The main bartender knows about beer, but beyond that there are better and cheaper beer bars in Gainesville. The staff is about as friendly and welcoming to new customers as the bar stools themselves. A lot of the clientele stays on their cell phone conducting business instead of enjoying their time at the classy joint. The drinks are priced alright, but better deals can always be found at a bar with 20 less taps and they are always more eager to give you free samples to educate you on beers and expand your beer palate. The Brass Tap is stuffy and not in a good, mature way

Very good selection of beer. I like having multiple stouts to choose from, so I'm happy. Staff has been adequate. Nothing memorable good or bad on that front. I go there with friends sorta often. The times I've heard live music there it wasn't good, but wasn't distractingly bad. Basically, I'm there for the beer. It is pretty pricey but I'm a beer snob, so I expect that with the selection.

Highly recommended for a wide selection of craft beers, including a solid roster of local brews. Very unassuming location in a newer shopping complex across from Butler Plaza, but the inside has some decent "bar" ambience. A wall of taps and two fridges stocked with a unique assortment of bottles greets you upon walking in...definitely no shortage of options here. The menu changes frequently, so be prepared. This is positively awesome for trying new beers on a regular basis, but can generate a bit of disappointment when you find a gem and would like to try it on a follow-up visit (yes, this is nit-picking). Overall a very solid establishment within the Gainesville craft beer scene. Great if you want a relatively quiet (compared to downtown/near campus) place to down a few brews and catch a game, hang out with friends, etc. Now if they only served food...

Nice selection of tap beers. Very good service. Although a "college town" hang out, the servers give you plenty heads up of what to expect from the masses. Disappointed that was no food at this location, would have been a five star.

I cannot say enough great things about Brass Tap. My boyfriend joined the Brew Crew, which at the time I thought was silly, but after 300+ beers now, I realize how much that has really paid off! Amazing perks throughout the week for Brew Crew members and for reaching each level of the club. The bartenders are always super friendly and helpful at helping us pick out what we would like (they know our tastes at this point!). I was never a beer drinker, and though I stick with "fruity" beers and ciders, they have helped me expand my knowledge and palate of craft beers. This is by far our favorite bar in Gainesville and definitely worth swinging by when in town! Special shout out to Spencer who always takes care of us!

Pulling into a strip mall, I was hesitant to park & walk into 'The Brass Tap' unsure if it could be a cool, beer bar like I was anticipating. Well, I was wrong. 'The Brass Tap' was a cool, dark, intimate bar specializing in a wide variety of draft beers from across the country and a small amount of global brews. Our server Robert was friendly & helpful in helping my dad & I figure out what we wanted to order since the menu is huge and overwhelming. My dad went with a $10 beer flight of local Gainesville brew (you choose any 4 draft beers - it's a deal). I went with a tangerine beer from Eureka, CA - it was delicious & not too sweet or light. There was a duo setting up to play when we walked in and once they started, it was great. This guitar player/vocalist and drummer were not too loud or in your face and played covers + original country/rock tunes. I hate going into a bar with extremely loud music where you can't even have a conversation without exhausting your vocal chords. Only thing I would suggest is adding a small bar menu. An early evening drink calls for something to down it with, maybe wings or pretzels. I know that they allow you to pick up from Chipotle or Bento Cafe (both in the same shopping center), but neither compliment the beer. If you're a beer snob or just want to explore different kinds of brew while in Gainesville, I'd suggest stopping by 'The Brass Tap.'

Great tap house in the true sense. No food just beer. Excellent service with tons of micros to try. Will come back. They let you bring your own food when you get the munchies. A lot a good places around the place so no issues.

This establishment appears to be entirely OK with overly drunk patrons trying to fight those of us who are merely trying to enjoy a game of Golden Tee. My group was in on January 29 and had a great time until some obviously over served individual came up to our group to ask the time. My friend told him and when I repeated the time, not hearing my friend, he stared me down and started asking if I was f*cking with him and if I was serious. This obviously s*itfaced idiot continued to get in my face while nobody did anything to deal with it except for us, and I stood up to the moron. I will not fault the establishment for what they could not see. What I will fault them for is how they reacted after I told them what happened. I told a bartender that an idiot got in my face and his response was that he was really drunk. Well who over served this meathead? YOU DID. And apparently I am supposed to bear the brunt of that so I guess I am liable to be accosted by someone asking the time. There is a total lack of oversight here and apparently future patrons will have no protection in the event some drunk asshole decides they pissed him off for no reason. Our group was sitting at a table playing Golden Tee. We brought none of this on ourselves but according to the bartenders WE were the assholes because we should just accept the guy was drunk. I will never come back here.

Decent selection of drafts. Lots of bottles. Too many TVs. Knowledgeable staff. There's a Tuesday night trivia that's kind of loud and annoying but fairly popular.

Only real tap room on this end of Archer Road featuring 60 tap beers which rotate occasionally. Nice video setup for watching sporting events. Food delivery available from several nearby restaurants.

I would give them four stars because their service was excellent, the beer selection was excellent, and they even had a very rare beer (Bells Barrel Aged Batch 9000). WOW! Very outstanding and rare beer! My only complaint is we also ordered an Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout. It too was exceptional, however, they charged me $25 for a 22 oz bottle. Well, I stopped by ABC liquor store tonight and they had the exact same beer for $9.99 per bottle. I don't mind paying a little more for a good beer while out on the town but $15 premium is a bit high. Minus one star for gouging.

Great selection of FL beers on tap and the prices aren't too bad. I was there on a Friday night, it wasn't too noisy. Funny story, while sitting in there, there were some bigger groups there. Each group had a good mix of 50/50 girl to guy ratio. This doesn't really matter to me, because I'm happily married, but just an observation. I was just sitting by myself, looking at the menu, messing with the phone, then the guy playing music says, "It's officially now a sausage fest!". I looked up, sure enough, nothing but dudes. I liked it for the beer, not the dudes.

The atmosphere here is awesome! The lighting is not super bright and not super dark. The selection of over 60 craft beers is also really nice. Even though I am not a big beer drinker the bar tenders were very knowledgeable and were able to recommend a beer that I would like based on the information I gave them. I am now a big fan of craft beers because of this place. The bar also has T.V.s mounted on the walls, so if I want to watch a sporting event I can do so, but at the same time it doesn't give the vibe of a sports bar. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a cool place to hang out and drink a few beers with friends.

Having gained a significant palate for craft beer in the past year, The Brass Tap has been a valuable addition to Gainesville's brew scene. Prices are what you would expect from a chain tap house, but there are definitely specials throughout the day (and week) that make for a great value overall. For instance, Wednesday nights are College night and all drafts under $8 are half off with student/staff ID. The discount can make for a quality beer served for as little as $2.50. The selection is quite nice and the menu changes somewhat satisfactorily from week to week, with a few incredible beers tending to stay on consistently (Weihenstephaner's name can be seen frequently, as well as SOMETHING from Swamp Head). Another plus: plenty of TVs at various angles for watching whichever game you might be interested in. The main issue I have with this place is the service (and I have been here enough to give them a fair chance to improve it). It can take anywhere from 10-15 minutes before you are drinking your first beer if you go on a busier night. Some of the waitresses do not write down the orders your party places, so in many instances we have been serviced in waves across a span of 30 minutes or more. Another crucial piece of this experience is that, though the tap house may not be busy, the parking continues to be due to the surrounding business. Consider this when planning your putting. Final Notes: -You can ask for tasters of their draft beers (for free) -They do not serve any food, but you are allowed to bring take-out or have food delivered

60 Beers on tap! This place is great! I used to live in Gainesville and when I was back visiting I stumbled upon this gem. I gave it 5 stars because this place is awesome and has it all. Why is it even better than World of Beer? They have the more knowledgeable staff and more unique offerings. While it may not be the most affordable place for college students, the selection, staff, live music and atmosphere make this an amazing place to sit back and enjoy some unique brews.

Really cool place, maaaaaaaaaany options to choose from, you may just want to bring in your own snacks and food, because they ONLY sell the drinks.

Best new beer bar in Gainesville. I love the atmosphere in here and the decor looks really nice. They tastefully have a lot of TVs without it feeling like a sports bar. They are clearly known for the beer and they do it well. They have 60 beers on tap and over 300 bottles. I really like the tap list as they keep mostly US beers. The best deal they have it on Sunday they spotlight beers on tap for $3 which is really good. The beers on tap are competitively prices at $5-6 and the bottles are on the high end at $5-6. They sell make your own six packs but only at a 25% discount so a six pack could end up costing you $20+ but they do have beers you can't find other places. They have a brew crew membership which is a little pricey at $15 but if you go a lot you'll make your money back. Hopefully they do some special events for it. This place also has a good wine selection and sell cigars. The only reason they lost a star is because they don't offer food. They do have discounts set up with surrounding food places if you get it delivered (you can also bring in food). Pita pit was the main one. Make sure to check this place out if you haven't already.

I was having a fantastic time at brass tap on archer road in Gainesville Florida. The guy behind the bar was very knowledgeable about their products and suggested beers that I actually enjoyed. Then, a few more of my friends showed up and we sat down at a table. Apparently, my waitress was offended by my attempts to go back to the knowledgeable bartender for drink suggestions. She proceeded to be rude and insisted that I make all drink orders through her because she "had my tab." After my friends and I continued to have a good time, she repeatedly showed up and asked us if we wanted our check. I have never felt like I my server did not want me in a restaurant before. Before this experience, I thought breast tap and world of beer were equal establishments. This waitress proved me wrong. I will not be returning.

We stopped here hoping to find some local Floridian beer as we are from out of state. It was great. We were able to choose beer flights of 4 beers for $10. The wait staff was great and there were two patios to enjoy the weather.

The Brass Tap is a really cool new bar located on Archer where a bar has been needed for some time now. It is like a World of Beer except they strive for better customer service and more knowledgable servers. They have 60 beers on tap and plenty more in bottles or cans. There are plenty of TVs to watch the game and on Friday night when we went they also had a live band. They sell cigars as well and have an outside smoking area. This place is a great new establishment in Gainesville and a place that I will likely be frequenting.

The Brass Tap is located next to a frozen yogurt shop, a chipotle, a pita pitt, and on tranquil Archer Road, a rarefied air for such an establishment. So parking sucks. We were greeted by an assault on our unsuspecting ear drums, live "music" more reminiscent of a large animal in its death throes, amplified to a volume more commonly heard on airport tarmacs. In the busyness, I went off to secure a table for my boyfriend and I, as he attempted to make contact with the dullards at the bar. The inmates were truly running the asylum. He promptly returned with ONE beer...why you may ask? Because apparently they are running a candy store in an adult establishment, and expect children to purchase libations. "One drink per ID"? Maybe they can funnel their profits into the procurement of a suitable person to check the IDs prior to entering, so that the enforcement of their stated policy of no under-21s after 8pm might actually streamline the process of buying and selling alcohol, the sole purpose of this establishment. Finally having procured my own beer, I was submitted to another battery of questions: who is my server? where am I sitting (in this room for 30 people)? where is the tab? Questions that only needed to be asked because they wouldn't honor my boyfriend's simple request to run a tab at the bar. But alas, we were in the capable hands of our phantom server, who stumbled over, peddling my boyfriend's credit card to the next table over, a misguided attempt at identity fraud. Taken aback by being caught red handed, she glumly shuffled over and yielded, turning the credit card over, nary an explanation, save for another ridiculous question of who had the tab. With yet another sigh and a shake of our heads, we retold the complicated story of the beers, ordered at the bar. The music had finally ceased its siege upon our psyches, and we eagerly gulped our overpriced beers to hasten our escape. With our brief foret into binge drinking concluded, we made straight for the bar to settle this mystical tab. After a lecture on the minutiae of Brass Tap protocol from the dull-eyed bartender which must have surely rivaled the training manual in length, the proverbial buck had been passed once more into the abyss, no one in this bar seemingly wanting to take our money. Our server, busy gazing deeply into her own navel, finally bumbled over with the elusive piece of paper granting our freedom. What happened next could not have been a more apt metaphor for our experience, as the shattering of glass so often accompanies vicious car accidents: a pint glass mysteriously shatters at the bar, hurling shrapnel into the surrounding crowd, undoubtedly a primitive show of anger from another abused patron who was denied release from this hell hole. Thus concluded our first and only trip to the Brass Tap.

The service at this place was terrible. Went there on a Tuesday night for a beer with a couple friends. There were maybe 15 people in the entire place. The bartender gave my friend and I one sample and then disappeared. No one else bothered to take our order and, after waiting for 30 minutes, we left thirsty. The beer selection was good, but we didn't get to taste it. We were the only people that walked into the bar within the 30 minutes we were there, so it wasn't because the bartender mistakenly over looked us. Actually two bartenders who did not serve us the sample walked down by our seats and still did not acknowledge we were there, waiting to buy beer and help them make a buck.
