Had a couple tacos here today for lunch. The restaurant is inside a Mexican grocery store. Its simple, clean and the staff was friendly. I had a lunch of three tacos. The chips and salsa were pretty good, the waitress brought out two kinds of salsa. The salsa verde was hot, but flaming. My tacos were decent, lots of fresh Mexican cheese, not the salty stuff, just fresh crumbly cheese that melted a little. They filled me up and I didn't even have more then a bite of the rice and beans. The beans were lame, had a off taste, they were either old or from a cheap can.

I am very surprised I have not written a review of this place yet but have been here many times. Located in Sanford in somewhat of a bad area in a old ran down plaza is this place called "Tortilleria La Mexicana" a Mexican store with a restaurant that sells all types of Mexican grocery's and meats. Also next door is a restaurant that serves food but I am yet to try it out. The place is very old inside and it looks like its falling apart actually the whole plaza looks very very old and also on my most recent visit a couple of weeks ago the place smelled horrible in there and there was barely any lights inside something that was like that before were the lighting inside is very poor, also the selection of Mexican goods they sell is horrible compare to some of the other places in Apopka and being Mexican I know when i see a place that has good stuff, the only reason I came here is because this is the only Mexican shop that sells my authentic Japanese peanuts (Cacahuates Japoneses). The staff is friendly and help full but last time I when they were moving next door and they did not have much left to buy. Three stars , not the best place but some what OK. They could be better or learn from there sister store's) in Apopka.

Authentic if only because gal who took my order barely spoke English. I opted for the fish tacos, mostly because they looked great in the menu and also because it was easy to just point and say "Just like this, please." And it was. Hot fish, tangy sauce, crunchy cabbage. Everything a fish taco is supposed to be. Yum! The decor could use some freshening and the table cloth was not very clean. But the food? Oh, yes. Si!

Authentic dive Mexican, say my Mexican friends. We ordered take away and one of our tacos was refrigerator cold but withstanding, everything else was really good. Cheap too. Salsa was special.

Ummm... Stale chips and only one other table had people during lunch time. When we asked for fresh chips, the waitress said that was all they had. We left and didn't venture any further.

Will return for sure! We arrived and the juke box was loud and there were four dudes at the bar enjoying a drink after a long days work. We seated ourselves and were presented with tough chips and strangely sweet salsa. Everything got better from there. Chimichanga, sopa de Marisco, and Chilaquiles were divine. Waitress was friendly and atmosphere was "hole in the wall". We will definitely return.

For me this is one of those places you really want to like and feel like you "discovered." And Sanford needs a great Mexican restaurant but it was not meant to be on our particular occasion. We figured it would be fun to spend our Cinco de Mayo here and try something new. We were very much enticed by the 2 for 1 margaritas but they were awful. I liked the chips but another member of our party didn't care for the salsa - too tomato-y. I ordered a burrito which was average. The meat was dry. Someone else found a bone in theirs. Those that ordered tacos were also unimpressed. The service was slow and we tried to remedy the terrible margaritas with a bucket of Dos Equis. However the waitress dropped off the bucket with no ice. What's the point of a bucket then? It was just very odd to me that we were the last to leave at barely 9pm too. Maybe it was an off night (but on Cinco de Mayo?). I would be willing to try again sometime in the future maybe. Just the consensus from the group was not good and a couple people felt a little ill.

I cone here many times a week and usually always get the same thing. The girls are super nice and the food is great. It's my go to lunch spot. Plus the market is right next door!

Love the cheap food and drinks here. Chips and salsa is not the best, but the tacos are pretty decent and for $1.50 you can't beat that. I usually order the Carnitas tacos and a large fruit drink. The fruit drink is something everyone should try, it is delicious! Tastes like a Mexican ice cream but in a drink form. My hubby always gets the 2 for 1 margaritas which are very strong and the special is any time of day.

Food is always fresh and chips are homemade! If you enjoy spicy, make sure to ask for the salsa verde.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
