The restaurant was not busy, the service was slow and the food was just okay. The waitress was not very attentive and it was difficult to get her attention when she did come around. It took us an hour to receive our food. Also it would be helpful to have a full printed list of the alcoholic drinks served.

I've gone a few times with family and the experience has been pretty good! The waitress was super friendly and the food was perfect for the Fourth of July weekend. We ordered the Black Hammock Sampler (Florida style gator bites, frog legs, onion rings and coleslaw), a full rack of ribs, blackened Mahi Mahi tacos, and Bangin' Shrimp. We also got a free basket of corn fritters for checking in on Yelp. I was honestly surprised by how good the shrimp was - creamy with a bit of spice. I wish the Sampler had more gator (my favorite), but the frog legs were juicy and fried to perfection. Next time I'm definitely trying the gator tacos or poboy and getting the shrimp again. Yum!

Where do I start here? The service was subpar. The server didn't get our drinks until we ordered our meals. The water I ordered tasted so gross that I ordered Coke which was only a little better. It had a weird aftertaste. I wonder how long it's been since their soda machine has been cleaned... I ordered fried shrimp which was ok at best. The shrimp was mostly breading which was a disappointment because the entree was $16.99! I think the meal included 6 or 8 small shrimp. The salad that came with the meal had wilted lettuce that was pink and brown. I don't think I'll be back for food but definitely an airboat ride!

Went to lunch yesterday (Saturday) with 9 people. We belong to the Legion Riders out of South Daytona. We were seated immediately in the location of our choice. Our server Austin took our drink orders immediately. Meal orders were taken without delay. The food was good. I had pulled pork sandwich my husband had fried catfish. Shrimp and grits, gator and chicken were some of the other orders. Everyone said their meals were good. All in all a good experience. Service was outstanding

Yuck!! There were four of us that ate lunch there after an airboat ride and the food was not good. The service was very slow.

One of my favorite hole in the wall spots. Fun to walk around the grounds and see nature and wildlife. They have decent bar type food and airboat rides and gators. Great place for groups.

I took my family from Tennessee to eat there. The appetizers took about an hour to come out. The actual meal took another hour. The food is overpriced, but ok. There were some cool sights to see there, so I gave it an extra star.

Bottom Line Up front - This place is a great local dive, and I mean that in the best possible way! Great food, great service, great surroundings with a history and local flare not found in the city of Orlando. Just a short 20 minute drive from the University area this place is situated right on Lake Jesup which apparently boasts the largest concentration of Gators per acre in Florida - I haven't confirmed that tidbit but I did eat Gator there and it was great! The atmosphere is what you'd expect with 1960's era "Gator" attractions, Air boat rides, etc... The must go to is the restaurant which has decent seafood selection, mostly fried but not all, complete with souther specialties like catfish, shrimp and grits, hushpuppies, and the like. This was recommended to me by a local co-worker and I certainly pass on the recommendation to any one reading this review.

I came out to the Black Hammock a few weeks ago. My brother was in town with his new fiance from Texas and I wanted to show her a taste of Florida, which is exactly what we got at the Black Hammock. We made a day out of it with and air boat ride and drinks at the outback bar before dinner. Since this page is for the restaurant I'll skip ahead to our meal. I've heard friends and family complaint about service, but I thought our service was great. It was later in the evening, probably around 8 on a Saturday night, and the dining room was not crowded at all. As a matter of fact there were only 3 tables total sat with diners in our section. Service was spot on for me. I ordered the fried catfish and shrimp with homemade baked mac and cheese and a salad to start. Everything was delicious. The fish and shrimp were succulent and fried to perfection, not greasy at all, very light and crisp on the coating. The mac and cheese knocked it out of the park. It was fresh and creamy, not reheated and pasty like a lot of other restaurants boasting "homemade." The prices were very reasonable, too. Entrees ranged from $7.99 up to market price for the higher end fresh catches. I love this place and will definitely be back. The Black Hammock is a great place to come for a meal or to make a whole day out of the property's bars, entertainment and dining.

Great place to sit back and enjoy food and/drinks near nature. Food is good but not great. Sunsets are spectacular. I like coming here for a burger and a beer then enjoy the sunset by the lazy gator bar.

I like to come here on Sunday's with my family and listen to the music and watch the sunset. They have good deals on beer buckets and my dinner was fabulous. Laid back, low key, great environment and service. Wish I would've remembered my servers name he was the best.

If you want a "unique to Florida" restaurant, this is the place! I ordered Alligator bites as an appetizer & gator tacos as an entrée. Well cooked, very tasty. The only reason I did not rate with 5 stars is because the service is a little slow. There were only about 2 waitresses working for lunch, and it took a little while to get the check. Other than that, definitely a must-go if you want a unique Florida experience.

I can no longer enjoy this restaurant in good conscience. I live in oviedo and used to take any out of towner here to look at and eat gator here. Bottom line is they don't take care of their birds. My sister is a bird fanatic so she loves stopping to check on the parrots and the parakeets. We noticed 5 sick birds in different stages of decay; some were missing feet, others appeared blind in one eye, and their colors were faded. I stopped by a few months later since we did inform whoever we could about the neglect to see if they'd done anything. There were still sick birds so I left. As far as the food and atmosphere, that's where the second star comes from, it's a cool place but I can't support an establishment that neglects it's "attractions."

Fun, Casual, Local vibe !! Very friendly people and staff!! Just REALLY great food !! Hubby had the Salmon with Mac and cheese ...he said it was moist and smoky !! LOVED IT !! I had the shrimp and grits .. SO GOOD !! My first time having grits ... The Bangin Shrimp appetizer was REALLY YUMMY !! And the corn fritters were like a desert, very hot and tasty ..the bar was fun and had live music !!! We would definitely go back when we come back to Florida !!

Last 2 visits were horrible. The girls always act like they can't be bothered. We left because nobody ever acknowledged our table of four (last weekend). The lady at the table next to me said the girls had an attitude anyway. I won't be eating here any more. If you think you're above waitressing here, then quit. You give the place a bad rap.

  • Tammy B.

I seesawed between 3 and 4 stars and then remembered that while I hung out there last weekend I kept asking myself why I don't come here more often. The Black Hammock is a very interesting spot to sit and have standard American beers (Thank goodness they had Yuengling. They also have Guinness). The chicken fingers and fries I ate 3 stars; the friendly and prompt service 4 stars; and the outdoor atmosphere 5 stars. It's the kind of setting in which you get comfortable and relax with friends for a couple of hours.

Very good meal overall. We had a sampler to try to get a taste of everything. The gator bites surpassed my expectations, they were very good. The frog legs, which i tried here for the first time, weren't to my liking, but I've heard were very good from other people. The catfish was good as well; the fishiness tasted amazing. Very good place to eat lunch after an airboat ride.

Very slow service when only a couple other tables...brought appetizers w no napkins or silverware...had to seek out our own silverware and napkins. The food took an extraordinary amount of time to come and when it did, most of it was cold. Cold burger, cold Mahi mahi, cold fries...argh...not returning.

We had dinner at the Black Hammock last night and I can only tell you this place is a hidden gem. The wings were excellent, the grilled seafood platter was outstanding. The talapia with creamed mushroom sauce was deserving of a much fancier location. We have been out twice in the last month and I cannot tell you how much we have enjoyed this restaurant. The Cheese grits and shrimp were a Huge hit at our table as well as the Gator Tail Sub. It is well worth the trip out there. Also the service was excellent and friendly. The coffee (which is very important to me) was some of the best I have had at a restaurant that was not a coffee house. Best Key Lime pie around. All home made and the crust was to die for. Prices are reasonable and you get to have your picture taken with little Max the Alligator. Give a try if you have not been there recently. We will be back for the French Gourmet dinner with Escargot really soon.

Update 2.25.15.... Was contacted by owner and are going to give it another shot with the same party we went with. Will update my review once we try it again in next few weeks. Thank you to Joel for reaching out and trying to "right the wrongs"

I came out here on a whim because I was out picking strawberries down the road. I came with my 4 year old. He absolutely loved this place. They have live alligators and there was a guy walking around showing him to the children. Everyone was super friendly and professional about the alligators which was nice. I ordered the Blackened Mahi sandwich. It wasn't anything special but it was good. I ate the whole thing. The price was very decent though. I couldn't complain. I ordered the hamburger kids meal for my son. They give super big portions for the kids meals. I wondered before ordering that it was kind of an expensive kids menu but now I know why. The server was a little off her game. She seemed really busy though but I thought it was kind of weird how frazzled she looked and acted instead of trying to remain cool in front of her customers. Overall, I really loved this place and would definitely come back. It's more for the view and the actual place than the food. By the way, their fries are amazing!!

Awful service!! It took 10 minutes just to get seated, then we sat for another 30 and never even got our drinks. We left before getting to even place an order. Won't ever go back. So disappointed.

I stopped by with some friends for a couple beers by the lake and some food. To my surprise the lake view is only for appetizers , beer and cigarettes. We walked in into the restaurant and sat in the Florida room .The server was ok .The food was pedestrian at best.the one star is for five I repeat five medium sautéed shrimp for nine dollars!!we are at the fish camp !!:( it's a rip off because the shrimp count was not specified on the menu!!

  • Nancy D.

Went here today there was 4 of us. Restaurant was dreary and dark weird smell like old mold. Sat on porch area more light better smell. My friend and the fish sandwich she said it was mushy and had a weird taste. I had the fried catfish it was good. The $300 dollar coleslaw was very boring and dry. . The conch fritters were ok but had very little flavor. the others had hamburgers and they were passable. Handful of fries. They change for mayo and mustard 50 cent each for a dab. WHAT!. Out behind the restaurant is a bar. Beautiful birds in cages enjoy the choking smoke from cigarettes as it bellows from the screened in bar. Poor birds. Well I came and saw and will never be back. The view was nice and they have air boat rides. Also the Black Hammock trail was a disappointment too. Our walk was short, trail is part wood and the rest dirt and mud. But mud was so deep we could not pass. Oh well. On to our next Florida adventure.

It is tough to review Black Hammock because there are so many aspects of the place. There is a full service restaurant, an indoor bar, an outdoor seating area that serves drink and apps, a gift shop, airboat rides, alligator pits, bird aviaries and a boat launch. We scoped out the place before decided to eat at the restaurant. We followed dinner with drinks on the outdoor covered seating area between the Lazy Gator Bar and gift shop. The restaurant is old and dated looking and has a musty smell that was especially noticeable in the sunroom. There is dark wood paneling inside so we opted for the sunroom- at least you can kind of see the water. Our server seemed to us to be a stand-in. He was nice but not particularly comfortable at his job. They were out of kids menus, we were shorted utensils and the food was brought out incorrect. My Gator Monterrey Sandwich was good, but not great, and was piled high with gator nuggets. You can choose fries or slaw with a sandwich- stick with the fries. We also ordered the catfish nuggets and got a large portion considering it was an app. They were very good too. Still bar food, and not the best bar food I've had but better than many other places. Apparently gator is easy to screw up. Some of the gator was chewy but most was not and I liked the light breading. Next we headed down to sit closer to the water and have a few drinks while the sun set. It was a gorgeous night with a nice breeze and miraculously, no bugs! From our seat we saw multiple baby gators swimming back and forth in the canal. There was an interesting mix of people- young and old, tourists and locals, families and bikers. Too bad you can't get the full menu down by the water. They have new management so maybe they'll change that, then they'll earn 4 stars.

Do NOT eat here!!! Waited 20 minutes for a table. Waited 10 minutes for a server to show up...Waited another 10 minutes before we got our drinks...Waited 40 minutes and never saw food. Needless to say, we left.

Haven't been here in years but friends who have never been wanted to go. The food is just okay. I had catfish and shrimp. I think I've got a bag of this same catfish in my freezer from Costco. The shrimp was good, fries were cold. Husband had a burger 1/2 pound and said it was overcooked. The service was slow. When the waitress checked on us she was friendly enough but she kept disappearing and the place wasn't busy at all. A spray bottle of cleaner and a dirty rag were in the table next to us the whole time. The Lazy Gator was busy out back giving the impression that the restaurant is not as important as the bar. There are Airboat rides and gators in cages to impress out of town tourists. I remember this place from back in the mid 1990's and I'm sad to see how much it has changed. So much potential to be a fun place to eat but now it's just average. I'll pass next time and select another restaurant.

The only reason they get 3 stars is because of the beautiful view and the set up. The service is absolutely horrible in the bar area, not sure about the restaurant since we've never eaten there, but its a definitely a locals place. They seem to get good service but if its your first time, expect to wait a while, hope your not totally parched... Air boat tour was awesome and the guides were knowledgeable with great personalities.

Service is terrible, terrible, terrible. Don't waste your time. Place is run down. Manager is nice because she comped out my meal after the kitchen messed up order and I ate while my family waited for me.

My daughter loved the alligator decor and watching the alligator feeding, but there is just something unappealing about eating at Gatorland. The restaurant seemed a little dirty. They were also in the process of changing their menu. 2 guests in our party of 8 were unable to get what we ordered because it was being taken off the menu. That is always a let down. I won't be returning.

Went for an airboat ride around Lake Jessup and it was amazing. The staff was very friendly and loved to educate. We saw tons of alligators and birds and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. He made many stops and slow downs to teach us fun facts about the wild life and trees. We saw 2 bald eagles nesting high up in a tree too! Great tour to take wonderful pictures as well. We paid for a 30 minute ride but wound up out there for nearly 50 minutes. After the ride we ate some gator tacos and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. We will definitely return!

It's hunt'n season and gators are in hiding. I saw more birds than gators. Nice chillaxing area to sip on your moonshine & get some gator bites at the restaurant.

Came here on a Saturday night with our two kids. Husband had steak with blackened gator. I had the gator tacos. Kids had gator bites and mac and cheese. Gator and steak dishes were very good. Florida seasoning was mild but tasty. Blackened was excellent and steak was cooked very well. Margaritas were 2 for 1 and were tasty. Would definately come here again. P.S. under new management and it seems to show

This is a fantastic brunch/lunch spot for a relaxed Sunday with friends or family, especially if you like a quieter atmosphere. Go for the Gator Bites! Black Hammock kind of feels like the proper Floridian mix of a casual sports bar that extended itself to also be a family restaurant. The food ranges from salad & appetizers like gator and conch bites to full dinner plates of steak or pasta. I believe they also have a full bar and wine list. The TVs and decor inside remind you of a sports bar, but the boat dock, alligators, parrots, and parakeets - as well as the outside bars and picnic areas - are what make Black Hammock a great family destination.

After fifteen years of continued patronage, I visited Black Hammock tonight with friends and for the first time in quite a while. For the first time ever, I am very disappointed in the food. While sitting outside in the bar area, we ordered the Cajun gator bites to enjoy our favorite food and the wonderful weather. The order of gator bites we received was shameful at best. For $10.99 we received barely 11 pieces of gator. After all these years of patronage, we are not only disappointed in the small amount of gator we received but disappointed in the business practices of Black Hammock. We found out after going to the restaurant, which is approx 100yards from the bars, that the same order is only $8.99 in the restaurant (still too expensive for the portion). To me, this doesn't seem like good business practices. I have loved Black Hammock for a number of years now and, sadly, Am very disappointed in this change!

I am the CEO of a small nonprofit, every year I try to reward my staff with a fun, exciting, and adventurous Holiday Party. I had a group of 29 this year, I selected the Black Hammock to host my party, everyone really had a great time. We started the afternoon with airboat rides, alligators and wildlife, and then had a wonderful meal in the dining room. The staff went above and beyond to make our celebration something we all will talk about for years to come!! The food was great (I had blackened tilapia, it was excellent), the service was very good, the relaxed casual atmosphere, made for a great holiday party! The gator bites and frog legs were the toast of the day! I would highly recommend The Black Hammock for a fun and enjoyable party for any group!

Take my advice and do not order the blackened gator bites here. I was hoping to avoid going to deep fried route with the blackened gator, but I think the extra greasy calories would have been worth is as the blackened version was awful. They were salty, salty, salty. I wasn't sure if I was eating gator or balls of salt. The side of vegetables I ordered were terrible as well. I'm pretty sure they just drop a whole container of salt on everything and call it done. This was completely my error, you don't eat somewhere known for their deep fried food, then order something not fried and expect it to be good. Lesson learned. Don't try to eat healthy here. Order the deep fried gator bites with a side of french fries and enjoy it. At least the heavy amount of salt might actually make sense with these items.

What a waste of an awesome fun location and setup. The owner must consider his main business coming from one time tourist and the band nights. The food is middle of the road at best and over priced. No good drinks specials ever and the place is so filled with smoke that a non-smoker looking to spend money must go elsewhere. Tons of potential here and with a growing population in Oviedo, I'm suprised there's not a better deal for locals. I live super close so I keep trying this place. The newer employees are friendly compared to some of the staff that seem to care less. This place is poorly managed but if you like cigar smoke and gator meat this might be the place for you.

Went here on a Sunday night with some friends. It really is out in the sticks! The restaurant was empty. It was so empty, I thought it was closed. A few had steak and the rest of us had fish. My blackened grouper was excellent and so were the gator bites. The others said their steak was "just ok". The service has something to be desired. It was slow, not too friendly, and the server rarely came by to check on us. I was dissappointed by the location. The pictures on the website make it look much better than it actually is as far as scenery goes. I thought there would be seating on the lake. Oh well, I took one for the team.

We've only been there a few times and usually just go there for the novelty aspect.. It is off the beaten path so it's something different to offer your out of town guests. The long winding road to the restaurant just goes with the ambiance. Order the gator sampler if you have the out of towners with you!

This past summer, I made it my goal to experience as much of my home state as possible, no matter how "unique" these experiences were. Black Hammock definitely qualifies as a "unique experience," but it is one I'm definitely glad I had. Who knew not even five miles from my front door in Suburbia lay the untamed Florida wilderness, complete with winding dirt roads that lead to nowhere, mansions built in the middle of swamps, and a restaurant that butts up to one of the biggest lakes in Central Florida? That's where I found Black Hammock Restaurant, nestled on the shore of gator-infested Lake Jesup. I've lived in Oviedo for 14 years, and passed the signs for it HUNDREDS of times. This summer, I was finally brave enough to venture in. The decor is exactly what you would expect from a restaurant whose menu prominently features the very creature that lives in both the lake and the exhibits outside: gator heads, baby gators in an aquarium, a small statue of a fisherman that looks like Sean Connery, and life preservers I assume (hope) have never been used. But this just adds to the atmosphere; this is Old Florida at its finest. For starters, I ordered the Gator Nuggets (Florida Style aka breaded and deep fried) and the frog legs (prepared the same way). Both dishes were a first for me; the gator nuggets are to this day one of the strangest and best-tasting food I've ever had. The frog-legs, while a little oily, were still good, but the concept of what they really were was hard to get over. Otherwise, it's just a greasy chicken wing. Finally, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. It was perfectly cooked, juicy, and loaded with toppings. I would DEFINITELY order it again! Be sure you stop by the gift shop! Although it is small, they have some cool Black Hammock "memorabilia!" Next time, maybe I'll be brave enough to go on one of the restaurant's airboat tours. This way, I'll be able to MEET my dinner face to face... ...if I don't become its dinner first.

Hell yes where else can you eat an alligator sandwich while sitting 20 feet from wild alligators swimming n the open water with no fence. I told the kids we ate the slow and retarded gators. great entertainment and food

Black Hammock is off the beaten path, located on Lake Jessup. It's a great place to get away, have a drink, eat some gator tail, and watch the sunset on the lake.

072510 - Went to Black Hammock for first time and was expecting the worse based on reviews I had read. But, the neighbors and others rave about it so we gave it a shot. We were not disappointed. Good service, good food, interesting ambiance for a dive kinda place on the lake. Frog legs, gator, and catfish were excellent. Shrimp trio was also very good. Cheese grits a bit lacking in flavor but it's grits so some salt and pepper took care of that. Green beans are from the can and so-so. The BEST gator I've ever had. Not overpowered by the batter spices and was cooked to perfection - not tough at all. We got plenty of food; no skimping there. We will be going back and hope our next visit has just as good an experience as this one.

OK, first the disclaimers: My lunch (fish tacos and fries) was excellent. And my server told me she was new (not to food service, but to this restaurant). Now my experience: Noting fish tacos offered on the lunch special board for $6.99 as I entered, I ordered that at the bar, specifying "fried fish tacos," as I saw on the menu that they are offered grilled, blackened or fried. My tacos were delicious but the fish was grilled. When I mentioned it I received an apology and it was explained to me that the mahi they used was better grilled - I agree completely with that, but the special board didn't say what kind of fish I was to get. Nobody eating at the bar received silverware or napkins - we wrangled condiments onto our food with our fingers and grabbed for little bar napkins ourselves. My check showed $10.99 as the price. When I questioned that I was told that I should have specified I wanted the lunch special and not the dinner special but was told I should be happy that I got mahi instead of the lesser fish they use on the lunch special and I got three tacos instead of two. Uhhh... like I was to know that??? Come on - it was your mistake, not mine. I'm angry at myself for not demanding the difference back. Great food, horrible service. The new server needs some SERIOUS retraining. I'll be back for the food, not the service. And I'll be amazingly clear and detailed about what I want and what I expect to pay for it. They will hate me - whatever.

Located so close to our home, we frequently entertain and wow our out of town guests at the Black Hammock. Bethany, Capt. Ron and the rest of the staff are always attentive and courteous, often times going the extra mile in ensuring we are completely satisfied. With family & friends, besides very much enjoying the airboat rides, we also normally enjoy the photo shoots with the baby gator, the talking birds and the great sunsets while sipping a nice cold one. Not normally there for the food, we recently had a platter of the gator bites (cajun spiced) with curly fries and disappeared in an instant..."yummy great" claimed the kids. Thanks for the great times, Black Hammock! Manny & Audrey Aponte

Absolutely love this place! Live music on Friday and Saturday and a relaxed outdoor ambiance! Nothing like drinking alongside a few alligators!

Gators and airboat rides were the inspiration and excuse to check out this Orlando-area institution and catch up on our day drinking. I expected gators to be lining the shores of Lake Jesup as I had been told repeatedly that this body of water has the state's highest concentration of gators. Well, they weren't plying the shores, but they were in cages (yes, sad) and the crew there feeds them whole chickens. It's a slice of Flori-cana, for sure. Just the sort of shtick-y show that's amusing to people who find that sort of thing amusing. We had intended to splurge on an airboat ride, but the weather was overcast (translation: the gators were digging the mud, not wanting to sunbathe and pose for tourist snapshots). As for drinks, we started with mai-tais on the outdoor patio overlooking the lake (tres scenic). The beer selection was short, but one shouldn't expect a decent IPA selection when day drinking with rednecks (er, the sunblock-challenged). The service was lacking, namely a wait person to check on us an hour after we ordered our first round. But there's nothing a cell phone can't fix. We called the bar and asked that someone hook us up with more drink-skies. Because of this incident, a few peeps in the crew decided not to tip, but I did anyway, hoping it might inspire perhaps not greatness but efficiency next time. Go for the scenery: Sit outside (otherwise this venue isn't too exciting). Do note: This is the place to go with good friends, not where you'll meet your next significant other. Also, the music was great. We didn't go specifically to enjoy some tuneage, but were pleased by the low-country blues wafting from the restaurant at just the right, talk-over decibel.

My rating would have been 4 stars a couple of years ago but unfortunately things seem to have gone downhill for the place a bit. Prices went up, food stayed the same. I used to go every Tuesday for 25 cent wing night and had some great times with friends. Other than the Gator items I can't really recommend anything on the menu aside from their Blackened catfish sandwich. Everything else is sub-par. It's really not that bad though, and you have to go at least once to see the place and experience it. My guess is that if you aren't a condescending jerk you'll come away rating it a 3 or more, too.

The food is not good. We've given Black Hammock a few chances, but the food is still not good. The only cool part is that the kids can pet a baby alligator. Is that sanitary in a restaurant? Anyway, there are lots of big gators out back near the cool looking biker bar on the lake.

A favorite with bikers and fishermen who can't figure out where else to get a beer in Oviedo. Conveniently located about a half hour 55 mph Harley lumber-ride from the Cabbage Patch or Gator's at the Osteen Bridge, you and the other greying brothers of the wind can buy a $3.00 Bud and look at the waitresses, who couldn't care less. You might want to bring a small flexible stick to whack the wait staff with, otherwise they tend to nod of and forget about you. You can pick from a variety of nourishing food, including (Wow!) GATOR (oh boy). You don't go here for the food or the drink, but the crowd is interesting if you get to the third stage of drunkeness-- witty and charming, part two.

I WISH I could give zero star rating Black hammocks was one of the worst places I've been in a long time. It was one problem after another. It wasn't worth the 45 dollars that they stole. I should have just walked out. We sat down and didn't know what to order because the menu was full of fried foods and no healthier alternatives. The gator bites were tough and basically inedible . we had to dunk them in all manner of sauces, but nothing helps the botched texture. For some reason we were searved honey mustard with a "bufallo wing" styled dish. What were they thinking? I finally decided on the Citrus grouper special. But there was nothing special about it. Unless they meant special ed. The citrus glase was completely unballanced. It was so sour that basically had to choke it down. Addition of salt helped a bit but there is no way to balance out something so sour it makes you want to gag. The sour was so bad I couldn't even taste the fish. My girlfriend go t a order of chicken and ribs. She said the chicken was ok. But the ribs were completely dry. She had to ask for more BBQ sauce to compensate for how dry the ribs were. Myguess, they were over cooked or sat under heat lamps for several hours previous to us even arriving. The check was double or tripple what the food was worth. I felt so ripped off. The server even said he had already brough out a lot of free food. There was some "computer" issue with the special. The food was brough out all wrong. The fries that were supposed to be with the ribs and chicken, supposed to be on my girlfriend's plate, were on my plate. He brought the coleslaw as a salad... ??? Who eats coleslaw as a salad course? Coleslaw is a side not a salad. The whiteboard in front of the restaruant clearly stated that the citrus grouper comes with 2 sides for 13.95. I ordered my 2 sides not expecting any problems. They wanted to up charge me for the "extra"(the second) side because the "computer" doesn't want to price it how they advertised it. Blaming the computer is a lame excuse for incompetence. It's not necessarily the server's fault. He's just doing his job, but he should have known that the computer would do that before the "computer" tried ot up charge me for a side that was supposed to be INLCUDED!! The reciept even lists that the restaurant is under new management. The real problem is with the management for opening without changing the computer system to match their advertisements for their specials. I'm sure they closed the last time because of screw-ups like this. They clearly don't know the first thing about how to cook, serve customers, or run a business. I am never returning. If anyone asks me about it I will tell them to go anywhere but there. Don't waste your time or money.

A lazy Sunday afternoon and we found ourselves in the Black Hammock area. Hadn't been to the place in years and wondered if it had changed. Not much, and that's not bad. Grab a cold beer and mahi mahi sandwich, skip the conch fritters. Service was just adequate at our table but a couple of the other servers and the hostess were more enthusiastic. Will stop again cuz how many places can you get gator, catfish and frog legs all at the same time?

We noticed the glaring billboard on SR 434, and decided that it look like a pretty interesting place to go for dinner, so we set out to find where it was located. Given where the billboard was located, it was difficult to find the first time. Determined to make it a place to visit, i found it online. After several missed opportunities to get there (LOL...long story), we went last night, with coupon in hand. Its tucked way back in there off 434/419, but the anticipation of something good was still there. We park the car, in which the lot was full.....once inside, I realized the cars were at the bar next door. We ordered appetizers, fish and fries, and one of the seafood sampler platters. Appetizers were good, and the entrees were decent, I have had better and worse, but okay. About halfway through dinner, my girlfriend is pulling something out of her fish and its hanging from her mouth...OMG, there was a long string of hair fried in the batter of the fish. The dinner was ruined. The waitress comes over and she told her what happened. The waitress apologized (no fault of hers) and asked if she wanted something else, and took the meal off the check. We asked for the manager, and she didnt seem to be the least bit concerned, told us that no one in the kitchen has long hair, and didnt know where it could have come from, as if that should have made us feel better. Through it all took 25% off the check, and told us to keep the coupon and use it on our next visit. Well to her dismay, we told them we would not be back, and left the coupon on the table. It will be an experience that we can look back on because of how much I had wanted to try this place. I wont be choosing the next dinner location for a while. This place could be a decent place for dinner with the right management to ensure that the food and service is priority one. You have to take care of your customers, and make sure that they have a pleasant dinning experience, or they will not return.

Maybe this place is more popular on weekends but when we showed up at 7pm on a Tuesday there was NOBODY there. "What do you have on tap?" "Bud Light." ... We got some fried alligator bites and shrooms and left. They weren't too bad though, just not good enough to keep us around.

This place sucks, they can't keep a good waitress in there to save their lives. New bartender every time I go in too. Musty smell, not sure if it was the carpet or the lady seated to my left.

We've been here before and decided to come back for a change of pace. We brought guests, and we were all disappointed with the food. Popcorn shrimp would have been better out of a grocery store frozen bag. It was overcooked and tough. The cheese grits were bland, and even salt, pepper and hot sauce couldn't perk them up. The fries were wilted, though warm. Salad was of the bagged variety with two cherry tomatoes added per serving. The scallops were overcooked and chewy. Sirloin was full of gristle. Alligator bites were acceptable, but nothing to write home about. Even the tartar sauce was mediocre. A table for four with only one beer cost us $90, including tip. For that kind of money, you can definitely do better. I know I will.

Great food, the Cajun gator bites were awesome. The Blu cheese burger and the gator ones were out of this world, super jucey and pack with flavor. Server was quick and friendly.

Really great food, music and atmosphere. Server was really sweet and if I weren't freezing my a** off id write a paragraph about how much I love this place.

If you drove all the way out to the lake to see some gator, but missed them - like we did - you might want to stop in the restaurant before you leave. After all, your ticket stubs get you a discount. It isn't fancy or anything, but the service is friendly, and at the very least a cold drink (of the family variety or adult style) will feel good after being out in the sun. Aside from that, the food is good - even the gator. Prices are also friendly to your wallet, even without the discount, and it's a good way to spend a bit of time before heading back to the road and civilization.

I love that this is off the beating path. They have 3 bars to choose from. Great scenery. Also, the food is great. If you want authentic southern food, try this place out.

Went here Friday evening. I generally like hole in the wall spots but this was terrible. The prices were outlandish. I paid 10 dollars for a Yuengling and a Shocktop. Our waitresses didn't pay us any any mind and spent the entire time talking with what I assume are regulars. The place was dirty and was not what I expected at all. I will not be back.
