Diabetics at Whataburger

Diabetics need to be a bit cautious while dining at Whataburger. Calorie intake is the main concern for people with high cholesterol while dining at a fast-food restaurant like Whataburger. Well, you can always try the Lighter & Smaller options from the menu to cut down your fat intake. Opting for grilled sandwich or burgers are preferred compared to double meat or triple meat cheesy burgers which contain high cholesterol.

Foods to Avoid at Whataburger for High Cholesterol

Cut down on your meat intake to control your high cholesterol. You must skip Double Meat Whataburger and Triple Meat Whataburger at all costs. You should also avoid Avocado Bacon Burger and Monterey Melt as both these burgers contain a high amount of fat. Whatacatch Dinner may sound tempting but the famous fish sandwich is also full of calories and unhealthy fat. Lastly, avoid French Fries and Onion Rings at Whataburger if you are already ordering a burger or any other heavy meal.

...and it has three vegetarian dishes as well! A rarity at German restaurants. We got all three and they were all delicious!

We are working in Clearwater FL and happened to pass this place on the way to work. .. We looked up the reviews on yelp as I do with every new place that we visit and everybody had said it was a great family-owned place with friendly service. I agree completely, we were greeted as soon as we walked in and seated promptly. I had a glass of wine, pork Snitzel, Spaetzle, and it was simply amazing. It was 'definitely' authentic German food and I will 'definitely' be back. Thanks German Bistro!

This is why I love Yelp. Never would have found this, nor considered German for my lunch today but so glad I did. Super friendly owner, great food and a nice experience overall.

Amazingly delicious fresh food. We've moved 10 miles away and I miss this place more than anything else. Tiny restaurant, call ahead for seating. Worth any wait. Best spaetzle, schnitzel, brats... Adorable, family run restaurant. A must try.

We found this wonderful restaurant by chance. The food was delicious and truly authentic from our experience. The potato pancakes were crispy and the dumplings were wonderfully made with just the right amount of spicing. I had a delightful smoked pork for which I will return. By the way, get a reservation. You will need it. We recommend this restaurant to all visitors to the area.

Our second time eating here. Fiancee and I. Our first experience was also 5 stars. This place is in the middle of a weird plaza. Easy to find though. Atmosphere is quiet and very relaxing. We sat and drinks were taken. Only one waitress was there with 5 tables being served by her. It was great. She was pleasant. We received bread and butter with potatoe salad and we also orders chickenschnizle w german noodle and fires. Fiancee ordered turkey almond with cabbage and german noodle. Food is phenomenal. We absolutely love this place. We couldn't finish the food due to the portion size. Mind you, they focus their attention on the quality of the meal but they do a bang up job with the quantity as well. I did not wan't to order dessert due to being full however I did order the strudel last time we were here. Portion is huge and very tasty. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to experience fine dining from a mom and pop store in the Largo area. Our meal was about 40 dollars. We gladly paid. We have paid more for less quality in the past. This is a place you don't want to pass up. Authentic German food which I never knew could taste this good.

Mmmm I didn't think I even liked german food till I took my stepdad here. Fam of 4 w a child and it was amazing. Everyone's food was fresh and flavorful and we were all exceptionally happy w out meals. Had a reservation for 4:30, an accordion player came right as we were leaving, that was cute and the family of servers were so warm and funny. But the food!! Amazing weiner schnitzel. The cole slaw they bring table side, omg. The only thing lackluster were my mashed potatoes that were more chunky and not creamy but that may have been their intention. Not bad, just not how I like them. Other than that, terrific restaurant!

Amazing. Simply amazing. Perfect meal. Perfect beer. Get the apple strudel. I had the Jagersnitzel. And my date had the casespatezlie. Topped off with the apple strudel. There is accordionist on Saturdays. I highly recommend coming here. Well worth the effort.

Wow! Definitely worth a stop. Our group of three made a reservation and was seated promptly. Great customer service. It is family run and you can feel the commitment and passion for excellent food and service. Standouts: Beer selection Red Cabbage Schnitzel Coleslaw The apple strudel looked great and tasted pretty good. Worth it, but if you are super full then do not feel bad about passing. I could eat the lightly breaded, tender schnitzel everyday!

It's always great to walk into any restaurant and immediately feel welcomed! You could tell this was a family owned restaurant with two workers and one cook. While modest in appearance, you can't ignore the attentive service and phenomenal food here. We ordered the chicken schnitzel and special of cordon bleu, with the recommended sides of red cabbage, potato salad and spaetzle (?). The chicken schnitzel was our favorite-- not just flavorful, but succulent, moist, and just the perfect light crunch. It was apparently not a busy night for them despite only two empty tables. I really applaud German Bistro for not just the great food, but making everyone feel like part of a family. I even overheard one of the servers offering a complimentary drink for not completing a takeout order in time. Bravo! The only thing I really noticed that was "meh" was its location in a strip mall next to a street wear store and tattoo parlor. It's also not the super modern restaurant... It's the typical old dinner restaurant with rustic paint colors, white Christmas lights strewn against the serving area with dark curtains. It definitely caters to an older crowd, but I'm telling you.... You're missing out if you don't visit!

All I can say is absolutely delicious!! We have been crazing good European food from returning from a 3 week honeymoon all over Europe and German seems to be the most popular in the states!!! This place is absolutely amazing, their schnitzel and spaetzel was some of the best I've had anywhere, even in Germany. They make their own Meatloaf which is what my wife had which was scrumptious. The owners are a married couple and the wife (I temporarily forgot her name) makes all the food from Scratch. Their coleslaw, cabbage is amazing!! I was told in season this place will have a line out of the door and I absolutely believe it. We made a reservation although were starving some came a bit early at 5, by 6 it was packed. The service is perfect, great German beer selection as well. (They do not have free beer any more as they have their liquor license now) I can't wait to stop back in for some more ,mouthwatering food~~

This is a one of a kind place! Worth the drive from anywhere. The owners are very friendly and nice, make you feel like part of a family right from the start. All staff speaks German, which makes it even more unique. The food melts in your mouth, the portions are very generous, everything made from scratch. Kids chicken nuggets and fries taste like real chicken and potatoes. Great selection of German beers! They bring you coleslaw and white bread and butter while you wait. Try marinated beef (last item on the menu), Bratwurst, or breaded pork/veal. We were very full, but brought Apple Strudel home in a box (were not disappointed). Everything is delicious! I wish there were more places like that closer to the Clearwater beach.

German food is not something I would really go out of my way for or crave. It always felt a little too heavy and considering my starch intake has been down for a while... Well, let's just say I had German Bistro bookmarked for a while and finally was in the area. I also happened to be starving and figured it would be worth a shot since it wasn't too far. It was 5:00 or so midweek. I had no reservation. There were a few tables in use but everything else was empty. The owner looked a little concerned when we said we didn't have reservations, and we even asked if we could sit outside. They were shorthanded and sat us at a table, probably wishing we would scoot out before the reserved party came in. By the time we left, every table was full. An extra party of 6 showed up without a reservation (or maybe it got lost along the way), there was essentially a line out the door, and we hauled ass out of their table once we cashed out. I don't want anyone to think they rushed us. They didn't. The owner and our server were both incredibly friendly and sweet. I felt an internal urgency because I was pretty sure taking their table before dinner rush would throw a wrench in their planning. When asking for recommendations the owner gave her opinions but said it's all good... And it's not a place for diets. My kind of lady! I ordered the currywurst with spaetzle and a side salad. I also tried a piece of the potato pancakes. I had to go easy on the spaetzle - while it was delicious I knew there was no way I should be eating all of it. I pretty much inhaled the currywurst though; I could have eaten an entire place of the sausage. Side salad was nothing special, but this isn't a place for salads. The potato pancake was nice and dense, but I have no idea how one could eat their entire plate! All in all, a great experience. This won't be a regular spot for me just because it's too carb-heavy, but pretty much everyone in there was a regular.

The highlight of this place is the service. This is a family owned and run restaurant. The mother/owner was super sweet, nice and helpful. Her husband, sons and daughters work in the place too. The service is tag team, wherein everyone is helping you. The whole famn damily made my visit wonderful. The food was excellent. I ordered the veal schnitzel with the spaetzel. They recommended having the gravy on the spaetzel, but I actually preferred the parts without the gravy. On its own the spaetzel was moist with a nice buttery flavor. The sauerkraut was just okay, but the veal and spaetzel made up for it. The price for the veal was a bit high. I would get the pork schnitzel next time for the price difference. The restaurant is small, so you can expect a wait.

Always Amazing Food! We are lucky enough to have this hidden gem right around the corner from us! This is a family owned and ran business by true Germans. Everything is home cooked to perfection and served with a smile. Hubby & I usually share the Veal Jagerschnizel with Sauerkraut and Spatzle (with gravy). Veal is so tender all you need is a fork & big appetite! Did I mention the portions are large? They always have nightly specials not on the menu that are delicious! Hubby loves the Currywurst, he said it is as good as any he had in Germany! Try them out! You won't be disappointed! Call ahead or Reservations recommended on weekends.

Dinner Nov 16 Would like to give 4.5 stars! Hidden Gem! No idea this place existed. Living in Tampa, I will make the drive to get this freshly made and truly authentic German food. The Red Cabbage was the best I had ever had. Loved the garlic butter spread with the bread. The freshly breaded and beaten schnitzel was phenomenal! Can't wait to come back and try more dishes! Oh yeah and sides are all you can eat!! Small restaurant, so if you're making the drive, make a reservation.

Sehr Gut! Having German Grandparents and family, I appreciated the authenticity of the food. But more importantly the service is Wunderbar und Charmant Freundlich. Accompanied by two Austrians I dined on tender chicken schnitzel, home made spätzle and enjoy the garlic butter. They agreed the food was excellent and enjoyed speaking with the proprietor and her family who are as bilingual as one could imagine. German food is not fancy, its not overly exciting, but its tasty and satisfying. Fünf Sternen!

Most German restaurants don't serve authentic German cuisine, but they do. I've been to Germany and this is what you'd expect, if not better. Do yourself a favor and give this restaurant a try.

  • Jayson N.

I came from a German family and remember eating the potato pancakes right off the skillet. And what I had today sadly blew my grandmother's cooking out of the water. The staff made us feel like we were at their dinner table for a feast. The most friendly and happy people. The food was just pure German home cooked food. I will make this a weekly visit to come and eat their food and just to be a part of the atmosphere.

Family restaurant! Small and friendly, family owned buisness in a little shopping plaza. The place is small so make reservations! All authentic German cuisine. We went with the specials and were not disappointed. Love the place. Ups: Small, and the family was very friendly Downs: Bring your tax return, this place was incredibly expensive. Otherwise it would have made 4 stars :(

DISAPPOINTED Tried this restaurant in February. We tried a veal schnitzel and was quickly disappointed. Far TOOOO thick and slightly tough. (NOTE: Any schnitzel should never need a knife to be eaten.) Breading was so-so (I highly recommend using Progresso Italian Bread Crumbs for more zest),, but all the sides were excellent. A very small place with limited seating. Recommend reservations. We'll probably be back sometime in the future.

Saw the restaurant while driving on West Bay. Made reservation. The man that took down the reservations vas very nice. UHHHH? Had a birthday party for 10 there and everyone of us thought the food and the service was excellent. Good parking and clean facilities. Wonderful ambiance. The place was full at 6pm.All German people. We all fest right at home. We'll make it our favorite place Cristina

Family owned, great food and service. Endless sides, the potato salad, colesaw and spaetzle were my favorites. They got their liquor license so no more complimentary alcohol. Bummer. If you don't like your side or dish you better say something or else you will get scolded by the owner in the nicest way possible. Prices are a little higher than average and reservations are usually needed.

My husband and I just happened to be in the area on a Wednesday evening. To avoid the "5 o'clock traffic", we decided to eat in largo before heading home. I used Yelp to choose the place. It's hard to find German place where we live and the reviews were great, so we went for it. We got a bit turned off by the "strip mall joint" appearance from the outside, but went in anyways. So glad we did! Small, but cosy. Family owned. The owner/server is from Germany. Her son was one of the best servers I've had. Funny, sweet, patient. We ordered schnitzel cordon bleu and pork schnitzel. The food came out promptly and was yummy. It tasted just like it does in Germany and Austria. You can hear them beating pork for schnitzel, so you know, it's made to order every time. Mashed potatoes and gravy were delicious, too. Will definitely come back.

After reading all of the glowing reviews, we decided to give it a try. We are now complete converts to the cult of the German Bistro 2. It was a wonderful dining experience that extended beyond just great food. You are warmly greeted at the door and enter a unique environment. Every table is served complimentary hot bread, soft compound butter and delicious cole slaw to nibble on while you peruse the menu. We were quite surprised with the number of chef's specials offered on a Wednesday night. For entrees, we ordered the schnitzel Paris and the jaegerschnitzel. The Paris had a lemony sauce and the jaeger had their wonderful mushroom sauce. Both portions were huge. Since we were newbies, we both ordered the hot German potato salad, the spaetzle with gravy and we also ordered the sauerkraut just to see how it tasted. All three were some of the best we've ever had and you get unlimited portions of the side dishes! We never get dessert but it seemed that every table around us got the apple strudel and it looked amazing(see pic). After already being stuffed from dinner, we powered through the strudel. We then finally decided to stop eating. The price of this evening was reasonable at $45 for two. We will definitely be back to this friendly, delicious restaurant very soon! Please call ahead for reservations! I called at lunchtime and we got in.

Friendly welcome, seated, cole slaw and bread/butter served immediately as complimentary. Bottled beer only, but a good representative selection of German beers. I ordered the Sauerbraten, my date ordered Ziguner Schnitzel, which is a red/sweet sauce done with green/red peppers, commonly referred to as "Gypsy Style." Sauerkraut, Red cabbage, Dumpling and Spatzle as our sides. NOTE: Germany has different regions, and each has their own flavor profile. The Sauerbraten is authentic, but the taste profile is more Swabian (no gingerbread or raisins, less sweet, more focus on vinegar, juniper), and NOT Rhineland (sweeter, and to me cloying). Same with the sauerkraut -- sharp apple cider tang, definitely not what most gentrified places serve as sauerkraut. Personally, I prefer the difference, but my date didn't enjoy it as much as I did, as they were more traditionally minded. We both agreed the red cabbage was excellent, however, and the dumpling I had with my meal was soft, very herbal/flavorful (again, more Swabian than Generic German), and FILLING. The Spatzle was tender, herbed, larger than average (pieces were 1/3-2/3") and dressed in an excellent gravy. Reasonably priced, the owner/manager came over and we discussed local German restaurants in a friendly manner, with "oh, you should try XYZ" and a genuine, helpful and dare I say caring attitude. No room for dessert, but will sample those next time! Very recommended.

My parents were stationed in Germany, and since we got back mwe have been searching for really good German place...and we found it! I always get the weiner shnitzel, spatzel, and dumplings! husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here in April 2014 and the people are phenomenal! Such excellent service from them...thank you German Bistro 2 for making our evening so special! I know I probably butchered some spellings but you know what I mean.

I really enjoyed our dinner here. Went on a Friday night with fellow Yelper Scott H and newbie P.E.M. Thankfully Scott made reservations as we would have never gotten a table on the rainy night we went. They had soft bread with butter and housemade slaw on the table and Scott was already enjoying a Warsteiner dark so I followed suit and ordered the same while PEM went rogue with some beer I can't recall of what, but it was good. We started with a salad off the dinner menu but split it 3 ways so it was perfect for all of us. The potato salad on was soo good and the greens were nice and fresh. For dinner Scott chose the pork schnitzle with the red cabbage and a dumpling with gravy. Sounded perfect, I followed his lead. PEM again went rogue and ordered the jaegerschnitzel, with a dumpling and I forget what other side. Scott & I were perfectly happy with ours,a nice crispy cutlet cooked nicely , a HUGE dumpling with some pretty darn good gravy and that cabbage, oh I could eat a ton of that (although my tummy would punish me afterwards) The rogue amongst us should have followed the pack because, although he played nice, he offered much crticism of the meal. Stated the cutlet was chewy, tasted like it was cooked old grease and something was "rancid" Now I didn't buy this for a minute as all our cutlets were cooked the same way and Scott & mine were fine. He also complained about the dumpling being way too big, like somehow that effects the taste of it? No, it was darn good. We also ordered the struedel for dessert, 2 orders for 3 people, which was silly because once we saw the size of it, 1 serving could easily feed 3. It was good, homemade, served with ice cream and whipped cream (which lactose intolerent me never got to try) but the boys loved it and it was nice and homemade. With leftovers lingering in my fridge the next morning I decided to do a side by side taste test. What I found to be a little off setting with the taste of his gravy on the jaegerschnitzle. It had a smokey taste to it, almost like a bottled smoke flavor, which certainly was not so pleasing (it was a different gravy then what was used on the dumplings) So no, nothing was "rancid" as overly stated BUT I would pass on that jaeger gravy when I go back, and I will go back! Did I mention the UBER friendly service that stayed on top of everything even though they were super packed and only had a couple people working there? (They had 3 staff members out that night!) I loved the atmosphere, the coziness, the food, and of course, dining with good friends always makes the food taste better (at least for some of us)

I came here based on prior reviews, and was very disappointed. The atmosphere was fine, and the waitress/owner was pleasant enought. I tried the saurbraten, and it was very bland. The sauerkraut was ok, the bread was decent. This would not pass for German food in my household, I don't understand all the rave reviews. Maybe it was an off day, or maybe it's because I came in at lunch time and didn't participate in any beer or wine drinking. I may try it again in the future as other yelpers speak highly of it. I'm willing to admit that I may have come in on an off day. For the time being, I can only give this a 2.

There is reason the menu on the door says "Reservations Recommended"; and it is not because they are small (even though they are). It is because they really are that good!! As mentioned in some of the other reviews the place is not readily noticeable unless you are looking for it. The ambiance and service express warmth and welcome. As you enter, the simple elegance invites you to set and enjoy. There are only about 15 or so tables surrounding a service area, which appears as the design of a roof eave that gives the impression, or feeling that the tables are on a sidewalk café. The color scheme is a maroon with the table linens matching and laid-out with a diamond shape across white table clothes. From the beginning, you know that the business here is all about service, which includes good food. Because I had attempted this place on a Friday or Saturday before and decided not to stay because I realized there was a long wait; this time I went during the mid-week, which allowed me to experience what this entire place had to offer, allowing my choice of seat. There was a small staff of two and both promptly made their way to my table to offer greeting, explain the menu, and to take my drink order. Several of the other reviews state they offer free beer; unfortunately, this has changed. The menu was small but had a decent amount of variety and the sides are bottomless and interchangeable; which really expands the menu options. They also explained the specials that were not on the menu as well. Before I had time to peruse the menu I was presented with my beer, loaf of warm, soft, bread (similar to a small baguette) sliced into bout 1 inch pieces (with plenty of butter), and a bowl of tasty vinegar based coleslaw. I ordered one of the specials a veal schnitzel, dumpling with gravy, and sauerkraut; I switched sides at the end and ordered potato salad for a finish. The veal was an absolutely huge portion sealed in a nice crispy textured breading. The dumpling by far was the most memorable (it was cold out) for reminding me of a warm blanket. Even to the end of the meal, the dumpling maintained heat. It was good size, about the size of a tennis ball, covered in gravy, and very soft. The fresh made sauerkraut and potato salad were tasty and distinctly vinegar based. The pleasure of dining here was enhanced by being asked "do you want more" instead of the typical "can I remove that plate" or "are you ready for the check"; all presented with German pleasantries of "danka" and "guten appetit" as the staff came and went from your table. If you are looking for authentic German food, this is your place. If you are looking for a home cooked meal, this is your place. If you are looking for a home cooked German meal this is your place. If you got that I liked this place, you are right. Please give it a try.

So so so impressed with our experience. The food was fantastic, as was the service! We were stuffed after a wonderful main course but just had to order dessert anyway. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. Simply fantastic! We will return again and again.

OK, for all us locals that hate waiting for an hour for a table, NOW is the time to come out and enjoy our local businesses. What a joy it was to go to this true 5 star restaurant without pressing through a crowd. I can attest to the same wonderful, warm, and personal attention that you receive from the time you arrive until you leave. On this trip to the Fatherland I had the Chickenschnitzel with Mushroom gravy and Mashed Potatoes. The Chicken is pan fried with lemon and was delicious. My Bride had the Hackbraten, (Meatloaf) with brown gravy and Mashed Potatoes. We both had side salads, which like all sides are bottomless! One of our servers Jimmy told us a secret ingredient that he used to incorporate into the Meatloaf. Although I won't divulge what it is here, he'll be more than happy to release it to you in person. I can say that the Meatloaf was outstanding also. For desert we had Twice Baked Cheesecake, soooooo good, and Black forest cake with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, just plain decadent! Don't forget that they offer FREE German Beer, and also wine! That's the best deal in the Greater Tampa Bay Area, IMHO. EDIT: They now have a Beer and Wine license, so no more free beer. So come on out and support our local businesses, it helps us all. BTW, their original German Bistro is in Tampa at 5252 South McDill Ave. ( for those of you that can't cross the bridge. ;-)

Came to this place based on Yelp reviews, and all I have to say is ....YUM!!! Tried the meat loaf and the apple strudel, both were very, very, very good... The portions are ginormous! And... yes you get the dirty look for not cleaning up your plate ;0) Free Cabernet and beer...you can't beat that

Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. I recommend sharing an entree. Especially do not attempt to eat an order of strudel by yourself. The service was also first rate. The schnitzel was large and tender. The breading was not too thick and perfectly crispy on the outside. The roast pork was melt in the mouth tender. Potato salad, cole slaw, spaetzle, soup, and gravy were all great. No wonder you need reservations unless you get there early.

The very best place to go to eat !! The most fantastic family that owns and operates the restaurant. A truly gift when you go there and the food is the best you will ever have. If your looking for a romantic dinner or a family dinner this is the place to go.

My husband is a paramedic and drives the county daily. We live right around the corner from this place and I didn't know it had opened until I suggested going to the Thai place in the same plaza and my husband mentioned seeing it! We both adore German food and it's hard to find it around here, especially that close! It's small and definitely very quaint, but so delicious! The staff were super sweet and immediately offered to 'baby sit' our 9 month old daughter while we ate. XD She loved it, too! We started out with beer which was included in our meal, as well as herb bread and butter and cold potato salad (all delicious), which was free. I had pork schnitzle with spaetzle and more potato salad (can't get enough) while my husband had the currywurst with regular side salad and mashed potatoes. I also ordered a bowl of potato soup that was HUGE and couldn't even finish it! The sides are unlimited and I wish I'd been able to take advantage of that but I was so stuffed! My husband was excited by the variety of the menu - he hasn't had currywurst since he studied in Germany in 2007! Service was impecible and the food was all very delicious. Prices are around $15 for an entree but that includes free beer or wine, free app and unlimited sides, which is fairly unheard of. Plus, if you think about it you end up spending that much at places like Panera super easy. XD We'll be definitely going back there often!

Went with a party of 4 for their 2nd Anniversary. Can't think of anything we didn't try, right till the end with Underberg! All was very good to excellent! The staff, and I hope I get this correct, Sie sind die besten! One negative, they didn't have enough Warsteiner Premium Dunkel for us, or maybe we just drank to much. BTW, we were not driving.

As someone who was born in the black forest, and lived in Germany for many years I am very picky when it comes to German food! This place will not disappoint. I came here with family to celebrate my birthday & college graduation, we received a royal welcome, superb service; the food was great! I had the Jagerschnitzel with Spatzle and Red Cabbage, all delicious!!! MAKE RESERVATIONS!!!

Every single thing about this restaurant was amazing! You could almost say that the German family running the business brought a little of Germany with them. If you wish to have a wonderful food, and have great service this is the place for you! Make sure you try the Red Cabbage!!!! It's a must have!

What a find! The food is easily as good as any I've had in Germany. The owner is really personable and fun. She makes you feel like you're eating in her home. Everything from the potato pancakes to the red cabbage to the schnitzel and gravy were excellent. I decided to try this just because it's next to Thai Bay (also great) and I will be back very soon.

There's a reason the reviews for this place are consistently high. I've eaten here twice and both times the experience was just exceptional. The owner and the staff make you feel like you're part of the family. They are so friendly and go out of their way to ensure you enjoy yourself. I spent time in Germany and the food takes me right back to Berlin. The food is very hearty and with the bottomless sides it's easy to let your tastebuds get carried away. I've had the veal shnitzel and jaegershnitzel. Both were excellent. All of the sides are good. You simply can't go wrong with anything they serve. It is a bit pricey but so worth the money. They do recommend reservations and as the place is small and consistently busy it's a good idea to make them versus stopping in.

Of the few places serving German food in Pinellas county, this is my favorite. The place is small, so reservations are suggested. However, you can usually get a table for 2 without much issue. Free beer and wine is a plus. I would have preferred some other German beers, like Optimator or Hacker Pschorr, but you cannot complain about free beer. The complimentary potato salad, bread, and herb-butter we received before we ordered was excellent. We had a few refills on these. The spaetzle was excellent. We each a schnitzel. I got the Gypsy and the others got Jaeger. They were both excellent. The mushroom gravy on the jaegerschnitzel was better in my opinion, but that's just a matter of personal taste. The service is top-notch. There was somebody constantly getting us a refill on the drinks or the sides. This could be bothersome if you wanted a quiet romantic dinner, but this was a fun, festhaus-like atmosphere. The accordion player really rounded out the experience. However, I don't believe the accordion player is there always. Maybe 1 or 2 nights per week as I understand he performs at their other shop in Tampa. My only regret is that we all were gluttonous and ate too much food. It was all so good, we just couldn't stop. The prices pretty much all fell between $13 and $16 which would seem a little pricey if not for the free refills on the sides. I'll be returning again shortly.

This place was an absolute pleasure to dine at. The staff is incredibly nice and accommodating, the food excellent, and who can say a negative thing about free beer and wine? I highly suggest making a reservation due to the fact that the establishment is small (they probably had no idea how well they'd do) but if your a small group you're probably okay. I most definitely will be returning.

I had the opportunity to try this delightful restaurant and I must say that you can see feel and taste the heart and soul that this charming family puts into every meal served! I had the veal Wiener Schnitzel Holstein with a side of spätzle and red cabbage, yum! Everything was delicious!!! I felt I was enjoying a meal straight out of some grandma's kitchen! In fact the strudel although not elegant actually had a delectable homey quality to it that actually reminded me of my own grandma's strudel! A true complement since my grandmother was a wonderful baker and cook!

This small restaurant is tucked away in the corner of strip mall and is easily missed if not sure where you are going. There aren't many tables inside and reservations are certainly recommended on Saturdays. They are only open for dinner on Saturdays. Hubby and I showed up a few minutes of opening and got the open table for the evening. While the food was good it certainly was not amazing. The service seemed to be awkward as there were a guy and girl working on all the tables so little things got missed. We got the mushroom soup which had wonderful flavor and fresh herbs but the texture really made this dish not being a home run. The mushrooms and onions were in small pieces so instead of silky and smooth it was slightly grainy. For the entree I ordered the Goulash with spaetzle and red cabbage. and husband got the Veal Schnitzel with side salad and mashed potatoes. My goulash was yummy and filling and I had to take some home. Hubby's Schnitzel was on the small size and his mashed potatoes were bland and the salad dressing didn't have to too much flavor. The apple strudel with ice cream was enough to feed a table of four but very tasty. I look forward to trying this place for lunch and trying the Currywurst and Jagerschnitzel.

Location: tiny with only about 30 chairs. Call before you go since you might need a reservation. Hard to find in strip mall, but it is by a Thai restaurant. Staff: wonderful German family owned and operated. They take pride in their food. Food: fantastic authentic. Entrees include free beer or wine and 2 sides! Bring your appetite since you will eat hearty! I don't give 5 stars a lot, but well deserved! Gutes Essen!!!

I LOVE German food, and was so glad to find an authentic restaurant where we spend so much time. Give me a good schnitzel and some potato pancakes, and I am happy-- German Bistro 2 fits the bill perfectly. Adding this to my favorites list to revisit often.

I stumbled across this gem one evening when the Cuban restaurant I wanted to eat at turned out to be closed. I am really glad it was, because I was instantly charmed by the owners and staff and the food was incredible. Everything is very authentic and delicious. I'll be going back every time I'm in Largo!

I guess the German Bistro 2 that the reviewers here are raving about is either in an alternate universe, or the owner has a lot of friends cheerleading for them here. We like to go to small family-owned type restaurants, but this experience was so absurdly horrible we wound up laughing all the way home (and burping). The first time we stopped by this small place they were closed for some reason during their regular hours. This time we called first, and made reservations for 4:30 pm. You can't go earlier, because after lunch they are closed from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, probably to thaw that evening's frozen dinners, or maybe just to watch the Maury Povich show. We were greeted by Irena, the owner I think, and she was the only server. She was friendly and boisterous and really too loud and full of blabber and later, apologies. The menu is very limited, with mostly fried greasy pork schnitzels with different choices of bland goo to have it topped with. I had the Saurbraten dinner (beef) and the Mrs. had the Schweinbraten (pork). First, came a long story from Irena about why the beer is "complimentary" (who cares, and its only one brand choice), or we could "bring your own" if we felt like going to a supermarket for a beer run and then come back. The bread and white foamy grease spread came out with flecks of some indistinguishable flakes of tasteless seasoning. The bread was cottony and stale, like old supermarket bakery rejects. Then came a bowl of room temperature watery mayonnaise with some wilted cabbage shreds in it described as cole slaw. And we could have free seconds, "almost endless", if we could only eat the first serving. My Saurbraten came out, which is supposed to be marinated and seasoned beef with mushroom gravy, but it was several sad slices of dry shoe sole leather with a covering of the cheapest bland canned brown gravy that wasn't fit for a prison cafeteria. The German potato salad was small, and tasteless, but we could ask for seconds, lol. The side salads were standard bowls of lettuce with a slight garnish of carrot shreds and a tomato fragment, and very little store-shelf grade dressing. The Mrs.' pork was also dry and unrecognizable as pork, beef, or chicken. She spent most of her dinner experience pushing the bulk of it around on her plate through the generic brown goo sauce with one tine of her fork, as to appear to be eating. Her saurkraut was very mushy, the consistency of seagull poop, and loaded with excessive salt and vinegar... that, too we should have run to the supermarket for a more edible dish. Irena kept pestering us to eat this glop, disheartened by our apparent lack of enthusiasm. Although there was nobody else in the place, she gave a couple a hard time for not making reservations, and then another that followed. She said we couldn't have any dessert if we didn't clean our plates, which actually was a relief. She badgered me until I finally said, "Yes, I can't eat this, it's dry", taking a mouthful to give it yet another try, but having to spit it out in front of her into a napkin. Irena insisted she bring something else for me, because these things "do happen". Since there is hardly anything else on the dinner entree menu I said, "Okay, okay, how about the Jagerschitzel (fried pork, and brown goo). As quickly as the microwave could heat it, out came a huge plate of brown greasy glop, looking like a fresh steaming loose elephant dump. Irena pleaded for compliments some more, but we were exhausted from our two hour culinary ordeal. It is mind-boggling how this and so many other restaurants think that serving old leftovers and very unfresh food service bagged preparations are worth restaurant prices, or are even worth trying to eat at all. To sum up the experience in a word: Bleccch..

I was lucky enough to try this little spot that could easily be missed by most. The experience I had compelled me to write a review. Irena, the lovely owner of German 2, greeted our party at the door, and quickly introduced herself before she explained the menu. She encouraged us to try the authentic items on the menu, of which there were many. I had never had German food before, so went with the safe bet of chicken schnitzel. Though safe, it was also executed perfectly crisp, juicy, and greaseless. I did go for the spaetzle and red cabbage as sides, which were both delicious and unique to me. This place is a beautiful example of someone who is trying and succeeding in the art of living the American dream. Irena makes everything here, works crazy hours, and provides an impeccable product! I only hope she is reaping the rewards of all of her hard work because she certainly deserves it. Go here! Invest here! Spread the word!!

Food was good, service was excellent but like most German food, it is not for the weak-walleted. Veal schnitzel is ok, but expensive (veal is, after all, an expensive meat). Food was tasty and we enjoyed the experience.

Based on great Yelp reviews we tried German Bistro 2 out and we were not disappointed. Very friendly service! The free beer was great. Potato salad, bread, rouladen and currywurst were all delicious. My husband and I agree that the red cabbage was our favorite thing, but we always love good red cabbage. We wish we could have tried dessert but we didn't get refills and still took a box home, so we will have to save that for next time.

I came across The German Bistro 2 only after realizing that one of the other local German restaurants had closed down. We arrived at the tiny restaurant early one Friday evening not knowing what to expect. Ninety minutes later, we left with pleased palettes, full bellies and smiles on our faces. The first thing that struck us as unique was that once we were seated, a gentleman came right over to take our drink order. He explained that they don't have their liquor license there but they do have "complimentary beer and wine." We were presented a few choices, of which I chose Warsteiner (bottled), a light German Pilsener I was quite familiar with. My dining partner had a delightful glass of Cabernet. Once alone, we joyously discussed how it could be possible that we couldn't be sold drinks but could have them given to us free of charge. Although that puzzle never got solved, we gladly reaped the benefits over several more drinks that evening. Almost as quickly as the drink order was taken, we were served a plate of fresh bread with herb butter along with a plate of delicious coleslaw. What a joy it was to whet our appetites before we even looked at the menu! For dinner I had the Currywurst which was excellent. My choices for the two sides were the French Fries and Red Cabbage. Both were great. The Fries were seasoned and fresh. The Cabbage was pickled and contained the perfect amount of onion. My date had the Pork Goulasch with Sauerkraut and a Dumpling on the side. Vundabar! Every item was delicious. I'd never been a big fan of Sauerkraut but absolutely loved it from German Bistro 2. All the sides on the menu are bottomless, which is to say if you want more, they will bring more. The staff was very attentive. In fact, at least four different people checked on us at various times to make sure we were satisfied. We were offered additional complimentary drinks whenever our glasses ran low. We were asked if we'd like to try some of the other sides from the menu and if we wanted refills on what we'd already ordered. Finally, we shared one of the Dessert Specials. It was Dark Chocolate Cake covered with French Vanilla Ice Cream and Whipped Cream. It was the perfect complement to the coffee. The meal and service was excellent and the cost was very reasonable. If you like hearty German cuisine I highly recommend German Bistro 2. Reservations are a good idea, however since tables are limited and they seem to be understandably popular there!

Free beer, free wine, free sides and tasty entrees. Legitimately good food. The location is pretty horrible in my opinion -- in Larghetto. But the food is good enough that I'll be going back often. One suggestion for the owners: carry Hacker-Pschorr Octoberfest on draft. Best beer ever made, and its German.

This is a great German food at good price considering the complimentary bier, wine, warm German potato salad and unlimited refills on the two side dishes. The portions are large and you won't be ordering many side refills. I walked in and felt like I had been coming there for years. This was our first visit and we will be back very soon.

This place is the real deal and is as good as it gets!!!! We have seen this place a few times but never thought a German restaurant in Largo could be worth the trip...were we ever wrong!!!! As authentic and as flavorful...for a third of the price of any restaurant in this area. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere cozy. We had the Chicken Goulash and the Weiner Schintzel...it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The hot German potato salad was spot on as was the spatzel and red cabbage. The desert...welll, let's just say you need to save room for desert and I will leave it at that. Only complaint is that I could not eat more...we will 100% for sure be back!!!! Speaking of going back...they do not have their liquor license yet. As you will see in other posts they do offer free Warsteiner, a red and a white wine which were both fine selections. If you are a wine enthusiast...you can bring your own wine. Enjoy!!!

Friendly, family run restaurant located in an interesting neighborhood. The food was pretty decent and all 4 of us have lived in Germany so we have experience. Not every Friday but okay for special occasions. To be safe, make reservations.
