Want to eat at a hole in the wall that gives you good authentic Cuban food? Then this is your spot! The coffee is potent like proper Cuban coffee should be! Definitely have a cafecito or a cafe con leche. I am a huger fan of bistec a callabo which is a steak and egg dish. Their steak is pretty good and authentic thin sliced. The eggs, well, you can't really mess that up. A must try if you want good Cuban food.

This is a touristic place, for me. The waitress was absolutely not smiling, and was not helpful. The food is not bad not great. I would not recommend the pub. The restrooms were not clean.

Walking in to a Cuban restaurant in little Havana, you would expect some good cafe con leche and good homestyle Cuban food, but this place plays the part, but disappoints 100%.. Food was bland, service (for lack of a better word) sucked, bathrooms were doodoo, literally. Never again.

I was looking for a good and authentic Cuban food and by a local Cuban living in Miami recommendation I ended it up here, portions are big and super delicious. My moms friend owns a Cuban restaurant, and her wheat smoothie is amazing, I was looking for one like hers and I found it!! Super good!!! I love the food in this place

I tried to eat at El Pub this morning. I have lived in Miami for 45 yrs and have seen El Pub forever but never gave it shot. So sorry I did. The six of us sat down at a table - no one sat us. We requested menus from two different servers, both of which looked miserable, for over 15 minutes and never got them. Finally I stood up and got my own menus. After trying to hail down the two waitresses which blew us off I finally got up and left. Went across the street to El Cristo. That was great. FYI - shortly after we sat at El Cristo another party of 3 that was also sitting at El Pub walked in because they were fet up with the lack of service at El Pub. Unbelievable this place still exists. 30 minutes of my life I will never get back. That God the food and service across the street made up for it.

On a whirlwind tour of South Florida, we spent the day in Miami. Before we left town we had to see Calle Ocho and Little Havana. Everything here gets great reviews but we chose El Pub. What a great choice. The waitress was so friendly, the atmosphere so unique, and the customers so local. I had the busted palomillo and my guest each samples traditional Cuban faire. We loved the walk up window that was dishing espresso, Cuban coffees, and $1 cigars. Come here if you want traditional Cuban kitchen grub and get the tostones, frijoles negros, Cuban sandwich, or any of their desserts.

Worst cuban food I've ever had in my life. Black beans - soggy and tasteless. No seasoning, onions or any flavor infused in them. Rice - tasteless souless mush....not even salt could help. Breaded Steak topped with cheese (milanesa) - they seem to used CHEAP sliced cheese because i had the outline of the 6 squares since they didnt even melt it right. ....it looked like white little cesars cheese...effing gross. The steak was BY FAR the worst quality ever and the breading used it tasteless and wayyy too thick....i literally ate like 25% of a meal i eat 100% of allll the time. This place is usually empty every time we swing by and now we know why. They have paper signs with holiday schedules months old and the place is just worn down and dirty. Management doesn't seem to care about this place at all and probably just stays open with the rush of non Hispanic people here from cruises and tours that have no idea what good Cuban food is. If you want good cuban food eat at Exquesito down the block across from Azucar ice cream.

I'm surprised by some of the bad reviews but I suppose that's the difference between a local and an Angelino who was visiting Miami. I was visiting from Los Angeles where the city is known more for Mexican dishes than Cuban. I had asked one of the locals where I can find a good Cuban spot in Little Havana and she recommended El Pub. By far exceeded my expectations!! I've had some Cuban food in Los Angeles, but no comparison to El Pub. I had their Cuban sandwich and arroz con pollo. Mouth watering! I am not a fan of pork, but that Cuban sandwich made me a pork lover.

This was the first place my family and I stopped to eat during our trip to Miami and WOW ! It was so much more then we expected ... We just so happen to be in the area and My parents decided to stop by, I wasn't expecting much and I was blown away ! I ordered a "café con leche" and it was the best coffee I've ever had ! & yes I've had Cafe Du Mond's coffee and this was 10 times better ! I also order the "pan con Lechon " and it was also amazing ! The bread was crispy and buttery and had a great crunch. The Lechon was juicy and soft and the melted cheese was just the cherry on top . My family equally enjoyed their meals. It was so good we came back the next day hahaha cons: the service is a little slow.

Cuban spot focused more on sandwiches and coffee than full on Cuban cuisine. Obviously the location makes it a bit touristy, but the food is authentic and appropriately priced. El caldo gallego was alright, good enough to cure a hangover but nothing to write home about. Service was great, along with the clientel, definitely the most authentic part of the experience. A star just for old Cuban men, coladas and tradition. Given the great number of options within walking distance I'd say try someplace else.

Came here on a food tour. It's been here for 52 years filled with history and culture. We enjoyed empanadas de picadillo. So tasty! We also had the stuffed tostones con pollo first time I've head it and I'm obsessed!

Delicious Cuban coffee and cortadito! Our waitress was so nice and took time to teach us about the different types of coffee. It was such a fun experience. We shared one special sandwich for 2 people and that was plenty! Serving size was huge, and our whole meal was $10 and change. Loved it and will definitely come back!

Very good Cuban food. Large menu all items on the menu has a really good price. I had the Small Seafood Soup which is not small at all and this soup was filled with tons of seafood, very delicious soup. I also had the "El Pub" sandwich special which was a Cuban with other types of meat in the sandwich. This was also very good. After reading all of the yelp reviews I had to try the Cuban Coffee (i'm not a coffee drinker) which was really good. They give you steamed coffee with a side of black Cuban coffee so you can make it how you like it. Totally worth the few bucks it costs. I had a good time here. The service and food was really good. Next time I'm around the area I will definitely stop by again!!!

  • Sandy R.

Enjoyed the "regular" Cuban sandwich. It was huge and delicious! And only about $5! The French fries were really good, too! Only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because it was not the cleanest place. Ladies room also had no hand soap or paper towels.

    (4)
  • Rachel R.

How does this place even remotely have 3.5 stars? Our food was more expensive than the menu, (by $10 combined on 4 meals) the food was flavorless, it was dirty, and the waitress couldn't care less that we were even there. Stay away. Especially the tamales.

I got very bad food poisoning from here and made me sick for 3 days making me not able to eat anymore in Miami and sick on the entire 12 hour drive back home. None of my friends got sick, so maybe I was the unlucky one, but I won't be going back. So I'd take it with caution if you eat here.

    (1)
  • Jennifer C.

Wow! Great and authentic food here. Portions are generous and flavorful. Check out the daily specials and you'll be sure to get a treat. The food is very inexpensive. Service isn't great, but consider it part of the authentic vibe. This is real Cuban food.

  • Mari F.

Of course all the negative reviews come from gringos who don't know the difference between un cortadito and an espresso. If you want the gringo experience at a Cuban restaurant, go to Versailles or Casa Larios.

Read some reviews and thought yeah not bad, let's run in and have a quick dinner. The roosters outside have always gotten my curiosity. The inside had a decent size dining area. Our waitress brought over mariquitas with a very nice olive oil and garlic dipping sauce. It was good. She was very nice, but as slow as a turtle. I ordered a grilled chicken dish with rice and black beans. Hubby ordered a Lamb Stew. The food came out quickly, even though our waitress never brought out any Cuban bread. My dish was good, grilled flat boneless chicken with a nice flavor to it. Slightly dry from overcooking the chicken, which made it tough to chew. The rice was OK, and the black beans were not good at all. They had bacon and fat floating around in it. Oh and beware every single dish I saw including mine coming out of the kitchen was covered, smothered, with grilled onions.....felt like I was ordering hash browns from Waffle House. Hubby could not eat his dinner. Huge piece of Lamb, in a very heavy red sauce, he took one bite and the look on his face said it all. The waitress never refilled our water glasses or came over to check on us. It took awhile to get our check. Also I do not mind old buildings, but this place was I thought a little dirty inside. I felt they could do a much better job keeping it clean. Oh almost forgot ordered a tamale to try and it was awful again it did come with grilled onions.....eeekkk..... That is my two cents. Will not be going back, much better options for Cuban food elsewhere.

This place offers home style Cuban food. It wasn't the best I've had, but still pretty good! The portions were extremely large so you definitely get your money's worth. The fried plantains as an appetizer were delicious!!

Meh, just meh! I've had much better at Las Vegas Restaurant up in Broward. I thought for sure I would get my socks knocked off here. Water and buttered bread delivered promptly. No issue there. I got a roast pork sandwich, a customer of mine got a Cuban sandwich. Both were good but nothing special. Service was decent. There are just so many choices, I would have to check out a bunch of others before coming back. * Great little feel good story from my visit here. If you have read this much, don't stop now. I had just gotten done looking at a job at the Miami-Dade county jail so the first thing I wanted to do when I got here was wash my hands. I walked into the small bathroom and was greeted by a stench I have never smelled before. Standing in front of me in one of the stalls, is an elderly man, naked from the waist down. WTF? I think to myself and probably said out loud. Well, I looked to my left toward the sink and there is, who I'm guessing is the man's adult son washing shit off the guy's pants. I just want to wash the jail off may hands and there is no room to squeeze by the poopy pants to get to the sink. Me and the son made eye contact and he could tell I just needed to get by for a second. He let me wash my hands and leave. I have had nightmares ever since!!!

Good typical no frills cuban cuisine in the heart of Little Havana on Calle Ocho. Service is always dependable and swift. I usually hit this spot for their reasonably priced cuban breakfast which consists of a healthy portion of eggs, ham, papitas, tostada, and cafe con leche. Their sandwiches are aight and typical cuban dishes are reliable. The place may be a little dumpy and not look the cleanest but it's better than a lot of the other hole in the wall joints in this area.

The breakfast food was not good at all. We were starving and we stop for a quick breakfast. Dry sausage. Overcooked bacon. Rubbery eggs. Service was fast and gentle and coffee was good.

  • Isis A.

The spot across the street ran out of Cuban sandwiches so here we came... The sandwiches ordered (Cuban y Media Noche) were cold on the inside, cheese not all the way melted, had to ask for papas fritas and homegirl at the bar had an attitude the entire time... Especially when we had to ask to have her heat the actual sandwiches. So she threw them on the grill but with words under her breath. Considering it was the only thing we wanted on our trip down to Little Havana, it made the experience more underwhelming than the food itself. Next try maybe? I heard Andrew Zimmern came by here but I would skip it. Go to the friendly folks at El Cristo, before they run out of food since they are way more busy than this joint. They get a third star cuz the lady at the coffee bar whipped up a cafecito quick & w a smile.

The Cuban coffee is good, but then true Cuban, how could it not be good? The place is cheap and sort of looks it too, but maybe the general unkempt squalor is meant to add ambiance and charm. I'd like to think so, but if so, it falls somewhat short on both counts. There isn't much doubt in my mind that it is in dire need of a general sprucing up. I'm no expert on Cuban cuisine and I'm reluctant to say that I've had a better elsewhere since El Pub is located in the heart of Little Havana, but I have. I found it to be OK, but really can't award stars beyond the point of a passable OK on it. Frankly, everything I had sort of had more of a truck stop than a diner flavor to it.

Ate there after the Marlin game Monday evening. I was in town vacationing, and wanted to experience some real Cuban food. I found this place first on Yelp, then on the way to the ballgame, without telling the cabbie what I had found on Yelp, he said to go to El Pub, so that decided it! I was not disappointed. The skirt steak was one of the juiciest and flavorful I've had. As an appy I had shrimp stuffed plantains. Awesome as well. A local place , with friendly staff. Go, experience, enjoy!

Cubano special. It was o.k. Sandwich must have been a foot long. Cut into three pieces. Our server was very nice. There are two separate dining rooms. We ate inside by the counter. Felt more like where the essence of the place was. Located in Little Havana.

I was getting a coffee at the sidewalk window, looked in and thought this place looks pretty scary. Don't think I would venture inside. Don't think I will be back for café, not very good.

When I lived in Key West (~15 years ago), we would drive up to Miami on the weekends and we would always stop in at the Pub for a meal. It was always so delicious! Well.. things have changed. We stopped in while visiting Miami this weekend, and everything was pretty blah. I was so excited to have a good Cuban sandwich. I was expecting juicy, tasty meat. I got DRY bland meat on hard bread. I was starving, and I seriously only at a quarter of this sandwich. Coffee was also blah. Our waitress was helpful and fast. The buttered Cuban bread was delicious. I don't think this will be on our to-do list in Miami anymore.

This was my first time to Miami, so I'm sure I engaged in many touristy activities, but we randomly drove to Little Havana without any kind of plan. However, when I saw a six foot tall statue of a chicken out front of this place, I figured this place had to be pretty legit. Nothin' fancy, just a straight-up locals kind of place where you can get a great cafe con leche and sandwich for less than ten bucks. Great people watching (most are over 65) if you sit at the counter, and you can watch the guy make sandwiches all day long right in front of you. We ordered pretty standard Cuban fare, and it was just as I expected: local, authentic, simple, and delicious. All I needed was a cigar and Papa Hemingway and I would have been perfectly content.

This was my go-to breakfast place the entire time I was pregnant. The best croquetas de jamon (ham croquettes) in Miami. Always crispy on the outside and warm on the inside, not like the floppy birthday party ones. We kept coming after our baby was born, until, well, the grossness factor won out against my pregnancy hormones' need for those croquetas. Eggs were grayish, runny and inconsistent. Plates, silverware, etc. were dirty, bathrooms never had soap. Don't ever examine the floors or put your elbows on the table. And try not to look when the cook comes out of the kitchen. It is charming, however, to see your server doing her red nail polish at a table in the back while you wait to order your coffee, or argue with you that her manually calculated math on the bill is correct while yours is not. You're in Miami--Little Havana, Miami, no less. This is what you came here for. Tip #1: Bring a baby so you can get more attention and maybe some faster service. Tip #2: If you're an American tourist, don't order the "hash browns" thinking you're going to get a steaming pile of freshly grated potatoes. You will be getting McDonald's brick o' hash. This is true of any Cuban restaurant, however. You never know with El Pub. You might get served in five minutes or five hours, but the croquetas and stories you come out with will always be incredible.

El Pub, at 1548 SW 8th st is hands-down disgusting. like, without a doubt. there are few restaurants in the world that i'd say that i would absolutely never set foot in again, and this is one of them. we ordered: arroz con pollo (that came with a far-grosser-than-campbells chicken noodle soup [noodles were beyond mushy and gelatenous, broth was sickeningly salty]) - the chicken was just plain awful and the rice was cold, hard, greasy and flat-out embarrassing. cubano: it was ok. it certainly wasn't so great, but it was far better than anything else we had. lamb stew: i didn't try it but my friend said it was awful as well. and this guy eats lamb like no one i've ever seen. food trucks, food carts, 5* restaurants....he eats it anywhere. and couldnt eat it here. tamale: somehow they managed to put grease into this as well. and it was served, inexplicably, with the insides of their "maximum cubano" sandwich (or whatever they call their cubano with salami and pepperoni) laid out next to it. looked as if the "chef" put the meat, cheese, and pickles down on the tamale plate as he went to look for a loaf of bread, only when he returned with the bread for his meat, our waitress had taken the plate to our table, leaving poor "chef" without all the meat he had just sliced up and laid out in a line for his bread.... just an awful dining experience.

Had a great lunch at El Pub. As another reviewer said, the cafe con leche was incredible. It came as espresso with steamed milk on the side, so you can mix it according to your taste. The food here is basic delicious Cuban fare. We started with plantain chips and garlic. Interesting combination... I hadn't had that before. I had the shrimp w garlic sauce and salad. Really good, if a little rich. My friend had the bean soup and grouper w onions. Her fish was so delicious. If I lived in Miami, I would look forward to eating here regularly.

I'll start off with the positive: their pollo a la plancha, Moros y maduros is excellent. Your cholesterol score will shoot up 500 points and you'll gain 30 pounds just from looking at the food, but it's perfect for either dinner after Viernes Culturales (Calle 8 art walk) or just a late dinner after work. Their flan is great as well, as is their staple Cuban breakfast of Cafe con Leche and Cuban Toast (pan con mantequilla). The wait staff is very friendly, and it's fun to hear los viejitos with their conversations on Old Cuba. The piano player they sometimes have at night is cool as well. That being said, the bathrooms are disgusting! The cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired.I also agree with one of my fellow Yelpers concern about the kitchen being open to the parking lot and cleanliness. I even saw a roach in the dining room once. While the old Cuba décor is kitschy cute, I think it should be updated or at least cleaned a little better.

  • Rolando R.

Highly overrated spot overall in my opinion BUT they make the best authentic pan con bistec in Little Havana. Everyone else seems to use the wrong bread (cuban bread from Publix or something) or the steak is really tiny & extremely thin (I'm looking at you El Cristo).

Went on Saturday morning and unfortunately the service was pretty bad. We had to wave her over several times as she would leave and sit at the counter chatting and rolling silverware in napkins. I asked her if I could have my eggs scrambled with turkey instead of ham or bacon, she said it was not possible. I asked her if they could possibly use the turkey (key ingredient) from their Elena Ruth sandwich she just said no. Would of been nice if she could have asked the kitchen. I was offering to pay additional for it. One thing though, Cuban Coffee was good (but really how can you mess this up). That was about it. The place is dingy and needs loving. I am of Cuban decent but don't eat beef or pork. It's nice to have options. There are better Cuban restaurants, so will not return here.

Was driving around aimlessly around central Miami on a Saturday morning looking for a good breakfast This place had a bunch of old folks sitting outside so it got my attention + it is right down the street from Maximo Gomez Park and I wanted to dominate some octogenarians in "bones" The place is exactly what you think it should look like Walls covered with murals and posters of Cuba Half the tables are wobbly but that's cool 'cause it makes eating a game of skill I had the "El Pub" breakfast that consisted of a plate-sized palomilla, eggs, fries or hash browns, cuban toast and cafe con leche for $6.95 The steak was delicious but the eggs could have been cooked a bit longer for me Service is excellent the food is cheap Done

Food was great and service was very good as well. I had the lamb which is not available every day (chilindron or something like that). Small but authentic. Reasonable prices. Make sure to say hello to the owner who seems to be hanging around.

It's painful and difficult to write this review. I celebrated my graduation from UM with my family here at El Pub. My grandfather and father were personal friends of the owner since his early restaurateur days in Cuba. My family orderedThanksgiving turkeys and Christmas pigs for years from this family operated restaurant. It's a shame that the people around the owner of this one time excellent restaurant would let it waste away the way they have. There was once great pride in what is a Little Havana landmark. At least clean the place and wipe the grease smeared menus. If you ate here before 2005, or at El Exquisito when it was owned by the original owner, it's painful to walk into El Pub and experience what it has become. This restaurant represents the Little Havana community and Cuban-American culture to many tourists. Someone please do something!

Signature place to stop by for a Cuban coffee, i.e., "colada". Very festive, right in the middle of Little Havana. Cuban men playing dominos in the park right next door! Take a photo with the large roosters. I need to return to try lunch or dinner.

It was an okay restaurant. We had the carne Asada, which good. The portions were huge. My husband had the lamb dish, I don't know exactly what it was called, but it was okay. The best was the coffee. The server was nice, but I probably would not go back.

El Pub is the place to be for authentic, well-priced Cuban food in the heart of Little Havana. Breakfast is delicious but the bread is sometimes drenched in a little too much butter. The orange juice is a must if you are there for breakfast because it is freshly squeezed and will be the most expensive thing you order! The eggs and hash browns are delicious. Dinner at El Pub is also great and the chicken and yellow rice dishes are all delicious. I love the pepper chicken with rice and beans or the snapper dish, which is also delicious. So many tasty flavors and a very friendly staff make this place my go to Cuban when in Miami.

I was here with my spanish club from school. They put several tables together for us to eat at one long table, and then they served delicious food. The owner talked to us and was grateful to have us. I only wish I could have went more often and explored Calle Ocho further. P.S. the flan was muy bien!

It loses a star because it's a little old looking which is fine, but the bathrooms are war zones. The food is outstanding and very well priced. The churrasco is unbelievable. Cuban food done well. We came here three times when we stayed in SoBe, so... Nice table service. From the bread, to the rice to the beans to the plantains...the flan is great too. Very pleasing, I'm sure many in this area have restaurants they swear by...this is the one for me. PS They're very easy to find, just look for the big rooster outside the place.

This place has a charm in Little Havana like no other. Heliodoro Coro who has been running this restaurant for decades and now at the age of 85 years old still makes the Cuban Sandwiches every morning, you can't get more local and can absorbe the Old Cuban inspired atmosphere here at el Pub. An old Cuban institution serving traditional dishes. Every Saturday we visit at the Little Havana Walking Food Tour this very charming establishment and the patacones with chicken and picadillo we serve our attendees are always a hit (which we choose those items because they are home made and outstanding!)

It's like a Cuban diner/Denny's type... Good Cuban place that has been around for a long, long time. Food is good for the price with large portions. The service is friendly and attentive. It is close to home and open late so I visit often.

  • Dan B.

Don't let the cheesy roosters fool you, this place is the real deal concerning Cuban food. No shitty little La Carretta here. You'll get great coffee, great portions, and tasty authentic food. On my last visit, I started with a cafesito and a pile of the hottest and yummiest Cuban bread I've had in a while. They also give you little plantain chips with a delicious garlic dipping sauce. I ordered a Cuban sandwich with a side of moro and yuca. I know, I was hungry. The sandwich was as tasty as it was monstrous. It's been a while since I've eaten a Cuban sandwich. If you ever try a Cuban sandwich in a city other than Miami, you will immediately realize that a Miami Cuban Sandwich is different in that the meats taste REAL and have a distinct Cuban flavor as opposed to the processed meats in other sandwiches. This sandwich was robust in size and flavor. The moro really impressed me. You could taste that overwhelming and intoxicating sensation of Cuban food in the beans. The yuca was the only thing that didn't really impress me. So, I replaced them with tostones, which were incredible.

In context to other Cuban restuarants in Miami, i must say that El Pub is barely a three. Have had lunch a couple times there and most recently this week. Good: Service was great, waitress, sat us and got our drinks very quickly and was very attentive. Price is great . Food selection was the expected with the exception of some oddities like Seso Frito or Fried Brain... Food was served fast... Bad: Food was served fast makes me believe that it was just sitting there and they just heated it up. Place needs a make over, its old and dingy. The place deserves a health inspector to snoop around. Not sure how well maintained the kitchen is. Parked in the back and there are pots and pans just hanging on the outside work nook. Nothing compares with Islas Canarias.

  • Kyle U.

I like the diner atmosphere here. In the heart of calle ocho, this place offers really good cuban cuisine for really cheap. They serve large portions here. The menu is comprised of specials that they have every day of the week. I liked the tostones, or green plantains stuffed with meat. The plantains turn into almost a bread consistency and the meat is like picadillo. The chicken soup was ok. The rice with black beans is my favorite side dish. Rock on.

Came here when on vacation. Loved the arroz con pollo. They also had great plantain chips, cuban coffee. The ambiance is way low-key and the place is full of locals, which is always a good sign in my book.

Visiting Miami we randomly drove down 8th in Little Havana until we found an interesting place to eat with outdoor seating (we ate inside), a walk up window but, I think it was the giant chickens that drew us in. The food was fine, cheap, good service, interesting area of town. I had their El Pub Cuban, I was a little dissapointed all cut up, I was expecting more of a Italian Beef or Philly type sandwich, this one was sealed up and cut but, maybe it's my lack of familiarity with the 'Cuban'. The other two people ordered a pounded fried chicked covered in onions (looked tasted great, no clue what it was called and got the black beans and rice on the side along with it (which I have to say while were talking black beans and rice it was extremely excellent). The iced tea was good as well, no strange look when I ordered un-sweetened iced tea South of Springfield. The total was $25 with drinks for 3, decent sized portions.

visiting from SF, we figured we'd hit up little havana for some local flavor. this seemed like a winner, since there were quite a few people inside and outside for sunday lunch. 4 guys, tons of food, good friendly service, great tasting food, for VERY CHEAP. i'm definitely not a cuban food connoisseur, but this place rocks . . . the only downside is i will now have to find something similar in SF.

I came here with a very large group of people for an event we were having during Viernes Culturales. By large, I mean 35-40 of us. I know how hectic and stressful that can be, but the servers kept a smile on their face and managed to be organized, friendly, and incredibly quick on service! We had such a great time here, and the food was inexpensive, delicious, and came in enormous portions. It was my first time having cuban coffee too and it was superb! I will definitely be back to El Pub Restaurant.

the place has character (AKA old and dingy), but for me 2.5. menu made up of daily entrees. very reasonably priced. some food might be reheated (more cafeteria like)

Big plates, great prices. The vaca frita was well-seasoned, and the rice and beans were pretty good. I'm not a fan of maduros, but they did a good job of it here. Brush up on your Spanish.

Good Cuban restaurant in Miami for breakfast.Very much home style food ,and cheap .Lately the few times I've been here for dinner it's been quite bad though, I don't know why , but for example , a few nights ago I ordered "Chilindron de Cordero", and it was not good ,rice was oily ,and black beans tasted pretty lame..

After a couple of cigar stops, decided it was time for lunch. Walked over to El Pub which from the get go had a real local flavor. As you walk in, there is a group of men standing around just talking and enjoying each others company drinking coffee. We proceeded to the dining area and sat down. Very old school no frills type of place, my favorite. Very reminicent of an eatery in the 50's, not that I was around but what I would imagine it would be like. Had the El Pub especial which was basically a turbo charged cuban sandwich and my wife had the roast pork. Both were excellent and definately hit the spot. The sandwich needed nothing and the pork was definately slow cooked with an accompanyment of black beans and rice and yucca. a very relaxing and laid back place perfect for me to plot my next stops.

Our dinner came out FAST and the food was delicious! The prices are fair and our service was great. I had the Cuban steak while my friend had the skirt steak. We shared the marquitas for an appetizer - the garlic & olive oil dip was amazing! Cafe con leche was delicious as well! No wonder I'm still awake at 3 AM yelping about this place. If you're in Little Havana, be sure to check this place out!

True Story: El Pub was the first American restaurant I had dinner at, upon my arrival to the States. It couldn't have been more Cuban! That's why the IDEA of El Pub gets an extra, nostalgic star from me, when the reality is closer to four stars... Or maybe 3 1/2. The place is an older sibling to El Exquisito, not just 'cause they bump shoulders in Calle Ocho- they share the exact same sensibilities in food, and I believe they shared ownership at one point, (but no quoting me on that). El Pub however gets the advantage in space and decor- kitschy Cuban countryside, familiar idyllic views of a Havana that hasn't looked like THAT in half a century, etc. As for the actual food- Have you been to La Carreta? You have? Well, then you've been to El Pub.

Best Cuban yet in my travels. Restaurant is tucked into a well-travelled and classy Cuban neighborhood, and you can park in the back. Fried plantains with garlic are brought to the table as a free appetizer. Who knew that fried fruit chips and garlic would be so good? Throw a little hot sauce on there and you're living right. EXCELLENT food. Got the roast pork dish, recommended by the waitress. Came sizzling hot on a bed of peppers and onions; the meat was tender and flavorful without being too salty. It was also at this restaurant that I discovered the humble yucca, which I have never had before but now actually dream about from time to time. If you've never had it, it's like an uber-potato... with better texture, taste and smell. We need to Americanize this thing as soon as possible people, because it would be killer next to a steak. Introduced my guest to a real Cuban coffee, as hot and sweet as can be imagined. Her eyes got really wide at first sip, and her first tiny cup disappeared quickly. If you are in Miami, with it's glut of great Cuban joints, try to make this place a stop, you won't be disappointed, (except for by the bathrooms, which were pretty bad. Not the end of the world for a dude, but I can't imagine being a lady and having to touch my body parts on anything in there.)

Last friday of every month in the evening, this is the place to be as it was packed -- at the heart of Little Havana's community event "Viernes Culturales" viernesculturales.com . Fun time to be here especially if you like art. Visit at this time instead of going to the museum. The whole fried red snapper that is served on Fridays is a bargain! UPDATE: El Cristo seems to be preferred and it's across the street! I should check that out.

Enjoyed the "regular" Cuban sandwich. It was huge and delicious! And only about $5! The French fries were really good, too! Only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because it was not the cleanest place. Ladies room also had no hand soap or paper towels.

It was an okay restaurant. We had the carne Asada, which good. The portions were huge. My husband had the lamb dish, I don't know exactly what it was called, but it was okay. The best was the coffee. The server was nice, but I probably would not go back.

Wow! Great and authentic food here. Portions are generous and flavorful. Check out the daily specials and you'll be sure to get a treat. The food is very inexpensive. Service isn't great, but consider it part of the authentic vibe. This is real Cuban food.

Delicious Cuban coffee and cortadito! Our waitress was so nice and took time to teach us about the different types of coffee. It was such a fun experience.

Of course all the negative reviews come from gringos who don't know the difference between un cortadito and an espresso. If you want the gringo experience at a Cuban restaurant, go to Versailles or Casa Larios.

Highly overrated spot overall in my opinion BUT they make the best authentic pan con bistec in Little Havana. Everyone else seems to use the wrong bread (cuban bread from Publix or something) or the steak is really tiny & extremely thin (I'm looking at you El Cristo).

Ok this place looked really run down. But the coffee kept me up for 2 days straight, I kid you not. But they really really need to work on the decor. I'm sure enough tourist come as I did. Let's clean it up a bit folks.

Didn't stay here longer than a couple of beers, but deserves mention because of the chicken statues out front. LOL

The ambiance is way low-key and the place is full of locals, which is always a good sign in my book.

visiting from SF, we figured we'd hit up little havana for some local flavor. this seemed like a winner, since there were quite a few people inside and outside for sunday lunch. 4 guys, tons of food, good friendly service, great tasting food, for VERY CHEAP. i'm definitely not a cuban food connoisseur, but this place rocks . . . the only downside is i will now have to find something similar in SF.

El Pub serves the best cafe con leche on calle ocho. It is better than crack.

I was here with my spanish club from school. They put several tables together for us to eat at one long table, and then they served delicious food. The owner talked to us and was grateful to have us. I only wish I could have went more often and explored Calle Ocho further. P.S. the flan was muy bien!

So, I replaced them with tostones, which were incredible.

the place has character (AKA old and dingy), but for me 2.5. menu made up of daily entrees. very reasonably priced. some food might be reheated (more cafeteria like)
