SMH at the negative reviews here. If you go to the buffet, of course you're going to get food that's not the freshest, not cooked to your liking, etc- you're getting unlimited amounts of a variety of food for like $10. You get what you pay for. That's going to be the case at every buffet. The cooked-to-order takeout is incredible, however. The Lo Mein is delicious, their take on the General Tso's recipe is great, and the rice is flavorful and filling instead of being sticky/crunchy the way most places will give it to you. If you're on a budget, try the Lunch Specials- for about $5 you get a takeout container with two scoops of rice, your entree of choice, and a small soup and an egg roll. I am a 6'3" 200lb weightlifter and I get FULL on those specials.

I used to go to eat at Szechuan Palace in the past, but now I feel like the food was not fresh like it used to.

I don't usually do the buffet thing but this one is pretty good. The food is monitored and kept fresh. The BBQ chicken on a stick is really tasty if you can get by it's looks. (Like something from the squirrel family lol) as is All of the other beef and pork dishes I tried. I'll try to learn the real names for this stuff as my names for them won't be very helpful to the easily queasied.

I've been to this restaurant several times over the past few years. The food has been okay, usually. Yesterday, I went with my daughter and her friend. The food seemed okay, until I found what appeared to be a short, black, curly hair (pubic hair?) in the dumpling sauce. I found this after I'd eaten three dumplings. Gross!!! I called one of the servers over and showed her. No real response other than a half-hearted apology. I told her I was not going to finish the rest of my food since I'd now lost my appetite and felt a bit ill after my discovery. She took my dishes away, then brought the bill. I was charged for all three meals (mine, my daughter's, and her friend's). I went to the register to pay and told the manager (a small, older Asian woman) about the hair I found in my food. She seemed to not understand, at first, then she offered to reduce my bill by 15%. I reminded her that there was a pubic hair in my food, and she got angry saying that, in the 15 years she'd been working there, she's never had any complaints. I told her that I expected her to remove my meal charge from the bill. She argued and told me she would only charge me $6.99 for my meal instead of $10.99. I, again, insisted that she remove my meal from the bill. She argued, again, saying she would take off 30% of the bill. I told her, again, to remove my meal from the bill and make sure that her kitchen staff practiced better hygiene, so this wouldn't happen to anyone else. She finally relented and removed my meal from the bill. I paid what I owed for the kids. I will not be returning. Ever.

The food was delicious. They have a good variety of vegetarian options. I love the eggplant and garlic dish! The people are so nice too. When I went to order for a group of 20, they were accommodating to my needs and explained the pricing with patience. They gave us fried rice in place of white rice for no extra price. They even took the food out to the car for us and gave us a whole watermelon on the house! They prepared the food (6 take out aluminum trays) in about 45 min and called is when it was ready. I appreciated that.

Average to good. The buffet is rather limited, but okay. The nearby HK deli beats them hands down in quality and quantity of foods.

Eh....My whole reason for going was to see if there was edible sushi within a mile radius of my condo. I walked in and tried to place a take out order but when I pointed to the "Dancing Eel Roll", the most expensive roll on the menu, they told me that they're out of eel. I got the impression they are often out of eel. I decided I'd try the buffet so I loaded up with some small portions of just about everything including the 'sushi.' Almost everything I tried was ok for a buffet; most items were generally soggy and over salty unless they just came out of the back. The sushi 'bar' (which is something they proclaim to have on their sign) is a joke in the corner of the room next to the ice cream with approximately 6 different rolls that range from boring to "I'm not eating that." Take your $11.99 and walk next door to Hong Kong Deli if you want some great Chinese food.

I've been going to this restaurant for a couple of years, mostly because it's close and cheap. However, the food is always overcooked, sitting out too long, and the service is exceedingly bad. One drink refill is way too much to ask of these people. I also got food poisoning once, and have felt sick a time or two after eating, not realizing it could have been the shoddy service here. Not to mention, during a power outage that went on for nearly four hours, the staff cornered my friend and I, surrounded our booth, and would not let us out of the booth or leave because we didn't have any cash to pay (their credit card machine was down because, you know, a power outage does that. They see me in here OFTEN. I offered to leave my address and phone number, and to come back to the establishment the following day to pay, but they told me I could either write down my credit card information (very shady, not to mention, not going to happen) or stay until the power came on. I explained to them I had to wake up at 3:30am, and wasn't going to sit around and argue with them. After letting them know I would be leaving my name and number, and leaving the restaurant in five minutes had the power not come back on, they all continued to speak and yell and act foolish in Chinese before the only normal, sane person who works there said "Why don't you all speak in English? It would just make everything easier." So, while I hate to be negative about things like this, clearly this staff is very unprofessional, not to mention totally playing stupid by "not knowing how to speak English." After this horrible display of professionalism and manners, I will take my business to Ocean Buffet from now on. It may be a little further and a dollar more, but Ocean Buffet knows what they're doing, have a much better selection, are happy to serve you, (not to mention, have a full Mongolian bar and sushi made right in front of you). If you're planning on doing some Chinese, skip this place because all you'll get is last night noodles and tomorrow's food poisoning.

Went for the first time and was a little skeptic, but it turned out OK. We were really just craving crab legs and crawfish- which were kind of bland, but surprisingly the hot food was not bad. I'm picky at Chinese buffets, so I really just had soup and mainly vegetables. The variety isn't that much since there is just one row of food, but I guess there's not too many Chinese buffets in town. I probably won't go back, but the food is actually decent.

Don't go here, the food is marginal and they charged me twice for the same order, once before the tip and again after the tip was added and they would not refund my credit card. Not worth it!, don't waste your time or money on this place!

just keep your standards low, don't take a date here, and you'll be just fine. the best option for fast takeout is the take-out buffet: I can get 3 meals out of 1 to-go carton, and it's a lifesaver after a long day of work, esp. given limited options on the North/Northeast. yes, some of the stuff is gloppy and greasy, but there are also a LOT of good things on the buffet, plus a ton of dishes with lots of fresh veggies, too. Green beans, cabbage, bok choy -- I like having all 3 options. An ok tofu (sog factor, but tasty). My fave buffet dishes are the pepper chicken and the mushroom chicken. And the noodles are chewy and very flavorful. And the general tso, the bbq pork, the beef broccoli are all decent. The won ton soup is fine, too -- good noodles, flavorful. Avoid the sushi and desserts. (OK, I confess, I really like bad pudding out of a can, like they serve at Ponderosa or grade school lunch counters. So I love their pudding, too.)

If you are looking for cheap and plentiful crappy Chinese food, this is the place. The buffet looked stale and the selections were plenty but the quality was bad. The various meat tasted like "mystery meat" and the dishes were drowning in thick gloopy sauces. We didn't try the sushi because it looked like it had been sitting there for a while. The dinner buffet was about $10 a person.

This is a Chinese buffet which at one time was very good for the type of establishment it is: the food was fresh and there were enough customers to cause them to keep restocking their buffet dishes frequently. I often found it a great deal for lunch as you could, for a moderate price, get a good array of tasty dishes and some things like one of the chicken dishes and their egg rolls were as good as you'd find anywhere. Alas, last time I was here I felt sick afterwards as did my dinner companion. I have not ventured back since, for one thing, I nearly never get ill at my stomach and I can eat nearly any grub thrown my way and not feel sick so if something here did in fact encourage those feelings, ehhhhh. I should give them another try but still . . . there is the aspect that it is truly hard at these buffets to keep everything fresh and refilled in a timely manner and then there's the issue that many places just don't even try. I hope that, should I try the Panda again, their quality meets my fondest memories thereof.

For a buffet, it's alright! I'm scared of how long some of the stuff has been laying there, but we're there for the all you can eat Lo Mein and Fried Rice anyway, right?

I think this is the best Chinese buffet in Gainesville. Went there again today, hadn't been there since this summer. Got there early so everything was fresh. They always have a great variety and even had some sushi out for the lunch buffet. I know they had to drop the Panda from the name to fool us from associating them with the disgraced location on SW 13th St, but I still love this place. Staff is always courteous and never allows your drinks to even get to the halfway point before refilling them. I don't care what type of pets they serve, I love the Skewered Squirrel On A Stick there personally. Great place for groups too, even your pickiest co-worker will find something they'll like. Even the meat dishes have healthy chunks of peppers or onions or what have you so you won't feel like a complete carnivore. General Tso tempts you with his caloric carmelish sauce and dried red peppers.... so bad for you, but so good. Oh.... so good. Lunch runs right at $6.50 for adults. Is there a better Chinese-ish buffet currently in Gainesville? If there is a better Chinese buffet in Gainesville, please review it! And do us all here a favor - if you haven't been in awhile, go there before writing a review, m'kay? Seems a lot of reviews here are for places that people have fond memories of, but haven't actually been too lately. Oh, and according to the placemats, I'm supposed to marry either a 13 year old or a 47 year old. What's up with that?

If you are in the mood for noodles, this is the place to go! I've tried a lot of crappy chinese takeouts, but Szechuan surpassed my expectations- for $10 I got spring rolls, fried rice and a TON of delicious noodles with veggies and tofu! Yum! And very generous portions sizes, a great place for chinese take out!

Good, but always a little greasy. It's difficult to avoid the bamboo shoots, baby corn, and water chestnuts, all of which I can't stand. Hot Pepper Chicken wasn't too hot.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
