All I can say is that if you live in Tampa area and have never visited you are missing out. Hands down the nicest, cleanest, pool hall with great food! Don't even have to ask them to cook the wings crispy. Better deal than Boston's if you are about to see a movie across the street.

My neighbor and I have been plotting for weeks about going out one night and shooting some pool, and we finally connected this past week. Not far from where we live is Barley's Billiards and Grille located along Anderson Road, directly opposite the AMC Veteran's 24 movie theaters, and in the same little strip mall with a Subway and an Amscot check-cashing store. Barley's is a surprisingly nice, upscale billiard hall with six well-balanced, regulation tables covered in new felt. You certainly can't blame the tables for any crappy bank shots! Along the right-hand side of Barley's is a full bar, where a number of people were sitting and relaxing while watching sports on the big-screen TVs all across the back wall and over the bar area. In one of the corners are two electronic darts boards which attracted a lively crowd, and on the back tables were a variety of board games to keep everyone amused. There are drinks specials each night, and some discounts on various food items throughout the week. The night we were there (Tuesday) was $2 Taco Tuesdays, and you could order spicy shrimp, marinated beef or chicken, and marinated fish tacos for $2 each. The menu has a lot of bar appetizers and burgers, sandwiches, wings, tacos, and a few Asian options like eggrolls and tempura sushi rolls. Barley's attracts a fun crowd of experienced cue-Masters and their friends who enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the no smoking ban. They have league play on some nights, but also cater to amateurs. On Sundays they offer pool for $4 an hour, otherwise plan to pay between $5 - 7/hour depending upon time of day. Barley's features weekly lunch specials with 2 hours of free pool with your lunch order. They also have a special Happy Hour on Mon - Weds from 4 - 7pm with free pool during that 3-hour window of time. If you enjoy shooting pool, then this is definitely your place. You'll see amateurs all the way up through some of Tampa very best players, and everyone is having a great time. The action at the tables is fun, and the full bar plus a good kitchen equals a nice evening. No one will get in your face an hassle you, but expect to hear wild cheering if you're able to successfully run the table.

This place was a surprising visit after the movie theatre across the street. It had a good vibe with some intriguing drink specials. I ordered chicken wings and was they were pretty good. Not the best wings I've ever had, but they weren't disappointing. They also have connect 4 and jenga to play.

Best place to play pool and have fun with my friends. Very friendly staff! Had a blast!

Cheap pool on Sundays. Owner is nice and food is above average for pub grub. Clean and non-smoking. It wasn't busy when we went but they only have about 8 tables, so it could get busy on weekends. Open late, swing by after you catch a movie and you won't be dissapointed.

What a bore on a Friday night! The bartender doesn't know anything I asked. The food smelled good but who's eating at this hour? Pppfftttt

Stopped in here one afternoon to scout it out and see if it was a place worth planning a night out with friends on the weekend. Unfortunately, I came out of there immediately trying to find a better option for Saturday night. Honestly, the place seemed more than a bit shady to me on first impression. While very nice to answer my questions, the employee clearly looked and sounded intoxicated...at 2:30pm in the afternoon on a weekday. And never have I seen a place that charges per person to play pool. Yes, per person. So, it is not $7 per hour to play pool at night...unless you play by yourself of course and really need to make some friends. For two people, it is $14 per hour to play after 7pm. If you have 3+ people, the charge peaks at $16 per hour. When I play pool, I always prefer to play by the game using quarters as most of us have done our entire lives. At a per hour charge, a maximum of $10-$12 is about what I think it is worth...and it should not matter how many people are playing. I simply don't understand that at all. They do run a lot of specials on drinks, food and pool (at other times), but this is not a place my friends and I would feel comfortable visiting after dark. Besides, it may be "just across the street" from Boston's and the AMC movie theater, but it is not walkable from that complex and isn't helped by being right next to an Amscot.

Nice loungey atmosphere where you can shoot billiards and play darts. I love how this place is non smoking! Food was decent, service was pretty slow. I went on Friday night and there appeared to be one server taking care of the entire place. Would check this place out again if im in the area.

It is not exaggerating to say my husband and I fell in love over a pool table. We had a standing pool date once a week and had quite a bit of fun being terrible at pool but enjoying drinks and getting to know each other. Our old pool hall closed and we'd been talking about finding a new place for ages. It can't get much easier than this little gem on Anderson - minutes from our house and one of the nicest pool halls we've seen. We are both smokers (in progress on becoming ex-smokers) but we both LOVE the fact Barley's is non-smoking, as it makes for a much nicer experience and they have a smoking area outside with some tables and umbrellas. Barley's offers great discounts and specials on drinks and pool/dart play and we chose to visit on Sunday ($4 per hour pool all day). We both indulged in a few drinks as well and Barley's had a large selection of beers and ciders and I was pleased with my special well whiskey and coke. After chatting the barkeep, I learned they'd run out of their "well" brand so he'd been giving me Crown and Coke for the well price. No complaints here! Their pool tables and equipment are all new and in good shape and I rather like the look of blue rather than green felt. We had spent a pleasant few hours with our little physics experiments. The vibe of the place is relaxing and while they had sports on a number of TVs, the volume was kept to an unobtrusive level. Sundays also feature $5 loaded nachos and fries. We went for the nachos and they were AMAZING! The cheese was absolutely "cheese with a z" but that sort actually melts well and makes for lovely nachos. The beans were tasty and the chips were crisp and perfectly salted. We made note of their other weekly specials and will have to come back to check out $5 burgers on Monday or their $2 Taco Tuesdays. Overall - one of the best spots for food, drink, and a great game of pool I've ever visited!

My boyfriend and I came to Tampa to go to the Florida Aquarium and, being one of those people who likes to pre plan everything about a trip, I found this nifty little place right next to our hotel. I was intrigued by the "free pool and darts" that I saw on the daily specials section of their website and the pictures I saw made it look like a pretty nice place. We walked in and I was surprised by how empty it was on a night with free entertainment but not put off at all by the quiet. We realized immediately from the chalkboard that we actually had to spend $5 each at the bar to play for free. This wasn't a problem at all as we were planning on drinking anyway. We arrived around 5:45 and as the night went on the place started to populate. We played a game of pool and four games of darts. The dart machine was still taking money but our server, Sara R., gave us all the quarters we needed to play until it ended at 7. The only reason I'm giving the place 4 stars instead of 5 is that there were not real tables to eat at except high tops, which is cool but we kinda wanted to have a more intimate dinner. All in all, nice place, nice staff, fun times!

The nicest and cleanest pool halls. Service is great and the food is good. Plenty of HDTVs to catch any game. It is also non-smoking inside which is a big plus. They do have an outside area for smokers.

The tables are well taken care of even if there are some awkward shots to be found. A surpisingly good place to watch a game. Cool food specials, the drink specials not so much. Service is good, and I like that they keep the table games out for a change of pace. I haven't had a nacho, burger, or wing here I didn't like! A taco seared my face off once but it was a spicy and delicious way to be mamed I suppose.

Very nice little pool hall directly across the street from the AMC Veteran's 24 on Anderson (next to Subway). They only have 5 or 6 tables, but they are regulation size and balanced like a mofo! Very nice, brand new tables, good vibe, great music selection, beer on tap, and a whole host of specials on the menu ($2 Taco Tuesdays for one). It's worth mentioning that they have FREE pool on Sundays until 7 PM. No smoking inside! Tired of playing pool? No worries because along the back wall sits a long counch with various board games (Connect Four, Checkers, Jenga, etc.) that one could play. The staff was a little stand-offish in my opion, but I'm okay with that. We weren't there to socialize with the staff anywho. However, if they're working for tips, they may want to brush up n the people skills a tad. Other than that, no real gripes! We're going back this Friday =) P.S. They do service cues. UPDATE------------- The food is good! Had a BBQ Steak & Cheese sammich, fries and 10 Sweet & Spicy wings; all mouth-watering! The steaks was super tender and heavily-coated in cheese, served on a sourdough bagguette. The fries are season with something spicy... chili powder maybe? Good stuff either way. And the wings were massive and de-freaking-licious! Order them "extra crispy." Also, service has been outstanding since the first visit.

This is a tough one. It is one of the nicest pool halls I have seen. It also has big screen tv''s all along the back wall for watching any sporting event you want. I was surprised with Green Iguana across the street they didn't have better beer and wine prices. I was not there during happy Hour, so unsure of that, but from what I have been told, nothing special price wise. When I order house wine out ( and that was the only option) and don;t get at least 1/2 a glass, I have a problem, I don't care what the price is, so okay they are stingy on wine, but the bartender was great and very nice. The BBQ steak sandwich was on special for $5.00, I got that with some thing removed, making it a Philly cheese steak. It is small, like 7" on a decent roll, NOT packed with steak, under seasoned and cheese laying on top 1/2 melted, it was small. . There were plenty of fries, they were NOT spicy, they were not greasy, they were decent fries, nothing special. What really surprises me is the menu, it had the dumplings and eggrolls, with different Ingredients than the Iguana. They have dishes with ingredients you don't usually come across, especially in a pool hall pub, like ell sauce! I was happy to see the variety on the menu and had a hard time deciding what to eat.Since I changed their sandwich I can"t really judge it fairly, so I am not going to factor it into this review I am very happy to find out there is another option for food and drink in that area. The menu looks very inviting and there were several thing I want to sample. The wine was okay, not bitter or anything. I hadn't played pool in years and really enjoyed it. Yes, I will go back, I really think Barley's has a lot of potential, people just need to find out it exists! Hey if you check in there you get a free domestic draft, since I don't usually drink beer a fellow patron was happy to accept my beer. What's a girl to do? Try, try again and if things fail the second time, go somewhere else.

This is a fun spot to bring some friends and have a fun Friday night! The sushi was not all that great but they had plenty of TVs to watch the game & I'm okay with that! I live right next to this place so I'm sure I will make a comeback soon!

I give this place a 4 out of 5 simply because its smaller than i expected, but it was all made up by the awesome food they have!!! the burgers OMG can i say more? the bun super soft the patty you can tell that it was hand pressed and seasoned perfectly!!! the waitresses were observant and were always around to make sure we were taken care of. I liked that it was a little more than casual its a place i can go and dress up and not feel out of place yet feel so laid back enough to enjoy a round of pool.

Giving this place a 4! Went there for the first time with the spouse and friends. My two favorite things about this pool hall were; the cleanliness (and as a female, I appreciated that the bathrooms were clean, always a plus) and there was NO SMOKING! I don't play pool often, so I don't know if the prices to play are good or not, hut we had a good time. I'll definitely go back and try their food as well sometime. I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot, too.
