I've been going there for over 20 years and it is STILL one of my favorite places. LOVE the chicken salad in a pita with green vinaigrette, cheese and tomato spinach pie, fresh apple juice and vegan carrot cake!

I can't believe I haven't been in this place before. It is great for lunch! Place is casual and unpretentious compared to the main Coconut Grove area and prices are affordable also unlikely for the area. However, I am a fan of Coconut Grove. The young ladies behind the counter were polite and friendly. They really tried to keep up with the amount of orders they got this afternoon. Also, I noticed they greeted several customers by their names which is a great quality for customer service. My lunch was simple but delicious. Who knew that healthy food can taste good. The juices are made to order and prices won't brake your bank, all under 4$. My mixed Veggie juice was terrific and all natural. The whole wheat pita sandwich with white chicken salad was around 7$ and it was fresh. I paid cash but I noticed they have an ATM inside the restaurant so that can be convenient if you forget it is cash only. They also have some free parking spaces but they share them with the market and a subway. Ironically, this place is located by a subway but there is no comparison. The Last Carrot is simple, delicious, affordable, and casual. If you are in Coconut Grove and feel like having a quick and healthy lunch this is the place.

I was finally in the area and had time on my hands to grab lunch here. This place is really hidden, there's no sign with their name above the store so its in the shopping lot where Kwik stop and Subway is. I thought the place was pretty dirty and old looking so that threw me off. Also that nobody really acknowledged me when I walked in? I understand it was just 3 of them making food and juices for their customers but one could turn their head to acknowledge customers. After 5 min of sitting and waiting one of them asked if I had been helped or not, she took my order and it was ready pretty quickly. I took it to go because there was a lot of people and also like I said, it looked dirty. Now whats important here is the food which is VERY good. I got a Tuna pita and it was a huge pita with great portions on everything. Their green and red sauces are delicious but lord knows whats in them, she asked me which color I wanted and I just said both. Felt like they just assumed everyone knows what it is but I also could have just asked. Overall I was kinda disappointed with the visit but I'll come back at some point because I really enjoyed the pita.

This place was just fine for lunch in the Grove. Wanting something on the lighter side, a friend and I swung by The Last Carrot. It wasn't too crowded so we easily found parking in the small lot in front and grabbed seats at the counter. When it came to actually ordering, it took a long time for us to be acknowledged and once they asked us what we'd like, they took my order but didn't bother to ask my friend. Just a little awkward. From there, the food came somewhat fast but mine way before hers. It was both of our first time so when asked if we wanted sauce, I asked what kind of sauce and just got thrown a couple of cartons. Yes, it was really good, but what is it?! I understand the place is busy but there's still a certain level of customer service needed to have an overall pleasant experience. I ordered the hummus pita. It was packed with veggies and with the sauce, pretty tasty (albeit messy by the end). I also sipped on a carrot and ginger juice which was good. All in all, it came out to about $12. Not too bad when compared to other healthy spots. We left full and I felt good about what I had ate, but when all is said and done, the whole experience left me feeling kind of meh.

Went here recently for lunch and had the Hummus Pita and it was very good. Lots of fresh veggies, hummus was fresh and delicious and their sauce served on the side was exceptional. Also had the banana and honey smoothie and it was excellent, they make all of their smoothies and juice right behind the counter! Luckily I went with someone who knew this place does not take credit cards or checks. The atmosphere is very informal, you sit at the counter and order and eat, just like a diner. As with everyplace in the Miami area parking can be a challenge as the lot is very small.

I live in weeeeest kendall (yes, as far west as you can go), meaning, it was definitely a trip for me to get out to this place. I've recently changed my diet, so been checking out vegetarian/vegan places and of course, made the attempt to visit the last carrot. After making the 45+ minute commute, I finally arrive. Parking was a pain (week day, but spring break, not sure if that made the difference). Got my toddler out of the car, walked over. Upon arriving, there were two people being attended to, not one employee looked up to greet. Waited about 10 minutes, nothing. Toddler was hungry and so was I. I soon realize that they take no cc, which was all I had - no cash on me. I mean, it's 2015, what business doesn't take cc? even the 90 year old guy in my block who sells aguacates takes cc, cmon! Needless to say, I had to now drive away and find another restaurant, all while toddler screaming in the back seat, and me being in awful mood from hunger (getting there took 45 mins, getting down and waiting another 15, finding anther place and commuting there, another 20 (traffic jam hour). Bad experience.

weather you are looking for a refreshing totally organic sandwich or a tasty whole grain pita filled with yummy tuna, freshly organic greens and delicious melted cheese you will not be disappointed here. This place has been here for dozens of years and u can tell its family owned. Most of the veggies are from the backyard and the fresh juices are prepared right in front of you. If you are in a rush just call ahead (like I do) and they will be glad to have your meal ready for you there or to take away!! Since i come from north miami, on my days off i come for a ride to the coconut grove dog park. The only negative side is that they are surprisingly strict with dog rules. Dogs are not welcome, even if you have a service animal tag, they still will be skeptical and unhappy. I agree with no dogs inside but It would be nice to have at least one table outside.....:(

Awesome vegan place!! If you want a quick juice or healthy snack this is the place to go. I got the special of the day the falafel pita which was amazing and the orange and carrot juice. It was quick easy and decliious. The only thing I didnt like is that they only take credit cards!

Love the green sauce and felafel pitta is OK. Shame about the server: Such an attitude!

I cannot praise this restaurant enough If I had to select one food to consume for the rest of my days this would be it! Been around since 1975, been going there since grade school, everything on the menu is to die for (even if you're not on a healthy kick/lifestyle). They get their Pitas/spinach pies from The Daily Bread (another to die for place).what little cons I mentioned on the tip section for Yelp the pros out weigh them. The owner Erin is very sweet and knows this business/food like the back of her hand (a pleasure to deal with). Try everything on the menu then try it again! Always always always get a piece of their cake you won't believe it! You won't! I purchased several for special occasions even my wedding cake (trust me!) try it! My fav is the spinach pie melt whether with chicken or tuna or tofu or veggie burger with a lite spread of hummus (all fresh and toasted) the best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't forget to wash it down with an all fruit smoothie ;)~ or two ;)~ yum man!

I want to give five stars for having an awesome healthy menu that was delicious.. But their service knocked a few stars off. Walk in and seat yourself.. Don't expect to be warmly greeted. Someone will come and throw down some paper place settings and ask if you're ready to order. Do expect to remind the people behind the counter for condiments or anything else you asked for. It seemed as though they treated regulars better however.. "The usual? How's the kids!" Type deal. I wouldn't ever go out of my way to come back here. But if I happened to be in the area again and was starving, I'd pick this place over fast food. Oh and bring cash. Or else you'll have to use their ATM to pay.

Place is easy to miss if you are not looking for it. Came in and grabbed a spinach pie which was to DIE FOR. Whatever sauce came with it was a game changer-so good! Everything on the menu sounded fresh and delicious, will definitely be back for more!

It's alright. My wife likes it. I can take it or leave it. Food is good but the staff could learn some manners. Seems they couldn't care less if we are there or not. CASH ONLY. Good luck getting a parking space.

The food is pretty good, and affordable for the area. The restaurant is rather small and not super nice though.. Staff made me a little uncomfortable on this latest stop. My order was a little wrong, so the server threw out the original order to start over after I said it wasn't a problem. Made me feel like a jerk, and sorry to waste the food :/

One of my favorite places in the grove! This place is simply amazing! Fresh food, fresh veggies, fresh juices! Almost Everyone is super nice, even though they are not customer service experts (the service is really crapy sometimes) I would only recommend u start letting us pay with card but that's about it! I'm in love with the green dressing and all the desserts!!!

I have mixed feelings about the Last Carrot. The place was packed for Saturday lunch and felt a little unorganized. Everyone just sort of walks up to the counter in random places (there is no line) and waits until someone takes their order. It took several minutes until I was acknowledged by an employee. Eye contact would have been nice, not to mention a simple "I'll be right with you". Doesn't take much effort but goes a long way. I saw a few things that concerned me. All the produce is cut on the same cutting board, whether it is onions or fruit. There were banana peels everywhere. I saw unwashed raw vegetables going straight into the juicer. Ever immersed curly kale into a bowl of water and saw all the stuff that comes out? Little bugs, dirt etc? Bon appetit. My bean sprouts were also unwashed. Although they can harbor bacteria and parasites if unwashed, I hoped for the best and didn't let it spoil my appetite. Danger is my middle name. If none of those things bother you (after all, a little friendly bacteria never killed anyone) then I am happy to report that our food tasted yummy. The creamy avocado dressing that comes on the side is awesome, and so was the baked tofu. Tastes like liquid aminos, a flavor I love. Along with the tofu, I opted for avocado and peanut butter in my veggie pita wrap, which may sound weird but was actually really good. The whole wheat pita is nice and thin, just enough to hold it together. The veggies are pretty much just raw carrots, lettuce and bean sprouts. Very messy to eat, I think I used an entire mountain of napkins. The spinach "pies" aren't really pies, like you would expect from a Greek restaurant. It's the same paper thin whole wheat pita stuffed with spinach and sandwiched with different optional toppings. The pies aren't that big but for $3.75 they don't break the bank so you can always get two. The only desserts they had were vegan cookies and popsicles. I was hoping for at least some guilt free cake. The dark chocolate espresso cookie we chose was kind of hard but not too sweet. Appreciate the effort.

I love this place. I've been going here since the summer of 1984 when I first tried the incredible spinach tomato pie. It's unlike anything anywhere else! It's so fresh that sometimes you watch them making your tuna salad after you order! Yeah. And all whose fresh juices.... I love the house drink, the 'Grasshopper' pineapple and wheatgrass. So fresh and satisfying. I went here a multitude of times before I moved away. It's such a Coconut Grove institution and with the way nothing ever stays the same, I fear I'll never eat their delicious food again.

Holy Green Sauce! I don't know what they put in this sauce but it's amazing and I wish they would bottle it up and sell it. If I have to pick a favorite pita it would be the tuna - it goes so well with the green sauce :) Everything here is fresh fresh fresh! The amazing smell of fruit hits you on the way in and then entices you to order one of the smoothies which are just the bomb! They put a smile of your face for sure. Happy to say that I can grab lunch under the $10 mark which isn't that easy to do anymore so I appreciate that this place hasn't gone nutty and jacked up the prices like other sandwich shops in the area. There is one thing that I am not the biggest fan of - cash only :( wahhh but if that is the worst thing then I am thinking that they are doing something great.

Food was great. Gotta love their healthy choices. I used to stop here on my daily jogs and grab a banana smoothie as a treat. The smoothies are delicious! The service made me stop coming. I've never been smiled at. The regulars seemed to get attention. Not sure how to become one of them... especially since I came daily and ordered the same thing. It's cash-only and it's not easy stuffing cash in tiny pockets when walking there. It no longer seemed worth the effort. You can't really tell when they are open or not either. Too bad because it's so close to home and healthy.

I love this place! I've been coming here for years!! My favorite thing is the chicken spinach pie with the green sauce. Everyone is so kind & helpful. Erin the owner makes you feel so at ease. I love this place so much! That for 2 years in a row I've gotten my birthday cake from them. It's a vegan chocolate cake!! Taste like heaven. All the people I've introduced to this cake can't believe it's vegan. They have some of the yummiest desserts!! I noticed no one ever writes about that. But they are just so DELICIOUS! I have a huge sweet tooth so that's a plus. I love their grass hopper as well. Trust me it's a must visit! Take cash & enjoy! (:

One of the best vegan spots in Miami with a nice range of Juices, Smoothies, Spinach Pies, Salads, and Sandwiches... All the juices are refreshing - my personal favorite is the Orange-Papaya... Though the smoothie selection isn't as big, they incorporate their seasonal fruits... They have tasty sandwiches, salads, and quiches that come with their original sauces which are a must on any dish. My favorite dish is the Tuna Melt, it's name is fitting since the sandwich literally melts in your mouth! The only critique is that they don't accept credit cards and they close pretty early- definitely a place for lunch rather than dinner.

I really like the Last Carrot's menu. They offer health food that is actually delicious and filling. Although a simple dish, the Baked Tofu Salad is very flavorful, vegan and pretty filling -- specifically, the baked tofu and the salad dressings are what make the salad so flavorful (ask for both dressings so you can decide which one you like better; I like them both). I make a meal out of a salad and a spinach pie. I love the spinach pies! The cheese is deliciously melty and I like how it's not a typical spinach pie because they use a healthy whole wheat pita instead of a fatty flaky crust. Aside from the food, the service is a little spotty. I've been here and have been completely ignored or unacknowledged for at least 5-10 minutes before someone said hello and took my order. Other times I've waited less than 5 minutes and the staff seemed pretty pleasant. I guess you'll never know what the service will be like here but at least they make up for it with delicious food! I'll definitely keep coming back here for the reason that the way I feel after a meal is energized, healthy and satisfied. I'd rather go here for lunch than Chipotle and feel completely stuffed and gross after.

The place was a bit difficult to find but I really enjoyed it. The service is prompt and friendly and the juices healthy and delicious.

This place is legit and they have a great niche in the grove. Best place around for fresh veggie-based sandwiches and juices. Decent prices for the portions you get. They make some big ass pitas. I got the hummus pita w/ orange/carrot juice. Absolutely delicious. Whatever that green dressing is, it's amazing. Cool atmosphere in there too. Some legit hippies running the place. Cash only. All good things.

hard to find. but in that area, it's a good place to get a non-polluted (i.e. no mumbo-jumbo) drink, like a acai banana blueberry smoothie, where that's exactly what is in it! they also have regular food.

  • Manny F.

Me and my wife love this place! It's a little hole in the wall in the grove, with very friendly service and great food. We usually always get the chicken pita with all the veggies plus avocado & either a smoothie or fresh juice. The best part is getting dessert, they usually have some kind of vegan, organic, gluten-free delicious cake!!!!

The Last Carrot is a Coconut Grove staple, cherished by Groveites and non-Groveites alike. I've been coming here for over 25 years, and, though I moved away, I always make it a point to come here to get lunch at least once during my visits back home. Everything is fresh and tasty. My favorites are the cream cheese and cucumber pita and the chicken or tuna salad melt served in the spinach pie (not the Greek style ones, more like a triangular shaped pita filled with spinach). They use the spinach pies that are baked fresh at The Daily Bread (soooo good). I always get the green sauce to have with my sandwiches. I don't know how they make that stuff, but I could put that on anything and everything I eat! Additionally, they were making fresh, healthy juices way before juicing was cool, and their grasshopper (pineapple with wheatgrass) is delicious. Their vegan desserts are also very good; I, personally, am a big fan of their brownies. The place is family owned and service is always quick and good.

As I've said before, the food is delicious, the smoothies are delicious, the freshly prepared juices are delicious, service was spot-on as it is pretty much always, i can't say enough good things about this locals' favorite! I absolutely love it when great places like this do well, friendly casual healthy dining, what else need I say... The only regret I have is that I don't eat here often enough. If you've never been or just haven't been in some time let me suggest you try it again or for the first time, love this place! Peace

I live a few blocks from here and The Last Carrot consistently comes through when I need a quick healthy lunch. For being under $10, it's probably the best value in the Grove. You get a lot of delicious and nutritious food in each sandwich/pie. The green dressing is amazing. Cash only and early closing times are the only setbacks. Otherwise, Last Carrot is a super solid lunch spot.

I like this place for the fresh juices and natural food and have been coming here for years. However, the staff can be rude (especially a girl with dark brown hair in a bun - seriously if your business is serving customers you should be at minimum polite. You know who you are!)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for your local hole in the wall, but this place did not get it right for us. And I'm no picky Yelper! The menu looks enticing and mouthwatering, but the execution is completely off. Their idea of a salad is iceberg lettuce, packaged shredded carrots, tomatoes, and some house dressing served on a Styrofoam plate. This will definitely not fly with a vegan, vegetarian, or anyone else in the know. Also the veggie burger was bought from the Publix freezer isle, but it did taste acceptable lol. Had I known this, I would have just made it at home. One last thing, we tried ordering 2 different options from the menu, but they didn't have either in stock. The best way to put The Last Carrot, is that it's a juice bar attempting to become the next Choices Cafe, KC Healthy Cooking, or iConnect. And it's just not happening. To make matters worse, they do not accept credit cards! Doomed from the beginning lol. They tried to get me to use their ATM inside the restaurant, but thats a huuuuuuge heck no. I walked to the nearest CVS and bought a 24 pack of water with some cash back! Call me old fashioned... Sorry The Last Carrot, I really wanted to luv you.

The food was fresh but the environment was way too chaotic for me. I went for lunch on a weekday. The parking lot was full so I ended up paying for parking across the street. It was packed on the inside. Everyone was crowded around the lunch counter and tried to get their order in- kind of like trying to get a drink at a bar on a Friday night. I ordered the tuna sandwich which was fresh and delicious. I especially liked the green sauce. The only problem with the pita was that it couldn't hold all the contents of the sandwich. It kept breaking and my food would spill out. I ended up eating the rest of my sandwich with a fork since it had turned into a salad at that point. I wanted to try their fresh-squeezed juice, but didn't want to face the chaos of the lunch counter again. Overall the food was good, but the disorganization and the lack of parking made it not worth it for me. If you are looking for something comparable, try Govinda's Garden downtown.

I was happy to find place with freshly squeezed juices - it's Florida but it is really hard to find fresh juices, it's mostly smoothies with dairy, proteins and frozen yogurt, ice. The price for the juice $4 - pretty normal. However food prices are high. One little Spinach Melt cost almost $4.. and its so small... and messy, everything was falling out from my sandwich (sandwich comes with tasty mustard sauce). I give 3 stars because the prices are high and the wait is very long. I agree with other people, it's hard when there is no line, everyone comes in and tries to get attention. My lunch break was 30 min usually, so just 20 min I had to wait for food and then rush back to work, eat my messy sandwish at the computer. So I learned to call up front (they do not have take out menu, no online menu - with prices) so know what you like, call up front, order.. and then pick it up in 15-20 min. Saves lots of time.

We started off with a glass (small solo cup actually) of freshly juiced carrot juice with ginger. I've had carrot juice before--this was entirely different. The ginger adds a touch of sweetness to the carrot juice that makes it good. Nothing like juice from the can. For lunch I had one of the few items with meat--the tuna pita. As with the other pitas it came jammed full of veggies galore, a tomato based dipping sauce, and another green dipping sauce that added taste (and probably calories) to an otherwise dry pita sandwich. For dessert we had an oatmeal cranberry cookie. The cookies are all vegan, but it still tasted fine to me. The entire operation: order, prep, serve, cashier was handled by one person so it was sort of slow, but quality does take time, no?

Reading some of these other reviews, I can totally relate. I am a local and want to support this place but have to agree strongly with the other bad reviews. First off the service is soooo not friendly or helpful. I have given this place more than a couple of tries And every single time I feel awkward because no one seems like they are interested in taking my order. Also I found the food to be bland and uninventive. The smoothie I got was mostly ice and watered down. The salads and produce never seem like they're fully washed. juices are good. I so wish this place would be something more it's just not. It's pretty much like no one gives a damn. You would think that warmth and kindness comes with health-food not in this case. :(

I would give this place 5 stars if it wasnt for the service. I love everything on their menu. However, if they are busy ...they do not even acknowledge your presence unless they are ready to take your order. No "Hey i'll be right with you" They literally just ignore you until they are ready to make/take your full order. No "can i get you something to drink?" or "hey what can i get for you. itll be a few because we have quite a few people ahead of you as you can see...." NOTHING.

It's been said before - I'll gladly eat vegetarian if it's made tasty. And, I've complained bitterly about the lack of true healthy options in Miami. I'm dying to love a place like the Last Carrot, but it's just OK. It's an option. It's sustenance. Veggie burger pita looked decent for what it was - a whole wheat pita filled with a veggie burger, sprouts, carrots, lettuce, cucumber. With some vinaigrette, it was edible....and "good for me," certainly far healthier than the ham & gruyere panini I'd have gotten at the Fresh Market. It was just so unexciting. Don't get me wrong, I love veggies. Put a full plate of broccoli in front of me, and I'll eat it. I was trained to eat my veggies from an early age. It's just that veggies as the main event don't quite do it. Crunchy and Plain Jane... It's also not *that* cheap - add a smoothie to the pita, and you're up around what a (more flavorful) wrap at Berries would cost. Oh yeah, but all of those contain some form of meat...so we're back to that again. So yeah - it's an option. I'll switch it up every once in a while and head here when I'm feeling like a fatso, but don't expect me to get that excited about it. Hey, but I do feel about 10 times better in the afternoon post-consumption of the veggie burger pita than I would have had I gone with a ham and gruyere panini at the Fresh Market. Even considering the cost and lack of excitement, that alone might be worth 3 stars...

I have been coming to The Last Carrot since high-school. The food is always fresh and delicious! Yes, they only accept cash, but not to worry, they have an ATM inside for their customers. My usual order is the tuna pita with their delicious vinaigrette sauce. If you love fresh smoothies, try their strawberry/banana smoothie with honey. Deeeelish! The only issue is, don't come here if you're starving. There is usually a wait for your food to be prepared. Enjoy!

  • Marty C.

I really love the "freshness" of everything on the menu. I have always had great sandwiches and juices and can't say anything bad about the food. Everything is prepared in front of you and it is obvious that everything is properly cleaned etc. The only reason I don't give this place a five star rating is because of the service. If this is your first visit, expect that no one will greet you. Grab a seat and wait. They are mindful of when you arrived and will take care of you in the correct order. They are not rude but do not give the appearance of happy either. It's all very odd in my book. Regardless, the meal is always oh so healthy and good!

A local health/vegan favorite. VERY "divey" and "hole in the wall" but that's part of the charm. Limited menu but what they ave is delicious AND GET PLENTY OF SAUCES (you'll know what I mean after you try them both).

  • Donner T.

Not sure why Last Carrot has some of the multi-star ratings it does. Service there is miserable even by Miami standards. More surprisingly - on second thought its not surprising - they don't care. Others mentioned the sloppiness behind the line, the unorganized nature, and the complete lack of acknowledgement. I've been skipped over, and stood at the counter for more than 10 mins before even being acknowledged. Several other undesirable incidences. Food is a service business. Skip the Last Carrot and go elsewhere.

Going to catch a movie yesterday afternoon and we wanted a healthy small lunch. I had this place bookmarked and it sounded perfect. When we walked in nobody said "hello" nor greeted us, so we just sat down at the bar stools by the counter. I grabbed the plastic menu off the counter top and it looked good. They only carry smoothies, juices, salads, and sandwiches. Small menu with not such a great selection. They had other patrons in there but were not super busy. There was a lady and a man working behind the counter. The guy finally came over to get our order and he just did not seem very happy to be working. Do not get me wrong, he was not rude at all just not pleasant either. I ordered the tuna pita and grasshopper drink which was pineapple and wheatgrass combined. Hubby ordered water and chicken salad wrap. Our food was placed in front of us. All I could think is how am I going to eat this. Basically your mouth would have to be open like six inches to take a bite. We both asked for forks so we could eat it this way. The sauce they give you, not quite sure what it is was very tasty and good, so I thought. The pita was very thin more like a Tortilla, even actually thinner than that. The tuna and chicken salad in both of our pita's seemed to lack quantity. Small crumbled up pieces of chicken and tuna. Basically the sandwich was very dry and flavorless. As I was sitting taking bites, in plain view of behind the counter. I watched the lady handle cash from a paying customer then walk right over and started to cut up vegetables with her bare hands. No washing, no gloves, it was ultra disgusting. There was two customers sitting next to us, so I immediately quit eating and hubby kept eating as he was not aware of what I saw. Obviously, I was not going to say anything in front of the other patrons. Oh then it get's better. As I am thoroughly disgusted by the food handling, I then watch her get vegetables out of a plastic grocery bag, to be exact, green onions, never washing them, drags them out of the bag, big knife in hand cuts them up and throws them into the food processor. It continued with carrots and other items. I believe she was making the sauce. Then I look down and underneath on the floor of the refrigerator I see filthy dried up food stuck to the floor and bottom of the refrigerator. I know we do not always see how are food is prepared from many hidden kitchens. But when it stares you in the eye, in front of you, it is a complete turnoff. In all, I felt the place was filthy, not well maintained at all and handling procedures with food was just so wrong. I could not get out of there fast enough. I made hubby stop eating his sandwich we paid our exact bill of $20 with a $3 dollar tip and quickly left. Never to return......I really do not like negative reviews but this place really needs to focus on cleanliness and handling food properly.

This is a strange review. The food was great since it's so healthy and tasted so good. The service was so rude, I cannot believe the 3 women behind the counter feel ok treating people like that. I wasn't raised with such rudeness and I'm from NY. I actually felt like they were angry that people were in there. It was weird. Too bad as this place has the kind of food I want to eat. I wonder if one of them owned the place and felt entitled to act so bitter. I hope so because I don't want to get anyone fired.

The food is so good, but the service is so awful. They are so rude, that it's almost laughable, absolutely no customer service. I've been here a few times and it's the same each time. They are almost angry everytime you place an order, they also will completely ignore you. I just don't understand why anyone would treat other people that way, let alone their customers. Also it's always dirty, I always look at the ceiling and I get that they make fresh juices, but pretty sure that ceiling has never been cleaned.

As any local knows, The Last Carrot offers a no frills approach to veggie heaven. Something about the image of a bunny rabbit carrying a carrot-knapsack gets me every time. There's a menu chock full of vitamin-packed meals, but what it lacks is diversity. This menu's probably been the same since they opened back in the 70s... which was probably the same time they gave the interior a facelfit. The bar stools with the ribbed cushions - you may call it kitch and cute, but this is the way its been since I was coming here 10 years ago. Maybe it's time to pour some new life into the cafe? Looks aside, the chicken salad pita is a winner. The shreaded white meat doesn't come bathed in mayonaise (yay), and the pita's bursting with shredded carrots, sprouts, tomatoes and cucumbers. Marry this pocket with one of their freshly made juices and you've got yourself a multi-vitamin meal. Note: all drinks come with the optional shot of wheat grass or ginger. There's a dearth of options when it comes to geniunely fresh and healthy food, so The Last Carrot is a welcome respite.

I love the chicken melt spinach pie. I get it every time with the green sauce on the side. What's in the green sauce? No friggin' clue but I like it. Smoothies available but they dont have everything thats on the menu. Staff is good, free parking in the grove. Cash only

Overrated! I've been meaning to try this place out for months, finally found the time to go. If you're going during lunch, parking is a challenge. I walk in take a look at the menu. I know this is the Grove and things are usually overpriced, but damn. $8 for a Tuna Pita? At least from what I've read from others the service sucks, and this time was no different. I stood there in front of one of the ladies. I understand you're busy and all but at least look at me. At least say "I'll be right with you", some type acknowledgment showing you're thankful you're here and no where else. Another downer, cash only. Seriously? It's 2011, get with the times. After 5 minutes I said forget it and walked away. Never tasted the food, cause I simply didn't have the time. I'm glad this happened since it lead me to another place that I've never tried before and so thankful that I did. First and Last (Carrot) time!

I really enjoy eating healthy and tasty food. The Last Carrot really delivers on that. The bonus is they have a parking lot, which is a rarity in Coconut Grove.

Found this gem with the help of Yelp while in Coconut Grove. Tried the Grasshopper juice which is pineapple and wheat grass + added ginger for no extra charge. Very good and only 4 bucks. What a deal. All of the juices are reasonably priced.

I was expecting this place to be completely different. I thought it would be some health-nut place, I guess kind of like Beehive. But it's not. It's counter service with a bar and a few tables and chairs too. I was on the look-out for sanitary issues but didn't notice anything that bothered me. We went to the bar and ordered some things to-go. The menu is kind of small and easy so we got tuna pita sandwiches and smoothies. I really liked both. We didn't have to wait too long, about 15 minutes. The tuna sandwich was loaded with veggies and the vinagrette was the best part, I'll have to remember to get extra next time. And the strawberry smoothie was more like juice but tasted just like a strawberry smoothie. The banana smoothie I tasted wasn't as good as the strawberry but still good. But you definitely have to order chips and a homemade brownie plus a smoothie to fill you up. I wonder if that's because it's healthy and mostly non-filling veggies or because the portions are kind of small yet surprisingly cheap?

The staff is always friendly and the food is delicious! I usually always get the chicken salad sandwich... But, he melts are great as well!

Not too friendly counter service, but it's a no-frills kind of place like that. If you're in the mood for some healthy eating and fresh fruit/vegetable juices and smoothies, come here. The tuna pita sandwich is yummy (not drowning in mayonnaise) and the falafel and hummus sandwich is also done just right. Lunch time gets pretty busy here, so make sure to be patient, make eye contact and be prepared to blurt out your order quickly/concisely. Oh and it's cash only!

Small place, bar counter service and free parking. No matter what "sandwich" you get the sauce will make it great. I had the veggie burger and she had a hummus. Everything is served on a very thin pita. So, if you don't like it messy you may wish to order a pie (think empenada here). We showed up 15 minutes before they closed on Sunday evening so they were out of a few fruits for smoothies and the place could use some attention to being clean (bathroom especially). The motto that rang out was "at least it is vegan". I just hope all behind the scenes was cleaner than what met the eye but that is rarely the case. Vegan cookie was a treat and great. How often do you get a vegan white chocolate macadamia cookie (or was it vegan). Also, it was nice to have a fresh juice though this close to the mall scene. In short - It was tasty. I just can't truly trust it.

This hidden gem has the best fresh vegan/organic food a girl could ask for. It's so good that the line is to the door during lunch hour so make sure you order ahead of time. The girls that work the counter are always so nice & hospitable - they never fail to call me by name. I highly recommend this place to anyone who hasn't tried it! :)

I wish there were more places like this in Miami. The menu is simple but always good. Fresh squeezed juices, home made dressings, plentiful veggies, tasty toppings, and homemade vegan dessert. All you have to do is sit at the bar, and order your food, the staff are very nice btw. But you will wait a little if it's lunch time I suggest coming a little before or after the rush, or ordering beforehand if time is crucial for you. Best fresh food around and at a reasonable price. Really, they can't make it easier.

Small place, not fancy - a hole-in-the-wall spot,, yummy curry tofu pita, reggae music playing, and just relaxing...BUT slow service. There were only 2 employees - on a Saturday afternoon.. The bonus is that I've seen this place on Groupon like 3x in the past month, sooo grab a friend or a few and enjoy a guilt-free lunch!

    (4)
  • Jeanette N.

Small cozy place with a bar and reggae music in the background. Gotta love the fact that it's all natural products, thus they will only sell you sandwiches win ingredients "in season". The best part of this place, and the reason I gave them 4 instead of 3 stars was their "yellow-green sauce". I have no idea what's in that sauce but it is absolutely delicious. I wish I could just buy a jar of that sauce and put it on everything. Mmm... yummy. The reason they don't get 5 stars is that this is a "cash-only" location. I mean, they have an ATM inside the store, and for me personally that is no reason not to go there, but I can see how that may be inconvenient for some people.

"Very and tasty, I had the spicy tofu in the whole wheat pita. The sauces they provide to go with its is delicious, the green one was my favorite. I washed it down with there grasshopper juice, a mix of pineapple juice and a shot of wheatgrass. Although tasty, I was disappointed that the pineapple juice came out of a bottle instead of being freshly squeezed like there other juices. The hummus was bland, liked that there was little to no salt but it needed more lemon and garlic. I would go again to try their other offerings."

This place is good, except for the service. I was completely ignored when I walked in. When someone finally decided to take my order, I got the tuna melt and a grapefruit juice-both were good, but I don't see why it took them over 20 minutes to make them.

The best thing about this venue is by far the staff. They're really friendly and are all characters. The food is good, A-OK, but if you go here you're really coming to eat because you want some real, whole, healthy food. It's not a gourmet eatery. It's a bare bones restaurant with some Coconut Grove style flare and decor. The juices are good and if you're into juicing then this would be a great spot for you. The sandwiches do not include anything like chips or fries etc so it can seem a bit pricey for just a small pita but it's still pretty tasty and healthy. You're paying a little extra for your upcoming six pack! It was really nice to see several Vegan desserts as well!

I came here because I thought it would be a good vegetarian friendly place to come with some friends. I am so glad I tried it out before bringing anyone with me. I mean, yes, vegetarian food should be chock-full of vegetables, but, what makes a vegetarian place good is how creative they are with the veggies! I can chop veggies and throw them into a pita with some cheese at home no problem, so, going to a restaurant to be served this type of food is a problem for me. I want to be wow-ed and given a reason to come back. Oh, and if you are going to have a vegetarian place, please stock it with more than just spinach, bananas, papayas, carrots, cheese and peanut butter--especially if you have a menu boasting fruit smoothies, and varied vegetarian delights. Luckily, I eat fish, so my only meal option (not by choice, this was pretty much all they had that day) was the tuna spinach melt. It was small and satiated my hunger, but, not really very filling. When you order that, that is all you get. No chips, or fruit, or salad on the side. Just a tiny sandwich. That and some sauce to dip it in, but at the end, they asked me if I used it. When I said, "no" they took it and put it back into the refrigerator--presumably for the next customer to use, which made me cringe at the thought of maybe having been given some one's old sauce. This place just felt lazy. I won't bring my friends here. So, Im still on the look out for a good vegetarian place.

Step into the Caribbean islands when you walk through the door. Unique, independant healthy eating option in the Grove...so happy I found this place. The pita sandwiches are very good and everything is made with the freshest ingredients possible, right in front of you. The papaya juice is delicious and the limeade also very good.. I'll now consider myself a regular.

The food isn't terrible so it deserves more than a single star. But I will probably never come back here. The first time I went it was so disgusting and dirty. The service was terrible and the menu limited. The meals may be filling and decent but I could make a better juice/smoothie/"sandwich" or whatever at home. We decided to try it again because it was nearby and we weren't very hungry... This time it was cleaner but the service was still terrible. They were out of the majority of their ingredients (a smoothie/juice shop with only bananas, blackberries, and pineapple...) and forgot the banana in the only smoothie they could offer us. They have a cult like following and I'm not sure why. I can make any of their menu items from home, anyone can. And my kitchen is cleaner, better stocked, and quicker. I hate giving poor reviews but this place is not worth it, ever. Like I said, not terrible food but it's just not worth the hassle.

Not quite a fan of vegetarian fare, having said that - these guys have the right alternatives - You can get a good meal here, whether is a wrap or a sandwich with a smoothie and feel totally satisfied. Now, don't be misguided into thinking it is all that healthy- a pita wrap can pack a few hundred calories and a smoothie a few more - but hey ! we only live once !! The bottom line is that the Last Carrot is good and original if you happen to be in the area - not exactly a destination place - but they do things right so YEAH !

Quiet the interesting little restaurant. I have to say I felt SUPER healthy eating here. I was sad their orange juicer wasn't working during my visit, but I had the mixed veggies juice which was ginger, carrot, celery and beet, I think next time I'd leave out the ginger, it was just a a little much for me. I love that they freshly juice each drink, I could just taste all of the vitamins. I also had a spinach pie which was basically a pie shaped piece of wheat pita filled with spinach, it was then broiled with cheese and topped with a fresh tomato, tasted pretty good, but it was different. The interior is really small and most people seem to order to go or sit at the bar. Their pita sandwiches looked REALLY excellent, I'd try one of those next time along with my juice, minus the ginger ;)

Food was good. Decor was awful. They dont accept credit card payments which is quite strange. Customer Service was good. Also, they need to put the prices on their menu and make the prices on the board more visible.

I would of given this place 5 stars but just because they took REALLY long to take my order I believe they don't deserve it. The spicy tofu pita was very satisfying after a long day of painting, cleaning and moving in process I was pretty satisfied. I also had some naturally squeezed juice, I believe it was carrot and cucumber juice, very refreshing!

I work around the corner from here so I come by and get juices and snacks fairly often, but don't often stay and eat here. The service is slow but everyone has always been nice to me and pretty accommodating. Fresh juice (carrot/orange with ginger, usually) is my weakness. There's not much to it, I guess, but I'm always pleased when I come here. It's hard to find fresh juice places in Miami so I appreciate the Last Carrot a lot. Like everyone says, the green dressing is seriously amazing. Tip: if you like the spinach pies, I'm pretty sure they're the ones the Daily Bread sells by the bag, just spruced up. I like the cheese/tomato one. The parking thing- at least they have parking, which is more than can be said for most of the Grove. To be honest, there's usually plenty of street parking when I'm around, so the small parking lot has never seemed like that much of an issue. I usually walk, though, so I guess if you're making the trip over here from the Gables or something it can be an issue. But yeah. Just park on the street.

The Last Carrot has a really simple, uncomplicated menu of fresh juices, pita sandwiches and salads, and a perfect lunch spot for me. I'm a sit-at-the-bar kind of person and I love the authentically vintage lunch counter here. I came at the tail end of the lunchtime rush, and had a great meal, fresh squeezed wheatgrass and pineapple juice and a spicy tofu wrap with veggies with the most amazing herbal dressing, all for $11! Cash only, though, so be prepared.

I love the concept of this, fresh food, organic, vegan friendly. I'm a resident of the Grove so I've eaten here countless times but my most recent trip will be my last. Found hair in my pita the last two times and why, oh why don't they just hire better people. The service sucks!

I think I've found my new favorite haunt, thanks to Sharie B's stellar recommendation! As a "pescaterian," finding good edibles for lunch can be a serious challenge. There are only so many Subway veggie sandwiches I can eat - for real! Anyway, The Last Carrot is a wonderland of options for someone like moi. From peanut butter and banana pitas to spinach melts and delicious spicy hummus. It's so incredibly rare to find a restaurant where I can eat EVERY item on the menu. Yay Last Carrot! The pita sandwiches are delish, I had the hummus and the BF had the tuna. The homemade vinaigrette they serve with it is to die for. I want to eat only that on every salad I consume for the rest of my life!!! Can't wait to try the variety of juices - carrot, cucumber, wheatgrass. I may even be back tomorrow, who knows! They also take lunch orders by email (if you send your order by 1130am) and they deliver. One thing - I did get hungry pretty soon after scarfing down my hummus pita. Then again, I probably should have picked up a vegan dessert or some juice - no doubt it would have further filled me up.

I'm a hole in the wall kind of girl. I don't really like huge chain restaurants. Which brings me HERE! The Last Carrot is Coconut Grove's best kept secret lunch spot. Seriously, unless you live in the Grove you probably would never find it. It's right by a ghetto looking 711 kind of place, except its not even called 711. Their menu is ALL HEALTHY. Which gains a billion brownie points in my book. And the owner always greets you with a smile. Healthy food + Friendly staff = One Happy BELLY!

Food was DELICIOUS! I had a tofu salad with the orange sauce and it was SO good. I was full for hours!! I also had the orange-papaya juice which was absolutely perfect. I can't give it a full 5 stars though, due to the horrible service. I ordered my salad and said I wanted a juice, preparing to ask which juice the woman working would recommend, and she cut me off and walked away! The entire time that my friends and I were at the counter, it was like we didn't exist. The 3-4 women working cared only about their own conversation, talking about strip clubs and high school and whatever else. I ran out of sauce and wanted to ask for more, but nobody even looked in our direction. All the women also had their hair down and weren't wearing gloves... I'm not a germaphobe by any means but hair in food is by far the most disgusting thing on this planet. In short-- great food but they should seriously work on their service.

If you like to wait indefinitely and not be acknowledged while watching them make sandwiches with their bare hands dipping into lettuce and other toppings then this is your place. Not hygienic, slow service. As for the food? Who knows, who cares.

This place is great! I go for lunch every so often when I've got a hankering for a light, tasty, yet satisfying lunch. My only gripe with the place is the service. The place is tiny everyone knows when you've walked in, yet you feel like you need to stand there jumping up and down and waving your hands to get service. But if you can get pass that, you're in for a treat. My usual is the chicken salad pita. Its chocked full of fresh crispy veggies and comes with a vinaigrette that gives it just the right final touch.

I love this place. I don't think I have ever had something from here that wasn't to die for. Truly the cheapest vegan food in Miami. Its a local Grove rat favorite and can be busy sometimes but is well worth any kind of wait, at least for me. The girl who owns it is the sweetest, she inherited it from her father and I think is doing a great job. It wouldn't be the Grove without the Last Carrot. They have the best salad dressings I have ever had in my life.

what makes this place good in my opinion is that is a no-frills, straight to the point kinda' joint. I've been here with vegetarians and omnivores alike and both have enjoyed the casual environment. The selections arent wild, but they get the deed done. You can taste the freshness in all their ingridients, specially when you pick anything with avocado! Their dressings are sublime, sure theres really only two options, but it makes life a lot less complicated, and if you cant decide, do what I do and ask for both, when mixed they taste even better! What you wont get enough of are the varied selection of juices and smoothies, I always go for the weirdest combination because it always ends up being the most delicious. Some personal advice: splurge for the shot of wheat-grass, it does the sould and body good! I love having lunch here, and I will contine to come for as long as they'll have me.

There are only so many Subway/Quiznos veggie sandwiches one can eat... Take a break from it all and get a healthy pita at Last Carrot. From peanut butter and banana pitas to spinach melts, all sandwiches are delish. They have two homemade vinaigrettes they serve which are to die for. I want to eat that on every salad I consume for the rest of my life!!! They offer a variety of fresh juices and some amazing vegan desserts (such as the strawberry cake with tofu icing) which is always a must as the sandwiches are not that filling IMO.

  • Chris T.

I like this place, the food is good, they've got a range of vegan and gluten-free options, and the atmosphere is casual, quiet and great for a mellow leisurely lunch. The food is prepared before your eyes in a relatively clean kitchen, free (but limited) parking and cash only (as far as I know). The staff is cordial but the service is glacial whether he place is empty or at peak hours. Don't go for lunch on a week day, you won't get back to work in time even if you ask for takeout. I would recommend ordering by phone and picking up.

Can you say "mmmmm"? This place is veggie heaven. Everything is organic and fresh. I had a cucumber/cream cheese carrot sandwhich on pita bread. My bf had a peanut butter apple sandwhich. The smoothies have fruit with honey on them. You feel healthy and fully satisfied when you leave. One of the best places I've even gone to eat. For payment, bring cash because that's all they take.

I'm friends with the owner and several employees, so I hold The Last Carrot dear to my heart. It's a family business (now on it's 2nd generation) and "Come as you are" could not be more applicable to the environment of this restaurant. No shirt, no shoes, no big deal. Pita sandwiches are the main attraction and are stuffed to the brim with food. They have chicken and tuna salad pitas, spinach pies, salads, smoothies, hummus and cashew butter (made in house), felafel's, veggie burgers, tofu and a killer black bean soup. My favorite: alfalfa sprouts in a chicken pita, with vinaigrette dressing, but hold the avocado. The best part? Vegetarian and vegan friendly. And I MEAN, they'll-understand-why-you-don't-eat-garlic friendly. They're not a strictly vegan establishment, so if it offends you to see chicken on the menu, go somewhere else. CASH ONLY.

The chicken melt is TO DIE FOR w the green dressing. They have a lovely variety of fresh juice, smoothies, salads & sandwiches. You cannot beat the price point! Most of the customers are regulars, the owner and the staff are cordial but not overly friendly...especially with newcomers.

Fresh papaya juice and wheat veggie pita with hummus. Health Nut list to the max. The great Vegetarian and Healthfood Counter in the grove. The spinach pies are also pretty yummy. This is not a strictly vegetarian place, they do serve chicken and tuna, but its all fresh (at least that's what the food tastes like). They make great juices and smoothies with all natural ingredients. It is expensive for a hole in the wall hippie place - a pita sandwich made of hummus and freshly squeezed juice with a vegan brownie for desert cost about $10. I wouldn't label this posh though because I'm sure the rent is more expensive than the locally grown and raised ingredients.

Someone told me to go here for lunch, and I went today. The food was different, good I will admit. But what really irked me is the service. The woman didn't even look up when I came in, say hello, and frankly had a bad face on. I sat there at the counter for about 10 minutes with no menu and dirty plates in front of me with no help. Finally after eyeing her she came over and said "what do you want." I mean, there was only two other people in there! Bad, bad service.

First time here the other day during lunch and it was quite busy, but the service was good. The place is tiny, so I ordered to go because of limited seating. I had the tuna pita and a fruit smoothie. The tuna pita was delicious and super filling. It's stuffed with so much fresh veggies! The smoothie was nothing special for the price ($4), it was definitely fresh, but I didn't care for the juice (possibly juice concentrate, I didn't get a good look) that was mixed into the smoothie, but I did like the honey added to the drink. I will definitely go back to try the other pita sandwiches. Oh and the creamy herbal dressing is delicious!

I went to The Last Carrot for lunch today and it was absolutely delicious! I had the felafel pita sandwhich. The pita bread was very thin, so it's kind of a messy sandwhich and I would recommend that you either ask for a fork or keep it wrapped up as you eat it. The sandwhich comes with a green sauce, I have no idea what's in this sauce but it is so good. The place is your typical hipster kind of vegan hole-in-the-wall place in coconut grove so you cannot expect it to be so pristine. Everything is natural and made right in front of you so if you don't like what you see you can walk right out. I only gave it 4 stars because of the cleanliness, but the fact that they were preparing my lunch right in front of me was a huge plus! Everyone was very nice it took a few minutes for the girl to acknowledge us, but nothing I would complain about, the bar was almost completely full and she was only one of 2 servers/cooks so it's understandable. I would recommend this place if you want to have a quick, healthy lunch with a home-made feel. I didn't try the juices but they looked amazing and I will be going back to try one.

Friends raved about this place so I decided to check it out. The menu looked interesting and I was set to order a special dish when I saw the young girl behind the counter attend to other customers. She scratched her head, picked up a counter rag and wiped remains of a prior order from it, handled money and proceeded onto the next customer. Just is all fine in a days work but where the heck are the plastic gloves? She never once washed her hands! She handled all the food with her BARE HANDS after taking cash, after the counter rag, after scratching her head! How sanitary is this place? That did it for me. I walked out.

Half the menu was out of stock (there were literally no apples, avocados, no fruit except frozen bananas, no veggie burgers, on and on almost comical) Ordered items based on a short list of what they did have. Here goes: veggie and cheese pita had out of the bag shredded mozzarella and blah pita, in fairness sauce on the side was decent. Hummus was horrendous so loaded with garlic you regretted it all day and devoid of any salt, the worst ever. Tuna spinach melt was decent. Their namesake is appropriate.

The Last Carrot isn't much to look at, but from the second I walked in the door I knew that I had made it to a little slice of vegan heaven. Instead of trying to decide between Chinese take out classics like Buddha's Delight and Bean Curd & Eggplant or pizza (no cheese) plus a meager list of toppings from the local pizzeria, I had a full menu to choose from including vegan desserts! It had only been a week since I dined at an ultra vegan-friendly restaurant but it seemed like an eternity and I took my time looking over the menu. Would I try the Spicy Tofu Pita Sandwich? Maybe the Hummus Pita? Homemade Veggieburgers are always a safe choice. Or did I want to go for one of their ginormous (yes that's a word, because I say so!) salads. Maybe some hearty soup and a salad. Then there was the prospect of having a smoothie made from real fruit, not concentrated fruit juice or syrups. As I tried to make my decision I looked down to see a huge vegan cake beckoning me to come closer and a full case of vegan cookies and brownies. What's a little Vegan Guinea Pig to do with such choices put in front of her? For the rest of the review and menu items click here veganguineapig.blogspot.…

A fan of Last Carrot is a great way to describe my following of this healthy neighborhood joint. It has become part of my regular Saturday routine, yoga @ Equinox Merrick Park and then off to Last Carrot for a fresh, organic veggie juice (carrot, beet and ginger), a tuna pita or salad and a shot of wheat grass. Their fruit smoothies are incredible as well. The falafal pita is my favorite, but you have to get there before the lunch rush to get one. Super friendly staff, a great local eatery.

I'm not even a vegetarian and that food was delicious. The carrot celery drink was sweeter than expected. I would definitely go back but unfortunately I'm not from around here and would have to travel far! All I can say is I wish there was one in Boston!

I am not a health food fan, but I LOVE the chicken salad sandwiches in whole wheat pita from the Last Carrot. The location is a bit dicey, and tricky to get in and out of without getting hit, but it's worth the risk for that chicken salad. It is stuffed generously into whole wheat pita with romaine lettuce, cucumbers, shredded carrots, sprouts (which I hate and never get) and tomatoes. Each one comes with a container of dressing -- the vinaigrette is great. I worked at the Miami Museum of Science for four years and we got food from The Last Carrot at least three times a month, and almost always the same chicken salad pita -- it was THAT good.

This is definitely a hole in the wall but serves its purpose, we had the spicy tofu pita (liked this a lot) and the tuna pita (was fine)... Service was fast and friendly. Smoothy was too heavy on the honey. I would say the last carrot was fine, but I am not rushing back

I'm really into healthy eating and the more natural my food is the more I enjoy it. That's why I love the Last Carrot. There's no grease, no salt, no sugar and lots of veggies. If you want a smoothie they sweeten it up with honey and use real fruits. If you order a pita sandwich it is exploding with fresh veggies. The garden salad, tuna melt which comes in a spinach small pita and tuna pita are my favorites. They all come with home-made sauces on the side one is a tangy carrot sauce and the other is green and I can't remember what vegetable it is made out of, but it's delish. The Last Carrot is also cheap. For $20 you and a friend can walk out feeling satisfied of course there is one down-side. Dining at this eatery requires patience at lunch time. It gets slammed and because it's only a staff of 3 to 4, it takes forever to order and eat. I usually don't have patience for that sort of thing, but The Last Carrot is an exception. It really is one of the Grove's gems.

The last carrot was a great place and had great food. I remember it when it started as a take out across the street. As year went by and the original founder passed away it became a bit of a wild card. The sandwiches are less full and the tatse has changed a bit but it's still worth the time to check out for lunch. its mostly vegetarian but they have cheese and chicken. They don't often have all the menu and the staff can be a bit lax in their work ethic but that's part of the charm for some. it could be cleaner but its not dirty. The food is good, the smoothies good and the desserts good. Sometimes you see a character or two in there and they do have their regulars. The sauces are good. banana smoothie with honey is very good. Overall you wont come out disappointed. if fast commercialized service with unhealthy food is your thing give this place a pass but on a weekend with lots of time and an urge for a healthy satisfying meal this place is a good option

I can remember when this place was across the street next to the Hungry Sailor.. This place has been in the Grove forever serving consistently good healthy food. Go in and grab a hummus on pita with the ginger dressing and a carrot/beet juice and you're set! On top of that, there was always a cool hippy vibe in the place.. something very placid about the place.. you don't pay until you're done.. If I had one thing negative to say, it would be the seating... It can get a bit packed at times... Other than that, nothing but positives.. I'm not a vegetarian and they don't purport to keep a strictly vegetarian menu, so you can't pick on them for that.. Don't hesitate to grab a bite at the Last Carrot.. A grove landmark.
