I cant believe this place only got a 2.5 stars. I'm so glad we went there anyways. The whitefish with shrimp etoffe is out of this world. The rest of the family got the all you can eat shrimp - loved the homemade breading, it's light and tasty, definitely not a heavy breading. We will make it back before we our vacation is over. Only complaint is the size of the dining room, get there early if you want a seat inside. Ambience is nothing to write home about but it is clean and the staff is very friendly.

Gluten free reviewer. They are off to a good start, but a lot to learn about food allergy. Personally I believe if you're in the food industry, you should be aware of allergens in the ingredients in the food you sell. Waitstaff was knowledgable, manager leaned by the kitchen on her cell, letting my food sit in the window for a timed 4 minutes before my waitress came around to bring it to me with hush puppies in the basket. I warned about cross contamination, so the manager happily went in the back and changed the paper and basket without washing her hands or putting gloves on. Too hungry to wait another 15 min for food they likely would have spit in anyway. Went for sushi up the road instead.

Great food. Husband got the AYCE shrimp basket and sides. I got the crab claws. Every item on the table tasted delish!! Waitress was a sweetheart, too. Loved the Shrimp Basket!!

  • Manda J.

Oh this place was SO good!! Really hit the spot!! I got the shrimp basket with potato salad and it was just delicious!! The staff were very friendly, the price was good. I gave it a 4 just because they need a revamp on the place(new furniture, decor, etc.) and it was a little small for my liking but I found it worth it for the food :)

  • Kenn Y.

I thought the food here was solid. We enjoyed our visit and the service was very good.

  • William F.

Service was terrible. It took forever to get our food and even longer to get our reorder. I guess it's a good way to keep cost down on all you can fish night. We just left after the second order didn't feel like waiting another thirty minutes for three little pieces of fish. Food was just OK nothing special.

  • John R.

When will I ever learn. Bad service and food is better out of my microwave. Not a busy night but if you sit outside you don't have to worry about the waitress bothering you much at all, probably should bring something to drink with you to hold you over.

  • Kevin N.

This place is pretty good. My review takes a hit on the environment because their indoor seating is rather small, strong scented with bad lighting. I would recommend sitting outside. The food however was great for the price required. Also, don't order water! It's horrible tap water.

  • Elizabeth G.

Not super great. I had the shrimp PO boy. It was just ok. They charge extra to add a side so I shared fries with my husband. He had the fried shrimp. I love fried shrimp, usually. These were just mediocre. Perhaps they were not fresh... The staff was friendly.

    (3)
  • Claudia H.

The food was horrible, everything was burned to crisp and the oil was old. Cole slaw is not edible.

    (1)
  • Mike P.

Small bait shrimp for all you can eat but really tasty and cooked perfectly. Service was good and the manager came over twice to check. No complaints and I would go back when in the mood for delicious grilled shrimp.

    (3)
  • Natalie C.

Nothing special about the fried shrimp. I can get better tasting shrimp from the frozen section at a grocery store.

    (2)
  • Rick M.

Nice relaxed atmosphere. Service is always fast and friendly. Everything we have had there is good. Manager and staff do everything to make your experience a good one. We especially like the AYCE specials. We love everything except for the fact that during busy times, the kitchen facilities must be too small to handle the higher customer volumes... since they cook everything to order, when they are very busy, wait times can be a little long. We try to avoid peak busy times. Aside from that they would have a 5 star rating.

  • Phil S.

If lousy service and terrible food is what this place is striving for then have definitly achieved that goal. Do yourself a favor and drive as fast as you can by this place.

    (1)
  • Cherie G.

We got there about 5:30 before the supper crowd and had very minimum wait times. Food was very good and reasonably priced. I had the Mai Mai tacos. Highly recommend. Husband had crab cakes and kids each had kid meals. It was all very good. We are outside and it was comfortable.

    (4)
  • Will S.

Overpriced... little portions... not a good experience. I had the crawfish poboy and it was mediocre at best. My wife had boiled shrimp. There were very few and they were tiny. The fish was overcooked, the gumbo was lacking, and the servers were dressed inappropriately for a family restaurant. Would not recommend this restaurant. The only saving grace is that they have specials to assist with the huge bill they hand you at the end of your mediocre meal.

I was recommended to this place for the best and freshest seafood. I had one of their specialties with grilled shrimp skewers and as an appetizer I had the charbroied oysters with red pepper sauce. Really it was kinda weird....oysters with tomato sauce is all it was....just tasted weird. My friend had 2 doz raw oysters and grilled snapper. The oysters were fresh and clean. The grilled snapper was good but nothing to write home about. I thought the menu was kinda boring but huge. I, being from New Orleans, am hard to excite when it comes to food, especially seafood. This place did not really excite me. Oh...the hushpuppies were really good but they missed the mark on the tartar sauce I love to dip em in. The prices were reasonable though. The service was friendly.

Great dinner tonight at the Shrimp Basket. Our first visit, but based on the variety on the menu we will be back. I tried the blackened shrimp and grits. It hit the spot! Simple and tasty. And only $10.99 for a big portion! My wife had the shrimp tacos with a side of red beans and rice. Tasty. She enjoyed them and spiced them up with the tables hot sauce. My only knock is that there are no beers on tap. Otherwise this place is solid!

I was skeptical since the Shrimp Basket in Gulf Shores, Alabama is one of my all time favorites ...so the bar was extremely high...however...it was certainly good at this location...it just falls way short on matching the ambience of sitting outside with the Gulf breeze blowing everything off the table. Good coconut shrimp and new potatoes....cold ice tea .....full belly.

Kind of a tourist trap in my opinion. We saw a plane flying a banner that they had "all you can eat shrimp" along the beach and our boys just had to go! There were so many people the night we went that we had to wait outside in the heat for a long time before being seated, and the servers, hostess generally seemed very overwhelmed by the crowd of hungry people in such a small restaurant. It took a long time to be seated, and an even longer time to be served our food after ordering. The server missed essential things like Ketchup, and the food took so long, that it was painful to order anything additional after going for the "all you can eat" part. Food was "ok." Shrimp were slightly overcooked in my opinion (passable, but not great), and overall, the food was pretty salty. I didn't care for the slaw either. I think our money would have been better spent somewhere else - pretty expensive for what you actually got. There are nicer places to go in Navarre at this price point.

This is the second shrimp basket the family and I decided to try out. The inside space is a lot smaller than the other locations. The wait staff want too friendly and didn't check on us at all after taking our order, and it was about a 40 minutes before our food came out. I'm a creature of food habit, so I usually get the same meal every time. I had the fried crab claws with fries. The portion was small for the price and what I'm used to from other locations. They made it seem like you were getting a lot of crab claws by putting them over the fries, what a cruel trick at $17.99. Next up is the fried catfish, it wasn't cooked firm enough to our liking, it was a little mushy. Didn't have the nice catfish crunch at a all. They also missed the mark with the fried okra. This location really had us confused and disappointed in the shrimp basket restaurants. Lastly this location did not honor the military discount like the other locations. At the end the manager came over to take our baskets and saw that we didn't eat the shrimp slaw, and told us we can asked for a substitute since we didn't eat it.

I have never been disappointed with them! They do a wonderful job, the staff really keeps that place running smoothly!

  • Sally W.

We had the coconut shrimp.red beans and rice and hush puppies. All were delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Customer seemed like locals as opposed to tourists. We loved it

  • Tess B.

Great food, laid back atmosphere and crowd. Great Raw oysters and Po boy sandwiches. Bread is great, grilled shrimp has a bit too much seasoning.

    (4)
  • Loren C.

I have had really good PoBoys and fish and shrimp baskets. A lot of sides to choose from which is a plus and all at reasonable pricing. We always have friendly prompt service and never feel rushed even though the seating inside is limited. Orders have always come out in a timely manner and haven't had a complaint in all the times we have eaten there. They also have all you can eat specials but what we receive on a regular order is so much that it is usually more than I can eat.

    (4)
  • Ron R.

Extremely poor service. We arrived around 7:30 one evening and ordered our food. One hour and forty minutes later and still no food. When we decided to leave they wanted me to pay $113 for the food that was still not prepared and take it back to our condo. No thanks. Others left as well after waiting even longer than we did. Definitely will never go back.

  • Garfield M.

The service was good, nice waitress, food on the other hand not that great. Went for lunch with family of 4. Clam po boy was ok tasty Shrimp skewers best thing between the group, but the rice was over cooked. Crab cakes have filling that includes shrimp Not the best we've had in the area. Pass on fries and potato salad. Nice outside seating area, excellent staff.

    (3)
  • F C.

We had the catfish basket and shrimp basket and enjoyed it. I thought despite the negative reviews the food was good. The decor and cleanliness leaves something to be desired but all in all we were pleased.

    (4)
  • Terry W.

What a disappointment it was. The chicken strips for the kids were so over cooked that they were hard. My shrimp po-boy had the smallest shrimp known to man on it and on top of it I ordered the deluxe and it looked like a regular sandwich. Everything we purchased was not good and was barely worth the time to eat. On top of that the service was lackluster. My mother talked to the manager and she said they were going through some growing pains due to last manager leaving recently. She didn't really apologize; she just basically said it like we should just deal with it. Not something you do when dealing with the public. I do think for the 45 minutes we waited for our food we got the short end of the stick. This change has really upset my parents since this is where they send family to when they are in town. Well they just need to recommend Rocco's from now it seems if they want a great meal in a timely manner.

  • Josh K.

This place is an absolute joke. The entire staff seems to be the age of 15. The owner or manager is to busy to run the store. It's a shame. Hire up, staff accordingly, and you won't have people waiting 38 minutes for drinks.

    (1)
  • Samantha W.

Do not go to this restaurant!!! One star is being generous for the Shrimp Basket in Navarre. We waited for over 1 hour and 45 minutes before leaving because we had not yet received our food. Other patrons had been waiting longer and still had not received their food. The restaurant was not clean and the lemon in my water was rotten. When I say rotten, I mean the rind was black. We should have left after they brought the water.

Eating outdoors was nice with their heated ceilings keeping us warm. The service was great and the waitress was helpful. But I thought that the food was overpriced, all things considered. I was hoping for a traditional Southern experience but was somewhat disappointed. I thought the portions were a little small and the food was more "fast-food" than I was expecting.

  • Robin R.

I loved this place, it was a fun casual place to eat. I ordered the shrimp basket after chowing down on crab cake appetizers . We sat outside & it was awesome with the ice cold misters to cool us off. Since moving to Florida we have eaten here twice in one week & my parents ate here 3 times while on vacation to visit us & help us move in. We are from AR so we know & enjoy comfort food, with the Shrimp Basket's generous portions , low prices & delicious food it's hard not to eat here so many times in a week. After your done with dinner I would highly recommend the FRENCH SILK PIE, it's hands down made from heaven. So good! Trust me it's that good.

  • Ted F.

It's hard to rate this place. Everyone is nice and service is good as well. I just wouldn't come here when it's busy (yet it seems to always be busy). Waited about 50min for fired crawfish tails and shrimp tacos with fried okra. Room temp at best. I felt like I was already eating leftovers. I would recommend eating here when it's less busy. I'll give it another shot later.

Will never return. I ordered blackened fish at lunch. It was under cooked. I was very disappointed.

  • Chris H.

We had grilled shrimp and catfish basket. Food was hot and good. Service was good. There was a wait on food but they were busy on this night.

    (3)
  • Arlet J.

Boom boom shrimp was amazing. Service was great, a little slow but it was busy. Kids chicken strips looked burnt but when we tasted they had great flavor. I ordered the shrimp skewers, they were PERFECT. Spicy and yummy!

Having the AYCE Monday experience. Got in at 430, place filled up by 530. Ordered immediately but still slow to get food. The important part is that it's ALL good. Fried, blackened and grilled. And you can switch it up each time. The nu-potatoes are perfect. Refills are slow to arrive. Order ahead each time they bring some. Amber took care of our table. Good job, attentive. If they could speed it up, I'd go five stars for the beach fish place category.

So, if TCs and East River are closed and the roads to Pensacola and Destin are flooded, and McDonald's is on fire, then it's okay to eat here, I guess. First off- what kind of place doesn't serve a side with a sandwich?!? $8.00 po boy plus $2.50 for potato salad. That's ridiculous. Run of the mill overly breaded fried seafood, normal sides, po boys. Nothing spectacular. They may have had a one armed monkey shucking oysters, because they were absolutely mutilated. I would not return to the shrimp basket. Yuck.

    (1)
  • Chris D.

Honestly, this was a nice little gem while driving to Pensacola. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the food was really good. Servers were super sweet. She recommended the shrimp & chicken Alfredo, which was delicious. Refills on drinks were quick. Reasonably priced and super casual inside.

  • Melissa D.

Hands down the worst service of my life. After waiting over an hour and 15 minutes and dealing with a rude college aged female manager we decided to leave. When people are seated after you are getting their food before you and getting refills of AYCE shrimp it shows a lack of efficiency in the kitchen. The manager denied that our order was lost/forgotten. As we were getting ready to leave because we were starving and had children with us, the manager told us our food was almost ready and we could take it to go. She then handed us our check. No discounts. No apologies. No throwing in a litte something extra for making is wait an hour and 15 minutes. I'm not paying full price for AYCE shrimp when it is not all you can eat. I thought it was unprofessional to give us a bill before getting our food. We are never going back. I've banned this restaurant based on service alone. Making the customers happy should be a top priority and that night it was not. We are locals and used to eat there about once a month.

    (1)
  • Matt N.

We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes after our order was placed because in the words of the manager "all these people came in at the same time." She seemed baffled that large groups of people would arrive at a restaurant around 6 pm and actually expect to be served food. When we did get our order the food was ok. But since we ordered All You Can Eat, we expected to see our waitress sooner than the 35 minutes it took her to return. As it turns out you can only eat what they bring to your table.......

  • Al F.

This is usually our go to place for nice comfort food. Since our last visit, the outside seating area was expanded to accommodate more customers. Consequently, they've hired more servers and this last visit we didn't see any familiar severs. Immediately we noticed a decline in the service quality. Our food took longer than normal to come out, but I will say the jalapeño burger was amazing! Sadly my son didn't have the same luck with his fish taco. So food quality might be hit or miss. We had more issues with our server as she failed to pay attention to details when it came to bringing out all parts of our food at the same time and giving us refills with the wrong drinks. What was once a favorite restaurant that made us feel welcome as locals has now turned towards treating guests as numbers. At least that's how we felt tonight. Lastly, while debating on the amount of stars to give, my son gave a rating of two stars because he said his taco was terrible. So two stars it is.

    (2)
  • Victor T.

I would give 5 stars if you guys put scallops back on menu. I tried my son's popcorn shrimp and was surprised at how they were more tasty. Shrimp slaw delicious as usual. Hushpuppies were great once we found them. Tiny little tidbits. Overall better than normal, but not the best.

First night in Florida and all I could think about was raw oysters. It was dark, we were starving and at this point it did not matter where. The shrimp basket was having an all you can eat fried shrimp special but I just had to have those oysters on the half shell. I watched as they were professionally shucked and stacked on a plate with a build your own sauce makings. The first one was unbelievable. I had been eating these $3.00 each so called oysters in Denver and they could not even hold a candle. I was in heaven and as the locals do, I washed them down with the only beer on draft down here.....Bud Light. The husband had the crawfish sampler and was equally as happy and washed his down with a bottle of Yuenling. I hope this is a sign of good eating to come.

  • Wilson W.

We have visited other Shrimp Basket locations, so we knew what to expect. It's not gourmet, but the food is good. Our server was very attentive and she checked on us enough to meet our needs, and not too much to bug the fool out of us. I had the grilled shrimp po boy and my wife got fried shrimp. Lil bit got the chicken. Good experience.

    (4)
  • John T.

Terrible. Frozen, not fresh. The shrimp were tiny and gross. A seafood restaurant at the beach should have fresh seafood.

    (1)
  • Clay F.

I visited this place with some friends during spring break, and it blew away our expectations. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it ended up being one of the best meals on our whole trip. I ordered the blackened catfish with crawfish etouffee, and it was done perfectly. The spices on the fish weren't too overpowering, and the etouffee was just the right amount of spicy. It was a little expensive for what it was, each plate being around $10-$13. Still, I would recommend it to anyone looking for good food and a good atmosphere. I'm giving it four stars instead of five because I think an $8-$11 price range would be more suitable, not because of the taste. The four of us all wished we had discovered it sooner.

  • Tom J.

Filthy, floors black with grease and dirt. Inside lighting dim, maybe so dirt won't show. Service very slow. We have been going to Shrimp Basket since the first on opened in Gulf Shores Alabama. This should be closed until cleaned and staff trained to serve promptly.

    (1)
  • K F.

Small portions...mediocre taste (we had fried shrimp, fried popcorn shrimp, fried crawfish. Was not impressed. Shrimp are tiny, crawfish was micro-scopic. Service was 5-star....waitress was very friendly....she was the reason I gave them 2 stars. Food only would have received 1 star.

    (2)
  • Alex F.

The fish is definitely fresh, but if it wasn't for the tartar sauce, they would of lost me. Had shrimp and fish fried combo. It was good but maybe not for the money. The key lime pie was whipped and creamy, pretty nice. Service was outstanding, servers were very sweet.

  • Chad E.

Not at all what I was expecting from the outside looking in. Was a pleasant surprise when we arrived for lunch and were greated promptly at the door. The outside of this place reminds you of a fast food joint (wendy's or long johns) that had been conveted into a new restaraunt. The interior was a lot nicer even though still on the dive size (just like I like). Wait staff was really helpful, not to mention easy on the eyes. We had fried shrimp, crawfish gumbo, and mahi tacos. All were great. If you like local seafood this is a great place to try. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the standard lettuce / tom / sourcream on the mahi tacos. They needed the mex treatment of cabbage slaw and a chipotle sauce to be really great.

  • Tanya D.

We love this place! We went two times in three days. First, we liked the casual diner feel. The staff were super friendly and service was prompt. I appreciated that our server wrote little notes on my little girl's cup and our check when she found out it was her birthday. I come from the motherland of fried seafood and have been disappointed in the way they treat beautiful shrimp east of Bay St. Louis. However, the Shrimp Basket got it right! Lightly battered and fried crispy. The oysters and catfish were in a cornmeal batter and they were good too. I got the grilled shrimp one time and they were basted in some kind of Carribean sauce (not jerk) which was light, not too sweet and not too saucy. It was served with rice, which I didn't eat, but ok, and grilled French bread. I would totally recommend this if you aren't in the mood for fried. They have some good all you can eat deals and overall the price was decent.

  • Chris V.

Great seafood. My wife really enjoyed the fresh, fried shrimp. Hushpuppies were very flavorful and cooked perfect. I gave the restaurant three stars due to the slow service. Very slow. If you're not in a hurry you'll really enjoy this meal.

  • arlene m.

We love the shrimp basket! This place feels 'mom and pop' even though they have several locations. It's busy so at high tourist season, expect a wait. The grilled food seasoning is excellent and the portion sizes are large for the price. When they have an 'all you can eat' night, it's truly just that. The food here is lightly fried but the steamed or grilled food is outstanding.

    (4)
  • Jamie N.

This place is not worth your money! I went for all you could eat shrimp expecting a bucket of steam delicious shrimp and got about 8 steamed shrimp on my plate with a side of veggies. The shrimp was the toughest seafood I have ever had in my life! It tasted like dirt and had no seasoning on it. My kids each got kids meals, fried fish and the fried shrimp. They both left still hungry. Their fries that came with it were old and horrible. I haven't had bad food in a long time nor do I ever send my plate back but this was bad enough to warrant it. I'll never go back.

We like to go on Friday nights. Always greeted by one of the owner's, Hostess. Locally owned & operated. We have been eating at the restaurant since it opened. Good food, service, prices and very casual atmosphere. I love to get the Blue Crab Claws and order a side salad and side of Hush-puppies for my meal. My hubby loves their fried oysters or the broiled scallops/shrimp. He often gets fish, which I am not a fan of. The Key Lime pie is a must. If you don't like whip cream ask them to leave it off before they serve to you. Enjoy our local restaurants!

Eaten there twice this week while on vacation. Food is very good and wait staff and prices are great. Gets busy so go early or later.

Typical fried food, nothing special really. Catfish is fresh and tasty, hush puppies are pretty good and shrimp slaw uniquely good. Friendly staff and prompt service.
