Visited Wahoo the first time for lunch on a Sunday. We were initially sat on the hightops in the bar area, which it was nice to watch the afternoon sport events on the 4 TVs there. However, we were distracted by the multitude of flies that had buzzed around and set up home on the table next to us. It was quite disturbing, as they kept landing on our drinks, and wouldn't leave us alone, no matter how much shooing we performed. We ended up moving outside, because the other couple who had joined us had brought their dog. The staff were very accommodating with this, and had even brought the dog a bowl of water, since we were out in the hot Florida weather. Unfortunately, our move put us out of sight of the servers. Out of sight, out of mind, I suppose. It took awhile to bring our appetizer and lunch plates. I was still weary of the insect occupants that were seen inside, but since I was quite hungry, I dug in. I ended up getting the almond crusted salmon and my husband ordered the fried shrimp. They were both good, and worth the $8-12 per plate that we paid. Would I go back? This wouldn't be my first choice of restaurants in Gainesville. Sure, the food was good, accommodating staff was nice, but cleanliness and speed need a little touch up. Maybe after I have exhausted other restaurants, I would return, but I've had better seafood elsewhere.

Recently attended a birthday gathering...Food was great Drinks was Awesome.. Service was lousy...As a restaurant you should be prepare for this even with reservations it was not up to standard with service but I love the food and drinks though. May been and off night for them.

This was our first time at Wahoo's and we were not disappointed; even after about a 45 minute wait. Boom boom shrimp was excellent! Seafood jambalaya could have been a little spicier but was still very good. The wait staff are very friendly and attentive. The place was packed and with good reason. Great food with an upbeat atmosphere!

First experience at Wahoo and I can't see us going back again. Ordered the crab and shrimp appetizer ($8.95) with "tortilla chips" instead what we got was a bland, unseasoned bowl of crab and shrimp in mayo and cream cheese served with pita chips. The mixture of the dip was just not good. I tasted hints of cayenne pepper but so sporadically it almost seemed as though it was accidentally added. Incredibly heavy on the mayo and cream cheese - blech. Not worth the calories, honestly. I ordered the salmon burger which ended up being more of a "hide n seek" salmon burger - hardly any salmon to be found in the patty. And for $10.95 that included unseasoned, bland french fries my meal was highly disappointing. The lemon mayo spread on the salmon burger was so sparingly spread on my bread bun that I asked for more yet when I was brought some, it was so lemony I puckered up tasting it. And I'm typically a fan of lemon. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos which came out with 3 plentiful fish tacos piled high with toppings like tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage, and cheese. We even had to take 1 of them home to-go. Again this dish was served with the same tasteless french fries for $11.95. Other sides that would par better would be black beans & rice or coleslaw as an option, I think. Or hell just better tasting fries!!!! The server tried - sorta. She was nice & friendlyl, but new little about the drink options or wine details when I asked. Then after ordering a second round of drinks to finish our meal, she made us feel hurried by asking us if we were ready for the check. I hadn't even sipped my second glass of wine yet! We ended up not finishing our drinks. The atmosphere is different. It is a nice place but that's only because of the restaurant it took over that was far more upscale (a steakhouse). The artwork is just weird (think pencil sketches one looking like a man being chased by ants, or so I thought), yet there's elegant lighting....definitely not your standard seafood decor. I wanted this restaurant to be so much better because there's been frequent turnover during the years at this venue, but man oh man, Wahoo isn't the perfect fit either.

Great food! Just had a shrimp po' boy and hush puppies. The outdoor patio is really nice. Our server was pleasant and checked up on us several times. Will definitely come back.

Awesome lunch. Love the boom boom tacos and gator tail. Only 8.99 for the tacos during lunch and delicious. Have been a few times for the all you can eat crab legs on Mondays and even though it isn't cheap, it's a great value for the quality of crab. If you come hungry you won't be disappointed. Great quality crab and reorders come out fast and include all the corn and potatoes you can eat as well. Boom boom shrimp is a must try and if you like gator tail you won't be disappointed with what they have to offer.

Service was slow but our waitress was friendly and attentive. Ordered the Boathouse, their $39.99 fried seafood platter, with creamed collard greens (way too salty, hot mess) and cheese grits (tasty). Compared to Cedar River their seafood portions were relatively small; heavy on the fish, light on the scallops and oysters, and there seemed to be three big Idaho potatoes worth of fries underneath which made it look a lot bigger than it actually was. It was tasty but not as satisfying as other places.

Delicious Crab legs; crab cakes were Ok ...... But the Hushpuppies were Delicious. The server was very professional, pleasant, and efficient (thank you Lindsay!).....the runner however, didn't seem to understand that we needed silver wear to eat the food she placed before us. No harm done. Great set up ( live music) and good food. The place is clean and ladies room was well maintained. The Crab Bisque was The Best! We will return!

We stopped here for the 3rd time while driving through to Ft Myers. The gator is delicious. Ron, the manager and his staff is super attentive. The service was quick and food was great. I had the salmon and the mango rice was awesome. I'll be back again.

Our first time dining here First impressions are nice decor and nice layout it's a good location Service by my accord was slow to extremely slow The food quality was really only a five of 10 stars The manager drop by and asked how our food was I asked if the shrimp was frozen or fresh he said the boom boom shrimp was frozen and the 1 pound of boiled shrimp was fresh I will give him the benefit of the doubt that the boiled shrimp was fresh but to me it looks and tastes frozen All in all this was really only a solid three of five stars If service was better I might've taken it up a half a star if food was a little better and less greasy would get a full four stars Additionally we found our food to be a little on the salty side

I had the Wahoo Roll and the Grouper Gillen and both were very good. I would go back.

  • Ed W.

This place is awesome. I got the gumbo for a soup and the fried oysters for my main. The gumbo was really good, as were the fries. The cole slaw was also good. The hush puppies were doughy and not very good. Also, the fried oysters seem to be more breading and less oyster. The service was really good. All in all I would come back, but would probably not get the fried oysters again.

Strange location, but very close to 75. I had a salad with chicken a grilled wings in medium sauce, all was very good. I highly recommend their balsamic dressing. The bartender was friendly and quickly took our order and made sure our drinks were always full. It was a bit on the pricey side, but it was a very good lunch.

Best and probably only place in gainesville that has raw oysters. Each time I've been it has been packed, which goes to show how good their seafood is. Parking is a bit odd because you have to park in the grass lot because the parking lot has very few spots. Has a great vibe to it as well.

I wish we could give half stars, I would rate them 3.5. We were seated immediately and then there was a 15 minute wait. No drinks no service, just plenty of people walking out the the patio. Once our waitress did come to take our order, ordered our drinks appetizer and had questions on our main dishes. After placing the order there was another long wait. Sad part, yes it was Easter Sunday but there were not busy. We they were not slammed packed. Other than us, it was only 1 other table being used in the section where we were. When the food came..... I enjoyed my salmon over rice and the side of okra. OKRA IS THE BEST I have ever had a a restaurant hands down!!!!!!! My husband wasn't impressed, he said its was just like Cedar River to him. He had the fried shrimp and scallops (which wasn't offered any other way). I am going back for the okra alone.

Wahoo's is awesome! Great atmosphere and delicious food. I recommend the gator tail and the crab cake sandwhich. I'm definitely going back. #VEP2015

Easy on off exit 390 off of I-75! Great wait staff and excellent food. I had a fresh grilled grouper sandwich with fries, my husband had the Crab BLT with fried green tomatoes and a cole slaw side-everything was yummy! And the bathrooms were updated and clean. They have a terrific large outside porch seating and deck seating. This will definitely be a regular stopping place for us!!

  • Kurt K.

It's a do over. Exit 390 if you are passing through Gainesville FL. The gator and calamari appetizers were tender and delicious. Should have just stuck with that. Order the fresh fish sandwich and I had a hard time finishing it. Oh yeah the steamed oysters were large and good. Wish it was winter to try them raw. Crab cake sandwich is good value and the family enjoyed it. The cheeseburger passed the 13 year olds discerning palate so it can't get any better than that. Then even offered to fix us to go drinks. Farmers a very rare five star rating.

Wahoo should be named Boohoo. I took my husband, father & mother, and both of my in-laws for a farewell meal in Florida. We opted to sit inside due to the heat & humidity outside. That was a mistake. It was warmer inside than outside. I asked our server if it was always that warm inside and she simply replied "yes". We waited 10 minutes for our server to come to our table to greet us and another 30 minutes for 2 drafts beers and 1 margarita. No apologies from the server- just a statement that the bar was backed up. The food arrived as ordered and it was good but pricey. It's too bad the service was slow and inside was stifling. We will not return.

We had a fantastic night Friday night here. The live music was great and just the right volume. The waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered the Jambalaya and Parmesan crab topped mahi mahi. The Mahi was AMAZING! Crispy blackened on the outside juicy on the inside and the topping was so creamy. *Drools* The jambalaya had a nice spice to it but was not over the top powerful. Nothing tasted fishy or frozen. We stuffed ourselves! I saw several of the boils delivered to tables around us and they smelled fantastic. I almost wish we had gotten one of those but I think we're gonna try one next time. So far this is my FAVORITE seafood place in Gainesville by FAR. Best food, atmosphere and staff!

Close to I-75, awesome food and service. We stopped here as we were several hours away yet from our final vacation spot, and we wanted seafood. Everything was great. we sat in the sun on the patio to eat lunch; so relaxing and great ready-to-vacation vibe. All of our food was great! Quick, attentive service. Clean restrooms. Would definitely return!

Traveling through...found it online and read the reviews first. We really liked this place! Our server was excellent! We had the sesame wahoo for an appetizer, which was delicious. I had the boiled shrimp and the cheesy grits. I eat gluten free and there was not many options which was no surprise. My friend had the jambalaya and thought it was good. We loved the casual atmosphere. There are big screen TV's in the dining area (which I usually HATE) but this time we got to watch Sweden beat Portugal in Under 21 European World Cup Mens Soccer, so that was pretty cool. Two definite thumbs up!

  • K N.

Not that good. But not that bad either. The calamari could be better (seems like the cooking oil being used to fry the calamari is old/used enough that makes the calamari taste not that good).

Based on food and atmosphere, this was a good evening out. Can't recommend based on staff. We sat out on the deck with a blues guitar player just starting. Room for a two year old and grandpa to wander. Ordered a boil that had everything. Split by 4 adults, the lobster and shrimp were plenty and so crawfish, potatoes, crab legs and corn on the cob were satisfying. Well prepared meal. I liked spicy dip sauce along with hot butter. Now, we called ahead to check on wait. Was told none. Got there and was told that there had been wait for hour and the hostesses would have not told callers that. "Did we call right place?" Wait was 25 minutes per hostess and text system. With hungry two year old, got in car to go when text said table was ready????. Saw more than one open. Short staff or poor managers? Other Yelp users reported same. Wait staff were uninspiring. When drinks were set down, the margaritas were swapped. When I questioned waitress, she said server would not have made a mistake. MIA most of time.

What The Heck So after driving by this place several times and thinking it was abandoned, we tried it after a friend said that it was awesome. We went and tried the shrimp and crab boil with sausage and it was excellent! We were seated quickly and service was fast and good. We've been several times now and can't comment on anything but the crab, shrimp and sausage boil (it's so good we just don't order anything else). The only negative was that we were excited to sit and eat on the patio, but people smoke there, so it chased us away from having another drink after dinner. Otherwise, great!

So we had read some reviews that were not so good but we had also read some that were great so we gave it a try...place was busy and we had a small wait that was so worth it . We ordered the super boil....2 lobsters crawfish shrimp crab corn potatoes OMG was it freakin great . Loved everything . our server was Jaime and she was great too super friendly. Come eat here ignore the poor reviews I work in hospitality and there was nothing to complain on in this establishment!!!!! 10 stars if I could!

Just tried this restaurant and it was good. Decor is simple, silverware wrapped in large, soft washcloths which you will most definitely need if you get one of the boil buckets. Service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Ordered 2 drinks one of those a habenaro cucumber margarita. Nice spice without destroying the cucumber taste. Had the crab bisque.....yum. Good flavor with a lot of crab. Also tried the seafood stew, not great but ok. Broth was to salty with a single clam, mussel and scallop along with 2 small pieces of fish and 2 shrimp. Would have been better with less salt and more broth, but good. For entree we had the fish and chips, fish a little over cooked but flavorful. Side of Mac and cheese good but lacking on the cheese. Hush puppies were good also. The other dish we tried was the swamp boil. It consisted of craw dads, shrimp, snow crab, sausage, corn on the cob and potatoes. May be too spicy for some palates but you could ask them to tone it down. They say the boil platters are for 2 but this isn't true.....they would easily feed 3. Everything in the boil was great except the craw dads were a little over cooked. Prices are so so. Walked out after having 3 drinks, 2 soups and 2 entrees, (one of which could have fed 3) for $89.00 + tip. They seem to be off to a fair start and hope they get better with time. Will go back to see how things shake out.

LOVE this place!! Best (and heathy) along-the-highway food I've had. Don't mind the mixed reviews-- you just gotta know yourself and order to suit your taste. I'm a healthnut yogi/athlete, so I got half a swamp order with crab legs, shrimp, crawfish with corn and potatoes. Everything was boiled, crawfish seasoned just right, and potatoes/corn had great tasting sauce at bottom of plate. Seafood tasted fresh and never frozen. No heartburn here! :) Also, the servers checked up me constantly, swapped plates for clean ones, refilled my drink, etc even though I sat outside. They even gave me a to-go cup for my tea. Sweet, thoughtful touch :) 5 stars experience! Will def stop in on my way back to TX.

Friendly staff and good bar atmosphere. Don't expect a unique culinary experience but this is a great place to have drinks after work. Live music outside when there is warmer weather.

Arrived to find people waiting outside despite the fact that I called 20 minutes before and they said there was no wait. Was told it would be a 30 minute wait for a table for 4 although I saw half a dozen tables that were clean and empty. Service was dismal at best. It took forever to get food. Waited 20 minutes for a draft beer. Kids food was barely warm. We had the Swamp boil which was very good despite taking a long time to get. We presented a coupon to be used with the bill which the waitress failed to credit on the bill. The staff seemed as if they were all new. I never saw anyone who resembled a manager overseeing anything. I provided my phone number to the hostess which they use to text you when your table is ready and I received a follow up text at 1:30 am to ask for feedback on my visit. I would consider trying again if I'm in no hurry because the food was ok but I would not recommend to anyone.

This restaurant is the BEST in Gainesville. We dined there recently with our family and everyone loved their food! The drinks were perfect, the catfish was moist and tender, the salad crisp and fresh. The ahi tuna gently seared. Did I say how perfect the tuna was! This seems to be a challenge in most restaurants! The service was excellent! Did I mention the music on the patio? Now you can dine and hear great jazz/blues as you enjoy your meal. Love this place.

Average at best. Everything was ok but nothing special. Slow service. My wife ordered the all you can eat crab legs. The guy that brought the 2 order just carelessly dumped them on a plate with half eaten food and shells. No vegetarian options except salad. Crowded and noisy. Overpriced for the overall experience. Not coming back.

Very good food. Better than any Joe's Crab Shack or Red Lobster we've been to lately. The crab bisque is excellent. The salad choices are good. The snow crab and shrimp steam pot was Excellent. The service was a little slow but the food is worth it. We will make this a regular stop on our Florida-Georgia trips.

Dined on Sun @ 5:30, party of 6. No wait. Service was prompt & attentive. Nice selection of daily specials incl drinks, apps, & entrees. We had blackened mahi mahi special w/cheese grits side, both very tasty & ample. Also crayfish etoufee special, nicely prepared & ample. Both ~$16-20. Drink specials included well mixed drinks @ $2, local draft beer @ $3, more. One at our table had double burger & fries that was pronounced excellent & was shared 2-ways. Many big TVs over bar but ambience was fairly quiet. Some dishes were much pricier on the reasonable-sized but nicely varied menu w/several unique selections. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

Ever since Wahoo opened a few months ago, I have continued going back as a very happy customer. Even though I am unfortunately allergic to shellfish, which is in a large percentage of their food, I have been able to find other dishes that I just love. They've also been very accommodating with my allergy, making necessary substitutions when asked. I've regularly ordered the hazelnut pasta etouffee with fresh catch, blackened fish tacos, jambalaya without the scallops and shrimp, and occasionally the build your own salad if I want something lighter. Everything always turns out delicious! I'd say the only disappointing thing about the food is that they changed their original calamari appetizer, and the newer one isn't nearly as good as what they used to have (not horrible, but not any different than what you can find at any boring chain restaurant). Happy hour is definitely the time to go if you want to enjoy their alcoholic beverages. I actually LOVE the habanero margarita, but yes, it is spicy as its name suggests. I have tried several of their other specialty drinks and martinis and have never been disappointed. In addition to being yummy, they also always look pretty and are reasonably priced. The service is always friendly, although I have had one or two not so great experiences where the server neglected our table for lengthy periods of time. But the general manager who seems to always be there (I think his name is Rob or Ron) has always been incredibly attentive and not too hard on the eyes either ;-) Definitely would recommend to anyone who enjoys a casual environment with good seafood and live music on some nights. Wish I would have taken the time to review them sooner. 5 stars!

I would actually give 3.5 starts if I could. I won't hurry back yet I would go if asked. Why? Well, first of all, the server didn't tell us about the specials. We didn't know there were any until after we'd ordered and we heard the other waiter tell the next table about them. I would have liked one of the specials. My son had been there before and warned the fried platters were way too much breading, so we shared a swamp boil of crawfish, shrimp, and crab legs. I think it cost $42. She urged us to add sausage for something like $5 more but we didn't. All 3 items were a little overcooked but had a nice flavor. We each got 4 or 5 crawfish, 5 or 6 shrimp, and a snow crab cluster with 4 legs, plus a potato and small ear of corn. We weren't stuffed when we finished, but satisfied. I'm not sure it was worth that price, though. This place can get quite expensive if you add an appetizer. There was a nice patio but most of the people were smoking so we stayed inside.

Update: I ate here Sunday night on the patio again with a party of three. The service was very poor. nothing like it was a few months ago. The table next to ours got up and left after being seated for 20 min without any drink orders or menus...nothing. My table fortunately had a different server, but it took abnormally long for everything we ordered. The place wasn't packed and there were empty tables inside and out. The food was still great. But the service was really slow. Not sure if this was a one time thing..maybe they were short staffed idk.

An underwhelming dining experience!! Kitchen was extremely slow in preparing our food and when the food finally did arrive( almost an hour later), the grouper was undercooked. Étouffée portion was very small. THE ABSOLUTE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!

  • M C.

I'm very surprised this only has 3 stars! My meal was phenomenal. I got the boom boom shrimp tacos and asked if I could get the mango coconut rice as my side (it's not on the list of sides but is served in their salmon meal). Both were outstanding. One of my dining partners got the crab cake sandwich and I sampled it--I wouldn't rate it as high as what I got, but it was good. Other dining partner got fried oysters--wish I could give a report but I can hardly stand to be at the same table with oysters!

Have eaten here 3 times, twice on the porch, once inside. The food is very good with a wide range of selections. The oysters are way too large, resulting in a not so good flavor. The Wahoo is served several different ways and is quite good. Service can be sketchy. For some reason the young hostesses want to shuttle older patrons to a remote back room, not happy with this arrangement. Overall not as good as Ballyhoo.

This restaurant seems to operated entirely by "rookies" and I hope diners in Gainesville are patient and tolerant. The basics are there.....but any level of finesse is absent. Our recent visit was punctuated by less then poor service....a strange appetizer experience....and ok food. The appetizer was fish dip served with just a few corn chips. The server disappeared for 5 minutes when we asked for additional chips....but returned to tell us he couldn't bring additional chips. He offered out party of four cellophane wrapped crackers...two each. Entrees arrived soon...but no silverware. A trip to the kitchen door was needed to get four " setups". The food was basically adequate, no inspiration. On the positive side the deck is pleasant and we enjoyed to company of our friends. Bon appetit!

Ok, I agree with other reviews. The food was bland. The crab bisque was the best part of our meal. The barbecue grouper was bland and not tasty. The service is slow even when it was not busy.

If you like fried seafood, Wahoo will appeal to you. If you are looking for grilled options -- forget it. We ordered the Boathouse -- the complete meal for 3: fried fish, french fries and Hushpuppies. Nothing but fried food in that meal, and I was sorry that I ate it.

I had high hopes, but was disappointed. Being from New Orleans, I am always skeptical when I hear a restaurant in this area has Boiled shrimp or crawfish, and for good reason. At $8.99 a pound, or $40 for a "pot", the crawfish are SEVERELY over priced, small, and flavorless. Seasoning goes INTO the boiling water, NOT sprinkled on the outside after they are cooked!!! I don't think they have heard of liquid crab boil in this state. Anyway, the shrimp and grits were ok, but had WAY too much liquid smoke flavoring added. I don't see us going back anytime soon, they should give larger portions for the price.

The food was delicious but the service was a bit slow.... Only saw the waitress twice. When she took our ordered and dropped off the food. Didn't get a refill on water; and i'm the type of person who is always drinking water at a resturant. Prices were reasonable. We had the blacken fish tacos and boom boom shrimp. Both very tasty. The crawfish were huge! didn't expect them as large as they were. Seasoning was appropriate. Only complaint was i didn't really care for the claws that came with it, would have prefered more whole crawfish.

Been here twice, both times very happy! First time I had the Boom Boom shrimp and 2 absolutely icy cold beers!!! Perfect ending to a hectic workweek! Brought my husband back, a seafood addict! He has eaten seafood in Seattle, New Orleans, Alaska and most of Florida! He knows his stuff. He left very happy after enjoying the Swamp Boil! Give it a try! You will enjoy:)

OMG - what a great, great, great DISAPPOINTMENT. Do we know what good dining is in this town? Get there and was looking around at the folks sucking on the meatless, skeletal crab legs. Sure $25 for all you can eat snow crab legs is a great deal, in theory, but if you have to sit there and suck till you're blue in the face trying to suck out some sort of meat from those sickly empty legs, then it's worthless. The grouper at market price of $18 was a timid 3 to 4 ounces on a bed of 2 ounces of grilled -- almost burnt brussels sprouts. The fish tacos were edible, but you can find much tastier ones in your local restaurants absent the overly priced tag. As for the fried calamari -- PLEASE don't deep fry calamari in sesame seed oil AND don't serve with a combo homemade sauce of mayo and ketchup. Bottom line -- won't return.

I went on a Monday night around 8:30 pm and some of the waitresses were closing their area for the night. They were talking loud and yelling to each other next to our table. One girl sweeping her section actually swept the dirt on my feet and with a cavelier tone asked,"did I just sweep debris on your feet?" (no apology). I ordered almond encrusted salmon that was served raw in the center. My server had the owner/cook come to our table. He smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot. He asked what I would like instead and apologized. I ordered prime rib. My waitress asked,"he let you order that?!?" We never discussed it but why is it a problem? I Ordered it medium well and it came out blood red raw. I now see the owner/cook sitting at the bar with drink in hand and it makes perfect sense. He came again to apologize and begged me not to give him a hard time because they are new. He insisted I try his other resturant Vellos "because it runs smoothly" I told him how the girl had swept dirt on my feet and he asked "that's bad isn't it? I would also tell parents this is mostly a bar environment & that their mac and cheese has pepper and jalepenos in it. Another unusual feature is rather than a tradtional dinner napkin they serve a fluffy washcloth. Some people might find this cute but I dont. Who wants to use a washcloth that someone else used no matter how well you launder it? Honestly, if you want to eat in a divey loud atmosphere yet also eat flavorful well cooked food then just drive down 39th a little more. Nothing that ever opens in this location survives and I think at this rate Wahoo will befall the same curse. Bland undercooked food, terrible service, loud, with an unprofessional intoxicated "chef".

Wahoos is good. The oysters are great, especially with the Wahoo seasoning. I've had fish and chips and a crab leg boil. Both were worthy of their price tag. It's a good seafood option on the west side.

We went to this restaurant simply because it was near the hotel where we were staying. I did not have high expectations especially because we were going to have a large party. I was pleasantly surprised ! The moment we walked in the hostess could not have been nicer. She told us that since we were a large party she was going to give us our own room and she hoped that was okay. She immediately took us back to the room. So many restaurants make you wait for your WHOLE party to arrive. As soon as we got in the room a waitress appeared. We asked her if we could get separate checks. She could not have been nicer about it as she told us yes. Usually with a large party and separate checks something suffers. This was not so. The best part was that the food was awesome! I had the fish tacos and they were the best fish tacos I have ever had. We had about 25 in our party and every single person agreed that their meals were fabulous. This restaurant is just off the highway so if you are travelinghrough the area stop here! Also, I am a big Anthony Bourdain fan and I know good food.

My husband and I visited this restaurant for our first time tonight, and we were absolutely amazed at how great the food was. We ordered a pound of snow crab for an appetizer (should've done the 1/2 lb but we both really wanted crab!) and it was absolutely delicious. It had the right amount of ole bay seasoning, clarified butter was perfect, and it was exactly what I was craving for crab. Tasted very fresh. I then had the panko crusted grouper and hubby had the snapper. Both were huge pieces of fresh fish, and absolutely amazing. I had the blackberry moonshine drink and hubs had some kind of draft beer with fat in the title, wish I could recall the name. Drinks were excellent! Service was almost perfect, only issues were drinks took awhile, crab was initially served with no clarified/tools for cracking/plates (but waitress noticed quickly that kitchen brought it out like that), and waitress had to be reminded to bring tartar sauce. She was handling a table of 10 or so right next to us, so I feel she did a pretty good job. We went on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty busy. I'm so glad I live and work near this restaurant! Cheaper and better than bonefish! Also, bar area had a wall of bigscreen tvs for sports viewing.

They have only been open two week so I am hoping things will improve because I believe the potential is there. It is much brighter inside since it was Chophouse. My friend and I could not figure out if they had added lighting or a skylight. There is a nice bar area with TVs and they were not so loud that you could not converse from the dining room. We had a crab cake app that was flavorful but the cakes did not hold together then we split the Beefzilla (their special burger & Prime Rib sandwich on two grilled cheese sandwiches. In a word we were underwhelmed. It was cold and much more bread than meat, we cut it in half and all the meat went to her half and I had a sliver. The fries were listed as hand cut but they looked like frozen crinkle cut and tasted the same. We had to ask for ketchup twice and our salt shaker was empty too. I will wait a while before going back and hope it improves and these are just new restaurant growing pains.

We were pleasantly surprised as some of the reviews had been very negative. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient, the food--calamari, fish and chips, fish tacos--was nicely prepared and very ample, and the prices were reasonable. The only thing lacking, in our opinion, was their having something uniquely theirs, something to distinguish them from Bonefish or Cedar River.

Worst experience ever! For a Sunday night, we figured it wouldn't be crowded. It wasn't crowed at all and decided to sit at one of the tables in the bar area. Some how there were several servers working the bar area. We were the unlucky ones who had the bartender serving us and working the bar. (There were only 2 other tables in the bar area) after sitting there for about 10 minutes and didn't even get water or menus should have given us a clue. Long story short, we waited 30 minutes for our food. A lady at the next table sent back her ceviche saying it was disgusting. The bartender came to our after we were sitting there for 45 minutes and said there was a miscommunication in the kitchen and our food would be out soon...now sitting there for 55 minutes we finally decided to leave. We couldn't even get a server, manager anyone to even give us the bill for the one coke we did have! We will never come here again and I will be sure I let everyone I know to never come here! I honestly wonder how long it took them to notice that we even left. I would have had more respect for the bartender/server if she admitted she forgot to put the order in. We ordered soup, wings, calamari and chicken fingers. We left and went to Bonefish!

I'm very surprised to see these negative comments. Over priced? Really? I just ate a giant piece of fresh grilled grouper with an amazing salad for $12.95. If you think that this place is expensive you may just want to stick to fast food. So far I've been there 4 times and it's been perfect every time. My wife and I just returned from a vacation at St. Augustine Beach where we couldn't find a decent fried shrimp to save our lives. Little did we know they were less than 5 miles from our house! If you want some fresh seafood this place is perfect. I'm not saying that it's gourmet but it's darn good seafood at fair prices. I plan to eat there often and I'm happy that a great restaurant finally moved into that great location.

Had a fabulous meal. The service was great. My mother also took my 100 grandmother for lunch the other day and she fell in love with. They all went out of their way help her. And she has told us she is ready to go back the food was so good.

We stopped in here on our way back to Dallas to have dinner. The service was a little slow and the restaurant wasn't super busy. Our waitress seemed like she'd rather be somewhere else and failed to bring things that we asked for or refill our drinks - at all. I had the fried oyster platter and it was a huge disappointment. The oysters were pretty non-existent, they were all batter. My brother had the Beefzilla - be warned! This thing is EPIC! A burger patty, topped with sliced roast beef and sandwiched in between 2 Texas Toast grilled cheese sandwiches. RIDIC. They really don't need the Texas Toast for this...regular bread would work better (my bro couldn't even figure out how to attack the dang thing) and still be as impressive. He did say it was tasty, if just a little too bready. All in all, I would try Wahoo again to see if it was a bad night or the standard state of food & service there.

Went. To Wahoo after a doctor's appt. I've always been leery of shrimp and grits because I've never had any I liked, but thought I would try it. WOW! It was so good I wanted to clean the plate, but had to take half to go. My friends had the fish & chips. That was some of the best fried fish I've ever tasted. They were very pleased. We also got to taste the Boom Boom Shrimp appetizer. It was excellent. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We will definitely be back. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We were driving from Florida to Atlanta. It is right off the expressway. The decor is good. The service was good. The Foos was 3 out of 5. The kale salad was not edible. The waitress replaced it with another side with no question. I would stop again. Reasonable prices

Wife and I went to Wahoo last night for the first time. I was told by friends in advance that it was OK, but overpriced. Yep, that about sums it up. I had friend scallops with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The scallops were fine and the sides were acceptable, if a little bland. Fine is also the right adjective to apply to my wife's shrimp and grits. If the prices were 25% lower, I'd give them 3 stars. There was one good deal though - $1.42 Bud drafts.

We love this restaurant on Sunday afternoon! Atmosphere is laid back and you can sit inside or outside on the porch. Both areas have charm. They offer many specialty drinks, full bar, beer and wine. Special offers almost every day of the week. Today they were doing bottomless mimosas for $12. The Boom-Boom Shrimp is very good and compares well with Bang Bang Shrimp or Firecracker Shrimp from other restaurants we frequent. The House-Made Burger is available in 1/2 lb., 3/4 lb., 1 lb. sizes and you pick your flavor of cheese. Sauteed onions or bacon can be added for an up charge. The burger is huge and delicious and comes with one side. To name just a few, sides are Mac & cheese, cheese grits, creamy coleslaw, sautéed okra, cold kale salad, and collard greens. Fries are also available, but why would you? Our service was efficient and pleasant. They have several runners that bring the food out. Highly recommended!

Decided to drop in for lunch on a late August Friday afternoon. Not surprisingly, the place was only lightly populated, but the servers were friendly and the music was enthusiastic. This is a place you pretty well need to know where it is in order to find it, tucked in off a small side road just outside of I-75. But once you're there, you find ample parking and a wide porch that will be busy once the temperatures cool a little in the fall. Lunch was . . . okay. Spouse found his choices pretty limited due to being gluten free. (This is unusual at a seafood place, where there are usually lots of wheat-free options, but here even the shrimp-and-grits are made with flour.) However, he was happy with a nicely cooked piece of mahi and a large portion of slaw that was finely shredded and lightly dressed, just the way he likes it. I didn't do so well, which was a bit disappointing, as it was my birthday lunch. I enjoyed a cup of crab bisque, which is smooth, thick and creamy with a good dollop of crab on top - and a bite to make you sit up and take notice but not so much that you can't taste the crab. If I make it back here, this will definitely be a repeat choice. To carry out the apparent crabby theme-of-the-day, I chose the crab cake appetizer, which I will not repeat - two huge crab cakes cooked pretty black (read charred), and so spicy that the taste of the crab was completely obliterated. The bread coating was quite thick, but when I cut the cakes open, I could see good-sized chunks of crab -- just couldn't really taste it with all the heat. Comes with a generous portion of remoulade sauce -- I'll leave comments on that to someone who generally enjoyed it. I should add that there were two nearby tables of 6-8 folks each, who were enjoying one another's company very loudly, so we between that and the music we were unable to chat much over lunch.
