Out west on SR 40 is this cute country restaurant attached to a gas station. They have the right location with horse country all around. Down home country food is what they serve and it's pretty good. Nothing fancy, a lot of it frozen and reheated but most restaurants serving at these prices serve the same thing. Their menu is long and their list of "sides" even longer. Aside from their regular menu they offer several daily specials. I had the cheese grits, fried okra and tomato salad. Just what I needed on a day that I needed to eat light and quick. Current Health Inspection: 1-high priority, 1-intermediate & 2-basic violations.

This is the second chance weve given this restaurant and both times have been a huge disappointment. The first time we had to wait forever for our food then at the end of the meal we were double charged for items off of someone else's ticket. The second time (which I'm currently writting about) has been no better. After placing our drink orders my drink was forgotten and I didn't receive it until 15 minutes later when our server finally came back by to take our food order. Then the appetizer (fried green tomatoes which WERE NOT green at all) took half an hour. We're currently at the hour and ten minute mark and the only thing from our main order that has made it to the table from our order is our daughter's hotdog. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant at all costs.

I've been three times, the first was decent but the second time the service took forever and when we were ready to pay the cashier double charged us. Figuring that this was just a bad day we chose to go back for another try. We were there nearlt an hour before out food came out and the waitress was not very attentive. I understand that sometimes the kitchen gets backed up but there were only 2 other people in the restaurant at the time and I still expect my waitress to acknowledge our wait. Not going back for another round of disappointment.

Went there last night. My wife had the stuffed salmon and I had the liver and onions. My wife's meal was evidently heated in a microwave because the inside was so hot 10 minutes after being served. My liver was tough, stringy and hard to cut. The green bean side dish was tasteless, some bacon annemic in color.. Best part of the meal was the corn bread. Went the once before and it was not good. We figure every place deserves a second chance - last chance for us. Never will go there again.

We frequently go to this restaurant for breakfast. They offer a very good breakfast sandwich on a Kaiser and it works really well for anybody on-the-go first thing in the morning. You can call ahead to place an order for the breakfast sandwich. The staff is always so friendly.

Stopped on our way to our home in port charlotte. Very friendly staff. Good food at a good price. Breakfast (served all day) looked quite delicious!

I went here for lunch on Saturday. Having been by the place a number of times and seen the parking lot fairly full I thought it might bode well. It is a moderate sized with two dining areas filled with plain tables and chairs. Not much decor, although what there is caters to the horsey set (Ocala prides itself as the "Horse Capital of the USA") and people from the area. The service was prompt and quite friendly, with drink order taken. There was quite a large list of daily specials, some of which looked interesting. I had a Patty Melt and fries and a diet coke. The sandwich was good sized with plenty of meat and grilled onions on appetizing seeded rye. I found the patty, although cooked to medium as ordered, a bit on the dry side and lacking in flavor. The order of fries was a decent sized portion, but not quite crisp enough and again lacking in character; they were also mostly really short sections of fries, making it a little hard to eat. The diet coke was a little flat. Bottom line - the place flaunts its ratings as "Best Breakfast and Lunch in Ocala", and there was nothing really wrong with it, but for me it was only three stars

We came there on a craving for biscuits, which to our disappointment they didn't have any, so we were tempted to leave... but I'm glad we stayed. They had great service, sweet and moist cornbread, and the best white gravy I've ever had (and I'm usually not a fan of white gravy). Their chicken pot pie wasn't as flaky as I'd like (maybe not fresh) though the filling was pretty good and their collards weren't mush like most places. My husband got the chicken fried steak and I normally don't care for it, because it tends to be too greasy, but it was actually light and crispy. We will most definitely be back! (PS. Breakfast is served 'til 4:00)

More good food and great service from Crossroads Country Kitchen again; this time I tried their fried grouper as I heard it was very good... and very good it was. The fish was hot when served, and nice and flaky inside. There was so much fish I took a meal's worth home with me. That meant I had no room for dessert... thank goodness! It's very difficult to escape the temptations of their dessert case. (Picture of my meal added to photos.)

Family style with good menu. I like for a morning bagel with lox, etc. Attentive staff keep the decaf coming.

Im at more like a 3.5 star. When you walk in, your immediately face to face with an old fashion light up dessert display case. They had tiny little pies waiting to be devoured that didnt look too bad. The interior is very Marion Countyish with old horse paraphernalia all over the walls. Its clean though, and rather homey. To the food. They had a very extensive menu (which they literally wheel a giant dry erase board up to your table that has the days specials written on it) and everything sounds pretty tasty. I ordered the chicken philly cheese and my mom got a Reuben. The sweet tea was great, I had like 3 glasses. But heres where it gets kinda bleh. They charge an extra dollar onto every meal you would like to add fries to. My sandwich came with chips, you would think for the $8 price tag it had already, an extra dollar for fries seemed pretty out there. So, whatever, get the fries and our meals come out not too much later. Everything was pretty good. My sandwich was hot, but lacking pizzazz. There was nothing special about it. Same for the fries. But my moms sandwich was very good. So I dont know, seems kinda hit and miss. Pros: Not too crowded, local vibe, clean bathrooms and dining area, friendly staff, food that has potential Cons: Just way overpriced. Hit and miss entrees. Extra dollar for fries...cmon.
