Small family run Italian restaurant in strip mall. The food is authentic and very moderately priced. Can't beat it for the price - sure there is better Italian but you will easily pay 2X the price. Enjoy the family run ambiance and food.

Good service. Salads are poor, but thats the only thing. Pizzas and desserts are awesome!

After seeing so many great reviews, my mom and I stopped in for dinner here one night really looking forward to a great meal. It wasn't so great. Both of the dishes we ordered were fairly bland. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The price for the portion wasn't quite on par with the style of restaurant either. Casa Mia down the street is maybe a dollar or two more for some entrees, but provided a much better experience and more flavorful food. The experience killed it for us more than anything. Service was so slow, and not because they were busy. One of the only other tables seemed to be either regulars or friends of the owners because everyone working there spent almost the whole time at that table, seated with them and chatting. Every once in a while, our waitress would get up from their table and come see if we needed anything. She wasn't apologetic for any wait, and she wasn't particularly friendly. Overall, we left with a bad taste in our mouth as a combination of bland food and bad service.

Tried a new place for Italian. Owner very sweet lady. Enjoyed the flat bread, homemade gnocchi porcini, and the puttanesca but sadly cannot recommend the chicken saltimbocca. Dish was oily and prosciutto thick and lacking the traditional touch of fresh sage. Still I will come again to explore the offerings and pizza selection. The Limoncello cake for dessert was luscious!

Had a great time at this place. Service was so friendly and warm, it made for an outstanding experience. The food was also good! Everything tasted authentically Italian and homemade. I had a caprese salad and we shared a calzone. Both were really good, but the real winner was the apple cake, which I loved!

Primo, the owner, was extremely friendly and attentive. He went out of his way to make sure that we were pleased with everything. We frequently travel to Italy (lots of hubby's family there) and can vouch for it being a very authentic experience. The burrata in particular was heavenly and I'm in love with the focaccia bread. Saltimbocca alla Romana was delicious. Definitely will return.

Place sucks. Had to go to food trucks in way home. Bad service with an attitude by a pretentious bitch waitress who acts that way for invalid reasons.

What a wonderful little gem this restaurant is! It is in a strip mall on the causeway, but you will feel as though you are sitting at your favorite aunt's house having the best italian comfort food! I had the Caesar salad and the penne pasta and my partner had the chicken parm. The staff went out of their way to accommodate food allergies, and checked back often to make sure we were ok. The dressing on the Caesar salad is the bomb! Excellent cannoli too! We will most certainly be back!

I am 100% Italian, and Primo trattoria is where the Italians go to get authentic, fresh, home-made-from-scratch real Italian food. Cozy and friendly as only an Italian trattoria can be. Whoever commented on the lack of fancy decor of this place has obviously never visited an Italian trattoria!!

One of our favorite destinations in Europe is Italy and we travel there often. So it was such a delight to discover this wonderful Italian gem of a restaurant in Miami. The food is as good as any of the best that we have had in Italy. It has become our favorite place to eat when we visit here from Toronto, Canada. The restaurant is run by a wonderful family who are so warm and welcoming to us when we visit.

Very enjoyable. The house whine was good, waitress was attentive, food came out quick and hot. The Tiramisu was a small portion but VERY good.

Great food and very friendly service. A very nice family run restaurant with authentic Italian food.

  • Lissett K.

I was craving real pizza italiana and what I got was a complete disaster it was burnt bland and the cheese had no flavor for the price I guess they can use a little better quality ingredients. The pizzaiola was the hostess (odd) and the cashier. For food this place may be good but not for pizza NO, but then again this is a trattoria not a pizzeria so I guess thats why.

Traditional Italian Trattoria with SUPER food! The atmosphere is casual, not fancy. The prices are very good. I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be sure to go back!

Note: the restaurant had one older guy dating and us, a total of 4 adult and 1 child as customers. 1) Over priced for guilty and portion size. My veil parmigiana was $20.00 and the size of an appetizer. The spinach side was enough garlic to clear an acre of land from mosquito's. I left hungry and frustrated 2) The staff, the lady chef, 2 waitress's, and owner were so load all I keep hearing is them going back and forth about "I need to make money, I need to pay bills, I have bills to pay etc.. etc.." all huddled in the corner near the front cash register. Trying to get their attention for anything was impossible. If it wasn't for the one male chef in the kitchen window who finely looked our way we would have never got the bill and could still be their today waiting. They barely checked on the table, the waitress at the end, when picking up some plates, said in quick short Spanish "tu quiere dulce" . Its an Italian restaurant? How about engaging with the customer and getting them to order desert and coffee? We never did get the bill so I walked to the front counter which is the staffs hang out and asked for it. Still left a tip but will never refer this bushiness. The food was good but portion size is so so small for the price and service (none) Appetizer, bottle of water, gnocchi dinner with 3 small meat balls. veil parm dinner and a soup. $84.00 with the tip.

Came here because of the great reviews and tasty looking pictures online. Wow, so disappointed. Pros: Owners and server were all friendly and likable. Cozy atmosphere. Cons: So overpriced. Each entree was $15-20 for tiny, fist-sized, appetizer portions of meat, along with a bowl of pasta. And the taste was... meh. Not bad, but anyone you know who's into cooking can make better on the second try.

We recently relocated to Miami from NY and we were looking for a good Italian Restaurant. Primo is it in Miami. In Miami, the Italian options are very limited and most places offer the Americanized versions of real Italian food. At Primo's the food is as authentic as it gets. Everything we order was superb!!! My son ordered the burrata my husband ordered pasta with sausage and I ordered the lasagna. They were all amazing. Excellent quality food for very reasonable prices!!!! The food @ Primos is prepared for those customers that are looking for a culinary experience that will positively pique their emotions. Ummm

Thanks to all the Yelp reviewers for this one. Wanted to try something new and comments were spot on. Italian food from an Italian family! Met the owners and they were most welcoming. Now for the great food. - Bread was awesome. Sage, olive oil and great spices. Had to have extra serving. - Caesar Salad was fresh with great dressing. Was big enough to share for 2 - Di Parma prosciutto with mozzarella burrata. Exceptional. - Chicken Marsala. Tender, flavorful with the right touch of sweetness. Side of roasted potatoes were also a hit. - Veal puttanesca was tender with fresh and flavorful toppings. - Spaghetti Bolognese. Al dente with meat sauce and shaved Parmesan. Delicious. Enough again for 2. We will have to try desserts next time! Will bring in family and friends here again.

Awesome place. My wife had the chicken Marsala which has such a flavor. It came with a side of fresh pasta which was perfect. I started with a spinach salad which was enough for two.... The dressing and toppings were very good . I then had the chicken saltimboca which was very flavorful and delicate. A must try is the chocolate cake.... Homemade and very good. The owner is so nice and is proud of his restaurant ... You will not be disappointed .

This trattoria is a fantastic place where you can enjoy true Italian food. I'm from Rome and have lived in the US for over 15 years and I can assure you that you can live an authentic experience in this family owned restaurant. Food is delicious and the wine selection is exclusively Italian. Pricing is very reasonable and the owners are wonderful people. Can you ask for more? Arrivederci a presto!

Love this place. Great pizza. Pride of ownership and very authentic. Casual and friendly environment with a varied clientele. It's not pretentious or fancy but there are plenty of those places where you will spend a lot more. I've read some of the 2 star reviews and that was simply not the experience I have had and I have been there 5 times.

The food was authentic but this place is not worthy of a five star rating. I had the pasta fagioli (special mentions by server), a sausage pizza (recommended by server) and the gnocchi (another special). The food came out hot and timed appropriately, but the presentation was nothing fancy. The food reminded me of a good home cooked meal, so if that is what you are looking for you are in luck. As for a dining experience... Not really. The decor is bland with ceiling tiles stained, Christmas lights and neon lights at the entrance, and fake floral on the table. The booths are from the previous place and are in a need of a touch up. With all the options in the area, this is not a place to go for ambiance. The service let a lot to be desired as well. The server was pleasant but not really attentive. First, the beer he brought me (which is the only beer option on the menu) was brought without a glass. Then when he got to the table and put down the beer he asked me if I wanted a glass... Weird. If I said yes he would have to go get one and that would have taken time so I declined. Then when they brought the soup out they asked me if the two entrees were to go?!?! I never told the server anything was to go. I was never offered any bread to the table (like mentioned in other reviews) and I was also never offered another beer at any point of my meal. The final odd piece of service was that I was offered fresh pepper about halfway through my meal?!?! Why not offer when presenting dish? This is a local place with fresh authentic food that has potential. I will return in a few months after reading more reviews to see if service and ambiance has improved.

Very good authentic food! The owner is very sweet and always make sure that you're satisfied. The only compliant I have is that the food takes long to come out.

Based on food alone, I do not recommend. The worst bolognese ever. Also, the bread that they serve is pizza crust and they should not bother. Otherwise the atmosphere is good and the service mediocre.

Made a reservation for valentines day. Got there on time. There was no one to greet us and the only woman who seemed to be the hostess was bussing the tables and when we said we had reservation and she didn't speak English (reservación is a cognate). We waited for 10 minutes until I finally made that clear to a man who seemed to be the owner. He sat us immediately, but never verified our reservation. The ambiance is nice. It's a small place and we weren't in a rush. But it took a half hour to get a bottle of wine, which we also had to flag down a waitress to do so. It's hard to say she was a waitress- it seemed like no one there had an actual job description. There was definitely no Busser. It was odd. Although the place was completely full there was no sense of urgency and I saw staff avoiding eye contact with people flagging them down. I noticed that the same person taking our order was also overseeing the pizza oven. Food was good, but not worth the trouble. Pizza was legit. I could make better gnocchi pesto. At least the pricing was fair. Maybe I caught them on a bad night, but I heard great things about this place and most likely will not be back

Excellent family run Italian restaurant. This is the real deal. If you are used to Italian-American which is great heck I grew up on it. Promos is entirely different fresher, lighter and delicious! Pizza is very good and I absolutely adore their eggplant parmigiana, it features thinly sliced eggplant touched ever so lightly with a tiny bit of flour briefly sautéed then lightly baked covered with delicious tomato sauce and a little wafer of cheese topped with a basil leaf garnish. Each forkful is an amazing explosion of fresh flavors yet oh much lighter than my own or those I had growing up. Service is excellent they always make us feel welcome and at home.

The place was a little far from our hotel but we went off the yelp reviews and took an evening drive. I am glad we did. The meal was delicious. My cappuccino wasn't hot enough but the white chocolate cake made me forget about it.

This place was absolutely fantastic, all of the food is top quality. I would HIGHL recommend any locals to make this a frequent destination and all travelers to stop on in. Wish more restaurants were of this quality.

Quality and authentic Italian food that is second to none!! 5 stars is an understatement. While everything is of the upmost quality, the service and atmosphere is comfortable for any occasion - casual, date night or celebrations. Prices are unbelievably reasonable. Primo is the first place I would send anybody to for the ultimate Italian food experience in Miami.

Fresh and flavorful. Service is wonderful. My Sicilian neighbor feels it is very authentic. And it's not on the Beach so you don't feel smothered with disingenuineness.

Delicious authentic Italian. The pizza is perfection. The margherita pizza is great. The prosciutto and burrata is also quite tasty. Plus, they deliver, which is a bonus.

I have been visiting this establishment for several months. They have not been open for a long time, so there are some glitches that sometimes appear. This said, the owners welcome their guest with open arm. They embrace feedback to your experience and use that to strengthen themselves. The food is FRESH! It is a pleasure to dine with these hosts. It is a joy to experience fresh Italian food that is served to order and with a smile and with great appreciation. It is casual, authentic and delicious. Ask for special and what else might be available from the kitchen as the menu does not hold all offerings? I am and will continue to be a fan!

I am always pleasantly surprised by the yumminess of the food. I keep going back and trying different things. Desserts are a nice change from typical American gloppy overly sweet heavy stuff. They are huge sized, but nice and light and tasty. Pizza is great. Service is super friendly and a bit quirky. Could use more ice in the water. Maybe fill those water glasses more frequently. Caeser salad is to die for.

What an amazing find! I had the chicken Marsala and my husband had the spaghetti with meatballs. From the bread, which was light and crispy, to the salad, to the main courses, we were amazed at just how good everything was. Fresh, light sauces and a very friendly ambiance all made this a very pleasant surprise. The prices are very reasonable and we can't wait to go back again.

Once again, thanks to my fellow Yelpers. Primo's Is my new favorite restuarant. This is as close to eating in Italy as I have been. We went with a group of 5. Service was professional, inviting, and relaxed. The food. Where to start? The bread was delicious. Like a soft Pizza sans the cheese and sauce. Cesar Salad-delicious. Chicken Parm-light and more sautéed than fried, with incredible cheese and sauce. Pasta with meat sauce-Yum. Chicken Marsala-great sweet, crispy onions and sauce. Best for last-The Gnocchi was incredible. When my son asked what kind of sauce it came with, they said, what would you like? He went for the cheese sauce. He is an adult and I have seen him order this in countless places as this is his favorite dish. We all tasted it and agreed Primo's makes the best Gnocchi with cheese sauce of any restaurant. Now for desert, Cannolis were awesome as was the chocolate cake. Great wine list and a few select Italian beers. The prices on everything are very reasonable. This dinner on South Beach would easily cost two or three times as much. Primo's Rocks! Can't wait to go back and try the pizza which looked wonderful.

Wow. What a gem of a place. People you must go here! Pasta perfectly al dente. Recipes are to the detail on the menu. Would definitely come back. Mozzarella was so fresh as we're all the dishes. Great hidden gem.

Great Authentic Italian restaurant. Nice atmosphere with just perfect music to have a lovely dinner and AWESOME food. We strongly suggest you to try Melanzane alla parmigiana and calamari with tomato sauce. The owners are an Italian Family, very fond of their traditions and their Italian cuisine. They would guide you through your meal choices if you need it and will make you feel at a friend s house. Don t miss it. Riky & Gretel (an Italian couple)

This is my favorite restaurant in Miami. It's a diamond in the rough, nestled into a dark, nondescript strip mall. The decor inside, however, is cozy with pictures of Italian landmarks on the walls, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra singing, and enough wine on the racks to ensure your get-together will be a good one. I've eaten here 6 or 7 times now and the food is always delicious. It's run by a family and you're treated as such; tonight I was greeted like an old friend by many staff members. Specials are ever-changing and offer something for everyone. My favorites are the crostini appetizer with fresh pomodoro sauce, chicken saltimbocca, gnocchi bolognese, and mushroom ravioli. I didn't know how good ricotta could be until I had it here with a meatball. Bring your friends and family. Everyone will be happy.

I don't know what else to say but this is by far THE BEST REAL ITALIAN RISTORANTE IN MIAMI!!! THEY ARE FROM ITALY NOT ARGENTINA... Nothing against Argentina but this is the REAL ITALIAN FOOD. Authentic Italian food and the owners are amazing!!! I can't say enough about Primo's!!!

My husband and I recently went to Primo for a great italian meal! We ordered the Prosciutto Di Parme E Burrata for an appetizer, it was fabulous! The prosciutto was very lean and the burrata was creamy and moist. My husband ordered the eggplant special and I had the veal marsala. He said his meal was fantastic, and I can say my marsala was very good. I personally would have thought it perfect with just a little less onions. We had espresso and cappuccino, my husband had the homemade cannoli, and I had a fresh berry dessert, all were delicious! Service was terrific and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We would definitely return to this restaurant!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
