The big tomato is a small restaurant on US1. They have pizza, wraps, paninis, and salads that come in a bread bowl. The pepperoni pizza was delicious! It's a deep dish style pizza and they make it really well! The philly panini was not very good. There was barely any meat on it and not much flavor. They also didn't put tomato on it when in the description it said it had tomato. The salads in the bread bowl were great. I tried a bit of the cob salad with ranch and the Greek salad with chicken added and both were delicious although I did find it a bit weird for a salad to be served in a bread bowl since most people choose salad as a lighter option. But nonetheless it was very good and I guess if you don't want the bread you don't have to eat it. All in all good restaurant with good food and pretty fast service.

What a difference. We ordered our free pizza from here last night after the fiasco we had at Mellow Mushroom and it was divine! They gave us the Great White that we had originally asked for, and I'm glad we gave it a second chance. They were having issues with the oven (and maybe this was the issue they were having last time? Not sure, but if so they should have told us) so the pizza took a little longer to make. It was worth the wait. It was really good pizza and I'm glad that we got to taste what we should have gotten the first time around. It was cooked all the way through and really tasty. SO happy that I could update my review just a week later and turns out it was a fantastic experience. Thanks for the great customer service and for making sure the issue was resolved.

The whole reason I wanted to come here is because I read the rave reviews about the whole wheat crust, so I come here . . . AND FORGET TO ORDER THE WHOLE WHEAT CRUST!!! Ugh, of course!!! I was starving, though, and a little overwhelmed by the options! Still, my husband & I decided on a 10" "most popular" and took a seat. I believe we got our pizza in under 10 minutes or so, which was great. I do think that almost $10 is a little much considering the size of the pizza, but it's made fresh, totally customizable and tastes really good! We will be back and next time I will remember to order the whole wheat crust! Oh & they have a M-Th lunch special from 3-5pm that is only $5, which is a much better price! Great deal!

This is my go to place when I don't want to cook and/or there are no groceries in my house. This little treasure in the heart of pinecrest is where you want to go if you're in the mood for delicious gourmet pizzas. If pizza with red sauce gives you heart burn like it does me, then you have GOT to try the Pesto Passion Pizza with Gorgonzola, pesto and mozzarella. Out of control. If red sauce doesn't reek havoc on the lining of your stomach then the megabite pizza is def the way to go. Now, the unsung hero of this place is their panini selection. My favorite is the Turkey Supreme and the sauce that comes with it. WOW. But all of their paninis are great.

Awful, awful experience! Came by for lunch and the lady at the front was the absolutely WORST! First, she talked to you like you're being a bother. I understand that it's busy, but I'm your customer and you can at least greet me. Secondly, I ordered the "traditional" pizza with GF crust. She didn't give me the detailed receipt so I assumed she got it right. She came back and gave me a pizza with large tomato chunks and pineapple which I hate hot pineapple. She goes and says "that's what you told me." No it's not! I know exactly what I ordered and I would never order the "original" with pineapple. I always get the traditional. I ask her just to pack it up bc I'm sure there's someone on the street that could eat it. She goes and complains to the other people working there that I ordered the wrong pizza. No ma'm you placed the wrong order. Also, I asked for her to share the wifi password and you couldn't even understand what she said because of her attitude. Absolutely ridiculous. I spent $18 for NOTHING! 20 minute wait and 5 minutes of rude and inexcusable attitude. After having such a great first experience I will NEVER come back here again. I suggest that the owner find someone who actually likes to talk to people and focuses on customer service because you're going to lose more customers with her around. Done.

It's a pie, not a pizza! At least that's what the menu said. These are kinda like a cross between regular Italian pizza and Chicago Deep Dish. They are baked in pie shells so they are thicker than normal but not so dense like an Uno's. There is some crunch to the crust and lots of chew too. Dab off the grease on top where it has conveniently pooled and you are good to go. The sauce is slightly sweet and fresh. Tons of baked cheese and that crust. What's not to love. They make other things, sandwiches, soups salad and such. One day I will try one.

Came here for a quick bite to eat. I have passed this place for years and never stopped to try it. My SO and I shared a cheese pie. The first thing I noticed when we got our pie was the amount of grease pooled at the top. I am not talking just a bit...I am talking about a significant amount. I took lots of napkins and proceeded to blot as much as I could off of it. I feel guilty enough about eating pizza! After that it was just plain goodness. It was cheesy and saucy. The crust was on the thicker side and had a nice crunch and chew. The other items on the menu sound really good. Looking forward to going back and trying some.

The food at Big Tomato is delicious! ! It does take a while for the food come out, but that is because it is very fresh. No complaints here! I do recommend calling your order in ahead of time. I love their salads, paninis and pizza pies!

If you're looking for some healthier pizza options, this is the spot. For an additional $1.50 you can opt in having a whole wheat deep dish pizza crust. The veggie topping choices are practically endless, the pizzas are oven baked, and they use many organic ingredients. Two thumbs up in our book!

There's SOMETHING about their pizzas that I really like. I've been to Big Tomato in Pinecrest twice now for take out. I have been extremely satisfied both times. On my last visit I ordered: - Triple Cheese Pizza (10"): - Pepperoni Pizza (10"): Both pizzas were awesome, there's something about them that I can't exactly put my finger on that I enjoy so much. Big Tomato pizzas are one of my top choices for pizzas. They're not deep dish and they're not new york style... they're somewhere in between. -Jalapeno and Cheese Mini-Loaf: Plenty of Jalapenos, nice and spicy. Also has plenty of cheese. -Cheese and Herb Mini-Loaf: Packed with gooey cheese. The min loafs are frickin awesome! They're under $4 but they're so thick and full of cheese. The mini loafs are a great value, i'm a huge fan of those. - Reese's Peanut Butter Pie- This was amazing. The only downfall was the small ass slice that it is sold in. I HATE small ass portions.. and this cheesecake was a small ass portion. But the flavors were so frickin good I want to order it again. Supposedly they get this pie form somewhere in Coral Springs. The lady in the front was rather rude when I asked if they made their desserts in house or ordered them from somewhere. She mentioned twice with attitude they just get it from "somewhere in Coral Springs". Could't even verify if they ordered it from a bake shop or something? Just... "somewhere in Coral Springs".

I just visted this location for some takeout yumminess . The food looks amazing , however .... I ordered 35.00 worth of food . Tipped 5$ even though it was takeout . They forgot to give me my salad . I had to turn around to pick it up. When I asked for extra dressing for the salad that the young lady forgot to give me she told me she had to charge me for it . Where is the customer service ?! Looks like the first and last time I come here

I should not be eating this bread bowl but I can't resist! This place is amazing, never had the pizza but the salads are always delicious and fresh. I love their lemon vinagrette .. SO GOOD! Cant resis the bread bowl even though I should.. but whatever, a little carbs never killed any one

Great pizza . Very flavorful . Fresh ingredients . Good mom and pop type of place. Been eating here for a while . Highly recommended .... And I prefer thin crust so go and check it out. Toodles

There was a woman working sunday july 5th in the after noon with terrible customer service. After placing my pick up order she just says bye and hangs up. When I get to the restaurant I sit down. The place is empty. She does not look at us or say anything. After 15 mins I say hello. Our order was ready the whole time we were ready. It was amazing that a place in Pinecrest could run like that.

Having closed their Kendall and 107th location, this place is still chugging along. This was my first introduction to "gourmet pizza". The pies come in two sizes, 8 and 10 inch I believe. Being a big guy I always opt for the 10 incher. They are not your typical pizzas, they offer odd but delicious flavor combos like jerk chicken and even a Thai peanut pizza. They have classic pies as well, but what's the fun in that! The ingredients are wonderfully fresh and the taste is outrageous! Not sure what's in the crust, but it's amongst the best I've had! They can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality and the fact you can't find anything like it in the area. They also make wraps and salads that have always looked good, but I have never tried them. If I'm in the area and get a craving for pizza. This is my go to spot!

I don't understand why this got several positive reviews. I have had excellent pizza from Chicago top notch pizzerias called Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, and UNOs pizza. I also make great dish pizza myself. This place got me very disappointed. The mozzarella they use is low quality, the bread is not to flavorful, toppings quality such as sausage is bad as well. The only positive thing that I can give is the fluffiness of the bread. Unfortunately, I will not come back to this place. I wish you guys the best.

What's not to love about Big Tomato? They have fresh salads, wraps, paninis and pizza. The lemon cookies are the best!

I have eaten at this Big Tomato at least 20 times over the years, maybe more & can honestly say I have never had a bad pizza from them. Whenever I get tired of the boring generic pizza places I come here. As mentioned by a fellow yelper, it's not Chicago Deep Dish, it's Miami Deep Dish! The pizza is great & has a taste unlike any other pizza I have had before. I love the cheese, the crust, & the portion sizing. This location is very clean & the staff is very friendly. For a healthier choice, give the wheat crust a try. A heads up, they don't just do pizza. Take a look at their menu, they have a whole lot of wraps & panini style choices as well as soups.

  • Ruben I.

It's the way they stack the cheese so that your teeth have plenty of chewiness to sink into and how they bake that crust so that it crackles on every bite of those baby deep dish pizzas that make this my favorite pizza joint in South Miami. They might not be full on deep dish pizza and someone with a big appetite might handle one of those 10" with ease, but half of one, about three scrumptious slices, usually does the job for me. I've never not been happy after a Big Tomato feast.

  • Claudia L.

Ordered the Big tomatoes popular pizza pie and was disappointed after reading all the great reviews. I was hoping for a "life changing" pizza as one user described. Unfortunately the dough was greasy the cheese was extremely rubbery and there was an overall weird taste to the pizza. Also had the key lime pie it was pretty tasty.

Being from Chicago, it's hard to find deep dish pizza down here that will make me happy (other than shipping in from Giordano's!),. But The Big Tomato comes very close. The pizzas are slightly thinner than what one would consider deep dish, and the crust is a little softer. But they are incredibly tasty, and do hit the spot. FYI: this is a small place, best visited alone or with a small group. Also, skip the bread bowls!

  • Albert R.

This place offers a deep dish style pizza which will cure any deep dish pizza craving but it isn't a true Chicago deep dish so don't expect that. There is ALOT to pick from as far as topping combinations. Very tasty but a little too greasy. Definitely worth a try.

2 words = life changing Look, I don't usually write reviews, but I had to log in to give this place the credit they deserve. I had the pesto passion pizza, my wife had the turkey something something panini, and we also shared cheesy garlic bread. As I lay on my couch with a full stomach, all I can say is.... I can die a happy man right now.

Pizza went from excellent to just ok since the original owners left. The new owners aren't as friendly and interactive with guests. Pizza is still ok, but it's just missing that extra touch

Was told by some friends about this place and it's healthy pizzas so I gave it a try because I haven't ate pizza in a loooong while. Had the whole wheat sweet sunshine 8" pizza. The pizza was very fresh indeed with the fresh spinach, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, feta cheese, pepperoni and fresh garlic. It was exploding with flavor as well as very filling. Overall I was very satisfied and it lives up to its name of being a gourmet pizza. My only complaint is that it was a little salty. Highly recommend it and there staff are very knowledgeable.

    (4)
  • Lauren S.

Really really tasty! The pizza is full of exciting flavors and there are tons of options. All the ingredients are fresh. It's deep dish, but crispy at the same time. I haven't had anything but the pizza; however, their salads and paninis look amazing and are next on my list. Great job! Def' going back!

AMAZING. If you didn't give it 4 or 5 stars, I am convinced you didn't try the jalapeno cheese loaf. It is AMAZING! Gooey, crispy cheesy edges, spicy jalapenos, perfect seasoning - all describe this amazing bread. You must devour within 10 mins of it coming out. The pizza - It is deep dish goodness. Perfect pizza for when you are craving sinful food. I quite like the Thai Chicken. Exciting Italian, and their new spinach goat cheese pizza - to die for!!!! Their Whole Wheat crust is not bad either. *Sigh* So good...

Don't be fooled by the location, the scummy looking strip club next door or the size of the place. This PIZZA ROCKS!!! Tomato sauce is fresh...right level of sweetness...the cheese was perfect...crust was light, airy and tasty. Awesome Pizza.

My review is based solely on the ORIGINAL HIGH ROLLER. I've been going for years and is so good it's the ONLY thing I ever order. Service is always friendly and the place is always clean.

A good break from the norm, The Original Big Tomato serves up some of Miamis best deep dish pizza. Most the pies are in a personal size around a twelve inches and also a medium pie if you want to share. They have a wide selections of toppings and specialty pizzas to choose from. They also have a bunch of soups and sandwiches on the menu and some good drinks like Dr. Browns soda. Its mostly take out here but they have seating for about ten people. If you feel like you need a break fron NY style slices and want some good deep dish this is the spot

The best pizza in Miami!! I completely agree with fellow yelpers, this is not Chicago deep dish it's Miami deep dish pizza!! My beloved is from Chicago and has been searching for a deep dish pizza in Miami and our search is over, thank you Big Tomato! The whole wheat crust is to die for!!! The sauce is perfection and ordering is a breeze with all of their best topping combos made for you already. The restaurant is right off of Dixie highway and if you blink you'll miss it! We popped in on a Saturday evening and the little store front was buzzing with orders being called in and a few young couples with their children eating in. Big tomato is not a restaurant you are waited on or can enjoy a glass of wine with your hot date. Still we had a very enjoyable time... We came in ordered at the counter and sipped our coke zeros. Shortly after they brought over our two pies with paper plates and plastic utensils. The pizza was FANTASTIC!! And the staff was excellent. We will definitely be back!

This place was pretty good. The pizza was thick flavorful and made fresh. Nothing amazing just really good. The service was OK. The lady gave me a little bit of. An attitude when I asked for blue cheese and ranch. I wouldn't of mind paying extra for them, but could do without the attitude. Restaurant looks like a hole in the wall, very tiny, but definitely worth the stop! The have awesome vegetarian options!

  • Jason Z.

Not a big deep dish guy and it took about 90 minutes to deliver so perhaps my perception is skewed a bit. Crust is pretty good but the cheese is downright repulsive. Pretty much resembled the finished product of something that would come out of the freezer. Toppings and sauce solid. Probably a solid 4 - 4.5 on a scale of 10.

i lived in miami for a long time and i loved coming to this place, even when i go on vacation i always make sure i stop by. i always get their original roller which is delicious and i also love their Tangy thai pizza pie which is nice and spicy.

Small, cute, individually sized pizzas. Good for a quick fix of PAN pizza that isn't from Pizza hut. Although this place seems to be mainly for take-out, they do have a few tables inside. I had the Veggie pizza and it was just ok. Maybe I should've just stuck with a traditional cheese pizza.

  • Emma M.

I came here in search of deep dish pizza. I didn't find that. What I found was this really awesome fluffy-crusted pizza that's not quite deep dish, but something entirely different. There crust is almost like a baguette. It's big and doughy. It's good. My only complaint is that the tomato sauce was lacking in seasoning. Sitting inside I noticed that they have this mission statement about opting for low-fat, low-sodium, low-whatever products wherever they can. And, while commendable, I feel like it's rather at odds with what they do. I mean, they sell these big, bread-heavy pizzas and salads inside of bread bowls, for crying out loud. If I was looking for something healthy, low-fat, low-sodium, and low-whatever, I really wouldn't be coming to a pizza place. In any case, if this is the reason why the tomato sauce lacked in seasoning, then this mission is probably hurting them. Because there was really nothing healthy about what I ate besides the lack of salt. All in all, this was a good place. I'd stop by again for another pie to share with a friend.

Salads, delish pizza, roll ups and soup. My favorite is the "Big Tomato Chef Salad" which is served in a terribly delicious bread bowl and with lemon herb garlic, this is the best salad I know. The mushroom Brie bisque is so flavorful and creamy - I'm not a soup person and I love this soup. They have a variety of soft drinks (my fav is the IBC root beer in a bottle). The service is not lightening fast But everything is made fresh in the kitchen and it's worth it. They are located in pinecrest and do deliver.

Want a simple good pizza that is priced well and the owner's are cool people. This is no great wine and dine but nice take out or quick bite. Best pizza is the Italian pizza.

Incredible pizza! I live around the kendall area so it was a bit of a drive to arrive, but considering all the hype this place has, TOBT was the choice of my serious pizza craving I had all week... and finally, the "fix" of my wondrous pizza dreams was fulfilled!!! I got the Megabite in LG size. First of all.....holy s&@#!!! The whole wheat crust is absolutely fantastic! The mozzarella cheese BEGGED you to pick apart the pizza by hand, allowing you to witness it's melty texture and good-smelly prowess. The pepperonis are amazing as they hit the oven , resulting in a heavenly texture of crunchiness that syngerized with the baked chicken and the mushrooms almost flawlessly...omg...I couldn't stop salivating once the slices of pizza reached the insides of my mouth. the Big Tomato Sauce was scrumptious, and.... just delicious. Powerful aroma, pizza is lighter in weight than it looks when it's served, but insanely ridiculous! Every bite was awesomeness, and it was one of the best stuffings I ever had with pizza. Definitely coming back, best 14$ I've spent on a pizza in a longgg time.

  • Eschel H.

This is really just a take-out operation (although they do have a few small tables). It's really simplicity. Just good, simple pan pizzas. But what they do, they do right. This is some of the best pan pizza to be had in Miami, and they've got quite a variety offered. They also make salads in a bread bowl that are a tasty addition. Word to the wise: they added a second location recently in Miami Springs, 1 Westward Dr. (At The Circle) Miami Springs, Fl 33166

Hadn't been here in a while but my son felt for pizza & I didn't feel like eating from any of the regular pizza chains so I ended up at Big Tomato!! It was as good as I remember! Had the large #3 & #9 without jalapenos. Delicious!!

Not just pizza. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had so many options. I went in to use my dealtificate voucher. I bought 3 pizzas. All were delicious. The staff is friendly and the location is small but quaint. I tried the wheat crust pizza and was surprised at how good it was. I recommend the original with cheese.

This spot is probably one of my top 3 pizza places in Miami as of now. The way their pizza is baked can only be called art. It is perfectly toasted around the edges, and there is really no crust. It is sort of a hybrid of the crust, but it still retains some cheese and sauce. Oh, the sauce. Their Big Tomato sauce is fresh and compliments the pizza nicely. Their toppings are plentiful, but don't overwhelm the cheese/sauce/bread. Basically, the ratio of everything on the pizza is very well put. The pizza comes out extremely hot, so I waited a few minutes before digging in. I ordered the Sweet Sunshine Pie, which was made up of fresh garlic, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, mozzarella, Italian and goat cheese. The pizzas come in small and large sizes. The small is about 8", and the large -- 10". The large always costs about a dollar more. They don't offer any larger sizes as far as I know, but maybe they do some kind of special orders for large groups. The only downside to this place is the fact that all the soda is in a can. I'd like a fountain drink, or maybe the option to buy a larger drink. Another small con is the $10 or $15 minimum for credit cards. They also have a website, so Google them, and take advantage of their special offers and coupons. If you become a fan on facebook, you get some freebies, like for example, when I went, you could get a free wrap with the purchase of a large pizza. Not bad, eh? Oh, one other thing. The place is a bit small, so don't bring a group of 15+ people.

Saturday, early afternoon and hungry. We decided to order the big tomato. Maybe it was my poor menu choice or the fact that the delivery took long but I wasn't at all impressed. I wasn't even satisfied... my pizza crust was greasy, my toppings were under seasoned and the soup was salty. meh, maybe I will, maybe I won't give them another try.

Been eating here for a couple years, really love their salads. Have had the pizza too and it is always good. It is a small operation but that is what I love about it, great people that run this place and they make some great food.

It is great deep dish pizza although I think it is the only deep dish pizza in Miami. The sit down area is small and not high end but worth the visit if you like deep dish pizza.

Best gourmet pizza in town. Fresh veggies and other ingredients. Not greasy. Excellent deep dish crust and flavorful sauce. They don't add too much salt, so the flavors really come through. Whole wheat crust available. Great cheese and garlic bread loaves.

This is a small, unassuming pizza shop that totally won me & the wife over at lunch today. A Dealtificate brought us there, which was happily accepted. A twist from the usual, there were almost too many vegetarian options for my wife to pick from! I was happy with a traditional #3 and pepperoni. Plain and simple, the pies were cooked perfectly. I'm super-picky when it comes to thick crust pizza pies, mainly because the vast majority of places leave them undercooked. Big Tomato's pies were cooked through, with just the right amount of crispy golden-browned cheese and crust on the outside. I really need to emphasize how well the pies were cooked, because it's pretty darn hard to pull it off when there's as much vegetables inside as there was in my wife's "Incredible Vegible" pie. Hats off to them for that accomplishment. Service was friendly and prompt, the place was clean and comfortable. No complaints! Can't wait to go back!

I used to always frequent Big Tomato when they had one on Kendall Dr and 107 ave. It has been 8 years since then, until finally I came to the original Big Tomato. It was just as delicious as I had remembered. The pizza here is a little different but nontheless delicious! The chicken bbq pizza is just a special experience. They also have wraps, and salads.

  • Jack B.

Big tomato carefully crafts each handmade pie to be delicious. All the ingredients are fresh and you can taste them in every bite. Some people might say there is no such thing as a healthy pizza, but when you come here, you'll realize it can be done, especially on their whole wheat crust. Big Tomato also carries salads and wraps which are just as good as their pies. The salads and soups come in fresh baked bread bowls and the ingredients are just as good as the ones used for their pizzas. The physical location is small, maybe 4 tables, but if you're in the mood for a healthy and tasty pizza, salad or wrap, this is the place for you.

The Pizza is not worth the abuse. The owner is the worst. She is so rude that even the pizza can't get the bad taste out of your mouth.

Pricey!!!! A personal pie 8" MEGABITE with a fountain drink was $15.23!!!! :(. Nothing to write home about...the pizza looked tasty but it was "wet" from the tomatoes, bland like it needed seasoning or salt. Not good for 1 person, perhaps to share. Small pie is big enough to share, they do not sell individual slices. Place was clean and staff was courteous...closed on Sundays.

I dig this place. I probably hit it up once every month or 2. I always get the sinful spinach pie. my favorite thing about the pizza is that the cheese is always well done. i LOVE that. the flavor is good too. they have a bunch of different pies as well as some salads (in bread bowls), wraps and paninis. this is good simple original and tasty food.

Fresh, delicious, friendly, different take on pizza. Mostly I get the Margarita that has artichoke on it, the Thai One - spicy but tasty, chicken pesto gorgonzola. I usually do not prefer pan pizza, but this place I crave.
