Visited Sandestin Resort with friends and usually have at least one meal at Baytowne during our stay. We decided on Agave Azul because my friend had a craving for Mexican. Wish I would have changed her mind...........I've never reviewed a restaurant online before, but I owe it to future guests of Sandestin to stay away from this place at all costs. I won't go into the details, but after 45 minutes and the waiter still hadn't taken our entree orders, I asked for the check and we left. Shame on Sandestin Resorts for letting Agave Azul operate on their property. Your guests deserve better.

First visit on 5/24/14. No wait on a Saturday night which is great for Sandestin. Queso and salsa were great- the best ever according to the teens. Quesadillas, flag burrito and tacos baja all quite good. Great service. Don't pass this up if you're in the area.

We stopped by here for our last meal in Destin, wow, what a mistake! At first everything went well, our server was friendly, the chips and salsa was good and our drinks were great. We ordered dinner and it came out promptly, however they messed up my meal. Which they quickly fixed since the restaurant was completely empty. While eating the salsa I noticed a rubber band in it. I pulled it out and thanked god my kids didn't choke on it (it was small). I told the waiter and he said he'll talk to the manager. So, a man walks over to the table (who we thought was the manager) and starts asking us lots of questions about our ethnicity and if we knew what cilantro was. He explained the rubber band probably fell off the cilantro and it wasn't from someone's mouth. Well, thanks for bringing that to our attention idiot! I didn't think it was from someone's mouth, but now that's something to keep in mind. Lol! So, after being insulted by the idiot the waiter comes over again and I explained how the manager was incompetent and made us more upset than we were before. He told me that's not the manager but a local. (What!!??). I told the waiter to send over the manager. The manager finally comes over and his first words were , "What's the issue?" Clearly he knew the issue and didn't want to deal with us. I explained the situation and he says to me, "The local guy came over to help the situation because my English isn't so good and what do you want me to do about this?" I told him I want an apology and to acknowledge they made a mistake for dropping a rubber band in our food. I got no apology and told the manager I would make sure and write a review on his horrible customer service. If I could give this restaurant negative stars I would. The food wasn't very good either, stay away. There are so many better restaurants in the area with better service.

Chips and salsa came out great, kids meals arrived with just the poorest quality meat, didn't even compare to what adults got which was poor also, ceviche so over seasoned with celery salt, Carne asada just not great..simple food should be simply prepared...get a manager back there tasting..lots of money for poor quality..

We are staying in Baytowne Wharf and don't have a real reason to leave. This place was definitely a surprise after what seemed like a lackluster start. We were finally greeted after waiting a few minutes for anyone to approach us. The place was empty when we arrived so we were a bit concerned. My wife ordered the red white and green burrito and I ordered the grilled chicken nachos. Very, very good portions and the quality seemed very good. The nachos had a good amount of queso cheese on them along with enough grilled chicken to justify the additional cost. The burrito was huge and was very good. My wife had leftovers... I was a bit worried with the way it started but I think the time of day may have played part in that. If you like Mexican food and you are staying at Bayttowne Wharf this is a great choice.

The service was terrible! Waitress was unattentive. We had an insect on our chips and the manager (Hector) said, "that happens every 2-3 days. It's Florida!" Hector did not apologize or seem concerned. They did not comp us anything. The food was overpriced and nothing special. Terrible experience. Do not go there. Head over to Acme instead.

Based on the reviews this place seems to be binary for people...a 1 or a 0. I can definitively say it's a zero and I will never come back. It's in Baytowne Wharf so it's fundamentally touristy and the restaurant reflects that: high prices, mediocre food, and poor service. My wife and I shared the Combination Fajitas for the very high price of $22. We asked for chicken & shrimp with no steak. The shrimp was okay. The chicken was awful: very, very dry and tough as jerky. A significant amount of the onions and peppers were burnt so much they were inedible. The plate of fajitas came out with three (3) small flour tortillas. That is not enough for a plate of fajitas. Once we finally were able to track down a server asked for some more and 3 more eventually came. Once we got the bill I was shocked to find we were charged $1.10 for "Side of Tortillas"! So our below average fajitas turned into $23.10. YGBSM. Service: very inattentive. We were a small group and were (no kidding) the only people in the restaurant at 5:30 and people slowly filtered in after that so being "busy" can't be an excuse.

Hector was a great server! The quesadillas were pretty good although on the greasy side. It was one of the best meals I had while at the resort though. My coworker raved about the cervichi.

This place is horrible . The chips were terrible and the $8 queso was gritty like sand so bad I sent it back and the manager came out to argue with me in front of my children That was as far as we got and asked for the bill . We were the only table in there and the staff was on their phones the whole time . The one star is because the table was clean .

We came in right at close last week during our time in SanDestin and the two servers were happy to allow us to still sit at the bar and enjoy a drink. We really enjoyed talking with the bartender and hearing about the area and even though the kitchen was closed they asked if we wanted some chips and salsa with our beers. I thought it was such a relaxing fun environment and the guys working were so friendly. Gracias amigos!

Possibly the worst restaurant I have been to, ever. Everything from start to finish was just awful. Only reason it could possibly still be open is because tourists support it because they don't know any better. Saw the reviews prior to coming and should have known better! Steak quesadillas were made with what tasted like frozen Philly cheesesteak meat, their 'melted Monterey Jack' queso was just gross, chicken was plain. Taco Bell is better....

Great overall dining experience with delicious entrees, memorable outdoor atmosphere, and professional/friendly customer service. I gave this restaurant a choice based on poor service received at Hammerheads Bar n Grill. I have to say that this staff is levels above the other. I had the mahi taco, perfect patron with the complimentary chips n salsa. The taco was delicious with the mahi blackened to perfection. The perfect patron on the rocks served to my specific request. The server, Ozzy, routinely checked up to ensure I was totally satisfied. The only thing that held up this restaurant from 5 stars is the lack of ambience in the indoors section, the bar was dark and unattractive, and the restrooms need routine checking for general cleanup. Otherwise, the outdoor dining experience was great and ill definitely look forward to revisiting in the future. Thanks again to the Agave staff and Ozzy for the great experience and delicious meals n drinks.

We were there early April. Worst service I have ever seen. It took the hostess 10 minutes just to ask for how many in our party. After a few more minutes, she wrote our name down on a cocktail napkin. A few more minutes passed and she finally seated us. She had menus in her hand, but said she didn't have enough and left. 15 minutes later I had to track her down for menus. She gave us 2 for four adults and said she would be back with children's menus. Of course she never came back. The server did a decent job trying to make up for the slow beginning. When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm at best. I paid the 20% gratuity added to my check, not wanting my unhappiness to cost the server. There were two parties that arrived the same time we did and they ended up walking out. I should have done the same!

Possibly the worst Mexican food I've ever had! Should have yelped BEFORE we went in, instead of after.

The food was good however the Restaurant itself was absolutely not. Half way through our meal we realized there was a termite infestation happening directly behind us INSIDE the restaurant. 1000s of termites. Disgusting. Then when we showed the waiter he acted as though it wasn't a big deal at all. The restaurant has so much potential however the lack of concern and the bug infestation is enough to keep me away.

Blah. Had the mahi tacos. Very skimpy on the fish. A little salty. Chips and salsa were weak. Salsa had way too much cilantro in it. Service was okay, but... Wouldn't go back.

I stopped in for a beer and stayed for a few. The taps are ice cold and the pint glasses are frozen. The only did I tried was chips and salsa. The house Margarita is very good. A heavy pour on the tequila, and fresh lime juice. This is a great place to escape the heat and have an ice cold beer. They had three taps. Dos xx, Negro Modelo, and Pacifico. They also have a great tequila selection and feature several flavors of margaritas if that is your thing.

Nothing to write home about. I actually enjoyed the alcoholic beverages I had better than the food. None of the food we had was standout in any way. Quite average fare.

I don't understand why the two reviews posted are negative. Good ambiance, good service, good ceviche and tacos. What's not like? We will definitely be back again!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
