I was searching for a mom and pops fish place and ran in to reviews of this place so I came to check it out. Here is my two cents... Gordon's be back fish house is a small restaurant joint in Eatonville(it says Maitland on here) right as soon as you enter the city of Eatonville it is located on your right hand side a bit bitten if you don't Pay attention you can miss it but make a u turn at the city's library down the road. There menu is not very big, they only offer a few sandwiches such as- Bass,Tilapia,Catfish, trout or Whitning. You can get the sandwich +basket with fries for $7.00-7.50 with is not a bad deal for fries and a sandwich. You can also get a drink like a bottle of water for $1.00 or a can of soda $1.50. They also offer Chicken Wings.Five-twenty wings for $8.00-27.00 or even side dishes like Cole slaw, hush puppies, fried okra or French fries for $1.50.The atmosphere here is good the older gentlemen who takes your order(might be the owner) is very nice and helpful and tells you to take your time. I orders the Tilapia sandwich witch comes with a few pieces of fish(4) and a piece of sandwich bread and some fries's,all the condiments(ketchup, mausterd and hot sauce0 are on the table and the food is served in a to go box with fork and knive wrapped in a napkin. They also have Combos one has your choice of fish, six jumbo shrimp, bread, fries and two hush puppies for $14.00 bucks. The other combo is only $9.95 and comes with fish, three jumbo shrimp, bread, fries, and two hush puppies, sounds like good combos for a decent price. I gave this place four stars because 1) There fish sandwich come with nothing but the fish and bread and a white sauce on the side, they could add some tomatoes and lettuce to the sandwich 2) They are closed Sunday and Monday, personally I cant imagine any business surviving on only being open 5 days a week 3) The menu is not very long witch is a good thing and bad thing because it is simple but yet he could add a few more items to make it more exciting but nothing to crazy. They are open only 5 days a week, Tuesday-Saturday. 11am-6pm on Tuesday thru Thursday and 11am-9pm on Friday and Saturday. I will definitely be back to give them a shot again and try there wings , they also have some of the "best ribs in town" that is another option for next time sense the time I went was a Friday and being that it is Lent I was not able to try anything else but fish. Best moment here is when the gentlemen that took my order (might be the owner) ask me ''What kind of fish you are eating? Be back fish, he got me there but funny.

This is a simple, down home southern fish house. Mr. Gordon welcomes every customer with a smile and cheerful greeting. The offerings are simple and tasty. Always a selection of white fish that generally inlcudes catfish, trout, whiting, tilapia and Basa (a type of catfish). Currently, even offers mullet - never had it but it's on wishlist. The seasoning is just perfect, all fish are breaded with a cornmeal crust and fried to perfection...served piping hot and never greasy. The 2 primary offerings are a fish sandwich or the basket. The fish sandwich comes with 2 slices of bread and 3 nice sized fillets. The basket adds a generous helping of french fries. All orders come with the standard, house made tartar sauce. On the tables you will find an excellent vinegar based hot sauce. With a drink, works out to less than $10 - can't beat it! This place is now one of our regular weekly lunch spots.

Hard to tell with we loved more, the food or the chef and owner: all were amazing. Home-cooked from scratch and delicious, the fish baskets were a big hit as were the hush puppies which were the best we'd ever eaten. We'll definitely be back.

I went to this place for lunch. It's a small cute space and the owners are so polite. I decided to order the tilapia sandwich basket. I am a picky eater so I opted to not have any tartar or hot sauce, so my fish was plain. At first glance, I didn't expect much and the bread was just plain white slices. However, the sandwich didn't need anything added to it as it was surprisingly very delicious on its own. The tilapia was fried to perfection. It felt as though it was fried with no grease. The French fries were good and my favorite kind- crinkle cut. I was very satisfied with my meal. I won't hesitate to have lunch here again.

Tasty good!!! Our small office decided to try Gordons Be Back Fish House, and no kidding, we'll BE BACK!!! This is some simply down to Earth fried fish. VERY ECLECTIC atmosphere, but homey at the same time. We each had different fish baskets (Catfish, Flounder, Trout, and Basa) with Cheese Grits!! We all were pleasantly happy with our meals. Cheese Grits were hot and SUPER YUMMY!! Hush Puppies(8) were ordered as a Side dish for $1.50 and were perfect (just like mom used to make)!! Mr Gordon was at the register and he was ADORABLE!! Drinks are served in cans. Cole Slaw was a bit strange and we didn't care for it. But we all left rubbing our bellies and pondering WHEN we would be coming back! Give it a try. We have driven by this restaurant so many times without stopping.....we won't make that mistake again!!! We also want to try the JUMBO SHRIMP BASKET next time.

"You know what kind of Fish you just ate?" as Gordon points to the title of his menu, "Be Back Fish, Gordon's Be Back Fish, cause I know you'll be back" I heard about this place from a friend who is a vegetarian but secretly cheats and eats here because it's so good! I was told to go and try the shrimp but I forgot to on this visit so you know I will do just as Gordon told me and "Be Back" to try em. Ordered the fish dinner and selected trout as my fish. The dinner comes with 2 hush puppies 3 or so pieces of fried fish on top of 2 piece of white bread and 1 side such as grits, coleslaw or potato salad. It also comes with fries if you want. Skipped the fries I figured the fish was more than enough fried food. My first and favorite side was the excellent cheese and butter grits. Most places make them very bland these were a lot better than that, Very Tasty! My trout had the skin fried on it, it was kinda good but had a couple small bones left on it. Served with tartar sauce I tried to make a sandwich out of it with the bread and tartar. I tried a sample of my friends fried Basa fish and though it had the same breading/seasoning on it I found it to be much more tangy and flavorful. There are about 4 other type of fish you can order, catfish, whiting, perch, talapia. They also serve wings and shrimp. To top it all off they have a few different kind of desserts, Red Velvet Cake, Tater Bread, Sweet Potato Pie and my choice, Peach Cobbler. They couldn't heat up the cobbler for it so I was a bit worried but it was still super tasty and YUM! Gordon was right, I will be back, with reinforcements!

Management is unwilling to assist patrons with severe food allergies!! My spouse called to find out about the oils used due to severe peanut food allergies and was refused information on the ingredients so that we could decide whether or not he could safely eat here. I called to discuss the severity of our situation with a manager and the gentleman that answered then lied about a manager being in. He in fact was the manager. Caught him in this lie and he then decided to read the quality and uses for the oil but not what type. We just needed to know if peanut oil was used and if peanuts were on the floor. And management sounded annoyed and acted like he couldn't be bothered! This very sad!

The basa fish is my favorite. So flakey, buttery and a slight tang With cheese grits..cooked perfectly every time. NEVER greasy! i don't know how he does it. I go here about once a week. Sweet older gentleman with a passion for southern food. He just added bbq to the menu..I'm sure it's great but haven't tried it yet bc i can't get away from the delicious that calls my name when i walk in :)

I had to stop in when I was in the area because of all the great reviews... I may not be back... The basa fish was not bad, however everything else was... we ate in and the condiments at the tables were caked with dried food, the slaw was frozen... yes, frozen! We got a very small serving of tartar. They only have canned drinks, plastic forks...

After driving by the home made sign..."hot fish and grits" for more than a year.and never stopping.....enough was enough. I had too often visited Orlando and returned to Texas with regrets due to the fact I had not stopped in. Today I made the Uber driver pull over and drop me off. This was the best decision in days! Throughout my entire meal, all I did was text friends in south Texas about this amazing place. Nothing was made until I ordered it..it came out HOT.....fresh large fried shrimp, huge moist pieces of fresh catfish, killer hushpuppies a bit on the sweet side, and perfect cheese grits! I'm assuming I got advice from Gordon himself...a very pleasant gentleman indeed! I will definitely "be back"....yet next time I'll drag people with me.

This place has some of the best catfish I've ever had! Hush puppies and shrimp are also great! I don't eat tartar sauce but this tartar sauce is tasty and I always get some. The pies and cakes they have are also good. Maybe the best part of this restaurant (and it's hard to beat this catfish) is Mr. Gordon himself. He is just an enigmatic person and a great friendly face to greet you when you come in. I've also been there when he's not and everyone is always friendly. There are interesting articles about Mr. Gordon and Eatonville and art on the walls. I wouldn't call it a fancy spot but it's affordable, consistent and delicious!

I was craving some old fashion fish n grits-- just like how my deceased Nana used to make. I'm VERY particular about the kind of fish that I eat so I was disappointed that I had not found success with some other restaurants that seem focused on fancying up catfish or mullet. :yuck: My boyfriend told me about GBBFH & I was willing to give it a shot for lunch. IT REMINDED ME OF HOME!!! I could have done a back flip in the place, it made me so happy. It's a small restaurant with the standard mustard and hot sauce on the tables. They package your food just like a church dinner in styrofoam with plastic silverware so it really gave me the fuzzy feelings. About the food: I ordered the whiting, fried shrimp, and a side of cheesy grits.Perfectly fried and season-- the cook knows exactly what they are doing. I scarfed my food down and there was no shame. I was tempted to get a piece of Key Lime cake but I decide that I needed to save room for dinner later on. I will definitely be back to GBBFH. Gordon's is a top-notch lunch spot! I am a huge fan of their fish and chips and would return. The inside is a bit small so you better bet you are going to be having take out.

A small easy to restaurant in the heart of Eatonville. I had driven pass many times, until about a week ago. Man I've been there 3 times since. The fish was very tasty. I've had flounder, trout, & shrimp all were fried to perfection. Mr. Gordon is also quite entertaining. .. He said I'd be back and he never lied. :)

The hospitality from Mr. Gordon and Will made my family feel like we were family. The food was so good. I had the large fish combo with whiting and shrimp, cheese grits, and hushpuppies plus fried okra. Will's cake was to die for; he made red velvet and key lime. I know why it's called Be Back because you will surely BE BACK for that food and hospitality!!!!

Pops up front greets everyone with a smile and a quip. Very friendly down home place. The shrimp & Catfish were juicy and fried in cornmeal and perfect! My husband had a Whiting & Fries basket also good. Topped all off with Red Velvet cake! Home cooking at its finest. So mouth watering make you wanna slap yo mama! We'll Be Back!!!
