I really think "Best NY Pizza" should change their name to "Just Ok NY Pizza"...or maybe even take out the "NY"...because it really didn't seem like NY pizza (I grew up in NY) Since I moved to the Carrollwood area of Tampa, I haven't searched out a really good pizza place. I remember seeing the signs for Best NY Pizza and this afternoon, I decided to give them a try.. I ordered a slice of sicilian and a slice of ham/pineapple. The girl, taking my order, asked if I wanted to get 2 specialty slices, a garlic knot and a can of soda for $7.99. I said "ok". She asked if it was to stay or to go. I said "to go" and she then asked if I wanted them heated up. I have never been asked that question in all my days of going to pizzerias. I said "yes" (thinking..of course!.) So $7.99 for 4 items... approx $2 per item... Wow. ..inflation. Got my box and headed home. Ate the garlic knot on the way home. I swear there was NO garlic in or on that knot. I didn't taste any garlic and the knot was dry. I don't know if they were old or always taste like that....but not good. The two slices were just ok. They both seemed kind of dry...I don't understand why everything tastes so dry. Not a big fan. If anybody knows of a great pizza place in the Carrollwood area, please let me know. thanks

My wife and I tried Best NY Pizza after reading all the positive reviews online, and about how it was "just like New York" so decided it was worth a shot, but have to say we are not impressed. The pizza is limp, which I could deal with if the flavor was excellent, but it honestly was pretty "meh" tasting. I've eaten a lot of pizza in my 38+ years, and I've had far better elsewhere, both in terms of quality ingredients/crust and price. It's certainly often a matter of opinion, especially when it comes to food, but my wife and I didn't particularly enjoy this pizza. Regarding price - watch out. The prices conveniently are NOT listed on the online menu so you don't really know what you're going to be spending until after you've placed your order. We paid $35 for a single 18" pizza, and ONE cannoli. Ouch. I've had better pizza for far less money. NYC style pizza at NYC prices, I guess. Just a head's up. All in all, an average (at best) pizza for a steep price. Not terrible, mind you, but doesn't really stand out from the crowd. Don't think we'll be back.

Pizza is ok.service needs work.young counter people need to learn not to get annoyed at the customer who asks for something that should have brought to the table in the first place.not cool.

Ordered mushroom/ garlic pie for the hungry crowd at the house after the first swim in the start of pool season! It's Friday night and this place is as busy as any pizza shop in NY. The staff at the counter were right on fast for this busy place. Checked out my pie- slipped it into my pizza bag- yeah I got an insulated bag- respect the pie please. As for the pizza- delicious Crust is thin and well done, mushrooms are fresh and not too much cheese just the right amount of sauce and plenty of garlic Must have a new pizza chef because this pie was best I have had here.

Walked in to see if they served by the slice for lunch. Yes and saw about six different pies under glass that looked like they had potential. Then, I saw the "deals" offered on the wall near the front counter. And that was officially the end of my trip to Best NY Pizza. So, I don't know if it is the best or not. And it sounds like enough others here on Yelp dispute the claim. I just wasn't excited about dropping $7 on cheese slices with no toppings, a garlic knot and a can of soda. And even going up in price another buck still saddled me with a topping-free slice of pizza. Sorry, eating cheese pizza to me is like drinking alcohol-free beer or dating someone consistently without any sex. I just don't see the point. So, for two legitimate slices and a small drink, it was going to run me about $10 and that's just overpriced no matter how good the garlic knot OR pizza could be. Well, at least I found that alcoholic root beer plentifully stocked at the ABC liquor store right next door. No, that wasn't my lunch, but I feel much better about getting my money's worth on that $10 six-pack. (The ABC manager also said he mixes in one shot of vodka with each bottle for extra kick)

My wife & I remember when this restaurant opened their doors for the first time. The first few years the staff were extremely polite, friendly and most of all knowledgeable. We knew the cooks and most of the employees by name. We enjoyed the food & the hospitality very much. We became regulars & recommend numerous friends and family to this restaurant. Its a shame that this place is not what it used to be. Recently we placed an order for a 14 inch pizza and a regular size meat roll. The order was placed at 5:10pm. We arrived to the restaurant at 5:40 pm only to sit down and wait another 1/2 hour. Our food was over cooked but after waiting so long we just decided to take it and leave. The pizza was greasy & the crust was flat and very little meat in the MEAT roll. This place has a very high employee turn around. We try it every few months or so & each time we enter there are new employees not very knowledgeable. Worst of all are the outrageous prices, almost $22 for a greasy medium pizza and regular size supposed to be meat roll. Disappointed in more ways than one.

After spending an agonizing 3 hours waiting for a replacement license at AAA travel agency, I needed some food to pick me back up. Best NY pizza happened to be next door in this plaza on N Dale Mabry, so I figured we'd give it a shot. Its pretty neat how they have it set up inside: theres a walkup counter to order quickly for takeout or have it brought to your booth, but they also have a whole different room for a more normal dining experience thats nicer, but food and prices are the same. I didnt feel like anything fancy, and I liked the look of the "Sicilian style" cheese pizza, so I got a slice and some garlic knots. Honestly, neither really blew me away. I hate to say this but after my first bite of pizza, it instantly reminded me of the grocery store Digiorno kind. The garlic knots were alright but they didnt seem to have any hint of garlic at all. It seemed more flavored with just regular herbs than anything. My boyfriend had a slice of magherita pizza which was definitely better than what I had. Overall, I wasnt completely convinced that this place was worth repeat visits(especially with Alfonsos's so close to me) but i'd probably give them another shot in the future and order something different.

It's pretty fair as a New York style pizza, especially considering that you really can't get New York style pizza in Tampa Bay. New York pizza is thin crust, flavorful sauce with oregano and garlic, oil, and a good amount of stringy cheeses, well cooked. Nearly all pizza in Tampa Bay is fat gummy dough, bland sauce and dry plastic cheese. So, these guys do a reasonably good job. We got a plain cheese pie with extra cheese, and it was passable. It did not have dripping oil, which it should, and the sauce was too salty. The next time, we asked for the toppings of garlic and fresh basil, and that was a disappointment. There was not much garlic, and the basil was stupidly added to the pie before cooking. The basil was burnt black and bitter, fresh herbs should always be sprinkled on a pizza AFTER it comes out of the oven, hot and bubbling. But overall, it was a worthwhile pizza and almost correct as New York style pizza. UPDATE: YEEECCCCH!!! We got a large cheese pie yesterday, with extra cheese. It was made very poorly, no extra cheese (but they charged extra for it), skimpy on the cheese that was there and the topping-less bread border was much too wide. The pizza was dry, and tasted bad. This pizza was horrible and should not have been served. The idiot preparing it should have recognized that, but because it was take-out we were stuck. That's it for us... it wasn't really that good in the first place, and now you can be served and charged for rubbish. Another bad Tampa pizza RIPOFF!

Absolutely agree on the poor treatment of the customer. I go into BEST NY pizza for the 4th time. Having moved to this side of the town, I LOVE THIS PIZZA. HOwever, the customer service is like you are a dog. Last night, I wanted to get the pizza to go and take home. I like to wait for the pizza rather than leaving, so I can get it fresh, and still be somewhat fresh when I get home. Every pizza places till you 20 or 30 minutes when busy, and you know that they put the pizza sitting up on the heatear for most of that time, unless you are there. So I waited 10 minutes, and they tell me my pizza is ready but my Philly cheese steak is not. So I keep waiting, while they put my pizza on the heater. 10 minutes goes by. 20 minutes to make a sub? And my pizza losing freshness and getting old. I asked them and they say "sorry". NOthing else. A few more minutes goes by, and say this isn't right. I want to sit down and eat in at the restraurant so my food is still fresh. I go sit down, and wait to talk to a manager. He comes out, says he's sorry, and I wait 7 more minutes for my sub. NOTHING ELSE WAS SAID TO ME the whole time. The BEST PART? I had asked for extra cheese on my sub, and for the bread not to be toasted. When they brought out that sub??? It was with 4 slices of ICE COLD, completly hard slices sitting on top of my sandwich. I almost fell out of my booth. This was after on my 3rd visit when I was asked a waitress to bring me some melted garlic butter to dip my pizza in, she brought me a cup of cold hard butter, totally solid. I will not be back unless 1)someone explains this to me on facebook and 2) calls me and makes this right. I only wish I had taken a picture of those cold slices of cheese on my philly sub. Is everyone high??CW Peterson in Tamap

Great pizza and you can dine restaurant style or cafeteria style. The cafe has TVs so is great for catching game. We had a pepperoni pizza and loved it.. The staff was friendly, we will definitely return!

I read reviews about Best NY Pizza and I must say that I certainly did not have the same experience like most people. I found the garlic knots very greasy and it left an unpleasing aftertaste in my mouth. I ordered a small cheese pie and once I opened the box, it reminded me of the Pizza Hut Restaurant style. Thought to myself that this better taste awesome bc it doesn't look like the best NY pizza and I've had many in my days. They should not call themselves Best NY Pizza bc NY pizza does not taste so bland. The pizza was mediocre and not much flavor. I was very disappointed. I wasted my money but lesson learned.

I have only done dine-in here and only the by-the-slice specials. I love some great plain cheese pizza and it also gives me a good chance to evaluate the sauce, dough and cheese at a new place. Best NY Pizza did not disappoint. Well-seasoned sauce with a good balance of sweet and tangy and a crisp crust that had me eating every last crumb of the crusts. Great place to stop in and grab a quick bite while out running errands or if you're just crazing some good pizza. I don't know if it's super authentic or truly New York style, but I know it's good and sometimes you just need a big, slightly greasy slice of NY style pizza.

This place is above average by Tampa Bay standards, but would not be considered adequate in a Northeast location. Their Sicilian is probably a little bit better than their traditional pizza, but the overall weakness of both is that they seem to use mediocre Cheese and their oven is not hot enough so everything is just slightly "off" even though it's definitely edible. I used to eat here a lot when I first moved to Tampa because most of the Pizza places were outright revolting, but eventually I discovered some places that were a bit better than Best NY Pizza. Overall though, this is worthy of a solid 3-Star rating.

I notice that several Yelp reviewers are all upset by the name of this Italian restaurant / pizzeria, claiming that (in their humble opinions) this is NOT the best New York Pizza they have ever eaten. And to them I would say fuggedaboutit.......it's NY-style pizza, and it's pretty darned good.......and if you honestly think that the pizza from Brooklyn is so much better then please do us all a favor and take I-95 north.....and stay there! Best NY Pizza is a popular neighborhood joint in Carrollwood located in the same shopping center as Sweet Tomatoes, Office Depot, and ABC Liquors, and you'll find it just south of Ehrlich Road on Dale Mabry. They have a very large carryout business, and an equally impressive dine-in restaurant. On a Friday night the carryout side of their restaurant was hopping with quite a line of people waiting to pick up their orders. Lots of different specials on their menu boards for folks who just want a couple of slices, or a whole pie, or a complete Italian dinner. Over on the dining room side, the restaurant was packed with the servers zipping around the room to say Hi to their regular customers and deliver the food. The dining room has a number of booths for 4 people along the walls, and then a series of tables down the center of the room. Those tables are easily pushed together to accommodate larger groups. In addition to the thin-crust NY-style pizza you'll find thick Sicilian-style pies along with wings, calzones, hot subs, Italian pasta dishes and full entrees, salads, and if you have any room left.......desserts. Most of the orders are served with a free order of garlic knots which are big fluffy warm rolls, covered in butter, garlic and herbs. For my dinner I had baked ziti with marinara sauce and spicy Italian sausage, and my dinner companions were chomping down on a Margherita Pizza and saving room for the home-made cannolis for dessert. All in all it was a nice place and good food.

Pizza is outstanding. The crust is nice and thin. I also recommend stuffed shells and spaghetti. Reasonable prices, based on quality. They also have a huge eating area inside.

Having just moved to the area from south Florida, I was looking for a pizza joint to take my family to for Friday pizza night. I have not had anything other than their pizza and calzones. Calzones were good and humongous! But I am more a pizza fan. I really enjoy the crust on their pies and also the sauce to cheese ratio ;) I know this sounds a little to scientific for pizza but I assure you, it is a very important combination. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed.

Waited 45 mins at home for a simple large pizza. Went to pick it up and waited yet another 45 mins!!! The pizza was stone cold. We called the manager to tell him and he hung up on my husband. Not going back. Too many other good places around.

Good NY pizza yes - BEST NY pizza? now that's a strong claim I love the sit down and the interior of this restaurant as it reminded me of the shops i used to frequent back in NYC. For my new york pizza's what i usually look for in a slice is that delectable crunch each time i take a bite. When me and the family ordered a pepperoni pie, the roof of my tongue got burned which usually equates to a good slice for me. One thing we didn't like was that we had to eat it with a fork and knife because the cheese just slid right of the pizza and created a mess on our plates (might also be because we were all so hungry when we walked in that we just couldn't wait for the pie to cool down!). The sauce was good, the cheese slid right of my slice, and the crust had a good taste but just wasn't crisp enough to my particular liking. Next time i will be sure to order my slice extra crispy and report back. Kudos to the Friendly staff and waitress who helped our table ... thank you ! Either way with a name like "Best NY PIZZA" , you'd better be sure to back it up ... to me it was good ... but not BEST

Just had lunch, pizza was great as usual. But the customer service is really poor, not once did one of girls come over to see if everything was ok or maybe one of us did need a fork and knife or refill? Not even a thank you or good bye as we were getting ready to leave. Just continue with the chit chatting amongst yourselves.

I was impressed with how many options were available for an individual that comes here for lunch. I initially had planned on getting a personal sized pizza for myself, but ended up being swayed by the lunch specials that they have. There are many different options available with some of them including specialty pizza, New York style pizza, or a combination of the two. I ended up selecting the special that was two slices of Sicilian pizza, a garlic knot, and a can of Coke for around eight or nine dollars. I hadn't had Sicilian pizza in a long time so it was a welcome change from my normal routine. I definitely liked it and I'm curious to see what their New York style pizza is like. I was very surprised by the interior of this restaurant. When you walk in it's the standard assortment of booths and tables (along with a walk up counter for ordering) that you would expect from a pizza restaurant. However there is another room adjacent to this that is a nice looking dining area. This is closed for lunch but I peeked inside and was surprised at how big it was. I would come here for lunch again.

If you like Italian food try this place - pretty darn good. I had the heaping plate of eggplant parmigiana and it was great. The dining room is interesting they have a huge big screen but don't worry it just plays a slideshow of nice images - I kind of liked it actually when normally I wouldn't.

Great NY style pizza in Tampa! Service can be hit or miss, but lately it's been good. We brought in pizza last night for a group and everything was great. A few pizzas, eggplant parm, spaghetti with meatballs and salads. We will definitely return.

After placing the order on line for pick up they got the order wrong... asking IF I had a copy of the order - which I did... then told me to bring back the order so they could replace it. I live 13 miles away. Next problem... if this is "The Best New York Pizza" then I'll be ordering Chinese next time I go to New York! It's soggy dough and plain sauce left a MUCH to be desired. I'm pretty sure they don't want my business there since the food AND customer service is so bad!

From Columbus Ohio don't know many pizza spots in Tampa. Have been to a few. This has been the best so far. Nice and clean staff is always great. I like you can get pizza by the slice so if your in a hurry is ready. Have also done takeout everyone enjoyed. . I will come back

I love the pizza here, and its why we keep coming back. But all the other foods are excellent too. It's old school NY Italian, but made with really fresh tasting ingredients. Superb sauce and cheese. The service is good to excellent. The physical environment is nice, clean. They have a main dining room in back that is open in the evening only, which is where we've eaten. (I have also ordered pizza for pickup. Same quality.) My only complaints: I wish they had a good selection of micro-brewery beer. I wish the main dining room was open at lunch.

When I want a gourmet pizza, I go to Anthony's. When I want something that is similar to the pizza style I had in New Jersey growing up, I go to Best NY Pizza. It's not exactly like NJ Pizza or NY pIzza but close enough. You can fold the slice. My favorite here is a bacon/pineapple pizza, which my granddaughter is starting to like.

I have lived outside NYC for 15 years of my life. My husband was born and raised there. We know NYC pizza. I also know Ohio pizza. This was more Ohio pizza than it was NYC pizza. Went to this place after a 6PM comedy show. It was us and a few other tables, so not full. There were 6 of us. It was recommended to us from someone in our group. We went in thinking we were going to get the special they offer on the website, with 2 slices, a soda and a garlic knot each. The other folks looked at the specials then decided to get pies. I asked the waitress about the special but she tried over and over again to get us to order a pie. Then I saw her talking to the owner and she came over and tried to offer us a deal in splitting up a huge pie between the table evenly in the bills. But we all wanted different toppings, so it wasn't going to work. No one was really impressed with what we did receive. The garlic knots were hard inside. The pizza wasn't great. Good cheese can be told by the amount of oil coming off the top of the pizza. If the cheese is melted and there is oil dripping down your fingers, you have good cheese. If you have no oils, and the cheese is clumpy, it's crap. This wasn't crap, but there wasn't oil leaking off either. Both of my slices hardened almost immediately which means that cheese was old. My toppings were flavorless. The husband wasn't impressed, and he's the one who will eat most "NYC" style pizzas without a lot of complaints. But the major problem was that this crust wasn't NYC style. For those of you who don't know, NYC style pizza has to be folded in order to eat it because the crust is so thin. I wish I had remembered to take a photo, because this pizza held itself up with any issue. No folding required. If you want REAL NYC style pizza - go to Eddie and Sam's in Tampa. You can hardly get into the place at mealtime, sometimes you even have to stand. But they have really good NYC style pizza! They have great toppings, mild sauce, oily cheese and crust you have to fold! Trust me on this. It's the closest we've found, and the only thing that keeps my hubby happy here in our current home.

The slices are just the way I like them but I do have to add extra cheese. They also have garlic knots with a nice marinara sauce and a decent cheesecake. The atmosphere is more upscale than Pizza Haven. They have a dinning room with a player piano and a huge TV screen showing relaxing pictures. They also have healthier pizzas as well and I have tried and enjoyed their white pizza. They can get crazy busy so if you want to pick up its best to call ahead. This is truly a taste of NY.

My Brooklyn born wife and I have been eating here for years. When we first started coming in, the pizza was phenomenal--about as good as it gets for pie not from the boroughs. Lately, it has been hit or miss, depending upon the staffing. If the owner isn't there, the pizza is average. Still better than chain pizza, just not great.

I had a slice of pepperoni and my husband has cheese... It was pretty good. Its been hard to find good "pizza by the slice" in this area, so this place was an automatic hit. [So 4 stars for the food] On the contrary... I was watching my team play football (on one of their nice flat screen tvs), and there was less than two minutes left in the game and at that point, the game could have gone either way... All of a sudden, the channel changes to the Tampa Bay Rays!!!! WHAT?! Are you serious?! The guy that worked there that changed it told me that the Rays were coming on.... I didn't care if the Rays were coming on or not.... You could have given me my last two minutes of football before changing it to the other game! UGH!!! Complete turn off for me. I told them too! :( [2 stars for the lack of compassion for your fellow football watcher] which is how I came to my 3 star rating!

I love pizza, period! Eat it all the time and try just about every place I can. Sorry, but NYP was a disappointment. Pizza looks great in the display, but lacks ANY flavor or taste. In fact one crust was actually bitter and made the slice uneatable. Sauce was just hot and didn't taste anything like tomato sauce. Garlic knots have garlic taste, but are greasy. I bought the special, two slices, garlic knot and drink. Kept it under $10. One person.

My 12 year old "J" and I go here or order pizza from here at least once every month or two. The new full-service area is nice and the servers are friendly. It can get slow during peak hours for take-out pizza but usually we go there early enough to miss the rush. The pizza is pretty good and J loves the garlic knots!

When you spend most of your life living in New York City you learn to appreciate REAL New York style pizza. This is it. The only thing missing was the subway cars! Around the country people put "New York" in their name. This place puts it into their pizza. No Giants game is complete without a large 18inch pie. Give it 20-30 minutes when you call for a pick-up.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
