If you love Japanese food, Haru is the place to be. I've lived in Asia my whole life and didn't think I'd find a great place for sashimi in Melbourne. The food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is kind of swanky which could be good for date night or a birthday party. There was a live saxophone player and the music was on point. I recommend the spicy tuna appetizer. It was my favorite thing on the table. The tofu- not so much. But the sashimi was fresh and the presentation was beautiful.

We've been here twice and loved both times! We love the Bugaki absolutely love it!! The ahi tuna was incredible with cucumber as an appetizer and the sea scallops were great but wish they had given more than 3 but all is well and the tempura banana was amazing though they should add a scoop of ice cream and it would have been perfect. The service is great! Highly recommended! Great experience.

I really don't understand the negative reviews on this place, but when I read them in detail and see things like patrons upset that there's no fried rice or ranch dressing, I get it. I don't live in the area anymore, but I've been here twice including tonight. I have nothing but good reviews for it. Both times I've been here, I've gotten whatever tataki appetizer they've had on special and both times, it's been incredible. Tonight was Mahi tataki. It was deliciously prepared with a yummy ponzu sauce, and I was genuinely disappointed when it was gone. Their specialty rolls (of which there are an amazing amount) are obviously chosen and prepared with careful consideration to how ingredients flavors interplay with one another. The staff is both friendly and capable. They all help with each other's tables and are quick to answer questions and make accommodations. I know the area tends to favor casual places, but surely there is a place for an upscale sushi restaurant on this barrier island. The ambience is classy and the music is jazzy. I think you'd be remiss not to include this restaurant in your dining plans in the area.

This was a great sushi spot, huge menu, and everything we had was super tasty! Probably also one of the more high-end sushi spots I've ever been. This is definitely a fancy spot, a great restaurant for date-night or perhaps a fancier occasion. They often have live music on weekend nights (piano, sax, etc.). Highly recommend!

My wife and I were here about 2 years ago and we loved the sushi. We went back this past weekend with my mother in law excited. However, for whatever reason the taste of the sushi changed for the worst. The menu changed and the taste definitely changed. Although the service was excellent I don't think we will be going back. I'm hoping the owner sees my review so they can assess their current sushi menu and try to find out why the sushi does not taste fresh and reach out to me. Not worth the $150 we spent on sushi. Very disappointed.

Great food, good service. Even the filet mignon steak is great 99% if the time! Careful to clean tables better with different cleanser so there is no stickiness! Men's bathroom door needs to be cleaned.

Top of the line sushi!! Went here tonight for my birthday and I absolutely loved the sushi! I consider myself quite the sushi snob too. Must try the Casanova roll! Will be back for sure!!

Fresh seafood and sushi is hard to find in Indiana, so when we vacationed recently on the central Florida coast, I was really looking forward to sampling some of what they had to offer. We weren't sure of the "reputation" of the central coast for their sushi options, so we went with a suggestion from a local (my mother.) We were really pleased with our meal and experience at Haru! We ordered several of their specialty roles, including the humorously titled "Dirty Old Man" roll, which ended up being our favorite! The prices were decent, I expected them to be high given that Haru is located in a very tourist-focused region, but they were not outrageous. I'd even venture they were low compared to some of the other options I saw online. The atmosphere is not an overtly traditional Japanese aesthetic; it more of an upscale modern and intimate layout, with very low lighting, candles, with a small stage for live music. The pianist performing the night we went was very good, we made sure to leave him a tip. Overall, the upscale atmosphere really enhanced our experience. Since most of the area is very casual, expect this to be just slightly dressier (you could definitely get away with just a collared shirt and jeans.) Our waitress was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. She made sure to arrange our plates and side dishes to optimize our groups ability to share our rolls. Her recommendations for wine pairings and sauces were spot on. My mother is a red wine fanatic, and proclaimed the bottle of Josh recommended by the server to be a new favorite. I enjoyed the cold Sake and a glass of the house Pinot, while my boyfriend stuck with his usual Japanese beer, Sapporo. We enjoyed it so much, we ordered take out later in the week (since we were only there for 7 days, a repeat visit means a lot.) I would recommend Haru to anyone staying in the Indiatlantic or Melbourne Beach area. Note: My only complaint has nothing to do with the food or service. The listing and address on Google Maps is completely incorrect, and led us into a residential area, at least 10 minutes south of the actual restaurant. If you're heading north on the A1A, you'll need to head past the intersection of 192 (the road that goes over the causeway into Melbourne) about 3 miles. The restaurant is on the left. Hope this is helpful to out of towners, I assure you, it's worth the trip!

Been at the beach all day. Craving sushi and Haru was perfect! Classy, great atmosphere, and best of all the sushi was fresh, great selection, good price and just what we were looking for. Service was excellent! Also loved the Pad Thai. Even had Ramen on the menu for kids.

You guys are awesome! I asked for a special sushi roll and was blown away by what I received. That should go on your menu. Always good. Always fresh. I recommend Haru to everyone.

The sushi I had here was fairly dry (and the rice). Seems like it had been sitting for a while? The ginger looked like my leather gardening gloves and I was scared to eat it. The waiter was great, but that's not enough when you are looking for good sushi. We had a large party, and the best bet if you must come here is the sashimi on rice. All the rolls looked dry.

The good: The place was pretty and clean with lots of tables available. Good size portion for the price if you don't factor in the quality of the food. Good house salad. The bad: Everything service and food related (except the salad) Let's start with my friends inquiry whether they have sushi without rice (eg hand rolls). The waiter rudely let her know that sushi rolls there all have rice. I found a sashimi bowl on the menu which fit her request. We then asked if we could have tuna/ salmon in the bowl and the waiter said there is usually salmon and tuna but it's up to the chef. I again politely repeated the request and he said the chef wouldn't so it bc they were so busy (it was lunch time and there were five other tables and maybe the restaurant was at 1/5 capacity). Customer service went downhill from there. I took the first bite of my sushi, gagged, and spit it out. The only other time I. My life I've down that was with a spoiled oyster. I looked at my friend and told her it wasn't fresh and I was afraid if getting food poisoning. It not only tasted bad, but it was rubbery and tough and hard to chew. I didn't even know what it was. She tried her tuna and said that was also fishy/ not fresh. We told the waiter and opted not to order any other food. He asked us if we wanted it taken off the bill. Yes please. We wait awhile. He comes back and tells us that the manager (apparently the chefs wife) said some awful things that he didn't want to repeat. I immediately offered to speak to the manager thinking this is crazy. He said that wasn't a good idea and I'm just in shock about the horrific customer service. He said the manager would take it off the bill if we agreed never to come back to the restaurant. We showed the waiter a dried up shriveled discolored piece of sushi and he said it looked that way bc it was seared. I said a sashimi bowl is supposed to be raw sushi not seared. We paid for our salads. We really shouldn't have paid for anything. The conclusion: They didn't know their menu, the sushi chef didn't know..... How to properly cut/ serve sushi, and they overlooked the most important thing about eating raw fish is that it's fresh. They were so rude that my friend that it was a joke of the restaurant. We are not two young kids in town, we are both professionals who have had sushi all over the country. Thank you for the fitting request that we not return- we are in complete agreement on that one.

I have yet to have a bad experience here and I've been here about 4 times. One of my friends and I have a mission to try as many Melbourne/Beachside restaurants as we can and while Haru was early on the list, we keep coming back. Our servers have always been super nice and attentive. The ambience is a little upscale looking but relaxing at the same time. The wall of lights outside is absolutely stunning and makes me feel romantic. My favorite appetizer is the lobster tempura. My favorite dinner is the hibachi shrimp. I love shrimp but I really prefer those big shrimp (what an oxymoron). They're always prepared perfectly and the rice is divine with some of the lemon juice drizzled in it. I introduced that concept of lemon on rice to a friend and it changed how he eats rice, it's so good. While Matt's Casbah has the best sushi so far, I'm looking forward to trying Haru's sushi next time I visit. The prices are reasonable enough and I'd suggest this as a good place for a first date. Men, you'll look impressive taking a lady here.

Being from California and searching yelp for reviews, Haru seemed decent enough. So I tried it out. I was very pleased on how the food came out. Though I don't understand they would put a sweet and spicy sauce on Spicy Tuna Roll. None the less the food was great and pleased.

I have been here several times and decided awhile back that I would not return as the prices did not match the quality. The restaurant is fancy and nice inside, but that's as far as it goes. My boyfriend and I decided it had been over a year since we last ate at Haru, so we decided to give it another chance and called in a to-go order. First, the girl on the phone was rude, but I brushed it off. About 20-30 minutes later, we arrived to pick up our order. When I walked in, it quickly became apparent that no one submitted our order. Awesome. So I waited for 25-30 minutes thinking to myself "this better be the most amazing food I've ever had." In order to make up for their mistake, Haru did nothing. Once we got home to taste our food, I was very disappointed. I got the "Super Duper" sushi roll which I've also had in the past. They've changed it from what it was before. I've eaten a ton of sushi in my day, and this was the worst roll I've ever had, sadly. It tasted as if it were soaked in salt with soggy tempura flakes on top. I've never seen the type of tempura flakes they use. Someone needs to tell them to stop using them. Terrible. My boyfriend got the Bulgoki. In his own words, "I've had better, but it tastes like it's missing something." It was a good portion, but it should be for $20. Overall, Haru is WAY too expensive for what you get. I will not return. There are much better priced Asian or sushi restaurants with much tastier food.

Great food. Wait staff could have been more friendly. Very strange how slow they were for lunch. We will definitely go back next time in town.

I'm giving Haru 4* based on how it compares to other Sushi bars in the Brevard area. It's our second favorite sushi, and definitely better than most of the Sushi bars in the area. Better than Thai Thai, Daisan, and Siam Orchid. But if this restaurant were competing with some of the better sushi bars in South Beach, San Diego, or similar, it would be rated much lower. Matt's Casbah has the best sushi in Brevard, and is our favorite.

This is one of my favorite joints for sushi! There are actually two locations- one being in Melbourne (corner of Wickham Rd. and 1-92) and the second being in Indialantic (right off A1A). I prefer the the beachside location. It's bigger and newer. The staff is always very attentive, quick to greet you as you enter the place. They have a great wine selection. This is the type of restaurant where you can enjoy a casual afternoon lunch by day, but also doll up and enjoy a really nice dinner out by night. The food is always fresh- their sushi is delicious. My favorite is called the Godfather!!! It is divine!!! They also have a very good dessert selection. Overall it's just a nice dinning experience- the type of place I would want to be taken to on a date or on my birthday!

I really enjoy this place. The sushi is great I ordered a roll and some soda water. I asked for a lemon with the soda water and received a lime. I also had a huge carpenter ant in the soda water. Most places don't charge for carbonated water and I would probably expect that you wouldn't charge me for soda water when I find a huge monster of an ant in my drink... Anyways the place has a lot of good sushi

Mediocre Japanese affair. I would have given it two star for the true quality of their sashimi (raw fish pieces) but I know I am spoiled with all the authentic Japanese food in California. They are alright for a beach town Fl, but still a bit on the pricey side.

My wife and I ended up at Haru on valentines day when we decided we wanted sushi but most of were normal, higher quality haunts were closed or booked solid. Many co-workers raved about it so we gave it a shot. Long story short, we weren't impressed by the staff (claiming it was too busy for any type of substitutions or to make 3/4 of the items on their dessert menu, but ours was one of only 5 or 6 tables in the whole place that was filled), the fish itself (dry and bland for the most part), and most importantly in my opinion, the price for what we got. For as much as we paid there, we could have gone to downtown Orlando.

Excellent atmosphere, live music, attentive staff. Come hungry with dozens of appetizers to choose from. Recommend the calamari and spicy chicken appetizers. Sushi is fresh, creative and very tasty as good as it gets. Deserts were out of this world and a true work of art. Seriously we had to take pictures of the desert before we ate. Two thumbs up I'm heading back in a couple days.

I've never had a bad experience at Haru, I've been to both the Beach and Inland venue, both has great service, high quality sushi and also delicious. However, its pretty pricey and sometimes on the beach, the venue can be a little crowded and loud with live music.

I like Haru . The sushi and rolls has always been good as well as the service. Been there more than a few times and have enjoyed the food every time.

We were excited at the atmosphere and Cakebread Chardonnay (although overpriced at $69)... but after being seated then ignored for over 15 minutes, it was apparent our patronage was not appreciated. Our server then stood by the door as we walked out of the restaurant with as little to say as the service he provided. They diligently earned their unsatisfactory rating.

Last nighty wife and I went to Haru's This is the fourth or fifth time. We were looking forward to it. Once again we had the best meals. I had the Mahi with a crab cake on it. Excellent. My wife had ahi tuna, she had enough for two servings. The sushi app was fresh and hit the spot. The server was friendly and attentive. It was Friday and they have music it was two guys playing rhythm guitar and percussion they were great. A great time was had.

It seems to me that most of the sushi places in Brevard are Thai restaurants that offer sushi. How strange is that? Its almost like eating at a cuban restaurant that also offers chinese. Wait a second, been there done that, but that's another story. Believe it or not many of them are pretty good and offer very creative rolls. Some are better than others of course but when it comes to Nigiri there is only one place to go in Brevard County. Haru is located on A1A just North of 5th Avenue in Indialantic. They have their own private parking lot which makes thing very convenient. When Niki and I first entered the restaurant we immediately notice how nicely decorated it is. Its a bit modern with more sophisticated asian flare. The staff greeted us warmly and quickly brought us to our table. We ordered a bottle of water and a couple of cocktails while we looked over the menu. The cocktails here are very good and if you have to wait for a table, the bar is a sure thing. Niki likes rolls while I prefer nigiri and at first glance one thing caught my eye immediately. They offer blue fin toro here which is my absolute favorite. For those in the know this is a treat that can't be passed up. It is usually a bit expensive but believe me it is worth every penny. They also have daily specials and I chose the grouper and mangrove snapper with a variety of my usuals. After a short wait our order came and everything was beautiful, fresh, and oh so tasty. The best I saved for last, two pieces of blue fin toro. The first bite and every one after was just amazing and in my opinion nothing in the world of sushi can compare to blue fin toro, absolutely nothing. So when your in the area give Haru a try. You won't be disappointed, especially if you order the blue fin toro.

I really enjoy this sushi place. I have been going here for over a year now and I have to say it never loses it's touch. One of my favorite things to get is called a princess roll which I recommend fully and it is not on the menu. It consists of avocado, cream cheese, strawberry, crab and some other secret ingredients you will have to ask about to find out. The Rock and Roll is also tasty. One other thing I like about this place compared to the other sushi joints in the Greater Melbourne Area is they carry cold Sake and have some very tasty variety. On Thursday night they have a talented live pianist should you make it on that night. Thanks for reading and enjoy.

We went here for my wife's 50th birthday. The staff was pleasant. The only sushi bar in town that has Toro. I give it a 3 1/2 to four star.

Very very good, has the atmosphere and service of fine dining but you can dress casual and expect to pay a low price for their amazing food and sushi, i come here for many family events and date nights out. Ive been here many times and the service is always top notch and quick. if you're feeling like a night in you can order take out too!!!

All I can say is "Amazing Sushi," by their Sushi Chef Naoki Shiba. He makes this place amazing. They better double his pay to keep him around!

  • Christopher K.

Good sushi but had to wait 45 minutes to get my order. It was the second time I have gone to Haru and had experienced slow service so I tried it again hoping they had improved. You simply can't expect one sushi chef and a helper to put out sushi any faster. Too bad because it has good potential.

I've held off on writing a review on this place until I ate there a few times. The reason I did this is because the first time I went, I literally experienced the worst service in a restaurant I've ever received. I could gripe about it, but it would just be a waste of time, just trust me when I say it was like being in a bad movie - aggressive, argumentative waiter and all (I actually wondered if he was drunk). Anyway, the food was still amazing so that's the only reason we came back. Now that I've been a few times, I can say with confidence that this place has great sushi, sashimi, nigiri, etc. Try the Toro (fatty tuna) nigiri if it's available, as well as the Scallop nigiri. Unfortunately though, they seem to be plagued by bad service. I don't know how they do their hiring, but they need to correct the process. They just can't seem to get anyone worthwhile to work for them... I probably won't go back again. Other than that, great sushi. Upscale atmosphere also.

Great ambiance, relaxing and contemporary. We were there when a pianist played for the evening. Very friendly staff. Food prices were appropriate, menu selection was large. Huge variety of sushi with catchy names--we had 4 different rolls and they were all delish! Two hot entrees and three appetizers--not one complaint from the family! Everybody praised the food! We visit this area often and will definitely be back!

Although I enjoy Haru, I mainly enjoy the staff and good sushi. However, the entertainment of either saxophone or clarinet or whatever it is that should not be played while eating or ordering sushi is not a positive for me. My opinion: good sushi, great staff, good wine selection- great prices on wine, but could do without the music. Overall a positive experience.

If I could give this establishment 0 stars I would. I asked for the crab cake with no sauce. Three different times the server brought it out to me WITH sauce. Just like the previous times, my husband pointed out to the server that there was still sauce to which the server sheepishly responded, "I know." I politely told the server, "I'll eat it. I give up." But I could only eat half since the other half had the sauce on it. The server made no attempt to rectify the error. At least 50% off would have been acceptable since I only ate half of the crab cake. When my husband asked to speak with the manager and explained to her what happened, she asked to see the crab cake (which the server had already removed from the table). She then spoke to the server who she claimed told her that I'd asked for "no salsa." At no time did the crab cakes have salsa, only aioli. Why would the server think we said something three times about please removing the sauce when it never had salsa on it? My husband even pointed to the aioli for the server when sending it back. I tried to explain this to the manager at which point she interrupted me, raising her voice and waving her hands dismissively while saying, "Okay, you don't wanna pay. Fine!" I was trying to CALMLY (unlike the manager, I don't raise my voice in public) explain to her the misunderstanding and how we'd be willing to pay half for the crab cake, but she refused to listen to me and rudely walked away while I was midsentence. I have never been treated with such disrespect at a restaurant in my entire life. Please don't eat here.

We are big sushi fans from out of state. We were disappointed that every sushi restaurant seems to be slash Thai. If I want Thai I will go to a Thai restaurant. Haru was a great find. Sushi as it should be. Friendly staff and great variety. It is our new favorite.

  • John L.

For the people that gave this place 4/5 stars, you need to get out and try a few more sushi places. The food is just okay; actually their non-sushi dishes are better than their sushi rolls. The number one taboo in making sushi is bad rice and Haru's rice was undercooked and hard. In addition, they can't even make a proper spicy mayo...I mean how do you screw that up?!! That's like screwing up ketchup. Aside from their ambience there's just isn't much positive I can add. Also please check your bill: I was charged $2 extra for my spicy tuna rolls. When I asked them why? They told me it's b/c I ordered my rolls inside out. I know how to make sushi and there's no way you need more labor or (materially) more rice to make the roll inside out. Sorry but this place is a pass for me. Update: I just noticed that a reviewer wrote that the food is as good as what the person had in Asia, I'm sorry but I grew up in Asia and this person must be confusing going to China/Japan/Korea-town as being in "Asia"...lol...j/k. Haru is not even close to being good food.

We went to Haru on a Saturday night as we had been there with friends once about a year before, remembered that it was very good, and wanted to see if it was still as good. We were not disappointed. The sushi was extremely fresh, although one piece of nigiri tuna I had was a bit rubbery. They were out of the blue-fin toro that other reviewers have mentioned, but their uni (sea urchin) was seriously on point!! That was just about the best uni I've ever had! There was almost nobody there, surprising for a Saturday night. When we were there, they were obviously trying out a new guitarist for live entertainment. His "sets" were more like practice, but in no way distracted from a very positive dining experience. If you're in the area, we highly recommend Haru for some really awesome sushi.

Yes, Ressa is 100% right on this ...food great, clean, service excellent, not one for sushi, so I got the spinach salad....very good...filling, but the dang chop sticks...well after fumbling I finally gave up and use my fork! Wish I had gotten the Dynamite Scallop dish, but next time for sure! Highly recomend.

Great sushi joint. Very friendly staff. I went on a monday night, so obviously not crowded. Service was a little slow, but that is ok, because I wasn't in a hurry. Food was excellent. I had the lobster bisque soup, a california roll, and a hidden dragon roll. Servings were quite large. I have never before left a sushi place with that "ooohhhhh. I ate too much" feeling. Prices were quite reasonable for the quality and quantity. All around a great experience. I'll be going back.

  • James S.

Good food, "reasonable" prices for sushi, and good service. Probably the first restaurant I've been to in a while that I would actually say was "full service". Unlike many Japanese and Sushi places, the helpings here are slightly on the generous side--that is to say, you don't immediately ask "Where's the rest of my food?" when you order a $12 item. The rolls are made with a good balance of ingredients--no one flavor dominates the others as is common at over-priced Sushi joints. Service was good--attentive, but not intrusive. Of course, I went on a Monday night and there weren't many folks there. I ordered a roll and an appetizer (another roll, basically) and that was enough to fill me up and cost about $21. A typical price for a Sushi place.

The best sushi on beachside. The flaming scallop is a great appetizer.

  • Bill B.

It was good for the area, small town area good. Everything we ordred was tasty. I had the squid salad appetizer which was my favorite. The server sucked..didn't know the menu had to go ask questions to the cook or other servers. Would I go back again? Yes, but I'd go to Nippon Thai or Siam Orchid before I'd go back here. Oh they almost let us walk out of there without a thank or come back again but at the last second we got one from our waiter serving someone on the patio. The host/hostess was nowhere to be seen when we left...

  • Jeffrey S.

Absolutely awful. I ordered the maki dinner. I received three rolls that were the worst sushi I've ever attempted to eat. I've gotten supermarket sushi that was better. It was Monday, and I suspect they either pre-made the sushi or got it from whomever supplies Publix with their sushi-in-a-box. The restaurant was very noisy - their exhaust hoods resonate throughout the whole place. I don't like to complain, but this was too much.

  • Sunshine W.

Good sushi, less than stellar service. We arrived at 8:45p and at 9:30p were being rushed out the door. Our waiter wasn't beating around the bush about it either. He had to get his side work done and the cashier was trying to cash out her til. The entire last 30 minutes of our visit couldn't have been more obnoxious or awkward. Learn manners Haru...or better yet... closer your doors at 7p if you're dying to get home in time for AFV. But don't be so insensitive on my special night next time. If there is a next time. Should have just gone to Nippon Thai.

  • D P.

Good Nigiri, Rolls a little pricey but tasty. Nice wine list and enough Saki's to chose from although they get pricey fast. Overall, I'd go again.
