Best Espresso in the world. $1. The owner told me the whole story about this place and why his place is called The Art of Freedom - Art Gallery - Lounge - Cafe. I will tell you now. The Art Of Freedom is a cafe extraordinaire located in the heart of little Havana on Calle Ocho. (S/W 8th street) Just steps away from the famous Domino Park and many-a-cultural monument and masterpiece. Inches from the pony rides available on weekends. On Calle Ocho in Little Havana, many restaurants and cafes offer window service and counters along the sidewalk for those grabbing a quick Cuban snack or a coffee etc. I tried them all. Regretted every one that didn't come from here. I consider myself an espresso aficionado. I drink of pot of espresso every day and have for years. It keeps the migraines at bay for me. I LOVE espresso. I am an espresso loving girl! Cubans wrote the book on espresso. Of every espresso joint I've tried in Miami or in the world over, this one is the best one. Creamy and strong, bitter and sweet. This rocket fuel is so thick that it will slow down your coffee stirrer. Order a cafe Cubano. (espresso) Or a cafe de leche. (espresso with warm milk) It will come with sugar unless you ask for it without. Order a Cafe Cubano negro, (black) no sucre. (no sugar) if you are like me and do not care for the sweet stuff. Just give me caffeine! Order a huge cup (about 32 ounces) of freshly squeezed orange juice. for $3. In Spanish: orange juice =jugos naranja (pronounced na-ran-ha) Pressed Cuban sandwiches are around $5. Empanadas and fresh warm Cuban snacks are around $3, and full Cuban meals can be obtained in the interior dining room for under $10. I got VERY lucky and spoke with the owner about coffee, Cuba and life in general. He told me that Cubans like to drink their morning espresso with toasted bread (pan) topped with butter. He likes to dunk his toasted bread into the coffee for breakfast. I declined the offer of a huge peace of toasted French bread topped with butter because I am allergic to bread, but I was grateful for the cultural lesson that I can now share with you.:-) He told me his story of starting this cafe and his world travels. He sought out his fellow Cuban natives the world over but has never met a Cuban vagrant. His theory? The hard times that he experienced during the communist regime in Cuba produced hard working people. There was no point to working hard. Someone had to pick up the slack and work ten times harder for those that chose not to work at all. Sad times for artists. When he came to America, the luxury of being able to work hard and be rewarded was so soul-satisfying that he just wanted to work harder. Now his cafe is named "The art Of freedom" and it is an open window to gallery installations, live music, innovative art and Cuban soul food. If you have a sudden craving for Cuban espresso ( I do now that I have written this review!) I will let you in a SWEET secret of mine. Buy yourself some "Cafe Lallave espresso". The company goes back one hundred years to the hills of Trinidad, Cuba. Available in all Latin grocery stores and many major supermarket chains. This espresso is about one quarter of the cost of other brands of espresso offered by big brands like Pete's, Starbucks and Coffee Bean etc. Lallave is ten times better too! The best espresso in the world that I have had so far is here. $1. The soulful and cultural experience that is coming here is free. Music. Food. Art. Freedom. *Cheers* To freedom. -Something worth buying stock in.:-)

This is a great gem on Calle Ocho in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. It's an open air street cafe with charm, serving authentic, delectable Cuban fare. I ordered a traditional Cuban sandwich. It was beyond expectations delicious. The roasted pork, ham, cheese and pickled red onions all had a distinct flavor and texture and were full of flavor. It was really great value too. The sandwich was $6.00 and it was giant. Eating at noon, I wasn't hungry again until 8 or so. The service was great, a very considerate Cuban chef made sure I was taken care of. I'll definitely be going back.

stopped here for a quick minute off a tour bus. The driver raved about how great the super sandwich was and how 2 ppl Shld share one because of its size. Honestly it was ok. Reminded me of a warmed up foot long club sandwich from subway. I'll be honest, I was hungry, so I crushed it tho. But overall Nothing to run home abt. The frozen drinks are refreshing. Croquette was dry and over seasoned.

My wife and I stopped in Miami for quick vacation. A coffee loving friend suggested I stop in little Havana for some coffee. I took his advice, and boy am I glad I stopped at The Art of Freedom! I've never had espresso this good! I chatted with the owner's brother for several minutes and had a really great time. Very friendly atmosphere and a highlight of our trip! Note: The McDonald's next door has free wi-fi.

I had been sorely disappointed by the food in Miami, but the saving grace was this counter spot in Little Havana. Friendly chef, good moist roast chicken with plantains and rice. Generous portions. Forget the other places.
