Gosh you think my review sums it up 4 years ago but still what can I say it's the best! Fajitas tamales etc... I still find one of the most authentic Mexican food around not Tex-Mex not trying to be definitely Mexican food and very homey like being in your mother's kitchen

Having moved here from California where authentic Mexican taquerias are on nearly every street corner, it was a welcome relief to finally find one here. This is the type of place to come to strictly because you like this type of food, no bells and whistles. Food is simple, the menu limited, the staff friendly and helpful. We had beef tacos and pork tamales. Both were served with a small amount of rice & refried beans. The taco's were how we remember from CA. Shredded beef on two white corn tortillas. That's it! (This is so not Taco Bell!) The pork tamales were small, but delicious. The masa was moist, not dry at all. They put a bowl of raw onion with cilantro and a bowl of green tomatillo sauce on the table to "spice" up your meal. And spice it did! That tomatillo sauce was HOT! We got a couple bottles of diet coke and all this cost us $13. We could have eaten more, but this was just enough so we could stop by for our favorite ice cream shop for dessert on the way home. We are going to buy some carnitas and tamales to bring home next time. Make our own beans and rice, and smother it in our favorite red sauce. Mmmmm, getting hungry already! Give this little mommy poppy place a shot, you won't be sorry !

As a previous reviewer stated, "by Mexicans, for Mexicans." That statement sums it up perfectly. The building leaves much to be desired. I probably would never have set foot in here if it weren't for the rave reviews of the food. As an American, I was a bit put off by the dusty wares, and empty shelves in this little market. But, I strode forward, with an obvious hesitation in my step that caught the attention of the gentleman behind the counter who was quick to list off food that they had. We asked what his favorite was, and that was the torte de milanesa. It's simply a sandwich of thinly sliced steak which has been breaded and deep fried. The sandwich is topped with lettuce and tomato, queso fresca, avacado and a number of other things. And it was downright delicious. We almost immediately ordered another one. We also got two tamales which were right on the money. Absolutely perfect. While we were there, there were two Latino familes that came in, some average Joe's like ourselves along with quite a few business men. It was an odd mix, but these people are obviously in the know. We almost went back the very next day.

Our culinary tour of south county continues as we had a quick lunch at La Casita. Holy Guacamole! This place is the real deal. If this place was closer to Taco Bus, the bus would roll onto another spot. This is authentic. 2 fajita (beef) tacos, rice, beans $6.50 with a diet coke from the cooler. Wife had 2 tamales the same way so we split and shared. No frills here, no chips and salsa, this is more like a Mexican deli than restaurant. The counter woman was very gracious and helpful. Yes, by Mexicans for Mexicans but we can enjoy too. Love this place.

"by Mexicans..for Mexicans"...but gringos are welcome too. Excellent authentic tacos. I tried the tacos de bistec y tacos al pastor... both in the true Mexican tradition of smaller corn tortillas with onion, parsley and lime. Que rico! No tex mex white washing here. This is not a full service restaurant, but rather a bodega and restaurant combined, so i'm not sure what service is like during peak hours. But since the food is authentic, it would be worth it.

Food is pretty good, but don't count on them for anything other than the food you order in the restaurant.. Ordered 60 tortillas and salsa for a party, when we went to get them they said sorry we don't have any tortillas and we can't make them for you. Kind of a problem since it was 2 hours before the party. Person who took the order wasn't there and the person who was there said she didn't get the order. They were appologetic and polite, but that didn't fix the problem.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
