This place is horrible everytime I come back it gets worse and worse. You ask someone to bring out more ham they roll their eyes and huff. No plates at all for 10 min and messes everywhere and the person at omelet station can't make a good one to save her life

one of the worst buffets ever......I live down the block and get dragged 2x a year... Just awful bland food that a seniors citizen home would be proud of. Last visit no ice... 1 of the water dispensers did not work... I could not eat half the food I tried to and the dishes on the table kept piling up and were never taken away by the waitress..

This place is a last resort if you're hungry, kinda broke and/or lazy and/or don't have a taste for anything specific, and like to people watch. The WEIRDEST people in South Florida (and possibly THE WORLD) eat here. If you consider yourself at least "kinda normal," YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. I mean, the food is average, but like I said before, if you're hungry and ya get a chance to load the hump, LOAD THE HUMP! (Thank you, "Curly Sue"!) No dish is "REALLY GOOD" here. Everything is manageable, kinda like Barry University cafeteria food (I went there, so I know - keep your backlash to yourself!). You can deal, though. I mean, I've never gotten food poisoning or died or anything (hence, my ability to write this review). Anyways, the drink machines seem to run out of ice (grrr!!!) and the floor by the drink machines are ALWAYS... FRIGGIN... WET!!! And you'd think that, since they have EMPLOYEES working there that someone may... oh, I donno... DRY MOP IT SO NO ONE BREAKS THEIR DAMN NECK WHILE REACHING FOR THE DIET COKE! Ha! I may be asking for too much. In fact, I KNOW I am but, hey, one can hope! However, they're nice enough to put a yellow "wet floor" sandwich board sign on top of the mess, which is always awesome to trip over when both hands are full with plates of chicken! Oh, and one of the desserts is good, but I can't remember which, so just don't eat any of them. Now, on to my "favorite" part: THE PEOPLE. Every Tom, Dick, and Psycho goes to this place! I think I have a sign on my forehead says: If your crazy guy wearing ball-hugging bermuda shorts that exhibit your man-muffin top, and haven't shaved/combed ur hair/cut ur nails/took a bath since Jesus came back and walk around with food smeared around your mouth, COME TALK TO ME! Mothers let their children run like wild farm animals and the old folks will damn near fight you for the last dinner roll! Bring your mace! Ok, I've said my piece, but you may see me there on a lazy, "too-tired-to-cook" day. If you do, be kind! Anyways, you'll be there, too! Judge not, lest ye be judged! :)

If you want to get sick and puke all afternoon, then eat here. Worst food poisoning in my life! :(

My family and I eat at Home Town Buffet maybe once or twice a month. It used to be a favorite, but sometimes to me, the food tastes really good at one time, then at other times, the food doesn't taste so good. Guess it all depends on whoever is doing the cooking. Then their desserts looks lame. The ice cream machine hardly works. They only have vanilla ice cream and I like chocolate.

Super gross don't go! The selection is nasty and they charge too much for nasty food! Don't go on Sunday either! Too crowded with people who go there after church! Not recommended!!

I have eaten at Home Town Buffet on Hallandale Blvd. many times and always found it to be a good bargain. Some people are so fussy and whiny making these reviews. I always found plenty of goodies that were appetizing; for me the dining experience was always great. Just don't eat so much that you get sick afterwards...eating out loads you down with sodium, etc., as well. For a great meal at a good price, this is the place.

Standard cafeteria fare - price friendly and popular with families and seniors. I didn't really care too much for the restaurant. There are a FEW entrees I would try but I can never get to the restaurant on the nights Steak and Pork Chops are on the menu. The restaurant's website is hometownbuffet.com

I ate here a couple of times because my kids school gave them free coupons. The food here is some of the grossest I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, I have had several bad experiences here and will not be returning. The purpose of having "shallow" pans of food on the buffet is to keep fresh food coming out to replace the empty pans. This concept is continuously mis managed at this location because of inattentive staff, or possibly because of lack of staff. Managers are nowhere to be seen when 50% of the buffet bars are empty, no plates or silverware or drink cups. On a Sunday afternoon with only 75% of the tables seated, this is particularly upsetting. I also observed several employees standing in the entrance to the kitchen with NO sense of urgency to solve the problem. When I asked for a Manager, they yelled back for "Sherrie" who took her time in responding. This manager was returning a cell phone to her pocket as she finally appeared. At this time, there were 14 customers standing around the bars and complaining about this same consistent problem at this location. Being greeted by the cashier who was eating her dinner at the cash stand was a clue to a bad experience all around. Why does HomeTown Corporate put up with this? When things are done correctly, this is a great brand and the perfect place to go if you want consistently good food that satisfies different appetites for a fair price in a clean environment. I have given this location 5 chances to provide me with a good customer experience. I will not give them another opportunity.

Dirty place! I had a dinner there and the next think I saw it's a Roach walking on my table. I called corporate office and they never called me back. I would never eat there again!

Against my better judgement I decided to give this place a try. I suffered foond poisoning from this place. Diarrhea and vomiting all day after. I should have known better when I saw the build up dust from the ceiling tiles that were dirtier than the interior of my mechanic's shop. The carpeting was filthy and the management acted like it was not there fault I was sick. Do yourself and family a favor and "AVOID" this place for your healths sake.

I wish I could give ZERO stars. The food was horrible and was too expensive. I would rather eat dog food. Even homeless people don't eat here.

It's the place to go for some cheap yummy eats.

  • Sarah M.

Just gross. The taco stand was nasty, the BBQ chicken was BBQ sauce slathered on breaded, fried chicken, mac & cheese was nasty, desserts were beyond disgusting. Many pans were empty, the staff was eating while working, and the bathrooms had plastic grocery bags in the feminine trash cans (minor, but it adds to the aura of general mismanagement). This place needs some serious, serious overhauling.

Nice variety of food. The best thing is the Bourbon chicken. That's out of this world! The rest wasn't bad but not spectacular. I would and have returned since.

If you did not catch the CEO on the Secret Boss TV show last year, you will not understand the huge changes he has made to his restaurants. To begin with, the food was never bad. I have eaten in some of the country's best restaurants and I am also a very good cook. The latest change is upgraded deserts in high class restaurant small cups. A few days ago, they had a few specials which included individual skillets of pulled pork and roast potatoes. Their fried chicken is good, not perfect, but good. They have steak every night which is tasty. They have Icees for the kids, a cappuccino machine, fresh fruit, soup, fresh iced tea, soda machines, friendly servers NOW walking around with miniature homemade chocolate chip cookies, danish and ??? Thank you CEO Anthony Wedo or the huge improvement. You raised a 2.5 star restaurant to a 3.5 star restaurant. You also give me hope that there are more pleasant surprises in store. I hope you will consider opening up a new, upscale chain of buffets (prices will be higher of course) for another alternative and for special occasions. Higher quality meats and a huge salad bar. Maybe you will even consider Organic! Regards, Mark Menachem

I looked at some of the negative reviews here on Yelp. To me Hometown Buffet is what it is. It's an inexpensive restaurant where you have a lot of different foods to choose from. Some is good, some isn't. My mom loves buffets and this is one of the places she always wants to go to. It's not my favorite restaurant, but I can find something I like. I love soup, and their soups are usually pretty good. Their salads are okay and so are the salad dressings. I love vegetables and theirs are pretty good. They usually have mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, string beans, and several other choices. As far as entrees there are always several to choose from. Their desserts are okay. They have soft ice cream, bakery items including a pretty tasty chocolate cake. On weekends they serve breakfast and it's usually pretty good. I do have some problems with Hometown Buffet. I have been there several times when they ran out of dishes and utensils. I've also been there when they're almost out of soup and they don't bring out fresh. The last time I was there they had a table set up for stir fry, but there wasn't anybody at the table to make the stir fry. Sometimes the service is good, sometimes your dirty dishes stack up without anyone clearing your table. I think you have better luck with food and service when you go for lunch on weekdays. It's not as busy, and their lunch choices are usually okay.

I didn't like it and definitely will not come back. Food is obviously not fresh! Mashed potatoes made from powder!!! I understand everything, chip food, u paying for what u're having, but come on! Is it so difficult to do fresh mashed potatoes??!! But anyway some food was okey. So if u starving and really don't care what to eat and care about price, u can go there...once;)

I had just moved and couldn't find food or clothing in my new home. I hadn't eaten all day, and figured 1 buffet could cover Blinner. What a wrong choice. After waiting on line to pay, I walked around the restaurant for 20 minutes looking for a seat. There were many empty ones but the tables were all dirty and I couldn't tell if the patrons were circling for more food or had departed. (-1star). So I figured I'll get some food first. There was lots of hot food but NO PLATES to be found anywhere! (-1star) Ok so now I'm debating between demanding a refund and being patient. I figured I'll fill up my water cup & wait. But NO ICE was left in the machine (-star). I was still too exhausted and hungry to leave and go somewhere else so I drank some lukewarm tap water and filled a tea cup with Mac and cheese. And waited it out. When the plates were finally brought out I went back and tried some cole slaw (good), seafood salad (rancid), an regular veggie salad. Most of the other dishes had bacon or other meats (even the beans and the green cooked vegetables), leaving very little in non meat options. Overall I overpaid for less than mediocre salad and Mac & cheese.

I am only, giving them one star because you can't get lower. I don't know why people say that the food has gotten better. I went on a Sunday afternoon for a quick lunch, no lunch on Sunday's so you pay dinner price. You would expect that dinner would be the better food. Really bad, most stuff was cold and sauced to death. The stuff that was hot was just not good. Would not repeat. Ever...

Used to be regular customers, last Friday will be our last visit. We went for lunch, most of the hot entree meats were out or so old they were congealed and we waited almost an hour for the buffet to be replenished and it was not. The ice cream machines were mostly out of order, dessert portions have been reduced, food is usually not up to health code temperatures. Servers try their best. The place has a terrible odor every time you first walk in to the place. I think this HB needs a major overhaul, but the head manager here doesn't seem to care if customers are unhappy he just shrugs it off.

You get what u pay for. Not bad food not anything special either. Tends Tends to be very crowded. The desserts are the best part

I used to come here all the time after leaving the beach and this place was great. WHAT HAPPENED??? I came here for dinner tonight and as soon as I walked to my table and smelled the odor coming from the carpet I knew this wasn't gonna go well. Walked up to the buffet and I didn't really see very many things I liked so I got the typical... Mac n Cheese, mash, chicken and cornbread stuffing. Mac n cheese was great, mash was lacking salt or any kind of flavor. Told one of the servers to call the manager and she actually yelled across the restaurant for the cashier (Egypt) to call the manager... Really??? Manager (Don) came over and asked what was wrong, asked how long we had been there and told us to go to the register where we got our money back. Didn't offer an apology or anything at all. You know I'm not coming back!

I come here at least once a month. It is what it is, cheap costing and pretty good variations. On the weekend the breakfast is one of the better ones in the area at a reasonable price. Must visit the Omelet Station. The cook is always in great spirits and very accommodating to one's food request. For dinner the steaks are cooked to order and are very tasty! There are plenty of sides to choose from and a big well stocked salad bar. The dessert bar has improved over the last couple of months. But if you don't find it to your liking they have soft ice cream that you can never go wrong with. The staff always acknowledges and greets the customers with with an inviting attitude! Improvements needed: Hire more wait staff to keep the dinning area clean and keep the dishes stacked and ready for the demands of the the customers. It's a pretty good neighborhood restaurant buffet with a clientele as diverse as the menu. A little bit of everything and together we dine! Gotta love it! Tip: Sign up for the discount coupons!

Don't trust the pictures they advertise! I went there twice and second time was terrible. Food is tasteless, service for cleaning table is slow. They often run out of beverage and plate and it takes time to refill. This time it's enough!

MY FAMILY AND I LOVE HOMETOWN BUFFET!!! I just wish they bring back the breakfast on Thursday night for family night...my daughter (7 years old) loves the chicken and waffles with syrup, my husband loves the unlimited omelette station, and I love that they are happy and I don't have to cook Thursday!

Terrible American style buffet. I think even Golden Corral is better then this place. NEVER - AGAIN.

Back for dinner on a Saturday evening. Both visits for free due to a friend having coupons. I gave lunch a 3 but I have to say dinner is a no no. I have been to several buffets around the country and this place is at the bottom of my list. At around $10, I guess you can't expect much, but for some reason they are pretty busy. No need to leave hungry as long as you are not picky about food quality.

Its true that gluttony is a sin, and buffets are temptations to those sins, but Hometown Buffet is off da chain, yo! Come on a weekday for lunch for under $10 deals, stay till they have to use a wheel barrel to carry you home.

One word: DREADFUL! The food here is on par with the trays of slop you could find in a nursing home cafeteria. Hometown Buffet symbolizes just about everything I loathe about your typical buffet: bland and greasy food, long lines, horrible quality. It escapes me how this place often has people lined outside the door, dying to get in. I ended up having to buy myself a second dinner that night.

Buffet restaurants are always a mystery and Hometown was no different. Walking in the place was overwhelming and huge. The Norman Rockwell paintings all over the walls brought a smile to my face and the friendly staff was very much a pleasant part of the meal. The fare was well prepared in that it was fully stocked and looked fresh. The vegetable and salad station was my go to this night as all the other options were either fried or meat intensive. They have a coffee bar and Icee machine for those who like their different beverages with their meal, and a generous desert bar and station with options you will enjoy. All in all, the place was nice and our eight person dinner party enjoyed and that is what was important.

The prices are OK here. I felt like despite the size of this place, the food choices were relatively limited. They had a standard salad bar, a bike your own taco stand, two smallish entree and side stands and a dessert area. The entrees are random and for the most part mediocre. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was especially tasty either. Believe it or not, I think my favorite thing I ate here was the grilled cheese sandwich. Hard to mess those up. The one noteworthy thing about this place (to me at least) is that they have an icee machine at the beverage station. Both my kids and I took full advantage of that unique feature. Overall, not terrible, but certainly not great either.

Smelled bad, like some real carpet funk going on. Place seems to attract a certain class of people that is indicative of slum. The staff were friendly, the food service was good, and most of the food was pretty good. Fried and baked chicken were hard and indigestible. The food serving was clean. Two kids belonging to the family behind us were running up and down between the tables, as if this was the track and field meet. I tried to ignore them, but honestly that's not what I go to restaurants to experience. Then one of the kids started crying loud and incessantly. I suppose in today's politically over-corrected climate we're supposed to pretend it didn't really happen. I took my friend here on Saturday on my recommendation, because in the past I found it satisfying and low cost. I'm probably not going to recommend Home Town again. It has gone the way of other similar buffets, like Golden Corral, which I notice a similar sour odor upon entering. I will find other, slightly more expensive buffets in better neighborhoods.

Celia was one of your customers and she is not mentally stable. The way y'all treated her when she came in this evening was ridiculous. Don't judge someone with out fully knowing someone first!

  • Tim F.

I usually go to this place for lunch, and for what you pay it is pretty good. No, this is not the most amazing food in the world. However, for around $7 bucks you're getting a good all-you-can-eat meal. The set up works well as opposed to a place like Golden Corral where you are always bumping into people. Me and my friends will walk into this place on a day when we have nothing to do and stay for a couple hours, and never has anyone said anything to us. If you are younger and want alot of food for a great price, I highly recommend this place. It is why I love it.
