Since I moved to DC, I would crave pastelitos. And it appears that you can only get this pastry in Miami!!! I use to eat them in High School all the time. However, coming to this bakery was the first time I ate a pastelito right out of the oven. It was so incredibly good! Not too sweet, but just right. We purchased a few other pastries from here and everyone enjoyed it. I would definitely come here again next time I'm in town.

IF YOU ARE IN MIAMI GO HERE NOW. VAYA! Park on the street just past Yisell's (sign does NOT say Karmen-YELP change the name!) on the left side by the clinic. The meter has been broken for years and tickets are a pain to write in English from a horse (trust me). For $10 buy Cuban Bread (sweet and huge) Beef empanadas (she will fry them fresh if you have a few minutes), Guava pastries and have a cafe con leche (ask for it without sugar so it is only VERY sweet). I always tip the counter help as we pay DOUBLE elsewhere. Although they no speaky Ingles, the older lady who is ALWAYS behind the counter understands pointing, nodding, finger numbers and will write your $$ total on a pad. No, she didn't do the math wrong. It is JUST that cheap (.60 cents per pastry). The tres leches and flan are creamy and deliciously authentic and the croquettes as fat and crumby as my Latin nanny. If you don't understand anything I just said (in other words you are American/Gringo) just order the list. Trust me, locals, it is worth the drive. Visitors-Tourists-Countrymen-GO HERE NOW on your way from the airport to Brickel, South Beach, the Key, the Gables and/or the Grove. I go home to Mijammy once a month and Yisell's is STOP 1. Pass by tourist spots closer to 37th Ave. and go to this very local, very un-chic gem. And while you are there-walk down the street (follow the noise and cigar smoke) to see the old folks play dominoes and chess. If you look touristy enough, they may let you play. OK?? Ohh Kay!! ~SHD

Ok...I like the pastries here - but this place is no longer called Karmen...the name is Yisell Bakery & Cafeteria. The owner said she bought the bakery from Karmen two years ago - the name is updated outside - but just not here on Yelp. :-) Ok..;for details....their pastelitos are delicious - although, the other bakery with the same name provides more beef in their pastelitos. The appearance is a bit drab - but the service is professional and polite.

marvelous cuatro leches -- very milky, moist, tasty, perfect amt of dulche de leche also had the flan de guayaba (don't see it all the time) this one a little more firm than I like but nice to have a different flavor.

Fantastic find (I was 100 feet away and would never have found without Yelp). It's now labelled simply "bakery". Picked out 5 pastries and paid $3 cash all-in. Tremendous value. Since there's not much in the way of seating, I took them 1 block west to a clean (!) McDonalds, where I bought a ginormous iced coffee with caramel for $1.39. Pretty insane sugar high (more than enough for 2) for under $5. If I'm in the area again I'd totally go out of my way to load up here, and expand my horizons beyond the guava/cheese I focused on today.

The pastelitos are so good! Fresh, warm and flakey batter! We had the pastelitos de guava so sweet and delicious. Fresh bread is also made here and they do custom cakes!

It's actually now named "Yisell Bakery", new management. It's a great little spot where you can order sandwiches and best of all pastries for a cheap price. I ordered 2 guayaba pastries and it cost $1.20. I said give me about $7 worth instead and she gave me 12. Needless to say my family is very pleased and my belly loves the pastries. Clean environment, friendly, cool, and very satisfied.
