3.5 unlabeled from the street, known for pan con lechon $5. definitely nice juicy pork meat, but few things that could make the sandwich better -- grilled bread (currently soft but needs something), more spice (current spread a little weak even though we asked for spicy), and more pieces of chicharron in it.

Ok, so for those of you who don't know this place, here are some helpful tips: 1. Come with an open mind. The place is a dive and proud of it, but they serve the best Pan Con Lechon you've ever had the privilege of tasting. 2. Drive slowly or you'll miss it. Even those of us who have been coming here for years have a hard time getting in and out of this place, as parking is next to impossible during lunch hours. The lot is beyond tiny, and your only way out is to reverse back onto the street. 3. Bring cash. As a genuine hole in the wall, no plastic is accepted. 4. If you're one of the few non-spanish speakers in Miami, learn some spanish. At the very least, practice the phrase "Dame uno con cebolla y picante". Check your preconceived notions about Allapattah establishments at the (nonexistent) door. Yes, it's dingy and questionable, but this spot will have you coming back again and again. For first-timers the journey will have you feeling like you're searching for El Dorado (no, not the furniture store), but once you find it, you'll agree with my impressions of it. For years I failed to realize that this little pork paradise even had a name, but when I learned it I was finally able to sing its praises. I'm willing to bet you will, too. PS: If you find yourself as eager to scarf down the sandwich as I usually do, you can find the dining area down the hall to the right of the counter. They have about six tables in there, as well as restrooms. I wouldn't recommend using them, but they're available for emergencies should the need arise.

  • Alex L.

I agree with most of the reviews. My boss introduced me to this "hole in the wall" and wow! Best pan con lechon in Miami by far!! pkg is tricky n they close early thats why I'm not giving it 5 stars. If u blink you'll miss it so drive slow but you gotta go. Make a pit stop before going on a road trip. Your family n friends will thank u all the way to Disney :-)

  • Claudia M.

Delicious !!but the place it's in very bad shape and not clean at all I have to clean a table myself to eat there (and let's see how my body will be take it) ,rude unfriendly employees if do you ask for something they treat you like dum c'mon first time there how may I know sizes

Hidden gem that has the best pan con lechon (pork sandwich) that you've ever tasted. Try them out. It stand on an old structure but man can they roast that pig! Go get it.

  • Gabriel C.

Best pan con lechon in Miami. Fresh bread and fresh pork. Delicious.

Over a year ago this place is going from bad to worse...it is very sad. chicharron flavor is not the same. clearly the owner told the ladies who work there to 'not put much chicharron'!!... it is ridiculous the amount of chicharron that they serve. I just to love this place not anymore.

  • Caro D.

Legitimate Pan con Lechon and Batido de Mamey. The best way to approach Papo is to get your entire work cohort together - let's say 4 people per whole cuban bread-long sandwhich (or sangwhich, if you're feeling more brode en esta dia), then CALL THEM and send two people to go fetch your pan con lechon order - one guy with all the cash to buy the actual thing and the other guy to sit in the car and fight people for parking. You can order individual sandwhiches, sure - but you can also order entire loaves of cuban bread stuffed with lechon, and share them, which is so clearly the right answer, I wouldn't even consider anything less.

  • Marcus Z.

I went to this place for a quick lunch after reading all the good reviews. And of course I ordered the pork sandwich. The sandwich is very simple and delicious overall, but some flaws. I don't really like the bread, it is very dry kind like a paper, I wish they could toast it. The red sauce they put on the pork tastes great but they tend to put a lot on it which makes my sandwich a bit salty. The sandwich is very simple, just pork, sauce and bread, but for 6 dollars, I am really happy. Oh by the way, cash only.

  • Abbey G.

The pan con lechon is AMAZING! The pork could not have been more perfect as it has the right amount of moisture and crispy crunch. This place is a Miami institution. It's been here for years and the staff has remained the same. It's a favorite amongst locals and you will always find regulars sitting around the outside bar. If you are in the area, be sure to stop in, it's quite a treat. One bite with transport you to someone's abuelas cocina in Havana. They start slow cooking the pork at 3:00 AM everyday to ensure perfection. Prices are very reasonable. If you want local Cuban Miami flair, this is where you will find it.

Pan con todo! Love this place. Piccadillo is my favorite. My husband likes the arroz con pollo. Go with A bannana shake for desert

    (4)
  • Lissete D.

The pan con lechon is good and the prices are fair. The bread is good but the sandwich itself is very bready. We were debating as to whether it was too little meat or too much bread and we concluded that it was too much bread. Although, a bit more meat wouldn't be a bad thing. Next time, I'll try pressing the sandwich on a grill at home to squish it a bit. Parking is a pain. No matter what time you get there. We stopped in at 10 AM on a Sunday to grab a sandwich to take to a game and the lot was full. Folks were having their pan con lechon for breakfast. I stay in the car and let my husband go up and order. The ladies that work there don't seem to like waiting on females. It's a roadside stand in a not so hot area, but that pan con lechon is good!

    (4)
  • Bill W.

They do Pan con Lechon perfectly. Make sure to get with extra hot sauce and little bits of chicharon. The parking is very limited, and if you want something entertaining to do at lunch time, stay around and watch people navigate in and out of the lot! It's best to take it to go, but seating is available, and you can just hang out along the side where a short wall provides a place to sit. But here, it's all about the cuban bread and the pork. It's simply the best you'll find.

  • Pat G.

Hands down the best "pan con lechon" in Miami. I've been coming here for almost 30 years and they never disappoint. The faces change on occasion but the food stays the same. Definitely worth the trip into the hood for this fantastic pork sandwich. When ordering make sure you ask for chicharron as well. My only complaint is it's "Cash only" and they are only open for lunch; closes around 5.

  • William V.

Ok so imagine my utter disappointment to find that Papo Llega y Pon is no longer at Marlins Park. I was actually looking forward to eating their pan con lechon more than the game. This place has without a shadow of a doubt the most delicious pork sandwich I've ever had. The Allapattah location is a dive, no doubt, but just sit in your car and enjoy. I promise you wont be disappointed.

  • Sabrina Anna C.

Dear Papo Llega y Pon, I was really torn on how many stars to give you, so I erred on the side of niceness and rounded up to 5. I did not have the full blown experience as I did not come here myself. The sandwich was brought to me today for lunch, picked up fresh by one of the resident's of the community I manage. I couldn't wait to tear into my sandwich as he described how you cut the pork right off of the bone and then it gets torn up into the sandwich, how the bread is baked fresh and how the mojo is probably a secret recipe. OMG, first, even though it is Good Friday, I had to eat your sandwich. I KNEW this was not one to miss you. Second, my mouth is watering right now as I think back to 4 hours ago when I ate the sandwich... The pork was so tender and flavorful and the bread was as soft and as fresh as I have had in a long time. I remember trying your sandwiches at the Marlins Stadium and I am so glad to have had the pleasure to have you once again. Looking forward to making the adventure over here and checking you out for myself. For now, I'll just be grateful to have eaten your yummy goodness today. Many blessings, SabrinaAnna*

  • Michelle C.

This hole in the wall was non-stop packed today but I can see why... Their pan con lechon is da bomb! It was worth the wait. There was some chaos between the construction work near the kitchen, and the staff giving us back the wrong change. But the tender meat and mango icee made me forget all about it. Expect no menus here and a very small parking lot.

  • Christian B.

I used to go all the time. Used to be the best pork sandwich with chicharron. Amazing. It was like gods from olympo had sex and someone put it in a sandwich. But in the last year everything went really bad. The place is dirty. Full of flyes. Flavor not the same. Pork has no flavor. Before you will see the lines of people waiting. I will drive all the way from Miami lakes to go there. Now even if I'm in the area will go there anymore. Is sad. Hopefully the make some changes.

I usually don't write reviews but this place is legit, I wanted pan con lechon the minute I got off of the plane and after a four day wait I found this place and was amazed.

Besssst pan con lechon ever! I grew up in AP so this is basically home to me. I've tried pan con lechon in various locations but no one gets it right like these people!!!! It's it cash but whoooo cares it is most definitely worth it!!!! I'm so craving this right now

  • Marc S.

Probably my favorite cuban dish in miami, and I'm not a big fan of cuban food. This is where its at!! A pork sandwich with mojo on cuban bread. Usually cuban food is not so flavorful kind of boring but mojo is one of the exceptions - they did right with this one! Great combination, very tasty, nice fatness of the pork with the unique mojo flavor of sour orange and lime and stuff, nice contrast.

  • Wilbur C.

As awesome as the pork sandwiches are in this place, don't overlook their pan con bistec sandwich either, it is equally as good. I've come by here several times in the afternoon, and usually have a pork sandwich with picante sauce and onions or a pan con bistec with lettuce, tomato, onions, and durkee potato stix, always wash it down with mamacitas jugo de pina. There are some fierce looking women brandishing meat cleavers and machetes behind the counter, so don't piss mamacita off.... LOL, seriously though, this is the kind of place that reminds me of central or south america, just drive up, walk up to the counter and place your order, take it with you or eat at the counter if there is room! Love this place for lunch, but it does get really busy.

  • Javi S.

I just want to follow up with another 5 stars. Papa seems to always be great. I took a friend for lunch on Saturday and he was super pleased with his pork sandwich. As always, fresh, soft Cuban bread filled with tender, yet crunchy, and flavor-filled pork..... Yummmmmm

    (5)
  • Amy G.

Best pan con lechón ever. If u have a party if 2 or more get the flauta de lechon. It's an entire Cuban bread loaf with pork. Enjoy.

  • Kristen H.

This place has the best pork sandwich by FAR. This lechon lover was very happy, as were my friends visiting from out-of-town. They even gave me a side of some super delish mojo to put on my sandwich. Top that off with a bag of fresh mariquitas and I was in heaven. Ohhhh yeahhhh! The only downside for me was that some of the crispy bits weren't crispy :(. Regardless, the flavor was great, amaaazing, in fact! The staff was friendly, patient, and helpful. My friends and I shared that giant lechon sandwich, and my friends could not stop talking about how good it was! In fact, one of them mentioned having a craving for it months later :). By the way, don't be afraid to eat in the back room. It looks a bit prison-like from the outside, but it's A-OK. Just a note, they close fairly early, like around 4. Sooo worth working around the hours though. Mmmmm mmm!! Hungry after some museum hopping in The District and Wynwood?! Pork lovers unite!!! To Papo Llega y Pon we shall go!!

Allapattah's best kept secret! Non-pretentious, cheap, let-your-hair-down (almost dirty... as in raunchy) spot in, yep, you guessed it, Allapattah. You probably won't run into this place unless you were suckered into going to Le Boulevard Café or if you work in the Civic Center (That's the Jackson area for you noobies). But if you are or if you do, $13 will buy you and 5 of your closest friends one of the best pulled pork sandwiches available in Miami. Dale!

  • Glenda F.

Best authentic cuban pork sandwich in miami.exactly how the street vendors in cuba make them. A must stop.and best of all this place is dirt cheap.

"Hey Buddy, come and put it down!" (Translation courtesy of Yislin C.) Note: Careful,. you're bound to miss this place. I go all out. Walk in and throw down an Alexander Hamilton ($10) + $2. What do I get?... Only the best lunch for the entire office. They grab a fresh baked Cuban Bread from the package sleeve. Cut the full bun length wise. Layer it w/ some mayo. Layer it w/ the juiciest Pork... E...V...E...R... Layer it some more w/ onion and hot sauce (will ask you beforehand). Wrap it and Put it back in the Cuban Bread package sleeve. A concealed Pan con Lechon? Yes, trouble. Oye Papo!

You want the best Pan con Lechon in the 305? This is the place! Definitely a true locals spot. Make sure and take cash because they don't take plastic. Enjoy!

This place doesn't have a sign. Luckily, there's a photo on Yelp to help us locate the building. We went here on a Sunday and they close at 2:00p.m. We arrived at 1:55p.m., just in time to try the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was tender and juicy. I love that their sandwich bread is soft and doesn't get soggy from the sauces they pour on it.

  • Katherine C.

Giving something 4stars and above to me has to be out of the park and this place has the best Pan Con lechon sandwiches I have had. Bread is fresh and soft with a crunch and the meat is juicy combined with the spice makes it great... It may not be in the best location and but a hole in the wall that I highly recommend!

  • Clarence E.

Great find, if you can find it. Don't let the lack of a sign discourage you or no menus and the emphasis of needing Spanish in your toolbox. It has authentic sandwiches. I would have preferred more crunchy chicharron in mine. I like the use of a simple floor tiles as part of the counter to identify the size of the sandwiches--small, large and whole. I take that back--the tile IS the menu--where size does matter. Enjoy.

  • Bennett R.

Most amazing pork sandwich ever. I don't even eat pork that often, but the thought of this sandwich makes me drool. So good it would make the Buddha lose his religion. It is outside, so take it to your car or go home with it. Odds are its half gone before you get anywhere.. Language shouldn't be an issue, just hold two fingers apart to show them how big you want it and you're good. I see other menu items on the wall but I don't even think they sell much else. Its that good.

  • Amber E.

hole. in. the. wall. Unless you speak spanish, don't bother. THe most important phrase you need to learn is, "pork sandwich, no onions" They are famous for the pork sandwich - fried skin and all. It is very delicious in the, "I don't want to know what I'm eating" kind of way and at $5.75 for a large portion, it can't be beat. I recently had the steak sandwich and it was almost twice as big! A good piece of steak, hot sauce, potato sticks, lettuce and tomato. $6.50 - YUM!!! They don't advertise a menu so unless you know it exists, don't bother asking. Come before noon because the line gets long. You order at an outdoor window and pay with CASH ONLY. There is a little room with booth tables to sit at, but I suggest getting it to go. The parking lot is tricky but the food is worth the hassle. If you tip big enough, you might hear a sweet chorus of 'gracias' from the ladies behind the counter. Apparently this place is quite the best kept secret because even the people who took me here and have been coming for YEARS did not know the name. It's simply known as the sandwich shop that is cash only.

  • Joshua W.

Came across this place ages ago while looking for a cafe con leche while a friend went into traffic court up the street. While its known in the community, it's not known to the fancier set over at the Beach, and New Times has touted it as the best roast pork sando in town. And it is!! Order the pan con lechon and an Ironbeer and taste a bit of Cuban heaven. And if you really want to experience Miami like a local....head over to Calle Ocho and get yourself a Banana/Coffee shake at Pinarenos Fruteria!

  • Jose V.

OK this is one of those places where you have to be a canadian tourist (open minded, friendly and a little adventurous) or a die hard local. no snobs, preppies, yuppies and other forms of delusional grandiose life forms here. yup there are thugs, cops, bums working stiffs and the rest of us that Chow down here, ohh and the ocassional flies. The pan con lechon is the best, the adobo mojo mix is explosive, the pork cracklings add the finish its just plain great spanish carribean food treasure. the place looks a little less for wear but it makes up for it with hot fresh fare. 10 for sure.

  • John L.

Honestly it's a travesty that this place (I've been there dozens of times and I never knew the name) is on Yelp. It's crowded enough as is, and there are only so many places in Miami that are really this good and special. There is nothing to talk about menu-wise, they only have the one thing. You could get it with or without pork skin, or with more or less sauce/hot sauce. If they added a pickle inside I'd give up and camp out in their parking lot. In closing, I want to see a TV special where the big ladies at Papo Llega go head to head w/ Masaharu Morimoto in a double-cleaver chop showdown... Papo's girls are no joke chopping up that pork.

  • Patty C.

Yummmm for a good ol' fashion "pork sandwish" this is the place to go. The parking is the pits but thats not bad it is well worth it. Also try there chi-cha-ritas home made. Lots of flavor and casual ambience this is a great lunch spot.

  • Lala V.

5 stars for the pan con lechón and chicharrones, which are the only things I've tried. Been here twice and LOVE IT. It's simple, cheap good eats. Both times I've gone, its been packed and there's been more men than women, definitely not a bad thing! They have a small little room in the back for dine in (which still means eating your pan con lechón out of the paper wrapping) in the comfort of a/c. Comes with or without onions and what tastes like crystals hot sauce - I get extra hot sauce on mine ;)

  • Lauren T.

Good find. The only way to hear about this place is word of mouth cause there is no sign and no website. For 22$ we got an entire loaf of cuban bread filled with lechon, chicarrones, onions and hot sauce. Mariquitas, or plantain chips, a mamey milkshake, guanabana juice and a media collada or cuban coffee. All of that for 22$. You must have GPS and it helps to have seen these picks beforehand to find the place. I love a good hole in the wall. Helps to speak spanish. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the sandwich could've had more pork, it was too much bread to pork ratio.

    (4)
  • Jay H.

Hell yeah. I discovered this place during a random bike ride through Allapattah, and would otherwise probably never know it existed. People were lining up for pan con lechon, and I was on a hunt for some nice, local flavor. It's inconspicuous to say the least; I didn't even see a sign. The lady behind the counter was very welcoming and down to earth. As a first timer, I figured it'd be best to go with the sandwich, as it seems to pretty much have developed a cult following. Wow. These guys know their pork. They offer a unique take on the Cuban sandwich, not quite like the standard. The bread is left soft and puffy, rather than pressed and slightly greasy. And instead of using shoestring potato strings to provide crunch, they actually throw some straight up chicharron (pork skin) in there. The flavors are absolutely outstanding. Papo Llega Y Pon is a hidden gem in one of Miami's most interesting neighborhoods.

Alfredo G. is absolutely right. The pan con lechon is the truth. It's so good. I prefer it with the hot sauce (I think it might just be Frank's Red Hot), but it's just amazing without. The chicharrones are an absolute beast also, maybe better than the sandwiches. Super crunchy and porky.

Good pork sandwich, could stand to be less chopped up to show some texture in the meat. Parking lot poorly designed.

Based on previous reviews, I was expecting more. I slept late, skipped breakfast and drove from north dade to pickup 2 large sandwiches at $5.50 ea. (1 for now and 1 for later). Turned out I needed both for now. The roast pork is hand chopped to the point of having been in a food processor with the onions and crispy skin. I love the skin addition. I ordered no picante (hot sauce) since I didn't know what they used so I could use my own (Crystal). I judge Cuban restaurants by their roast pork and this was rather flat and the quantity of meat was small. I discarded the top half of both sandwiches and put them together to make one. The lady at the register was very helpful and very polite.

the best pork sandwiches you will EVER have!!! no waiters, crappy little tables on the side, horrible parking situation during rush hrs., you have to order at the counter (sometimes in Spanish!)... but in the end none of that will matter! it's always crowded & the reason is the AMAZING PORK SANDWICH!

The building is nondescript. Set back several feet from the property line to make room for a parking lot that's nearly impossible to get in and out of, it's not something that would look out of place in Piñones (Loaiza, PR). But this is not Piñones. It's Allapattah, baby! You won't find alcapurrias, piononos, or pasteles here. What you will find is one of the best (if not the best) pan con lechones (pork sandwiches) in all of Miami-Dade County. Finely chopped and garnished with onions and/or "picante" (hot sauce), the tender pieces of freshly roasted pork are served on soft, warm Cuban bread that compliments the signature pieces of "pellejito" (pork skin) beautifully. Eat it at the counter or enjoy your sandwich in one of the several tables available inside "El Salon Familiar". Wash it down with a variety of juices, milkshakes, and/or a cold Presidente (the obvious choice). Your taste buds will thank you profusely. Although the pan con lechon is the sandwich of choice in this establishment, the pan con bistec (steak sandwich) is not to be slept on. Bring a friend, ask for both, cut 'em in half and share. It might be difficult to decide which is better.

The best pork sandwich I've had in a while. They chop up the pork and chicharron so so so fine that you never wind up with a gnarly piece of anything to wrangle with. A bit of onion and hot sauce and you're in heaven. they don't have a sign, so take a look at the pic of the place it's the only way you'll find it. They also don't have a menu, so just talk to the kind ladies who work there and they'll get a good order together for you, just make sure you speak spanish. I think I'm gonna go back today for another "flauta" hhmmm, delicious.

Pork, pork, and more pork. Thats it that is all they serve and they serve it well. When i first came here i thought no way I'm going to eat here. To my surprise this is one good pork sandwich. you can get a whole loaf of cuban bread with pork onions the works for what ten dollars. when im in the area and hungry I will break my diet for one of these pork sanwiches....
