Shalama’s Halal Roti Shop Menu

This is a really improbable place to have some of the best food in South Florida--but it has. The restaurant is a West Indian takeout with a few eat in tables. Plastic plates and utensils. The dishes served are primarily rotisserie; that is, wraps containing dhal (lentils or whatever) plus a chosen main ingredient like chicken or beef, folded together. The wrap (roti) seemed homemade to me, whole wheat, fresh, delicious. The stew (beef in my case, chicken in my wife's case) was sensational, spicy and flavorful while not TOO hot. This is a place for foodies. There is no atmosphere, no pretensions, just amazingly delicious West Indian versions of Indian food. There is a greater selection of dishes at lunch and on weekends.

Been here a few times, tried stew chicken, curry goat amongst others.... loved it... the owner is helpful and informative and answers my questions about food I've never seen or heard of .... totally recommend this place. Oh yeah, also had a double??? It's an amazing little sandwich with chickpeas and some other tasty bits... I WILL order more than one next time... awesome!

This is my favorite roti shop. The doubles are very tasty. The vegetable roti is great for vegetarians. As with most roti shops, it's not fancy. However, if you like curry you will be hooked.

AMAZING food, AMAZING prices. I am Trinidadian and this is the closest thing I've gotten to an authentic St. James roti and doubles. Environment is very West Indian. I've actually met Shalama and she's a doll. I'm always recommending this place to people. Not one bad thing to say about this gem.

Curry chicken and doubles are good here, but the stew chicken was horrid. Steer clear of it; felt like I was eating my own saliva. Overall, food is not bad but had to let everyone know about the stew chicken. Yuck!

Excellent! Love the boneless chicken roti with a kola champagne = the perfect meal. Food is priced right and it is always consistent. This is a great lunch take-out spot but they also have a few tables to dine-in.

The bake and shark was seasoned very well. The vegetarian plate witb pumpkin, chick peas, spinach, split peas, curry potatoes, and rotti was ok. Just a bit on the bland side for our taste. However, I will return to try other dishes. Cuatomerr service was good. Family owned.

This place was recommended to me by a trini coworker, and I'm glad to have tried their cuisine at this place. Amazingly flavored food and a solid portion of it, made this a great experience along with the guy's friendly service. I will definitely come back to try more of their dishes

Maybe the best meal in all of South Florida. Nothing here has ever disappointed. Rotis, doubles, aloo pie and buss up shut are all top of the line. Can't wait to go back!

This place is responsible for my massive weight gain every weekend. Most Triny places I've gone to I have one dish that I enjoy; at Shalama's though, I enjoy EVERY dish. I always say: "I'll get a bake and nothing more this time." but I end up getting everything else I can get my hands on. What starts off as a light lunch quickly turns into a huge meal. No regrets, because my taste buds love me that much every weekend.

Why don't we have ANY roti shops in California?!? Growing up, my parents always talked about "real Trinidadian roti" and the flavors of the West Indies. I only got to try these flavors when my grandmother was still able to cook or when we visited family that knew how to make these things. Needless to say when I found out there were roti shops in Florida, I was super excited. Per recommendation, we tried Shalamas's not once but twice anddd we brought some back with us! Say what you want but Naan and all the other rotis in CA do not compare! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the guys behind the counter were super friendly. They explained some of the foods to us before we made our final decision to get roti with curry chicken, buss-up-shut and beef and doubles. This was the first time we'd heard of doubles and loved them! Everything was hot, freshly made and delicious- just like grandma use to make. The Curry Chicken in Roti reminded of me my dad's cooking. I kept thinking, "so this is the flavor dad is trying to replicate! It's pretty close!" If you get the chicken in roti, I recommend getting the boneless chicken. I forgot the chicken is wrapped in the roti so we had a lot of bones to take out. The beef was tender and had a lot of flavor. The spices and oils teased the taste buds making out mouths water. Of the three items, the doubles were my favorite. I love the flavor of the curry and chickpeas. If I could make those at home I'd probably eat them all the time. Shalama's is located in the corner of a small strip mall. The staff is great and you definitely get your monies worth. The rotis are huge and heavy so we were full and in a food coma the rest of the day. Shalama's has definitely won my heart and the next time I visit Florida I'll be back. For now, that that will probably be the closest I'll get to real Trinidadian roti until I finally get the chance to visit T&T.

My first time eating a Roti! My friend is a vegetarian, so we Yelped an Indian place for some flavorful vegetarian options. It's a little mom-n-pop restaurant with BIG flavors! I ordered the boneless chicken roti, and my friend obviously had the vegetarian roti. It's a huge flatbread with curried chicken wrapped inside of it. I ordered mine a little spicy, and I loved the flavor inside. I only ate half of my roti at the time because I got very full off of it, and ate the rest later at home. My friend loved her order too, and ate all of it at lunch. She said it was bursting with vegetables and that she enjoyed her meal as well. The same man who made our roti also works the cash register. The restaurant was consistently busy with customers, which was great to see. You might wait a little bit to get your food or pay, but everyone is respectful and takes turns so the process moves organically. I pass by this area often, so I'll definitely come back and take an order to go. I want to try more of the menu!

Excellent customer service, good food and good prices. A lot of other roti shops have stuck up employees that seem as if they don't even want you there. Shalama's has employees that are friendly and explain what everything is. The portions sizes are good, flavors are good and their menu says they have a 6-for-5 deal on doubles--which is a pretty nice deal. Unfortunately, I usually only get 3 doubles, so I've never been able to take advantage of that deal. I will say that the doubles there are good!

Some of the best west indian roti you can get in south Florida. I'm partial to the goat and it's not very boney. I wouldn't mind a little more curry in them but they're still great!

This place brought me back to my days in Trinidad. Good roti, good portion and flavor. I tried the goat and it was really good. I have to come back to try the bake and shark, hopefully like the Maraca's one.

Can I just start out saying I've been getting take out for years and I have never had anything but delicious spicy Trinidad food. Today I ordered roti and doubles so good they were devoured as soon as I got home. It's in the back of a strip mall don't let that deter you it's worth the drive for they make the best roti.

Nicki Minaj's food? Please and thank you. So I ordered a buss-up shut which based on my Trinidadian Indian cuisine research is Indian paratha. It was served with a curried chicken. Meat was hella tender and fall off the bone. Oh and perfectly spicy! I got a side of spiced potes too which were creamy and spicy. Then there was this awesome side of garbanzo beans which were cooked to the consistency of refried pinto beans but so much better! There was a sweet and pleasant kick to them! Wish I knew the name. As for the paratha - STEAMING hot and fresh! So soft and buttery. Totes perf! Lastly I got a aloo pie which if you're familiar with Indian cuisine, I believe aloo refers to a spiced pote mixture. This was a hand pie stuffed with spiced potes. Everything was incredible (then again this is my first experience with the cuisine). I want to Go back to try the shark sandwiches!

Highly recommend!!!! The shark and bake is as close to what you can get at home (Trinidad). We also had a beef aloo pie, OMG melt in your mouth. Thumbs Up!

Consistently good food. No frills friendly service. Clean place. Don't be put off by the location or exterior. All standard Roti Shop fare, daily specials, cooler with drinks, up-beat music that is not too loud.

We had the fish stew which comes with two pieces of fish, rice, and a small salad. It tasted good but wasn't warm which really diminished the flavor for us. Overall, a clean well-maintained place and popular. There was a line 6 deep right after we ordered.

Shalama's is fantastic. I'm lying on my couch now basking in the aftermath of the great food. I had the buss-up-shut beef roti. It was fantastic! The servers were polite and friendly and the restaurant was very clean.

Place is a little hard to find (the plaza where the blockbuster used to be). The roti was good, but I had better. Place is clean and they make the roti and doubles right in front of you. I would have it again. Oh they also have a bunch of Caribbean homemade sweets :)

I have just recently learned about good Trini food. The doubles and roti at Shalama's Roti Shop are great. I have looked far and wide to find Shark and Bake. Finally found a place that makes it and it was completely worth searching for! We also ordered the Veggie roti and the amount of different vegetables with amazing different flavors was an explosion of taste. If you are searching for good Trini good, check out Shalama's Roti Shop.

I did like this little place. The food was good, I usually am very picky about my chicken when eating out due to the smell and all. This place however had some good tasting chicken as well as roti's. The spice level was good and the staff were happy and helpful. A good lunch place.

Let me say it in capitals...THE ONLY PLACE IN SOUTH FLORIDA TO GET A ROTI....all others are straight fugazi..and will prolly give you the runs.. These are legit Trini's that give you a true taste of the Islands. Pelau? Check...Phlourie? Check...Aloo Pie with slight pepper? Check.. From the friendly staff that are willing to educate you on Trini food if you have no idea what to order, to the impeccable cleanliness of the restaurant, I can't find anything bad to say about this joint. I don't care if I was living in the Keys..I'd drive all the way up to get food from this spot..matter of fact, I may go there this week!

Ok. So if you've never had a ROTI, go try one. It's like a giant Chipotle burrito but West Indies style, like from Trinidad and Tobago. It's probably a once in a lifetime dish if you're not from FL, like me. I chose chicken but they have beef, shrimp, goat, vegan, and more. The spices are indescribable. It's definitely worth trying. Grab a Triny SOLO soda to get some sweet in ur mouth. Good stuff. The owner, Shalama, was really cool and walked me through my first visit. Good guy, good food. Enjoy!

Their poularie is chock full of fresh herbs and delicious, is there a better combo known to man, fresh, affordable, friendly mom and pop service, this is what our country is founded on! I went ONLY because of the reviews on here and I am hooked! If you live in Florida u need to stop by if u don't u need to fly in!
