelp and found lots of good reviews. So, I decided to find out for myself. Yes this place is in a strip plaza (a not very nice one at that), but the interior is upscale and modern. The big deal here is the i-Pads as menu and ordering device (a waitress helps or will even take the order herself). We found it easier ordering drinks from her but ordered the food off the i-Pad. We shared the Mac & Cheese that was very good and had a surprising nice bite to it. My wife had a Flatbread which she said was OK. I had the Lamb & Pork Sliders and Fries. Both had very nice flavor. All and all the food was good and our server was very good! This was a fun place to go for dinner largely for the i-Pad gimmick. I don't know if we would go back often, but it was fun and that seemed to be what the place was going for.

I give it 3 stars because half the food was OK and the iPads are a very good distraction for antsy toddlers. But the food here tastes like "chain food." It's not really all that fresh, it's salty, etc. The minute you place your order for an item on the iPad (they have iPad menus), about 5 minutes later the food comes out, and you are thinking to yourself, what, did they have this just sitting back there cooked already? The ordering system, by the way, needs fine-tuning. The waitress was as confused as we were in terms of what we ordered, didn't order, were missing, etc. Place is also very dimply lit. Too dark, IMHO. I thought the best thing we ordered was the burger. Not a mark of a great restaurant.

  • Jennie W.

The service is kind of bad actually. The food is ok but I think the idea of ordering your own food on iPad may have seemed smart or fun even, but really it's a little work when your trying to have a conversation and just enjoy your company. The server was MIA at times we had to flag him down a couple of times. It's a nice setting and good lighting/music. Just not too impressed.

Carmel Cafe is a much needed young, unique and modern restaurant in an oasis of bland north Tampa chains. The iPads are easy to figure out (and it's brilliant to have photos of each option before ordering!) I didn't experience the iPad payment snafus that other yelpers mentioned. The ambiance is a bit more trendy than most places in the area, but it's also cozy and great for conversation. On to the food. Everything I've ordered has been mind blowing. The spinach gnocchi is incredibly flavorful (do yourself a favor and order the full portion instead of the half.) The chickpea fries have a delicious international flair, and the edamame hummus? Lets just say I've placed pickup orders so I can keep it in the house as a snack. The happy hour mezze platter is definitely a winner for $5! I'm a vegetarian, so it's great to see so many unique meat free dishes on the menu - but my carnivore boyfriend raves about their Moroccan chicken!

Totally cool concept. When they seat you, the hostess hands you an ipad to make your order. My fiance and i ordered the chickpea fries, the steak frit, the lamb sliders and roasted veggies (you have to be semi healthy). The chickpea fries were good, but after 2 the mushy texture takes over. The lamb sliders were over salted and i could feel my fingers starting to swell due to the water retention. The veggies were bleh. The one thing that saved this meal was the steak frit. It was delicious. Dipping the fries in the chickpea fries tomato jam took it over the top. Next time i know, skip everything else and just order the steak.

Stopped by on a whim... right at happy hour which started at 4pm. Tried the braised rib flatbread which was really good but i do have to warn ya, it is greasy. They just needed to add some more arugula like they did for the lemon chicken flatbread which was awesome. Had a glass of white sangria which wasn't as good as the red. The edamame hummus is pretty darn good. Will definitely come back to try other dishes. ooh also had the dessert trio which was pretty sweet. My other half stated they had a pear dessert a few months ago but apparently they do change their menus so that is good.

We had a group of twenty. We loved the $25 for two deal. Great food. All of us seemed to be personably waited on. I never felt like a massive group. We shared the chick pea fries, soup, salad, salmon, and strawberry short cake. Delicious!

Sat at the bar and had the Calamari Frittes and Steak Frittes. Both were quite good. Calamari does not disappoint as it is wont to do. Not crazy about the iPad ordering. Seems a bit over much and impersonal, though seeing pics of the food is nice. Not sure about the sit-down dining, but the bar was a great stop to split a couple plates and glasses with the lady you eye with longing ...

The location is next to a Chuck-E-Cheese. Don't hold that against them. Ordering from the IPad is a good idea so you can pace what comes out. The waitstaff was very helpful and friendly. I have to say the food was good but don't go starving. The food servings are pretty small but they are good. The first round, we had goat cheese served with small toast crackers, olives, roasted garlic, and red peppers. It was very good. I also had the white sangria. Wow, that was delicious. It rivals my favorite sangria at Ceviche. The second round, I had the chicken skewers and the tomato and mozzarella flatbread. I was really impressed with the chicken. It was full of flavor. The flatbread wasn't as impressive. I was hoping for more of a softer texture. Lastly, the chocolate lava cake. Normally you can't go wrong but the outside wasn't what I was expecting. It may have been a darker chocolate than I like. My lava chocolate was real milk chocolate. My friend's lava filling didn't melt corectly and stayed inside the cake. The ice cream was forgettable. It's really a shame. I loved the decor, the service, and the sangria. The chicken was very good. Nothing else really did it for me.

Tried this place out for lunch today. Placing your own order and paying the check via iPad is a novel concept, but they have a few issues that they need to work out. First being that our iPad lost connection to their wi-fi and the server had to manually connect it to their secondary wi-fi. When it came time to pay the check, the ability to split it up with other diners was very easy. However, when I chose not to get a receipt, one still printed out at the host stand who then brought it to me anyway. Then, when my friend paid his, the host came over a second time with another unwanted receipt. It was a minor annoyance, but not very efficient on their part and 2 times our conversation was needlessly interrupted. With that said, the food was good and I enjoyed the decor/atmosphere. I'll definitely go back!

we went there late on Sunday night - around 8:30 pm, which in Tampa, is like 3am in New York, so i was expecting tired staff preoccupied with getting out of there, cold food, and a wait staff who probably needed some adderall to stay on it. What a pleasant surprise when we got nothing remotely like this! Sharp staff, delicious, freshly prepared food, and a great atmosphere, filled with other lively bodies at this time of the night. If nothing else, go for the cool iPad ordering experience alone, and get blown away by the tasty vittles. We'll definitely be back.

Coming from out of town, but having lived in Tampa in the past, I was thrilled to find this restaurant. The ambiance and menu are a pleasant change from the sea of chain-restaurants in the Carrollwood area. The food was very good. I enjoyed the variety and the ability to order smaller portions. It was also nice to see that people from all ages were there, and paper menus lived happily next to iPads. The only con I found is that service is really prompt, even for a busy Saturday evening, so the time I usually spend chatting while waiting for my meal was reduced to almost nothing. Therefore, I now know to spread the timing of my order a bit more next time I go. However, there will be a next time

Steak and fries are the perfect 10 pm foodie meal! The spinach gnocchi was excellent as well! Both worth trying :) the only downside to the place was the total cluster created by two iPads on a four top. There just wasn't enough space for the food, drinks AND iPads.

Just have to add... i've now tried about 75% of the lunch menu... and haven't had a single mediocre item on the menu. The new salmon tartine is a great addtion. Only thing i would change, and I mean only, would be a bit less salt on the fries.

Not bad for a strip mall, but I guess in Fl, that's not a good barometer of what will be good. Interior decorum is nice, good "date" ambiance, due to low lighting. Everything is ordered from an iPad which is convenient and easy. The food comes in a variety of portions which is refreshing. All the food is generally health conscious and flavorful. The service is prompt and courteous. I haven't tried them for dinner, so I'm not yet acquainted with the wine selection, but hopefully I will get the chance to do so soon.

o.m.g. Carmel Cafe started serving brunch for the first time here this weekend...I kid you not...it was fantastic! I had the Italian Frittata which was more like a strata....incredibly moist and full of flavor....lots of herbs, cheese, some tomatoes and ham. This was served with a side of their potato pie which could've been crispier but very good and you could see the amount of time put into each dish here! My husband had the stuffed french toast, which was just like the old monte cristo style of a sandwich but with breakfast style food instead.... it was lighter than the way many other places serve it and not too much dough, delicious!!! We have been here for wine and appetizers and are thrilled they started serving brunch on saturday and sundays. We had one issue with ordering from the fun ipad for a second glass of bubbly, which they corrected once we called it out...somehow the order never made it to the bar but mo issue. Our server and the manager came by several times and they were very nice, helpful, and polite. The pricing was reasonable for brunch with most dishes around $10 and well worth it vs a chain. This is a must d o, but don't tell anyone :)

Yummy food. There was a wait upon arrival but the manager made up for that since there was confusion on reservations. We ordered stuffed dates, meatball lollipops, ceviche, mezze platter, crab cakes, chickpea fries, gnocchi, and 4 cheese Mac. My favs were ceviche, mezze platter and the 4 cheese Mac. The others were good just not as good as those 3. Cute ambiance and layout. Ordering via iPad was fun. Food comes very fast. Go try it out.

Oh my famished feelings are hurt because I wanted to like this place so much! The hours are different depending on the moon's axis and speed of rotation around the sun, so check before just dropping by. I heard so much about the ipad ordering system but it was so glitchy. I have an ipad and it has never torutured me like the ones at this place have; plus they're kinda gross, just sayin. The portions are small and expensive. I tried so many items on the menu and they were all meh. I kept flipping from page to page ordering different options, just hoping that there was something wrong with my all-inclusive tastebuds but no. If you are vegan, and hungry like most vegans tend to remain, stop by. If you have no dietary ristrictions: warning....you may experience severe feelings of underwhelment at Carmel, I did. 2 stars for a good try...I think I may have lost the third star somewhere in my hummus.

Once I dealt with chaotic Friday night parking, I walked into a dark, sultry and ever so swanky room filled with romance, friendship and everything between. Stone and crimson walls brightened with a colorful bar, abstract paintings placed perfectly throughout, and posh lighting beautifying every guest, this restaurant invites all to calm every nerve, to sit back and relax in the lush booths and to have one memorable night of delicious food and fun. Carmel Café is not only sexy; they are quite "techy" too. With iPads at every table, guests have fun scrolling through a menu in a very nontraditional manner. These iPads also allow guests to have complete control with the timing of their drinks and dishes. Servers are still present, bringing the dishes to the table, ensuring everything is up to par and making sincere suggestions along the way. What strikes my fancy the most is that I did not once have to wait on the server to ask for another glass of wine. I simply ordered it through the iPad and in no time, she brought it to me. Not relying solely on technology, it was very evident that Carmel Café staffs their restaurant with knowledgeable, skilled, and friendly servers We began our night with their seared Atlantic scallops. I was hesitant to order scallops because I am quite particular with their preparation. No need to be nervous...these scallops were enormous and seared to perfection! They cut like butter and were in a heavenly saffron vanilla sauce topped with peppadew peppers. The sweetness of the vanilla and the warmth of the saffron created a winning dish that I will definitely order again. Having heard that their flatbreads are divine, we ordered their Portabella and braised short rib concoction. I was most amped about the short rib but was displeased when I realized they weren't too generous with the succulent meat. With that said, the portabellas and the fig marmalade made the flatbread a memorable starter. This night was certainly a never-ending culinary experience as there were many more sharing plates to come. With a couple of glasses of white wine ingested, I decided ordering Mac n cheese from a Mediterranean restaurant was a smart move. Indeed it was. This Mac n Cheese was decadent with four different cheeses including a fiery pepper jack. With a crisp crumb topping and devilishly silky tangy and smooth cheeses covering every noodle, I was in Mac n Cheese bliss. To please our lovely server's request, we ordered an interesting creation of calamari, olives and herbs, served cold in a zesty marinade. The presentation was attractive, the flavors fun, but somehow I just couldn't get down with this dish. My beau demanded we order the lamb and veal sliders. The sliders were brought to the table and after I had a few sips of my wine and looked over, they were demolished. The meat was juicy and packed with great flavor. The mint cucumber sauce was the "icing on the sliders" with its bright and creamy zing. Up next was a spinach Gnocchi seafood plate, looking so lovely with its vibrant colors from the shellfish and sauce. Gnocchi is a dear friend of mine as is seafood so I was especially attracted to this dish. Beautiful jumbo shrimp and flawlessly cooked mussels lay soaked in a bouillabaisse broth along with roasted reds and various fresh herbs. I prayed the fennel (written in the dish's description) would not overpower the glorious goods. My prayers were not answered. As if we were not about to keel over and die from the abundance of food, I felt forced to order the lamb. After all, it is one of my top three favorite meats. Impeccably marinated and grilled to absolute tenderness, I was so happy I had resisted devouring too much with the prior dishes. We had certainly saved the best for last. To wrap up this splendid night of intense indulging, we ordered a few desserts. Cannoli, Strawberry pound cake and Chocolate lava cake made the cut for my sweet tooth. The cannoli was awe worthy the second it hit the table. The moment it hit our palates-that was another story. So bland, so uninspired. The chocolate lava cake, adorned with vanilla bean ice cream, spewed its warm gooey filling and was absolutely delectable to every last bite. Finally, the strawberry pound cake, a dessert that may seem so unoriginal was absolutely, positively, breath-taking. The top of the cake had a sugary sweet and crispy glaze and the cake itself was beyond moist. Carmel Café is something different. With very few memorable Mediterranean restaurants in Tampa, I am not surprised that this establishment has been getting some serious hype. They deserve it.

It looked so promising from the parking lot. We ordered an appetizer of the artichoke dip, it arrived covered in half melted shredded mozzarella cheese (it didn't have cheese on top on the picture in the iPad... Hmm). When we peeled away the cheese we could clearly see why it was added. I'm taking a guess at this, but I'd say that artichoke dip was probably 5-7 days old. It was dried out and shriveled away from the sides of the dish, the center was bone cold. The server looked at us as if we were crazy for turning it away, that bothered me, especially since we showed her what was under the cheese. A manager came out and apologized and validated our suspicious, the dip was old, dry and covered with cheese to hide that fact. He offered us a free dessert. My crab cakes were small, but delicious. My friend's salad was not what she ordered. It was disappointing, especially with 2 managers and an owner on site (complete overkill). Not happy, will not be returning.

We went there on a Sunday night and had the prix fixe menu for two ($25) plus an extra appetizer and some wine. Atmosphere: nice, modern, and clean. dim lighting and not loud. The iPad menus are neat distraction but not a reason to go there. Service: fine. Not overbearing or absent and was accommodating when we asked to send a dish back. He checked in on our meal several times. Food: This is where their problem lies - it's very hit or miss. We started with the baba ganoush which had a texture, flavor, and color not resembling most of the baba ganoush you find. It was far too pureed, had no smokiness from the eggplant, and was generally bland. We sent it back and got a goat cheese appetizer instead. It was a lot better and came with crostini, kalamata olives, slivers of sundried tomatoes, and yummy cloves of roasted garlic. The crabcake starter had far too much mayo in it - that was all my wife tasted. For her main course, she had pasta with shrimp and a romesco sauce on the side. There was nothing stand-out about this dish - average grilled shrimp with a pepper-tomato sauce. I had the steak frites and it was delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked medium-rare and the frites had a wonderful provence-style seasoning on them (not to mention they were crispy, not too greasy, and also perfectly cooked). The herb aioli on the side brought the whole dish together - simple but delicious. Finally, the chocolate lava cake dessert was exactly as you would want in such an indulgence - rich, gooey, and with a good strong dark chocolate heft. Had we picked better dishes than the crabcakes, baba ganoush, or shrimp pasta, I would be giving this restaurant another one or two stars. As it is though, they'll have to pick up their game before we give them another shot.

Power went out and they couldn't run our cards for us to pay, so they gave us the meal for free as an apology for the lack of power. They were wonderful and the food is exquisite, well-priced, and the staff is very polite and attentive. Definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who desires quality food, presentation, and service on a budget. I will definitely be coming here again.

Their new $5 After 5 they have on Wednesdays is a really great deal. A list of wines and flatbreads, all for $5. We tried the short rib and portobello flatbread, a good combo of savory and sweet. It's pretty rich, so it's good for sharing. The bacon and artichoke flatbread is really the star of the $5 menu - it has such a great flavor, you can tell it's "special" bacon and not your run of the mill variety. Two flatbreads plus the mezze platter (edamame hummus, red pepper humus, olives, artichokes and a decadent brick of fried feta, served with pitas) was more than enough to share for 3 people. I wish they had live music on Wednesdays, the way they do on the weekends, but -- no complaints here. I will definitely be back.

First time here and I thought it was great. If you go on Sundays or Mondays they have a prix fixe menu that's really affordable. I love the whole concept of having a ipad as a menu and there is a picture of every item on their menu. I don't know how other people feel about it but I like to see pictures of things I order or am thinking about ordering. It helps people try new things and it's a lot easier for servers not having to explain what a item is or what's in it. It's a Tapas style restaurant so you can order small or large portions of most items making it affordable to try new things. The food itself was good too. Everything taste fresh and the food comes out quick. Having the ipad can be a gift and a curse because you may start wondering why there is a need for a server other than to bring your food to your table and refill your drinks. But since I can see what I'm actually going to order, I'm not complaining. If you get dessert you have to try the chocolate lava cake!

This is a wonderful dining experience. Order your food on an i-pad and its delivered quickly. Unique and yummy menu selections. Love the atmosphere. Just a note, don't order appetizers and meal at once, order as you go. Very friendly staff.

I'm not a big eater, and enjoy sampling lots of different things so this place is the perfect spot for me! We go to both locations with friends and order a bunch of plates to share with the table. The food is excellent, service is quick, and their wine selection by the glass is great!

Excellent food at reasonable prices. Great wine selection. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Love the integration of technology and the options provided via the iPad menu/ordering system. Fantastic specials with the Tuesday Trilogy and wine tastings, and the dinner for two on Sundays. Great place to bring dates, friends, coworkers, or anyone else with whom you want to share an enjoyable evening.

I have been to this restaurant twice now and was blown away (positively) both visits. The service is great, food outstanding, great atmosphere. Just be careful. When you order your selections from the IPAD menu, your food will be delivered in about 3 nanoseconds!!! If you have not tried the Sunday Two for $25, you are missing out on a great deal!!!

My husband and I just ate here tonight and we really enjoyed our experience. The service was great and the use of iPads to order food was fun and convenient. The only reason I am giving this 4 out of 5 stars is because we found the food just a tad salty. Overall, everything was great but it could do with just a bit less salt. I highly recommend the chick pea fries, they are unique and delicious and the dipping sauces are excellent! We will definitely come back again to try some other items on the menu, although I am pretty sure those chick pea fries will be ordered again.

Ok so caramel is officially one of my favorite places, especially on a sunday night. We found a server we love his name is Sam and he's great. He is attentive, caring, makes great suggestions, and has the perfect balance of service and leaving the table be to enjoy their experience. I will go 5 stars when I visit there a couple times don't have him and the service is still great. Oh we tried the tuna and edemame hummus on vegetable rice cake, paired with a nice presecco, IT WAS OUTSTANDING.

I have been to the Carollwood location twice now. Food has always been very good. I like the iPad technology they have in place. No liquor, only beer & wine, which can be a let down depending on what kind of drink mood you may be in. But they need some improvement on the customer service. Both dining experiences there were long periods of time that passed that our server never stopped by the table. Also when placing drink orders from the bar (on both occasions) they took a very long time to get drinks to the table. I like the restaurant overall and will continue to go here, but they still have a few kinks to work out.

Went here on a Tuesday night with the girlfriend after a couple Urban Spoon rolls. Pro-Tip: park in the rear of the building, parking can be a bit hectic in the front even on a Tuesday. After we were seated the waitress gave us an overview on the iPad ordering system. She explained that the meals come out quick so order each course separately. We went with Nana's Goat Cheese to start, was pretty good, but as I have never had goat cheese before I have nothing to compare it to. True to our waitresses comments, it came out really quick. For the main course I ordered the mod med chicken, and my gf ordered the steak frites. We were both pleased with our choices they were both well flavored, and filling without feeling overly heavy! Through my gf's protests I ordered the chocolate lava cake and cannoli for desert which was a nice top off for the dinner. At the end of the meal we were able to pay our bill through the iPad and have the receipt emailed to me. Overall the place has a nice atmosphere, not overly noisy, the food was reasonably priced and well flavored and the wait staff was very attentive. The ease of ordering and paying was a nice touch that I'm surprised hasn't been adopted by other restaurants.

First of all I am a professional in my late 40s living in Carroll wood. I belong to the country club and dine out at least 5 times a week. I enjoy fine dining and can afford it. Last night 3 of us sat at the bar talking eating and drinking wine for 4 1/2 hours. I am 5'10 and weigh about 200 lbs. I had over that time 6 6 ounce glasses of wine. We had a designated driver with us. I was not being loud or obnoxious, as a matter of fact we were jus sitting catching up. We were getting ready to wrap it up so I ordered one more 3oz wine. The bartender said she didn't think so then came back and said no. I asked her why and she told me I would have to talk to the manager. I told her that was not necessary but I would not be back. The manager came over and asked me what I wanted and I told him that I did not ask for him but was a little put off by being cut off. He told me that was at the discretion of his bartender. I told him that is not what she said but that's find and I will not be back. I told him we had eaten there often and I even entertained clients there. By bill was almost $200 and I was made to feel like I was a bother to still have me at the bar. The other thing I have noticed is they have been gradually raising the food prices each time I go in since I order the same appetizer every time. We normally support the restaurant in our area but I would never recommend nor be back here.

My fiancee took me here for my birthday and we invited friends and family to join us. First off, the food & atmosphere were GREAT. Everything tasted delicious and the ambience made for a really enjoyable experience. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that there was some MAJOR confusion when it came time to pay our bills. Being that we were such a large party (14 people total) we weren't able to order our meal with the ipads because they told us they wouldn't be able to split the bill if we did it that way. We had three different servers taking our orders and that only complicated things further. It took them over and hour to figure out and split all the checks which seemed a little excessive to me but they were very gracious so in the end it was okay. Either way, I highly recommend trying them out, just keep in mind I think you'll have a better experience with a smaller group of people.
