Too bad...went on a Friday night after an early evening social event but had a very sweet/sour experience (yes, I recognize this is in inappropriate metaphor for Mexican cuisine!). Ate in their patio off the parking area. The starter bowl of chips with selection of 3 sauces was spectacularly good, almost enough in itself to justify the trip! Incredible chipotle and 2 other sauces. Our dinners were very good. However, margueritas were weak and average taste. And worse yet, the service was abysmally slow. Actually had to get up at one point to search out a waiter. Waiter was supremely apologetic when we (hopefully) tactfully mentioned the slow service, claiming that the chef was doubling as the bartender (?) and that they were short-staffed on Friday nights. We may try once more and see if this awful service was a fluke.

I found this place on yelp and stopped in today. It was a little tricky to find. It is close to the Winn Dixie. I parked along the street behind Winn Dixie for $1.50/hour. Upon entering, I was promptly seated. They have a lunch menu available on Saturday! They quickly brought me a small pitcher of water and a small glass. I had to ask for a regular size glass and ice. They also brought me fresh chips and a red and green sauce. The green sauce is spicy! The red was very flavorful and i mixed it with the green to get a kick. I liked the chips. they tasted like fresh fried corn tortillas. The restaurant was warm the day I was there. They might have been having AC issues. I ordered the three taco combo that comes with rice and beans. The beans are whole pinto beans and don't have much flavor. The tacos are served in corn shells and are stuffed! I had shredded chicken, carnitas, and steak/pork belly. They are topped with chopped onion and tomato. They were all delicious. All that food for only $10. Staff provided GREAT service. Water was promptly refilled, food served quickly, and plates cleared. Ambiance is nice. There is no bar area. You can hear your food being cooked. Overall, a great place for food and service. I would return.

Ordered guac with chips and they were nice and warm and the guac was good in flavor added the two spicy sauces that come with it on the side to give it a kick (: For my main dish had the steak burrito. Which was good too. It was made a little different then other Mexican restaurants. The menu is simple not that many selections but in overall great service and fresh food !

I came here on a Thur afternoon cause I drove by it in the morning when I dropped off my car to get serviced. I think it was around 2pm and place was empty. That was ok for me cause I didn't have a lot time so service will be swift. Place was clean and loved the fun colors, furnishings & light fixtures. My server was very attentive and friendly. First, she brought a bowl of complimentary chips. The chips were fresh and hot and the 2 dips that came with it were tasty. I preferred the red one..had a nice spicy kick. Then, I ordered 3 soft tacos. 2 pulled pork and 1 carne. They were made to order and was impressed by the flavor and portion. Chunks of meat and tacos were warm and soft. Plus the meal was served with a side of rice and beans. Wow...plenty of food for just 10 bucks! I wish it was closer to work but I will definitely be back when I get a longer lunch break.

I went here for an early dinner one Sunday with high hopes. I ordered a margarita, the ceviche appetizer and chicken enchiladas. The ceviche and enchiladas were extremely salty. I've tried lots of Mexican restaurants and never tasted food this salty. The salt overpowered and destroyed all the flavors. When my enchiladas were brought to my table, I told the waitress how salty the ceviche appetizer was. She apologized and told the cook. I think I finished about a little less than half the ceviche because I was starving. I almost finished one of the enchiladas but couldn't take it anymore. Again I told the waitress who apologized. I was charged for the margarita and the ceviche, which I was ok with since I ate about half. If you like cuisine -- I won't say Mexican because I won't attribute this to my people's food -- that tastes only of salt, try this place, or stay home and eat your own salt at home for a cheaper price.

Absolutely excellent Mexican food in Coral Gables. You must try the Legends taco, it is to die for. I stopped by the Mexzican Gourmet after attending an event in a Coral Gables. Yelpers seemed to like the place and that was good enough for me. Upon arriving we found this quaint little place to be completely empty (it was 30 min before closing). Our server was fast and courteous bringing homemade chips and salsa and our drinks very quickly. He was also quite helpful in recommending things on the menu and even advised us that we may be ordering too much food (2 x Fajitas + Taco appetizer). We started with the Legends Tacos for an appetizer, and they were simply amazing. They were so good that when our main dish (steak mocheta) arrived soon after, I found myself ordering another set if the legends tacos and taking the steak home. They were simply fantastic. Overall I found Mexzican Gourmet to have excellent service, excellent food and the best darn tacos I've had since the Yelp taco cook off. Just really good, authentic Mexican food with friendly staff and fast service. A completely deserved 5 Stars. If you're close by make sure you stop in and try this place. You won't be disappointed. P.S. Make sure you order the a Legends Tacos, you'll thank me. :-)

The food here is great!! Very fresh and full of flavor. The guacamole is a must have. OMG you've gotta try the steak burrito as well. I couldn't get enough of the complimentary chips and salsa. Ask for Jahni, she's a great server... Very friendly and quick on her feet.

I'm so confused as to why this place has such stellar reviews? I found the food mediocre at best. Maybe I was already put off by my entire dining experience when our waters came out in a glass jar with a shot glass as the cup. Literally, a shot glass. What am I supposed to do with that? The guac was good - they had that going for them. The fajitas were...odd. No pico de gallo or lettuce or cheese or anything to coincide with them. Had I not gotten a Groupon, I would have never tried this place and even with a Groupon I probably wouldn't return. The upside: this place was completely dead at 8-9pm on a Thursday when we came in. It was nice outside so we sat on the patio and were thoroughly entertained by the hookers at BT's Strip Club next door showing up for their shifts. It was a sight to see over the course of our meal. Enjoy!

One word : burrito I'm not a fan of burritos at all, but my fiancé and I came here one night after running errands and boy oh boy! What a treat ! The service here was nothing short of excellent! We were greeted with some free chips and 3 salsas that were delicious!!!! I ordered tacos and my fiancé a burrito. My tacos were tasty, but nothing special. But for the price, I wasn't about to complain. Now, my honey's burrito ( I stole a bite or 3) was mouth watering perfection. Everything about it was fresh and clean and warm and... Ok. I'm getting hungry. Coffee was good. And flan was the only complaint i had. They added chocolate to the bottom for decoration. But with any custard, since it's so delicate, the chocolate overpowered the flavor and ruined the dish. I will be back soon. That darn burrito... Mmmmmmm

We were looking for a mexican restaurant to eat..we found this and called to make reservations. Everything was excellent: service, ambiance, margaritas, chips and salsas..the tomatillo salsa was the best salsa with a perfect combination of lime, cilantro, salt etc. The food was delicious..everything is very authentic.

Holy wow.. I'm super satisfied.. Super authentic gourmet Mexican Restaurant.. Better than station 5. Food is fresh made to order. I had the queso encendido, Fresh guacamole, pork and Carne asada cárnitas. Pork was beyond this world, definitely a Must have.. Churros on the way now.. Our server Diana was super awesome and attentive.. Well versed on the menu.

Its my first time to eat here with my sister yesterday and I'm delighted. The free chips with three sauces were amazing! I ordered the steak tacos and my sister ordered the pulled pork tacos. Good amount of steak on my mini tacos and the pulled pork - its so fresh like lechon fresh. We also ordered the tortilla soup a must try as well. And to finish it off with the churros. I will be back soon!

  • Sid R.

Loved this place. We're had the fish taco and they were really one of the best. The preparation, sauce and the fish were all outstanding. The shrimp tacos were exquisite. We found our slice of beach food all the way from Washington DC. The coffee flan was the best way to end the meal.

  • Amanda F.

There aren't a lot of authentic Mexican restaurants around here, so I'm glad to have found this place thru yelp. The carnitas/shrimp tacos, the cheese dip, chile Reno and the churros all excellent! Btw, the margaritas are quite yummy too! :)

Ordered 1 legend taco, 1 carne asada and 1 chicken in sauce taco. All 3 were great! Legends one is a bit greasy but delicious. Great for delivery in the South Miami area.

  • Alex S.

To all foodies in South Miami- I salute you! This place has, hands down, THE BEST Mexican food in Miami. I don't say this lightly, we came tonight to confirm our earlier impressions from a prior visit- and I was just floored by the #1 steak tacos I've ever had, as in EVER! The guacamole was outstanding, and my wife is also raving about the chicken quesadillas. Overall, everything appears freshly made so the service is a tad slow, but you'll forgive that when your meal arrives. Love this place, we will definitely be back!

    (5)
  • Gabriel F.

This place is a great sit down Mexican restaurant where the food is delicious and the service is great. I would recommend getting the Pulled Pork Burrito or a Chicken Quesadilla if you're looking for something lighter. We finished our meal with Churros which were very sweet and tasty. My only complaint is that my beer wasn't very cold. Other than that, awesome food, I'd definitely return.

I had lunch here last week and this was my first visit. I was surprised that the restaurant wasn't busier because the food was fantastic! The chips and salsa were very authentic and the fish tacos were some of the best I've had. They served three tacos with rice and beans that I swore I would never finish. Well guess what - I did! Food was great and service was excellent. I'll be back for sure!

Good chicken enchiladas. Good chips. The chipotle salsa is too unconventional for me.

We had originally came here because we bought a groupon and the from looking at the menu online, it sounded delicious! Well, it definitely succeeded in meeting our expectations. The staff is very nice and welcoming. The environment has a nice home feel to it and not to forget to mention the food!!!! Amazing!!! My husband and I had tacos of carnitas and shrimp... To die for! I will definitely be coming back! :)

After a day at the beach, we were craving Mexican food and was not disappointed with MexZican restaurant. Ambience was pleasantly nice. The service was prompt and courteous. The recommendations for appetizer, entrée, & dessert from our waiter were spot on. The Queso Fundido with chorizo was a combination of yumminess....smooth chihuahua cheese and flavorful chorizo sausage. We had the Molcajete with carne which included perfectly cooked steak, melted cheese, more chorizo, pieces of tender cactus (I think it was cactus? ), in a delightful broth, with hot tortillas. Oh, it's served in a big stone bowl and serves two. Just wonderful! We were full....but read the flan was something not to be missed. Previous yelpers were correct about the flan. The cappuccino flan was fantastic. Overall, I highly recommend MexZican restaurant.

I love their burritos and tacos, I'm from NYC and since I moved to Miami I hadn't found a good mexican restaurant until now. This is a MUST. Good customer service, excelent prices and nice environment.

I really struggled giving this place three stars but I think it's fair. I think 2.75 would be more fair but here's to rounding up. Cheers! I have been twice with two inverse experiences. The first time was good food, bad service. The second time was great service and very disappointing food. I know Miami is not known for great Mexican food but I LOVE Mexican and This place is less than 10 minutes away. Unfortunately they have not given me a reason to return. As expected you receive complimentary chips and salsa. There is a very good salsa verde and some other creamy orangish Sauce of which I was not a fan. I got a mediocre margarita ($9). Both times we came, which were months apart, we ordered Queso Fundido with mushrooms and both times they did not have it (mushrooms). We opted to get plain fundido ($10) which was a mistake. The cheese was not properly melted. We didn't even finish it. Which says a lot if you know how I feel about cheese. For an entree I orders steak nachos. Bigger mistake. They came soaked in some bland almost curdled cheese sauce. I tried my best to enjoy it but by the time I was one third of the way through the nachos were soggy and pretty inedible. I aborted mission. So why I am giving this place 3 stars. For one the first time I can I had a decent Chile Rellenos with steak entree for dinner. The Mister enjoyed his shrimp tacos and the chicken quesadilla we got for my three year old was decent. But none of this is good enough for me to return for round three.

Amazing restaurant! I don't want to say it's authentic Mexican food, because it truly isn't but it's not so far from it. Came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and almost every table was filled up inside with about two outside. There was only one cook and one waitress so the service was a bit slow, which is the only drawback to this place. We ordered a shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and it was honestly one of the best ceviches I've ever had. We also ordered a chicken taco and a steak taco. AMAZING!! Great atmosphere and the price is not too bad either. I'd just recommend to have more people working during lunch time. Will definitely be back

The salsas that come with the chips are all great, the guacamole is really good too, but it just needs to be served with more chips and not tortillas. I had a chicken torta which was a good portion and very flavorful. Husband had the enchiladas which were great as well. The only down side was that we kept having to ask for drinks and chips and it took a little while to get them. Otherwise it was all good.

    (4)
  • Anna H.

The torta here is one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life. They don't always have them though, so you have to call ahead. Everything here - down to the free chips - is extremely fresh. The chips and salsa are amazing, and so is the guacamole. Can't recommend this place enough. Get the tortas!

It was four of us and we all had different things but tried each others food. All I can say is my burrito was delicious and the mimosa I had with it was perfection. Enchiladas, legendary tacos, menudo.... Ehhh. I cant remember what else but it was the goodness. The meat in everything was seasoned perfectly. No complaints. The ratings compliment the food.

Love this place. My wife and I come here all the time. The food is great (love the tostadas carne asada) and we can't get enough of the complimentary chips and salsas. The owner is great and she is always very inviting and friendly. I recommend this place to all. Make sure to also come by for brunch. The chilaquiles rock and are obviously well accompanied by mimosas.

Hidden jewel. This is the best mexican food that I've had in the Miami Area, from thei guacamole to the agua de orchata, everything is delicious. Try the chicken tacos, guacamole with chips and agua de orchata. The chips are home-made, they will be served fresh and hot. The shredded chicken is the best I've had, the steak for the tostadas of tacos is also delicious. Have a great mexican meal!

  • Sydney M.

The food was good but it was unexpectedly expensive for the quality. Staff was friendly. The place was empty when I went but the owner told me that it fills up later in the night. If you have Prime card through the Miami Herald you can get a 25% off discount here!

It may be the only Mexican restaurant nearby, but its great food and Micheladas stand out from all the local restaurants. If you dont know what a Michelada is, put down your Mojito or your Bud Light and try living a little more. Their Burrito de Asada is really tasty, especially with the spicy (not so spicy) all up in it. Get living and taste out of the ordinary. With the weather permitting, sit out side and add a side of people watching to your menu. Very nice.

Horrible! Have a allergy? Don't eat here! They just opened in pembroke lakes mall. As an employee at the mall I was so excited because most mexican food is edible when you have celicac disease like I do. Well I just asked them to change gloves before preparing my food and WOW what a response. Some highlights were "I'll ask but he probably won't" we have 3 restaurants and haven't killed anyone" "I just put these gloves on I'm not changing them" "get a refund if you don't like it" "you're over exaggerating your disease" it went on and on throughout my refund. I'm not normally sensitive to others comments but by the time chef ze Carlos Jimenez and his cashier were done with me I actually teared up. *The owner is now threatening my job for posting my experience. They contacted my store and stated they would be be contacting my corporate office and make false complaints against me.

The restaurant is located in a popular area of a tiny Downtown. We had Living Social deal and we are glad we tried this place. The restaurant is tastefully done. It's not overly pretentious but it's not fast-foodish type either. The result is an atmosphere where one can have a conversation and a good meal. Their tortilla were freshly prepared and we loved it. Chicken tortilla soup had good crunch and plenty of flavorful chicken. Fish and carnita tacos were well seasoned and in right portion sizes. I wish they would allow different mean options for a taco entre. I wanted to try chicken, shrimp, and fish but they apparently don't allow that. Our server was excellent, attentive and detail-oriented, and made our visit enjoyable. We will be back!

  • Jackie S.

Almost all the things I raved about in my original review are no longer true! First off the service has taken a wicked turn for the worse. The staffs attention to detail has plummeted....drink refills, chips on command!?! Those are a thing of the past. Waiters are scarce nowadays. Homemade chips...goneeee!!! Those yummy think, crunchy, freshly fried chips have been replaced by mass produced cardboard tasting tortillas chips....boo!!! But my biggest pet peeve is the ceviche Verde. Where is it???? I had it once, wrote this blazing review and poof...dissapeared! Shame on you Mexican Gourmet...your ratings have taken a major dive!

  • Juan S.

This place was just OK. Nothing special, food was just ok and a little on the bland side. Service was decent. Restaurant could use some freshening up /renovation. When you see a cool place like Buns and Buns open down the street with a much nicer interior, you really don't want to hang out in a place like this that looks direct from the 80s/90s.

    (3)
  • Stephen S.

TORTA CARNE ASADA. That's it. That's the entire review. Eat it. It's the best sandwich in town. End of conversation. Oh, and they're the only ones around that know how to make tortilla chips. I like them a little on the soft side. As I've mentioned in other posts, I've spent a lot of time in places known for their Mexican food (like Mexico... and Southern California and South Texas). I'm not saying I'm an authority, but Mexican food in Miami is generally (and generally known to be) horrific (though it has started pulling itself into the realm of passable). These guys do a solid job.

Que Rico! And this coming from a total gringa! Very difficult to find authentic Mexican food in Miami, let alone with such excellent quality and taste. Guacamole was fresh and rich and both the tortillas and chips are homemade and fantastic. Location is immediately adjacent to US-1 next to Sunset so easily accessible and parking both on the street and a small lot behind the restaurant. For the main course we had the taco trio. Shredded chicken was moist and the right amount of seasoning to be flavorful but not overwhelming. No sour cream or condiments needed! Very refreshing. Steak and shredded pork were also great. Overall pricing, atmosphere, and QUALITY OF FOOD was superb.

We had a party there for about 25 people and the food was really not good. They brought out a series of different plates but they were tasteless and not very nutritious at all. It was my son's choice but I had to pay half the bill. They quoted us a reasonable price but the food was not up to par. I will never eat there again.

Amazing tacos! I first tried them from their food truck and was blown away. They are not skimpy on the meat and their prices are affordable for the quality. I am a big fan of the steak tacos and the queso fundido appetizer! Definitely a must-try! Updated 2/1/14- I have tried tacos with chicken a couple times and realized I don't like the chicken. It is shredded and a little bland. I, personally, am not a fan I shredded chicken as it tastes boiled to me. This made me drop my rating from 5 stars to 4.

When there last night with the family, and I guess the lack of people should've been enough warning, we've should have stayed away. First off the only beer they had were a few golden modelos and nothing else. So cannot common on the margarita. As for the appetizers ordered the chicken flautas which were OK and some steak nachos which were flavorless and not crunchy at all as they were swimming on a pool of liquidy cheese. One of the servers must've been having a terrible night, he was so inattentive and arrogant it was just uncomfortable. Won't be coming here again!!!

Good traditional Mexican food. Tacos were fresh and light, good flavor. Burrito was delicious. The chips and salsa where great. You get 3 sauces and all 3 were delicious.

Not an easy place to find, but once you are there you are charmed ie. charming patio, great ambiance, friendly staff and a personal greeting from Chef Carlos himself, what more can you ask for!! Not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant for sure... The food was delicious! We ordered the guacamole it was spot on. We inquired about the cactus salad, something I would have never ordered in a million years, and was surprised of how delicious it was. We finished with the fish tacos and they to didn't disappoint. I will definitely return!

The sauce for the chips are delicious. . We ordered French toast and tacos. The French toast is great to get after you eat the yummy tacos Love everything here. I can't wait to come back Great stuff and the owner/ chef is a gem. See you soon!! Yummy

"Just park around back the strip club"...Says the guy giving me directions. Turns out the restaurant is around the back of BT's. I'm not familiar with the area but seems like I've heard of the place before. Ok, so a Mexican restaurant, behind a strip club, this should be interesting. And indeed it was, the walk from the car to the entrance provided it's own kind of entertainment as it was around 8 and turns out the employees were arriving, anyways it was time for tacos! Oddly enough, I was the only one in the restaurant, and given I used my trusty Yelp App to find the location, I expected...well more people. The service was great, obviously, but two other groups walked in, actually sat down looked around the room, got up and walked out. I must have looked intimidating. I suspect they were just expecting more of a crowd too. Having dinner basically with the waiter was good enough time, nothing that a margarita and a few Corona's couldn't fix. The food was really well done, the guac was excellent and it was just the kind of authentic Mexican food spot I was looking for. If your a fan of middle country Mexican you'll enjoy this place a lot, but if your looking for Mexican done Cuban style then go somewhere else, most of the dishes don't have fruit in them. Overall, good, if I'm in the hood I'll try it again, however I'm not driving south to get seconds.

The food was mediocre and a bit pricey for it's quality. The waiter was attentive but when I asked for a small side of salsa "Pico de Gallo" for my 3 tacos he told me that they would have to charge me extra for it. I was shocked since all Mexican restaurants that I have been to many of different salsas are complimentary and part of the meal. It's almost like a burger joint would charge extra for ketchup or mayo. This was not an order of $2.00 per taco. The three tacos cost $15.00 and they were one of the worst I've had. The beef was dried and tough and I'm sure it's because they have it cooked and chopped and then just reheat when you place the order. The order of the three tacos can not be of different ones they have to be all of one kind. I've been to quite less expensive Mexican restaurants where they cook the beef to order. Also the parking at this location is horrible you have to park at a meter and walk almost a block, I understand it's a busy location where parking is limited but if that is the case they should offer valet parking services. Then at the end the receipt says that when you come back for the 10th time you'll receive 10% off. Really! Are you kidding! Our bill for two people was $58.00 (without alcoholic drinks) so that means that I have to spend $600.00 in order to save six bucks...incredible!

Ok, after 10 years in San Antonio- my family is quite snobbish about Mexican food. This is the only awesome Mexican in Miami!! The enchiladas suizas were fantastic as were the tacos and cerviche. The corn tortillas were fresh and perfect and the salsas were all delicious and different from one another. The food is absolutely 5 stars-- I removed a star because there is not a full bar and the valets for the "gentlemen's club" next door were loud and obnoxious and we were dining outside. We will absolutely return and highly recommend Mexzican to anyone seeking great authentic Mixicsn food. I'll keep hoping they get a liquor license so I can have a margarita or 4 sometime.... :)

Came because I was craving Mexican breakfast. Being Mexican makes incredibly picky with Mexican food. I lived in Mexico for a while and grew up eating delicious homemade food everyday. So, it's rare to find a place that I like here in Miami. This is one of them. Chips and salsa ARE freshly made. They are thick and warm and are clearly not just poured out from a bag. The salsas were great, I just wish they had a spicier option. Chilaquiles is my favorite breakfast food ever. Switched the chicken to eggs bc I'm a vegetarian. Perfect amount of sauce, the chips were still slightly crunchy, the beans on the side were great, eggs were great. Overall it was a solid dish. Only thing it needed was to be a little spicier. My gf ordered the chorizo and eggs baguette. They had ran out of bread so they offered a wrap instead (gave us free espresso because of this). She liked it but she would've preferred the baguette. Not a big deal. Service was incredible. Food came out within 10-15 minutes. Waiters were super attentive and nice! The only thing i would change is a little less salt overall and a little more spice. That's it. Great place! Would definitely go again.

Best Mexican food around. I'm not usually a fan of Mexican but my wife and I went there on a whim and I left having the best burrito of my life. (Carne azada) now I go there almost every week. They always have excellent, quick and consistent costumer service. If you're in the mood for Mexican I suggest you give this place a shot. It's a little pricey but well worth the price!

My girlfriends and I went last night and had a male server who was very arrogant to say the least. On the other hand there was also a girl taking care of us that was a sweetheart. The food was good but my ceviche was mostly lime juice....the portion was minimal.... They only had Margaritas, no other liquor....would not recommend...

Good service- Weak $9 Margaritas-booo Basket for chips is very small, so you have to ask for refills a few times if you like chips and salsa (but it's free, so that's good). Pork tacos are pretty tasty. Guac is very good. You can sit outside and bring your pooch-always a + to me And for an added bonus: You can smell the hookah coming from next door and watch the girls go into work their shifts at the gentlemen's club next door.

Service sucks. Waiter started talking to another table mid ordering my dinner. Been waiting for an hour, have yet to get my order of guacamole.

Luved the carne asada tacos and the margaritas. The carne asade is seasoned just right........ it tastes fresh with that lime & cilantro flavor. Did not care for the chicken taco, I didn't like the shredded chicken they use on their chicken dishes. I got the 3 tacos, 2 carne asada & 1 chicken... Ended up leaving chicken & making a 3rd carne asada taco with the little tortilla and some carne asada left over from the other tacos... The queso fundido is delicous. It is a baked melted cheese that you can place inside a tortilla. Also, original flan is DELICIOUS , did not care for guava flan. I like the complimentary chips that they give you with the dipping sauces. The chips are made fresh and they come to the table nice and hot! Overall I liked the place, just would like portions to be a bit bigger or a cheaper price.

I looooooved the fish and shrimp tacos!!!!! Whoever said the food was tasteless must just not like it but I'm sure the rest of her party enjoyed the food. I'm not sure what nutritious means when you're eating Mexican food ....for that just don't eat out. I am very pleased and didn't even know this place existed!!!! I wanted seconds with my meal!!!

Started great but went downhill. Wonderful guacamole with large portion and cunks of avacado. When my mother went to ladies room there was no toilet paper anywhere. Tough for anyone but especially so for a 93 year old. Then no decaf coffee available. Our waiter was very nice but didn't make up for the food quality. Huevos rancheros were just eggs on top of fried tortillas and a little bit of a bland sauce. Nothing else was served with it. I has the scrambled egg tacos and they looked really dry so I asked for some kind of sauce for them and nothing was available only the stuff that was on my husbands hue so, no salsa verde or anything else in the kitchen? Hard to believe. I have never rated a place with one star before and I rarely say I won't go back to a restaurant but this time I have changed my mind. Sadly we won't go back,

Read some great reviews and decided to eat here before the movies at Sunset. Service was fast and our server was friendly. The chips were hot and fresh with three sauces. I liked the spicy one and the other green one but there was a red sauce that I could do without. Ordered the guacamole as an appetizer and it had to have been made fresh because there were avocado halves thrown in there. Not the best mashing/mixing job of guac I've seen but it was good. I have to say that what lacked for me was flavor. The guacamole was missing something for sure and we ordered a mix of their tacos and while the meats were super tender and moist they just didn't have much flavor to them. Except for maybe salt. I definitely tasted salt in there. So I added a couple of their sauces and some gauc and voila...it helped. It was a good experience. Not sure it's really gourmet though and not sure I will be going back anytime soon unless they have some good happy hour deal going on or something. But I still say try it!

Great spot for a light and fresh lunch. I had no idea they also have a food truck. The food and service was great and the chips and dips were amazing. I will be back for sure during my next visit.

I don't really like Mexican food but this is pretty good! The nachos and salsa on the table when we walked in was really fresh and crazy spicy. But still enjoyable! I ordered three tacos: chicken, steak, and the legendary. The puebla chicken was pretty ok, really drippy though, it leaked all over the plate. Tasty though. The carne asana taco was very filling. Loaded with steak that was nice and buttery with a smoky taste. Delicious. If I came for dinner I would order that. The legendaria was fantastic. I highly recommend three of those. The flavors were perfect!! Definitely ask for the onions and cilantro on the side. I feel like I just ate two whole onions. Not too pleasant. I brushed most of it off but it was still crazy strong.

Ehhh not in love, sorry! Went on a saturday for the miami spice (i was craving some mexican) and by the end of the lunch i could not wait to get out of there! Lets start with the parking, its complicated to put it lightly. They have one valet guy for like 6 restaurants. I ended up parking on the streets. Fresh chips are always a plus and 3 different sauces were a nice touch. *the guacamole by itself got its own star in this review, its expensive but its good* i had the enchiladas de pollo and they come 4 and i didnt even finish two, they were bland, waterdown by the sauce and unimaginative. The guava flan was good but very very sweet (sugar coma) The worst thing? THE NOISE The music was super loud and very old fashioned and the acuatics are horrible. I could hear everything thar was happening in the kitchen and everybody's conversation Oh and they took my water away before bringing the dessert.

Authentic Mexican... and this is coming from someone who grew up in Texas and has lived in Mexico! First time there and I will definitely return. We tried the guacamole, the carne asada tacos, the legendario tacos and the carne asada torta. All amazing. Great service and a nice casual atmosphere. An easy 5 stars!

I had long given up my quest for delicious Mexican food in Miami. And I mean Mexican food- not Tex-Mex, not Taco Bell..not sour cream and lettuce on ground beef...MEXICAN. FRIJOLES. QUESO BLANCO. REAL TORTILLAS. My search ended abruptly upon discovering this corner spot, off on US1 and sunset ( and yes, right next to BT's- this shall be a point of reference) on a Saturday afternoon. Walking into the bright, but small restaurant, I was a bit worried about the lack of clientele there. Oh but my worries were put to rest and fast! I've gone back a few times since then, and I always start with the same thing : queso fundido. Don't want chorizo in it? The mushroom is just as good, if not better. And they don't serve this with any regular ol' tortilla chips, oh no- you get these small, warm, fresh corn tortillas, to make these little mini queso tacos with as you wait. I could stretch that cheese on that tortilla for hours. HOURS. My staples are normally the shrimp tacos and the carnitas. They're presented perfectly in corn tortillas, with just onion, cilantro..and that's pretty much it. That's all they need! I recently discovered their molcajete- which is an huge bowl of shrimp..stew is the best I can describe it, with queso fundido melted into it and a slew of veggies. You sop it all up with tortillas...it is glorious! There are plenty of places in Miami that claim to make tacos, or some sort of bastardized version of a burrito, enchilada or what have you. Forget all you ever knew about Mexican in Miami and head over to Chef Z's spot. You won't regret one bite!

Our family was at a hospital nearby and we are all fans of Mexican food, so looking around on New Year's Eve we came across this restaurant. Thanks to Yelp reviews we decided to check it out. It was amazing. It seems to be more traditional Mexican food. I would have given this 5 stars if it wasn't for the beginning of our lunch. We got chips and salsa but they were so stingy with the salsa. Then they explained to us they had run out. So they gave us what they had left. I didn't realize they were going to close right after we left so they weren't going to make fresh salsa for just us. The little we did get was delicious. Everything took a little time, but you can tell everything was made to order and extremely fresh. Highly recommend the steak tacos. The guacamole is delicious. The portions aren't huge, but they are filling. The churros were also the best I have had in a long time. Our waiter lacked in personality, but she brought us everything we asked for. Overall, great experience for an impromptu lunch on New Year's Eve.

A nice cute little place hidden behind a strip club. However, both the food and service is good. Although I expected a little bit more since the prices are not that cheap but it wasn't as bad; at least it tasted good. There are not a lot of food options in the menu so that sucks but I would try it again maybe for a quick bite on the weekend. The place is very small so not good for a big group and the outside seating doesnt have the best view.

This restaurant is a hole in the wall but it is a must. This is honestly one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to. It is genuine and not "americanized" at all. The queso fundido with chorizo & guacamole as appetizers are a MUST. Love the carne asada tacos as well. The staff is very amiable and attentive. The only problem is you can't get a margarita here to fulfill the whole experience, only beer or wine.

Hubby and I have been here a few times due to a friend who swears by this place. Service always seems amiable, perhaps it is because the place is never packed when we go, the servers are a able to be more helpful. Food is quite good, the stars for me were the queso fundido (with everything in it) and the cappuccino flan, amazing! The shrimp tacos were nothing to write home about, but the chile relleno and enchilada are really tasty. Definitely a bit on the pricey side, but I would expect nothing less from its location. This is certainly a more colorful option than its surrounding restaurants.

I'm going to have to shoot this place down some. The food was OK. Don't get me wrong. But it is way overpriced. The portions are too small and you leave there a bit hungry. Even after an appetizer and a dinner entree. If they upped the portion sizes and decreased the menu prices about 25%, they would have alot more returning customers. Dear owner: there is a reason your very small restaurant is rarely full and it's not the quality of the food.

I have to admit I already was a fan. This was one of our food truck favorites at the round-ups. I was so happy when I saw the Mexzican had his own brick & mortar. My Father-in-law is Mexican with that I tell you that there were some high standards to be met here. The food was great! Very well seasoned, cooked properly we were very pleased. Why not 5 stars? Well, my Father in Law ordered the Toztadas. The flavors were wonderful however the presentation was not traditional. He wasn't too happy when I arrived with our dinner, we ordered take-out.

The reason I am giving this place 3 stars is not because of the quality of the food. The quality and taste get 4.5 stars, it would've been 5 if it wasn't for the rice looking like it was scraped from the pan. The 3 stars are because of the service. When we arrived the only server looked like he was flustered and rushed. It was Saturday night and at 7pm is was starting to get busy. We sit down and they bring us the menus, my friend was really hungry so we decided to order right away. We ordered the 3 tacos, mine was beer battered shrimp $15.50 and hers were the steak $12.50, I admit they were pricey, but I remembered how good the ones from their food truck were so I wanted to check out their restaurant, and these came with rice and beans. We waited for about 10 minutes when we realized everyone else had chips and salsa or their table but us. So I asked the server if we could have some, he said they were being made and would bring some as soon as they were ready. Ok, so we waited some more and when they came, there were like 10 chips with tiny containers of 3 types of salsas, which I thought were delicious but the chips did not fit, so it was a real pain to get them on the chips ruining the chips and salsa experience. Then the tacos come, and no rice and beans, the server leaves and asks if we wanted anything else, and I ask "Oh, I thought the menu said they came with rice and beans?" and he says, "Oh, you want the rice and beans?' Um yeah, I do, why wouldn't we? (I didn't say the last part, but I thought of it in my head) lol So he was a little annoyed and brought us the smallest containers with rice and black beans. Whatever we were hungry so we start eating. Then my friend wanted a spicier sauce so she asks for one, and the server asks if we would like to try grilled jalapenos, and she agrees, but he never mentions they were an additional $2. They were very spicy so she tried a little piece and left them. He never came by to refill our water and I started seeing other waitresses appear as the place became busier, so it made me realize he just wasn't very attentive. We pay and I am leaving the restaurant I see a plate of food being prepared with a nice side-dish size of rice and beans. I was so disappointed and felt I got gypped. I will not be going back, I miss the truck!

My usual barometer for the quality of a Mexican restaurant is the chips and salsa. If they are very good, the food usually is just as good or better. Yet, though I did find the chips and salsa awesome, the food left a lot to be desired. I went for brunch on a Sunday and had the egg quesadilla. It was actually quite bland. Also, though some of the dishes came w a side of potatoes, mine did not. I was originally happy to see that you could get 2 free mimosa refills when you purchase one for $5 but then realize they can make that offer because the mimosas are super weak! My husband ordered the French Toast and he said they were pretty good. Pancakes not so much.

Worst food ever... Idk what the others reviews say about this place the food being good is bs!!! I order tostadas and they brought them out in like 3 minutes after I order... Cold chicken nasty no flavor and no cream when I asked why they say they didn't have! Well maybe say that b4 u sell me an item that contains cream... I order the horchata and it was so sweet I couldn't even finish half nasty... The best is the free chips and salsa and that's because it helps you to pass down the main course

this place is where origins pan asian used to be... located about a block SW of Sunset Place and a stone throw away from BT's... The parking is tricky but you can certainly find parking and pay the meter instead of the valet service... The place is small but there is outside seating available... The food is not bad but nothing that made me say "wow!" and I'm not entirely sure if it's authentic mexican, but then again who am I to judge... hehe... We had queso fundido con chorizo and carne asada soft tacos... the meat was well seasoned but it was tough so not sure of the quality or perhaps it may have been overcooked... The chips were oily and salsa was weak... My better half had a margarita which was most likely made w bottom shelf liquor... had to go to CVS to get some Advil after! The service was bad... The server seemed to be perturbed about everything and had no patience whatsoever or perhaps was having a bad day since it was a Sunday afternoon... nevertheless, it shouldn't have been my problem... To make things worse, an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill... Oh, by the way, one margarita will set you back $10 so take it easy on the happy juice... cheers!

Third times a charm they say. It took 3 tries to finally get to get my hungry little hands on some much anticipated Mexzican at this place. We tried to go twice before we got lucky and both times they were closed. They're lucky I'm a fan of their truck and gave them so many chances. We sat outside which was nice since it was kinda cool out. Another to plus to sitting outside was watching BT's employees pulling up to work with suitcases assumigly filled with wigs and heels (hopefully Lysol wipes for the poles, too) and sketchy patrons walking in and out - but let's not go there. Back to the food - we ordered the guacamole which was really good. The chips were awesome. Also had flautas which were greasy for my taste and didn't really ring my taco bell. We also had their famous Legacy/Legendary tacos which were a little dry in comparison to the ones I've had on the truck, so that was kind of a disappontment. We also had the beer battered shrimp and fish tacos - holy guacamole these things are amazing. They are smothered in a incredibly delicious, sweet and spicy pink sauce that made my fat little heart sing. To top everything off, guava flan. Sinfully good. The place is super cute, the service was on point, and overall the dining experience was a positive one.

Rarely have I been misled by yelp, sadly, this was one such occasion. I ordered a molcajete ... the only tasty part was the chorizo, the dish had pepper in it but none of the complexity of flavor that makes up good, or even decent Mexican food. The flan de guayava was so sweet I could not eat more than a small spoonful. As this was a take-out, in the end I pulled out the chorizo to use with some eggs and had to dump the rest. Very very disappointed.

I really don't know what to think I go to brunch and you don't have mimosas!! Cause you ran out of champagne you don't have margaritas either, let me wait till I order my breakfast.... We ordered huevos rancheros the menu said it comes with potatoes well we received our plates without potatoes we asked the waiter where are the potatoes ohh we don't have potatoes well why didn't you say it from the beginning so I'm paying $10.00 for 2 fried eggs with tortilla are you serious we order French toast with fruit guess what they didn't have fruits either... The worst brunch never again. I won't waist my gas to drive here next time I should listen to my husband.

I wish I could eat here everyday, not only for the food but the service. So personable and attentive! The chef stopped by and dropped off some of the dishes to check in on us at the table too. Got the carne asada, camarones, and chicken tacos-delish! The fresh guacamole was served with flour tortillas instead of chips, and chips served with 3 diffferent types of salsa (verde, chili, and a cilantro/aoili style). Definitely going back for seconds.

Went there because a friend had a coupon/online deal and decided to try it. What a disappointment! It's a mexican restaurant but they had NO AVOCADOS! (mind you, it's avocado season...send an employee to WinnDixie down the street if you have to!) So there was no sliced avocado garnish for the salad or fish tacos and there was no guacamole. Normally I would have left at this point but I was with two other friends and on a time crunch. The fish tacos were only available fried and came with a heavy cream sauce that gave the plate a monotonous flavor. The food overall was average, nothing to rave about and the only reason I would give it 2 stars, not 1 is because the waitress was doing her best to accommodate us. But I would much rather go to Taco Rico in the Gables, Guadalajara by the Falls or even Lime or Moe's for that matter!!

Hubby, son (toddler) & I went for Sunday brunch with the groupon. The tortilla chips- yummy. Hubby had huevos rancheros they were good but some parts of the egg were little under cooked. I had the tacos de huevo... Not impressed lacked flavor! My son had French toast AMAZING!! They were really tasty I had several bites but my son ate it all . Service was very attentive. Personally a little pricey, will consider coming back with groupon only

My wife and I like to eat out and try new places. We happened to notice MexZican while driving around South Miami and thought we would give it a try.what amazing food! Don't let the small size fool you. The quality of the carnitas (pulled pork) reminded me of home cooking, and the fresh made guacamole was excellent. We have found a new go to Mexican restaurant.

Food was good, Service was HORRIBLE. The food was the only redeeming quality for this restaurant. I had the tacos (legandaria A+ and carne asada), the rest of my party has the quesadillas (steak and chicken), all was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was so bad I will not be returning. First, once seated we had to ask for our drinks and complimentary chips, a few times before it was recognized by the servers. The waiter continuously reached over our food to fill our glasses, pass the salt, or serve a plate - just bad manners. The dishes were brought out at different times and I had to request by side dish twice before it was brought to the table. The final straw was the fact that we had to wait 45 minutes to pay. The credit card system (ie Square) was down and since we didn't have cash they had no other option for us to pay. We sat for 20 minutes before we got any answers for the delay, 3 of the 4 of us had to go up to management, and the only option they had for us was that we could leave our name and credit card information with them, so they could charge us later. Umm, no ever heard of credit card theft. After 45 minutes, the manager finally appeared and when the system still didn't work, suggested that he hold on to our check and we could, take more time out of our day, to come back later and pay. When we declined the suggestion, and upon our leaving, the manager went to his serving staff, scoffed at us and loudly stated "they say they are never coming back." We weren't offered an apology, compensation, discount, and then were given a rude send off.

I recently enjoyed a visit to the MexZican Gourmet. I had been looking for a fun place to have a dinner with friends and thought I'd check this place out. As soon as I arrived, our table was set up for 8. The staff was very friendly and made sure to come by as each person arrived to get their drink orders. We all ordered a variety of dishes, and I had the tacos with carne asada and chicken. I very much prefer the tacos with the carne asada. They were seasoned to perfection! We also tried the flan, regular and guava. Both were delicious. I also liked that there was a parking lot in the back, so I didn't have to search all over South Miami for a meter or garage. The one thing I didn't like, they couldn't split the bill! We all had to figure out how much each person owed and how we would pay.. ugh! Don't have too many margaritas before you get your check! Still, I would definitely visit again.

Food quality and taste was good - comparing against similar, authentic restaurants in California where the real deal is. While the food was good, several issues with the service and poor attention to quality: 1. If you list different components on a menu, why would someone tell you 'that's an old menu and we no longer serve potatoes with it', especially when the menu is a printed 8.5 x 11 page. 2. If you're serving breakfast/brunch, why would you not have your coffee machine operational. 'Someone forgot to turn on the coffee machine and it would take too long to get it going'. 3. Mexican pop music - if you're going to play music like this for brunch, at least keep it at a lower level so it doesn't detract from the experience. The music is bad enough as it is, much less at an annoying volume. I think this place has potential - I realize Miami has a bad rap for crappy service, but I'm sure the owner of this place would not find any of these oversights acceptable, especially if it means the difference between someone eating there once vs. being a repeat customer who will rave about the place.

I truly looooove this place! Authentic Mexican with amazing taste! The ceviche is extraordinary and every entree I have had has been amazing without a doubt. The service has always been responsive and friendly. Also try their margaritas which are great! This is not text mex this is authentic Mexican food with real home made taste. I love their green salsa as well with their chips. I really recommend this restaurant if you are in the mood for some good Mexican food.

We went to MexZican for the second time today. While there's a lot to like about the little trendy restaurant, it definitely has it's flaws. The decor is really cute (for lack of a better word) with the lime green trimmings, Mexican movie posters, and nice serene outdoor dining area. That's definitely a nice surprise considering it's right off Satan's Highway (US-1). The entrees are top notch. We've had the chiles rellenos, fish and shrimp tacos, and the sampler platter and we've throughly enjoyed everything. The chiles rellenos is simple but flavorful and the fish and shrimp tacos are lightly battered, almost like tempura. We were definitely pleased but are they worth the hefty price tag? Almost but not quite. Four beers, one appetizer, and two entrees cost $64 WITH A COUPON (including 18-20% gratuity). And that's their "lunch menu." Definitely not a cheap Mexican lunch, especially if you don't order the right things. The queso is approximately $10 and should be skipped. It's greasy, thick, and congealed. You can pick up the entire dish with a fork. Definitely not appetizing. The guacamole we had on our first trip was fresh and tasty, but not amazing and definitely not worth $10-11. The service was friendly but slow both times, despite how empty the restaurant was during our last trip. We noticed that the coupon we bought on Yelp wasn't reflected on the bill, so the owner just told us to subtract the value of the coupon from the final amount ourselves. Odd... We'll definitely go again but not any time soon.

There are certain locations that have always been doomed for restaurants and this is one of them. I've lived here a long time and cannot think of a restaurant that was successful at this location. I doubt that this "gourmet" establishment will be any exception. First, this is more of a fast-food joint than a restaurant. The decor is clean, but sparse and the menu is very limited. We were served overcooked chips and a green salsa to start. When I tasted the salsa, it seemed nothing more than cilantro blended with water. I then asked the waiter (who forgot to bring us utencils and napkins so I had to grab them from another table) for hot sauce. When he returned to the kitchen, he told me they didn't have any hot sauce. Then we tried to order their sampler platter. We were told that they didn't have the sampler platter. We then tried to order guacamole. Despite that they had around 30 avocados displayed on their counter for all to see, we were told that they didn't have guacamole because the avocados were not ripe. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? If you don't have guacamole, then your unripe avocados should be sitting in paper bags behind the counter. This is a business guys - if you're going to be in the Mexican food business you better have Mexican food. We did order some queso fundido, but after being so frustrated we left right after. I don't know who is writing the glowing reviews below but I would advise you to not even bother with this establishment

Before reading this review, please read the title under my name: "I hate 99% of "Mexican food" made in Miami." Now, to my review: MexZican, shut up and take my money. Take it take it gogogo it is yours forever. MexZican is the 1%. If I worked/lived any closer I'd eat lunch and/or dinner there every day. Goodbye, paychecks, it was nice knowing you. Hello, menu! Chile relleno? Delicious. Enchiladas? Delicious. Chilaquiles? Delicious. Sopa de tortilla? Delicious. Tacos? Delicious. Chef puts his own little spin on a number of traditional Mexican dishes (these chiles rellenos are going to confuse you at first until you try them, and then you will come back here and flip your lid like I did), and they are absolutely delicious. You could set up a dartboard with all the different items on the menu and I wouldn't really care what it was I hit. It'll be delicious. I'm not even joking -- I've pretty much tried everything on the menu at least once and I can't think of anything I disliked. Of course, your specific tastes may vary (and there are a lot of different flavors in Mexican food), but just go in knowing that whatever they will serve you will be top quality, authentic, and delicious. I once got into something akin to a flame war with a bunch of people here on Yelp who were trying to tell me that whatever silly Mexican restaurant they ate at that was here in Miami was actually good (listen, I've been to Homestead -- YAWN). This place is better than all of those places. And he makes his own tortillas and horchata. No bagged tortillas. None. BUT I'M NOT OBSESSED OR ANYTHING, NOOOOooooo

Great guacamole! A bit pricey, but everything is really fresh. Hard to find, but worth it. Ceviche is huge & very tasty!

I admit that I'm very picky about what makes a great Mexican restaurant. This place onlyy has a few of those qualities. First of all the food is fresh and well presented, sort of like a French dish. That's the extent of my positve review. The flavors are not there. I don't know what they're mssing, but it just does not have that unmistakable flavor of good, humble Mexican food. Lastly, and this is an affliction for many of our Miami area restaurants. They charge too much for small portions of food. I was literally done eating within five minutes. I had the chicken enchiladas. The plate came with four small folded tortillas modestly stuffed with shredded chicken. It was smartly drizzled with sour cream, white Mexican cheese and a green tomatillo sauce. It was bland. My wife's dish was three tacos, but hers came with beans and rice. I asked if I could also have "refried" beans and rice. They serve you two bowls, one half filled with rice and one half-filled with pureed black beans. It was like they took my wife's portion and split in two for us, giving her half and me half. Not only that, I got charged three bucks for these meager portions. The three bucks was on top of the fifteen dollars that each of our dishes costed. My wife, who is a really good cook was bewildered as to why they would bother to charge for the rice and beans, as it clearly didn't cost them any more to produce...it was just spooned out of the pot into our bowls. If I don't eat some of it, it goes to waste! If you're going to try this place, don't let me stop you. You will likely have to park on the street somewhere in downtown South Miami. Enter the back, not the visible US1 entrance. There is a small interior dining area and a nice courtyard type dining area outdide in the back. Enjoy yourself!

We had an obnoxiously large party and the service was still very friendly and fast! My chile relllenos was excellent as was my tortilla soup.

Went on a Friday night for dinner, based mostly on the reviews from Yelp and the fact that we love Mexican. I really wanted to love this place because of its great location. Unfortunately, while the food was good, the service was very slow. Our waitress was pleasant and tried to apologize. I'm assuming the kitchen was short staffed, or that they are still getting their act together. The restaurant was busy, but not extremely so. The complimentary chips and salsa were excellent, especially the chips which are made in house. We had the queso fundidio with chorizo, which was great except for the portion size. As our main course, we had the chiles rellenos which were excellent and the carnitas tacos which were also very good. Hopefully the next time we decide to give this place a try, the service will have improved.

Love their tacos! Love the way they season their chicken. Place doesn't get as much business as it should be getting in my opinion, but I guess the neighboring business is what spooks away part of the clientele I guess (It's next to a strip club). Don't be fooled though, this restaurant is excellent, and their brunch is great.

The "margaritas" are not actually margaritas but rather a fruity wine concoction. Pretty weak. But the cappuccino flan is to die for.

Went here tonight after seeing it several times and finally decided to stop in. Sat outside and liked the outdoor seating option a lot as it was a nice night out. I've had their food truck before and always liked it, but something about the restaurant is just off for me. There are constant misspellings on the menu which is always a pet peeve, although I admit I am weird about that. Now, on to the food. We started with the Guacamole, which was simply okay. It lacked flavor and for $10 an order, I don't think I'd be ordering it again. I had to add a lot of salt to the Guacamole just to get some flavor into it. Next, I ordered 2 Legendaria tacos and 1 Carne Asada taco. The price was $12 for 3 tacos, which I feel is a little overpriced since the tacos are pretty small. To be fair, however, they do give you a pretty good portion of meat on the taco so it's not too bad. Again, the tacos were plagued by the same thing as the Guacamole: no flavor. The beans and rice that they give you with the tacos were largely flavorless as well. So, to sum up, I think the food is simply okay, but it just lacks flavor. Hopefully this will be rectified in the future. Until then, I think I'd rather go and try somewhere else.

No real wow factor. The food was pretty much stantard. Not sure what the hype is with this place.

I've been a fan since their food truck hit the scene and I frequent this restaurant about once a month with my wife. Food is always on point. I trust their quality so much, I had my wedding rehearsal lunch and we had a great time! 20+ guests, pre-fixe menu, Owner/chef called me to discuss menu. I had the ceviche appetizer but most got the guacamole which I regularly get when I go. My wife got the queso fundido which I tried, it was rich and stringy - delicious! I had the shrimp tacos which have a nice creamy sauce with a nice spicy kick to them. The flan to finish off the lunch was silky smooth. Most Mexican restaurants work on volume and proteins don't have much flavor. It's nice to see proper portions and more of a focus on the flavor. The staff was attentive for such a large group in my opinion. Sometimes their staff pushes to try and turn over tables when the place isn't full which is a bit puzzling, but the taste and quality of the food will keep me coming back for a long time!

I love this place! Although the menu is meat heavy, they easily came up with an excellent vegetarian meal. Our waitress was almost too attentive. The prices were very reasonable. I will be back!

Love coming here for a tasty and filling lunch with the SO and baby. Always get great service from the friendly staff. Must try their special dish, Molcajete. Definitely worth the $. Love their food truck and am happy that they were able to open up this location so close to home.

If you've lived in miami long, you know how hard it is to find a decent Mexican restaurant. Usually it's overly Americanized and not authentic. Surprisingly enough this small restaurant near sunset place has more than enough authenticity to suit your Mexican cravings. The sauces taste great and the ceviche is outstanding. The highlight I the meal was definitely the flan. Probably the best flan I have ever had!! The service is great too which is a huge plus.

Words can not even begin to describe how dissappointed/disgusted I am with this establishment. The only reason I am even leaving one star is because Yelp requires you to; I honestly believe that this establishment does not even deserve that. I visited this restaurant this past Saturday as a member of a baby shower party. Upon arrival, I sat down at the table (which already had several members seated) after pleasentries were exchanged and time passed and passed, yet not once did the waitress come to the table to introduce herself. I had to request a drink menu and wait another half an hour before she would return to take my drink order. Not once was water offered or poured and the chips and salsa were already empty upon my arrival and they were not refilled. Eventually, my drink (an horchata) arrived in addition to the rest of our party. We all tried to flag down the waitress repeatedly so that we could place our order. This ordeal took well over half an hour. An impressive feet to say the least considering the miniscule size of the restaurant. Once our orders were placed, and during our hour plus waith 4 seperate members of our group requested water and additional chips. I specifically attempted to get water and more tortilla chips once our appetizers arrived, yet the RUDE waitress walked away while I was in the middle of my request stating "yes yes"....20 minutes later there was STILL NO WATER nor chips anywhere! Considering the fact that they tried to appease us all by offering us free guacamole for our table, yet again NO WATER or chips! What is the point of guacamole if there are no chips, or anything to wash it down with? It was at this point that I took it upon myself to get up from my table and ask another waiter for water and chips. He then came with enough water to fill one glass (not even mine) and proceeded to walk away when I stopped him and pointed out that no one at the table had anything to drink. He also brought only one small tray of chips for me, there was a table of 12 people. At one point someone at our table spilled a glass of water on the table which also fell on the floor. This was brought to the attention of our waitress 3 times in which she kept saying "ok ok", it took another member of our party to go behind the counter and request a towel in which she proceeded to clean up the mess herself since no one else seemed to care. Our food arrived almost two hours later. Once we all got our entrees (spaced out far in between, the food was subpar at best. The chili rellenos (which I ordered) tasted as nothing more than cuban shredded beef stew inside of chilis. I was not impressed. Another member of our group had ordered shrimp tacos. Once they arrived, they seemed to have been in an unsusual type of sauce, something that was not mentioned in the description on the menu. When she asked the waitress if the sauce contained mayonaise, since she is deathly allergic, the waitress could not answer and disappeared for another ten minutes. Upon her arrival she stated that it did and "what now". My friend proceeded to tell her that she could not eat mayonaise all the while the waitress gave her a blank stare and said, "Well what do you want to do?" The dish was sent back with no substitution. To add insult to injury, the food all comes with the accompanyment of rice and beans, yet they require you to actually ask for it as to not "waste food" (as per our waitress). I figured that if I was paying for it, I wanted it (as did everyone else at the table). I repeatedly ask two more times in which the rice and beans never showed. Towards the end of my meal, the waitress had the audacity to come up to me and say, "Oh you never got your rice and beans, You don't still want it do you?" I made them bring it. But, nothing is worse than what occured at the end once the bill came. I can honestly say I have never been so insulted or angry as I was this past Saturday. We all had split checks, and I had dined alone. I, in no way had the most expensive item at the table nor had ordered the most food etc. Yet, I was THE ONLY PERSON WHO WAS CHARGED AUTOGRATUITY. At first I had not noticed since I do understand that it is customary in many restaurants in Southern Florida, yet, when I mentioned this fact EVERYONE at the table looked at me confused and stated that none of them were charged this. I immidiately called the waitress over and demanded to know the reason why I was the only one that was charged. At no point did she offer a valid explanation other than "I don't know how this happened" and "technically I'm supposed to charge everyone at the table". My answer is that I am aware, but the problem is the fact that everyone else was NOT charged yet I was. I demanded to speak to the manager in which she refused to bring him over as she attempted to try and convince me to sign my receipt. I did not and eventually she gave me the difference from her tip money. I will NEVER be returning, and suggest STAY AWAY!

good food and they get one star because of the service. i left angry. i shouldn't have to pay to be angry, i get that at home with my girlfriend. 1: got my taco order wrong and then overcharged me at the dinner rate 2: charged me for refills on my unsweetened nasty ice tea after i had to go and find him for a refill without being notified 3. had to get up twice to find him, once for napkins 4. had the wrong bill shown to me at the end 5. long waiting when it was virtually empty

My daughter and I went here for lunch after hearing great reviews. The food was good, but not what we were expecting. They offered us guacamole when they brought out the chips- It turned out that it cost $10! But it was tasty- too many onions for me, but if you like that, good! Although not to my taste, I can see the attraction

The food is very good, whoever the service is terrible and not because of the server. i knew right away that the chef must be the owner, along side of his wife. I know for a fact a friends daughter went to work there. There was no training manual, the two people training her were wait staff that had been there 2 days, no one knew about what kind of wine they had, and the computer system was only in Spanish. She was asking questions to the wife and she began yelling at her in Spanish in front of customers so she walked out, after being there only 3 hours. Very sad because the food is good. I will never go back.

Here for a quick lunch, pleasantly surprised no wait and seated promptly . The establishment itself is small, cozy and the decor is very cute. The carnita tacos were soo good and I loved the tomatillo sauce that came with the chips! The waiter Was attentive . The menu items were a bit pricey but very tasty. Probably will come back in another occasion

I totally agree with Gregory N's review. I've lived in Mexico and I know and love good Mexican food. As he says, the food is fresh, the service is nice, but that's about it. Guacamole, expensive and tasteless. Tacos, again, tasteless. Tomatillo practically tasteless, no heat at all; when I asked for a hotter sauce, I was actually served a sauce that had been heated... as in the microwave, but there was no chile heat whatsoever!! The totopos are are not corn, but flour... again, with the heatless tomatillo sauce. Don't waste your money and your time... you'll do better at Lime!!!

We stumbled upon this restaurant while walking through South Miami. Don't let the US 1 address fool you, the main entrance to the restaurant is really in the back, off 59th Ave, with a quiet outdoor space. This is not typical Tex Mex. Don't go expecting Chi-Chi's food. This is real Mexican food as good and as flavorful as anything I have eaten in Mexico and the margaritas alone are worth the trip.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
