Best place in Niceville! My boyfriend and I stopped in a few weeks ago for a quick lunch date and I had the salad special of the day with rosemary chicken added, I don't remember the name of the special but it was sooo good. Boyfriend got the rosemary chicken sandwich with a bag of sweet potato chips. I'm not normally a fan of sweet potatoes but I liked them a lot! I could tell they were very fresh and homemade. We also got some cookie dough gelato which was fantastic. The prices were very reasonable and I like how they have some games so you can play chess while you wait for your food! We will definitely be back!

Stopped in here for lunch in a Saturday, only because the Front Porch next door was closed. Grab a menu on the way in, and walk up to the window to order and pay. We took a seat and our black beans and rice were brought out first. They were good, but no real spice to them. I ordered the seafood gumbo, which had a nice spicy flavor to it - but ugh...those tiny little shrimp that look like they came from a can. Rubbery tiny flavorless shrimp. Which was so disappointing, as the water is across the street! We live at the beach!! My honey ordered a sandwich which he said was the best part of the visit. It's a quaintly decorated little house, with local paintings for sale lining the walls. None really my taste, but interesting to look at. I wouldn't go back, mostly because there are a dozen seafood markets within a few miles, that would have made the gumbo, well, better.

Nice place in a quiet part of Niceville. Inside is a little dark and it's not immediately apparent how you go about sitting and eating but you figure it out after standing there awkwardly for several moments the first time. My wife and I both got sandwiches. Me the duck sandwich and my wife the fish sandwich (which that day was pompano). The duck sandwich was good but not amazing. It was fairly greasy and the sandwich was a little on the small side...or it was too expensive - take your pick. My wife wasn't crazy about her fish sandwich so next time I might get the pulled pork - always a classic. The sweet potato chips for $1 is a nice touch. Ensure you get those.

Amazing cinnamon rolls!!! Good coffee, good food variety, really friendly staff, board games on fleek, scrabble and local art hanging on the walls!!!

Looks cute from the outside, you order from the clerk in back, and they call out your order when ready. I got the duck sandwhich (which is marinated for over 15 hrs)! And sweet potato chips ($1), they were delicious. However, very small selection. But everything they make is yummy. Cool art on the walls, and they even do breakfast.

There were not very many customers at this restaurant so I wasn't sure if I should try it. However it is next-door to the front porch which is a breakfast place, so I decided to try it on the second day of my vacation. The breakfast is good. If you want something small this is a good place to go. Coffee selection is very similar to a Starbucks-ish type environment. Love the reggae music. Limited parking. Also the sign on the door says Monday through Saturday they open at 8:30. Versus what's on the Internet which says 11 o'clock. They should probably update their information.

Good food and a kind staff who took time to answer my gluten free questions (and be very specific!). Not dedicated gluten free but very knowledgeable about what constitutes gluten free. Husband tried the sweet potato chips and those were amazing! Pulled Rosemary Chicken was tender and juicy. Really liked the homemade gelato. Mint chocolate was truly mint from the garden with a natural mint flavor....nothing fake or artificial there!! Definitely need to stop in!!

One of our favorite local places. The kids enjoy coming to play board games and eat gelato. I've been several times and my all time favorites are the muffuletta served cold. Yum! The sensations salad is wonderful. For $5.25 you get a rather large salad that you'd easily pay $8 or more in the touristy areas and its all fresh field greens. Wonderful salad!! The homemade sweet potato chips for a $1 are delightful and plentiful. Yes it's small, quaint but that's called character. I'd highly recommend supporting this local business.

I've been here about 4 times now and all I can say is it is awesome. Make sure to come on the weekend for the beingets and chicory coffee. It is better than Cafe Du Monde! A lot cleaner too. I've had the shrimp (don't call it a PoBoy) sandwich, which was absolutely amazing. I also tried the red beans and rice with half mufalata and the homemade sweet potato chips. Everything came out quick, hot and tasty. The prices are reasonable and the people there are always pleasant. Add to it they give a Military Discount without asking.

Wow! That is all I can say!! This place was great! Came here for the first time today and I will definitely make this place a regular when I visit niceville. My daughter loved the pulled pork so much she actually put her ice cream down and asked for more pulled pork. The service was wonderful and there is a lot of detail put into how they serve there products. Very happy we came here today!:))

Awesome food! Everything is freshly made and the specials use seasonal ingredients. I love the pulled pork and the sweet potato chips are great. Gelato is awesome too. I love that this place is family-run...you will usually find the owners (and their kids) behind the counter.

I've eaten here twice for lunch with others and have never really enjoyed it. Maybe the menu is a little too "eclectic" as another reviewer termed it. I didn't find any flavors that bowled me over and I'd plain prefer to just eat somewhere else (like at the place next door). The best thing about Cafe Bienville to me? The rootbeer on draft.

EAT HERE!! This place is AWE-MAZING! The food is so fresh and delicious. Since I've discovered this gem on bayshore my husband and I frequent it whenever possible. The owners put their heart and soul in this establishment and the food the create and serve. You can't go wrong with whatever you order, it's ALL home made - even the gelato!! And at $2 for a big scoop of icecream, you definitely can't beat that. Their baklava is unlike any other because again - it's HOME MADE! I love their chicory coffee along with the fact that I can use stevia or truvia to sweeten it up instead of those 'other - extremely unhealthy sweeteners' - anyone who pays enough to attention to carry an all natural sweetener shows me their paying attention to everything they carry and create in their magically tasty kitchen. My husband loves the muffaletta sandwich and po'boys. I always order one of their delicious fresh and crisp salads with either the rosemary chicken or pulled pork. Whenever I've taken anyone here they too have loved it! It has a ton of character, serves beer and wine, has the kindest owners, and offers live music some nights. Support your local cafe, it's better and healthier than most places and tucked away in unsuspecting Niceville. Great for lunch and dinner!

Very inexpensive for the quality of ingredients and food you get. Salads range from $5-7 and about the same for sandwiches. However it is not bland like Subway or Quiznos. The atmosphere is charming and nice that they do offer beer or wine as well. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves excellent food. Try their gelatto, some of the best I have ever had. Plus everything is homemade, from the gelatto to the bread.

First, to qualify my rating and comment, I've only tried lunch at Cafe Bienville. And I've only been there once. I met my daughter there for a late lunch this past week. There is sufficient parking, the restaurant is relatively clean...including the restrooms, which I'll admit was a pleasant surprise. It was 2:00pm when we walked in, and there were two ladies sitting at one other table. Nobody else was there. Those two ladies were still there when we'd finished lunch and left. The interior is that of an older building with open and exposed beams. There is a "soda" and beer bar where they make custom-blended sodas to order. But they literally have the bar top covered with display bottles of the various flavors they use i mixing the drinks. So they've made what appears to be a fairly nice bar top virtually useless, and forced customers who might want a beer to sit at a table. The walls are adorned with ameteur artists' works, and few of them are worth a second look. The menu selections were simple and of appropriate number...too many menu choices at a small, lightly patronized restaurant and I'd worry about the freshness of the food. Prices are relatively inexpensive when compaired to their "neighbors." The interior is a bit dark for a place that's 50 yards from the water. The word, "Bohemian" came to mind as I looked around the interior. And unfortunately, there is no view. The restaurant has a shallow front porch, but there is nothing but street to look at. If I owned this place I'd offer the other of the land across the street a few hundred dollars to allow me to go in with a chainsaw and loppers to cut down all the weeds, brush, and other scrub to open the water view up to the restaurant. There is a back room you can reserve for large groups, and I'm told it's relatively popular. Looks like they could seat about 40 randomly, and maybe 25-30 dinner-style. The "chef" was behind the counter, and he was relatively "lifeless," abrupt, and dismissive. I'm not sure if he owns the place or what, but the fact that he had what appeared to be the first two paying customers in a good bit of time didn't elevate his dead-pan expression one bit. This guy was clearly not an honor graduate of any "Tony Robbins" courses. I ordered the pulled pork BBQ sandwich, and I thought it was pretty good, but nothing particularly special. My daughter had gumbo and a sandwich and she was no more impressed than was I. I tried her gumbo and felt it was a bit "soupy" and lacking of substance. The sweet potato chips were fantastic. I'll probably go back once or twice to give them another chance. But I wouldn't recommend the place based on what I've seen and eaten so far. I noticed that someone else, in a previous rating, made a positive comment about the "service." I have to ask, "what service?" You have to go to the cook's window to make your order, and to pick up your food. You serve yourself your own tea or water from the "tea bar." No one stopped at our table later to ask if our food was okay, or if we enjoyed our meal. I guess if I were to rate the service I'd be rating myself. For now I'll give the Cafe Bienville three stars and I'll update after my next trip or two, if what I experience changes my opinion. For now, consider that rating "charitable."

NOT A FAN! I came here after reading great reviews. The food was tasteless. The gumbo had no seasoning, the red beans and rice was awful. The sandwiches were flavorless ( pulled pork and chicken). My husband was disappoineted that chose to get take out from this place. The only good thing was the sweet potato chips and beneighs.

We had heard about this local place from coworkers, described as having a ''mom and pop diner atmosphere' with 'eclectic' menu and vibe. Went on a Friday late afternoon, not at all crowded. Staff very friendly and personable. It's an 'order at the counter' and 'pick up window' kind of place, with plenty of seating inside. Wife and I split a very tasty and generous bowl of red beans and rice, with big chunks of andouille sausage. Fantastic. We each got sandwiches, roast rosemary chicken with fresh basil, and portabella mushroom. Bread appears to be fresh baked onsite; all ingredients, spices, and herbs are fresh, put together in unique and very tasty combinations. We also shared an order of homemade sweet potato chips, very tasty. Prices were reasonable ($6 for a big bowl of beans and rice, $6-7 for the sandwiches, $1 for the homemade chips). None of the 'usual' softdrinks, Italian soda or water, or homemade beverages (cherry vanilla soda was advertised on the specials board). Inside decor was, in fact, an 'eclectic' mix of original paintings (some for sale-with pricetags--for anyone looking to support local starving artists) and mobiles using driftwood, shells, corals, etc. Our only 'other' comment--may have been poor timing after a lunch rush, but several tables were in need of cleaning, despite an almost empty place, and the bar area appeared to be in the middle of a rework/deep cleaning project left unfinished. Don't come expecting a spotlessly clean and perfectly organized place with table side service--if you get your mind right, it'll be a great experience. We completely enjoyed the food, character, and experience. We'll be back.

We came here based on the other good reviews and we VERY disappointed. My boyfriend and I both ordered the gumbo which was bland and spicy. There was absolutely no flavor in it. Our baklava was pretty good but a tiny little square that held four bites. I will not return or tell my friends about this place.

By far the best place to get lunch in the Destin/FWB/Niceville area. Locally owned the owners are very gracious and provide great service. Food is excellent and well priced, particularly the pulled pork and the portabella mushroom sandwiches. They also have outstanding homemade gellato (I prefer the mint chip). My wife and I eat here whenever we can. A true hole in the wall local joint that I can't recommend enough. If you are in town looking for some local flavor don't pass this one up!

A relaxing cafe with a friendly owner / chef who focuses on making great tasting food from natural and local sources. The menu is surprising and fun. Yummy and redeemable (for me who was trying to be healthy) was the Sensation salad topped with confit duck; accompanied by draft Root Beer that brings back the good old days. Followed with a surprising Guiness gelato, which was refreshing and not too sweet, it was a very satisfying meal with a price which was very reasonable. They make as much fresh as is possible, including the gelato. They use local seafood, et. al. They make their own bread. They have a full range of your favorite coffee treats with an expresso machine. On weekends they have beignet.
