Excellent food! Friendly and attentive staff! If you're a foodie-the Blue Dog is a restaurant you won't want to pass up! You'll definitely want to go back and try another dish! This will be a regular place for me when I'm staying in Matlacha!

Great spot for breakfast and lunch. The coconut shrimp wrap is killer. For breakfast, try the eggs benedict on crab cakes. They sell their coffee beans, which we buy on a regular basis. Very friendly staff managed by hands owners.

Awesome. Homemade sangria was great. Ordered the coconut shrimp wrap and it was delicious. Fries were cooked to perfection.

Best seafood I've had in a while!!! I ordered the night's special and it was the stuffed salmon! AMAZING!!! I also had the green beans which were the vegetable of the night and they were so tasty! Thanks again for a great experience!!!!!

What a wonderful place! The best food we've had in Lee County! We have stayed in Siesta Key, Marco Island, Sanibel, Venice, Charlotte Harbor, the keys and now Matlacha, this is the best seafood around! Even their weekend breakfasts are delicious. You will love the staff and the owner was great guy! We ate there almost everyday because no place else compared. Try it you will be happy you did!!

When Blue Dog Bar & Grill first opened, we were not fans. Haven't been back for more than 6 months and went twice this week because it was so good! Wings, crab cake, fish & chips, steak, and soft shell crab sandwich were totally enjoyed. If you haven't been there yet, go and enjoy or if like us, you were disappointed in the early days, go back and taste the change!

Like another reviewer, we didn't care for this place when they first opened as the Blue Dog. But we've been three times in the last month and thoroughly enjoyed all our meals. Brunch one Sunday, and dinner twice. Their fried shrimp (with several preparation/sauce options) are big, fresh and perfectly cooked. Their coleslaw is one of the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is so nice compared to some of the other local seafood places in Matlacha/Pine Island. Bright, airy, with soothing color. Really inviting. (Even down to the restroom. So pretty!) I really want to see this place succeed as there aren't many good places to eat out in the area, or to take out-of-town visitors for a night out. My only criticism is that some members of the wait staff could use some finesse when handling customer issues - wrong orders, bill discrepancies, etc. (Really good service is in short supply at most area restaurants. A bunch of restaurants on Pine Island, Matlacha and Cape Coral could profit from additional "coaching/training" of their wait staffs.) All in all though, the Blue Dog is getting it right!

Sunday morning breakfast for us. Wide variety of choices made with local ingredients, so really fresh. Make your own omelet with goat cheese, tomatoes and mushrooms...mmmmm. Belgian waffle perfectly done. Breakfast burrito, 2 thumbs up. Waitress Peg was fun and you could tell she enjoys people and her job. Service was quick. Decor was fresh and cute! Will definitely visit again.

This is the former "Mulletville." I didn't hear great things about it under the previous name, although we liked the wings. Ate at "Blue Dog" today for the first time. I had the grilled fish sandwich--i'd give it four stars. My wife had the wings which she shared with me. Great hot wings with just a touch of grill marks on them--five stars. They've definitely improved the appearance of the place a great deal. The staff was very attentive--they've been open four weeks. The real test will be how they are after four months (or a year), but for now, overall, I'm giving five stars!

First Week of bright and better than ever remodel and opening of Matlacha's newest addition to the island. Menu is attractive and squarely priced mid level and economical choices. I enjoyed smothered chicken breast which arrives with cole slaw and a choice of sides. Retro diner boothes and coloring tables for the artist in you. The lunch entree was $11 and Mikes blackened grouper with a side salad was absolute perfection. Chef can make the very fresh seafood juicy and tender ! We enjoyed a couple micro brews or I PA drafts and good attentive service. Most islanders who have visited report a high degree of satisfaction and applaud the fresh new appearance. We gave four stars and believe this eatery will be hugely popular with locals and guests. Menu will expand and the specials look to be very special. Happy w our experience and we will be back.

We were a bit disappointed after reading the great reviews. The staff was very friendly & service was good but the food was only fair. The coconut shrimp wrap would have been tasteless if not for the mango salsa. One person in my party ordered the fresh Mahi Tacos and we were all surprised to see that the Mahi was deep fried! None of us had ever seen fish tacos with deep fried fish & why would anyone deep fry fresh fish?! All of the deep fried food was a bit over cooked or they need to change their frying oil. We'll try some place else the next time we go to Matlacha.

Stopped on my way to N Captiva Island, it was just delicious. The staff was fun and efficient. The chef came out to make sure the dishes were tasty. We were there during Sunday brunch so we didn't enjoy lunch, which starts at 12:30 on Sunday ... That was too bad because we were there at 12 for lunch. Nonetheless, the food was prepared fresh and was delicious.

Best restaurant in Matlacha! Meals are prepared by true chefs who care about each plate they serve. The staff is super attentive and genuine. You will dine with the locals and never be disappointed. Be sure to order whatever the 'catch of the moment' is to get the freshest local fish caught locally. Oh, and the beer on tap is nice and cold with local brews to choose from. Prices are very reasonable, too!

This place was amazing. Their coconut shrimp wrap was incredible. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was welcome, warm, and genuine. This is a place that makes me proud of my hometown.

We were visiting from Houston and decided to check this place out. Let me start by saying I've been in the service industry for years and have worked in many high end restaurants and wow! This place couldn't have impressed us more. We came in nearly at their closing time (please don't do this we hate it but there were no other options) and we were welcomed with smiles and great attitudes from the entire staff. We sat where we pleased and Elena was our server, who took care of us very very well and was very hospitable. I'm not going to review the food because we had so many things and every one of them was just great. Not one complaint. You must visit this place. My aunt even felt compelled to hug the staff on her way out. We will be back. Probably tomorrow.

Highly disappointed!!! Went for breakfast and service was extremely slow. Yes they were busy, but we sat for at least an hour and still no food. We left and will not waste time there again.

We found this place by accident, and have become big fans. Having recently been to Vegas including a visit to Gordon Ramsey's pub for a burger, we both agree that Ramsey has NOTHING on a Blue Dog burger!! Looking forward to a return trip!

All I can say really is that you have to try this place. Amazing, helpful, and very friendly staff. Fresh fish being rolled in as we were sitting down. Shrimp straight off the boat. Good, well prepared food. Lots of local beer on tap as well.

We had stopped at one of noted water view spot, but it was usual menu and crowded. We had notice the Blue Dog on our walk around and decided to give it a try. Best decision we made. The jambalaya was wonderful. My wife enjoyed the Grouper sandwich. The wait staff was fun and owner was a pleasure to talk to.

The best breakfast we had all week. Fresh and hot with excellent friendly service!! Blue Dog is a great addition to the area and will quickly become the top restaurant in Matlacha! Congrats on your successful week!!

Found this place by accident. So glad we did! The food is fantastic, fresh, local, couldn't ask for anything better. Definitely save room for the key lime pie!

I'm only giving a 3 due to lack of professionalism of wait staff. Our waitress deserves a 5, Sam,but we were having lunch with 2 kids & 1 of the other waitresses gossiping with other waitresses is behind the table dropping the "f" bomb. Another waitress comes over and says something to her & she proceeds to say no one can f'ing hear me. Beyond that the food was good. Just truly lack professionalism.

I loved this restaurant!!! A+ 100%! Not only was the food totally great, our waitress was awesome, we could draw on the paper table cloths (which is always a cute touch), but both owners came up to our table and asked us if everything was okay. They were the nicest men and they were literally running around getting everything that we needed. They even brought us two of their homemade hot sauces, which were both great, by the way. One owner talked to us for a good twenty minutes and was very accommodating and super nice. I cannot say enough as to how sweet and nice everyone who worked there was, even the hostess. My Mom had spilled something on her shirt and was buying a Blue Dog t-shirt to change into. The hostess was jumping through hoops to find her size in all of the colors she wanted to try on. I was so taken with this restaurant. I will absolutely be back. Again, A+100%!!!!

Fresh and Delish. My mullet was prepared perfectly. Can be ordered many ways. To die for. My wife's shrimps were quite tasty. Very reasonable prices too. Try it but while you are on the way please stop driving so freaking snowbird slow. The speed limit signs are the same as in Wisconsin; you don't have to subtract 10 mph from them here.

A very cool restaurant in a very cool Old Florida town. Mary was one of the best servers I've had in a while and she even helped us pronounce Matlacha correctly; mat-lah-SHAY. The High Five IPA - a local Fort Myers brew, was full-bodied but light, and IPA rhymes with Matlacha. They have a number of interesting craft beers on draft although they don't have a full liquor license. There are picnic tables outside along a creek but I recommend they put in regular restaurant tables and fill in all the seating area, along with fans. We sat inside as it was a 100 degree heat index. The Fish Tacos with Blackened Mullet was a winner. My wife did not like her Shrimp Tacos; the problem was not the portion but that the breading on the shrimp blotted out the taste. I recommend a Shrimp Tempura style. One tip is to order a side of Homemade Jalapenos. They were indeed housemade; I could tell from the crunchy electric zing they packed. The Key Lime Pie tasted homemade as well. Bravo, Blue Dog. We will meet again.

Fantastic food. The mullet and grit was so fresh! The fish tacos were very good. And key lime pie succulent. By the way the peach sangria is perfect for such a warm weather. Julie waited on us and is very nice! Great place. We will be back.

We are visiting our family and looked through yelp for recommendations. This place had decent reviews so we checked it out. I had the peel and eat shrimp which were good but the cocktail sauce had gelatin in it which gave it a weird consistency. Not very flavorful. My wife had the burger which had great flavor. Tasted like it was chargrilled. My eldest had wings which she liked very much. I got grilled corn as a side. It was brushed with BBQ butter. Everything tastes pretty fresh. We fed 2 adults and 3 tween aged kids. We also had 4 beers and 3 lemonades. Bill was $58. Not too bad for so many of us. They also carried some craft beer which was nice.

This is exactly what we needed one night when we just wanted something good to eat in a casual environment, but more than just "bar food". Blue Dog delivered! Service was attentive and friendly, and the menu was varied with several entree options for dinner. Both my husband and I opted for the "Custom Dinner" where you choose your protein, then choose how it's cooked, and then choose the seasoning/sauce. He tried the mullet since neither of us had even heard of mullet before this trip. I thought it tasted really fishy, but honestly, I don't eat fish all the time. He really liked it. He ordered it blackened but said it could have been MORE blackened than it was, though he really liked the mango salsa he got with it. I ordered the gulf shrimp, mainly because I didn't know what else to order. I ordered it blackened, and thought it was good and fairly priced for the 9 shrimp on my plate. On their website, they say that curry is one of their sauces, and it's one of the reasons I really wanted to come to Blue Dog. They removed curry from their menu but haven't updated the website, unfortunately. I wasn't interested in any of the other sauces, so I just got lemon and capers which was pretty boring. What I REALLY liked was the Blue Bread! We ordered this as an appetizer -- It consisted of bread with garlic sauce, blue cheese and provolone, all melted to a yummy goodness and topped with a few chopped tomatoes. Do not leave here without ordering the Blue Bread!

We didn't eat out much on this vacation, but of the restaurants we dined at in this area, Blue Dog Bar & Grill was our favorite. I'm not going to lie, I'm a big kid at heart, so restaurants that allow me to color on the table to distract myself while I'm waiting for food are childishly a Big Win in my book (casual dining anyway...). After browsing many of the shops & galleries in Matlacha, we decided to try the Blue Dog Bar & Grill for a late lunch because a) it smelled delicious, b) the menu looked promising, & c) our car was parked next door, so it was very convenient. We were dining at a late-lunch/pre-early-bird-dinner time, so we unfortunately caught the waitstaff during a staff turnover, so our service, while friendly, was a bit scattered. My husband & I each had a Chai Brown beer, that I wish I could remember the brewer, it was outstanding. I got the "Cracked Conch" dinner, and was surprised by the HUGE portion of meaty conch fingers. Conch is my favorite variety of "tasty rubberbands of the sea" and Blue Dog's version was excellent :-). The fries were "ok," I would probably try a different side the next time. My husband got a blackened fish special that was excellent (I snuck a bite). Overall, if we find ourselves in Matlacha again, I would definitely return to Blue Dog Bar & Grill. For a restaurant that is still fairly new (according to one of our waitresses, around 3'ish months old), we were highly impressed. The food also seemed a great value relative to price for restaurants in this area.

Ate here due to great yelp reviews and was walking distance from Matlacha boat ramp. Had shrimp scampi, coleslaw and sweet potato fries..all were very good, esp coleslaw. Hubby had chicken cordon blue sandwich special, came out steaming and was delicious! Drank pineapple sangria, also great! Great atmosphere, wonderful friendly staff. Will be back definitely!

Recommended to us by a local resident we really enjoyed the fresh fish at Blue Dog restaurant!! We especially love Mullet and were excited to hear it's a local specialty and a great area for fresh caught Mullet! The fried mullet sandwich was huge!!! Could barely finish it, perfectly filleted with not a single bone in it!! Loved the Mullet Tacos with Chipotle sauce - tons of fish in these Tacos!! Cute little local place with fresh seafood - a great find while on a day trip - worth a follow up visit!

First time in, great friendly greeting from all the staff soon as we walked in. Pleasantly surprised by the variety and selection on the breakfast/brunch menu. We ordered the Blue Scramble, Nutella Stuffed French Toast, and Crab Cake Benedict. Food came out quickly and was delicious. The fruit cup we ordered for baby was fresh (strawberries, blueberries and bananas) and a good size. Great laid back atmosphere for the family, and the paper covered tables + crayon = always a hit with the kiddos. Bottom line: Give it a try! Super friendly and attentive staff, good food, great location.
